Since my childhood, I was always asked this question– what I would want to be once I grow up, and I would always be confused. Over the years, I observed the functioning of different jobs and tried to find what suited me the best. Now that I am old enough to decide, I know the answer to this question. 

The perfect job for me would be to become a doctor and give back to my people. I derived the inspiration for taking this role up because of my father, who has served as a doctor for 30 years. I remember him being late at night, hitting emergencies, treating people, and giving his all. Moreover, seeing him perform his job with utmost dedication for the betterment of others always inspired me.

I am currently studying MBBS– the degree to become a doctor in India and can't wait to step into a hospital. As a doctor, I aim to expand my ability to reach people in the farthest corners of the country and treat them. In fact, I have been interning in a village, where I have aided in childbirth and assisted in minor medical emergencies.

With my strong interest in Biology and the will to do something meaningful with my life, I am sure of this career path.

Growing up, I wasn't aware of the different professions one could pursue. Moreover, my family has always been academically driven, so there was always pressure to do well in my studies.

With this motivation to pursue higher studies and use my interest to create value, in the coming years, I plan on excelling in the field of marketing and advertising. I firmly believe that this field consists of both my love for art and creativity and mapping human behavior when it comes to business and consumerism. 

As a marketeer, I aim to work for companies or products and increase sales while promoting business growth. It would be a tremendous learning experience to navigate what the audience wants and what we can do to get them the ideal product. I also aim to participate in harnessing social media as an excellent means to spread the word about the company and attract the target audience. Additionally, analytics also plays a massive role in marketing and advertising, and I want to explore this stream as well. 

In terms of marketing and advertising roles and skills, I would like to explore the luxury brands industry, given their expansive reach across nations.

Many employers now require a writing sample, or job application essay , to accompany all applications or résumés — even if writing is not a significant part of the position. The goal of the job application essay is to ensure that applicants have the right communication skills for the position offered. Sometimes, potential employers will provide a specific topic or series of questions for your essay to respond to. However, you may also be asked to provide an essay with no guidance whatsoever. Either way, approach the essay seriously so that it highlights the skills and assets you could bring to the company. [1] X Research source

Outlining Your Essay

• If you don't know much about the company, do a little research on it before you start writing. You might look at their website or do a general internet search with the name of the company to see if any news articles or other reports come up. Go beyond the four corners of the job listing so that you understand who will likely be reading your essay.
• If there's anything in the job listing or essay requirements that you don't understand, contact the employer and ask about them. Employers are often impressed by applicants who clarify the employer's intent rather than making assumptions.

• For example, if you're applying for a position in sales, you might want to write an essay about your ability to tailor your pitch to specific clients and close the deal. If you have the ability to be more creative, you might tailor your essay to "sell" yourself directly to the employer.

• For each of your points, think of a specific example you can relate briefly that illustrates the point. For example, if you've described yourself as a "team player," you might include an example of how you came in on your day off to complete some of the more monotonous tasks that no one else wanted to do so a project could be completed ahead of schedule.
• It's a good idea to have more than one example in your outline for each point, even if you only end up using one. That way, if you start writing something and it ends up not working as well as you thought it would, you'll have a back-up handy.
• Brainstorming can be difficult. If you find yourself churning over the same thoughts, stand up and take a break for a few minutes. Step outside or go for a walk to clear your head, then come back to it.

• For example, if you want to describe how you increased sales in a specific quarter, you would want to state specifically how much you increased sales. Your former employer may have sales figures that you could ask them for. You might also have that information in your records.
• Wherever possible, use specific numbers and dates rather than making general statements. It's okay to estimate, but make sure your estimate is conservative. Saying you led your sales team to the highest sales in a quarter is impressive — but only if it's true.

Completing Your Rough Draft

• Think of this paragraph as telling the hiring manager what you're going to tell them in the essay. Outline the points you're going to elaborate on in the essay that back up your theme or thesis statement.
• Sometimes it's best to go back and write your introduction after you've written the body of your essay. That way, you can make sure the introduction provides an outline that matches the body.

• If the employer listed specifically what should be included in your essay, follow their order, since that's what they'll be looking for when they read the essay.
• Write in the first person and make yourself the star of any anecdote you include as an example. Use action verbs to focus on what you did rather than focusing on what happened and how you reacted to it. • For example, if you're writing about your skills as a team player, you might note that you discuss doing routine work that others found monotonous so they had time to work on other parts of a project. You could use that detail to move on to a section describing how you're detail-oriented.

• For example, you might write "My business school education, skills as a team player, and focus on detail make me the best candidate to lead your sales team."

Finalizing Your Essay

• For example, you might start by looking solely at punctuation, then read through again focusing on spelling.
• If you find that you tend to repeat a particular error, go through your essay looking for that error specifically.
• If your grammar isn't particularly strong or you're writing in a language other than your native language, have someone else read over your essay as well.

• If you find that you stumble over a sentence while reading aloud, that's a sign that your writing could be clearer. Work with your text until you have something that you can read aloud with ease.

• If the prospective employer did not specify a length, try to keep your essay under 2 double-spaced pages. Remember that hiring managers are busy and don't have a lot of time to read a long, rambling essay.
• Eliminate all unnecessary words or sentences that aren't relevant to the subject of your essay. The majority of your sentences should be short, declarative sentences with action verbs.
• Apps such as Hemingway ( http://www.hemingwayapp.com/ ) or Grammarly ( https://app.grammarly.com/ ) can help you identify portions of your essay that are more difficult to read. Both of these apps have a free version that you can use to edit your text.

• Working backward is particularly helpful for noticing spelling mistakes, especially hard-to-catch homophone errors, because you're seeing the word out of context.

• It may also help to print your essay in a different font or font size than what you used to type it. This breaks your brain's familiarity with the text, which can make typos and other errors more noticeable. Just remember to change the font back after you print it.

Well, people do a lot of effort to get a job so that they can earn a hefty amount. Similarly, I have also thought to do a job as a content writer. I got to know about this job from one of my admirable well-wishers. She told me that I could do this job while sitting in any corner of the world, and it would be a great opportunity to earn well and to establish one’s identity. I would like to do this job for my baby because I can’t leave her on others for her to take care of.

Moreover, if I do any other job besides this, then I would have to spend long hours in any office or in any college, so it’s a tiring job. I would have left no time for myself to upgrade my knowledge. So if I do this job, then there are more chances of earning a large amount as well as I can take care of my child. Well, I think my child is in the growing stage. So she needs me more than any other person. It would be great if I did this job and I fulfil the needs of my family.

I think this job is perfect because I am fully prepared for this job now. It’s not only due to the high amount that people get in this job but because I have an interest in this job. Being a literature student, I think I have a lot of opportunities there. To do this job a person must have good knowledge of the language as well as imagination also work. If a person is a learner, then no one can stop him or her from becoming successful. This is a reason I would like to do this job in the foreseeable future.

I think everyone has this dream of having to go decent job with a minimal amount of salary, and you just fulfil your every need along with the family needs so one day I was thinking about to have this dream job which is become Principle in a school and give education to all the children’s where it needs who cannot afford to pay the fees Anne get the education to their children so in future. I have given a thought about building a school where everyone can be able to gain knowledge without worrying about money they can be independent people also I have this thought about building a school from a YouTube video, but I have seen one man has just given a thought about it and have fulfilled this dream of his to give education to each and every child.

Answer 1:- Well, every occupation needs labour, communication skills as well a good academic background. People do their best when they are in a job, but there are some professions which are very important for our society like doctors, teachers, engineers because they do valuable services for the society I think these must be given higher salaries.

Answer 2:- I do not think, so there is something or when occupation which needs better be because I think every occupation has its own pros and cons, so I think each and every occupation is equally important and this modern world. Also individual will choose the job according to his interest so there is nothing to be said that this field or this occupation is giving or should give more salaries.

Question 3. Is being rich a good thing?

Answer 1:- Definitely, people must save for their future because no one knows at what time they can have a need for money. If they don’t save money, then they will have to repent in the future. They will be at the mercy of others, and sometimes nobody will help them, so they must save a penny daily for their future.

Answer 2:- I do not think so why if we are rich is a bad thing because we have learned that if we have to do something or if we need to start something new, we should have money in our hands, so I think being rich is not a bad thing, but also if you are rich and if you’re not spending that money properly it can be a bad thing people will just get influenced, or they will just use this money for the necessity which is not important so they should think about it and use the money wisely.

Question 4. Do you think people should save for the future?

Answer 1:- Yes, definitely being a rich person is a good thing because people can buy any kind of thing with money. They will have a good reputation in society. People will invite them to many social functions, and they get VIP treatment from the people, which is a good thing nowadays.

Answer 2:- I think it is very much important to save money for the future. If I just spend money on shopping or partying or buying gifts for others which are not always essential can be reduced the course in future we do not know what can happen if you want to buy a home we should have at least minimum amount of money with our sense, so I think it is very much important to see for future.

Question 5. What makes a person choose a job apart from the pay it offers?

Answer 1:- I think job satisfaction, the locality as well as other privileges like transport, accommodation. This kind of thing makes a person do any particular job. If they find a job near to their residential area, then they feel happier because they can reach early and simultaneously can spend some time with their family that they usually waste while travelling from their home to workplace.

Dream Job At this point in time, I find the world of sustainability overwhelming. There are some many possibilities in so many fields of study and application. Every time I research sustainable practices I gain more knowledge that can be applied in so many facets. So, I not sure currently what my dream-job is the field of sustainability. I know that I want to be an advocate for a sustainable world and I like the idea of promoting green communities. I like the idea of “farm to table” services and sustainable forms of food production.

But I also, like the idea of natural methods of remediating water and soil resources. 

Many of the interests in the sustainable field that I listed, I do not currently have the skill-set to apply. To complete the homework assignment, I did choose an interest that fits the skill-set that I currently possess and applies the theories of sustainability in an educational sense. ~ ~ ~ Nature-based learning is not just about teaching future generations to be good stewards of the earth. It is about the development of the whole child through the interconnections of their earthly origins. The methodologies of nature-based learning are about the total emersion of academic development and human development. It is a venue in which all learning styles are addressed, and the 5-senses are actively engaged. The nature-based curriculum provides a cornucopia of learning pathways where in which a child becomes a full participant in their own educational process and are confidently able to own their own deductions. 

The outdoor classroom engages the mind, body and soul. Children are given the freedom to use the boundless discoveries in an outdoor environment to develop their imagination, ability to self-express, gross and fine motor skills, critical thinking, social interaction and other learning developmental mile-stones. Nature-based learning is not only an application for holistic learning for the learner it is also, a vehicle for preparation for living in a sustainable world. This current generation is on the cusp of a future in which sustainable practices will be a normal application in every aspect of life. Through nature-based learning, children will be able to make direct physical connections with the elements that make up natural and man-made resources that are used daily. Children will also develop a greater understanding of the interconnections and impacts that human populations have on the earth’s ecological processes. The oracle of this holistic approach to learning is the nature-based educator. The Nature-Based Educator is responsible for building curriculum that meets academic requirements for each developmental level; however, they must also go beyond the standard application and presentation. 

Nature based curriculum walks a delicate balance between allowing a child the freedom to discover their own understanding and careful, constructive guidance from the educator. The nature-based educator must be willing spend most of their teaching time outdoors. They must be adaptive in creatively intertwining standard teaching curriculum with the overriding theme of outdoor education and hands-on learning. Curriculum Development and preparation for nature-based is more intense then the standard classroom curriculum. This is based on the fact that the nature-based educator will be working in an environment with unpredictable variables. The classroom is the great-outdoors, with no walls for spatial boundaries. The nature-based educator will need to build a curriculum that utilizes what nature has to offer on any given day. Safety and protocols must also be built into each activity. Again, safety is another facet in which nature-based education walks a fine-line. The overriding philosophy of the outdoor classroom is to give children the freedom to explore. This means, climbing trees, rolling logs, playing in a stream, building forts and so on – all of which are considered potential hazards in a standard classroom setting. 

A nature-based educator must be willing to embrace the elements of the great out-doors and be willing to turn any unpredictable natural phenomena into a learning opportunity. It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my application for the position of Senior Nature-Based Curriculum Developer. I have extensive experience in science, nature and recreational education program/curriculum development, presentation and training. My past job experiences have given me a wide variety of program development and facilitation in the classroom, outdoor nature education, and recreational environments. I have worked with all age levels including infants to seniors. I also, have significant experience in customer relations and recreation/park operations.

• Before you begin, ask yourself a few key questions like:
• What are my short-term and long-term career goals?
• Where do I see myself in ten years?
• What events in my life have led me to have these goals?
• What major will help me reach my goals?
• What skills do I need to reach my goals?
• What impact do I want to have on society?

After you brainstorm the responses to these questions, look for common themes, or pick out the most interesting stories. You can build your main essay “thesis” or idea around this.

Once you’ve got the main idea, create an outline to put your ideas into essay format. This will give you a general idea of structure.

Here’s a paragraph-by-paragraph breakdown:

Paragraph 1 : Establish the main theme of what you’re going to talk about. It should also grab the reader’s attention. For example, instead of starting your essay with something generic (e.g. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a zoologist), get creative with it! Try something like My greatest memory as a young girl was going to the zoo for the first time or While most kids play house or school, I always wanted to play zookeeper.

Paragraph 2 : Elaborate on what inspired your career goals. Perhaps it was a relative, a TV show, or simply an experience that you had. Remember that old writing adage, “Show, don’t tell.” In other words, try to demonstrate your interest with story or description. 

Paragraph 3 : Discuss your short-term career goals and your intended major. How will your intended major help you reach these goals? What skills do you need to learn to reach them? At the end of the paragraph, try discussing how your short-term goals can help you achieve your long-term goals.

Paragraph 4 : Focus on your long-term goals and the impact that you hope to have on society. If you’re not sure what your long-term goals are, don’t sweat it; they’ll probably change anyways. You can instead focus on the difference you’d like to make overall. And don’t worry too much about the size of the impact…remember that just doing what you’re truly passionate about has a massive impact on those around you.

The last paragraph is your conclusion. You can use this paragraph to summarize what you discussed in the previous few paragraphs. If you want to be even more creative, try ending your essay with a question for your readers or a new insight. Good luck!

I would like to speak about a very important profession which I consider as a perfect one for me and that is the job of a teacher. 

I have been greatly inspired by my teachers who went out of their way to ensure their students got the best in education and values. My teachers have played an important role in my upbringing and I give them due credit for all the qualities that I have imbibed. Though most of them were task masters, I am greatly humbled by what they did to me and my peers in our school days. 

Well, being a teacher is not an easy job as a teacher represents the whole society. The nation building responsibility lies on the shoulders of a teacher. A teacher needs to maintain integrity in his or her personal life too as the students are bound to emulate the teacher. Though its highly challenging, it has got its pros too. A teacher can forget his or her daily worries, in the school as it is with children that the teacher forgets whatever challenges he or she might be facing on the personal front. 

I can say this is the perfect job as it carries enormous respect in society and responsibility too .I have seen students who have reached the pinnacle of their careers, have become reputable people in society and yet never miss an opportunity to meet their beloved teachers and express their gratitude towards them .This is one of the most important reasons why among all the professions, I would any day chose to be a teacher.

‘Well how are you going to get a job with a degree like that?’

Social sciences seek to understand how people interact with each other, how society functions and how cultures develop.

Any young person who has considered studying social and behavioural sciences is well accustomed to the usual reaction: raised eyebrows, head shaking and a question of “Well, how are you going to get a job with a degree like that?”

For those unfamiliar, behaviour and social sciences seek to understand the conduct of human beings and animals, singly and in groups, from birth to death.

It is something people come into contact with on a regular basis, whether talking about current affairs in the local pub or digesting the recent celebrity gossip and wondering why someone did what they did.

But what does the study of social sciences mean for those who undertake a degree in the field? It is largely done through a variety of subjects, including philosophy, anthropology and psychology.

In UCD five distinct degrees come under the social sciences umbrella: social sciences; social policy and sociology; psychology; and bachelor in education with Irish or modern languages.

Elsewhere, Maynooth University offers a bachelor’s in social sciences, which required 320 Central Applications Office (CAO) points last year.

Throughout the programme, students learn to analyse contemporary social problems, issues and policy responses, related to poverty and social exclusion, drugs, criminal justice, housing, migration, ethnicity, disability, ageing and gender.

The degree is organised as a double big programme with the core subject of social policy and one of the following subjects: sociology, philosophy, history, anthropology, geography or economics. The core subject of social policy focuses on government and institutional policies concerned with human needs and welfare in the broadest sense, and how these needs are addressed.

The social sciences course in University College Cork (UCC) required 445 points last year. In the programme students study a variety of modules, including psychology, philosophy, sociology and economics, among others.

The University of Galway’s BA in social sciences required 347 points last year, and includes excellent opportunities for students.

There is an international field trip in second year, a significant workplace internship in third year, and dissertation or research project component in fourth year, giving students practical real-world experience and knowledge of working in areas of social scientific inquiry.

Some smaller colleges which may not have a big arts, humanities or social science department can still have particular strengths in one social science area or another.

The Dublin Business School (DBS) is one such example. While predominantly a business-focused institution, its BA in psychology and BA in social science are both popular choices for students.

They are also available in various technological universities. The South East Technological University (SETU) has a three-year social sciences degree that required 282 points last year, while a large majority of technological universities offer courses in social care.

Largely, most social science degrees require only the typical minimum entry requirement for university. However, depending on which course a student chooses, some have programme-specific entry requirements.

For example, to do the economics degree in UCD, students must have required a H5 in maths, while for the Irish or modern language degrees a minimum of O6 or H7 is required.

And so it is clear that these degrees equip students to analyse, research, and think critically about real-world problems and the policies that affect them. As a result, the notion that these degrees result in unemployment is simply not true.

The career options are incredibly varied, with social science graduates working in almost every field of work.

Rachel Farrell, associate dean of undergraduate social sciences at UCD, said people who study social sciences can go on to work in so many different areas of society.

“Broadly speaking and depending on the course subjects and interests of students, we have identified six sectors that our graduates work in: business and finance, non-governmental organisations [NGOs] or not-for-profits, public and Civil Service, technology, media and communications, education and research, and politics and policy,” she said.

Some of the roles encompassed by these sectors include economists, policymakers, activists, information managers, HR managers, journalists, statisticians, urban planners, librarians and social workers, among others.

Multinational corporations headquartered in Ireland such as Facebook, eBay and Google frequently seek to hire graduates with language skills, particularly in sales or technical customer-service roles. This means social science graduates are often highly sought after by these companies.

Adding to this, many big firms in Ireland are now running graduate programmes, which are an excellent route for those with social sciences degrees to get their foot in the door. These programmes have large potential for career growth and salary increases.

But just how popular are degrees in social sciences? Well, quite popular indeed, according to official statistics published annually.

The CAO in February published applicant data for 2024, which found a total of 5,041 people listed a degree in social and behavioural sciences as their first preference.

This was, however, down slightly on the 5,071 first preferences these courses received in the previous year.

According to statistics from the Higher Education Authority, social sciences has one of the lowest dropout rates when compared with other areas of study, though it increased slightly in the most recent tranche of data.

In the 2017-2018 academic year, 9 per cent of individuals in social sciences degrees, journalism or information did not progress through the course. This rose slightly to 10 per cent the following year, before dropping to 6 per cent in the 2019-2020 academic year.

However, in the 2021-2022 academic year the data showed 13 per cent of students in social sciences, journalism and information dropped out of the degree.

Due to the variety in career opportunities, it is difficult to ascertain what exactly social sciences graduates earn upon graduation, though many teaching in the sector say there are many positive job opportunities, across a variety of fields.

The degrees being so broad and open-ended is one of the biggest advantages of studying social sciences.

According to Ms Farrell, students develop a wide range of skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis and communication skills.

“These skills are not only relevant to specific career paths but are also highly transferable, allowing graduates to adapt to various professional environments and excel in diverse roles. Additionally, they gain experience in teamwork and independent research, further enhancing their ability to collaborate effectively and conduct rigorous investigations,” she said.

“The focus on research skills embedded throughout each degree ensures that students are equipped with the tools to contribute meaningfully to our understanding of societal issues, both in their chosen fields and beyond. ”

She added: “This experiential learning approach, combined with exposure to research methodologies, not only prepares students for their careers but also fosters a deeper understanding of our social world and cultivates a lifelong commitment to inquiry and discovery.”

As a result, social sciences are often an excellent choice for both students who know exactly what it is they want to do after graduation, and for those who don’t.

Key areas the courses cover

Since degrees in social sciences are so broad, it can often be confusing for prospective students to ascertain what it is exactly they will learn should they undertake one.

Of course, it depends on what type of course a student chooses, but by and large most institutions offering social science degrees cover the areas below.

What are the big issues affecting countries? What policy decisions have led the country to experience these issues? What policies could be implemented to resolve these challenges? These are all areas that are explored in the many social sciences degrees around the country.

2. Economics

This social science studies the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. The subject focuses on how economies work. Those who specialise in economics have great career prospects, high earning potential and high-transferable skills.

3. Psychology

This is an area that helps students understand human behaviour and mental processes and allows you to better understand how we think, act and feel. To begin your career as a psychologist, however, a graduate degree is normally required.

4. Geography

A subject that students would be familiar with from their junior or Leaving Cert, geography at third level examines the Earth’s landscapes, environments and the relationships they have. Specialising in this area provides a comprehensive understanding of both natural occurrences and human activities and how the two interact.

5. Anthropology

This is the systematic study of humanity, with the goal of understanding our evolutionary origins and our distinctiveness as a species. They learn about diverse cultural practices and social institutions including religion, politics, the life course and many others.

Students can also study forensic anthropology, which applies skeletal analysis and archaeological techniques to solve criminal cases.

6. Analyse complex topics

It is not enough just to be able to list things, but social sciences is all about understanding the way in which the world works. These courses allow students to look at a topic and analyse it, allowing the individual to view areas in a very nuanced, well-rounded way.

7. Research

Due to the very theoretical nature of these degrees, students become very proficient at research. Reading through documents and papers, and comprehending the ideas presented allows them to acquire necessary research skills that are important in almost every field of work.

OpenAI's blockbuster chatbot ChatGPT is getting a new update. 

On Monday, OpenAI unveiled GPT-4o for ChatGPT, a new version of the bot that can hold conversations with users in a very human tone. The new version of the chatbot will also have vision abilities.

The futuristic reveal quickly prompted jokes about parallels to the movie "Her," with some calling the chatbot's new voice " cringe ."

The move is a big step for the future of AI-powered virtual assistants, which tech companies have been racing to develop.

Since its release in 2022, hundreds of millions of people have experimented with the tool, which is already changing how the internet looks and feels to users.

Users have flocked to ChatGPT to improve their personal lives and boost productivity . Some workers have used the AI chatbot to develop code , write real estate listings , and create lesson plans, while others have made teaching the best ways to use ChatGPT a career all to itself.

ChatGPT offers dozens of plug-ins to those who subscribe to ChatGPT Plus subscription. An Expedia one can help you book a trip, while an OpenTable one will get nab you a dinner reservation. And last month, OpenAI launched Code Interpreter, a version of ChatGPT that can code and analyze data .

While the personal tone of conversations with an AI bot like ChatGPT can evoke the experience of chatting with a human, the technology, which runs on " large language model tools, " doesn't speak with sentience and doesn't "think" the way people do. 

That means that even though ChatGPT can explain quantum physics or write a poem on command, a full AI takeover isn't exactly imminent , according to experts.

"There's a saying that an infinite number of monkeys will eventually give you Shakespeare," said Matthew Sag, a law professor at Emory University who studies copyright implications for training and using large language models like ChatGPT.

"There's a large number of monkeys here, giving you things that are impressive — but there is intrinsically a difference between the way that humans produce language, and the way that large language models do it," he said. 

Chatbots like ChatGPT are powered by large amounts of data and computing techniques to make predictions to string words together in a meaningful way. They not only tap into a vast amount of vocabulary and information, but also understand words in context. This helps them mimic speech patterns while dispatching an encyclopedic knowledge. 

Other tech companies like Google and Meta have developed their own large language model tools, which use programs that take in human prompts and devise sophisticated responses.

Despite the AI's impressive capabilities, some have called out OpenAI's chatbot for spewing misinformation , stealing personal data for training purposes , and even encouraging students to cheat and plagiarize on their assignments. 

Some recent efforts to use chatbots for real-world services have proved troubling. In 2023, the mental health company Koko came under fire after its founder wrote about how the company used GPT-3 in an experiment to reply to users. 

Koko cofounder Rob Morris hastened to clarify on Twitter that users weren't speaking directly to a chatbot, but that AI was used to "help craft" responses.
