Every church needs slides for kids' ministry, Bible study groups, and Sunday services. And every minister has probably experienced the stress of putting their church PowerPoint slides together, despite having no design experience. Ever watched as eyes glaze over and your audience begins to fidget uncomfortably? This is the article for you.

Creating a presentation for your church shouldn't be daunting, but church workers without the right expertise often struggle to create a masterpiece. And when a presentation is less-than entertaining, people’s minds tend to wander to anything and everything else. While these five PowerPoint crafting principles ring true for all presentations, we have compiled five church-specific tips.

Before you begin next week’s presentation for church, read on for essential tips on crafting engaging and dynamic sermon slides.

1. Create a Bold Church Welcome Slide

Bold welcome to church slide

Welcome slides for church should be instantly recognizable. Include your church logo or follow the same theme while crafting it so whoever attends knows what they are in for. It works like branding so that your church is instantly identified, even at a glance. Make it bold, bright, and beautiful, using an eye-catching font and maybe even a church background image too.

If designing isn’t your forte, not to worry. Your church slides don’t have to lose out. Poster My Wall has a variety of church welcome slide templates so you can create an aesthetic work of art in seconds. Make sure to include your social media handles and a call to action telling people to follow you on your welcome-to-church slide. It's likely people will be seated with time to spare to look you up.

2. Don’t Overfill Church Announcement Slides

Simple announcement slide

We love a positive announcement as much as the next person, but there is such a thing as overkill. While it is a thoughtful idea to praise everyone as much as possible, too much is boring and repetitive for those in the audience. Instead, keep it as special as possible so that people know just how important the announcements are.

Some pieces of information are essential to be shared (think: fire drill update or an event time change), and you don’t want them to get lost in a sea of updates. The bottom line is: don’t bore your congregants with mundane details unless absolutely necessary. If it's not essential, save it until a one-on-one meeting.

3. Get Creative with Church Slide Backgrounds

Church motion graphics church slide backgrounds

The best way to keep people engaged in your slides and what you have to say is by switching up your church slide backgrounds as often as possible. You could make them seasonal to reflect the passing of time and the weather outside or relevant to the topic matter. Or, simply select something because it is aesthetically pleasing and attractive.

Instead of choosing between the limited options available on PowerPoint, why not try some of these background options by Church Motion Graphics ? They offer a free church slide design makeover, free downloads of their fonts, and free access to their sample pack. You don’t need to be a designer to make high-quality slides with resources like this available online.

4. Use a Range of Church Slide Templates

Canva templates

Church slides often repeat the same themes again and again. Presentations in kids’ ministry and seasonal slideshows shown during a Sunday service will recycle year after year, maybe seeing minor tweaks and changes. Stop this from becoming predictable by using different templates, even if they contain the same information!

Canva offers endlessly customizable church slides, helping you make a professional presentation in minutes. Find a diverse collection of church slide templates here , whether you are looking for inspiration for Mother’s Day or a prime-quality storytime PowerPoint for kindergarten. Go a cut above the rest using templates made by experts, whether you use them for PowerPoint or opt for a church Google Slides template.

By Amy Walters — Missionaries have earned the reputation of being boring! I’m sorry but it’s true. For decades, we have taken what could be the most amazing reports of God’s redemptive work and buried them under bad photos and rambling. So how do we make the most of the time we have to share our ministries with our churches? These seven keys can help!

1. Tell a story.

The best way to engage an audience is to tell a story. Talk about how God has changed someone’s life or how he is working through a ministry or event you were involved in. Or talk about how you see evidence of people’s need for the gospel and what gives you urgency to reach them.

Whatever story you pick, make sure that it is relevant and that it touches your heart. Stories that are unconnected to missions or your role in it will just confuse your audience. Stories that move you emotionally will have a good chance of moving your audience as well.

2. Use quality visuals.

If a picture is bad, don’t use it! That means nothing blurry, too dark, poorly framed, or awkward. And please, don’t just dump your entire camera roll into a Power Point! Select a few, quality photos, maps, or graphs to supplement what you are saying. When you tell your story, pick one photo of the person, location, or event to go with the story.

Also, do not put large blocks of text into your visual presentation. You should not be reading anything from the screen.

3. Start strong and finish strong.

It only takes seven seconds to lose an audience’s attention! A slow start to your presentation can be the end of someone listening to it. So start your presentation well. Use something interesting, strange, or unexpected to pique their interest. Use humor (but make sure you know what your audience will find funny). Or relate something you and your audience may have in common.

Do not begin with an apology for nerves or bad preparation. This can set your audience on edge.

Similarly, it’s important to finish the presentation well. Without a plan for how the presentation will end, the tendency can be to ramble and repeat. Land the plane! Memorize what your last line will be and once you say it, sit down!

Some simple ways to finish a missionary presentation are to tell the audience where they can find you after the service if they have questions, or to give them a few prayer requests.

4. Follow a clear path.

There is probably a lot you want to say and it can be hard to discern what the most important elements are. At SEND, we use a presentation outline called the W5HY (why-5):

Who – Who are you? What is your background or call to missions? What are you passionate about? Think about your audience—what do they know or not know about you? Again, only include the information that is relevant to the ministry you will present.

What – What ministry are you going to do or are currently doing? What do you hope to accomplish through your ministry? If you are serving in a support role, how will your work help reach lost people? If you don’t know many of the details of your own ministry yet, you could talk about what the missionaries on that team or in that location are currently doing.

Why – Why are you going? And why this ministry in this location? Why do the people you are going to live and serve among need the gospel? This section, and the section about who you are, are the most important parts of your presentation. They offer you the best opportunity to share your heart. If your presentation is well-polished but lacks passion, you will have missed the mark.

Where – Where are you going? Don’t just talk about geography but talk about the people who live there. If you are going to a place where Christians are unwelcome, you can speak about the region or talk about the people without specifying where exactly they live.

When – When do you hope to get there or return there? What things must be in place in order for you to leave—training, support-raising, visas? This section is particularly important if you have a deadline for when to arrive, like when language school starts. This can give your audience a sense of urgency to help you get there.

How – How will you get there? And I’m not talking about whether you’re taking a plane or a boat. This is about building your support team. Who do you need on that team—people to pray for you, people to give to your ministry? Maybe you even want to invite other people to join you on the mission field.

You – “You can be part of this ministry.” This is where you take a deep breath, look your audience straight in the eye and invite them to participate. This can have a very strong impact if done well. So don’t apologize for asking for money or needing people’s help. It is the privilege of God’s people to be involved in God’s work. This does require sensitivity, however, to the person who invited you to speak. So it’s a good idea to ask the pastor or missions committee chair if it’s okay for you to invite your audience to support your ministry.

5. Pay attention to time.

Most American churches are time oriented. They have clocks everywhere reminding them that the time is coming to dismiss everyone to lunch. You will generate goodwill with the pastor if you keep to the time allotted for your presentation.

6. Practice!

Hopefully you will have many opportunities to present your ministry and will become very familiar with your material. But don’t use that as an excuse to wing it! Take each speaking opportunity seriously and be well-prepared for it. Rehearse, out loud. Know your technology and what the church uses. Be prepared to give your presentation without the technology, if necessary.

7. Show gratitude.

Your audience has given you their time and attention. Make sure to thank them for it.

I understand that many people fear public speaking more than death. But I hope these tips can help you present your ministry clearly. God has called you to something exciting—let’s help your audience get excited about God’s work too.

10 PowerPoint Tips for Churches

by Brandon Hadley | Jun 20, 2021 | Visual Media | 0 comments

powerpoint-tips-churches

Your church might still be using PowerPoint for services. While PowerPoint has some limitations when used for church, that doesn’t mean that your church presentations can’t look professional. We’ve compiled 10 tips to make your PowerPoint presentations pop—and help you get rid of mistakes that undermine their effectiveness.

1. Use reader-friendly fonts

In an effort to evoke a feeling or a mood, people will sometimes gravitate toward fonts that seem interesting, but just don’t work for presentations. It might be that they want a “fancy” font and end up going with something completely unreadable, or maybe they use too many fonts and the whole presentation becomes a distraction.

If you’re looking for some simple tips for picking the perfect font, check out the post 4 Basic Typography Tips for Presentations .

2. Choose the correct backgrounds

When it comes to creating a professional-looking worship presentation , finding the right background is right up there with choosing a good font. You don’t want anything that’s going to distract from your text. After all, the text is the star of the presentation.

Choose colors that provide a strong contrast from your font. And never overlay text on an image that’s too busy for the words to be read clearly.

We’ve put together some suggestions to help you create incredibly readable church presentations .

3. Have someone double-check your slides

When someone sees a typo in a presentation, you lose their attention. It might only be for a moment, but they’re still distracted. If the typo is really egregious, they might even distract the person next to them by pointing it out.

Because our minds tend to compensate for missing words or misspellings, typos can easily slip by the most exacting presentation creator. As much as possible, make sure the presentation is put together with enough time to run it by another set (or two) of eyes.

4. Don’t pack too much text on a slide

It’s easy for churches to make this mistake. You think, I just want to use this one verse, so why would I break it into multiple slides? But too much text on one slide is unreadable and can lose the attention of your audience.

Use the 7X4 rule as a guide. Don’t add more than seven words on a line with no more than four lines on a slide—but give yourself about a 25-word-per-slide maximum!

5. Reveal list items one at a time

Periodically you’ll want to add a bulleted or numbered list to your presentation. Since you’re likely going to be discussing each item one-by-one, you don’t want to make the entire list visible. People aren’t going to wait for you to prompt them before they read what’s on the slide, and when everyone is reading ahead, they’re not listening to you. So, reveal a list item as you’re talking about it.

As you reveal a new list item, you might want to grey out the previous items on the list.

FREE SUNDAY CHECKLIST

FREE for your Church Presentation Software needs:  We’ve put together an easy-to-follow, downloadable, Sunday morning service checklist for your ministry.  The best part:  It’s FREE!  Download today .

6. Use your presentation to highlight, not to narrate

You want your presentation to reinforce your message, so use it wisely. Your visual aids should make your service stronger, but they shouldn’t be the service’s focus.

If you try to cram every idea or point from your message into your presentation, it makes your message less effective. Be diligent about creating slides that are going to fortify your message. And do this by being very intentional about the best information to present visually. No one enjoys a presentation where all the speaker does is read their slides.

7. Make sure everything is aligned properly

If you want to make your PowerPoint presentation look really professional, make sure everything lines up correctly. Images and texts that aren’t properly aligned can give your presentation an amateur feel, so you want to make sure that everything is in its proper place. This means you don’t want to simply eyeball it.

You can align multiple objects by choosing Align from the Arrange option in the options bar. Alternatively, you can use the ruler or gridlines by clicking View and choosing these options from the Show group.

Alignment is really important if you are going from slide to slide and you have an item/object that repeats. Nothing is more distracting than a title text box that shifts as you go from one slide to the next.

8. Use graphs and charts well

Because data can add legitimacy to your presentation, there’s a temptation to overuse graphs and charts. And while graphs and charts can bolster your presentation, if used poorly, they can really detract.

Don’t feel the need to visually represent every fact or piece of data you share. But if you do, make sure you do it in an easily understood and visually appealing way.

Always ask yourself, does this data need to be represented by a chart? If so, what’s the best type of chart to use?

  • Pie charts: Best for percentages and should be kept under six slices. You can highlight the most important piece of information with a different color or by offsetting the slice.
  • Line charts: Used to communicate trends.
  • Vertical bar charts: Communicates changes in quantity over time.
  • Horizontal bar charts: Used to compare quantities.

9. Avoid clipart

Microsoft killed off their clipart in 2015, but that’s not stopping people from finding it online and inserting it into their PowerPoint presentations. I can promise you that nothing kills credibility quicker than cartoony looking clipart.  Instead, check out www.pixabay.com or www.pexels.com for some great images.  Or, check out our store!

10. Be wise with transitions and animations

Powerpoint offers a lot of transition and animation options, but this doesn’t mean that you need to use them. Many of them are going to make your presentation look pretty cheesy. For the most part, you’re going to get along fine by simply sticking to cut and fade.

If you do decide to use animations, don’t animate more than 20% of your presentation (less is better), and use one animation per presentation. Every slide shouldn’t be appearing with a unique animation.

Lastly, always shoot for the fastest transitions. Some animations seem really clever when you’re working on a presentation at home, but once you’re in the middle of your message it can be a disaster if it takes too long to go from slide to slide.

Take responsibility for your presentation

Even if you are not the person creating your presentation, that doesn’t mean that you’re abdicating the responsibility to someone else. It’s still an integral part of your sermon and you need to make sure that it complements your message.

Have a discussion with the person who puts together presentations to ensure that you’re on the same page regarding best practices. When you’re thinking about the service, consider how the presentation ties each piece together. Give your presentation builder explicit instructions each week so that they can get a sense of your vision.

7 Tips For Making a More Effective Slide Presentation For Your Church

special presentation in church

How to Make An Effective Slide Presentation for Your Church

Using slide presentation media can be intimidating for some pastors and worship leaders because they are afraid it will become a distraction. While this may be a valid concern, creating effective slide presentations is not as difficult or time-consuming as many people may think. No matter what kind of software or platform you decide to use, this article includes 7 tips you can use to make your presentation more effective for your church.

Visual presentations during a sermon or worship time can be really helpful and can enhance the teaching, but they can also be distracting and take away from the lesson if used incorrectly.

To help you make a more effective slide presentation, here are 7 tips to incorporate:

  • Pick colors wisely
  • Choose an easy-to-read font
  • Don’t use distracting transitions or animations
  • Disable screen savers and pop-ups
  • Use attractive, simple backgrounds
  • Add some images and shapes to the text
  • Don’t overdo it

special presentation in church

Visual aids like slide powerpoints should never be the main focus of your church presentation, they should simply be an “aid” to help emphasize the lesson. Let’s dive into each of these points and talk about why an effective presentation can make an impact on your church.

1. Pick Colors Wisely

Depending on the size of your church, the lighting, and where the screens are located, you want to be sure to pick colors that allow for easy viewing of the presentation. There should be a contrast between the background of the presentation and the text. If there is a dark background, choose a light text color and vice versa.

Remember that with a church presentation , you are not going for fancy and super creative – you want it to complement the lesson in a way that is not distracting, but still adds an impact.

Something that may help you when you are creating the presentation is to test different backgrounds and text colors to see how they appear in the sanctuary.

2. Choose An Easy-to-Read Font

What may be easy to read on a computer screen when you’re creating your presentation, may not be so easy to read on a large backdrop. Choosing a font style and size that allows for easy reading is important for your congregation and helps them follow along without getting behind.

Try to pick something that is sans-serif, simple (not cursive or decorative), at least 32 pt. minimum.  If you are wanting to emphasize a certain point, you can bold or italicize, but remember to do so sparingly as it can make it harder to read.

As always, test out your presentation before you use it to be sure anyone in the congregation would be able to read and understand what is on the slide.

3. Don’t Use Distracting Transitions or Animations

Unlike school presentations where creativity is helpful, be cautious not to use any cheesy slide transitions or animations. When talking about certain subjects, these devices can be very distracting and take away from the message at hand.

There are rare occurrences where using a transition or animation may help to emphasize a certain point or help as you move on to another section – just be cautious and test it out before presenting.

Oftentimes, if presentations are being used as note-taking guides, transitions can mess up the timing and people will miss the point you are trying to make, keep in mind when working on your lesson.

4. Disable Screen Saver and Pop-Ups

When in the middle of your lesson, having the screen go black or a pop-up appear is extremely distracting and can break up the flow of the presentation in a negative way. Research how to disable the screen saver feature on your computer and disable any anti-virus programs from allowing pop-ups on your screen – it’s often very simple.

While you are eliminating these distractions, you should also check on the status of your projector. Sometimes they can go to sleep or get overheated during a presentation so timing when you turn it on and how long the presentation maybe is just as important as disabling the screen saver and pop-ups.

5. Use Attractive, Simple Backgrounds

It can be hard to pick a background that seems boring or uninspiring – but it is often the best way to go. Similar to choosing a font and color, your background can help or hurt your presentation. Choosing a theme that makes your presentation flow together and “matches” will establish a focus and credibility.

You can either make your theme or choose from whatever software or platform you use (most of them have templates already created).

There are instances where having an image in the background, purposely faded and behind the text, is okay to use and won’t be distracting. If you choose to use something like this, be sure to test it out and make it go along with the lesson.

special presentation in church

6. Add Some Images and Shapes to the Text – Sparingly

We have been talking about making a presentation that is focused, easy to read, and not distracting. However, adding certain images or shapes can help emphasize a certain point if used correctly and sparingly.

Most presentation software will have shapes and arrows, diagrams, etc. where you can insert your text in a way that is helpful to understand.

These illustrations are relatively easy to insert and can help give your presentation some organization, without being distracting. Just be sure to limit how many you include on one slide, or even one presentation – the text and lesson should still be the main focus.

7. Don’t Overdo It

Similar to how a teacher uses a PowerPoint for a lesson is how you should use one for your sermon. The presentation should not contain every word you will say during the lesson – it should simply act as an aid or a guide, making the most important points stand out.

You know your congregation, your audience, so you know what works best for them. Instead of trying to “jazz things up” or make a certain lesson more fun, keep it simple and direct, letting the lesson speak for itself.

The PowerPoint should only show the main context that you can expound upon while allowing your people to see the context/principle you are talking about at all times.

Trust yourself and your church members and know that any presentation only needs to be in the background, the scripture and lesson are the most important things to focus on.

Why Should I Use a Slide Presentation for My Church?

Depending on your church, as well as your style as a pastor or church leader, slide presentations may be a more effective way of engaging your audience. Many churches use slide presentations as guides for people who take notes – this can keep people focused and help them understand the purpose of the lesson.

Slide presentations can also be helpful for you as the presenter – they can help keep you organized and on-topic. Even if you veer off on a tangent for a minute, the presentation can help you come back to the main point.

In today’s society, we have experienced the need for easy access to technology, with slide presentations, you can make your sermon available to anyone at any time. By using a slide presentation, you can easily upload it to Facebook or your church’s website , and anyone who wasn’t able to make it to church can still see the lesson.

Understanding the important uses of a slide presentation and how to make effective one can truly enhance the lesson you are preaching about.

How to Create Effective Sermon Presentation Slides for Your Church

PowerPoint slides are no longer relegated to boardrooms and classrooms. Thanks to easy-to-use technology and the proliferation of screens, presentation slides have become valuable worship aids in many churches. Pastors and Christian education leaders use PowerPoint slides to display pre-service announcements, hymn lyrics, sermon notes, prayers, portions of the liturgy, communion distribution instructions, Bible study key points and much more.

Presentation slides allow people to easily follow along and engage with the material. When used well, worship sermon slides or sermon backgrounds also grab and hold worshipers’ attention. With slide presentations, no one will ever get lost!

As a bonus, by using PowerPoint slides your church may be able to cut down on paper usage and printing costs. Although some people still prefer to have printed copies of the order of service, many worshipers have grown accustomed to following along on screens. Younger people tend to especially enjoy visual aids and multimedia options at church. But older people will adapt quickly too — and many will appreciate not having to hold up heavy hymnals and flip back to forth to the correct location.

If you’re new to creating sermon presentation slides of backgrounds — or simply want to maximize their effectiveness — check out the important tips below. With a bit of planning and know-how, you and your church staff can keep people informed while enhancing their worship and learning experiences.

4 Keys to Top-Notch Sermon Presentation Slides

PowerPoint slides should add to, not distract from, church services and gatherings. So, make sure these visual helps for creating nice backgrounds don’t unintentionally turn into hindrances!

Follow this easy advice to convey messages in a clear, succinct, and professional manner.

1. Make presentation slides as simple as possible.

Bad example of a sermon background slide.

For sermon slides, less is always more. By keeping slides simple, you draw in the congregation’s eyes and help people focus on your main points. Cluttered presentation slides appear jumbled, with excess visual clutter that’s tough to wade through.

Minimize not only the content on each slide but also the background appearance, colors, fonts, animation and images. Avoid over-styling with fancy flourishes. Instead, keep the font large. After all, sermon PowerPoint presentations backfire if they’re too small to read from a distance! Therefore, test your slides ahead of time by viewing them from the back pew or from the back of a class meeting area.

A good example of a sermon message background slide.

2. Leave plenty of white (or unfilled) space.

Don't have too much copy on your sermon background slide

Keeping sermon presentation slides simple means avoiding the temptation to cram them with text. By overfilling slides, you end up bombarding people with information — if they can even read the material in the first place.

The goal of sermon slides should be to reinforce main ideas, not provide complete thoughts. Avoid using full sentences, except when quoting or presenting Scripture. For larger Bible passages, break them down into one readable chunk per slide.

Create plenty of white space on your sermon background

3. Promote “flow” throughout the slide presentation.

For maximum effect, the flow of a set of sermon slides should follow the preacher’s message. Logical, step-by-step progressions make it easier for church members to understand and easier for your AV or media team to implement. (Remember to have these folks practice ahead of time to avoid glitches.)

One example of a naturally flowing slide presentation is a five-point takeaway from the day’s Bible reading. By featuring one point or keyword per slide, the pastor or teacher simplifies notetaking and facilitates learning.

4. Incorporate matching graphics.

Sermon background slide can match your bulletin and sermon notes

Yes, we keep emphasizing that sermon presentation slides should be “simple.” Yet that doesn’t mean they need to be plain! Loads of attractive background slides and graphics are available in the ChurchArt.com online library. Free with your subscription, these images can be searched by topic, keyword or Scripture reference. It’s a snap to find what you need!

To boost the messages on your sermon slides, pair them with matching graphics in the worship bulletin and other materials. Coordinating images help tie together all the resources you provide for the congregation. In fact, a bulletin sidebar or insert can include the sermon’s main points — the same points you display on screen.

PRO TIP: Also insert room in the bulletin for worshipers to take sermon notes, if desired. This is a great way to keep everyone — especially children and youth — engaged with the day’s message and lessons.

One more note about graphics: Don’t be afraid to repeat imagery in your slide presentation. In fact, repetition serves to reinforce key points. For example, it’s fine to repeat a background throughout an entire multi-week sermon series. Although you may not want to do this every Sunday, it works especially well for special church seasons (such as Easter and Christmas) and for ongoing efforts (such as a stewardship campaign).

Now that you know the ins and outs of effective sermon presentation slides, enjoy putting together visual masterpieces for your church’s next worship service or Bible study!

13 Best Free Church Presentation Software for Easy Worship

It’s always amusing to see some folks still using PowerPoint to project song lyrics during worship.

I mean it’s such a painfully inefficient way of doing things—especially when there are so many superior and free church presentation software that take just a few clicks to setup and get going.

If you want a PowerPoint alternative or simply want to learn more about the best church presentation software available for free to support your worship services, you should read this article.

A screen displaying lyrics and Bible texts is more or less replacing printed material at most places of worship. Depending on how it is used, the screen can be a purposeful aid or an unfortunate distraction.

Choosing the right church software to run your slides is therefore an important decision to support the worship environment.

If you’re on a tight budget, here are a number of free worship software in no particular order that offer a variety of features to suit your church presentation needs.

13 of the best free presentation software for easy worship in your church

special presentation in church

One of the most popular open source worship presentation program out there, OpenLP packs a ton of features for managing and displaying songs, Bible verses, images, videos (not video backgrounds though) and more.

It facilitates custom alerts, Bible import through CSV files, CCLI/SongSelect integration, PowerPoint file import etc.

Managing worship songs

  • OpenLP can import songs from a wide variety of sources like Easyslides, Opensong, Videopsalm, Zionworx, DreamBeam, MediaShout etc.
  • You can tag verse types, preset verse sequence, add formatting and manage songwriter information
  • A quick song search is also available

Managing Bible verses

  • Bibles can be imported from OSIS by the CrossWire Bible Society, any CSV file, OpenSong, Zefania etc.
  • You can even download a few selected verses from a Bible site, display verses in many custom formats, easily search verses by scripture reference (e.g. John 3:16-17) or by a search phrase to add into your set list
  • OpenLP integrates with one of the most popular open source media player of our times: VLC!
  • This means you can use almost any video / audio file format in OpenLP that is compatible with VLC

Slides and templates

  • OpenLP can be used to set up custom liturgies/set lists as per your church’s needs
  • Announcements, alerts or custom slides are also possible—custom slides can also be looped if required
  • OpenLP also integrates with PowerPoint, PowerPoint Viewer, LibreOffice Impress on Windows and LibreOffice Impress on Linux/FreeBSD. Imported presentations (sermon slides for example) can be controlled from inside OpenLP
  • Support for video background is under development. However, you can use a transparent theme as a workaround for now until this feature rolls out

Extra cool features

  • OpenLP also has a FREE Android remote app to control the presentation from anywhere inside your church using an Android device—as far as I know, this is a first of its kind app!
  • Built-in stage view accessible from any device with a web browser. Use any device on the local network as your stage monitor, meaning unlimited stage monitors without any extra hardware constraints.
  • Ability to add backing tracks to songs
  • OpenLP is available for Windows, Linux, Mac or FreeBSD

OpenLP is a fantastic option for anyone looking for a free and feature-packed church presentation software.

2. OpenSong

special presentation in church

If you need a super simple, free and easy worship presentation software, then look no further than OpenSong.

It may not have all kinds of bells and whistles when it comes to features, but it does just enough to meet the most important church projection software requirements.

  • OpenSong can easily double up as a worship song management tool—you can type in songs yourself or import them from CCLI’s SongSelect
  • Or you can always go to any site providing lyrics and chords for worship songs and just copy paste from there
  • Songs can be stored with chords, which of course won’t appear in presented slides. There’s a quick song transpose option also if you want to practice a song in a different key—it’s extremely convenient for musicians
  • OpenSong also provides many free song packs in various languages to help get you started
  • OpenSong’s website hosts a wide variety of Bibles that you can download for free and import into your system.
  • Zefania XML Bibles, NRSV, NIV, KJV and more are available and supported for import apart from Bibles in other languages (French, Filipino, Portuguese, German etc.)
  • Any image file can be set as a background for songs and Bible verses
  • Fonts, colors etc. can be custom formatted separately for song slides, scripture slides and alerts
  • While video backgrounds are not natively supported, it’s not completely impossible either if you can learn this workaround
  • With OpenSong, you can present songs, Bible verses and alerts specifying the order of slides, such as verse 1, then chorus, then verse 2, then bridge, then chorus again and so on
  • You can also present a preset timed loop of defined slides, create custom set lists in just a few minutes, search and find any Bible verse or song in seconds.
  • OpenSong can be installed on Windows, Mac and Linux machines.

OpenSong is great for anyone switching from PowerPoint—its simplicity and ease-of-use (I’ve taught people to use it in like 10-15 minutes flat!) make it a standout option!

I appreciate the good work doing to help spread the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks so much. Please help with the various websites to get downloads for my church.

You can also use Worship.NET – Available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/worship-net/ It’s made for ministry members who may not have much experience or expertise in managing lyrics, with it’s intuitive and simple-to-use design.

Hi all, Looking for a software that can be run directly from touch on a MS Surface Go2 10″ screen. Installed Open LP but lots of RMB required. Icons just too small on this screen. Cheers – Paul in NZ

' data-tf-not-load src=

Sorry, not aware of a software for that specific requirement.

We used MediaShout in my previous parish. When one of our volunteer projectionists could not be there, we used an IPad 9.7 to remotely control the video. It was a bit small. An IPad Pro is preferable. We used the IPad Pro 12′ as well. Since MediaShout is both available in Windows and MacOS, there never was any problem controlling the program remotely, without physically using the “projection booth” (where the control computer is located).

I don’t know about the other programs but I think it should be possible with any other program, since we did it using Teamviewer which is a program allowing you to use any computer on your network in remote.

Another option is called Song of Songs http://www.songofsongs.co.uk/

Another option worth mentioning is Big Screen. It is cloud based and works in your browser. You can read more about it here: https://bigscreen.show

I still fall back to PowerPoint. I have tried various other products, and while they can do some creative and different things, they all seem to be unable to do some essential thing. One of my main gripes is that many of them cannot do the simple task of displaying a verse with a section of it in a different color for emphasis. In the end, it is just easier and quicker to create my songs and sermon verses in PowerPoint. No CCLI plugin, but I have many songs already created and ready to go anyway. Why reinvent the wheel?

' data-tf-not-load src=

Just thought I’d point out that VideoPsalm can do this. Once you select your Verse(s) and add them to your agenda, you can right click them to convert them into an editable format in which you can do colors, fonts, and all kinds of things.

' data-tf-not-load src=

Exactly what I need too. People don’t want to see the bible verse by verse, a highlighted verse is way better.

VideoPsalm is an awesome piece of software. As a fledgling church, we were looking for presentation software that was free since we had no budget. I tried a few different ones but ended up with VideoPsalm. There is a learning curve to get started but once you get the hang of it, it’s incredibly easy to use. I can’t think of a feature I’ve needed that it couldn’t do. Video background, song imports, multiple import formats (PPT, PDF, etc), and more. Support is also great. I’ve emailed the author a few times and always get a prompt response. If you’re looking for church presentation software, even if you have a huge budget, check out VideoPsalm and you’ll love it.

Is this video mapping software that will allow you to project custom animation?

If you choose a video compatible software, you can project just about any video file.

Well done. I am currently spearheading our media team in church and we recently bought a video camera. I would like to know if there is any software that i can connect the camera to the computer so it can be projected.

Would appreciate your feedback. Thanks

Hi, we have been using Mediashout 3.5 for about 10 years, all of a sudden it just stopped working. The new version won’t run on this old computer, and when I installed on my own newer, the program is so completely different I cant comprehend myself having time to learn it, and then teach a bunch of student volunteers. Our needs are very simple. ALL of our songs and readings are already in MS Word .doc files. We don’t use any published songbooks or bibles, no video, no audio, no pdf, nothing. I only need a program that can handle matching the pages already set up in the .doc file (text is 48 pt) and populate it onto multiple slides. That’s it. Old mediashout did that just fine. New mediashout has way more features than we will ever use, and I just don’t have time to learn it.

I just tried VideoPsalm, and although it appears it should be able to do that, it doesn’t. Before I try the other 12 on the list, if anyone knows one that has just this one function, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

this was very informative! I knew there had to be options other than PPT. I use Mac OS, so it helps knowing with programs are supported. Thanks for sharing!

Not sure. But VideoPsalm (and OpenSong too I think) has converters for your existing song library, maybe you could try that.

Do any of the free software’s listed provide for a separate output to OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) so that Worshipers can see a projected screen with whatever background image is selected, and OBS sees a transparent screen with white text to use as an overlay?

Hello! I read this article with great interest. We are a Reform Jewish congregation in Scottsdale, Arizona, looking to add “presentation software” for our monthly Rock Shabbat and similar services. Are you aware of (on-line) resources for song lyrics, Torah scripture, background video that would be applicable to our congregation? Thanks!!

Sorry, not aware of a resource for that.

There is also Cantara ( https://cantara.app ), a free open source and very simple Song Presentation Software which we use in our congregation for years and really like it due to its simplicity. Maybe you can add it to the list!

Six Simple Guidelines For Great Announcement Slides

Announcement slides can play a huge role in communicating information to your church family. Whether you’re displaying this loop of slides before your service begins, at certain times during your service, or even as people are leaving, they are a great way to get the word out about upcoming events.

Just like any other form of communication, announcement slides can quickly become ignored when not executed correctly. However, if you follow these simple guidelines as you create your slides, you’ll be set up for success in making your announcements pop.

1. Less Is More When It Comes To Text

There’s nothing worse than an announcement slide that’s packed full of text. Sure, it can be tempting to put every detail of your event on your slide, but it can quickly become so overwhelming that your message gets lost.  Announcement slides are best used to generate interest, not give full details.  Keep your slides lean and leave people wanting more. Give a quick description of your event and info on where they can find out more.

905602_10153913758339283_8557900968535403755_o

2. Have A Clear Call To Action

Many times, congregations don’t know HOW to respond to the announcements that are presented to them.  Be sure to always include a call to action on your slides that gives easy instructions for how your audience can take their next step. This can be as simple as saying “sign up in the lobby after service” or “find out more on our website”.

special presentation in church

3. Use Engaging Imagery

Including images on your announcement slides is one of the easiest ways to grab the attention of your audience. Using a stylish image from Unsplash , a ministry-specific stock photo from Lightstock , or even an icon from The Noun Project can make a major difference in your design. Or, it’s even better if you have a photo from your church that you can use.

special presentation in church

4. Keep A Consistent Look

One of the best characteristics of great brands is a consistent look across all of their graphics. This is what tips you off that you’re looking at an Apple ad before you ever see a device or makes you think Nike before you see a swoosh. Rather than choosing random images for your announcement slides, use consistent colors, shapes, and fonts to create a recognizable look. Keeping your slides uniform shows intentionality and communicates that all of your events are working together under one vision.

special presentation in church

5. Keep Your Newcomers In Mind

When creating your announcement slides, be sure to remember that you have first-time guests with you. Rather than using insider ministry names and terms, write assuming that your audience knows nothing about your church. When possible, provide useful information that will help first-timers, along with seasoned members, get better connected with your church. These general slides might include information on children’s activities, service times, or how they can get involved volunteering.

special presentation in church

6. Keep Your Slides Updated Regularly

When you find a good design that also fulfills its purpose really well, it can be hard to let go. It’s important, however, to regularly swap out your announcement slides for a fresh look. Even if you only change around your colors or swap out some photos, it can go a long way to keep your message from becoming old news to regulars.

Hey! Thanks for the awesome post. Quick question, how do you all set up your Spotify account? We can’t add a profile picture or change the name to our church’s name. Any help would be amazing! Thanks!

Hey, Greyson!

We accomplished this through kind of a shady method. I created a new “person” in Facebook with our church name. I added a profile picture and then turned off any means for anyone to find this account on FB. I then synced this account with a new Spotify account.

Hope that helps!

That helps a lot and is exactly what I was thinking about doing! Glad it’s working for y’all!

special presentation in church

How do you make it to where no one can find the Facebook account? We use one for similar purposes, but some church people have found the page and tried adding it as a friend.

I cannot remember the exact settings, but I went through each page of the preferences and turned off pretty much everything.

special presentation in church

Great stuff! I struggled with the name/id as well and have most through my personal account, but it can make sharing just to the church page/other social media tricky. Thanks for the tip.

special presentation in church

Excellent points, and I love how all of the slides are so cohesive!

Thanks so much, Taylor!

special presentation in church

Great Article Kendall and I’m glad to see new blogs!!! I can definitely relate with the last tip of keeping slides fresh. I work at a very small church and we tend to repeat a lot of the same announcements each week. I struggle with the urge to just let them go on cruise control and not keep them fresh. However, I know the outcome — old, familiar slides just become background noise to our congregation. Sidebar question — I really like the designs on some of those slides. Were those done in Propresenter? I’m having trouble creating fresh designs (beyond just rectangles) within the parameters of it.

Hey, Michael!

I know the exact feeling. I think I was preaching to myself here for than anything with that one!

For the teal ones from Piedmont Chapel, I created the template in Photoshop and then brought it over to Keynote. I do all of weekly editing in there and export jpegs to ProPresenter.

special presentation in church

Just curious, Kendall, why do you use Keynote for the creation of your slides instead of just using Photoshop for all of it? Is there something in Keynote that makes it easier for you?

Patrick, I think it’s probably habit more than anything. I’ve been doing it that way for a few years. There is definitely a quickness to the export process in Keynote, though.

special presentation in church

How by chance did you export from Photoshop to Keynote? Did you save the photoshop file as a jpeg or other picture type?

special presentation in church

Mine were created purely in photoshop, I had no understanding of illustrator at the time or I would have used both.

special presentation in church

I love these!! Thanks for sharing. Wondering what fonts you used for your slides.

Hey, Erica! I believe Gotham was used on all of these.

We just adopted Gotham as our church font. We use it on our website and in publications. Do you ever use Canva or other free design tools? I’m not a PhotoShop user, and most on staff just use PowerPoint, Publisher and church or stock photos. Would love to have a more cohesive look for our worship presentations.

I mostly use Photoshop and Illustrator for everything. I’m just used to using them most.

I have brought Gotham in to ProPresenter to use for our lyrics occasionally.

I know for a fact mine were all using Gotham HTF

special presentation in church

Very good article. I do like these examples and what you say is so true when it comes to announcement slides.

Thanks so much, Roger!

Great article! Very helpful! I love the line about using the same fonts and style/colors to show that all ministries are working under one vision… love it!

Thanks, Leia! That part is so important. :)

Hey Kendall, are you willing to share your Photoshop templates for the slides?

special presentation in church

That would be a HUGE help for those of us who are on a church staff who wear multiple hats (Exec pastor/video/graphics/set-up &tear down/Small group lead…) :)

special presentation in church

Someone seriously needs to produce and sell a bunch of these templates for the time challenged volunteer.

That’s sounding like a good idea! Maybe we need a TCP store. :)

special presentation in church

Yes! That would be so helpful for those of us who are time crunched and rely on volunteers. Maybe seasonal packages?

Thanks for your helpful info

special presentation in church

This is very helpful Kendall. Please what is the name of the font used on images for point 1,2,3 thank you.

Gotham is used on all of these slides. It’s my favorite. :)

Do you use stock images for these or real pictures of your church family/members?

special presentation in church

Hey Kendall! Amazing post! Whats the font on the ‘ giving is easy ‘ slide???

It’s Gotham – my favorite font! :)

special presentation in church

I am looking at updating our slide announcements for my church, and this has given me some good food for thought. I am contemplating how many slides should be included… have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

I normally run 6-8 on a Sunday, but I don’t think there is a *correct* amount. :)

special presentation in church

Great info. Really helpful.

special presentation in church

Hi! Your article has been helpful! Another question for you… do you have a certain number of weeks you run an announcement side ahead of an event? I am trying to streamline our communication strategy for our church so I am curious. I realize it might depend on whether the event requires a registration and I am sure there is not a ‘one size fits all’ for every event but do you have a general rule how long you run them? Thanks!

How I Selected the Best Church Presentation Software

If you're wondering how I selected the best church presentation software, here's where I'll break it all down for you. First of all, I started with church presentation software that have high user review and satisfaction ratings. Then, using my experience in church management, I discerned what key criteria were most important for church presentation software and compared how each of them stacked up against the rest.

I empathize with how much time it takes to source the right software for a job. I do this work so that you don't have to. I've been using and reviewing church presentation software for years so you can trust me to do the heavy lifting and compile all the facts you need to make your final decision.

Selection Criteria

After careful consideration, I've determined that these are the most important criteria when selecting the best church presentation software. Here's a brief list outlining the whats and whys of my selection.

Ease of Use

Ease of use is a critical factor to consider when selecting church presentation software because it can greatly affect the efficiency and effectiveness of the worship service. An intuitive and user-friendly interface makes it easier for the worship team to create and manage presentations, reducing the likelihood of errors and allowing them to focus on leading worship. This can reduce the amount of training time needed for volunteers or new team members, making it easier to onboard new team members and ensure continuity in the event of staff turnover. Selecting a church presentation software that is easy to use can help ensure that the worship experience runs smoothly and effectively.

Clean, Modern Visuals

Clean, modern visuals are important when selecting church presentation software because they can help enhance the worship experience and engage the congregation. A visually appealing presentation can capture the attention of the audience and create a more immersive and impactful experience. Clean and modern visuals can help communicate the message more effectively and increase the understanding and retention of the content. In a modern world where people are constantly exposed to high-quality visuals in media and entertainment, selecting church presentation software with clean and modern visuals can help churches stay relevant and effectively communicate their message to a wider audience.

Software Integrations

Software integrations are important when selecting church presentation software because they can help streamline workflows and improve efficiency. For example, integrations with popular Bible software can allow the worship team to quickly and easily import scripture passages and display them during the service. Integrations with online giving platforms can make it easier for congregants to donate and support the church financially. Integrations with video streaming services can help churches reach a wider audience and expand their online presence. And integrations with church faculty management software can ensure hardware (like projection devices and screens) are allocated appropriately.

Pricing is an important factor to consider when selecting church presentation software because it can greatly impact the church's budget and financial resources. While there are many high-quality church presentation software options available, the cost can vary widely depending on the features and level of support provided. Churches should carefully evaluate their needs and budget to ensure that they select a software option that meets their requirements without overstretching their resources. Churches should consider the long-term costs of the software, including any ongoing fees or upgrades that may be required. You can also choose between free church presentation software or paid varieties, keeping in mind free/low cost software may come with feature limitations.

People Also Ask

I thought of a few questions while writing this list that I wanted to address here. So here you go!

Why Use Church Presentation Software?

According to a Gallup Poll, only 42% of millennials are church members. Using modern technology like church presentation software to boost worship services could be instrumental in getting more millennials to attend church services.

Church presentation software helps to make your church service accessible to the whole congregation. With a dynamic presentation displaying lyrics and scripture, the congregation can join in together.

Here’s why you should consider using the software for your church:

  • Enables congregation participation during worship

In the past, song sheets or songbooks were the norms, but church presentation software makes them obsolete. When song lyrics get projected onto a big screen or screens, the whole congregation can easily read the song and sing along without getting lost. It makes the service accessible to everyone, to the same extent, without having prior knowledge of the song.

  • Provides the congregation with quick (and multilingual) access to scripture

Many people don’t want to carry a Bible with them, as they’ll use their phone instead. But using church presentation software for sharing scripture references means your congregation doesn’t get distracted while they start looking up Bible verses! What’s more, some solutions have multilingual functionality and can simultaneously display scripture in multiple languages, which can be great for multilingual congregations.

  • Provides easy access to important information

Church presentation software enables you to share your church notices and announcements either passively before and after the service or together with verbal announcements.

What are Church Presentation Software Key Feastures/Functionality?

Many church presentation software packages include feature-rich functionality for the needs of churches to allow seamless church presentations:

  • Presentation streaming for worship services
  • Scripture database to display bible verses
  • Video file playing from worship software
  • Custom slides to allow a slideshow of notices or information
  • Slide integration from Windows and Mac software, like Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, Apple Keynote, or Google Slides
  • Layout management and customizable slide layouts
  • Multi-Screen display support
  • Real-time multilingual Bible and Bible translation support
  • Drag and drop presentation tools
  • Media library to allow worship songs playlist support including Spotify, YouTube or VLC
  • CCLI SongSelect (Christian Copyright Licensing International) usage tracking
  • Remote control (often within a functionality for the preacher to
  • Countdown for the service to begin
  • Stage display or stage view preview
  • Live streaming and recordings playback
  • Mobile/remote app for worshipers to follow along

It’s also worth considering plugins for other church management software solutions, as many, like Planning Center, offer support and integrations. We’ve invested in deep research to explore, compare, and rank church management software solutions.

Most young people these days do not attend church regularly, perceiving the services as dull or restrictive. To expand your congregation, you must take measures to ensure that everyone feels welcome, and giving great welcome speeches is one way to achieve that. However, mastering the art of giving welcome speeches in the church can be challenging. What tone should the best speeches adopt? How can you be inclusive without being too direct? What other actions should you take aside from speaking?

1. Tailor Your Speech for Every Occasion

To deliver an effective welcome speech, it’s crucial to understand the nature of the event you’re welcoming your guests to. For an average Sunday service, your tone should be positive and encouraging, while for a more solemn occasion like a funeral, a more serious tone may be more appropriate.

Your speech should also provide practical information, such as the duration of the service or whether food will be served, and include a brief description of the event to give the audience a sense of what to expect.

If you’re uncertain about what to include in your welcome speech for church, you can refer to church quotes and speech ideas for guidance. Opening with a prayer is usually appropriate, and if you’re struggling with writer’s block, leading the congregation in a prayer that reflects the event’s theme or reading a relevant passage from the Bible or another religious text can also be effective.

2. Give a Warm and Welcoming Greeting

When delivering a welcome speech, it’s important, to begin with, a brief introduction of yourself. Simply stating your name is sufficient, although you may include additional details. If you are a pastor or priest from another church, it’s helpful to mention this to avoid confusion with other staff members.

After the introduction, you can transition into the body of your speech. A statement such as “I am delighted to welcome all of you” can serve as a greeting to your audience and help you move forward.

Avoid using cliches such as “I welcome you on behalf of…” as they have lost their impact due to frequent use. Additionally, it’s best to avoid introducing someone else unless specifically requested.

When delivering the greeting, maintain a smile and raise the pitch of your voice slightly. Gesturing with an open palm signifies hospitality and openness.

Finally, when greeting anyone who joins you on stage, be sure to say their name and title, and provide a brief overview of what they will be discussing. Avoid asking for applause, as the audience will typically applaud naturally.

3. Evoke Emotions

Aside from smiling and using varied tones, employ creative language and dynamic verbs to inspire and captivate your audience. Avoid overusing adverbs or adjectives, and instead, seek out verbs with comparable meanings. For instance, “We’ll get through that quickly” can be phrased as “We’ll speed through that.”

While some speakers use humor to entertain their audience, it may not always be appropriate or effective, especially on somber occasions. If you choose to tell a joke, opt for puns or wordplay instead of potentially offensive material. Avoid making jokes at someone else’s expense and be cautious with self-deprecation. Experiment with rhyming as another way to connect ideas and capture your audience’s attention.

4. Keep It Short

Welcome speeches typically do not exceed 150 words. Avoid lengthy exegesis of the Bible or introducing a guest during this time. Simply convey the necessary information to commence the occasion and proceed. Try drafting your speech verbatim and then revise to eliminate any unnecessary details, in addition to adverbs and adjectives. If the priest or pastor will address specific points later, exclude them from your speech.

Announcements and in-house business should be postponed for another opportunity. Reminders for upcoming events can be disseminated through emails and text messages.

When welcoming worshippers, aim to appeal to first-time visitors. Avoid using phrases such as “Welcome members of my church,” and instead try using inclusive language such as “Welcome brothers and sisters.”

It’s also helpful to acknowledge first-time visitors by saying something like, “We’re glad you’re here with us today.” However, avoid singling them out by name or making them feel uncomfortable. Providing directions to key areas of the church, such as the welcome center or restrooms, can also be useful, especially in larger churches.

To put first-time visitors at ease, consider mentioning that they are not expected to participate in singing or stand up during the service. While you should avoid promoting upcoming events, it is okay to mention that your church meets every week and that visitors are welcome to join for the next service. Additionally, consider inviting newcomers to a gathering specifically designed for them.

5. Practice, Again, Perfect!

Write a draft and read it aloud to ensure its coherence. Then rehearse gestures and facial expressions in front of a mirror. Record your speech to identify areas for improvement and rehearse those parts until perfect. During delivery, maintain eye contact with the audience and avoid focusing on a single person. Lastly, get feedback from the service leader and other speakers to avoid repetition and ensure a smooth introduction.

Before we part ways, let us bow our heads in prayer. Heavenly Father, we thank you for the precious moments we’ve shared today. May the grace and peace of Your presence abide with us as we go forth from this sacred place. Grant us strength, wisdom, and a heart filled with love to navigate the days ahead. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless you and keep you; may the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace. Amen.

As we conclude this gathering, may the love of Christ bind us together, and may the spirit of unity and grace guide our paths until we meet again. Thank you, and go in peace.

But you need more than just a run-of-the-mill church welcome speech and you can’t just make it up on the spot…

No, no, no! You need a great church welcome speech that’s going to welcome first-time visitors and set the right expectations.

Well, look no further because you’ve stumbled upon a goldmine of 10 dynamic church welcome speeches guaranteed to kickstart your service with a bang 💥

So let’s make your next service a service to remember , where hearts are touched, souls are stirred and lives are forever changed.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

What Is A Church Welcome Speech?

5 key elements of a church welcome speech, 10 church welcome speeches you can use, 4 great church welcome speech examples.

A church welcome speech is a brief address delivered at the beginning of a church service, usually by a church MC or worship leader..

More than a mere greeting, a church welcome speech is an opportunity to connect with both new and old faces, create a warm and inviting atmosphere, give valuable information and set the stage for a great worship experience.

Whether your church is big or small, black or white, Baptist or Pentecostal, in the US or the Philippines, a great church welcome speech has 5 key elements.

Let’s walk through each one 👇

1. A Simple Introduction

The key here is to keep it short and sweet, yet warm and friendly.

As they say: less is more.

Especially when it comes to opening your church service. Say what needs to be said and move on.

A good church welcome officially starts the service and gets everyone focused, so give a quick introduction of yourself and the church.

This can be as simple as “Good morning and welcome to Grace Church. I’m Abi and it’s great to see you all here.”

2. Set Expectations

When done right, the person opening the service can help raise the faith level of your church right before entering into worship.

Help set the tone by giving everyone a general idea of what’s going to happen. You don’t need to give a minute-by-minute breakdown of the service, just a quick overview is good enough.

This is a good place to mention your current sermon series  or special guest speaker if you have one.

3. Give Useful Information

Give everyone the practical information they need to relax and feel comfortable.

Gently remind people to put phones on silent, tell them they’ll be coffee afterwards and point out where the Kid’s Church and bathrooms are.

4. Welcome Visitors

It’s good to take a moment to specifically welcome first-time guests and let them know you’re glad they’re here.

Launching your service this way is not only a great way to make church visitors feel at home :

It also helps outward-focused culture and sends a clear message to members that this is a safe place they can invite their family and friends to.

If your church has visitor connect cards (so you can do follow-up later) ask them to fill them out and drop them in the offering basket as it passes by.

5. End With What’s Next

Now you’ve officially opened up the meeting, it’s time to transition into the next part of the service.

If you’re going into worship, have everyone stand. Lead everyone in a faith-filled prayer welcoming the Holy Spirit to move in hearts and minds.

If it’s the sermon next, thank God for His Word, pray that their hearts and minds be ready to receive what God has to say to his people, then have everyone clap their hands to welcome the preacher.

Let’s stand together and pray as we enter into worship. [PRAYER]

I wanted to end things here with some real-life examples and give you my thoughts on what I think works well.

It’s good to keep your speeches becoming predictable by mixing them up a little.

Here are 4 different styles and approaches you could take in your church:

1. The Comedic Approach

What a clever and funny way to open the service! Almost rapping, he does a great job of welcoming visitors, having them stand while the church applauds.

I also like how he sets expectations, saying “Today is Youth Sunday” .

YouTube video

2. The Evangelistic Approach

This wonderful woman has a really warm but powerful way of welcoming people to the church.

She starts off by getting people ready to worship and hear the Word. This can be a powerful way to set the tone for the rest of the service.

She introduces the church pastors and even points them out individually. This might work well depending on your style of church.

I was surprised to hear her nearly do an alter call saying “Don’t leave here today without knowing Jesus.”

She’s passionate and friendly, everything you want in someone giving the welcome at your church.

YouTube video

3. The Helpful Approach

This welcome takes less than a minute but works really well and is a great example of how we can make our church services more welcoming for guests.

He leads by introducing himself saying he’s part of the hospitality team and makes himself available if he can help them in any way, right before asking first-time visitors to stand up and thank them for coming.

YouTube video

4. The Faith-Fuelled Approach

This next one is short and sweet, but it’s a masterclass on how to use your church welcome speech to raise the faith level through the roof!

You made a good point that having a strong welcome speech that has emphasis on evangelization can help a lot in making the people ready for worship. I’m planning to get church worship services for my neighborhood association that will be celebrating its foundation day on December. If the quarantine has been lifted by then, I think having a thanksgiving Mass would be ideal for that gathering.

Very helpful, glad I found your site.

I feel so bless coming across your site. I was assigned to do a welcome remark and I was about to refuse but thought of like saying “no” to Jesus. I prayed for guidance and Holy Spirit led me to it. Thank you for the wonderful ideas. Bless you Bishop!

10 ways to make your mother's day church service exceptional.

Posted by Samantha Decker

If you’ve seen a mom in action, you know that they are pretty amazing. They are typically the ones running around, taking care of everyone else, and thinking of themselves last. While moms deserve appreciation every day, your church has a great opportunity to reach out to the moms in your church once a year and make your Mother’s Day church service exceptional.

However, it’s also important to remember and be sensitive to the needs of your congregation. Mother’s Day can be a difficult day for people who have recently lost their mom, are having fertility issues, have experienced miscarriage, or don’t have a good relationship with their mom. Don’t shy away from this during your Mother’s Day church service, instead acknowledge the hurts and be available to minister to those who need it.

This year, we wanted to compile a list that helps you think outside the box. While flowers and applause are always nice gestures, what can you as a church do to truly make your Mother’s Day church service special?

Here are ten Mother’s Day church service ideas to get you started:

1. Be Specific

Motherhood is not a “one size fits all” calling. There are many different types of moms and people fulfilling the role of a mom. If you can make people feel seen and acknowledged in your Mother’s Day church service, it will make it memorable.

A few specific groups to include and acknowledge could be first-time moms, adoptive moms, foster moms, grandmas, those who lost a mom/grandma this year, those who want to be and will be moms, among others.

Find a way to minister to each group uniquely. One of our favorite ways to do this is to read  this poem  by Amy Young that acknowledges different people during your Mother’s Day church service. You could also have cards or bookmarks with specific Scriptures tailored to bless each group.

2. Have Moms Share Their Stories

Nobody relates more to motherhood than other moms. One of the best ways you can make your Mother’s Day church service exceptional is to choose a few moms in your church to share their stories. Select mothers from various stages of life—pregnant moms, new moms, seasoned moms, grandmas, moms who have experienced infertility or miscarriage. Having a wide range will help more people relate and feel included.

First, find a few moms who would be willing to share the good, the bad, and the ugly of motherhood. Secondly, designate a time in your service where they can speak (in person or on video). Lastly, encourage them to be open and encouraging. This is a time to enjoy, celebrate, and reveal a dependence on the Lord through the journey of motherhood.

3. Show A Video of Kids Discussing Their Moms

This is sure to be a crowd favorite, because who doesn’t love funny or heartfelt videos of kids?! Plus, this gives your church staff the opportunity to get a little creative and compile a video that will make you laugh and tug at your heartstrings all at the same time.

Before conducting the interviews, be sure that you have parental consent. Then have a list of questions prepared. A few examples of potential questions include:

  • What does your mom do first thing in the morning?
  • How does your mom show you that she loves you?
  • Why do you love your mom?
  • What is something funny your mom does?
  • If you could give your mom anything for Mother’s Day, what would it be?

Have your children’s pastor or another member of your staff sit down with kids of different ages to ask the questions and film the answers. Then, compile them all into a Mother’s Day video for your church service.

4. Give Mothers A Gift

If you are looking for a more traditional way to celebrate moms during your church service for Mother’s Day, give them a gift. This doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. A simple, thoughtful gift will mean a lot.

Here are a few of our favorite Mother’s Day gift ideas for your church service:

  • Flowers (bonus points for having a variety to let moms choose their favorite)
  • Chocolates
  • Books (we recommend  Missional Motherhood by Gloria Furman )
  • Gift card (to coffee shops, restaurants, department stores, etc.)
  • Journal
  • Coffee Mug or Tumbler

5. Offer Free Chair Massages

Talk about relaxation for busy moms! If you truly want to make your Mother’s Day church service exceptional, set up a chair massage station that all moms can stop by before or after the service. Many local massage schools will send students to come and give chair massages for a reasonable price, so be sure to look around.

This will not only show moms that you value them, but it will help them feel pampered too!

6. Receive a Special Offering

Another great way to make a difference this Mother’s Day is to take up a special offering designated to a ministry that supports moms, women, and/or children.

Maybe your church already supports a ministry that helps moms and children, or maybe you need to do some research in your area. Either way, be sure that the special offering is going to a cause that will be meaningful to the mothers in your congregation. While the offering is taken up, lead your congregation in a Mother’s Day prayer or song for your church service.

7. Host A Meal

The key to hosting a meal for your Mother’s Day church service is to ensure that the moms are not responsible for the planning, cooking, or cleaning! Whether you choose to do breakfast, lunch, or brunch, recruit the men in your church to get involved.

The meal doesn’t need to be anything fancy (though it can be if you want). It just needs to be good food that moms don’t have to prepare or clean up after. This is a gift in itself!

8. Set Up a Special Coffee Station

If your church is anything like my church, you typically have coffee available. However, this coffee is usually the mass-produced bags that are in ginormous coffee makers. To make your Mother’s Day church service special, consider setting up a special coffee station for moms.

At this coffee station, you could have fancy creamers and sugars and offer different brews. If you want to get really fancy, consider hiring a barista to come in and make specialty coffees like lattes and mochas for the mothers in attendance. Or, if your church already has a café, offer free coffee and tea drinks to the mamas.

9. Make a Photo Booth or Backdrop

As a mom, I know how hard it is to actually be in a picture. Usually, moms are the ones behind the camera taking pictures of their kids. However, to make your Mother’s Day church service exceptional, make a photo booth or backdrop and offer to take pictures of mothers with their families. Get creative and make the photo space cute for moms and kids alike.

This is a great way to capture the holiday and make mom feel special. Not to mention a wonderful keepsake for years to come.

10. Honor Moms in Your Sermon, Church Website, and Promotional Material

Lastly, be sure to appreciate moms everywhere you possibly can on that day. Include a note to moms in your Mother’s Day church service bulletin and preach a Mother’s Day message for a church service.

It’s also a good idea to center the sermon around motherhood or parenthood in general. Be sure to announce this on your  church website  so people will know in advance that there will be a Mother’s Day theme during your church service. The more places that you can put this information the better!

Thomas Costello March 3, 2023 Uncategorized 2 Comments

Hopefully, you’re ready to celebrate one of the biggest holidays of the year for churches – Mother’s Day!

While it’s not as big as Christmas or Easter, churches typically see a big attendance spike on Mother’s Day weekend. If you’re at a loss for how to make this Sunday morning special, we’ve got some Mother’s Day church ideas to spark your creative juices.

Read on for nine ways to encourage, honor, and highlight moms.

Estimated reading time: 10 minutes

Mother’s Day is a special day to honor and appreciate the women in our lives who have taken on the role of motherhood. It’s a time to show our love and gratitude for the countless sacrifices, selfless acts of kindness, and unwavering support that mothers provide for their families.

Churches have an important role to play in celebrating Mother’s Day because they provide a platform for communities to come together and show their appreciation for all the moms here in their midst. By organizing Mother’s Day events, services, and gifts, churches can help create an atmosphere of love, warmth, and support that makes mothers feel valued and appreciated.

In addition to being a day of celebration, Mother’s Day is also an opportunity for churches to recognize the unique challenges and struggles that mothers face in today’s world. Many mothers juggle multiple roles and responsibilities, including work, parenting, and caregiving, which can be both physically and emotionally exhausting.

Mothers also face unique societal pressures and expectations that can leave them feeling overwhelmed and isolated. By acknowledging and addressing these challenges, churches can help create a more supportive and inclusive environment for mothers, where they feel valued, understood, and supported.

Ultimately, celebrating mothers on Mother’s Day is a powerful way for churches to demonstrate their commitment to building strong, loving, and caring communities that uplift and support all members, including the amazing women who make the world a better place with their love and care.

Here are the 11 most popular ways for church leaders to honor moms on Mothers Day at your church.

1. Choose relatable church Mother’s Day songs

When it comes to Mother’s Day, the right choice of worship songs is critical. The right choice will create an impactful and uplifting celebration that Moms will really appreciate.

As a general rule, it makes sense to look for worship songs that speak to themes that we often associate with Mother’s Day. Some of these ideas might include:

Thankfulness

But the question is, what are the right kinds of songs for Mother’s Day?

Looking for some song ideas for Mother’s Day this year. Here are a few of the most popular:

The Blessing – Kari Jobe

Reckless Love – Cory Asbury

Ever Be – Bethel Music

Oceans – Hillsong United

What A Beautiful Name – Brooke Ligertwood

Sharing a poem about moms with the church on Mother’s Day is an excellent way to honor these extraordinary women. Poetry is an art form that often speaks in ways that words can’t, pouring out powerful emotion and conveying feelings beyond what we can express in our everyday conversations.

A poem about motherhood offers an opportunity for both those who are mothers and those who are honoring them to contemplate the beauty of the unique bond between a parent and child. It gives pause to truly appreciate all that mothers do throughout their lives, from sacrifice and selfless love, to providing us with nurturing care and guidance.

Additionally, sharing this kind of poem can provide comfort and joy to many parents in the congregation, especially those who have lost sons or daughters or have difficult relationships with their own mothers. Ultimately, it allows everyone to celebrate motherhood as we draw strength from each other’s stories and reflect on God’s grace within our own lives.

When it comes to service elements, it’s all about creativity and the sky’s the limit. Some Mother’s Day ideas include doing a special prayer for mothers, a worship song feature, having special song, a video montage of mothers and their children, or even having a female guest speaker or mother sharing her testimony.

The tone could be sentimental or funny. It depends on your team, what you’ve done in the past, and what you’re hoping to accomplish in the overall theme of the day. Here are some  Mother’s Day videos  from Re:think Worship for inspiration.

If you’re hosting a brunch, be sure to let your members know ahead of time. Moms tend to like plans, and if you have something at the church you need to make sure they can work it into their schedule.

You can get creative with the food as well – it doesn’t have to be a traditional brunch. Offer a potluck, a build-your-own waffle or pancake bar, donuts, or even just some baked goods for moms to grab on their way out. Or, you could get creative with a beverage bar serving coffee, tea, lemonade, or juice.

5. Have a special church Mother’s Day Gift

Gifts are always a nice way to show your appreciation for all that mothers do. It doesn’t have to be anything big or expensive – a simple mug or candle with the church’s logo or a heartfelt note would be much appreciated. You could also get creative and put together a Mother’s Day basket with some of her favorite things like lotions, soaps, books, or even a gift card to her favorite restaurant or store. Another great idea is handing out a devotional or book specifically for moms.

Here are some of the most popular Mother’s Day gift ideas for churches.

A packet of flower seeds and a small plant pot

A handmade card with a thoughtful message

A small photo frame with a printed family photo

A sachet of fragrant dried flowers or potpourri

A set of colorful pens and a notebook or planner

A mini succulent or cactus plant

A small box of gourmet tea or coffee

A scented candle in a tin or glass jar

A personalized bookmark with a Mother’s Day message

A small box of chocolates or candy

A jar of homemade jam or honey

A small bouquet of wildflowers or fresh herbs

A set of decorative fridge magnets

A DIY kit for making a handmade gift or craft

A bookmark or print featuring a Bible verse about mothers

This is a great way to involve the kids in the Mother’s Day celebration. Set up a table with supplies like construction paper, markers, stickers, and glue, and give kids crafts or let them make cards or small presents for their mothers. You could even have some pre-made templates or ideas to help them get started.

An event is a meaningful way to celebrate the special bond between mothers and their children. You could have a tea party, dance, nature walk, picnic, or even just do an activity at the church like painting or making crafts. You could also use this as an opportunity to feature a guest speaker, have a special time of prayer, and teach the children about the importance of mothers and what they do for us.

One of the less common Mother’s Day ideas on this list is hosting a mother-child look-alike contest. This is always a fun one and you can get creative with how you do it. You could have a runway show, a photo booth, or just have people vote on the most identical mother-child look-alike pair based on submitted photos.

You could also feature the contest on social media leading up to Mother’s Day weekend. Have people post their pictures and tag your church, then show some of the best posts during service and announce the winner. This is a great way to involve the whole church and have some lighthearted fun.

There are multiple ways to engage your church members and community on social media this Mother’s Day. Here are a few Mother’s Day ideas:

Share a photo of your church’s Mother’s Day flowers and ask everyone to tag their favorite moms in the comments.

Post a poll asking people to vote for their all-time favorite Mother’s Day movie, book, or TV show.

Encourage people to share their favorite photo or memory of their mom with a special hashtag.

Start a discussion in the comments about what attributes make a mom great.

Share a quote from the Bible about mothers or motherhood.

Whatever you do, make sure to create content that is both engaging and uplifting. After all, Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate moms and the amazing women in our lives!

10. Host a Mother’s Day photo opportunity.

Every mom loves a great family photo to capture memories. Set up a photo booth with props, backdrops, and even costumes, and let people take pictures with their mothers. A photo booth can also serve double-duty as a Mother’s Day gift if you’re able to provide prints that moms can take home.

If You are looking for some inspiration here are a few ideas that may help get your creative juices flowing.

Chalk Board Mother's Day Photo Booth

One of our favorite Mother’s Day ideas is to provide some special acts of service to moms. Examples include a car wash, oil change, or free massages. It could also be free coffee or babysitting for mom to have an afternoon out. Taking time to offer these services is especially impactful for single moms who may be caring for their children solo and don’t have anyone to plan a special day or provide a break for them.

On this note, when it comes to Mother’s Day, be aware that it’s a sensitive time for some women. Some ladies have never married, haven’t been able to conceive, or have lost a child. Others may have had an abusive mother – sadly that happens. One way to address this is to honor women and the characteristics of motherhood (such as nurturing and biblical womanhood) in general. You can also acknowledge some of these less-than-ideal scenarios to ensure everyone feels seen and understood.

If you started planning your Mother’s Day services or events yet? If not, don’t worry! Take this list of Mother’s Day ideas to your creative team and see what you can come up with. Be sure to comment below and let us know how your church celebrates the special gift of motherhood.

Half our small church is seniors, most whose mothers have passed away, and the other half are university students, whose mothers are on far away country and who have not entered the stage of motherhood themselves yet. Makes it challenging to know how to approach Mother’s Day!

Great question. I’d say honor the moms in your church, and maybe take a minute to remember the moms who are no longer with us.

Creative Mother’s Day Ideas for Church

Mother’s Day Ideas

*new video* – mother’s day reflection.

Well it’s that time of year again.  Here’s a collection of Mother’s day video clips and creative ideas of how you can celebrate Mother’s day in your Sunday Worship service.  Check out a couple great posts by Amy Young about Mother’s day from a non-Mom’s perspective.

  • “An open letter to pastors {A non-mom speaks about Mother’s Day}”
  • “Beyond the Surface of Mothering –  A Prayer For Mother’s Day”

Mothering God

Isaiah 66:13 “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”

One theme to tackle is the connection between God and motherhood.  We did an entire service based on this theme and talked about letting God be bigger then our boxes or definitions.  You can read about the whole service here.   God in a Box

Include Kids

A common idea for Mother’s Day is to include kids in some way.

  • Have kids share things they like about their Mom in a sentence
  • Have the kids participate in giving flowers to their mothers after the service
  • Have your Sunday School classes work the week before Mother’s Day to create a giant Mother’s Day card and place it in the foyer for Sunday Morning.
  • Take a video camera to your Sunday School Classes a few weeks before Mother’s day and get some candid quotes from kids about their Moms.

Pick A Few Moms To Share Their Story

Pick 3 Mom’s in your congregation and have them share their journey of being a mother.  We’ve done this several times at our church and it’s incredibly refreshing and inspiring to hear Mom’s talk about the joys and struggles of being a mother.

There are always many themes to focus on each Sunday, but you can highlight some themes that connect with Mother’s Day by highlighting themes of compassion, care, rest, healing, tenderness, encouragement, etc.

I would love to purchase the script for the NEW VIDEO* – MOTHER’S DAY REFLECTION. Is there a way I can do that?

Danielle

Great videos, would you have them in Spanish? There are so many churches who work with the Hispanic population this would be a great market and a blessing!

Jannet

Great article, really appreciate the efforts, here are a few good quotes and wishes for mothers Day http://www.awesomenesses.com/2016/04/06/mothers-day-wishes-2016/

Amy Young

Thanks for including the letter I wrote to pastors! Super grateful. I’ve got another letter coming out in a week or two that will include a prayer/blessing called “Beyond the Surface of Mothering” and uses about 20 illustrations of mothering from the scripture. My hope, like yours, is to help equip pastors. What would be a good way to share the next letter with you? Again, thanks :)! Amy

SuJo

Amy was your letter the open letter to pastors (a non-mom speak…)? If so the link is broken but I am preparing a Mothering Sunday service (Uk is 6th March this year) – any chance I could see it?

Dan Loewen

The link must of changed – I believe this is the updated link. http://www.messymiddle.com/an-open-letter-to-pastors-a-non-mom-speaks-on-fathers-day/

Katelyn

It can be hard to feel like less of a woman at church on Mother’s Day because God hasn’t brought a husband and family into your life and you’ve only loved and cared for other people’s children.

I can’t imagine how the infertile, mothers of lost children, those who have miscarried must feel…

admin

Yes its a difficult line between appreciating the mothers we have and also being sensitive to so many different life situations where Mother’s day is a really painful day. This post has some great thoughts on this balance. http://www.messymiddle.com/2012/05/10/an-open-letter-to-pastors-a-non-mom-speaks-about-mothers-day/

Yes, I enjoyed her article last year and shared it with others this year.

NAOMI

i am thinking now of my daughter as i read Katelyn’s message ,and i feel what my daughter must go through not having a kid ,and always caring for other children but GOD Knows the infertile situation ,

Janet

Thank you! I will check out that link. I’m interested in the last one, “Mother’s Day Blessings” – though “Mighty” is great too.

Roshee

i really like the grand mother’s day card thank you!

sandra juarez

I love the video mighty for my mothers day program at church. how do i go about to get it? Thank You.

I added some links in the post – mighty is available here. http://journeyboxmedia.com/mighty

Crystal

I would love to show one of these at our church on Mother’s Day….How may I get the video without it being watermarked?

You can purchase them on the companies website or http://www.worshiphousemedia.com . Which video are you interested in?

Carmen Acosta

These videos were so impacting! I was in tears! Thanks for sharing.
