Resume Genius is particularly helpful because you can search for a job and see prewritten text for the description that you can add or edit. When finished, you can easily toggle between different templates to see what looks best for the final product. You also have the option to directly share your resume with Indeed or Resume Library. 

The site can also help you build cover letters and curriculum vitae. After you input all your information, you can choose different layout styles and colors. It's easy to move through, but you have to do it in order and fill in all the information before continuing. Resume Genius also offers examples of resumes, CVs and cover letters for specific jobs, as well as recommended jobs near you. You can download the resume you create for $3 (which starts a 14-day trial for Resume Genius Pro), or $8 (which kicks off a monthly subscription plan). Resume Star 2 isn't the most visually stunning resume design app for iOS, but it gets the job done. The app offers some example resumes you can start with and edit as needed, including job-specific ones for a: cashier, dental hygienist, receptionist, waitress, mechanic and senior manager.

You can add or delete any sections you like without needing to hit save every time you add information, and you can see your resume update as you go. The autosave feature makes it easy to toggle quickly between the different sections as well. At the end, you'll have a basic resume ready to go. The app's interface doesn't offer as much guidance about how to write your resume or what types of information to include. If you need extra help, tap the information icon in the bottom left and choose the Resume Writing Guide. This will open up a crash course on resume writing in your mobile browser. It also includes a job search feature. 

The app collects payment via donations after you use the service -- you don’t have to pay if you don’t want to. The app connects to iCloud, and you can export your resume as a PDF to any location on your device(s). Resume Star 2 has a 4.8 out of 5 rating, and more than 1,800 ratings in the App Store . As Dead & Company’s Las Vegas residency resumes this Memorial Day weekend, with dates set to take the group into mid-July, stunning visuals continue to define the Sphere experience, with the group finding new ways to present the legendary music of the Grateful Dead even after nearly 60 years.

Drummer Mickey Hart’s artwork has appeared not only on the exterior of the Sphere itself but it’s also incorporated within the group’s specially-crafted Sphere live sets.

Employing a Pythagorean monochord and a subwoofer, Hart utilizes vibration to bring out incredible visuals via carefully-curated paint color schemes, a unique process dubbed vibrational expressionism.

Rhythm remains at the heart of everything he does, influencing both his music and art, a characteristic on full display as Hart presents his paintings during “Art at the Edge of Magic,” a free, interactive exhibit set to run through the residency as part of the Venetian’s “ Dead Forever Experience .”

“Dead Forever” features 22,000 square feet dedicated to celebrating the legacy of the Grateful Dead, with Hart taking part in the design of “ Art at the Edge of Magic ,” which features a black light immersion driven by a powerful combination of images and sounds as well as transformative work from his latest series “Roadmaps to Higher Consciousness.”

“Of course, people wanted to see the art. And it seemed like a natural thing to do. So, we’re showing it in Vegas in the pop-up and in a second gallery as well,” said Hart, whose work will also be displayed at Animazing Gallery within the Venetian Resort’s Grand Canal Shoppes during the Sphere run. “We just came off of a stadium tour. So, coming to the Sphere is almost like your living room in a way,” Hart explained. “It’s very small. 17 or 18,000 seats and everybody is right on top of you. They can really see you. And you can really see them. Normally, I can’t see the end of the crowd. But, now, I can see their eyeballs. So, it’s very intimate in its way,” said the drummer. “You have competing delivery systems: you have tremendous audio/visual displays of power. If the visual doesn’t overpower it, you’re able to find that magic when they come together.”

I spoke with Mickey Hart about the rhythm at the heart of both his music and art, marrying audio and visual ideas during Dead & Company’s Sphere residency and the importance of pushing it forward. A transcript of our video call, lightly edited for length and clarity, follows below.

Jim Ryan : When you first started painting in earnest, how exciting was it to discover a whole new means of self-expression like that, a new medium with no rules?

Mickey Hart : Oh, it was tremendous. It was just by accident actually. I was buying my daughter a birthday gift. And in the toy store there was a little painting kit. She didn’t pick it up - but I did one night. And it was just by accident that I fell into it. And that’s how it all started about 25 years ago, I think it was, when I first started.

It was a hobby, you know? It was something to keep my mind active and engaged when I wasn’t playing music.

Ryan : I have to admit, I was not familiar with the term vibrational expressionism. How does that sort of sum up your artwork?

Hart : I was struck by that name as well. It was just pinned on me. I didn’t make it up - but that’s what they call it. It’s all about the vibratory process I guess you might say. Because, of course, I live in the world of vibrations. So, it goes with the turf.

But the reason that it is called vibrational expressionism is that I use the vibration to birth these works. I mix multi-color in my paints. So, in order for all of the paints to come up through the other paints, to reveal the inner workings of it and the details of it, I have to use vibration. I started just banging on things and drumming them - but that got a little unwieldy. So, I use a subwoofer. And I use the Pythagorean monochord to excite the subwoofer. I put the paintings on top of the subwoofer - therefore vibrating it at certain different frequencies all of the time. And that’s how the paints kind of rise up from within each other. And I guess that’s why they call it vibrational expressionism.

I don’t use a brush really. I find it very limiting. I’m not that kind of a visual artist. But I do vibrate them. And it’s the details that are created in the vibratory process - which you can’t get any other way. I’ve never been able to.

I kind of like the term. It certainly fits. But that’s the bottom line in all of my work.

Ryan : Obviously, rhythm is such an important element of everything you do, whether it’s music or art. How does rhythm sort of inform your work?

Hart : Yes, of course it does. My cosmologies and the vibratory - the origin of the universe, which is vibratory. And nature, you know? The big bang, 13.8 billion years ago, started it. That’s the downbeat. That’s the first rhythm that we know of in the universe. And those rhythms are all washing over us as well. So, the cosmology fits, you know? My books are all about that. And it just kind of spilled over into the visual domain as opposed to the audio domain. And it really suits me.

Ryan : Well, the latest series “Roadmaps to Higher Consciousness.” How does art kind of act as a transformative power there?

Hart : Well, the eye is more powerful than the ear as an organ. The music is transformative in nature. And when you create this kind of art - which is improvisational in nature - it has transformational powers as well. It raises your consciousness and makes you feel good. It makes you happy.

You see things in it that you only see if you look at it at length. There’s discovery constantly. I see things in my paintings all of the time - months after I painted them. Even years after I painted them, I’ll look back at them and see mountain ranges or animals or people or ghosts - all kinds of images. And that plays into the transformational moment: because it’s gravity, movement and vibration. I play with gravity. I play with movement. And, of course, vibration. It works perfectly. Because that’s what I do when I drum. When I play with Dead & Company.

I hope that that work is transformational - and leads to higher consciousness. It does for me. That’s why I do it. That’s what art does at its best.

I’ve looked at the masterworks. I know Pollock’s work and so forth. And they were a great influence to me. Monet - his work and his expressionism. So, it’s very natural and very easy. I go to the canvas - or the plexiglass or the wood or the glass or whatever I do - with an empty mind kind of. I just create something from nothing - which is really the transformational moment. And that’s what it’s all about.

It’s so much fun for me. And it lends itself into my day job - which is moving air.

Ryan : You mentioned how your art is largely improvisational - with the exception of the mixing of the paints. What are you hoping for when you’re mixing the paints and creating those color schemes?

Hart : Well, different colors are different goals. If I work in black and gold or black and silver, they’re stark, you know? They’re opposites. If I work in shades, that’s a whole other kind of way of approaching it.

I do give a lot of thought to the mixing process. That’s for sure. You have to. Because if you don’t, it just turns out like blobs. And you’re not really creating anything of great beauty. And that’s the object of it: to create something great - beyond your imagination. You go, “Wow. It’s amazing.” And, when I feel that, then it’s all worth it.

I get, personally, a spiritual payload myself. Forgetting about the casual viewer or the serious viewer, it really makes me high. It really gets me high. I love it. It transforms me. Higher consciousness is really a big part of life - to be able to overcome disease or conflict. To make you happy. And to maybe make a better world? Well, you couldn’t want to do more than that.

That’s really what an artist does whether it’s audio or visual or everywhere in between. You’re supposed to reflect the consciousness of the day. And I think that this is that way. It does that very thing.

Ryan : Well, your art is also incorporated within the Sphere set. I saw U2 at the Sphere . And, by the time I got to Las Vegas, I had seen a lot of photos and lots of videos. I knew it would be an immersive experience. So, I thought I had some idea of what I was in for. But, I have to admit, when that show started, it was still one of those “Wow!” moments. Those don’t come around a lot. What was your initial reaction to the space?

Hart : It’s a challenge playing in there. Not letting the lights overpower the music. When lights and sound come together in the correct way, it’s magic. Sound and lights. Very powerful organs: the ear and the eye. And, when it comes together, wow! It’s just wow moments. I call it “pow.” It’s a pow moment! Pow, man. Pow! When I get pow, I’m there.

We just came off of a stadium tour. So, coming to the Sphere is almost like your living room in a way. It’s very small. 17 or 18,000 seats and everybody is right on top of you. They can really see you. And you can really see them. Normally, I can’t see the end of the crowd. But, now, I can see their eyeballs. So, it’s very intimate in its way.

It’s kind of like being in the belly of a giant beast - a giant robot. It’s artificial intelligence. It’s very complex. And it is a sphere. I had never played in a sphere before. So, it’s a completely different psychoacoustic situation there. You have to deal with the way it sounds and the way it looks. It’s a completely different thing than a concert - whether it be in front of 500,000 people or not.

But it is a challenge. It wasn’t easy. When you first play at a place like that, it is different acoustically. There’s no sound really coming from the stage - it’s all coming from speakers all around. Thousands of speakers - which you don’t see. The audience doesn’t see them, we don’t see them. There’s nobody on stage except us - which is a different situation. Normally, it’s a family affair. We just get on the stage and we do what we do. Well, we do it differently now.

The music is improvisational. The visuals are not necessarily tied to the music completely - once in a while, perhaps. Because we don’t have time limits on our songs. They end when they end. We were never really good at endings! (Laughs)

We were never good at beginnings and we never really practiced endings. So, it goes from one thing to another pretty seamlessly at times. And that’s where the magic is. It’s always been like that in the Grateful Dead and in Dead & Company as well.

Ryan : I’ve heard you refer to making art as an escape. I remember sitting at Wrigley Field last summer during a Dead & Company show and thinking that that also felt like an escape. How important of a role is that for music and art to play?

Hart : The notion of escape… Yes. That’s an interesting notion. It’s an escape from reality for sure. That’s what music is all about. Music is made to involve people and life - that’s its primary focus. That’s what music is meant to do.

Sure, it’s escapism - but to where is the question. Where are you escaping to? If you’ve escaped to nowhere, that’s nowhere. You have to escape to someplace that’s rewarding and life-giving. And this is what it is. After a session, I’m just really filled with the creative spirit. I can’t wait to get back in the studio to do it again. Just like, when I perform, I can’t wait to get back on the stage.

They’re very similar. Because painting to me is music. But I don’t really paint - that’s not the correct term I would use for what I do. I pour more than I paint - I spin, I pour and do other kinds of things. But I think it’s an escape to another kind of reality that I really can relate to. It’s very calming. Just like the music.

I may look like I’m going crazy up there - but, inside, I’m very calm and very centered. Because it’s a very zen thing to me. It’s a meditation. The music is a meditation. The art form - the visual - is a meditation. It allows me to figure life out in a different kind of way. Everybody is looking for meaning. And that’s how I find meaning in my life that tells me where I am, why I am, what I am and where I’m going. Besides my family - my wife and kids - my art is the most important thing in my life. Without it, my spirit would die. It would not be there. I can’t imagine not being involved in artistic expression. But, of course, I’m an artist!

So, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. And it comes out in the work. It’s very passionate. You bring all of your passion to the easel so to speak. And you sit back and, sometimes, you’re in awe of it. And then, sometimes, it just doesn’t make it. Just like musical performance. You try, try, try - but it just won’t happen. And then you move onto the next one - the next show or the next song.

These things are songs, these paintings. That’s how I look at them. They’re musical - very musical.

I’d like to ask you a question…

Ryan: Shoot…

Hart : What did you think of the sound and lights when you saw it at the Sphere? What was your take? What was your takeaway?

Ryan : I was just amazed that it was so all-encompassing. It really hits all of the senses. It was like sensory overload at times. It’s fascinating. Because, in those first moments, those first 10 or 20 minutes, you almost can’t help but look everywhere but the stage, right? You’re looking at the ceiling. You’re looking at what’s happening around you. You’re looking at people’s reactions. So, I was just fascinated by how all-encompassing that felt. And I loved that. I can’t wait to go back.

Hart : Yeah! That’s good to hear. Something did happen that was phenomenal. During my “Space” segment, some people were lying on the floor looking up. Remember, the seats are vibrating. So, I’m able to vibrate conductive - bone conduction. Now, I’m going down to 17, 16, 15 cycles - which is very low. Almost to a place where sound becomes feeling - you no longer hear it, you feel it. And that’s a region where most people do not go. But that’s my destination point. That’s where I head and that’s what I’m after - that kind of vibratory stimuli.

Ryan : If I’m recalling this correctly, we were told for U2 that that technology existed to vibrate the seats like that - but that it wasn’t being used yet.

Hart : No. They don’t go down that low.

Ryan : I remember thinking, “I want to experience that .”

Hart : Well, yeah. You got it. They don’t go below 60 cycles, whatever that is. I don’t know even if that engages the seats. That’s not where they’re headed. They’re headed in another direction.

I went to see Bono and U2. I thought it was terrific.

Ryan : I loved it.

Hart : Yeah. But it was a challenge for Bono as well. I spoke with him. And he was prepared for it. To go in there, he was prepared for anything. You have to be ready for the challenge and you have to come up to it. Because it’s nothing like you’ve done before - no matter who you are. It’s quite different.

Normally, you would think playing at a sphere is suicidal. To be honest with you. But they’ve made it into a place where you have to explore it. You have to find your place within the place. It’s different with a PA. Because that’s a different kind of delivery system.

That’s what you have here. You have competing delivery systems: you have tremendous audio/visual displays of power. If the visual doesn’t overpower it, you’re able to find that magic when they come together. I assume that you weren’t looking at the visuals all of the time…

Ryan : Not the whole time!

Hart : Eventually, you found the band! We look pretty small in a place like that! Remember, it’s 360 some odd feet, I think.

Ryan : It’s such a unique place. I’m curious to see where it will push everything else in the future.

Hart : Well, that was a conversation I was having yesterday - actually, a very interesting conversation: that this is the beginning. The beginning of something different. Where it will go? We don’t know.

But, remember, most places are not meant for music. They’re not designed for it. We play stadiums and they’re made for baseball or football. Even arenas. They’re not really acoustically sound. They’re not made for that. But this one is specifically made for audio and visual components.

So, where this will lead? Well, it will lead somewhere. It won’t end here. The Sphere is a very interesting concept.

Ryan : Well, your paintings, unique stagings of the live show - even when it comes to songs people know, you’re still finding new ways to present them. Even this far along, how important is it to continually find new ways like this to push everything forward?

Hart : For me, as long as I can breathe. As long as I have the ability to play. It’s a life thing for me. That’s the journey. I’m 80 years old. I’ve been playing since I was about 5 or 6. You count.

It’s been a long, strange trip as they say! So, I’ll keep going.
