Essay on Goa | My Favourite Place | Short Information

December 14, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Summer holidays are exciting because we get to travel to new places and visit new places of interest. Since summer is at the peak during the summer months, we prefer to visit a cool place every year. Some of the places we have visited in the summer months till now include Darjeeling, Nainital, Ooty, Waynad, Kodaikanal, Matheran etc. All these places can be grouped under hill stations which seem to be relatively cooler compared to hot, dry regions.

This time, since my children were bored of visiting hill stations all this while, we thought they needed a change. So we prepared a list of places that could be visited. One such distinct place though was not ideal for the summers, was Goa.

We had never thought of visiting the place till my daughter came up with the idea of having fun in the beaches. It was a much needed relaxation time required for the whole family.

Goa, the land of beaches where young and old, mix very well, forgetting their age barriers and have fun in the sea. We packed our bags well in advance and left for the beautiful destination – Goa.

Table of Contents

History of the Place

Goa is a place that has much more to offer than what we expect. Goa has a long and vibrant history to boast of. The land is famous for its Portuguese reins as the Portuguese ruled the state for many years. It is believed that the Portuguese ruled this state for almost 450 years.

Their cultural traces could be found even to this day in the land of beaches. But the land was also conquered by Hindu rulers from many dynasties such as the Mauryan dynasty, the Chalukyas and also the likes of Kadambas.

The sea way made it a convenient route and passage for importing horses to the glorious Vijayanagar Empire of Hampi. Shipmen could be seen along the coast lines, waiting for ships to arrive so that they could off-load these horses from the ships and take them to the land of Hampi in Karnataka.

It was only towards the end of 15 th century that Vasco Da Gama, a Portuguese discovered a route to India through Goa and his entry into India marked a big epic history of the Portuguese invaders, then the British into India.

It was a big legacy that they acquired after Vasco DA Gama made entry into the lands of Goa and made it the route to export spices to his country. The sea route became very popular among the Portuguese who came here and settled down. They did not stop at their commercial expansions.

They even went a step ahead and spread their religion from their lands. They began to preach and spread Christianity in Goa. They started speaking in Portuguese; as many as 400 churches can be found in Goa alone.

Portuguese cultures started spreading on the lands of Goa and people slowly drifted away from their native cultures and began accepting Portuguese culture as part of their lives. It was only in December 1961 that Jawaharlal Nehru , the then Prime Minister of India used his military powers to free Goa from the rule of the Portuguese and he was successful in this mission.

The land of Goa is today a multi-cultural place where people from different kinds of religions and practices stay in harmony over different cultural blends.

Goa – The Land Of Beaches

People from all over the country, following different cultures and speaking different religions reside at Goa. They could be vegetarians and non vegetarians as well. Konkani is the official language of the state. But due to the mix in cultures, the state proudly boasts of a multi lingual culture.

People speak Hindi, English, Marathi, Konkani, Urdu and Kannada in the state. There is also population, a small percentage which speaks Portuguese as well. The climate at Goa remains humid for most part of the year as it is very close to the sea.

It has very hot temperatures in May and may go beyond 37 degree Celsius on some particular days. Goa has a very beautiful landscape and it has so many beaches in store to be visited. Some of the popular ones are Calangute Beach, Anjuna Beach, Colava beach, Baga Beach etc.

Beaches offer lot of adventures for persons with an adventurous bent of mind. It is an ideal destination for honeymoon travelers as they can escape to the quite places together and spend lots of time in the sea, admiring nature.

The rising and relapsing waves of the sea offer a picturesque scene of nature at its best. The coconut trees lining the sea coasts at the beaches, the slowly passing streamers at far off distances and the mud arts by children offer every reason to visit the beautiful place.

The beaches remain cooler as the day passes and transcends into evening, drawing huge crowds into the sea. Children especially can be seen playing in the waters and building castles in the mud.

Parent supervision at beaches is a must. There are some beaches where restrictions apply regarding venturing into the sea and security guards can be found at all times, doting the beaches for security purposes.

Sightseeing

Apart from beaches, Goa has other places of interest. It has many beautiful places ranging from waterfalls, forts, churches, temples and bird sanctuaries and national parks.

Prominent places include DudhSagar falls, Fort Aguada, Archaeological museum, naval museum, wax museum, Chapora fort, Basillica of Bom Jesus, Roman Catholic place of worship, Shanta Durga temple, Mangesh temple, island of Divar, the Salim Ali Bird sanctuary, the famous Kali tiger reserve, an ancient 12 the century Hindu temple called Mahadev temple, Harvalem caves and waterfalls, the chorla Ghats.

The nights spent at Casino pride is one to be remembered, many people board cruises to enjoy the night life at Goa and its very memorable and a must visit ride.

Shopping Adventures

Street shopping is very famous in Goa. People also visit many important markets to get a glimpse of the shopping arena at Goa. Flea markets are arranges at many places during the weekends and Goa offers many things to shop for and is both a travelers and shoppers delight.

Most famous markets to visit for shopping include the Mapusa market, Anjuna market where flea markets are organized, Sunday night bazaars etc.

Popular shopping items on any travelers list include textiles, clothing, accessories, brass ware, clay items, decorative items, terracotta jewelleries, spices, carpets, embroidered dresses, pottery, traditional and modern handicrafts, artisan works, homemade pickles, jams, jellies etc.

There are many famous personalities who are from Goa. Popular personalities like Wendell Rodericks, Manohar Parrikar, Remo Fernandez, Damodar Kosambi etc belong to Goa.

Goa is a fun land which is filled with forts and beaches. Our five day trip to Goa concluded by doing some extensive shopping for the entire family. We bought clothing, accessories for the entire family. We also took lighting, pottery items and decorative accessories to deck our house.

The time we spent at Goa is one to cherish. It takes our tensions away and gives us a reason to enjoy and celebrate Goa. The unending fun at beaches, the parasailing experiences, the walk up to the forts, the beautiful and scintillating waterfalls, offer a reason to be a good traveler.

Goa is one of the favorite destinations of all genres of travelers. A must visit place for all kinds of travelers. Goa is also an international tourist destination and liked by local and international people alike. Goa adds beauty to the country’s landscape. It is a favorite tourism destination.

The government is taking extensive steps to promote tourism with safety practices so that no traveler suffers in any way. The tourism department is also responsible to maintain the safety and cleanliness at beaches.

There have been many incidents involving security issues of foreign travelers, hence the government and the police squads work in close networks to monitor tourist places and offer utmost security practices.

India is a land where one can find temples, landscapes, hill stations, heritage sites, monuments, beaches, waterfalls, etc. almost every place has something or the other to offer to travelers.

11 Reasons Why I love Goa and Keep Going Back

by Drifter Planet | Feb 21, 2016 | Personal Stories , Goa , India , Most Popular Blog Posts

11 Reasons Why I LOVE Goa

Goa is perhaps India’s most popular destination. It is known for its massive beaches and a unique culture that’s a mix of Indian and Portuguese.  It is not a city but is a state (or a province) that’s divided in many zones.

I have lost count of the number of times I have visited this glorious state – but I do know that number is in double digits by now. Many ask me why I love Goa and keep revisiting it instead of exploring new places – well, here’s my answer:

1) Goa’s Beaches are Spectacular

Sunset - Morjim Beach, Goa

Sunset – Morjim Beach, Goa

Goa has some of the most spectacular beaches in the world that are perfectly crescent shaped, fringed with palm trees and are dotted with beach huts. Most of these beaches have reddish sand, some have soft white sand, many have strange rocks formations, some have hills all around and a few of them have lagoons too!

With 300 KMs of coastline, Goa offers something for everyone. If you’re visiting Goa, I would suggest you to stay away from the overly crowded Calangute – Baga – Candolim stretch. If you’re visiting, then be sure to read my detailed guide about the beaches of North Goa .

2) Goa has many hidden spots: Secret Lagoons, Lakes, Waterfalls and Coves

Secret Lake in Goa

You think Goa is full? Well, maybe you’re visiting the wrong area! No matter how touristy Goa gets, there are always some hidden spots that can be found if you try hard enough. There are a few secret lakes, lagoons, waterfalls and secluded beaches that no one will tell you about.

There’s ALWAYS something new to discover because Goa is massive. Here’s a travel guide to dudhsagar falls, goa – which you should definitely consider visiting. Wanna know more about the hidden spots? Subscribe!

3) Goan Food is Delicious

Goan Food - Crab Curry

Goan Food – Crab Curry

Goa was once a Portuguese colony and the influences can be found in their food. With a mix of tamarind, coconut, curry leaves, mustard and magic, Goans definitely know how to ROCK their curries. Goa’s Xacuti, Balchao, Cafreal, Vindaloo are perhaps some of the best curries in India.

You can not only find plenty of fresh seafood but also real beef steaks – which are rare in India. Moreover, Goa has some amazing places for European food. Seriously, I have never had a bad meal in Goa!

4) Goa Has Amazing Shacks (Beach Bars and Restaurants)

A Shack in Goa - Arambol Beach

A Shack in Goa – Arambol Beach

Most of the beaches in Goa are dotted with sea facing shacks that are typically run by local Goan families. It’s easy to spend almost an entire day sitting on beach beds of these shacks gazing at the sea. Almost all of these shacks have a beach bar where you can order from a range of International drinks to Goa’s local brews. Many of these shacks offer affordable accommodation options.

Some of the most famous shacks are Curlies in Anjuna, Pink Orange in Ashwem, Morning Star in Arambol, Om Shanti in Patnem and Blue Corner in Benaulim. In my opinion, Goa has some of the best beach bars and shacks in the world.

5) King’s Beer – Goa’s Local Brew

my favourite tourist place goa essay

King’s beer is Goa’s local brew – it is amazing and is only available here and in Mumbai.  For INR 35 (close to half a dollar) for a pint, it is also cheaper than the other beers.

Somehow, inflation has had hardly any effect on the price of this beer because the first time I had it in 2004, it was for INR 25. When I’m in Goa, I don’t ever look at any other beer except King’s.  It is packaged in a cute little dark bottle that’s short and fat.

2022 Edit: King’s beer is still in Goa with a new packaging and name. The name is “Königs”, which means King’s in German.

6) Goa’s Underground Party Scene is the Best

Parties in Goa in Why I love Goa by DrifterPlanet.com

A Psytrance Party in Hilltop Goa – Why I love Goa

When it comes to parties, nothing can beat the old school psychedelic trance gatherings of Goa.

Back in the 1960s, many hippies arrived in Goa and it became their permanent residence. It led to the birth of “Goa Trance” genre which further ushered in a different style of parties with a strong presence of visual aspect that utilizes UV paint and decoration that now happen all over the world.

In Goa, some of the best parties are underground and invitations are only by word of mouth for the “insiders”. If you’re lucky enough to find one, you will remember the experience for the rest of your life!  Alternatively, you can also visit Hilltop in Vagator for a kickass party or Palolem for a silent headphone party.

7) Local Goans are Happy and Beautiful

A Local Goan Family back in 2004

A Local Goan Family back in 2004

Goans are very peaceful, easygoing and laidback. Usually smiling, they are extremely polite and trustworthy. Apart from the local Konkani people, many other people from all over the world call Goa their home.

First the hippies and then the backpackers – many visited this glorious destination and did not leave. For many, the hippie trail ended here and it became their permanent residence. They have collectively formed a culture that is a blend of East and West.

8) Goa is Truly a Tropical Paradise

Free spice plantation tour at Dudhsagar Plantation Goa

Spice Plantation at Dudhsagar Plantation Goa

Most people just end up visiting Goa’s beaches but the true beauty lies in the forest area.

Goa’s landscape is hilly and it mostly covered with trees. There are banana trees, papaya trees, jackfruit trees, rice plantation, spice plantation and a lot of other interesting flora.

If you want to explore Goa beyond the beaches, then I’d like to tell you that Goa has a lot of waterfalls. I don’t want to mention most of them here but one of the most popular and beautiful one is Dudhsagar Waterfall.

9) Goa is Safe and Peaceful

Goan Roads by Drifter Planet

Goa is safe for women!

While India is famous for its many scams, things are completely different in Goa. Apart from a few isolated incidents, communal violence and crimes against women have been nearly non-existent and Goa is regarded as one of the most peaceful states in India.

Back in 2009 on my solo visit to Goa, I dropped my wallet on the road and I got it back within one hour without anything missing. Once I left my smart phone in a shop in Arambol and I got it back. Goa is one of those rare places in India where I feel safe walking alone on the street at night wearing shorts.

10) Stunning Architecture – Old Churches, Abandoned Forts and Portuguese Houses

A Church in Old Goa

A Church in Old Goa

I love admiring architectural wonders and Goa is a treat for my eyes with its many Churches, Forts and old school Portuguese houses. Some of the most famous churches are the Basilica of Bom Jesus (1605), Se Cathedral (1619), Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (1541) or in fact, Old Goa is full of them where a lot of churches were built during Portuguese rule. Some of my favorite forts are Chapora Fort, Fort Aguada and Cabo de Rama – they all are fun to explore and overlook beaches.

11) Goa is awesome for Shopping

Arambol's Shopping Street

Arambol’s Shopping Street

Here’s the thing – I don’t like to spend money. I usually avoid shopping because I travel on a low budget.  I have many things in my room that are more than a decade old and some of them are from Goa. It’s difficult to resist the urge to buy colorful clothes, lamps, tribal jewelry, UV bedsheets, elf dresses from Goa’s street shops.

Some of the most famous places for shopping in Goa are Anjuna flea market, Arambol’s street shops and Arpora’s night bazaar. FYI – I have lived in Goa for a few months and visited many markets. I also wrote a detailed post about the flea markets in Goa .

Due to Portuguese rule which isolated it from the rest of India for 451 years, Goa is different from the rest of India. In my opinion, there is no place like Goa in the entire world. If you have visited Goa, then do leave a comment to let me know what you LOVE about this place.

Essay on My Trip

In this Essay on my trip, we has discussed about my trip to Goa.

Let us go ahead and read this article to get detailed information about my trip to Goa essay.

My Trip Essay to Goa:

During the last summer holidays, I planned to go out for a trip with my six companions.

Our school had a holiday for 2 months, so we wanted to plan a journey, in which we should enjoy and our knowledge should also increase.

Location Selection:

We had to choose a place for a trip where a good hotel can be easily accommodated on reasonable rent and where the beautiful scenery can be seen.

But it is difficult to find a good hotel as well as natural beauty in one place.

Apart from this, we were not even willing to bear the cost of a very expensive hotel hence the choice of location was a difficult problem.

We considered several places but could not reach a decision, after discussing with many friends and relatives, finally one of our relatives suggested us to go to Goa.

Goa is a good healthy place, the climate here is very good, there are some good hotels and their prices are also affordable.

There is also an abundance of natural beauty, knowing the appropriate place from all points of view, so we decided to go to Goa. Also, read my trip essay conclusion.

How to travel:

We decided to travel by train, we boarded an express train at 5 in the morning.

The vehicle caught speed in a short time, flurries of cold air on the way made us very happy.

We started seeing the view outside the train, we saw very beautiful natural beauty.

The fields were seen convincing on both sides of the track.

In a short time a large pasture appeared, many animals were grazing the grass.

Hearing the loud roar of our train, some of the animals ran away with fearful hooves and raised their tails.

The shepherds started calling them, but they ran in the opposite direction of the train.

After a while, we saw a big tube well, there was an engine in it and water was falling from a very thick stream. Also, read my trip conclusion.

Drains were made for irrigation, through which water was going into the fields.

We had dinner in the afternoon, after eating the food, we started feeling a bit tired and we fell asleep.

When we woke up, the evening had ended, it was started getting dark.

Outside we saw farmers going towards the house, animals were also returning from the grasslands.

It became very dark in a short time.

So we closed the windows and ordered the railway men for the evening meal, our food arrived in a while and we slept again.

Reaching Goa- My Trip Essay:

The next day we reached Goa, we had to remove our woolen clothes at the station itself.

We stayed at Modern Hindu Hotel, it was built on a large romantic spot.

The shadow of nature was scattered all around, opening our rooms in the hotel, we had food and after resting for some time, went out for a few time.

Natural views of Goa:

We traveled to Goa for some distance, it was a beautiful place.

Houses were built beyond the beach, we inquired about the nearby sights from the residents there.

Here tourism places were far away, so we fixed a taxi for the next day at night and returned to the hotel.

The next morning, the taxi arrived at the hotel.

First we went to see the famous campel garden of Goa, the garden was built in several levels at the bottom, and from a distance it looked very beautiful and attractive.

The garden had a wonderful blend of natural beauty and human art, there were many types of trees of fruits and flowers. Also, read my trip conclusion.

In many places, shapes of animals and birds were made after beautiful cutting, which was made on sight.

After that we went to see a famous Basilica of Bom Jesus church some distance away, it was a unique piece of natural art.

After this we saw the Aguada Fort, the palace was built on sight.

Many ancient artefacts were stored in the palace.

SUMMER VACATION ESSAY | MY SCHOOL ESSAY | IMPORTANCE OF NEWSPAPER

Conclusion for My Trip Essay:

Thus on the third day from Goa , we started the return journey.

We continued to discuss the beauty of Goa all the way and returned home with pleasant memories of the same.

Short Paragraph on My Trip to Goa (400 Words)

my favourite tourist place goa essay

Here is your short paragraph on My Trip to Goa !

Last vacation we planned a trip to Goa. It was a great trip and we all enjoyed the trip thoroughly. Goa is a wonderful place and we had been longing to be there for some time.

Finally we made it happen and we started the journey by bus to Goa on a bright and beautiful day

I was so excited that during my journey to Goa , I could not sleep. I kept asking my Mom every now and then by when we would reach GOA. Finally my mom got angry and shouted at me. When we started entering GOA, I saw fishermen throwing their nets into the sea to catch the fish. It was a beautiful sight and I have seen that only in movies.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Going further down the road, the road was full of greenery with coconut trees, jackfruit trees and many other trees and the roads were all so clean. It was so nice to feel the morning and was not at all noisy.

During the day, it is almost silent and not very noisy, but as the sun sets, Life begins in GOA. It gets active and people come out and start having fun. There are small restaurants which have been made in the interiors of many small houses.

The beach is the best attraction of Goa. It was so much fun to be at the beach. We played in the waters, made sand castles, ran around, went for a swim and enjoyed the whole day. Going back we were so tired , but went on laughing at the great adventures at the sea. Next day we thought we would go around Goa.

We went to Panjim and on the way saw the ship decks being lighted so beautifully that one could not just take their eye from it. The restaurants are just fantastic there and the food is great. There are live bands in the restaurants and we enjoyed our meal in the presence of music. We then visited some of the churches in Goa. They have beautifully built churches there are it is a beauty to be there and pray.

We really enjoyed our trip and on the way back, bought some of the Goan street items , just for fun. The journey was great and the experience was wonderful. I would love to go to GOA once again, when given a chance.

A favourite Place is one where a person enjoys spending the majority of their time. Each person has a different favourite place. The only place we can go to forget all of our sorrow. It depends on what they like and are interested in. Here are a few sample essays on my favourite place.

100 Words Essay On My Favourite Place

Each of us has a favourite location where we can find fulfilment and happiness. I also have a favourite place where I enjoy spending the majority of my time. My house is where I like to be. I enjoy spending my time there. It has a lovely and tranquil environment. My house is in the centre of a city. I live with my mother, father, two brothers, and two sisters. We each have our room. There isn't a place more significant than my house, in my opinion. I enjoy being at home. It energises me and lifts my spirits. Whenever I'm at home, I enjoy myself.

My Favourite Place Essay

200 Words Essay On My Favourite Place

Everybody has a favourite location, such as a garden, a house, a playground, etc. My hometown, though, is my favourite place, and I love being in my home.

My Hometown

My town is my entire world. I was raised there. I have a lot of lovely and endearing memories of it. I used to play there with my friends and cousins during my early years. In my community, everyone is cordial. My town has many trees. I can only think of one spot where I enjoy spending time - my town. My visits home provide me with much delight and satisfaction. In my town, practically every amenity is available, and the roads and bridges are macadamized.

Additionally, the community has access to medical facilities. The local government also provides excellent maintenance for the public transportation system. In my community, emphasis is placed primarily on education. Everyone wants access to high-quality education, regardless of gender. The neighbourhood helps out with the needs of poor kids. I hold this place- My Town, in high regard.

Everyone has a distinct favourite location. It is in keeping with their preferences and interests. Similarly, my favourite location reflects my interests, and I love being at my favourite place.

500 Words Essay On My Favourite Place

My grandmother's house in my village has often been one of my favourite places to be. Everyone has always held a special place in their hearts for their grandmother's home. We spent numerous summers with our granny when we were younger. Her home appeared to stand out from the rest in some way that made it special.

Enjoyment time

I enjoy playing outside while picking fresh fruits from the trees and eating freshly prepared vegetables. Frequently, I help my grandmother sow seeds in the garden. There are several reasons why I value this place so highly. There is something incredibly unique about the house. I feel at ease and relaxed here.

Why I Love My Grandmother’s House

First of all, the atmosphere at my grandmother’s house is distinctly different. I am at peace here. There is no noise or pollution because it is in a village. Additionally, there are no traffic jams here. I always wake early so that I can go for a walk and take in some fresh air. My body and mind are both revitalised by the fresh air. My grandmother makes me a delicious breakfast. In the evening, my whole family gathers to share our life stories as our grandfather makes tea.

My grandparents' home also has a small garden with grass that is a vibrant green colour. In the garden, there are swings as well. There, we also like playing entertaining games with our relatives, including water fights. We frequently spend the evenings sitting on the roof, looking up at the stars.

Holidays At Grandmother’s House

Over the holidays, there is always a lot of laughing and playing games at grandma’s house. Uncle's loud, recognisable giggle may be heard for miles. My aunt never misses an opportunity to comment on his laughter. The living room of our grandmother's home is where she regularly can be seen sitting and gazing out the window, close to the front entrance. She sits at this location to read the newspaper daily and sip on her old-fashioned steaming black coffee.

She can lose hours watching the birds fly to the feeder next to the window in her living room. Most birds have names that our grandmother is familiar with and recognises. She never skips a chance to observe the squirrels. Everything blossoms, and there are fresh flowers everywhere throughout the summer. In our town, the natural beauty is at an all-time high, and it's impossible to keep your eyes off the stunning surroundings. A pond is located behind the house. My cousins and I go fishing in the pond.

The village's residents lead simple, healthy lives. People care for one another and are always available. They make a lot of effort to maintain the facility's cleanliness because they care about it. We always look forward to our summer vacation so we may visit Grandma and Grandpa. Anyone who has met them will attest to their humility. All of this adds up to why I love my grandparents house and why it is my favourite place.
