Key Points To Remember When Writing An Essay On Cats For Lower Primary Classes

Cats & their appearance, 10 lines on ‘my pet cat’ in english, ‘my pet cat’ essay in 100 words for kids, short essay on cats for kids, fun facts about cats that kids should know, what your will child learn from the essay.

Cats are cute, furry, and adorable pets, loved by most people. Their serious expressions, carefree attitude, and absolutely silly antics make them a favourite among people who love cats. Having lived with human beings for thousands of years, it is still sometimes unclear if we domesticated them or if they have domesticated us! In this article, we will go over what makes cats a favourite and show you how to write essays on cats for classes 1, 2 and 3 in short and long forms.

Here are some essential tips on how to write an essay on cats:

  • If you plan to write about your own pet cat in the essay exclusively, start from their adoption and continue the essay writing about their behaviour.
  • When writing a generic essay about cats, talk about their habits, food preferences, instincts, and general nature.
  • Long-form essays should have introductory and concluding sentences/paragraphs.
  • A good essay can balance information about your cat’s behaviour and nature in general.

If your little one could use some help describing cats, this section about the appearance of cats will come in handy.

The common cat is a four-legged mammal with furry skin, soft paws, attentive ears, and a heightened sense of alertness. They are born with different colours such as black, white, grey, orange and sometimes a mix of all the three. The fur on cats is to protect them from cold. They have soft, padded paws that dampen noise when they are hunting or moving about. They also have long whiskers around their nose to sense the movement of prey and a rough tongue to scrape the flesh off of bones. Cats are carnivores that hunt little animals in the wild. An adult cat can weigh between 3.5 to 4.5 kilos.

10-line essays on a cat are easy for children in classes 1 and 2. Here is an example:

  • I have a pet cat, and his name is fluffy.
  • Fluffy is a male cat with a long furry tail.
  • He is white with orange stripes on different parts of his body.
  • Fluffy is a good boy and behaves well all the time.
  • He poops in his litter box and eats up all his food without making a mess.
  • Sometimes he becomes very playful and runs all around the house.
  • Fluffy follows me wherever I go and sleeps below my desk all the time.
  • He also loves to relax and laze around everywhere in the house.
  • Fluffy loves spending time cuddling with us and makes soft purring sounds.
  • I love my pet cat, Fluffy, and I know he loves me a lot, too.

Here is an example of a short paragraph on my pet cat:

My pet cat is an orange tabby named Lizzy. We raised Lizzy since she was a 12-week-old kitten. She is nine months old now and loves to play all the time. She likes to chase her toy ball around the house. She also chews on all my stuff and pulls the curtains and sheets. When she is not playing, she wants to eat and sleep. I always look for Lizzy the first thing in the morning when I wake up, and I pet her goodnight before going to sleep.

A short essay is a good exercise to learn how to establish flow and narrative. Here is an example of an essay on cats in 200 words:

We have a pet cat in the house called Momo. He is a stray we adopted from our street when he was three months old. Momo has been in our family for two years now. He stays inside the house and lazes around all day but is very energetic at night. That’s when he loves to run around and often topples things in the house.

Having a pet cat is a huge responsibility. Since letting them outside exposes them to diseases and other dangers, you need to provide them with everything inside the house. Cats need fresh and healthy food, a litterbox to poop in, and a good bed to sleep on. They also have to be vaccinated against a number of diseases to ensure their safety.

Cats are carnivores by nature. Momo loves to eat chicken, fish, dry cat food, and wet cat food. Sometimes he also brings the small animals that he hunts from the garden inside the house. Everybody in the family loves Momo, and he loves us back even more. Although they appear calm, cats have a different way of showing affection to their owners. I know Momo loves me when he slowly blinks his eyes when I call out for him or curls up next to my feet when I am studying.

Essay on Cats For Kids - 10 Lines, Short and Long Essay

A long descriptive essay on my pet cat requires children to plan for what they wish to include in the essay and build a good narrative. Here is an example of an essay for Class-3:

My pet cat, Rocket, is a Maine Coon cat. As a breed that is popular for its size and fury looks, Rocket is as impressive as any pet can get! He is white, black, and grey in colour and quite a graceful looking feline by his appearance. He sits majestically and walks majestically but sleeps in silly postures. He loves spending his time with me or outside looking at birds sitting in the backyard.

I’ve always wanted to have a pet cat as they are furry and cute animals. Maine Coon is my favourite cat breed as I think they are the most majestic looking cats in the world. These cats live in cold climates and higher latitudes where it snows and the temperature regularly falls below freezing levels. Because their natural habitat is freezing cold, they naturally have thick fur. Therefore, we have to take extra precautions to make sure Rocket doesn’t get too hot in the lower latitudes that we live in. He gets his own air-conditioned room where the temperature is always maintained cool. It has his bed and play area and a window that leads him to the backyard.

During hot summer days, Rocket spends most of his time indoors, sleeping in my room. We also give him a haircut to make him feel more comfortable. When it is colder outside, he likes to venture out into the garden and hunt little animals. Even though we give him all the best foods, his hunting instincts remain the same as all other cats. He often hunts little birds, pigeons, chipmunks, and any other unfortunate critters that wander into the garden.

Rocket also loves to be pet and cuddled. He likes it when I scratch his back with a comb. When he is not the apex predator in the garden, he is a silly cat playing with random things in the house. I cannot wish for a better pet than Rocket!

Some cool facts about cats for children:

  • Cats are excellent jumpers – they can jump six times their height.
  • Cats always land on their feet when they fall.
  • Cats spend 13 to 16 hours sleeping during the day.
  • One year of a cat’s life is approximately equal to 15 years of human life.
  • Cats show affection to their owners by slowly opening and closing their eyes.

By studying the examples given above and writing an essay on ‘My Pet Animal’ or ‘My Pet Cat’, your child can learn how to express their observation and knowledge about cats in short and long essays. These examples will equip your little one with ideas on how to present information about their pet cat sequentially for their own composition.

1. Why Should You Get a Pet Cat?

Cats are incredibly adorable pets that are smart enough to take care of themselves. They are also loving and affectionate pets that are very clean and need little grooming or maintenance.

2. What Are Cats’ Eating Habits?

Cats are carnivores; hence they naturally eat meat. Domesticated cats will also eat packaged cat food, dairy products, meat, fish, and other non-vegetarian products.

3. What Are Some Regular Life Habits Of Cats

Domesticated cats spend most of their time sleeping or playing at home. They would also want to go outside the house to explore and even mate if they are not neutered.

Cats are amazing creatures that are adored all over the world. If you are writing an essay about your cat, include plenty of information about their behaviours that other people can relate to. Keep the essay as cute and fun as your own pet!

Essay on My Favourite Animal Cat

Students are often asked to write an essay on My Favourite Animal Cat in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on My Favourite Animal Cat

Introduction.

Cats are my favourite animals for many reasons. They are small, furry, and very friendly.

Cats have soft fur, sharp claws, and sparkling eyes. They come in different colours and sizes.

Cats are known for their playful and independent nature. They love to chase toys and enjoy a good nap.

Why I Love Cats

I love cats because they are comforting and fun to be around. Their purring sound makes me happy.

In conclusion, cats are wonderful pets. They are loving, playful, and make great companions.

250 Words Essay on My Favourite Animal Cat

Cats, with their enchanting allure and playful antics, are my favourite animals. Their elegant grace and independent nature make them captivating companions, offering a unique blend of serenity and excitement.

Symbol of Independence

Cats are often seen as symbols of independence. Unlike dogs, who are dependent on their owners for affection and attention, cats are self-reliant creatures. They can take care of themselves, hunt for their food, and do not require constant attention. This quality of self-sufficiency resonates with me, as it mirrors the human journey towards individuality and self-reliance.

Emotional Support

Cats offer emotional support in ways that are often overlooked. Their purring is known to have a calming effect, reducing stress and anxiety. The companionship of a cat is subtle yet profound, their quiet presence providing comfort in solitude. They are not just pets but therapists in their own right.

Environmental Impact

Cats, being obligate carnivores, have a smaller ecological footprint compared to dogs. They require less space and their diet is less resource-intensive, making them a more sustainable choice for a pet in the current era of environmental consciousness.

In conclusion, cats, with their independence, emotional support capabilities, and lesser environmental impact, make for an ideal pet. They are not just animals but companions, therapists, and symbols of a sustainable lifestyle. They are a testament to the beauty of nature, a source of joy and comfort, and hence, my favourite animal.

500 Words Essay on My Favourite Animal Cat

Cats, with their enchanting grace and captivating personalities, have always held a special place in my heart. They are not just animals, but companions that bring a unique kind of comfort and joy to their owners. This essay explores my affection for cats and their fascinating characteristics that make them my favourite animal.

The Aesthetics of Cats

Cats are undeniably beautiful creatures. Their sleek bodies, expressive eyes, and soft fur make them aesthetically pleasing. Each breed of cat has its unique charm, from the fluffy Persian cats to the hairless Sphinx, each with its distinctive appeal. Their elegant movements and poised postures, akin to a ballet dancer, are a sight to behold.

The Personality of Cats

Cats possess a complex and intriguing personality. They are often perceived as aloof and independent, but this is just one facet of their multifaceted character. Cats are also affectionate and playful, exhibiting a wide range of emotions. They are known for their curiosity, often leading them to explore their surroundings in a way that is both entertaining and endearing. Their independence doesn’t imply a lack of affection, but rather a respect for personal space, a trait that resonates with many introverted individuals.

Cats as Companions

Cats make excellent companions. Their independent nature means they are low-maintenance and can be left alone for longer periods than dogs. Yet, they are also capable of forming deep bonds with their owners. The soft purring of a cat curled up on your lap is one of the most comforting sounds, and their playful antics can bring a smile to your face even on the gloomiest of days.

The Symbolism of Cats

Cats have been a part of human culture and mythology for thousands of years. In ancient Egypt, they were revered and considered sacred animals, embodying grace and poise. In Japanese folklore, the ‘Maneki-neko’ or ‘beckoning cat’ is a common talisman believed to bring good luck and fortune. These cultural representations add another layer of intrigue to these captivating creatures.

In conclusion, my admiration for cats stems from their physical beauty, complex personalities, companionship qualities, and cultural significance. They are creatures that embody a perfect blend of independence and affection, mystery and familiarity. Owning a cat is not merely about having a pet; it’s about sharing your space with a creature that has its own distinct personality and charm. It’s about appreciating the subtle ways in which they express their affection and understanding their unique communication methods. Cats, with their captivating charm and enigmatic personalities, are indeed my favourite animals.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Most of the time he stays at home playing with the ball we got him. But at times he also goes in the backyard for a stroll. He loves watching the birds from the window in my room. I have always wanted a pet cat and when my dad brought home Stuart, I was the happiest. He came home curdled like a white snowball. The cats of his breed live in cold climates, hence we have to ensure that our house is airconditioned properly, especially at night. Now, because they are habitual to such cold climates, the fur of Stuart is amazingly fluffy. We also have to take extra precautions so that Stuart doesn’t feel too much heat.

Cats require a lot of attention and care. We take care of Stuart’s meals like we would of a baby. We feed him twice a day and make sure that he gets all the necessary nutrients through his meals. We also bathe him twice a week. Another important thing that we made sure of is that he got all his vaccinations done on time. And periodically we visit the vet to make sure that he is healthy. My Favorite Pet Essay:

‘ve always been an animal lover, but there’s one pet that holds a special place in my heart – my furry little best friend, Max. He may not be the most exotic or unique pet out there, but to me, he’s one of a kind.

Max is a small brown and white mixed breed dog with floppy ears and big, soulful eyes. He may not have the majestic appearance of a lion or the rareness of a hedgehog, but what he lacks in looks, he more than makes up for in personality.

I remember the day I found Max at the shelter like it was yesterday. His tail wagged excitedly as I approached his cage, and when I knelt down to pet him, he licked my face with eager affection. I knew right then and there that he was the one for me.

Since that day, Max has been my faithful companion through thick and thin. Whether I’m happy or sad, he’s always by my side, ready to offer a cuddle or a lick on the cheek. His goofy antics never fail to make me laugh and his unconditional love is a constant source of comfort.

As cliché as it may sound, Max has truly become a member of my family. He’s more than just a pet; he’s my confidant, my therapist, and my partner in crime. I couldn’t imagine life without him.

I may have had other pets before Max, but there will never be another like him. He’s my favorite pet, and I know that no matter how many years pass, he will always hold a special place in my heart. So here’s to you, Max – thank you for being the best companion a person could ask for.

My Pet Cat Story:

My pet cat’s name is Whiskers. He’s a handsome ginger tomcat with bright green eyes and soft, fluffy fur. I found him as a stray kitten wandering in my neighborhood one day. He was all alone, meowing pitifully and looking lost.

I couldn’t resist picking him up and taking him home with me. From that moment on, Whiskers became a part of my family.

As a kitten, Whiskers was very playful and mischievous. He loved to pounce on anything that moved and chase after toy mice. I had to baby-proof my house to keep him out of trouble!

But as he grew older, Whiskers mellowed down and became more affectionate. He would curl up on my lap and purr contently, enjoying a good cuddle session. He also loved to follow me around the house, always curious about what I was doing.

Whiskers is now a fully grown cat, but he’s still full of personality. He has his own preferences when it comes to food and toys, and he loves to make his presence known by meowing loudly when he wants attention.

Having Whiskers as a pet has taught me so much about responsibility and unconditional love. He may just be a cat, but to me, he’s my best friend and companion.

I can’t imagine my life without Whiskers by my side. He brings so much joy and laughter into my home, and I am grateful to have him as a part of my family. I hope our bond will continue to grow stronger with each passing day.

If you’re considering getting a pet cat, just remember that they may be small in size but they have big personalities and even bigger hearts. They truly make the best companions and can bring so much love into your life. So go ahead and give a shelter cat a forever home, just like I did with Whiskers. Trust me, you won’t regret it

I have a white coloured, soft and furry pet cat. It is a Himalayan Cat. These cats are known for their soft furry coats and that is what attracted me too.

Since I am a single child, my parents decided to get me a pet. They asked me if I wanted a dog or a cat and I instantly chose the latter. My father took me to a pet shop and my heart went pounding for this cute little white kitten with grey ears. We brought it home and since then it has been my best friend. I have named it Rosie.

Rosie is there with us since the last two years and has become a part of our family. I love playing with it. I play with it in the house and also take it out in the park every evening. I bathe it twice a month with the help of my mother. Bathing sessions are super fun for me as well as Rosie. My mother makes it a point to comb Rosie’s furry coat every day. We have a separate set of combs, brushes, shampoo and soaps for Rosie. We also take good care of her diet. We bring home special cat food for her. I love my pet cat.

My Pet Cat Essay 2 (300 words)

Introduction.

My pet cat, Jersy is a Maine Coon Cat. It is dark brown and black in colour. She is quite active and playful. She spends most of her time with me and is therefore more affectionate towards me than any of my other family member.

Why we brought Home a Pet Cat?

Many of my friends and neighbours had pets at their home and I also longed to have one. I often told my mother to get home a pup or a kitten and she always dismissed my wish saying she doesn’t have time to look after it.

When my brother went to the hostel for higher studies, I felt quite lonely. My father went to the office and my mother was engrossed in the household tasks most of the times. I did not have anyone to play and felt the need of having a pet all the more. I again requested my parents to get me a pet. Looking at how lonely I had grown ever since my brother had gone to the hostel, they decided to fulfil my wish. I was overjoyed at hearing this. It is then that Jersy came into our lives. It has been with us for over four years now.

My Pet Cat is Playful Yet Disciplined

Jersy is extremely fond of playing while at the same time it is also quite well-behaved. Many cats run around the house breaking things. However, Jersy makes sure she does not cause any such damage. She also takes instructions. My mother serves her lunch at sharp every day. Jersy goes and sits near her feeder around the same time every day. She finishes her food and makes sure it does not spill around.

Jersy has won the heart of all my family members. She awaits my return from the school every afternoon and is delighted to see me back. I am also eager to meet her. We love and enjoy each other’s company.

My Pet Cat Essay 3 (400 words)

I have a pet Siamese cat. I got it as a present from my mother on my 7 th birthday. I had always loved cats dearly and often expressed my wish to pet one. My mother gave me a pleasant surprise by fulfilling it. I have named it Misty. It is cream in colour with grey shade around its ears. It has a fine furry coat that renders beauty to it.

Feeding Misty

Misty is a foodie. It loves eating fish. My mother especially goes to the market twice a week to get fresh fish for my adorable cat. Misty does not only eat raw fish but also relishes fried fish that we often prepare for ourselves. Buying cat food is a fun activity for me. There are many options to choose from and I always accompany my parents to the supermarket to choose different packs of cat food.

Misty loves cat food as much as it loves fish. It especially loves cat food when we mix it with milk. It also loves gulping bowls of plain milk. Milk is something that it can never say no to.

Besides, fish, cat food and milk, Misty also has an eye on what we eat and often demands the same in her own unique way. I love sharing my food with it. Bread dipped in milk and chapatti with butter are some of the other things it relishes. My mother is very particular about giving it food at the right time.

Cleanliness and Hygiene

Siamese cats look beautiful however it takes a bit of an effort to maintain their look. Me and my mother conduct Misty’s bathing session once a month and it is complete fun. My mother also makes sure she combs its coat twice a week to remove dead hair and ensure her hygiene. We also brush her teeth once a week. In winters, we cover it with a coat to protect it from cold.

I love playing with Misty but we mostly play indoors only. When I take it out, I mostly carry it in my arms to protect it from the dirt and dust outside that may cause allergy.

Misty gelled along well almost immediately with me as well as my family members. We had set up a small cat house for it at a cosy corner in our house but it sneaked into my bed the very first day it came home and since then it sleeps besides me. I love spending time with Misty. We are extremely fond of each other.

I have a Persian cat as a pet. We call it Molly. I had seen one such cat at my neighbour’s place and just loved the way it looked. I also wanted to pet one. I told my father about the same and he agreed to bring one home. Molly is 5 years old and has been with us since it was just 2 months. We are all extremely fond of her and she loves us all too. • It has long hair that are super soft and a delight to touch. However, its furry hair requires a lot of grooming. It needs to be combed gently every day.
  • It has a small, round face and a snub nose.
  • Its cheeks are chubby and it has small rounded ears.
  • Its eyes are big and full of innocence.
  • It is generally quiet however it also enjoys playing.
  • More than anything it loves sitting in my lap.

Molly has a Pleasant Disposition

Persian cats are considered to be the most beautiful cats in the world and Molly is no exception. It is a treat for the eyes. Her behaviour is as good as her looks. She is very warm and friendly. She did not take long to mingle with me and my family members. She does not detest the entry of anyone in the home. However, she is often quite indifferent towards our guests. She creeps into a quiet corner in our house when some unfamiliar person arrives.

My mother never wanted to keep a cat as a pet however she is glad that we brought Molly home. She has grown quite fond of this tiny little creature over the time just like my father and grandparents. She takes care of all her needs.

Molly’s Grooming and Feeding

Molly has long white hair which make her look beautiful but we also require taking care of it. We make sure we bathe her once a week to keep her hair clean and tidy. I love shopping for Molly’s bathing products. My mother conducts her bathing sessions and I also love helping her with it. Molly remains quiet during this time and lets us clean it thoroughly.

We comb its hair everyday to keep them smooth. It is done with the help of a special wide-tooth comb. Molly loves it when my mother runs comb through her hair. It sits in her lap to get it done.

Molly loves eating fish. We give her fish twice a week. On other days, my mother gives her cat food. We have fixed her lunch and dinner time and serve her food at the same time every day. Molly also loves having milk. She finishes her bowl of milk very quickly and often demands for more.

Molly is an inseparable part of our family. I love spending time with it. We also take her along on outings. She is well-behaved and thus it doesn’t seem difficult to take her along on holidays.

My Pet Cat Essay 5 (600 words)

I have a black coloured cat as a pet. We call it Brenda. It has short hair and a glossy coat. It is five years old and has been with us ever since it was born. Loves having milk and bread. We treat it with fish occasionally and it simply loves its taste. Brenda is very playful and loving.

How Brenda (my pet cat) Became a Part of My Life?

I had always been a big admirer of cats. I always thought that I would pet a couple of cats when I grow old. However, I had never planned of keeping one as a pet in my childhood years. Keeping Brenda as a pet was not planned.

My mother always kept a bowl of water in the garden to quench the thirst of birds and animals during summers. Besides a number of sparrows and pigeons, a few cats also came and drank water from that bowl quite often. One of these cats gave birth to four kittens under our cooler that was kept in the garden. The cat as well as kittens stayed at that place for around ten days. We placed a bowl of milk to feed them every day.

One morning we saw that the cat and three kittens had gone and only a black coloured kitten had been left behind. I kept some food and milk for it. The cat never came back to take its kitten and it continued to live under the cooler. I and my brother soon grew quite fond of it. We decided to pet it. We took permission from my father and got its vaccinations done. My mother allowed it inside the house after the vaccinations were done and it became a part of our family.

Special Cat House in My Garden

As much as I had fancied having a cat, I had been equally enthusiastic about setting up a beautiful cat house at my place. I often saw pictures of cat houses on the internet and wished to install one of those at home some day. So, when we decided to keep Brenda, I expressed my wish to bring her a beautiful cat house. I already had a good idea about the different types of cat houses available in the market. I sat with my brother to shortlist the best one for our loving Brenda. It was delivered to our place in two days and we placed it under a shady tree in our garden. Brenda was quite excited to see her new shelter. It loves the colourful house and enjoys sitting inside it for hours.

Black Cats are not Ominous

Many people consider black cats are ominous. People usually do not like to pet black cats. This is not only because these are considered ominous but also because these cats don’t look as beautiful as the white and fawn ones. My mother was also quite sceptic about keeping Brenda initially. However, I convinced her and she agreed.

It has been five years that Brenda has been with us and we have not faced any uncanny experience as we should have going by the myths. This is a proof that black cats are not ominous. We must not disregard them because of the myths that have been around for centuries. Black cats need our love and affection as much as any other cats.

Brenda came into our life by chance but is now an inseparable part of our family. I and my brother are especially fond of it. Brenda eagerly awaits our return from the school every day and also looks forward to our holidays. It seems quite delighted and cheerful during our holidays. We love her company too.

Essay On My Pet Cat

  • Post category: Essay
  • Reading time: 4 mins read

Animals and birds are the friends of mankind. We get milk from animals like cows , buffalo, goats,s, and sheep. Dogs guard our fields and our houses. Pets like parrots, pigeons, rabbits, and cats give us joy and happiness. We like to keep pets as per one’s needs and likings. All my friends have some of the other pets.

I also have a pet cat . She is a cute little bundle of white and black color. Her eyes are blue and shiny. We all call her Rani. She comes running to me whenever I call her. Rani is purely vegetarian. Every day I feed her bread, milk, and biscuits. I. bathe her regularly with soap and lots of water.

She is very obedient. I take her to the garden every evening. I play with her. We run, we jump. She expresses her happiness by shaking her tail and by making various sounds. Rani wanders freely inside the house. But she never spoils the eatables. She becomes conscious whenever she rings, then she runs towards the main door to welcome us.

Sometimes she catches a mouse and then runs out of the house. Usually, the dog is an enemy of a cat. But Rani is so brave that she threatens the dogs. During winter she goes to the terrace and licks herself with her tongue. During summer she rests either Sien below the sofa or the bed. I like Rani very much. She is very calm and quiet. I usually take her with me whenever I am going out. I miss her very much if I do not see her for a day or two.

Essay 1 (300 words).

My pet cat is a Jersey Maine Coon cat. It is available in dark brown and black colours. He is very active and playful. She spends most of her time with me and hence she is more dear to me than any other member of my family.

Why did we get a pet cat ?

Many of my friends and neighbors had pets in their house and I wanted a pet too. I often asked my mother to bring a puppy or a kitten, but she always rejected my wish, saying she didn’t have time to look after it.

I felt very lonely when my brother went to the hostel for higher studies. My father used to go to the office and my mother was busy with household chores most of the time. I didn’t have any friends to play with and then felt the need to have a pet. I again requested my parents to get me a pet. Seeing that I was feeling lonely ever since my brother moved to the hostel, he decided to fulfill my wish. I was overjoyed to hear this. Then Jersey came into our lives. Jersey has been with us for more than four years.

My pet cat is playful but also disciplined

Jersey is very fond of playing while at the same time it is very well behaved. Many cats vandalize homes but Jersey makes sure that he does not cause any such damage. She also obeys orders. My mother makes him lunch every day. Jersey goes and sits around my mom at one point every day. She finishes her food and makes sure not to spread it around.

Jersey has won the hearts of all his family members. She waits for my return from school every afternoon and is happy to see me back. I look forward to meeting him too. We love and enjoy each other.

Essay 2 (400 words)

I have a pet Siamese cat. I got this cat as a gift from my mother on my 7th birthday. I have always loved cats and have wanted pets from the beginning. My mother gave me a pleasant surprise by fulfilling this wish. I named it Misty. The color around its ears is gray and the body color is cream. It has soft hairs all over its body which give it beauty.

feeding misty

Misty loves to eat. He loves to eat fish. My mom specifically goes to the market twice a week and brings fresh fish for my cat Misty. Misty not only eats raw fish but also eats fried fish which we often cook for ourselves. Buying cat food is a fun activity for me. There are many food choices to choose from and I am always at the supermarket with my parents ready to choose from different cat food.

Misty loves cat food as much as she loves fish. She especially likes cat food when we mix it with milk. He also likes to drink plain milk. Milk is something she can never live without.

Apart from fish, cat food and milk, Misty also cares about what we eat and often demands the same food in her own unique way. I like to share my food with Misty. Roti dipped in milk and chapati with butter and other things it likes. My mother takes great care of feeding it at the right time.

cleanliness and hygiene

Siamese cats look very beautiful but it takes a lot of effort to maintain their beauty. Me and my mom bathe Misty once a month and the whole thing is so funny. My mother definitely takes care that she combs Misty’s hair twice a week to ensure her cleanliness and remove the bad hairs. We brush Misty’s teeth once a week. In winter we wear a jacket to protect him from the cold.

I like to play with Misty but we mostly play indoors. When I take it out I carry it in my hands to protect it from dirt and dust that cause allergies.

Misty gets along well with me as well as my family members. We had made a small cozy cat house in one corner of our house for this but it broke into my bed the very first day and since then Misty sleeps with me. I love spending time with Misty. we love each other very much.

Especially she likes me a lot.

  • Along with its long hair, it is very soft, which is a lot of pleasure to touch. Although its lovely hair requires a lot of care. It needs to be combed gently every day.
  • Its face is small and round and the nose is flat.
  • Its cheeks are thick and ears are small and round.
  • Its eyes are big and full of innocence.
  • It is generally quiet but it is very happy while playing.
  • Most of all I like to sit on my lap.

It’s a pleasure to see Molly

Persian cats are considered to be the most beautiful cats in the world and no one can replace Molly. As good as it looks, its behavior is also good. He is very warm and friendly. He didn’t take much time to mingle with me and my family members. She does not dislike any strangers coming into the house although she gets very sad towards our guests. Whenever a stranger comes, she sits quietly in a corner of our house.

My mother never wanted to have a cat as a pet but now she is happy that we brought Molly home. With the passage of time, mother has started loving this little creature very much like my father and grandparents. She takes care of all his needs.

Molly’s grooming and food

Molly has long hair which helps her to look beautiful but we need to take care of it too. We make sure that we give her a bath once a week to keep her hair clean. I love shopping for Molly’s bath products. My mother calls me to bathe her and I also enjoy helping my mother. Molly keeps calm while bathing and also helps us in getting our cleaning done.

Essay 4 (600 words)

I have a black cat as a pet. We call it Brenda. Its hair is short and shiny. She is five years old and has been living with us since her birth. Milk and bread taste great on it. We also feed it fish occasionally and it loves the taste of fish. Brenda is very playful and sweet.

How did Brenda (my pet cat) become a part of my life ?

I have always been a big fan of cats. I always thought that when I got old I would have cats. Although I never planned to have a cat as a pet in my early childhood years. It was not my plan to have Brenda as a pet.

My mother always kept a bowl of water in the garden to quench the thirst of birds and animals in summer. Apart from many birds and pigeons, some cats also come who drink water from that bowl. One of these frequent cats gave birth to four kittens under our cooler, which was kept in the garden. The cat and the kittens stayed in that place for about 10 days. We kept a bowl of milk for them to drink every day.

One morning we saw that the cat and the three kittens were gone and only one black child was left behind. I had kept some food and milk for this. The cat didn’t come back to pick up the baby and the baby started staying under the cooler. Me and my brother loved this baby and we decided to raise it. We took permission from our father and got it vaccinated. After being vaccinated, my mother allowed it to come indoors and it became a part of our family.

Cat’s special house in my garden

As much as I envisioned a cat, I was more than enthusiastic about setting up a beautiful cat house at my home. I often used to see pictures of cat houses on the internet and wished to make one of those at home someday. So when we decided to keep Brenda I expressed my desire to bring her a beautiful little house.

I already had a good idea about the different types of cat houses available in the market. I sat down with my brother and shortlisted nice homes for our lovely Brenda. It took two days for this house to arrive at our house and we put it under a shady tree in our garden. Brenda was excited to see her new home. She loves her colorful home and sits inside it for hours.

black cat is not unlucky

Many people think that black cats are unlucky. People generally do not like black cats. This is not only because they are considered inauspicious, but it is also because these cats do not look as beautiful as white cats. My mother was initially quite skeptical about keeping Brenda. However, after I convinced her, she agreed.

Brenda has been with us for over five years and we haven’t had the casual experience that people often told us about. This is also a proof that black cats are not unlucky. We should not neglect cats because of the myths that have been living around us for centuries. Black cats need our love and affection just as much as any other cat.

Brenda has luckily come into our lives but now she has become an inseparable part of our family. Me and my brother are particularly fond of it. Brenda eagerly awaits our return from school every day and looks forward to our holidays as well. Brenda seems to be quite happy and cheerful during our holidays. We love him so much.

My Pet Cat Essay 5 (600 words)

I have a black coloured cat as a pet. We call it Brenda. It has short hair and a glossy coat. It is five years old and has been with us ever since it was born. It loves having milk and bread.

Essay on Cat.

Whenever I see a cat I feel very happy. When I see a cat nearby me I rush to her and pick her and start pampering her. The hair on the cat's body are always in beautiful colors and they are clean and very soft I like them very much.

Cat has a very beautiful eye with those eyes she can easily view things clearly even in a dark environment. Like eyes her ears are always standing and are always alert, a cat can detect the very finest movement just by her ears. The cat can smell things correctly with its nose, she knows about things just by smelling them without actually looking at them.

The body of the cat is small in size but it is very beautiful and I like its color very much. Cats always like to be clean, so they always keep their body clean, with the help of their tongue. The nails of every cat are very dangerous and if a cat gets angry then no one can get out of her claw strength.

I have a cat as my pet animal and her name is 'Mani'. She a very beautiful cat. Everyone in our house loves her and pampers her. Because of Mani, not a single mouse enters our home, and If a mouse enters in then Mani doesn't spare him.

My cat Mani can jump very high very easily and see can walk in high places without any fear. And she always walks in pride. These similar qualities are seen in Tigers so cats are said to be ancestors of them.

Because of all of these qualities I like my pet cat Mani very much. And so cats are my favorite animal.

The Cat Who Saved Me

I will never owe another cat the debt that I owe her.

I have had cats since I was a boy, and all of them were wonderful, but one of them left a mark on my life forever.

First, here are three new stories from The Atlantic :

  • “What happened to Stormy Daniels is not salacious,” Quinta Jurecic writes.

  • The problem with America’s protest feedback loop

A Special Presence

Almost 15 years ago, I was in bad shape. I was divorced, broke, drinking too much, and living in a dated walk-up next to a noisy bar. (It was only minutes from my young daughter, it had a nice view of the bay here in Newport, and I could afford it.) The local veterinary hospital was a few doors down; they always kept one or two adoptable animals in the window. One day, a gorgeous black cat, with a little white tuxedo patch and big gold-green eyes, showed up in a small cage. I stared at her for a while. She stared back patiently.

I wasn’t taking very good care of myself at that moment, so I decided I couldn’t take care of a cat. I walked on. For weeks, the cat sat there. For weeks, we stared at each other. One day, as I was deep in my cups, I took a walk with a friend and co-worker who also happened to be my next-door neighbor. “You look at that damn cat every day,” he said. “Just go in and get it.”

The cat was called “RC” and she was a stray, but her preexisting spaying and good health showed that she’d once had a home. Now she was the queen of the animal clinic: Because of her gentle temperament, the staff would let her out of the cage after hours, and she would sit on their desks while they did their paperwork.

I picked her up. She looked at me as if to say: Yeah, I recognize you. You’re the doofus who stared at me for weeks. I signed the papers and took her home. She was fluffy and black-haired, so I decided I would name her after Carla Tortelli from the show Cheers ; thus, she became Carla T. Nichols. She explored the apartment quietly for a day or two, and then, one afternoon, I found her on my bed, stretched out on her back, paws up, purring. Yep , she was saying. This will do.

I was still deeply depressed, but every night, Carla would come and flake out over my keyboard as I struggled to work. That’s enough of that , she seemed to say. And then we would go into the living room, where I would sit in a chair and Carla would sit on the armrest. (We’ve now both seen almost every episode of Law & Order .) Slowly, she added routine to my life, but mostly, we had lots of hours of doing nothing—the quiet time that can feel sort of desolate if you’re alone, but like healing if you have the right company.

Soon, I started to see daylight. I met a woman named Lynn. I laid off the booze. I got help of various kinds.

Lynn started to come to the apartment more often, but Carla gave her a full examination before bestowing approval: That cat was not going to let some newcomer waltz in and wreck the careful feline therapy she’d been providing. Finally, Carla climbed on the pillows one morning and curled up around Lynn’s head. Okay , she was saying. Lynn can stay.

Carla curls up around Lynn's head while she's in bed

My grade-schooler daughter was the other regular visitor, and Carla immediately decided that she was hers as well as mine. This was a cat who clearly had experience with children, and showed a kind of shepherding instinct whenever kids were around. She’d stay with them and circle them; she’d let them pull her tail and clumsily pat her head and other indignities most cats won’t tolerate. She loved kids, and she especially seemed to love mine.

Lynn and I soon realized that this was no ordinary cat. I’ve had smart cats, and some who were lovable but not very bright. Carla was not a prodigy, but she had a unique presence that even strangers on social media could see when I posted clips or pictures. I can attribute this only to an emotional intelligence, the bond that some animals have with people that lets them suss out who’s who and how we might be feeling. If you were sad, or sick, she was there. If the human vibes were happy, you could hear her purr from a room away.

Eventually, Lynn and I bloomed from friendship into love. Slowly, I put my life back in order, and Carla clearly thought that me getting on my feet was mostly her doing. It wasn’t that simple, but I will say this: A man blessed with a concerned doctor, a dedicated counselor, a wise priest, a few good friends, and a great love in his life can overcome much. But a man with all of those and a marvelous cat can really cover a lot of distance.

I finally bought a house, and Lynn and I married. Just as she had done with the apartment, Carla inspected the new digs and said: I approve. Instantly, it was her house.

For more than a decade, it was the three of us, and Carla became Lynn’s friend even more than mine. Much like a dog, Carla would trot around with Lynn during the day, and come if called. She would even wag her tail. (She would find this canine comparison insulting, of course.) When I would finally get up—I’m a night owl—Lynn would bring over a cappuccino and Carla would invariably accompany her, waiting for me to scoop up some foam on my finger for her to lick. Then my wife and her pal would go back to their day.

Carla had a remarkable sense of time and schedule. When I would teach in Boston, she’d sit in the window at the time she knew I’d return. She would show up at the same time every night to escort Lynn to bed; later, and always at almost the exact same time, she would meow at me until I carried her around on my shoulder while locking up the house. (Unlike some cats, she liked hugs. She would have sat on my shoulder all day if I’d let her.)

And although she had a bowl of food available all day, we shared our human dinner with her in a daily ritual. Carla would rouse from her afternoon nap and find us almost at the moment the clock struck five, with a look that asked: What are we having today? Is it steak? I like steak. Or chicken? Chicken’s good too.

Then came the day she literally saved my life—and Lynn’s.

My house was built in 1956, back before the local authorities in my small town enforced bothersome things such as building codes and safety regulations. Some genius had decided to balance the fireplace with wooden shims (which were hidden behind bricks). Over the decades, they burned away and dropped hot embers on floor beams.

The day after Christmas, six years ago, Carla jumped on our heads in bed. Wake up wake up wake up.

We figured she was just being testy about breakfast. Lynn headed downstairs—but, strangely, Carla stayed in the bedroom. A moment later, Lynn was back: “I smell smoke.” I grumbled and went two floors down to the basement, where I was startled to find a small lick of flame shooting from a ceiling panel. I grabbed our kitchen extinguisher and sprayed it; smoke gushed from the ceiling. I was minutes from being dead. I ran up to the kitchen just as the smoke alarms finally tripped on. We called 911.

Lynn dashed back upstairs looking for Carla, and there she was, calmly sitting on the bed. I told you to wake up. I wasn’t kidding. They stayed safe in the car while I ran around in the winter cold, my panic growing as I watched the fire department battle a fire that destroyed almost a quarter of my home.

The fire marshal later told us that if Carla hadn’t bought us that extra time, the fire—which hadn’t immediately tripped the smoke alarms, because it was caught between the floor and ceiling—would have broken through and engulfed the house (and us). He told us that cats are usually casualties of house fires because they hide out of fear and can’t be found in time. Carla, however, alerted us and then waited for us to come get her.

While the house was being repaired, we all spent a month in a hotel. Carla would tell you that it was the best time of her life: her people, a bed, food, and a litter box—all in the same two rooms? Kitty nirvana.

My daughter grew up, and Carla started sleeping in her room, as some cats will do once the kids they love go away. Grandchildren arrived; Carla adopted them. Our schedules changed as we all got older, and Carla began checking on me in the mornings if I wasn’t awake by a certain time. She also developed some separation anxiety: If one of us left the house or traveled, Carla would stick to the other one like a furry hunk of superglue. I don’t like this. I want to be with you both. I liked that hotel thing; can we do that again?

And then came the warning signs. Carla started to lose a lot of weight. She developed thyroid and kidney issues. The light began to go out of her eyes. The night before I took her back to the same small office where I’d found her, I made a fire—she’d become a big fan of those as her arthritis worsened—and she climbed in my lap. She purred and bumped her head into my face, and then she went and sat quietly nearby as we watched television, just like the old days. It felt like a goodbye. I think she knew.

The next day, our vet confirmed that there was little more we could do for Carla without tormenting her. I held her on my shoulder one last time as they gave her the first shot. Lynn and I stroked her head and whispered to her during the second shot, and our tears soaked her fur. And then she was gone.

We haven’t yet gotten used to a house without Carla in it. Like many who’ve lost a pet, we both still think we see her out of the corner of our eye. I still automatically look into my daughter’s room to see if she’s there. We still expect her at dinner, and Lynn still waits for her to come and say: Time for bed, let’s go. Eventually, we’ll welcome new animals into our home, and I’m sure we will love them. But Carla was a little friend unlike any I’d ever had—and I doubt I will ever owe another cat the debt that I owe her.

Against Sunscreen Absolutism

By Rowan Jacobsen

Australia is a country of abundant sunshine, but the skin of most Australians is better adapted to gloomy England than the beaches of Brisbane … A 1980s ad campaign advised Australians to “Slip, Slop, Slap”—if you had to go out in the sun, slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, and slap on a hat. The only safe amount of sun was none at all. Then, in 2023, a consortium of Australian public-health groups did something surprising: It issued new advice that takes careful account, for the first time, of the sun’s positive contributions … “Completely avoiding sun exposure is not optimal for health,” read the groups’ position statement , which extensively cites a growing body of research. Yes, UV rays cause skin cancer, but for some, too much shade can be just as harmful as too much sun.

How Long Should You Play with Your Cat Every Day?

In This Article

For cats, playtime is more than just a fun activity—it is an important part of their overall well-being. To stay healthy and happy, cats need regular exercise and mental stimulation .

Providing our cats with playtime is a responsibility all pet parents have. But just how much playtime do our cats need every day?

Why Playing With Your Cat Is Important

Cats need play for their physical and mental health, and routine playtime benefits them in many different ways.

Playtime allows cats to fulfill their instinctual need to stalk, chase, and pounce.

By playing regularly, you can keep their muscles toned and prevent obesity , which can lead to a variety of health problems.

Indoor-only cats especially benefit from playtime because it stimulates their mind and prevents boredom .

Playtime provides an outlet for pent-up energy, which can reduce stress and anxiety .

Regular play reduces the risk of behavior problems such as aggression and destructive chewing .

In addition to creating positive associations and building trust, playtime strengthens the bond between cats and their pet parents .

How Long Should You Play with Your Cat?

In general, you should play with your cat for two or three 10- to 15-minute play sessions a day, depending on their age and energy level. A few short bursts of playtime throughout the day are better than one long session of playtime. When play sessions last too long, cats lose interest.

Factors such as age, breed, and personality can influence a cat's playtime needs. Compared to adult cats, kittens have boundless energy and require more frequent and intense play sessions. Although their energy levels may decrease as they age, cats still require regular playtime to stay active.

In general, you should play with your cat for two or three 10- to 15-minute play sessions a day, depending on their age and energy level.

Playtime needs can also vary by breed. Cat breeds with high energy levels, such as Bengals or Abyssinians , may need more playtime than breeds with a more laid-back temperament, such as Persians or Ragdolls .

A cat’s playtime needs are also affected by their personalities. While some cats love solo play, others enjoy interactive play with their humans.

The Best Toys for Playing with Your Cat

Playtime with the right toys will keep your cat entertained and engaged. Wand toys and feather teasers make excellent interactive play toys. Your cat's natural instincts can be engaged with these toys by simulating hunting scenarios.

When you're not available for play, you can keep your cat entertained with puzzle toys or treat-dispensing toys .

A simple object such as a catnip-filled toy or a crinkly ball can also entertain cats for hours.

Signs That Your Cat is Getting Enough Playtime (or Not)

A cat that receives enough playtime will be content and satisfied, and destructive behavior and signs of stress or anxiety will be less likely to occur. Alternatively, cats that aren’t receiving enough playtime may display signs of boredom or frustration. They may become more vocal , groom excessively , or exhibit destructive behaviors. Your cat may need more playtime and mental stimulation if you notice any of these signs.
