A favourite Place is one where a person enjoys spending the majority of their time. Each person has a different favourite place. The only place we can go to forget all of our sorrow. It depends on what they like and are interested in. Here are a few sample essays on my favourite place.

100 Words Essay On My Favourite Place

Each of us has a favourite location where we can find fulfilment and happiness. I also have a favourite place where I enjoy spending the majority of my time. My house is where I like to be. I enjoy spending my time there. It has a lovely and tranquil environment. My house is in the centre of a city. I live with my mother, father, two brothers, and two sisters. We each have our room. There isn't a place more significant than my house, in my opinion. I enjoy being at home. It energises me and lifts my spirits. Whenever I'm at home, I enjoy myself.

My Favourite Place Essay

200 Words Essay On My Favourite Place

Everybody has a favourite location, such as a garden, a house, a playground, etc. My hometown, though, is my favourite place, and I love being in my home.

My Hometown

My town is my entire world. I was raised there. I have a lot of lovely and endearing memories of it. I used to play there with my friends and cousins during my early years. In my community, everyone is cordial. My town has many trees. I can only think of one spot where I enjoy spending time - my town. My visits home provide me with much delight and satisfaction. In my town, practically every amenity is available, and the roads and bridges are macadamized.

Additionally, the community has access to medical facilities. The local government also provides excellent maintenance for the public transportation system. In my community, emphasis is placed primarily on education. Everyone wants access to high-quality education, regardless of gender. The neighbourhood helps out with the needs of poor kids. I hold this place- My Town, in high regard.

Everyone has a distinct favourite location. It is in keeping with their preferences and interests. Similarly, my favourite location reflects my interests, and I love being at my favourite place.

500 Words Essay On My Favourite Place

My grandmother's house in my village has often been one of my favourite places to be. Everyone has always held a special place in their hearts for their grandmother's home. We spent numerous summers with our granny when we were younger. Her home appeared to stand out from the rest in some way that made it special.

Enjoyment time

I enjoy playing outside while picking fresh fruits from the trees and eating freshly prepared vegetables. Frequently, I help my grandmother sow seeds in the garden. There are several reasons why I value this place so highly. There is something incredibly unique about the house. I feel at ease and relaxed here.

Why I Love My Grandmother’s House

First of all, the atmosphere at my grandmother’s house is distinctly different. I am at peace here. There is no noise or pollution because it is in a village. Additionally, there are no traffic jams here. I always wake early so that I can go for a walk and take in some fresh air. My body and mind are both revitalised by the fresh air. My grandmother makes me a delicious breakfast. In the evening, my whole family gathers to share our life stories as our grandfather makes tea.

My grandparents' home also has a small garden with grass that is a vibrant green colour. In the garden, there are swings as well. There, we also like playing entertaining games with our relatives, including water fights. We frequently spend the evenings sitting on the roof, looking up at the stars.

Holidays At Grandmother’s House

Over the holidays, there is always a lot of laughing and playing games at grandma’s house. Uncle's loud, recognisable giggle may be heard for miles. My aunt never misses an opportunity to comment on his laughter. The living room of our grandmother's home is where she regularly can be seen sitting and gazing out the window, close to the front entrance. She sits at this location to read the newspaper daily and sip on her old-fashioned steaming black coffee.

She can lose hours watching the birds fly to the feeder next to the window in her living room. Most birds have names that our grandmother is familiar with and recognises. She never skips a chance to observe the squirrels. Everything blossoms, and there are fresh flowers everywhere throughout the summer. In our town, the natural beauty is at an all-time high, and it's impossible to keep your eyes off the stunning surroundings. A pond is located behind the house. My cousins and I go fishing in the pond.

The village's residents lead simple, healthy lives. People care for one another and are always available. They make a lot of effort to maintain the facility's cleanliness because they care about it. We always look forward to our summer vacation so we may visit Grandma and Grandpa. Anyone who has met them will attest to their humility. All of this adds up to why I love my grandparents house and why it is my favourite place.

My favorite place essay ,Every human being in the world has a favorite place to go where his captivity feels comfortable and safe. A place to go in times of grief. A place where he sheds his concerns or a place that may remind you of beautiful memories and you love sitting in it to remember those moments. All this will be found here in My favorite place essay .

My favorite place essay

Every man in the world has a favorite place to go.  Where he captive his mind, feels comfortable and safe. Place to go in times of sadness. A place to throw concerns away or a place that may remind you of beautiful memories and you love sitting in it reminiscences those moments. Also it may be a place to change the mood.

Sea is that horizon that takes you to another world, where you reminiscences your beautiful memories, which gives you the psychological comfort and happiness with its breaking waves.

The sea is one of the most beautiful blessings for man, which shows the greatness of the Creator.  Words can’t describe the sea beauty and charm, which is an inspiration to many poets and writers. Poems and thoughts that talked about sea are uncountable.

The beach is my favorite place. Sit down to relax and think. I also go to it to practice many activities and games.

I join my friends in playing treasure hunt in the sand, which is based on hiding various objects down the sand and writing instructions on paper cards to help others reach them.

I build sand in the form of castles, palaces and compete with my friends to choose the ideal building design.

I go with my children to the beach. I make a kite and fly it in the sky. It’s fun if you take your children with you.

When I go with my friends and relatives, I arrange a barbecue on the sea with friends or relatives and enjoy the climate while listening to music and watching the scenery.

One of the most fun activities when I’m with my friends on the beach is playing the XO game on sand. Besides playing water war or fighting water balloons, they are fun games that you can also play in the sea.

Other activity I do on the beach with my friends is the volleyball game. In particular, you do not need to be professional to practice it!

The sea has a great impact on human soul. It is a source of hope and renewed activity.

Everyone I know likes to go to the beach as a natural place to have fun and rest.

My Favourite place essay

My favorite place is the beach, where I practice my hobby of fishing, which I love very much. I feel so happy from the start of the day that I start getting ready to go out for fishing and contemplate the beauty of nature.

I find it wonderful to have a happy and fun time at the same time. I can enjoy the beach and see the water and sunset. Also take advantage of the sun’s rays and get vitamin D. And also hunting and bringing out the energy inside me.

I liked these activities very much. I think I loved it because my father shared with me, and now my younger brother comes with me to learn from me. All this helps me to continue my hobby.

I often think of trying other ways to have fun like riding a fishing boat and spending time on it. I might do that in the future.

Essay on my Favourite place

My favorite place is on stage, I love acting very much. Therefore, a few years ago, I participated in several training workshops to teach acting. I am in the school theater group.

The happiest time of my life I find when we present a work of art and the audience comes to watch the show. Everything is done perfectly, and I hear the laughter and applause of the masses.

The audience’s interaction with the actor is like food for the soul. In these moments, he becomes more focused and energetic and strives to give the best.

Then comes the time for artistic criticism that comes from family, friends, or our followers. I care a lot about hearing other people’s opinions.

I would love to hear some compliments on my work from time to time. But I would be happy if the whole work and the staff are commended.

The success of the work also represents your success. Therefore, the stage represents a lot to me, and it is my favorite place, which I like to be in on a permanent basis.

Essay on my favourite place

My favorite place is the garden, I like to visit the garden very much with my family. We can practice many sports activities with the participation of my brothers or parents.

We very much enjoy the air and the vast scenic views. I really like the smell of roses in the air. Especially in the spring. This is the perfect time that I love to spend time in the garden.

My brothers and I like to start a game of soccer when we arrive. After that we sit for a while to rest and have some drinks and food. Seeing the vast green spaces around me helps me improve my appetite.

Then my dad joins us for a tug-of-war challenge. We laugh a lot when we beat him and there is great fun and joy when he shares this game with us.

After that, my brothers and I go back to ride some rides in the par and enjoy it. And when it gets dark we usually sit down and play some of the games we bring with us. This place is my favorite place that I  enjoy spending a lot of time in.

My room has become my favorite place, and reading has become my favorite hobby. I enjoy reading books in general, and historical books in particular, because historical books educate me and provide me with important information. To make my room pleasant, I put some beautiful flowers on my desk, and my mother also I made a suggestion that they liked, which is to summarize the book that I have finished reading, and read it to the rest of the family, because in the evening

This idea encouraged my brothers to read as well, and thus there was competition between us and we invested our time in something useful, and I also played with my brother in the garden of the house, because exercising is ve

My Favourite place essay in English

My favorite place is at my aunt’s home. I  have no brothers. I have a father’s sister whom I love very much and she loves me and takes care of me a lot since my mother’s death.

My mother passed away a few years ago, and since then my aunt has been taking care of me and helping me and my father.

I love playing with her children and picnicking in the parks. I love the way she receives me, as she loves kissing me a lot, calling me my dear son.

I love my cousins too, they love to play with me and involve me in many activities. The first person who taught me to ride a bike was my cousin. He helped me a lot and was patient with me until I could learn it. We go out a lot to spend some time cycling, but I like sitting at home with all the family members.

This may not be a favorite place for many people but this is my favorite place where I find the company that I love and spend some happy time with them.

My favorite place descriptive essay

My name is (..). We are a family of 5 people. I have two siblings younger than me. I am (..) years old. My favorite place that I like to spend my time in is the sea.

I have been fishing with my father since the age of seven. I liked very much to go out in the boat in the early morning, to prepare for fishing.

The area we live in contains different types of fish I love tuna a lot, it is one of the strongest types of fish we have. To catch it we must work hard  and struggle to keep the fish hanging in our strings.

The hard work does not end until the fish is on the boat. Only then we can rest and laugh a little. I love this place so much and would like to spend my whole life there.

Essay on my Favourite place in 200 words

My favorite place that I enjoy spending a lot of time in is The Animal Care Association. I love animals of all kinds, I love helping them find shelter, or offering them some simple customized foods.

A year and a half ago I was able to join The Animal Care Association. I got to know them through a friend of mine. He told me about them after he saw me care a lot about animals and I love taking care of them and helping them.

Therefore, this association aroused my curiosity as soon as he talked to me about. It is a non-governmental association, which includes a very large number of people.

We volunteer a lot when calls come to the association to go and help animals, especially small ones that have lost their father and mother, or an animal that was crossing the road and had an accident. Such things I love to do.

Three months ago there was a little stray puppy on the side of the road, a person called the association and told them. We went to see what would happen, I was so worried about crossing the road and having an accident.

I was so happy when we found him on the side of the road and he didn’t cross. I cared about him a lot and played with him for a while to calm him down.

I suggested to the supervisor that we walk around the residential areas to see if we can find his parents. And indeed, after a little searching, we found his  owner was looking for him.

The little puppy lost his identification collar, which made him unidentified. We are all so happy to him to his owner again.

My favorite place essay in English

My favorite place is the library. I love reading books and attending discussions that take place in  the library’s theater in my city.

I would very much like to become a writer in the future. I loved writing a lot after knowing that writing in the past was just symbols, and they were called hieroglyphs.

This was the beginning through which I admired the contemporary reading and writing of our time. After knowing how writing originated and using many images to express speech, writing has now become easier in all countries of the world.

I find great happiness in writing because it expresses my personality and I can express my imagination. I also find strong accuracy in transmitting news or information. Also, every written thing is taken more seriously than the oral style.

So I find the library is my favorite place. I love to read literature and contemporary history and learn a lot so that I have a lot of information to help me achieve my dream in the future.

My favorite place that I am very happy to be in is the soccer field. This is the best place in the world that I love to be in, especially when the fans of the two teams come to watch the match, and hear the shouts of encouragement in my name and the names of my friends.

I would very much like to talk about a favorite place to relax, which helps me a lot in getting rid of many stressful thoughts that occupy my mind and make me psychologically exhausted.

This place is the beach where fishing, I really like to go fishing when I am tired of thinking a lot. I feel when I am fishing and looking at the water that I am completely numb and no longer think of anything to occupy my mind.

I find myself caring only what I do, and I would be very happy if I could catch a fish, it changes my mood and makes me more optimistic and happy. I take advantage of the beach near us, and go to release the negative energy inside me so that I can return to study and activities that I do with all the vitality and energy.

My favorite place to live essay

I would much rather live in the middle of forests and rivers than city life. Whenever I go with my family for camping, or spend some times and occasions with my family and relatives in rural areas far from the city and its hustle and bustle, I find a wonderful inner feeling, which I can describe to peace and comfort.

After a few days, I find myself feeling energetic. I also notice that I sleep better, without frequent worry throughout the night, beside enjoying the smell that spreads everywhere, emanating from the trees, roses and green life surrounding us from everywhere.

I enjoy very much fishing in the lakes and relaxing from time to time. This is the life I want to spend my life in, away from the fast life, stress and anxiety, and live in fear.

My favourite natural place essay

I find the true magic in everything from God’s creation, and no matter how much man has developed and built architectural buildings and established entertainment clubs and others that do not match the beauty of nature and the landscapes that are God’s creation.

I always find myself happier and more comfortable in the vast areas, which contain mountains and green areas, and seeing the city from the outside, and not from the inside, I feel great pressure and lack of focus when I am in the city. As soon as I go out and see the city from outside, I feel like I have put a heavy weight on my shoulders.

Therefore, my favorite place that I like to spend time in is the natural areas outside the city, which contain large areas and are not crowded.

My favorite place in the world essay

My favorite place in the whole world is the beach. There is no specific beach I prefer to be in, what I like about the beach is the smell of the sea, seeing the sea and the water in front of me moving and forming waves.

I feel calm and psychologically comfortable when I listen to the sounds of the waves around me as I look and breathe deeply on the shore.

I don’t much prefer to swim, I do it from time to time, but I enjoy walking on the beach without shoes on my feet, walking around feeling the sand on my toes, and letting the water wet my feet, this is the most beautiful feeling I love and prefer.

Describe your favorite place essay

My favorite place is camping in the desert, seeing the yellow sand surrounding me from every side, moving away from technology and any modern gadgets, returning to barbecue using traditional methods, sleeping in tents, and talking to each other automatically and naturally without any electronic devices.

I feel comfortable and calm in such places, and I feel that my mind is taking a break from everything around me that requires focus and attention.

Being in such places helps me to feel my surroundings, and I see many things that I used to neglect to see despite my presence because I was busy communicating with my friends on the phone, or playing while I was wandering outside.

Therefore, I find that this is my favorite place that I would like to spend great times in and return to from time to time.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on My Favorite Place

My happy beach.

My favorite place is the beach by my grandma’s house. It’s peaceful, with soft sand and gentle waves. The sun feels warm, and the water is cool. I love building sandcastles and finding seashells.

Fun with Family

When I visit, my family and I play games. We laugh a lot and enjoy picnics. The beach brings us together. It’s where I feel the happiest.

Beautiful Sunsets

In the evening, the sky turns orange and pink. Watching the sunset, I feel calm. The beach is my favorite spot to relax and dream.

250 Words Essay on My Favorite Place

My favorite place.

Everyone has a spot they love more than any other place. For me, it is the beach near my home. This is not just any beach; it is the one where I have spent countless hours since I was very young.

The Beauty of the Beach

The beach is a ribbon of soft, golden sand where the ocean meets the land. The water is a mix of blue and green, and it sparkles when the sun shines. When I sit on the sand, I feel the gentle breeze and hear the waves. They come to the shore, one after another, like a soft song.

Fun Activities

At the beach, there is so much fun to be had. I can build sandcastles or search for shells and smooth stones. Sometimes, I play with my friends, running and laughing along the water’s edge. We also enjoy flying kites when the wind is just right.

Peaceful Moments

What I love most about the beach is the peace it gives me. Early in the morning, I watch the sunrise, painting the sky with colors like orange and pink. In these quiet moments, I feel happy and calm.

A Place for Everyone

My beach is a place for everyone. Families come to relax, friends come to play, and some people come alone to think. No matter who you are, the beach welcomes you with open arms.

This beach, with its beauty, fun, and peace, is my favorite place in the whole world. It is where I can laugh, play, and be still, all in one day.

500 Words Essay on My Favorite Place

Introduction to my favorite place.

Everyone has a place they hold dear to their heart. It could be a bustling city, a quiet park, or a cozy room. For me, it is the beach. The beach is my favorite place because it is where I feel calm, happy, and free. The sound of waves, the feel of sand under my feet, and the sight of the endless ocean make me feel like I am part of something big and beautiful.

The beach is a feast for the eyes. The blue sky meets the ocean at the horizon, and the sun shines brightly, making the water sparkle. The sand is like a warm, soft blanket that covers the earth. It’s fun to build sandcastles, look for shells, or just sit and watch the sea. Seagulls fly overhead, and sometimes you can see fish jumping out of the water. Every time I am at the beach, I see something new and exciting.

There is so much to do at the beach. I love to swim in the waves and feel the water around me. It’s like playing in the world’s biggest swimming pool! When I’m not in the water, I might play volleyball with friends or fly a kite. The breeze is perfect for kites, and it’s so much fun to see them soar high in the sky. Even a simple walk along the shore is special because I never know what I might find.

Relaxation and Peace

The beach is also a place where I can relax. I can sit on the sand and read a book or just close my eyes and listen to the sounds. The waves crashing on the shore sound like music to me. It’s peaceful and helps me forget about any worries. Sometimes, I even take a nap under the sun, and it’s the best sleep I ever get.

The Magic of Sunsets

One of the best things about the beach is the sunset. The sky turns into amazing colors like orange, pink, and purple. It looks like a painting. Watching the sun go down over the water is a magical moment that I never get tired of. It reminds me that the world is full of beauty and that there are always new things to look forward to.

In conclusion, the beach is my favorite place because it is full of life, beauty, and peace. It’s a place where I can play, relax, and enjoy the wonders of nature. Every visit to the beach leaves me with happy memories and a feeling of joy. It’s a special part of the world that I love very much, and I hope to keep going there for many years to come.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Every kid has a place where they feel comfortable and cherished. But when it comes to essay writing on such topics, kids may feel confused. A few points must be considered when writing an essay on my favourite place for lower primary classes:

  • Try and give your essays a catchy and relevant title.
  • Use clear, basic words and simple language.
  • Use proper punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
  • Get the ideas together and plan a rough draft of the essay before the child starts writing.
  • Try and provide examples of all the incident that makes that place a favourite one for the child.

Writing an essay on this topic exhibits a happy place and time for the child. The following few lines on my favourite place give us a fair idea of how to write an essay for classes 1 and 2.

  • My favourite place is the garden I have at home.
  • It is a beautiful and open place for everyone to relax and help release stress.
  • The garden helps us to preserve the environment and nature by planting fruits, flowers, and vegetables.
  • The garden increases one’s love and compassion for nature while nurturing and growing various plants.
  • Gardens are beautiful to look at and beneficial to one’s health.
  • The garden is home to various animals, birds, squirrels, reptiles, and more.
  • We have constructed a tank to collect rainwater in our garden. This water is then utilised for watering the plants, thus saving water and offering re-circulation of rainwater.
  • Our garden also benefits the oxygen circulation in the house.
  • We also have a small pet home for our pet dog in the garden.
  • I help my parents with the regular upkeep of our garden.

The ability of a child to write an essay about their favourite place is a reliable indicator of their level of understanding of their inner self. Here is an essay on my favourite place in 100 words for children:

My favourite place is the beach. At the beach, I feel joyful and have fun at the same time. I can enjoy the water and the sunset and have lots of fun. Mom says the sun’s rays are good for getting vitamin D while we have some fun on the beach. We can enjoy many fun activities on the beach, like playing beach ball or making a sand castle. My father and brother also join me when I go to the beach with my mother. It is fun to have fun with the family at the beach. We make sand castles and collect a lot of sea shells. I wish to have a fishing boat and make a beach house when I grow up.

A short essay for classes 2 and 3 on my favourite place for kids brings out the very aspect of learning and understanding the place where the child feels free and happy:

The park is one of my favourite places, and I enjoy visiting the park with my family frequently. With my brothers and parents, we play a variety of sports. We savour the fresh air and the beautiful landscapes of the park. The aroma of roses in the air is one of my favourites, particularly in the spring. I love to spend time in the park at this time of year. When we go to the park, my brothers and I play soccer. After that, we take a break by sitting down to relax. After playing in the huge green spaces, we feel hungry and enjoy the dishes we bring along from home. Then we play tug-of-war with our parents. We also sit down and play some games like playing cards and board games.

Amazingly, our children can exhibit a liking for a particular place. An essay for class 3 on my favourite place gives us an insight into the comfortable space of our child. The following descriptive essay is an example of essay writing for kids:

A garden is a place in any home that calms people down and adds beauty to the entire place. The garden at our place is not only beautiful to look at, but it also gives us a chance to cultivate healthy fruits and vegetables and beautiful flowers. We have freshly grown fruits and vegetables that are healthy and safe to consume as they don’t contain any pesticides, insecticides, or artificial colours. Our garden also provides a location for outdoor activities. We play many games and sports to foster our competitive drive and aids in our continual physical activity throughout the day. We have a lot of fun in the garden. The garden also offers mental serenity and a getaway from the routine of life. In the garden, my grandfather practises meditation every morning. Our gardener maintains the garden. He keeps pests at bay, regularly trims the grass, and waters the plants. A tranquil setting like a garden can help us to relax our bodies and minds. Working outdoors is enjoyable and can help you feel refreshed and in control. A garden allows us to be close to nature, where we can hear birds singing joyfully and squirrels jumping from one tree to another. We also have a pet dog and are building a pet house in the garden for him. The pets also feel more energetic in the garden. If someone is passionate about collecting a variety of flowers, they should have a lovely garden where they can grow various flowering plants that will enhance the home’s beauty. We should also practise water conservation. We have constructed a tank in our garden to store rainwater so we can practice rainwater harvesting. I love my favourite place, my garden at home.

When writing an essay about their favourite place, kids can learn a lot about themselves. They can learn what makes them happy and how to employ themselves fruitfully in a fun and calm space.

An essay is frequently used in an academic context as a form of examination to ascertain whether a child has mastered their topic and gauge their expertise on a particular subject. Kids share an emotional connection with their favourite place, and essay writing activity on this topic will make them feel closer to that place.

Tula Kremlin Russia

Tula, Russia: Land of Gingerbread, Samovars and Tolstoy

Slavic Travels Uncategorized

Fall was always my favorite season growing up.

Something about the air turning crisper, the weather getting colder. The leaves turning yellow and brown and orange. And of course Halloween.

It’s that back-to-school weather that any person growing up in the United States loves.

So it was a special treat to be able to experience what fall was like in a different country on a different continent, in a country so unknown in the west. To experience fall in Russia.

Maybe it’s because the season is so short here, but autumn in Russia is truly special.

For starters, it only lasts one month. Fall rolls in during the second half of September and ends in the first half of October. After that winter is already in the air.

But during that brief four-week period, when the country transitions from summer to winter, the Russian countryside explodes into the most beautiful mosaic of red and orange and brown and yellow.

They call it ‘zolotaja osenj’ here, or ‘golden fall.’

It was during this time of year I decided to head outside of Moscow and visit Tula, a city located three hours south of Moscow.

The year was 2017. I was living in Moscow working for a Russian newspaper. October had just arrived.

I was living with another American at the time working in Moscow. We both didn’t want to waste a beautiful crisp sunny autumn day cooped up in Moscow in the apartment.

So we took out a map and looked at what cities nearby we could visit.

We looked North, East, West and finally South. And there she was. Tula.

We’d read a lot of good things about Tula before. How Tula was the birthplace of Leo Tolstoy. That it was where a traditional Russian desert called pryaniki, or ‘gingerbread’ originated.

How for centuries Tula supplied the Russian empire with weapons and arms. And that samovars, what Russians used to make tea and keep water hot, originated from there.

Throw in a Kremlin too, which the city had, and the choice was obvious. We should visit Tula.

And off we went. To enjoy the Russian autumn in the Russian provinces.

How to get to Tula

There are two ways to get to Tula from Moscow. You can take a suburban train, known as elektrichkas, or you can take a regular train. The regular train costs more, and will take you there directly. In this case, Tula is usually the first stop of a longer train ride headed south toward Voronezh and Ukraine.

The other option, which we opted for, was the elektrichka. Elektrichkas are suburban trains that connect surrounding cities to Moscow. The elektrichka takes longer, three hours as opposed to an hour and a half. But the benefit is it is cheap. And you get to see all the smaller cities the train stops in.

When we went, the train was packed full of Russians heading to their dachas for the weekend.

Churches all across the Soviet Union were declared to have ‘no historic value’ and torn down. Churches that were several centuries old. Comunist style administration buildings were put in their place. Monuments to Russian czars were also destroyed and replaced by statues of Lenin.

In the 1980s under Gorbachev an effort was made to restore churches that had been neglected for decades under communism. The domes were put back in place and religious services began once more.

In 2006 the building was finally returned back to the Russian Orthodox Church. Somehow, Tula’s Uspensky Sobor managed to survive 80 years of neglect under Soviet rule. Let’s hope the 21st century treats it better.

It too faced threats of disappearing forever under the communists. In the 1920s the dome was torn down but the remainder of the building was left untouched. For a while it functioned as a school, and then in 1960 the building was deemed to be part of the city’s architectural heritage and received protected status.

It’s interesting to compare Kremlins in Russia and when they were built. As far as Tula is concerned, it’s Kremlin isn’t the oldest, but neither is it the youngest.

  • Veliky Novgorod – 1490
  • Moscow – 1495
  • Nizhny Novgorod – 1515
  • Tula – 1520
  • Zaraisk – 1531
  • Kolomna – 1531
  • Astrakhan – 1581
  • Smolensk – 1602
  • Rostov – 1680

There’s actually a lot more kremlins in Russia, depending on how you define a Kremlin. Technically many monetarists could be considered Kremlins, but are classified as religious objects, such as Sergiev Posad or Zvenigorod . Some have only been partly preserved, such as Kolomna . In any case, Tula gets the honor of being one of a handful of Russian cities with a Kremlin that’s been fully preserved.

In Moscow, the Kremlin is closed to the public. In order to visit, you have to pay. And as a result, nobody gets to enjoy the Kremlin. Tourists will pay and go inside when they visit the city. But the actual residents of Moscow, the people that live in the city, never get to enjoy it. It feels separated from the city, not like an integral part of it.

It wasn’t always like this. Up until the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, Moscow’s Kremlin was open to the public and anybody could walk in and out of it. It functioned just like the Kremlins in Tula, Nizhny Novgorod, Veliky Novgorod and so forth.

Moscow should learn from these cities and open their own Kremlin up to the public. The city would become much more attractive.

One problem in Tula were the wide streets that favored cars. Tula’s main street in the city that went through the center of the city had three lanes for cars going in each direction.

It was no wonder, therefore that cars drove very fast. In fact, I was quite surprised at just how loud Tula was for a city of only half a million people. It felt like on every street there was the constant noise of cars rushing by.

What should Tula do instead? Streets like these should be reduced in size and preference given to pedestrians and cyclists. Two lanes in the middle should go toward a tram line, the other two narrowed in size to make way for a bike lane going in both directions.

Tula in fact, had tram lines operating on its main streets up until WWII, before the government decided to get rid of them.

Giving the streets back to the people would make the city a more comfortable place to live.

What I love most about these buildings is how colorful they are. They are all painted in different colors.

Unfortunately many of them were in bad shape. Traditional wooden buildings in Russia are in danger of disappearing forever. All across the country these buildings are being torn down as people move to cities and forget about the buildings where their grandparents grew up and came from. I wrote an entire separate post about the topic here about a street in Tula that was filled with these wooden buildings.

This is one of the oldest cemeteries in the city. Built in 1772, it contained some of the oldest graveyards and tombs in the city from over 100 years ago.

Tula was the city where the majority of Russian samovars were produced in the 19th century. You could find them all over Europe and chance are if you live in an old house and look in the attic, you will find a samovar that was made in the city of Tula.

Tula was an amazing city to visit in the fall. Russia can have extreme weather. Most of the year is covered in snow, but you have brief glimpses of fall, spring and summer that can be enjoyed.

These photos capture what fall in Russia is like. We happened to spend them in Tula, but really, any Russian city will look this beautiful in the fall.

When it comes t othe city of Tula itself, it is a great day trip outside of Moscow. The city is beaming with history. The armaments factory, the Kremlin, the wooden buildings in the center of the city, the beautiful cemetery atop the hill and the delicious Russian pryaniki all combine to make this worth the trek outside of Moscow.

Be sure to add it to your itinerary when you visit Russia and Moscow.

Tula is a city in Tula Oblast , 185 km away from Moscow . The population is over 400,000 people.

Understand [ edit ]

Older than Moscow, primarily the city was a major outpost of nomads. In 1503, when it became a part of the Grand Duchy of Muscovy and its southern fort, a brick-walled kremlin was built. In 1552, the city withstood the 30,000-people-strong siege of Khan Devlet Geray. In the beginning of the 16th century, it was an epicenter of the Time of Troubles.

In 1712, Peter the Great ordered the establishment of a modern weapons factory, spurring development of a great industrial ironworking center, which is still Tula's main fame. Its local-made weapons, machine tools, samovars, accordions and pryaniki (gingerbread cakes) are reputed as of the highest quality.

Tula: The best getaway from Moscow! (PHOTOS)

Tula kremlin and the Upa River embankment

Tula kremlin and the Upa River embankment

We suggest a tight schedule for two days to get the most out of the city. For how to get there, check the end of the article!

Leo Tolstoy's house in Yasnaya Polayana

Leo Tolstoy's house in Yasnaya Polayana

We recommend starting your trip at the Yasnaya Polyana country estate. It’s where famous writer Leo Tolstoy was born and lived most of his life and wrote almost all of his major works. Take a walk in the wonderful apple garden, which was planted by the writer himself (you can also buy juice made from the estate apples). Also, take a guided tour of the house, where Tolstoy’s personal belongings and furnishings have been preserved (The house is only accessible via a guided tour, so it is better to sign up in advance ).

Lunch time! There is a small café right in front of the estate entrance, where you can grab a bite to eat. Be sure to try the ‘ Ankovsky ’ lemon pie, which Tolstoy was obsessed with. If there are no vacant tables in the café, a little further away, you will find a hotel with a restaurant called ‘Dvoryanskaya Usadba’ (‘Noble Estate’), where you can try dishes based on the recipes of Sophia Andreyevna, the writer’s wife, whose cookbook has been preserved to this day.

Aivazovsky in Tula Art Museum

Aivazovsky in Tula Art Museum

Now it’s time to head into the city of Tula. If you’re not too exhausted, continue the day on an uplifting note and head to the Tula Art Museum. Check out the original canvases by Ivan Aivazovsky, Valentin Serov and Mikhail Shishkin. The exhibition is relatively small, so an hour and a half should be enough to see them all.

Belousov Park

Belousov Park

The Tula Art Museum is located right at the entrance to Belousov Park. It is a large green area, where you can encounter squirrels and joggers (or cross-country skiers), as well as ride carousels and roller coasters at the amusement park. Walking through the park (takes about 20 minutes) you will eventually get to the ‘Peter Petrovich’ restaurant. There, you can have dinner and drink homemade liqueurs or beer from its own brewery (18+!).

Metallistov street

Metallistov street

If you still have energy, it’s time for some Tula nightlife! Stroll across the pedestrian Metalistov Street. The party there doesn’t stop until late in the evening. You can have a quiet drink (there are a lot of restaurants, which put out verandas in summer), as well as have a good time dancing!

Dancing at the Upa River embankment

Good night! Tomorrow is another day full of experiences!

The Upa River embankment

The Upa River embankment

If you get up early enough, take a nice walk along the Upa River embankment. Then, visit the Tula Kremlin and its Assumption Cathedral in its pleasant and soothing lilac color. Grab a coffee at the local ‘Mr. Cup’ chain and snack on some authentic Tula gingerbread!

The helmet-shaped building of the Tula Arms Museum

The helmet-shaped building of the Tula Arms Museum

While you're still fresh and energized, it’s time for the Tula Arms Museum. On the other side of the river, you will see its building in the shape of a medieval helmet. Even for the most cursory tour of the museum, set aside at least an hour of time. Tula has a centuries long history of arms production and is home to the huge Tula Arms Plant. You’ll discover arms from ancient times to modern in the museum.

Iskra space

Iskra space

Lunch time! A 10-minute walk from the museum will take you to Iskra, a relatively new city space, right in the historical center, with many cafes and restaurants. It is especially pleasant there in the warm season, as each restaurant has its own cozy veranda and sun loungers are placed everywhere.

A monument to Tula gingerbread

A monument to Tula gingerbread

After that, you can again walk along the pedestrian Metalistov Street and check out some souvenirs – Tula gingerbread , as well as Belevskaya pastila (also a local Tula specialty). And then, check out Lenin Square, where you can find a monument to Tula gingerbread. After all, you’ll need to take a selfie with it to prove such a thing exists!

Oktava creative cluster

Oktava creative cluster

It’s time to get to know the history of Tula better. A few years ago, another interesting area was opened – the creative industrial cluster known as Oktava. It is located on the unused premises of the factory of the same name, a well-known manufacturer of electroacoustic equipment. Even Sting and Radiohead once used Oktava microphones !

The cluster hosts lectures, workshops, exhibitions of contemporary art, there is a co-working space, a library and a bookstore, as well as a recording studio. In addition, the Machine Tool Museum offers a unique multimedia exposition. We highly recommend going on the ‘Tula is the manufacturer of Russia’ excursion, where you will learn about how the city became a producer of gingerbread, samovar, weapons and other goods. Even children will enjoy it. It takes place daily every hour from 2 to 6 pm.

Inside the Machine Tool Museum's multimedia exposition

Inside the Machine Tool Museum's multimedia exposition

At 7 and 8 pm every day, there is a no less interesting multimedia tour called ‘The history of industry’ , where you’ll learn about the main milestones of world industrialization, especially Russia and Tula.

Oktava also has a neat café, where you can both have a coffee or lunch/dinner. There are also several other cafes around, as well as a large trendy food hall nearby.

It’s time to head back to Moscow! (The last train leaves at around 11 pm, so you'll have time for everything!)

How to get to Tula:

  • By car – The M-2 highway will take you straight from Moscow to Tula. The distance is 180 km and the travel time should take about 2.5-3 hours. The advantage of traveling by car is being able to stop for breakfast along the way in the city of Serpukhov. And when you get to Tula, be careful when parking, as there are many paid parking areas in the center.
  • By bus – Travel time takes around 2.5-3.5 hours and it costs an average 850-1,500 rubles (approx. $9-17). The advantage of traveling by bus is that they depart from several bus stations, so you can choose the most convenient one for you: Novoyasenevskaya bus station, Salarievo bus station or Lesoparkovaya and Orekhovo Moscow Metro stations. The time schedules can be found here (in Russian).
  • By train – There are many trains that run to Tula from Moscow, including high-speed routes. The advantage of traveling by train is a travel time of just over two hours. Trains depart from Kursksky and Vostochny railway stations. You can buy a ticket online on the Russian Railways website, with prices starting at around 500 rubles (approx. $7).
