What should I do after I have my first draft?

After you have completed the first draft of your computer science personal statement, you should follow these steps to edit, polish, and finalize your computer science personal statement:

Today, we are looking through a Computer Science applicant’s Personal Statement that helped secure a place at Oxford University. The Computer Science Course at Oxford is about understanding computer systems and networks at a deep level. Example Computer Science Personal Statement

My first experiences with mathematics throughout school were always enjoyable but not inspiring. While I loved working with maths, and enjoyed representing our school in both the UKMT and Hans Woyda team competitions, I felt that maths could not be the end-in-itself the school syllabus presented it as. As I progressed through secondary education, however, I began to really see it as the powerful tool to understand and structure reality that it is.

The first time I saw that my interpretation of the use of maths had some substance was during a work experience placement I organised at IMSO (International Mobile Satellite Organization). There I encountered some examples of the mathematical and computing problems involved in working with satellites: from the difference between the Euclidean geometry on a map and the Elliptical geometry on a globe, to the logistics of moving satellites around to meet demand while keeping them in orbit. These were problems that demanded much more than mere number crunching, and being exposed to this gave me a taste of what maths beyond school might involve. A second work experience spell at Siemens provided me a much more in-depth view of the important role that communication systems play in keeping a company running efficiently and effectively.

My passion for mathematics and computing was further extended while reading ‘The Magical Maze’ by Ian Stewart. The description of maths as the exploration of a maze of our own creation had an incredibly profound effect on my understanding of what research in mathematics involves. What interested me especially was the visual part of resolving problems, so that they did not rely completely on resolving long calculations. This was close to how I like to understand and explain my ideas in mathematics.

Douglas Hofstadter’s ‘Gödel, Escher, Bach’ gave me a much deeper understanding of the axiomatic systems that make up maths and how parallels can be drawn between different subjects to gain a further understanding of them all. Connected by the theme of Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem, the author passes through seemingly unrelated topics, such as the problem of consciousness and the mathematics of Zen principles, to explain the theorem. Although not the focus of the book, I have also enjoyed reading the links that are presented between maths and computing; it seems to me that maths is not just related to computing – computing is the physical manifestation of mathematics.

Maths and computing are about describing mental processes in a precise, logical way. The rigour required for mathematical proof leaves little room for subjectivity: something can be proven, disproven or unproven, but this depends completely on the validity of your logic. The idea of being able to extract order from apparent chaos, working through concepts until they click is what I love about these subjects, and what has attracted me to take those as an integral part of my further education.

However passionate I am about my academic studies, I also enjoy being involved in extracurricular activities. As head of mentoring and a prefect, I have improved my organizational abilities working with staff and mentors in developing study programmes for those students requiring extra help. Completing the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award – now working on the silver award – has allowed me to practice and develop my leadership and teamwork skills.

In my spare time I enjoy playing tennis, skiing and swimming; the latter I practice at competition level. I also love travelling, as having spent my childhood in Denmark, Egypt, United Kingdom and Spain has given me a hunger for mixing with different cultures. I like to unwind by playing the piano – I find that the pleasure one derives from making a piece your own is one that few activities can match.

I am thrilled about the prospect of further study in these subjects with some of the leading professors in the fields, and look forward to participating in university life.

Good Points Of The Personal Statement

This is a well-written, structured statement. The student explains their reasons to pursue a dual-honours degree and gives equal attention to both disciplines to which they are applying. The student adds personality to the statement by thoroughly explaining their own views on all of the examples of literature read around maths and computing.

Bad Points Of The Personal Statement

There are quite a lot of short paragraphs. The student could have saved space by consolidating some paragraphs into one, hence shortening the statement. The student starts three paragraphs with ‘My’ or ‘In my’. This is quite repetitive. There are too many paragraphs, seven in total. Paragraphs five and six could be shortened and grouped into one paragraph. In the third paragraph, it appears as though the student has either forgotten to add an addition space (in order to start a new paragraph) or has incorrectly started a new line for the sentence ‘Douglas Hofstadter’s…’.

UniAdmissions Overall Score:

This is a very good statement. The student has clearly achieved a lot and writes in a clear and easy-to-understand way. Attention is given to both maths and computer sciences, which is essential as the student is applying for a dual honours course. With some restructuring, this could be an excellent statement.

This Personal Statement for Computer Science is a great example of how to tackle applying to two different degrees or dual honours. The candidate’s interest and achievements are clearly shown which is vital to Admissions Tutors.

When writing a personal statement for a postgraduate course that differs from your undergraduate degree, you should:

  • Make a strong case for why you are pursuing study in a different subject area, outlining how your previous academic experience has prepared you to switch disciplines.
  • Consider the transferable and related skills which link your previous and future study.
  • Highlight prior learning and experiences relevant to the course you are looking to study. This could include employment, volunteering, extra-curricular activities, completing online courses, attending events and conferences.
  • Mention any further activities you will do before starting the course to fill any gaps in your knowledge.
  • Show you have an in-depth understanding of the subject area, including the knowledge and experience you hope to gain and how this fits in with your career aspirations.
  • Demonstrate that you have researched the programme and institution thoroughly. Highlight specific modules, practical elements, university facilities and unique aspects of the programme which attract you. Explain how the course aligns with your academic and career objectives.

Despite obtaining my undergraduate degree in social science, I have developed a passion for technology and a strong interest in the world of computer science through my academic endeavours, extra-curricular activities, and part-time job.

My journey into the realm of technology began during my undergraduate studies, where I quickly discovered the analytical and problem-solving skills inherent in computer science were the very skills I was drawn to in the field of social science.

During the first and second year of my degree, I studied optional introductory modules in 'Computing Science' and 'Data Science', which sparked my passion for technology.

Thereafter, I sought opportunities to integrate computing techniques and mathematical approaches into my projects, demonstrating my commitment to acquiring the foundational knowledge needed for a successful transition to computer science.

As such, my dissertation explored 'Data-Driven Approaches to Social Policy Evaluation', investigating how algorithms can be used to analyse large datasets and measure the impact of social policies on various outcomes, including poverty rates.

Aside from my studies, I have used my extra-curricular activities to enjoy the practical applications of computer science. As a member of an ethical hacking society, I participated in hackathons, coding competitions, and collaborative projects.

The experience was transformative, allowing me the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios and nurturing my problem-solving skills. Joining the society complemented my part-time role during university as an IT assistant, where I witnessed first-hand the necessity for IT systems and networks to work effectively to achieve business needs.

These experiences across education and employment have motivated me to study an MSc in computer science, where I can delve deeper into a number of areas including programming languages, systems development, network security and algorithms.

FACT SHEET: President   Biden Takes Action to Protect American Workers and Businesses from China’s Unfair Trade   Practices

President Biden’s economic plan is supporting investments and creating good jobs in key sectors that are vital for America’s economic future and national security. China’s unfair trade practices concerning technology transfer, intellectual property, and innovation are threatening American businesses and workers. China is also flooding global markets with artificially low-priced exports. In response to China’s unfair trade practices and to counteract the resulting harms, today, President Biden is directing his Trade Representative to increase tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 on $18 billion of imports from China to protect American workers and businesses.   The Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda has already catalyzed more than $860 billion in business investments through smart, public incentives in industries of the future like electric vehicles (EVs), clean energy, and semiconductors. With support from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act, these investments are creating new American jobs in manufacturing and clean energy and helping communities that have been left behind make a comeback.   As President Biden says, American workers and businesses can outcompete anyone—as long as they have fair competition. But for too long, China’s government has used unfair, non-market practices. China’s forced technology transfers and intellectual property theft have contributed to its control of 70, 80, and even 90 percent of global production for the critical inputs necessary for our technologies, infrastructure, energy, and health care—creating unacceptable risks to America’s supply chains and economic security. Furthermore, these same non-market policies and practices contribute to China’s growing overcapacity and export surges that threaten to significantly harm American workers, businesses, and communities.   Today’s actions to counter China’s unfair trade practices are carefully targeted at strategic sectors—the same sectors where the United States is making historic investments under President Biden to create and sustain good-paying jobs—unlike recent proposals by Congressional Republicans that would threaten jobs and raise costs across the board. The previous administration’s trade deal with China  failed  to increase American exports or boost American manufacturing as it had promised. Under President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, nearly 800,000 manufacturing jobs have been created and new factory construction has doubled after both fell under the previous administration, and the trade deficit with China is the lowest in a decade—lower than any year under the last administration.   We will continue to work with our partners around the world to strengthen cooperation to address shared concerns about China’s unfair practices—rather than undermining our alliances or applying indiscriminate 10 percent tariffs that raise prices on all imports from all countries, regardless whether they are engaged in unfair trade. The Biden-Harris Administration recognizes the benefits for our workers and businesses from strong alliances and a rules-based international trade system based on fair competition.   Following an in-depth review by the United States Trade Representative, President Biden is taking action to protect American workers and American companies from China’s unfair trade practices. To encourage China to eliminate its unfair trade practices regarding technology transfer, intellectual property, and innovation, the President is directing increases in tariffs across strategic sectors such as steel and aluminum, semiconductors, electric vehicles, batteries, critical minerals, solar cells, ship-to-shore cranes, and medical products.   Steel and Aluminum   The tariff rate on certain steel and aluminum products under Section 301 will increase from 0–7.5% to 25% in 2024.   Steel is a vital sector for the American economy, and American companies are leading the future of clean steel. Recently, the Biden-Harris Administration announced $6 billion for 33 clean manufacturing projects including for steel and aluminum, including the first new primary aluminum smelter in four decades, made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act. These investments will make the United States one of the first nations in the world to convert clean hydrogen into clean steel, bolstering the U.S. steel industry’s competitiveness as the world’s cleanest major steel producer.   American workers continue to face unfair competition from China’s non-market overcapacity in steel and aluminum, which are among the world’s most carbon intensive. China’s policies and subsidies for their domestic steel and aluminum industries mean high-quality, low-emissions U.S. products are undercut by artificially low-priced Chinese alternatives produced with higher emissions. Today’s actions will shield the U.S. steel and aluminum industries from China’s unfair trade practices.   Semiconductors   The tariff rate on semiconductors will increase from 25% to 50% by 2025.   China’s policies in the legacy semiconductor sector have led to growing market share and rapid capacity expansion that risks driving out investment by market-driven firms. Over the next three to five years, China is expected to account for almost half of all new capacity coming online to manufacture certain legacy semiconductor wafers. During the pandemic, disruptions to the supply chain, including legacy chips, led to price spikes in a wide variety of products, including automobiles, consumer appliances, and medical devices, underscoring the risks of overreliance on a few markets.   Through the CHIPS and Science Act, President Biden is making a nearly $53 billion investment in American semiconductor manufacturing capacity, research, innovation, and workforce. This will help counteract decades of disinvestment and offshoring that has reduced the United States’ capacity to manufacture semiconductors domestically. The CHIPS and Science Act includes $39 billion in direct incentives to build, modernize, and expand semiconductor manufacturing fabrication facilities as well as a 25% investment tax credit for semiconductor companies. Raising the tariff rate on semiconductors is an important initial step to promote the sustainability of these investments.   Electric Vehicles (EVs)   The tariff rate on electric vehicles under Section 301 will increase from 25% to 100% in 2024.   With extensive subsidies and non-market practices leading to substantial risks of overcapacity, China’s exports of EVs grew by 70% from 2022 to 2023—jeopardizing productive investments elsewhere. A 100% tariff rate on EVs will protect American manufacturers from China’s unfair trade practices.   This action advances President Biden’s vision of ensuring the future of the auto industry will be made in America by American workers. As part of the President’s Investing in America agenda, the Administration is incentivizing the development of a robust EV market through business tax credits for manufacturing of batteries and production of critical minerals, consumer tax credits for EV adoption, smart standards, federal investments in EV charging infrastructure, and grants to supply EV and battery manufacturing. The increase in the tariff rate on electric vehicles will protect these investments and jobs from unfairly priced Chinese imports.   Batteries, Battery Components and Parts, and Critical Minerals   The tariff rate on lithium-ion EV batteries will increase from 7.5%% to 25% in 2024, while the tariff rate on lithium-ion non-EV batteries will increase from 7.5% to 25% in 2026. The tariff rate on battery parts will increase from 7.5% to 25% in 2024.   The tariff rate on natural graphite and permanent magnets will increase from zero to 25% in 2026. The tariff rate for certain other critical minerals will increase from zero to 25% in 2024.   Despite rapid and recent progress in U.S. onshoring, China currently controls over 80 percent of certain segments of the EV battery supply chain, particularly upstream nodes such as critical minerals mining, processing, and refining. Concentration of critical minerals mining and refining capacity in China leaves our supply chains vulnerable and our national security and clean energy goals at risk. In order to improve U.S. and global resiliency in these supply chains, President Biden has invested across the U.S. battery supply chain to build a sufficient domestic industrial base. Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Defense Production Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act, the Biden-Harris Administration has invested nearly $20 billion in grants and loans to expand domestic production capacity of advanced batteries and battery materials. The Inflation Reduction Act also contains manufacturing tax credits to incentivize investment in battery and battery material production in the United States. The President has also established the American Battery Materials Initiative, which will mobilize an all-of-government approach to secure a dependable, robust supply chain for batteries and their inputs.   Solar Cells   The tariff rate on solar cells (whether or not assembled into modules) will increase from 25% to 50% in 2024.   The tariff increase will protect against China’s policy-driven overcapacity that depresses prices and inhibits the development of solar capacity outside of China. China has used unfair practices to dominate upwards of 80 to 90% of certain parts of the global solar supply chain, and is trying to maintain that status quo. Chinese policies and nonmarket practices are flooding global markets with artificially cheap solar modules and panels, undermining investment in solar manufacturing outside of China.   The Biden-Harris Administration has made historic investments in the U.S. solar supply chain, building on early U.S. government-enabled research and development that helped create solar cell technologies. The Inflation Reduction Act provides supply-side tax incentives for solar components, including polysilicon, wafers, cells, modules, and backsheet material, as well as tax credits and grant and loan programs supporting deployment of utility-scale and residential solar energy projects. As a result of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, solar manufacturers have already announced nearly $17 billion in planned investment under his Administration—an 8-fold increase in U.S. manufacturing capacity, enough to supply panels for millions of homes each year by 2030.   Ship-to-Shore Cranes   The tariff rate on ship-to-shore cranes will increase from 0% to 25% in 2024.   The Administration continues to deliver for the American people by rebuilding the United States’ industrial capacity to produce port cranes with trusted partners. A 25% tariff rate on ship-to-shore cranes will help protect U.S. manufacturers from China’s unfair trade practices that have led to excessive concentration in the market. Port cranes are essential pieces of infrastructure that enable the continuous movement and flow of critical goods to, from, and within the United States, and the Administration is taking action to mitigate risks that could disrupt American supply chains. This action also builds off of ongoing work to invest in U.S. port infrastructure through the President’s Investing in America Agenda. This port security initiative includes bringing port crane manufacturing capabilities back to the United States to support U.S. supply chain security and encourages ports across the country and around the world to use trusted vendors when sourcing cranes or other heavy equipment.   Medical Products   The tariff rates on syringes and needles will increase from 0% to 50% in 2024. For certain personal protective equipment (PPE), including certain respirators and face masks, the tariff rates will increase from 0–7.5% to 25% in 2024. Tariffs on rubber medical and surgical gloves will increase from 7.5% to 25% in 2026.   These tariff rate increases will help support and sustain a strong domestic industrial base for medical supplies that were essential to the COVID-19 pandemic response, and continue to be used daily in every hospital across the country to deliver essential care. The federal government and the private sector have made substantial investments to build domestic manufacturing for these and other medical products to ensure American health care workers and patients have access to critical medical products when they need them. American businesses are now struggling to compete with underpriced Chinese-made supplies dumped on the market, sometimes of such poor quality that they may raise safety concerns for health care workers and patients.   Today’s announcement reflects President Biden’s commitment to always have the back of American workers. When faced with anticompetitive, unfair practices from abroad, the President will deploy any and all tools necessary to protect American workers and industry.

Cybersecurity Event Update

Ascension continues to make progress towards restoration and recovery following the recent ransomware attack. We continue to work with industry leading forensic experts from Mandiant to conduct our investigation into this attack and understand the root cause and how this incident occurred. In parallel, we have brought in additional cybersecurity experts from Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 and from CYPFER to help supplement our rebuild and restoration efforts. We are focused on getting systems back up and running as safely and as quickly as possible. We are also working on reconnecting with our vendors with the help of our recovery experts. Please be aware that it may still take some time to return to normal operations.

Our priority remains providing quality patient care and relaying up-to-date information when available as we work through this recovery process. Please continue to refer to this website page along with the regional update pages for more information. We encourage anyone seeking information surrounding the incident or with questions about the operational status of Ascension facilities to visit this page for the latest updates.

General - Frequently Asked Questions

On May 8, Ascension detected unusual activity in our network systems, which we have determined is due to a ransomware attack. We continue to diligently investigate and address this ransomware attack, working closely with industry-leading cybersecurity experts to assist in our investigation and recovery efforts.

Systems that are currently unavailable include some electronic health records systems, some patient portals (which enables patients to view their medical records and communicate with their providers), some phone systems and various systems utilized to order certain tests, procedures and medications. We have implemented established protocols and procedures to address these particular system disruptions in order to continue to provide care to patients.

Downtime procedures are safe clinical practices born out of necessity. They are predefined steps that all healthcare organizations follow during a system or network failure developed in case of a potential threat. We are taking all necessary precautions at this time and our downtime procedures require our highly qualified, dedicated medical, nursing and clinical teams to utilize manual processes to ensure patients are properly cared for.

Manual processes including moving to paper records and processing everything by hand are being utilized for varying clinical processes including dispensing medication, inputting health medical records, ordering and completion of diagnostic tests and procedures, contacting patients and sharing information securely.

Our restoration work will take time, and we do not have a timeline for completion. We will continue to provide updates as appropriate.

Ascension previously reported that it experienced a ransomware attack that has caused disruptions to patient care in its network. Our priority remains on providing safe patient care. Ascension, with the support of leading cybersecurity experts, worked around the clock over the weekend to respond to the ransomware incident affecting our systems. We are focused on restoring systems safely. We are making progress, however, it will take time to return to normal operations. As systems and services come back online, we will share those updates so that our patients and communities can plan accordingly. We have established a dedicated website to share any updates we have across our system. We will be expanding the site this week to provide updates related to healthcare services as they relate to specific regions.

May 11 - 2:00pm CT

We continue to diligently investigate and address the recent ransomware incident, working closely with industry leading cybersecurity experts to assist in our investigation and restoration and recovery efforts. Additionally, we have notified law enforcement, as well as government partners including the FBI, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the American Hospital Association (AHA). We remain in close contact with the FBI and CISA, and we are sharing relevant threat intelligence with the Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center (H-ISAC) so that our industry partners and peers can take steps to protect themselves from similar incidents.

While our restoration work continues in earnest, our focus is on restoring systems as safely as possible. While we expect this process will take time to complete, we are making progress and systems are being restored in a coordinated manner at each of our care sites. We will continue to share updates on our recovery process.

We are working around the clock with internal and external advisors to investigate, contain, and restore our systems following a thorough validation and screening process. Our investigation and restoration work will take time to complete, and we do not have a timeline for completion.

Safely caring for patients remains our highest priority as we navigate this cybersecurity incident. We are actively supporting our ministries as they continue to provide safe, patient care with established downtime protocols and procedures, in which our workforce is well trained. It is expected that we will be utilizing downtime procedures for some time. Patients should bring to their appointment notes on their symptoms and a list of current medications and prescription numbers or the prescription bottles so their care team can call in medication needs to pharmacies.

Systems that are currently unavailable include our electronic health records system, MyChart (which enables patients to view their medical records and communicate with their providers), some phone systems, and various systems utilized to order certain tests, procedures and medications. We have implemented established protocols and procedures to address these particular system disruptions in order to continue to provide safe care to patients. Out of an abundance of caution, however, some non-emergent elective procedures, tests and appointments have been temporarily paused while we work to bring systems back online. Our teams are working directly with any patient whose appointment or procedure will need to be rescheduled. We understand the frustration this may cause and sincerely regret any inconvenience to our patients.

On Wednesday, May 8, we detected unusual activity on select technology network systems, which we now believe is due to a cybersecurity event. At this time we continue to investigate the situation. We responded immediately, initiated our investigation and activated our remediation efforts. Access to some systems have been interrupted as this process continues.

Our care teams are trained for these kinds of disruptions and have initiated procedures to ensure patient care delivery continues to be safe and as minimally impacted as possible. There has been a disruption to clinical operations, and we continue to assess the impact and duration of the disruption.

We have engaged Mandiant, a third party expert, to assist in the investigation and remediation process, and we have notified the appropriate authorities. Together, we are working to fully investigate what information, if any, may have been affected by the situation. Should we determine that any sensitive information was affected, we will notify and support those individuals in accordance with all relevant regulatory and legal guidelines.

We are reaching out to our business partners to ensure they are aware of the situation so they can take appropriate steps to safeguard their systems. We encourage all business partners to coordinate with the Ascension Technology partners to address any specific questions.

Computer Science Personal Statement

This subject interests me because I am always using computers and have been using them from such a young age and I own many different computer interfaces from desktop computers to tablets and I enjoy using them. I think I’m suitable for this course because I have a passion for computer programming.

The only skill I have for coding is taking part in a course called ” An Hour of Code” on a website called code.org . They teach you the very basics of programming and how enjoyable it could be to program. I am very creative, calm in stressful environments, and a good problem solver. My maths is good and I enjoy maths a lot, I also enjoy challenging myself.

I have worked as a Teaching Assistant at my old primary school for work experience when I was studying in Secondary School, preparing documentations and presentations for senior staff.

After I complete the course, I wish to work in software engineering. By using the knowledge gained from this course, such as learning to program and use a programming language such as JavaScript and work with successful major companies such as Apple, designing software and applications is what I want to do.

The current course I am studying is BTEC extended applied Science Level 3.

I am a hardworking and highly motivated individual as I ensure that I keep all my assignments up to date and ensure they are submitted on time. I received mostly merits and distinctions on my assignments during the first year of my course. I received a Merit in Unit 8 which was mostly maths and statistical analysis. 

My attendance is excellent, showing I am motivated as I always attend college to learn and gain more knowledge. Assignments are always in on time ensuring that I never miss the deadline for the assignments and done to the best ofmy ability showing how hardworking I am. I am also a multilingual, able to speak two additional languages fluently (Swedish and Luganda).

I was born in Sweden and lived for eight years then moved to the United Kingdom but travelled back to Sweden throughout my childhood visiting my eldest sibling, childhood friends, and other family relatives.

The first time when I used a PC, it made me become more intrigued to see how these interfaces function, the technology behind computer interfaces and the philosophy of how they function. I would like to learn how software is developed. I think that it’s astonishing to look as the advanced transformation of technology shapes society; there is such a great amount to still be discovered.

The universe of computing is developing at an incredible rate each day, computers are the most influential and widely used tools in our lives. As I would like to think nothing on earth can gauge the exponential development and energy software industry, which I wish to be involved in, especially Software Engineering.

I am aiming to concentrate on a processing related subject as I feel that computers are extremely important in all occupations and ordinary life. In the course of recent years, I have added to an incredible enthusiasm for software engineering, programming advancement, and the IT business. I have a strong enthusiasm for processing and computer interface related frameworks and innovation.

At a young age I used to appreciate dismantling things to perceive how they function, and my enthusiasm for computer interfaces peaked especially when I was young, as time went and new innovation was produced by significant organizations, for example, Apple and Microsoft.

I have always had a passion for computers. Ever since I realised I had the natural ability in this field. I have wanted to expand my knowledge of ICT. I find the more I learn the more I want to learn. I believe computers are not only a huge part of the present but will only become a bigger part of the future and I believe with the knowledge I have already gained and the knowledge I hope to gain in the future I will do better in the working industry.

Every part of every course to do with ICT I have enjoyed even if for example I found a unit challenging I relished in the chance to use my skills in ICT to complete a unit to the best standard, whilst learning more useful skills. I have always found that with every challenge put in front of me I have always come out of the other end with a wider range of skills and looking for the next challenge ahead.

The computing course I want to enrol in I feel is the right course for me, I believe this because it would be wrong for me not to go higher into my field of education, the Course I am taking now the applied A level ICT course is teaching me many aspects of computing and with the enjoyment I am gaining in this course I feel I must go higher.

After my completion of the computing course I hope to go into a career in systems analysis. With the all the skills combined throughout my journey in education I would have the right strengths to go into this career. I want to use the skills I gain in the best possible mannor. I have always enjoyed problem solving and with all my skills combined I want to be valued in an organisation and to be useful to any employer. I have experienced being in a team before many times and I have always relished it.

I have had many accounts of work experience, all involving team working. My first experience was a two week work experience placement in ASDA. I did 9-5 Monday- Friday for two weeks, with no pay. At only the age of 15 this experience was invaluable I learnt so much from just a short while, I mainly learnt that the working world most importantly needs to work as a team. I was mainly working on the shop floor where two or sometimes three members of staff were working with me to complete tasks and finish stacking stock on time.

My second work experience was at Sainsbury's, I gained ten months experience at this supermarket. This experience mainly taught me how to apply more than one skill to a job, as well as working on shop floor I was till trained and often asked to help out the till department if it was getting busy.

This taught me that I have the ability to handle more than one skill and put all my skills to use for my team. I also learnt how to deal with any type of customer, with time and with the help of my team I was able to keep my calm in any situation and be polite and confident to any customer that required my attention.

I was recently hired for Iceland stores as a Christmas temp. I am sure that this job will scratch of any rust I may have from a gap of employment. Also this Christmas temp job will give me a test to see if I can handle pressure in a busy period such as the Christmas holidays. With all this experience both behind and in front of me I am sure that I have no worries in applying myself to the working world.

I have looked at a number of options I can choose and I firmly believe that university is the best next step forward. Every aspect of university I know I will enjoy from expanding my knowledge even further to living in the halls and interacting with many different people.

One of the greatest things about college is you learn so much from other people, you are in the same boat as everyone else but everyone is different and I believe this will be the same at university. A place at your university will not be wasted I will prove that I can gain even more knowledge of the computer industry and use that knowledge in the best possible way.
