PhD Flopper

  • View history

The subject of this article appeared in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

PhD Flopper , fully known as PhD Flopper Soda [1] is a Perk-a-Cola featured in Zombies . It was introduced along with Stamin-Up in the map Ascension and returns in Call of the Dead, Shangri-La , Moon , Cell Block and Origins . PhD Flopper also makes an appearance in part as a Persistent Upgrade on Buried as well as an unobtainable Easter Egg on the maps Die Rise , Mob of the Dead , and Blood of the Dead . PhD Flopper was replaced by Widow's Wine in the remastered version of Ascension, Shangri-La, Moon and Origins, due to the absence of diving to prone in Black Ops III . In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III , PhD Flopper replaces PhD Slider from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War .

Overview [ ]

The Perk-a-Cola costs 2000 points and features a dark blue and purple color scheme, though primarily purple. Its icon displays a radiation trefoil emitting shock waves. PhD Flopper completely negates self-inflicted damage; however, the player will still groan and suffer temporary movement reduction when falling down from an elevated area. Another feature of this perk is that when players dive to prone from a height from which they would normally take damage, a 7.5 meter radius explosion is created upon landing.

The explosion is very powerful, with a maximum of 5000 damage at the center of the blast, and can kill zombies with one hit up to approximately round 20. Between rounds 20 to 30, PhD Flopper will begin to make crawlers, and on rounds beyond 30, zombies will retain their legs even in the center of the blast. The perk is made from prunes and some types of chemicals. However, as this is an explosive "weapon", it should be noted that the player only receives 50 points per kill, when opposed to the 60 points that are acquired by using a bullet firing weapon, so using a gun would be advised if the player is going to buy something, such as other Perk-a-Colas. This perk does not seem to work when diving right on top of multiple zombies. It should also be noted when "flopping" that landing on a prone player while diving to prone will cause both players to be downed instantly, so one should avoid other teammates while diving.

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III , PhD Flopper also negates the effects of fire, gas, and self-explosion damage, and no longer requires the player to dive from a height in order to trigger an explosion.

Locations [ ]

Call of duty: black ops [ ].

  • Ascension - In the room by Lunar Lander Д (closest to MP5K ), with the grenades available to purchase off the nearby wall. Can also be obtained from a Random Perk Bottle by finishing a Space Monkey round without having any machines attacked.
  • Call of The Dead - In the abandoned second floor of the multi-story building that branches off of the lighthouse. Can also be obtained from a Random Perk Bottle by killing George A. Romero.
  • Shangri-La - Will spawn randomly in the mines. (changes spawn with Stamin-Up , Double Tap and Deadshot Daiquiri ). Can also be obtained from a Random Perk Bottle by killing a zombie monkey as it cycles the power-up after it steals one.
  • Moon - Spawns on the far right side in the Bio-Dome near the Mystery Box spawn. Can also be obtained from a Random Perk Bottle by either jumping multiple times on the bounce pads or spawning one with a QED.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II [ ]

  • Die Rise - Unobtainable Easter Egg in the first elevator shaft from the spawn room.
  • Cell Block - Found in the corner of the library, in the same location as the Olympia . Next to the spawn room in Mob of the Dead.
  • Buried - Available as one of the Persistent Upgrades by taking a sufficient amount of fall damage repeatedly (Note that it does not protect the player from over-cooked grenades or fall damage). Not physically available nor is obtained from a Random Perk Bottle, which is achieved by killing all the Ghosts after traversing trough the mansion.
  • Origins - Obtained via the Der Wunderfizz machine. Not physically available.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 [ ]

  • Blood of the Dead - In the same place found in Mob of the Dead.

Appearance [ ]

The PhD Flopper machine is very thin, similar to that of Widow's Wine , and is covered in blood. It has a yellow paint job (which later changes to purple) on the front of the machine. There are four levers, from up to down, coloured red, green, white and purple. Under them, a bottle dispenser with a coffee cup in it can be seen. Under that, the words "Flopper PhD" can also be seen. On the top of the machine, the PhD Flopper shield can be seen, with several rods with yellow spheres stick out of it.

Call of Duty Online [ ]

PhD Flopper appears in Cyborg Rising mode of Call of Duty Online , translated as Armor Cola . It is exclusive to the character Sergeant , and is awarded to the player after surviving three rounds.

Black Ops 2 Zombies Guide: PhD Flopper Permaperk

Here's how to get the PhD Flopper permaperk in the new Zombies map, Buried.

PhD Flopper is a permaperk that can only be attained in the new Zombies map for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Buried. As a hidden permaperk, the only way to get it is to jump from a certain distance and take fall damage. It’s a recreation of the sort of perk that you’d pick up at the Perk-a-Cola dispenser.

Watch the video if you want to find out how to get the PhD Flopper. You’ll notice a green flash when you take fall damage.

As you may have already known, Buried is the new Zombies map that comes in the Vengeance DLC pack. You can take a look at the map, along with gameplay footage here .

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Vengeance is out today on the Xbox 360. It’ll be a month before it comes out on the PC and PlayStation 3 due to an exclusivity deal between Activision and Microsoft.

Cold War Zombies Season 6: PhD Flopper will become PhD Slider - New Effects inbound

Will this perk even work with Black Ops Cold War's mechanics?

what does phd flopper do

Published: 05 Oct 2021 9:25 PM +00:00 Updated: 05 Oct 2021 9:35 PM +00:00

Season 6 will be the grand finale for Black Ops Cold War Zombies - and it's going out with a bang!

In Season 6 we'll be getting a new round-based Zombies map called "Forsaken", and there's a new Perk-a-Cola on the way as well!

Table of Contents

Latest: phd slider tier upgrades revealed, full reveal - phd flopper is phd slider, now, new perk teaser - phd flopper is coming, release date - when does the season 6 update drop.

Here's everything we know about PhD Slider, the new perk, and why it isn't called PhD Flopper anymore...

Treyarch have released the Season 6 patch notes for Black Ops Cold War , and with it comes some more information on the new PhD Slider Perk for Call of Duty Zombies.

Here are the new PhD Slider upgrades unlocked at each tier of the skill:

  • Base Ability - Sliding into enemies triggers an explosion. The size and damage increase the further you slide before impact
  • Skill Tier I - Immunity to environmental damage while sliding
  • Skill Tier II - Increased slide duration
  • Skill Tier III - Immunity to self-inflicted explosive damage
  • Skill Tier IV - Increased slide speed
  • Skill Tier V - Falling from a large height will trigger an explosion - the size and damage increases the higher you fall

As you upgrade PhD Slider it will become even more lethal, which will add a ton of fun to the new Zombies content coming in Season 6!

We were a bit confused when we saw PhD Flopper was due to return - because Black Ops Cold War doesn't have a diving mechanic - and now we know what the deal is.

PhD Flopper is being called PhD Slider from here on out. It'll work the same way, but just with sliding instead! Here's the basic effect of PhD Slider :

" Sliding into enemies triggers an explosion. The size and damage increase the farther you slide before impact."

PhD Flopper Perk Slider Woods

You will also be able to upgrade PhD Slider with Aetherium Crystals and unlock self-inflicted damage immunity and bigger explosions. More on that to come soon...

Ahead of an official announcement, Treyarch revealed the following "Twitter Voice" on their official Twitter channel. It's a short clip of some Perk Machine audio with the icon associated with Black Ops' PhD Flopper perk. You can check it out below:

A lot of people - and one account called DailyPhDFlopper - are excited to see this iconic perk make a return, however... It does raise a few questions on how it will work.

Black Ops Cold War doesn't have a "dive feature" - rather, you slide in Black Ops Cold War when you hold Crouch. We don't know whether this Perk will include a new "dive feature" just yet, but Treyarch should confirm how it works soon.

Traditionally, PhD Flopper is a perk that negates self-inflicted damage - mainly through explosions - and allows the player to "dive" to create a small explosion upon landing. Something to remove self-inflicted damage would be useful in Black Ops Cold War Zombies - but what about the diving?

Black Ops Cold War's new Zombies map is due to launch alongside the rest of Season 6's content at the following times:

  • 21:00 October 6th - PST
  • 23:00 October 6th - EST
  • 04:00 October 7th - BST

At the moment, we know that the new Zombies map is called "Forsaken" and that Alex Mason is set to be the Season 6 Battle Pass Operator . Warzone's Verdansk '84 is also going to undergo a few drastic changes ahead of Vanguard's release. You can see it all in the Cinematic Trailer below:

Treyarch Confirms PhD Flopper As Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies’ Final Perk

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans get confirmation on the tenth and final perk, with the beloved PhD Flopper filling this role.

For some time now, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have known that the next round-based map will be the game’s last. They have also known that the final Survival location will feature a new perk, with Treyarch confirming that a classic beverage is returning in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War .

Back near launch, the lineup of additional Zombies perks leaked . Both Tombstone and Mule Kick were on this list, with fans able to listen to their jingles long before they became purchasable in the game. However, Double Tap did not end up coming, as the incredibly strong perk would have thrown off balancing based on Treyarch’s comments. As such, it was replaced with Death Perception, a Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 perk that is particularly useful for Outbreak players.

RELATED: Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Players Want Randomized Finishers

Following this Death Perception change , some were wondering if PhD Flopper would be swapped out with another perk as well. Fortunately, that is not the case. Treyarch not only changed its Twitter profile picture to the perk’s instantly recognizable logo, but the developer also posted its iconic jingle in a separate Tweet. While this is obviously exciting, it is interesting that the perk is using its original design and song, as that would imply functionality similar to its first appearance.

The issue with PhD Flopper is that, as its name suggests, it relies on players diving from large heights to trigger an explosion. Because of this, the perk could not fill its original role in games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4 . Once Treyarch swapped out dolphin dives for sliding, one of the main features of the perk went away. While it could retain the explosive invulnerability, “flopping” was no longer possible. As such, the perk was not seen in Black Ops 3 and was reworked into the less interesting PhD Slider in Black Ops 4 .

With this in mind, it will be interesting to see how it functions. While it is possible that it features a flopping ability just like the original, it seems unlikely that Treyarch would add a whole new mechanic for one perk. As such, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players may see it functioning like PhD Slider, but with the classic jingle and design used to evoke some nostalgia. With 5 perk tiers to work with, though, an upgraded version of the perk could end up being very powerful.

With more being shown from Season 6’s Forsaken map later today, players may only need to wait a few hours before they get their answers on how exactly PhD Flopper works. Based on the reaction so far, though, the Zombies community is very happy to see it back.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

PhD Flopper

For the perk's successor, see PhD Slider .

PhD Flopper is a Perk-a-Cola Machine that appears in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Nazi Zombies maps Ascension , Call of the Dead , Shangri-La ,  Moon , and secretly on Die Rise  and Mob of the Dead , as well as in Cell Block and  Origins  from the WunderFizz Machine . After the player buys the perk, all damage that the player could cause to themselves by explosives and fall damage is nullified. It completely removes splash damage, making the Ray Gun, Mustang & Sally, Matryoshka Dolls or any explosive good for getting out of tight situations, and adds a miniature explosion whenever a player with the perk dives to prone. However, the explosion only occurs if you dive high enough that you would normally recieve fall damage. It instantly kills all zombies within the small radius of the explosion in the earlier rounds and makes crawlers in the later rounds. Any kill you get from the explosion is only 50 points like all the other explosives.

A Persistent Upgrade on Buried is based off of PhD Flopper, excluding the negating effects of fall damage and overcooked grenades.

Due to the Sliding move replacing the "Dolphin Dive" move in Black Ops III , the perk is completley absent. Substitute Gobblegums serve as replacements, which are Danger Closest, and Slaughter Slide. In the Black Ops III version of Ascension , Shangri-La , Moon , and Origins , it was replaced by Widow's Wine .

  • According to the players, PhD Flopper taste like Prunes and Chemicals.
  • Takeo is allergic to prunes, making this his least favorite perk
  • In the Die Rise map on Black Ops 2, PhD Flopper is secretly located on the 3rd level when going down the broken cargo elevator (at the beginning). It is physicaly impossible for the player to get to it because there is an invisible barrier around it. It is easier to see this perk machine when going into theater mode going on free camera.
  • PhD Flopper makes it return into Black Ops 2 Zombies, in the map Mob of the Dead . As well as appearing by the docks, it is available for purchase in Cell Block , Grief for 2000 points.
  • It is a play on the soda Dr. Pepper.
  • The jingle is not heard at all in Black Ops II , as the machine is only present on Cell Block, where all the Perk Machines have distorted jingles.
  • The radius of the explosion is listed as "300" while the minimum damage is 1000, maximum damage is 5000.

How to Complete PHD Flopper Explosions Weekly Challenge in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies

Home » Call of Duty MW3 » PHD Flopper Explosions Weekly Challenge in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies

The first week of Modern Warfare 3 launch gave us a weekly challenge that demands players get 30 kills with PHD Flopper Explosions in MW3 Zombies mode. This new game mode brought in several new mechanics and you might be confused by what you’re supposed to do here. One of them are this soda drinks you can find in loot caches or buy at special festival shops. Once you consume these drinks you’ll get a special buff. PHD Flopper is one of those drinks. Let me quickly explain what you need to do to finish your weekly or daily challenge involving PHD Flopper explosions in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies.

How to do 30 Zombie Kills With PHD Flopper Explosions?

PHD Flopper is a buff drink that, when consumed, triggers and explosion when you dive to prone. What this means is that you have to run and press and hold crouch, by default, while running to dive into the prone stance. If you drank the PHD Flopper beforehand this will trigger an explosion that damages surrounding enemies. PHD Flopper explosions increase in strength the higher you fall. This means that if you dive to prone from a top of the building the explosion will be massive. Also, while under the influence of this buff, you get no fall damage while diving and your explosion does not affect you.

I did this challenge by attracting the attention of a bunch of zombies and climbing on top of a nearby wall. I would than run on top of the wall and press crouch facing the zombie mob that would be bellow me. I would dive into prone among them and explode. It took several tries to get enough to complete the challenge. Do note tthat as soon as you land and explode you need to get up and start running. Otherwise, those zombies you didn’t kill will rip you to shreds.

How to get the PHD Flopper Can in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies?

You can find PHD Flopper can in finished contract reward portals or in rare loot caches. You can also get it as a reward from one of the first MW3 zombies missions. The easiest way though is to look at the map for an icon with a nuclear sign on it. When you hover over it it should say PHD Flopper. This is a special vendor kiosk that you can buy the buff from for that single deployment. I believe it costs 2000 aether. If you get this soda can as a drop before this daily you might want to exfil with it. This will keep it in your acquisitions and you can bring it with you to a deployment once PHD Flopper Explosions daily/weekly challenge happens again.

MW3 Zombies PHD Flopper Can location map

Similar buff was obtrainable in “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War”. It was a PhD slider you got from a perk machine.

MWZ PhD Flopper Has Hidden Ability You May Not Know About

Post Cover Image

PhD Flopper is an iconic Call of Duty Zombies perk that protects you from splash damage and lets you create an explosion when you dolphin dive, but in MWZ, it has a new secret ability.

Previously, gamers had discovered that PhD Flopper would protect you from the gas that rolls in after the 45-minute timer and the area that contains the Stormcaller boss. However, this was just a bug and no longer works.

Now, another feature of this perk has been found, but whether it is an intentional benefit is not known. So, let’s dive into this hidden ability and how it can help you in the game!

PhD Flopper Has Hidden Ability In MWZ

P h D Flopper in MWZ will let you stay underwater for an infinite amount of time. With this perk active, even when the oxygen levels deplete to zero, you will not lose health.

However, you will still have the visual effects of drowning underwater , which include obscured vision and a red flash appearing on your screen .

This feature can be beneficial in the Tier 3 zone if you can get a Mega Abomination to launch towards you into the water. Here, this MWZ boss will become stationary and easier to kill.

You can view an example of this MWZ PhD Flopper feature in the video below, noting that we did not take damage when testing it:

It is unknown whether this is an intended feature or a bug similar to the gas protection it previously gave.

It is worth noting that being able to breathe infinitely underwater while this perk is active is not part of its description in the menus.

PhD Flopper MWZ Description

However, content creator Glitching Queen did point out that the Easter Egg to get a free PhD Flopper involves water. This could be a nod towards the secret ability.

We must wait and see if the developers patch this infinite breathing underwater feature. If it does not, it can be safe to assume this is an actual ability of the perk.

PhD Slider Zombies Perk: Everything You Need To Know

Slide into the undead!

what does phd flopper do

Published: 06 Oct 2021 11:06 AM +00:00 Updated: 07 Oct 2021 1:09 PM +00:00

Season 6 of Black Ops Cold War is finally here, much to the excitement of the Zombies community that will be getting to grips with the brand-new Forsaken map , the fourth and final chapter of the Dark Aether storyline. As the battle between Requiem and Omega reaches its conclusion, Forsaken will contain a brand-new Easter Egg quest along with the return of a Perk long-time fans will be extremely familiar with.

An iteration of PhD Flopper is making its return in Season 6. Known as PhD Slider, the Perk enables players to slide into undead opposition to deal a bit of additional damage. Here's everything you need to know about PhD Slider, including all five Skill Tiers available to upgrade.

PhD Slider Black Ops Cold War Zombies

As with every Perk in Cold War Zombies, there are a total of five upgradable Skill Tiers that provide a range of additional benefits when the Perk has been purchased. Here are the Skill Tiers available for PhD Slider:

  • Skill Tier 1 - Immunity to environmental damage when sliding.
  • Skill Tier 2 - Increased slide duration.
  • Skill Tier 3 - Immunity to self-inflicted explosive damage.
  • Skill Tier 4 - Increased slide speed.
  • Skill Tier 5 - Falling from a large height will trigger an explosion, the size and damage will increase the higher you fall.

PhD Slider can be found at the very top of the map inside the Observation Tower. It's worth noting that you will take damage due to Aetherium Crystal radiation so be sure to grab it quickly before it's too late.

Perks in Zombies cost a few thousand Essence to purchase and considering the huge number of benefits they provide, they're one of the main items that players must buy in order to make it into the higher rounds. The cost of Perks increases by 500 Essence depending on how many you already have, meaning you could get your hands on PhD Slider for as little as 2500 Essence.

Considering Tier 3 of PhD Slider grants immunity to any explosive damage that you deal, it makes a lot of sense to purchase this Perk in order to escape any sticky situations that you may find yourself in. Stuck in a corner with no way out? Throw grenades at the floor to clear Zombies out of the way and live to fight for another round!

How to Get the PHD Flopper Schematic in MWZ

How to Get the PHD Flopper Schematic in MW3 Zombies

Image of Christian Bognar

The PHD Flopper is a helpful perk in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies that can deal with crowd control damage as it explodes and hits every enemy nearby. If you want to permanently unlock PHD Flopper and gain easy access to this powerful perk, you will want to find the Schematic.

This guide will walk you through how to get the PHD Flopper Schematic in MW3 Zombies, as there are specific steps one must take to unlock it officially.

Unlocking the PHD Flopper Schematic in MW3 Zombies

Players can get the PHD Flopper Schematic in MW3 Zombies by completing Contracts in a Tier 2 Zone . Completing contracts within these zones makes it possible for the PHD Flopper Schematic to appear as a reward, although it is not guaranteed.

If you complete a contract within a Tier 2 Zone and unfortunately don’t receive the PHD Flopper Schematic as a reward, then you’ll have to continue to complete contracts until you do. The good news is that it doesn’t matter which contract you complete; it’s just mandatory that it takes place within a Tier 2 Zone to unlock the PHD Flopper.

Best Contracts to Complete for Schematics

The best contracts to complete while trying to unlock a Schematic in a specific zone are the ones that take little time to complete . Focusing on short contracts will allow you to complete them in quick succession, increasing your chances of obtaining the Schematic in mind. The quickest contracts are Eliminate the Bounty, Outlast, and Deliver Cargo .

Related: How to Get Elemental Pop Schematic in MW3 Zombies

I recommend focusing on Deliver Cargo contracts as they’re the quickest to complete and relatively easy. The objective of the Deliver Cargo contract is to take an armored vehicle to a specific location, something that should take little time. The location is usually not far at all from where you accept the contract, meaning it’s a short drive.

Remember, make sure that the contract takes place within a Tier 2 Zone to create the chance of getting the PHD Flopper Schematic as a reward!

If you want to find other Schematics in MW3 Zombies, we have you covered with guides on the Attack of the Fanboy site. Check out our guides on how to get the Deadshot Daiquiri , Epic Aether Tool , and Speed Cola Schematics.

MWZ: How to get free PhD Flopper – Easter Egg guide

  • BY Joe Harby

Perk-a-Colas in Modern Warfare 3 zombies.

This Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Zombies (MWZ) easter egg guide explains how to get free PhD Flopper .

MW3 ‘s Zombies mode (MWZ) might be our favourite part of the game. It mixes up the familiar round-based Zombies formula and replaces with an experience based on Warzone ‘s DMZ. Many Zombies hallmarks return, including Perk-a-Colas.

As usual, they are purchasable via in-game vending machines. However, you can also get them for free by completing special easter eggs for each Perk-a-Cola.

While it’s worth noting these easter eggs can only be completed once per lobby and will grant the perk to just one squad member, they are still worth doing.

PhD Flopper – which negates self-inflicted damage and creates a powerful explosion when dolphin diving – has its own easter egg. Having completed the easter egg for ourselves, we can now share all the necessary steps with you. Check out our easter egg guide below.

How to get free PhD Flopper in Zombies (MWZ) – Easter Egg guide

This is how to get PHD Flopper for free in Modern Warfare III Zombies (MWZ):

Go to the top of Shahin Manor at map coordinates H7. Use the individual roofs to climb up onto the wooden pergola (shown in the images below).

From the top of the pergola, sprint to the edge and perform a dolphin dive into the large swimming pool below.

If completed successfully, a reward portal containing PhD Flopper will appear under the water. This will only be visible and accessible to the player that completed the easter egg.

And there you have it – that’s how to get PhD Flopper for free in MW3 Zombies by completing an easter egg.
