How to Present PowerPoint Slideshow in Google Meet

Instead of sharing your device’s screen in Google Meet , the best way to present is to share the window with your PowerPoint slides. This ensures your audience won’t see any sensitive notifications or other areas of your desktop. Here’s how to go about it.

  • Open your PowerPoint presentation.
  • Join a Google Meet meeting. If you’re the host, you have to first create a Google Meet .

If your PowerPoint window is minimized, it won’t appear under the Window tab. Therefore, ensure it's maximized and running in the background.

When you hide the toolbar, it becomes a minimized Chrome window. Click the Chrome icon to reveal it when you're ready to stop sharing.

Slideshow mode provides the best viewing experience for your audience by displaying your slide in full screen, without distractions like ribbons and slide sorter. It also shows transitions and animations on the slide.

  • When you’re done, hit Esc on your keyboard to exit the slideshow.
  • Click Stop sharing .

How to Present PowerPoint Slides in Google Meet and Still See Participants

With the previous method, once you launch your presentation in slideshow mode, you won’t be able to see your participant’s faces and any actions they take (e.g., hand raise, chats, etc). But if you want to do both, follow these steps.

  • When it’s your turn to present, click the Present now icon.
  • Click Stop sharing or Stop presenting when you're finished.

Feb 19, 2024• Proven solutions

A meeting is never complete without an explanatory PowerPoint presentation! Running a session online can be a daunting task - with the right tools, information, and resources it can be smooth sailing. There are three main video conferencing apps available, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and an app that trumps them all - Google Meet.

Google Meet is a video calling app that comes fully equipped with numerous features, such as screen presenting. If you are looking to perfect your hand on Google Meet, then read through this comprehensive guide on how to present ppt in Google Meet !

  • Part 1: Present PowerPoint Presentations in Google Meet on Laptop
  • Part 2: Present Google Slides in Google Meet on Laptop
  • Part 3: Present PowerPoint or Slides in Google Meet On iPhone and iPad
  • Part 4: Present PowerPoint or Slides in Google Meet on Android
  • Part 5: Stop Presenting PPT on Google Meet

Part 1: How to Present PowerPoint Presentations in Google Meet on Laptop

With remote working on the rise, Google Meet enables users to showcase and share PowerPoint slides during online meetings and sessions. Whether it is a meeting, online class, or brainstorming session, it becomes a whole lot easier with a PowerPoint slideshow - bringing everyone on the same page!

You must be wondering how to share ppt in Google Meet , well the process is fairly simple and extremely functional. You will only need two tools to execute this screen-sharing process, a web browser, and Microsoft PowerPoint. We would advise that you use Google Chrome as your web browser as it works best with Google Meet.

Just a heads up, when you are presenting your screen on Google Meet, everyone can see what you display, so it’s best to open up your PowerPoint slides before joining the meeting so there are no surprises!

  • Open the Microsoft PowerPoint Slides on your laptop, the model or brand of the laptop does not matter, as long as you have Microsoft PowerPoint on it
  • Convert your slides from the default mode to browsed by an individual mode. If you have used Microsoft PowerPoint before, then you must know that in slideshow mode the slides appear in fullscreen making it difficult to switch between applications, therefore by converting the PowerPoint it will be windowed fullscreen, allowing the presenter to switch between applications. The process is simple, just click the “Slide Show” tab, then “Set Up Slide Show”, and from the drop-down menu press “Browsed by an Individual”.

set PowerPoint to individual browse

  • After setting up the PowerPoint slides, move over to Google Meet and join the meeting through the meeting link provided or schedule in a new meeting. You have two options: either you can join the meeting and then share your slides, or share the PowerPoint while joining the session. If you decide to go with the second option, you must click “Present now” and continue with the steps below.
  • To share your Google Meet PPT presentation just click the “Present Now” button on the bottom right-hand side of the screen.

Google Meet Present Now

There you will see two options and must click one of the following options,

  • Your entire screen - if you would like to share your entire screen, this means any application which you see, other participants in the meeting will see as well
  • A window - this allows the presenter to share only one selected window in the meeting (this option is advised)
  • A tab - this is best for presenting a video or animations, not a PowerPoint

Google Meet Present Now Options

  • If the presenter decides to go with the “A Window” option then click the window that shows your PowerPoint slides then select share.

Share PPT on Google Meet

The slideshow will automatically start to broadcast to viewers. We are sure you are not wondering how to present a ppt in Google Meet anymore!

Part 2: Presenting Google Slides in Google Meet on Laptop

In some cases, individuals opt to use Google Slides instead of PowerPoint presentations, but have no fear because Google Meet is equipped to share Google Slides as well. The process is quite similar to that of sharing a PowerPoint, but there are a few changes.

So to answer your question on how to present slide in Google Meet ,

  • Open up your Google Slides, go over to the Google Slides webpage and browse to find the slides you have prepared.

Share slides on Google Meet

  • Open Google Meet on your browser and go on to the meeting link page. Here you have two options, one - you can join the session directly and then start presenting the screen, or two - share the screen and then join the session.

If you decide to go with the latter option, then click the “Present” option. Since I’m using the Chrome browser, I will choose the slides tab to share. If you would like to share any audio, make sure to tick the share tab audio button as well!

Share slides on Google Meet

  • Once you have gone through these steps your Google Slides will automatically be visible to anyone and everyone in the Google Meet session.

Part 3: How to Present PowerPoint or Slides in Google Meet On iPhone and iPad?

Wondering how to present ppt in Google Meet in iPhone ? Well, don’t worry because even with a mobile or tablet you can access all the Google Meet features, even screen share!

Step 1) Open your PowerPoint or Slides on your iPhone or iPad, and then join the Google Meet meeting.

Step 2) To start sharing your screen, press the three-button icon which appears in the bottom right corner of your screen, and then tap the Share Screen option.

Share slides on Google Meet on iPhone

Step 3) After doing so, the presenter will see a notification on their screen allowing them to broadcast their entire screen. Upon clicking “Start Broadcast” the screen will start to share in three seconds. Switch from Google Meet to PowerPoint or Google Slides and the screen will automatically share slides.

To be sure if the screen is being shared check the top of the iPhone or iPad and if there is a red stripe, it means the screen is being broadcasted to participants. Moreover, do not worry while switching apps, you will still be in the Google Meet session even if you go onto PowerPoint or Google Slides while sharing your screen on a mobile or tablet device.

Part 4: Presenting PowerPoint or Slides in Google Meet on Android

The process of presenting a PowerPoint or Google Slides during a Google Meet session on an android is very similar to that of an Apple device.

Step 1) You must open up your PowerPoint or Slides beforehand, while this is not necessary, it always makes the process more simple.

Step 2) Join into the Google Meet session, if you have been invited into the session then join using the joining link, if not then create a new meeting. If you would rather directly screen share instead of joining into the session first, then click the “Share Screen” option directly.

Step 3) Upon joining the meeting, click the “More” option and tap the “Present Screen” menu.

Share slides on Google Meet on Android

Step 4) After that, allow presenting and go to your PowerPoint / Google Slides to share them with participants, easy right?! Remember, participants can pause your screen presentation and start presenting their screen in between, as well.

Part 5: How to Stop Presenting PPT on Google Meet?

All good things must come to an end, just like wrapping up a productive PowerPoint work session on Google Meet. When a presenter is done sharing their PowerPoint slides they must stop sharing their screen as well. One easy way to do that is to leave the Google Meet session, however, that might not be so polite.

Instead, there is another way, upon finishing the discussion on the PowerPoint slides, click the stop presenting button which automatically appears on the bottom of the screen you are sharing.

stop PPT sharing on Google Meet

If that option is not visible to the presenter, they can return to their Google Meet session, and click the stop sharing button as shown in the image below.

Moreover, if you are on an iPhone or iPad, you can simply click the red stripe on the top of your screen and a notification popup will appear indicating that you can stop presenting.

FAQ about Presenting PowerPoint on Google Meet

  • Can others see you while you are presenting a PPT?

Address common queries on how to present PowerPoint in a Google Meet session ensuring engaging and impactful virtual presentations.

Here’s an example of how you can present a PowerPoint, in a Google Meet session;

Lets say John is a project manager who needs to give his team members a quarterly project update via a Google Meet video conference. He has prepared a PowerPoint presentation that he wants to show the team during the meeting.

Make sure you have your PowerPoint presentation all set up and ready to show to your friends in the meeting.

Prepare Your Powerpoint Ready:

Step 2. Join the Google Meet:

Log in to Google Meet (ask a grown-up for help if needed) and join the meeting where you want to show your presentation.

Launch A Browser And Navigate To Google Meet.

Step 3. Request to Share Your Screen:

When the meeting is underway, search for a button that says “Present” or “Share Screen.” Typically, it resembles a computer screen or a square with an arrow in it. Just click it.

Request To Share Your Screen:

Step 4. Select What to Share:

An additional window will open. It will inquire as to what you wish to display. If your PowerPoint is open in a web browser, you can choose to display the entire screen, simply the PowerPoint window, or a specific tab. Decide which has your PowerPoint.

Select What To Share:

Discuss Your Slides:

Step 7. Stop Sharing When You’re Done:

Search for a button that says “Stop Sharing” or something similar after you end your presentation. To stop showing your PowerPoint, click on it

Stop Sharing When You'Re Done:

Sharing your PowerPoint slides during a meeting or presentation using Google Meet is a way to captivate your audience. While direct integration, between Google Meet and PowerPoint is not available you can easily share your slides by utilizing screen sharing features.

If you’re going to have business meetings teach classes or give webinars these techniques can assist you in presenting your content.

To make sure your presentation goes smoothly get ready ahead of time by optimizing your PowerPoint practicing how you deliver it and getting to know the screen sharing features of Google Meet.

While Google Meet doesn’t have integration for PowerPoint you can still share your presentation by displaying your screen or a specific application window during the meeting.

 Follow these steps to present a PowerPoint, in Google Meet;

  • Join the Google Meet session.
  • Click on the “Present button located at the bottom of the screen.

3; Select either “Your screen” or the specific application window that displays your PowerPoint presentation.

4; Simply click on the “Share” button.

When you choose to share your entire screen all participants will be able to see everything displayed on your screen including any open applications like PowerPoint. On the hand when you opt to share an application window only that particular window will be visible to participants.

To ensure a smooth presentation experience;

. Close any applications and browser tabs to minimize distractions.

. Make sure you are connected to an internet connection for screen sharing.

. Prioritize practicing beforehand so that you become familiar with the process of screen sharing and navigating through your slides.

When you share your screen during a presentation certain presenter mode features like speaker notes and presentation view won’t be visible to participants. If needed consider using a device or monitor specifically for accessing your notes.

Before commencing your presentation activate the “Do not disturb” or “Presentation mode” setting on your computer in order to minimize any notifications or interruptions that may arise during the session.

7. Are participants able to see and engage with the PowerPoint slides while the presentation is ongoing?

Participants have the ability to view the PowerPoint slides as you navigate through them although direct interaction, with the slides is generally not permitted. However they can ask questions. Offer feedback, through chat or Q&A channels.

To switch between the PowerPoint presentation and the Google Meet interface you can use “Alt + Tab” on Windows or “Command + Tab” on Mac to toggle between applications. Alternatively you can click on the icons of the applications located on your taskbar or dock.

Absolutely! You can share a PowerPoint presentation with all its animations and transitions. When you share your screen participants will be able to see your PowerPoint as you navigate through it including any animations or smooth transitions that you’ve included.

There are no size limitations imposed by Google Meet for sharing PowerPoint files. However it’s worth considering the internet bandwidth of your participants as larger files may take longer to load and display properly.

5 Free Alternatives To Microsoft PowerPoint

Team sharing a laptop

Microsoft PowerPoint has always been the default choice for creating professional meeting briefs or fun little project demonstrations in schools. Its inclusion as a free service for students or working professionals makes it a no-brainer to use. However, for the general public, it can get quite expensive to pay for a subscription just to be able to create simple presentation slides. Although you can subscribe to Microsoft's Office Suite and get more bang for your buck, the pricing still doesn't hit the affordable range for most.

Fortunately, completion has been growing, and a sea of strong contenders offer similar services to PowerPoint. After considering feature sets, here are five of the best free alternatives to Microsoft PowerPoint. At the end of the article, you can find a detailed explanation of why we've chosen the services, alongside useful comparisons that may help you make your decision easier.

When it comes to productivity apps, Zoho makes some of the better ones in the market. Zoho Sheet, for example, is one of the best Microsoft Excel alternatives out there  —  owing to its extensive product catalog, there is a great way to view and edit presentations. The aptly named Zoho Show lets you design and demonstrate professional-looking slides, all without having to download the program.

Zoho takes a minimal approach to most of its services, and its PowerPoint application is no different. You'll find that most menus are contextually aware of what tasks you're currently performing, which helps keep unnecessary tools out of the way and bring the important ones in focus. There is also a huge library of customizable templates you can choose from, making it easier to kickstart your presentation work.

Zoho Show is completely free to use for individuals and offers unlimited cloud storage. No features are locked behind a paywall, and rest assured, you can fully rely on this online presentation-making tool for all your needs, be it for school or work.

Canva is a service that can easily climb up to becoming everyone's favorite once they start using it. While most applaud it for its graphic designing prowess, there are many other things Canva can do that you probably aren't aware of . Among them is the ability to craft beautiful slides for your presentations and projects.

By creating a free account, you can access thousands of templates on Canva. You can filter these by use case—maybe you need one for a professional business briefing or a casual one explaining why your pet dog is the best canine. There is a whole section of ready-to-use templates dedicated to mobile-friendly viewing as well, which is something you don't usually find to be as accessible with other tools.

Like most presentation apps, Canva lets you collaborate with your team members and work across devices seamlessly. The Canva app for mobile also lets you control your slides remotely during your presentation. Some menus also feature AI-featured tools to add one-click enhancements to your slides — unfortunately, these are locked behind premium subscription tiers. However, for the cent percent of the population, Canva can be used without spending a dime to meet a plethora of creative needs.

Apple takes great pride in developing in-house solutions to meet every user requirement. While most of its products dominate the competition in popularity, the same cannot be said for Keynote , the company's version of Microsoft PowerPoint. The program was first released in 2003 with macOS Big Sur and has largely remained one of those icons you glance over and forget about.

However, recent versions of Keynote have made it a compelling alternative to PowerPoint. Not only is it pre-installed on every Apple device, including your iPhone, but it also works best with the iPad touchscreen. Keynote has a largely clean and professional approach to the built-in templates, but nothing is stopping you from going creative. Animations are one of Keynote's strongest suits, allowing you to create near cinematic-looking presentations with just a few clicks.

While you can still use Apple Keynote through iCloud on Windows devices, this alternative is clearly meant for people surrounded by the walled garden of Apple technology. It makes use of features like AirDrop, Live Photos, and VoiceOver  — all of which are technologies available across Apple devices. Using Apple Keynote is completely free, and the app has easy exporting tools that make working with Microsoft PowerPoint less of a hassle.

WPS Presentation

WPS Office makes some of the best solutions for creating and editing documents on smartphones , but their service offerings extend to Windows, macOS, and even Linux. WPS Presentation is perhaps the closest you'll get to Microsoft PowerPoint in terms of the user interface and how most tools are bundled in familiar locations.

This PowerPoint app offers real-time collaboration where you can invite your team members and work on the same document remotely. Like most collaboration tools, users can leave comments to suggest changes or add information for other people on the team.

WPS Presentation is not the only free product; you can utilize every app in the WPS Office suite. Unlike most competitors, you don't need to download or use a separate mini-app to make presentations. WPS Office has a document editor, PowerPoint creator, spreadsheet manager, and other tools all within its umbrella. Premium plans for this service exist, but they mostly cater to unlocking features for editing PDFs.

Google Slides

As a netizen, you most likely already have a Google account. Not only is it required to make any meaningful use of your Android phone, but popular services that we take for granted, like Gmail and Drive, all fall under Google's umbrella. One such free service that the tech giant has at its disposal is Google Slides . While the barebones UI might seem lackluster at first, Slides has nearly the same level of functionality as Microsoft PowerPoint and can even be supercharged by add-ons.

All of Google's workspace apps, such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides, provide an intuitive way to work in a team. You can add comments, use annotations, and share the presentation with limited access to others. You can use one of the many predesigned Google Slides templates for simple presentations , or browse for templates that cater to specific needs. Being part of a bigger service catalog has its obvious advantages, such as seamless integration with Google Meet, Gmail, and other products from Google that you already use.

We recommend Google Slides to anyone who needs to create and edit PowerPoint presentations on the go and can't be bothered with working in a complicated environment. The service is also available as an app for Android and iOS, and you can export your presentations in a wide range of formats, including PPT, PDF, or PNG for individual slides.

To pay or not to pay?

You'll notice that all the services we've mentioned on this list are free to use. In fact, you can use Office 365 apps online for free   — including PowerPoint, which makes purchasing a standalone subscription to the Microsoft PowerPoint app quite redundant. However, nearly every free alternative here short of Keynote also offers premium plans, but should you consider buying one?

For the vast majority of people who are looking for a robust software to create, edit, and share presentations with  —  these free options deliver exceptionally well in every aspect. Some apps like Google Slides and Apple Keynote let you work in smaller teams with the free tier as well. Apps like WPS Office and Canva tend to lock new and exciting features like AI tools behind a paywall, and while these are nice to have, you definitely can do without them.

If you're looking for a presentation tool for a company with multiple people, you can scale up using any of the alternatives mentioned on this list. Both Google Workspace and Zoho offer reliable and enterprise-level plans you can upgrade to. For everyone else  — enjoy creating and demonstrating your PowerPoint presentations for free.

Google Slides: How to autoplay your presentation

G oogle Slides has several tools, such as audience Q&A, speaker notes, digital pen, and more, to deliver a flawless presentation to your audience. Autoplay is a handy add-on that paces your presentation without manual clicks. When you want your slides to appear for the same amount of time, turn on the option, select a duration, and fly through your PPT. Whether you created a presentation from scratch or used one of the top templates , check the guide below to autoplay Google Slides.

Autoplay on Google Slides is available via the web version on the desktop, Mac, and top Chromebooks . Mobile and tablet users must use hacks to enable autoplay on their presentations.

Autoplay and loop your Google Slides presentation

We'll start by turning on autoplay during the presentation and move to other tricks, like switching on video autoplay and more. Follow the steps below to tweak your Google Slides presentation.

  • Open your presentation in Google Slides.
  • Click the down arrow button beside Slideshow and select Presenter view or Start from beginning .
  • If you select Presenter view , a web window displays a timer, speaker notes, and audience tools. Click Start from beginning to show your presentation in full-screen view.
  • Hover your cursor in the lower-left corner to find a small toolbar.
  • Click the three-dot menu and expand Auto-play .
  • Select a relevant timeframe. You can select up to a minute to enable autoplay in Google Slides. You can't assign a specific duration. Instead, choose one of the pre-defined durations.
  • Click Loop to keep your presentation running for the event or function. Select Play .

Google Slides autoplays the presentation until the last slide. Use the Loop option to keep running media files in the background throughout the event. It's useful when presenting a tour package, residential or commercial property, or graphics-heavy PPT to the audience.

If you want to expand on a specific slide, click it and stop the slideshow. To resume autoplay, move to the Presenter toolbar and select a timeframe.

What's the difference between Google Slides templates and themes?

Enable google slides autoplay when publishing to the web.

Do you plan to embed your Slides presentation on a website? You can activate autoplay and loop from the publish settings in Google Slides. Your presentation should behave the same way as you intended on the web.

  • Open a relevant presentation in Google Slides.
  • After creating all the slides and making the relevant changes, click File at the top and expand the Share menu.
  • Select Publish to the web .
  • By default, it auto-advanced slides every three seconds. Click the same menu to increase or decrease the time duration.
  • To loop a slideshow, click the checkmark beside Restart the slideshow after the last slide .
  • Click Publish to generate and copy the link. You can share the link via email and other social media platforms.

From now on, your slideshow launches in the web browser when someone clicks your shared link. You can stop publishing from the same menu.

Set up Google Slides autoplay on iPhone, Android, and iPad

Although Google Slides mobile and tablet apps are feature-rich, they don't offer an option to enable autoplay during a presentation. You'll rely on a hack to enable the functionality. Follow the steps below to make changes.

  • Generate a sharable Google Slides presentation link and send it to yourself via email or another method (refer to the steps above).
  • Move to your phone and tap the link to open it in the default browser.
  • Find the toolbar at the bottom and tap the three-dot menu .
  • Expand autoplay and pick a duration.
  • Tap the presentation to start autoplay. Close

The trick above also works on Android tablets and iPads.

Tip: Autoplay your videos in Google Slides

Did you embed a video in one of the slides in your presentation? You can autoplay the added video using the steps below.

  • Go to a relevant slide in Google Slides and find your integrated video.
  • Right-click a video and select Format options .
  • Expand Video playback and expand the drop-down menu.
  • Select Play (automatically), and you are good to go.

Engage with your audience during a presentation

After adding autoplay duration to Google Slides, pace your presentation accordingly. You may need to rehearse several times to get your timing perfect with the slideshow. If your presentation feels bland, add a relevant audio clip to keep your audience engaged.

What are you waiting for? Drop your usual manual method to switch between slides, enable autoplay, and deliver your presentation in style.

Google Phone might be making it super easy to switch to a Meet video call

If the other person isn't on Meet, you'll see an option to invite them.

google phone app listing on the play store

What you need to know

  • Google is testing a feature in the Phone app that allows users to effortlessly switch from a regular phone call to a Google Meet video call.
  • Some users have noticed a new "Video call" chip in the Phone app during regular calls, showing up above the keypad, mute, speaker, and other options.
  • Tapping the button initiates a Meet video call without interrupting the ongoing voice call.

Google has been spotted trying out a fresh feature in the Phone app, which lets you switch super easily from a regular call to a Google Meet video call with a single tap.

A few users are seeing a fresh Video call chip in the Phone app when they are on a regular call, as spotted by Android Police . This new button pops up above the keypad, mute, speaker, and other options.

If you tap that chip, it initiates a Google Meet video call with the person you're chatting with. Their phone rings, but the voice call keeps going, making switching a lot smoother than before.

This suggests that Google Meet is making a move to be more than just a business tool. With this potential feature in the Phone app, it seems Meet wants to be a bigger part of our everyday mobile chats.

For a while, iPhone users had it easy with FaceTime right in their dialer. Soon, Android users might get a taste of that too , as video calling gets seamlessly integrated into the Phone app.

If the person you're trying to call doesn't have the Meet app installed, tapping the chip whisks you to a screen suggesting you invite them to hop on Google Meet for video chat .

Some users have seen this feature on version 125.0.613053162-publicbeta-pixel2023 and also on 124.0.608164421-publicbeta, as per Android Police. Since it's showing up on different app versions, it seems like this feature might be a server-side tweak.

So far, this functionality has only been seen on Pixel phones. But since the Google Phone app isn't exclusive, there's a chance it could make its way to other devices in the future.

Not everyone is getting access to this new trick just yet. It seems like it's on its way, but it might take a little time before it reaches everyone.
