This article will show you how to create a conceptual framework for the capstone project titled Library System. The input, process, output (IPO) model was used to create the conceptual foundation for this investigation.

Libraries serve as one source of knowledge that provides numerous resources such as books, articles, journals, and many more. A librarian is a person in charge of a library, who is in charge of many parts of the library, such as information about books, magazines, and other library items. Information regarding its clients or borrowers must also be kept up to date and well-organized by the librarian. The capstone project, entitled “Library System” is designed to automate the management of libraries. The said initiative will empower libraries with smart means to operate and transact automated with library users. The said project will allow librarians to electronically manage information about books, magazines, and other library materials as well as records management of library users and borrowers.

Problem Identification – the respondents of this study will be different libraries. There are still libraries that are using the paper and pen approach in managing the records of the library and library users which is prone to a lot of barriers and difficulties.

User Requirement – this is the part where the researchers have gathered information on the specific features of the system. It is very important to consider their ideas since they will be the one to use the library system.

Planning and Preparation – this is the part where the researchers will prepare the timeline and scheduled of activities for the entire project.

Identify the features of the system – this stage of the process cycle is where the researchers enumerate the list of features to be included in the system based on the specified requirements needed by the end-users.

Screen layout – the researchers created a wireframe for every features and form design as well. User Interface of the project is the output for this part.

ERD – entity relationship diagram represents the structural data model of the project.

Database Design – the ERD will be converted into the actual database that will be used in the project, in this case the ERD will be converted into a sql database.

Programming/Coding – this is the project comes into life, the project will be developed in PHP, MySQL and Bootstrap.

Testing – the project needs to be tested before it will be implemented with live data and information.

This process, known as library automation, enables libraries to more efficiently manage their collections and staff, as well as provide patrons with new and innovative ways to access library materials.

Automating libraries often starts with the creation of customized catalogs for each library collection using hardware and software. Using this method, librarians may locate each item in a collection as well as identify it within the library. Librarians can then quickly find particular materials thanks to automated shelving.

The development of systems that enable librarians to more effectively manage their own workflows is the primary goal of the last stage of library automation. The creation of automated workstations and software that make administrative jobs easier for librarians is a part of this process. Libraries are also able to monitor their own efforts and advancement thanks to automated shelving and database management solutions.

Deployment and Implementation of Library System – the design of the implementation is parallel, which means that the current manual method will still be in use while the system is also up and running. The purpose of the parallel method is to compare the results of the manual to the result of the database system. Eventually the manual process will be abandoned, and the full implementation of the system will take place.

The application will aid in the improvement of library services. Libraries will be more efficient in serving the demands of their users if they use the application.

Libraries can now catalog and index all of the resources they own thanks to library automation. Users can now quickly and simply retrieve whatever information they require. Libraries can now offer online databases and resources that are searchable from anywhere in the world thanks to automation. This improves users’ access to and convenience with library resources.

The use and accessibility of libraries have been significantly impacted by the automation of library systems. Before automation, most people used libraries by personally visiting them and browsing the shelves for the needed material. The search for the requested item took a long time and was frequently very difficult. This procedure has been made considerably simpler by the automation of library systems.

The capstone project, entitled “Library System” is designed to automate the management of libraries. The said initiative will empower libraries with smart means to operate and transact automated with library users. This article focused on the development of the study’s conceptual framework. The researchers used the output, process, input (IPO) model plus they also defined the outcome and the impact of the project. The input phase is consists of Problem Identification, User Requirement, Literature Review and Planning and preparation. The process phase involves steps such as identifying the features of the system, Screen layout, ERD, Use Case, Database Design, Programming/Coding and Testing of the program. After the development the project will be then deployed and implemented. As stated in the conceptual framework the study will have 2 possible outcomes such as digitally revolutionize the libraries’ whole operation and centralize books and other library resource information. Overall, the application will aid in the improvement of library services. Libraries will be more efficient in serving the demands of their users if they use the application.

Libraries are designed to give people a place where they can read books in a convenient way. By which we mean, when people are in the library they are given a variety of choices. PDF not hindering people from reading books, not hobby per say but a necessity as well to read a particular book without going to a library. Through this observation, the researchers came up with the idea of developing and implementing a system where in people can read books where ever they may be through the use of internet. The proposed system will serve the user in many ways through a speedy and dependable system.

We the researchers chose our school, CLC College of Tactical to be the respondent of this proposed project. The researchers do not mean to abolish or replace the library of the school because that is not possible, instead the group wants to enhance the management of the books in the library, suffice the lacking books and increase the student's productivity. It is more likely that the group will be creating a library inside a computer therefore the process will still be the same, putting the same categories and grouping the books as to which the book will fall on to such as history, literature, fiction, etc.

Books have their unique code that serves as its identity using the Dewey chemical system; the books are stored in the database through the use of the said code, its title of course, author and category. The librarian who logs in as the admit will upload this "eBooks" and "PDF", keep records on borrowed and returned books, keep track on the status of books, place books in a reserve list if need be. Since books are still available in the library, students who borrow or return the books shall have records, the librarian inputs the code of the book and at the same time it appears to the student's profile.

Hence the librarian will update the status of the book. There is another user, the students who logs on as a user, but before they log in the have to register first and input the details required. After they register, the students can now read books online. Project Rationale It has been observed that the users and operators anticipate for future development thinking that technology marks the end of manual operations.

At the library of CLC College, manual procedures are still followed, thus the researcher proposed to automate the process in order to reduce human errors to eventually increase the productivity of both the librarian and the student. The researchers planned to develop an online library management system they believe would ease the work and improve the library management. It will certainly reduce stress, consumption of time, money and effort. Human errors will be lessened and users, either students or librarians will enjoy a more carefree environment making the said system highly recommended.

Basically, the librarian and the students will benefit from this project. To the librarian of the school, she will be greatly benefited with this Online Library Management System because she will no longer need to manually process every ants to read the desired book. All she got to do is to add the book and its other details such as book title, book author, etc. And it will be saved to the system's database. To the students, they will have a more convenient time in reading books without going to the library to borrow or read books. Instead, they access the website and browse for the desired book.

Personal/Professional Expectations This project would be of great help with regards to preparing ourselves to what comes in the near future, after college, "what's next? ". Through the creation of this reject each of the members of the group shall learn how to work hand in hand, trust one another and establish a good communication among themselves. The group hopes to gain those values and use them when they become professionals. The project shall provide the researchers huge experience on how work is really done when they face the "real world" out there. Thus, they can now apply the experiences gained during the study and use them.

And to the recipient of the project, the group hopes that the project will be of great use to them. And if so, the group then may gain relief and success. Ultimately, we are hoping that the project will come out as planned and work as it is designed to for it will determine if we are ready to do such on our own. Research Prior to the proposed system many have already conducted this kind of project. What the researchers did was they try to add more features to the existing research so that it may serve other purposes. During the gathering of data the group came across to an existing project where they used Visual Basic to create the program.

The system was more of an inventory. Now, we the researchers have proposed, why not cake the system available online where students can read and at the same time the librarian as the admit, she can also manage the library inside the system. Similar to what the existing project where the librarian inputs her transaction to the computer, the proposed system also applies the same process but they have added books to be read on the system making an online library. Project Goals The project must be consistent. The group will see to it that the project shall provide library functions and services to the students or faculty members of the school.

No need to carry heavy and bulky books, with Just the use of their Smartness, tablets, and laptop it will be hustle free. It is designed for the convenience of the management on keeping track and storing information. The proposed system will serve the user in many ways through a speedy and dependable system.

Proposed system is Online Library Management System. Through our software the librarian can add books, search books, update information, edit information, and manage the borrowing and returning of books in quick time and for the students, they can read books online and or reserve them if need be. 1. 1 Project Context The capstone project entitled "The Online Library Management System of CLC College" is a web based system which emphasizes on helping the library of CLC College enhance its management and help its students by automating the manual process.

Through the implementation of this project, we the researchers believe that this yester will be of great value to both the librarian and the students. The researchers' aims to offer a solution to the problems regarding library procedures such as the borrowing and returning of books, suffice lacking books by upload eBooks, furthermore to provide a user-friendly system for their ease and comfort. This project started last November 2014 and is expected to be done by the end of March 2015. 1. Purpose and Description The project entitled "Online Library Management of CLC College Tactical" is meant to develop a web based management system to automate the activities of the library. The school could be known as one of the schools in Region VIII using an Online Library System establishing a good image to the future college students or transferees. The researchers are benefited in this study as well mainly for having to develop employability skills, implement a career plan, and sharpen each skill and participate in career pathway with regards to the preparation for the researchers' future in the industry. To the Future Researchers. The information in this study is precise and accurate making it a good source or reference for the upcoming researchers of the future conducting similar studies. 1. Objectives The Online Library Management System of CLC College Tactician's main objective is to provide library functions and services to students or faculty members of the school. Another is to allow a faster and more accurate processing of data to reduce the librarian's work. Necessary book information must be presented well and organized to add user friendliness to its users. Access to the system must be easy UT must not compromise the system's security. This project aims to: Develop a web-based system that has a user friendly environment.

Easy access of information such as borrower's information, status of books, reserved books and book list. Develop a web-based system that is available for 24 hours. 1. 4 Scope and Limitations The researchers had to know the current Library Management System of CLC College, determine easier ways to improve the current system and develop an of the librarian. The proposed study is about the development of Online Library Management System of CLC College.

The system has the capability to upload, manage and view eBooks online, secure the eBooks and make sure that it can only be viewed and not downloaded by any unauthorized guest or client. A search index is also added for the users to easily track the available e-books. With this system the librarian and other personnel in-charge of the library will have a less stress in work and the clients or students can read eBooks anywhere. Login account for different users will be created for database security purpose.

The users that can access the system are the librarian, working students in the library and students of the institution. The system will have a database that can able to upload eBooks, modifying and deleting eBooks. The system can able to upload eBooks in PDF format. On the other hand the system limits guest, guests can only browse books but cannot access staff or student information pages as well as perform administrative tasks like manipulating book records. Chapter II Review of Related Literature and Systems This chapter includes the purpose of the review of the related literature and tidies.

For the Information Management System capstone you work with an international team of professionals to select an enterprise-scale business problem and develop a digital technology solution.  You work in a team to research current trends, identify a problem, plan a solution, and present a proposal to an assembled faculty panel.

The project requirements differ slightly between the two IMS capstone courses currently offered. ISMT E-599 focuses on the Digital Enterprise, while ISMT E-599a concentrates on Information Management. Both are taught in a similar format but explore different subject matters. Course Sequencing

You ordinarily take the capstone as your final, one and only remaning degree requirement. At a minimum, you need to have completed at least 36 credits, including all the core degree requirements, to be eligible for capstone. The capstone is offered online with a mandatory weekend on campus during the fall and spring term. In summer, the capstone is offered as an on-campus course during the intensive, seven-week session.

A Library Management System (LMS) is a software program that facilitates the management of books and other resources in a library. In this project, the focus is on developing an LMS that can be used by a school or college library. The LMS will have information about the books in the library, the students who can borrow the books, and the transactions related to borrowing and returning books.

The books in the library are identified by their International Standard Book Number (IBAN), which is a unique identifier assigned to each book. The LMS will store information about each book, such as its name, author, edition, publisher, publishing year, price, and quantity. The quantity field will indicate how many copies of the book are available in the library. When a student borrows a book, the quantity field will be decremented by one, and when a book is returned, the quantity field will be incremented by one.

The students who can borrow books from the library are identified by their roll number, which is a numeric identifier assigned to each student. The LMS will store information about each student, such as their roll number, gender, and age. When a student borrows a book, their roll number will be associated with the book in the LMS, and when they return the book, the association will be removed.

The LMS will have a menu-based interface that allows the librarian to perform various operations related to book and student management. The librarian will be able to issue a book to a student by selecting the book from the list of available books and entering the student's roll number. If the quantity of the book is zero, the librarian will not be able to issue the book. The LMS will ensure that at least one copy of the book is available in the library at all times.

The librarian will also be able to receive returned books from students by selecting the book from the list of borrowed books and entering the student's roll number. The LMS will update the quantity field of the book and remove the association between the book and the student.

The LMS will provide a feature to display all the details of the books sorted by IBAN. This feature will allow the librarian to view the information about all the books in the library in a structured manner.

The LMS will also provide a feature to display all the details of the students sorted by age. This feature will allow the librarian to view the information about all the students in the library in a structured manner and identify the students who are eligible to borrow books based on their age.

In summary, the Library Management System project will provide an efficient way to manage the resources of a school or college library. The system will ensure that the library has a sufficient quantity of books at all times and will help the librarian to manage the borrowing and returning of books by students. The system will also provide a structured view of the information about the books and students in the library.

What is a capstone project?

The capstone project has become an integral part of the university degree curriculum. It can take many various forms, but its purpose remains the same. The capstone project is a unique opportunity to carry out independent group research in order to devise an innovative solution for a real-world problem. While a project of this scope and scale can be challenging, it can also be very rewarding.

The capstone project is usually the final assignment and plays a vital role in preparing students for the world of work thanks to its practical applications and ability to help hone students’ professional knowledge and skills.

At York University in Toronto, Canada, things are a little different. In 2019, the university revised the traditional capstone project and created C4: Cross-Campus Capstone Classroom . While it still possesses the fundamentals of the traditional capstone project, C4 is a new, year-long initiative that brings students together from various degree programmes to work in interdisciplinary teams with faculty and project partners on real-world challenges pitched by non-profit organisations, start-ups and businesses to create social impact. 

TopUniversities spoke to Megan Tran and Javeria Mirza, two students at York University, to find out about their capstone project and why they feel it has played an important role in not just their academic development, but their professional development as well.

What is the Purpose of a Capstone Project?

1. it prepares you for the working world.

The capstone project is designed to consolidate final-year students’ learning with valuable hands-on experience to help develop them into well-prepared and well-rounded graduates.

Students work together in small groups to come up with innovative solutions for real-life problems, all while gaining valuable insights into the demands and responsibilities of the working world. This gives students a chance to bring their leadership and management skills alive and understand the consequences of their decisions in a ‘safe space’.

C4 gives students an insight into global affairs, international relations as well as social corporate responsibility and sustainability. 

Final-year bachelor’s in international studies student Megan and master’s in political science student Javeria were two of the eight interdisciplinary students, from the Faculty of Environmental Studies, the Lassonde School of Engineering, Glendon College, and the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University who worked together on the ‘Solar Floatie’ project.

“As a group, we were all interested in using technology and design-thinking for good. Our collective passion for social impact brought us together as a team. CooperLab at York University led by Professor Thomas Cooper was already spearheading the idea of an inflatable solar collector,” said Javeria.

“But how we went about developing the technology and what we wanted to use it for was up to us,” added Megan.

“ The Solar Floatie was born when the engineering side of the solar collector project was merged with the anthropology side and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) framework to propose a sustainable implementation model,” explained Javeria.

2. It helps build your CV and help you stand out as a candidate 

Undertaking a capstone project demonstrates to prospective employers that you’re more than just a potential candidate with the necessary academic qualifications. It shows your dedication to an issue which demands time and effort, as well as strict professionalism, work ethic and experience working in a practical, hands-on setting.

3. It offers valuable practical experience – something many graduates do not have

As a graduate, the reality of securing a job can be difficult as many roles demand practical experience. Many graduates are conceptually strong and suitable candidates, but a lack of applied knowledge in practical settings can make it challenging to demonstrate such experience and skills on their CV or in an interview.

The capstone project is a great solution and is something which both Megan and Javeria felt helped bridge that critical gap and has given them a competitive advantage as young professionals.

“It gave me an opportunity to learn outside a traditional academic setting and allowed me to explore my interest in sustainability and passion for social impact,” said Megan. “Since being a part of this project, I’ve been involved with a variety of organisations carrying out work that align with these passions.”

Javeria echoes Megan’s sentiments.

She said: “Bridging the lessons learnt during the capstone project such as the value of continuously learning, taking initiative, and working effectively with people from diverse disciplinary backgrounds has been invaluable in both my UN work and my graduate studies.”

4. It hones on specific skills that are highly valued by employers

The capstone project encompasses a real-life working culture which aims to instil a set of specific skills that are both highly valued by employers and will ultimately serve students well into their careers.

York University’s C4 focuses on the development of a wide range of skills, including creative, critical, and strategic thinking, effective communication, teamwork, problem solving and research analysis through diverse learning approaches and perspectives. Students deepen their sense of social and ethical responsibilities as they learn to mobilise their knowledge across disciplines and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams while engaging professionally with their peers and professors.

Abstract A Capstone is a project carried out by final year students usually before graduating or completing a course of study. In Ashesi University, a capstone project can either be a thesis, an applied, or an entrepreneurship project. The absence of a centralized system often results in a constant back and forth between students and faculty members. While the current method of operation works, it involves an appreciable amount of paperwork, which is an ineffective way to handle data. A possible solution presented in this paper is a capstone management system that holds the ability to streamline the entire capstone process between students and faculty members. An essential feature discussed is a feature that makes capstone-worthy projects available to all students. This is especially beneficial to students with little to no idea of projects to pursue.

Once you create your student account, you can establish candidacy in a certificate or specialization program any time during your studies.

The benefits of enrolling early

To complete a program, you must enroll in the certificate program before enrolling in the Certificate Completion Review.

You have five years to complete all necessary courses in a certificate program or three years to finish up a specialization program.

All the necessary units in a certificate must be completed within this window.* The clock begins on the first day of your first course in the certificate program. For example, if you started a course on Sept. 5, 2017, you would have to complete all of the required units in this certificate by Sept. 4, 2022.

Enrolling in a certificate program does not trigger the beginning of the five-year window. It begins the first day of the first course that applies to a certificate program. The Certificate Completion Review process does not have to occur within the five-year timeframe.

* Students participating in a special program, such as workforce, international, Personal Financial Planning, or curriculum partner programs (such as GreenFig or CLS by Barbri) may have a shorter completion requirement.

Grade Requirements

Please note that only letter grades of C or higher may be applied to a certificate, and in some programs, students may have more stringent requirements. Students in most employer- and government-sponsored payment programs, such as workforce development, as well as international students on F-1 visas, need to maintain a B average to meet their requirements. Personal Financial Planning students have additional grade requirements for individual courses to attain a certificate.

Placed geographically directly above Mexico, Texas is a major hotspot for exchanges in culture, money and immigration. Even though Mexico is 300 miles away, students and faculty at the Texas A&M Bush School have found a way to bring the state of Oaxaca a bit closer to Aggieland. 

The Bush School of Government and Public Service’s Master of Public Service and Administration capstone program, or MPSA, will hold its second-year artisan collective with Zapotec artisanal group DAVA on March 21 at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center. The program plans not only to sell shoes adorned with cultural handmade designs but to share the hidden knowledge of rural and indigenous groups in our neighboring country. 

Bush School professor and project advisor William A. Brown said that last year’s project ran as a pilot, testing out different ideas and ways to further the project. As a part of the new direction the capstone is heading, Brown said the students and coordinators took the opportunity to travel to Oaxaca and visit the artisanal group firsthand. 

“This is the first time we went abroad,” Brown said. “When we got back, we got more motivated to try to be able to make the market experience beneficial for the artisans. I think we were last year as well. It just became really apparent that these are really interesting, capable, folks from a different part of the world and we’re really privileged to be able to post them up here.”

Public service and administration graduate Jaclyn McJunkin said when it came to understanding the rich culture of the Zapotec people, they took considerate measures in cultural exchange, cultural awareness training and in-depth research on cultural sensitivity. After the application of intensive cultural analysis, McJunkin said she found a new level of appreciation in Zapotec culture. 

“We've learned that these ancient indigenous cultures have been around for millennia,” McJunkin said. “They were so well established. They had sociopolitical hierarchies, they had entire cultural makeups and we are honored that these people that we have the privilege of working with now have those bloodlines and should be respected and treated as such.”

In close association with DAVA, cofounders of Tejiendo Alianzas program director Sarahi Garcia and general director Richard Hanson said the program and artisanal shop goes further than just the selling of shoes, but also tells a story. Aside from just money and culture, immigration is one major factor in the connection between Texas and Mexico, Hanson said.  

“Something that links the two sides [of the border] is the question of immigration,” Hanson said. “Texas obviously receives those immigrants and Oaxaca sends immigrants. A lot of people in Texas and the United States in general know immigrants in one way or another and the story [of those immigrants] perhaps are not told. [With DAVA], a lot can be said over the importance of their business as a source of employment in order to reduce the pressure to immigrate.”

Garcia said the shop not only opens up a conversation on what it means to be an immigrant worker, but also an indigenous woman worker from a foreign country who helps sustain her business through her culture and heritage. Coming to the United States has let a new perspective open up when it comes to the introspection of identity and practice, Garcia said. 

“It’s always good to enter another space, another place,” Garcia said. “Sharing our experiences as indigenous and receiving that amazement that [Americans] have for our own way of life, our worldview. There are people who value what we have very much and sometimes, because it is so abundant, we [as Oaxacans] tend to forget [our importance] in a certain way.”
