“Golden Eggs”

Long time ago a remote village, in central China was inhabited mainly with farmers and hunters. One day, a poor farmer lost his entire livestock to flood. He prayed hard to God for help or his family would die of starvation. Few days later, an old man with long grey beard, passed by his house took pity on him. He gave him a goose and said “I don’t have any expensive thing to give you and hope this goose will help you to ease your hardship.”

A week later to almost surprise the farmer found an egg in his yard. This was no ordinary egg. It was a golden egg. He was suddenly overcome with joy. Thereafter, his livelihood had rapidly improved but the farmer had forgotten his earlier hardship.

THREE FISH         

Three fish lived in a pond. One evening, some fishermen passed by the pond and saw the fish. ‘This pond is full of fish’, they told each other excitedly. ‘we have never fished here before. We must come back tomorrow morning with our nets and catch these fish!’ So saying, the fishermen left.

When the eldest of the three fish heard this, he was troubled. He called the other fish together and said, ‘Did you hear what the fishermen said? We must leave this pond at once. The fishermen will return tomorrow and kill us all!’ The second of the three fish agreed. ‘You are right’, he said. ‘We must leave the pond.’

But the youngest fish laughed. ‘You are worrying without reason’, he said. ‘We have lived in this pond all our lives, and no fisherman has ever come here. Why should these men return? I am not going anywhere – my luck will keep me safe’.

The eldest of the fish left the pond that very evening with his entire family. The second fish saw the fishermen coming in the distance early next morning and left the pond at once with all his family. The third fish refused to leave even then. The fishermen arrived and caught all the fish left in the pond. The third fish’s luck did not help him – he was caught and killed.

Unsur kebahasaan teks Narrative: 

  • Menggunakan Simple Past tense 
  • Menggunakan Noun phrase 
  • Time connectives dan conjunctions seperti: however, although, later, then. 
  • Adverbs and adverbial phrases , menerangkan tempat dan waktu kejadian seperti once upon a time, long time ago. 
  • Action verbs (kata kerja aksi) menunjukkan satu aksi seperti: stood, explained, smashed. 
  • Saying and thinking verbs menunjukkan apa yang dirasakan/dipikirkan/dikatakan si karakter seperti: told, realized, decided.

The Great Wall, one of the greatest wonders of the world, was listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Just like a gigantic dragon, the Great Wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 8,851.8 kilometers (5,500 miles) from east to west of China. With a history of more than 2000 years, some of the sections are now in ruins or have disappeared. However, it is still one of the most appealing attractions all around the world owing to its architectural grandeur and historical significance.

Great Wall of China is the longest structure ever built. It was erected entirely by hand. The main part of the wall is about 3,460 kilometres long. One of the highest sections of the Great Wall, on Mount Badaling, near Beijing, rises to about 11 metres high. This section is about 7.5 metres wide at its base and nearly 6 metres at the top. Watchtowers stand about 90 to 180 metres apart along the wall.

Teks narrative berisi cerita untuk menghibur pembaca atau pendengar. Teks ini berkaitan dengan rangkaian peristiwa yang mengarah ke suatu krisis, yang akhirnya menemukan penyelesaian. Ciri dari teks naratif adalah adanya unsur konflik (masalah) dan resolusi (penyelesaian masalah). The boastful hunter approached him and said, “How are you? it’s a fine day, isn’t it?” “Yes, yes, indeed!” the woodcutter replied. “Well, can you tell me if you have seen some footprints of the lion nearby? it’s been months since i defeated any.” The woodcutter knew that the hunter only boasted, so he said, “Yes, a lion is in a nearby den. Can i take you there?” The scared hunter said, “No … No … i only just wanted to see his footprints.” Finally, the boastful hunter ran away from the spot.

In the meantime, the pigeons were shouting to each other, celebrating their victory . Since then, owls have always travelled at night when the pigeons are asleep.

The village head said, “Together you are stronger than when you work alone.” The farmers pooled their resources and got rid of the pests in their fields.

Last week he dug a wider passage for water into his farm. But he ended up creating a very wide creek in between our farms and i am sure he did it just to annoy me. I want you to build me something so that we don’t have stand and see each other’s face from across.” The carpenter said, “i think i understand the situation. i will be able to do a job that will please you.” The elder brother had to go to town for supplies, so he helped the carpenter get the materials ready and then he was off for the day. The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing. At sunset when the elder brother returned, the carpenter had just finished his job. The elder brother’s eyes opened wide and his jay dropped. It was not what he had even thought of or imagined. It was a bridge stretching from one side of the creek to the other! A fine piece of work, beautiful handrails. To his surprise, his younger brother across the creek was coming to meet him with a big smile and arms wide open to hug him. “You are really kind and humble, my brother! After all i have done and said to you, you still show that blood relations can never be broken! i am truly sorry for my behaviour,” the younger brother said as he hugged his elder brother”

After several years of hard work , he succeeded in the city of rantauannya . Malin is now a wealthy man who even had a number of merchant ships . And Malin had married a beautiful woman there. A wolf saw a goat grazing at the edge of a high cliff. The wolf smacked his lips at the thought of a fine goat dinner.

“My dear friend,” said the wolf in his sweetest voice, “aren’t you afraid you will fall down from that cliff? Come down here and graze on this fine grass beside me on safe, level ground.”

“No, thank you,” said the goat.

“Well then,” said the wolf, “aren’t you cold up there in the wind? You would be warmer grazing down here beside me in this sheltered area.”

One day a man stopped at a flower shop to order some flowers. He wanted to send it to his mother who lived far in another town through a delivery company. The man smiled and said, “Come on in with me I’ll buy you a rose.” He bought the little girl a rose and he ordered for his own mother flowers too.

After buying a rose flower for the girl the man offered the girl a ride to her home. She said” yes please! You can take me to my mother. She directed him to a cemetery. The girl placed the rose on her mother’s fresh grave. Knowing the girl’s mother had died the man realized that he must show his love to his mother while she was still alive. Then the man returned to the flower shop. He cancelled the flower delivery order picked up the rose flower and drove to reach his mother’s house.

An ant nimbly running in search of food came across a chrysalis that was close its time to change. Once upon a time, there was a kingdom in Java that was attacked by another kingdom. The king asked his Queen to save her life. Alas! In the middle of the jungle, the enemy killed all her guards. However, the Queen was lucky because she changed herself into a golden snail and survived.

One day, an old woman saw the snail and took it home. She looked after it. Whenever the old woman was not at home, the snail turned into a human being. She cooked and did the household chores. When the old woman got home, the Queen quickly changed into a snail again. It happened several times and made the old woman curious. One day, the old woman peeped and saw what was going on. She broke in, immediately. She asked, "Why did you change yourself into a snail?". The Queen told her what happened. The old woman was surprised to know that the snail was a Queen.

Later, from the head of the village they discovered that the king had won the battle and he was looking for his wife. Then the village head sent a message to the king telling him that his wife was safe.

Several days later, the King and his guards came for the queen. They thanked the villagers for their kindness and brought the old women to their palace.

In the struggle, the donkey fell over the bridge and then it was drowned.
