If education system sets its target for students to be able to think critically, solve problems individually and collectively, be creative, instructional and assessment processes must undergo a paradigm shift as suggested by National Curriculum Framework 2005. Critics of current assessment practices argue that the goal should be to have students who can create, reflect, solve problems, collect and use information, and formulate interesting and worthwhile questions. Thus, it is argued, our assessments-whether they are developed by teachers, writers of textbooks, or large corporations must measure the extent to which students have mastered these types of knowledge and skills. A paradigm shift in education in recent year envisions a new type of learning culture. If we adopt constructivism approaches of learning (acquiring knowledge as well as assessment) then learning become more fruitful. In the constructivists perspective, learning is a process of the construction of knowledge. Learners actively construct knowledge by connecting new ideas to existing ideas. Constructivist pedagogy promotes scientific ways of thinking. Assessment refers to the process of gathering pieces of information about learners' skills, abilities and knowledge. It also provides feedback on students' performance to encourage them for further learning. In this paper author highlighted different constructivist assessment tools i.e. portfolio, concept map and rubrics in detailed. The author also describes the usefulness of above mentioned tools in a constructivist classroom and the assessment process i.e. self assessment, peer assessment, collaborative assessment. Backdrop: In the constructivist classroom, the focus tends to shift from the teacher to the student. The classroom is no longer a place where the teacher (" expert ") pours knowledge into passive students, who wait like empty vessels to be filled. In the constructivist model, the students are urged to be actively involved in their own process of learning. Rather than saying " NO " when a student does not give the exact answer being sought, the constructivist teacher attempts to understand the student's current thinking about the topic .Constructivist believes that assessment should be used as a tool to enhance both students learning and the teacher's understanding of the students current understanding. It should not be used as an accountability tool that makes some students feel good about themselves and causes others to give up. There are different assessment tools i.e. concept map, portfolio, rubrics and assessment process i.e. self assessment, peer assessment, collaborative assessment are used in a constructivist classroom. Constructivism:

Assessment has got many purposes and may serve various formative and summative functions. In our paper we deal with assessment for learning which is process-oriented, helps learners improve and enhance their learning and understand it better. In order to achieve that learners need to know their learning objectives and the criteria which are used to assess their performance, they should be given a lot of descriptive feedback and have many opportunities to self-assess. In our study we analyze if assessment for learning is implemented at gymnasia in Slovakia, how students are assessed, if the focus of assessment is on the product (summative assessment) or on the process (formative assessment) and if teachers facilitate self-assessment. The results which we arrived at indicate that assessment for learning is not done at the observed schools, the feedback students get on their learning is evaluative and as such it does not help them improve their learning, succeed in achieving the object...

The study attempted to characterize students’ conceptions of learning and approaches to learning and revealing the correlation between the students’ concepts and approaches to learning. The researchers used qualitative content analysis and a descriptive approach. The study population comprised 90 male and female students of the Faculty of Educational Science in the HU University, Jordan, during the 2019/2020 academic year. The quantitative concepts were dominating among students (87.77%), especially the concept of learning as a knowledge increase (33.33%). On the other hand, the qualitative concepts of learning were low (12.22%), especially on the person change (2.22%). In addition, there was an emergence of a new concept of learning outside the traditional concepts, namely learning as exam preparation. The results showed that the deep approach to learning was low, and the surface approach to learning was high. The results further showed a correlation between the quantitative concep...
