IMPORTANT QUESTIONS FOR CBSE EXAMINATION | CLASS 7 MATHEMATICS DATA HANDLING – Chapter 3

Answer the following (2 marks):

1. A batsman scored the following number of runs in six innings: 65, 60, 45, 50, 55, 31 Calculate the mean runs scored by him in an innings.

2. The marks (out of 50) obtained by a group of students in a Mathematics test are 48, 45, 36, 21, 50, 43 and 25.Find the: i) Highest and the lowest marks obtained by the students. ii) Range of the marks obtained.

3. Find the mode of the given set of numbers: 3,4,5,3,5,3,6,7,3,3,8,9

4. Find the median of the data: 13, 16, 12, 14, 19, 10, 18, 9, 15.

5. Find the average of the numbers 45, 50 and 55

6. When a die is rolled, find the probability of getting a prime number?

7. When a coin is tossed, find the probability of getting a head?

8. Find the average of the first ten prime numbers.

9. If the mean of the following numbers 36, 35, x, 46, 60 and 55 are 47, find the value of x?

10. Define the following terms:

i) Range ii) Median iii) Mode

1. Mean = sum of all observations/ Number of observations

= 65 + 60 + 45+ 50+ 55 + 31 / 6 = 306 / 6 = 51

2. i) Highest mark = 50

Lowest mark = 21 ii) Range = 50 -21 = 29

3. Mode is the observation that occurs most often.

So mode = 3 (3 occurs 5 times)

4. Arrange in ascending order 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19 Median = 14

5. Average = 45 + 50 + 55 / 3 = 150 / 3 = 50

6. Prime numbers are 2, 3 and 5 Probability = 3/6 = ½

8. First 10 prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, and 29. Mean = 2 + 3 +5+ 7+ 11 + 13+ 17+ 19+ 23 + 29 /10 = 129 / 10 = 12.9

9. Given 36 + 35 + x + 46 + 60 + 55 / 6 = 47 (232 + x)/ 6 = 47 232 + x = 47 x 6 232 + x = 282 x = 282 – 232 = 50

10. Range: The difference between the highest and the lowest observation is called Range. Median: Median is the middle observation while arranging in ascending or descending order. Mode: The mode of a set of observations is the observation that occurs most often.

3.3 Organization of Data
