The proportion of visitors from Western Europe and Asia was 43.2% and 26.6% respectively in 2010, which illustrates that the number of European tourists fell while that of Asians rose over the three year period. In addition, the average age of male travelers was 42 years and that of females was 37 years (U.S. Department of Commerce, 2010).

The rise in the number of Asian guests is an indicator that these countries are significantly impacting the global tourism industry as countries like China and India record a strong middle class, which is estimated to be approximately 600 million people in 2015. Experts also predict that, by 2030, the middle-class population in China will have grown by about two billion people.

Indonesia also anticipates that about 60 million people will join this group in the next couple of years (Fuller, 2013). Consequently, it is believed that there will be a higher demand for leisure travel, as the middle class is considered a strong indicator of travel intent, ability, and desire.

Additionally, analysts argue that baby boomers will form a critical component of the tourism industry, as it is projected that they will have a higher disposable income, and will be more youthful and determined to travel than their predecessors (Boksberger, Sund, & Schuckert, 2009). The above statement is explained by the fact that it is estimated that this age group will own about 60% of the nation’s wealth in the United States by 2015.

In addition, they will account for 40% of total spending in the same period and it is assumed that they will spend a substantial amount of time traveling after retirement (Deloitte, 2010).

Though boomers are likely to catapult the travel sector, the younger populace aged between 20 and 50 years is also keen on traveling albeit on cheaper budgets. Moreover, players in the business should also focus on this market because it has shown a desire to tour and are flexible to participate in a range of fun activities.

It is apparent that demographic trends in the tourism industry in the United States and globally will change extensively in the next few years. This change means that service providers must develop product offerings that appeal to the changing clientele in order to attract repeat customers.

Consequently, it will be essential to understand the cultural differences that come with these changes and efforts made to ensure that visitors feel comfortable while on vacation.

Some of these efforts include sensitizing staff to tolerate the different cultures, offering meals from different parts of the world, and employing multi-lingual tour guides. Besides that, it is essential to make sure that the leisure activities provided are suitable for the diverse market segments. Additionally, it will be vital to develop sustainable strategies that help businesses attract and retain different groups.

The current and future demographic trends of travelers present several opportunities for the hospitality industry for players who can package the products to take advantage of the expectations of the different segments. For instance, senior tourists are likely to be thrilled by cruise- related activities because they are, quiet, and are less risky.

In contrast, generation x and y may be more inclined to engage in precarious and social activities such as excursions. It is also imperative to consider the changing factors such as more holiday periods, intention to combine leisure travel with work, shorter vacations, preference for a participatory vacation and discretionary tourism, among other factors.

Secondly, younger travelers have access to information, which influences their choice of destinations and activities. They have become sophisticated clients who want value for money so they are deemed to be experience-oriented rather than destination-oriented. There is an opportunity to transform the market by offering customized holidays and providing personalized services, allowing visitors to take on a more active role during their trips.

All this information can be posted online to make it easily accessible and where possible allow for electronic booking, which has become a favorite travel option for the tech-savvy.

The shift in tourism demographics also creates prospects for forging alliances to derive synergy from each other. For instance, the middle class and affluent travelers would prefer to have an airport and hotel transfer services rather than having to arrange their own transport. Moreover, they would like tour operators to plan their itinerary and they are willing to pay a premium to avoid the inconveniences that come with self-planning for a vacation.

This new demand requires players to work together to ensure they deliver top-notch services to create delight and attract repeat business and referrals.

Unfortunately, the demographic changes have a downside. For example, the surge in baby boomer population comes with additional costs as this age group may require special treatment because of its fragile nature.

As a result, service providers with limited resources may opt to steer away from this market, and miss out on the returns that it can generate. On the other hand, a swell in the number of international visitors means that firms have to invest heavily in hiring and training multicultural staff to increase customer satisfaction. Lastly, there may be a need to forge partnerships to derive synergy; however, it is not easy to do so with competitors.

The process of management of a hospitality facility has multiple layers and very complicated infrastructure. Like any other type of business tourist business is oriented towards the maximization of revenue potential. This is done through the representation of new branches and services to the facility and exploring the range of benefits and activities the facility can provide for the customers.

This is why the statistical knowledge of the needs of potential clients is crucial. The success of the facility management lies in the accurate monitoring of the kinds of tourists using the services of the facility and the modern cost policy.

Contemporary customers have access to the information, which influences their expectations of the quality of services distributed by the facilities; this is why training a qualified staff is an important part of the management success.

The modern world is tightly connected to the technologies and the Internet. This is why every contemporary hospitality facility has to be equipped with a powerful IT team and the best software needed to provide predictive management based on diagnostics and planning.

It is highly important to keep an eye on all the modern newly developed trends within the business and quickly adopt all the changes, because the potential customers are most likely to be interested in the most modern services, so their choices of the facilities will be based on their levels of preparation for the season and on their abilities to please even the most spoiled customers.

There are various types of people traveling, and they have various demands, yet the hospitality facilities have to offer certain types of services that will never stop being popular. Such services are good, comfortable and clean accommodations, diverse and fresh meals, and a broad range of beverages. These are the aspects of the facility management that need the most of attention.

The tourism and hospitality sector is growing at a remarkable rate locally and globally. Analysts attribute this growth to demographic changes such as a strong global middle class, a rise in the number of senior tourists, and a rise in the number of international travelers. This shift means that the sector needs to understand current patterns, anticipate future trends, and understand the opportunities and challenges that they present.

Nevertheless, the most important thing for tours and hotel operators is to formulate strategies and tactics that will grow their competitive advantage because only those that can foresee and plan for new trends will survive in the trade.

Travel to Remote Natural Environments

Can anyone give feedback on my writing. Today more and more tourists are visiting places where conditions are difficult, such as the Sahara desert or the Antarctic. What are the advantages and disadvantages for tourists who visit such places? It is generally said that humans are always striving to enrich their learnings through exploring new places. It may be the reason that more people tend to visit remote places where living conditions are harsh with difficult accessibility. There are advantages and disadvantages in this approach. Exploration of these places equips humans with realities and true meaning of their lives. One may learn his own capabilities and limitations. They may also satisfy their self-actualization needs and get to know themselves. Siberia is such example, where despite of difficult situations people tends to visit and upon returning, they contribute more positively to their own communities. When large number of people come to these places, it is also good for their local economy. Many businesses grow with influx of tourism industry and it brings positive impact of lives of residence. For example, there are now many tour operator companies are going to launch their business in Sahara Desserts and many new jobs are created in area. Some disadvantages are also associated with this, if more people are visiting these places than it becomes difficult for Government to ensure their safety. As these area lacks basic infrastructure hence more lives are put in danger. Most people are not fully experienced to survive in these brutal conditions and they add more burden on local services. Secondly, most visitors don’t take care of local customs and annoy local communities. To conclude, we may say that when tourists visit to isolated lands, it improvises themselves and brings positive changes of local community. But at the same it brings challenges for local community.

Travel to Remote Places Essay

Nowadays, scientists and tourists can travel to remote natural environments such as the South Pole. What are advantages and disadvantages of this development? Over the past few years , there seems to have been a significant increase in tourist trips to the places where conditions are difficult or unbearable such as the Sahara desert or Antarctic, This type of tourism is expected to become more popular in the upcoming coming years. But like any emerging phenomenon, it also has several advantages and disadvantages. I will try my best to elaborate on each of them briefly. Let’s take a look at the advantageous of traveling to Sahara or Antartica: Based on the latest statistics from Columbia University which was done on 300 volunteers, it was concluded that traveling to remote areas can be extremely dangerous due to various reasons. In fact, trip to difficult and remote areas such as Sahara desert or Antarctic can reduce the stress and anxiety of tourists. In addition, tourists can challenge their will and power by going to these areas. Dr. LeoFang ( 2009 ) , who is a psychologist at the Wolford Clinic in Tennessee, conducted several scientific studies which published the results in the American Psychological Association shows that people are frustrated with life after traveling to difficult and remote areas feel more empowered in life an increase life expectancy in them. Traveling to remote areas has some drawbacks: Traveling to remote areas such as Sahara desert or Antarctic can be extremely deadly to the traveler because the harsh nature of these areas contrasts with the urban spirit and comfort that tourists are accustomed to. Besides, any injuries or damage to the body due to the distance from the hospital can be dangerous for the injured person. another problem with such trips is that they are limited to natural attractions. Tourists cannot enjoy other aspects of tourist trips such as shopping malls and historic centers and Etc. In conclusion, traveling to the desert, which is becoming more and more popular among tourists every day, has some advantages and disadvantages that tourists can pay attention to them when deciding to make such trips to have a more comfortable and pleasant trip.

Owing to over interest in the tourism, individuals are gaining lot of knowledge.which rises the inclination of people towards belief that it has a devastating impact on them.others, however including I harbour the thought that it is positive infested to them. In the starting paragraph with this statement people believe that the importance of the tourism in the developing countries is more instead of poorer countries. Initially, although, tourism is liked just for enjoyment by certain people still some individuals think that they adapt to new knowledge by travelling .for example when individuals go to any cultural place,they can know about culture and moral values along with history.as a result, they can explore their knowledge.what is another factor? apparently,during the travel time individuals meet with new people.various kinds of language are learned by person because when they meet with new people they try to speak language of them.consequently, they enhance their communication skills. On the other hand, if developing countries give more important on tourism, the life experiences would increase because when person go to another country l.they not only learn about new language but also adapt diverse kinds of things such as how to treat with another and learn many kinds of traveling experience. hence, the tourism have positive effect on them. The cynics of the aforementioned notion, on the other hand, oppose the view, they are of the opinion that if the most people travel from one country to another country. the environment pollution would rise with it because they would travel on any vehicle not by walking.therefore, people would reduce the tourism. To epitomise, indeed somehow I strongly believe that tourism is beneficial for exploring knowledge still devastating effects it had on environment are such that neglecting them would be considered folly.

Pros and Cons of International Tourism

International tourism has brought enormous benefit to many places. At the same time, there is concern about its impact on local inhabitants and the environment. Do the disadvantages of international tourism outweigh the advantages? In some countries, tourism plays a big role in keeping their economy stable. Places like Greece, Maldives, and Malta rely heavily on international visits due to the fact that other industries have not been much developed in those areas. Although it dose pose a concerning risk environmentally and locally, I would say that the benefits are far greater than the disadvantages. To begin, international tourism brings a lot of money to the country. Plane tickets, visas, and other accommodations brings income to the country in the form of tax, this supports the economic growth, allowing more money to circulate in the market. Furthermore, as tourist needs a lot of services, it opens a lot of business prospects to the locals. Places like hotels, villas, and restaurants are needed for the guests, these places are also a way to decrease unemployment rate as they need a lot of human resources to run. International tourists are also beneficial as they can promote the various tourism spots to other people. Publication of the areas can lead to more visits allowing popularity to rise. Tourists may also experience the cultural differences, allowing it to be more well-known internationally. Of course not everything in international tourism is beneficial, the minus point is it increases the risk of environment damage and interference in local communities. Pollution, excessive land-use, and waste are some of the threats coming from the guests. This can disturb local residents as they are the ones who will have to bear the consequences of this damaging behavior. In conclusion, international tourism poses great advantages to both the government and local communities. However, to eliminate the downside, strict rules and punishments are needed to ensure the environment and people living in the area are not being disturbed.

UN Adopts a New Global Standard to Measure the Sustainability of Tourism

A groundbreaking statistical framework, developed under the leadership of UN Tourism, has been adopted by all 193 UN member states.

The Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism (MST) thus becomes the internationally agreed reference framework for measuring the economic, social and environmental aspects of tourism.

The adoption by the UN Statistical Commission at its 55th session (27 February – 1 March 2024) marks a historical milestone towards harnessing the full potential of the sector, providing a solution to the pressing need for a harmonized methodology to effectively assess the sustainability of tourism.

"Tourism is a powerful force for positive change when managed responsibly and sustainably," says Zurab Pololikashvili, UN Tourism Secretary General. "The adoption of the Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism marks a paradigm shift, going beyond GDP by enabling the measurement of what matters most to people and planet."

Collaborative effort

This achievement is the fruit of a seven-year UN process led by Austria and Spain as co-chairs of the UN Tourism Committee on Statistics, with Saudi Arabia and Seychelles as co-vice chairs.  Under auspices of the Committee, the Framework was developed thanks to the extraordinary work of the multistakeholder Expert Group on Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism composed of 40+ countries and 30+ international and regional organizations including the UN Statistics Division, the International Labour Organization (ILO), subnational authorities and observatories, academia and others.

The work involved technical guidance from an Editorial Board chaired first by the Philippines and then by Canada, as well as extensive engagement and consultation with input from numerous pilots in countries.

The Statistical Commission expressed an overwhelmingly enthusiastic support with 34 countries, 3 world regions and international organizations taking active part in the deliberations: Antigua and Barbuda, Austria, Benin on behalf of the African Group, Cabo Verde, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Finland on behalf of the European Statistical System, Greece, Jamaica, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Slovenia, Spain, Tajikistan, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities and ILO.  

Looking ahead, the Commission also welcomed the future development of an implementation programme, including a compilation guide, and called on the international donor community to support the financing for measuring the sustainability of tourism.

Established in 1947, the UN Statistical Commission gathers Chief Statisticians from Member States and international organizations, and is the highest decision-making body for international statistical activities. The last time that the Commission adopted a statistical standard for tourism was in 2008, when the International Recommendations for Tourism Statistics and the Tourism Satellite Account framework were presented.

Closing the gap between policy and statistics

In the margins of the United Nations Statistical Commission, Austria, Spain and UN Tourism co-organized the high-level side event “Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism: Closing the gap between policy and statistics”, in collaboration with the UN Committee for Economic-Environmental Accounting. Austria and Spain shared their vision on the importance of the Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism for evidence-based policy and decisions, while acknowledging its significance in upholding the relevance of statistical systems worldwide and the links to key topics like data governance and stewardship.

Mexico, the Philippines and Canada reflected on their pioneering experiences with implementing the framework, showcasing the power of integrating data from different domains and sources to distil more holistic and meaningful information on tourism.

The event raised awareness of the Statistical Framework for MST and functioned as an informative preamble to the UN Statistical Commission’s formal deliberations.

The word 'tourism' comes from the Greek word 'tourotravism,' which means 'traveling in search of a thing.' Hence, the word 'tourism' implies that connections are made through travel. 

Tourism is a dynamic sector that connects people from all over the world with the local culture, environment, and history. People have used tourism to connect with new places for thousands of years, and it's an integral part of those places becoming home.

The word 'tourism' refers to the act of traveling in order to make connections. When referring to the industry, however, the word 'tourism' can refer specifically to travel for business or economic reasons. 

In this sense, tourism can be regarded as a commercial activity. Regardless of what it's called, tourism has many positive impacts on its communities. 

It provides a way for people to connect with nature and creates lasting economic opportunities. Essentially, people connect with their environment through travel when they're Tourism.

The hospitality sector makes up a large part of the economy thanks to tourists. According to estimates, this sector earned $596 billion in 2018 worldwide. 

This number accounts for 13.9 percent of the world's Gross Domestic Product and 7.4 percent of all global revenue. In addition to economic growth, this sector contributes to climate change by releasing greenhouse gases while generating revenue. 

Therefore, governments and corporations should strive to reduce the number of tourists they send places. Instead, they should focus on growing local economies and improving local conditions while they're there.

Connecting with a region's culture is also possible through tourism. Many cultures develop unique tastes and traditions around tourists from other regions and countries. 

For example, many Thai restaurants in America currently cater almost exclusively to Western tourists with recognizable dishes like coconut soup or tikka masala curry. 

However, some regions are more connected than others when it comes to their cultures- especially when it comes to heritage or ethnicity.

For example, several cities in Australia celebrate the cultures of their original inhabitants and the migrants who came later- giving each city a unique cultural identity.

Tourism is a way of connecting with nature, business and culture - and it can have many positive impacts on people, communities and the environment alike.

Therefore, we should consider changing our mindset regarding this sector and consider ways we can connect more often through tourism!

Tourism is the process of spending time away from home. It can be for recreation, relaxation, fun, and pleasure. The people who travel for the above-mentioned reasons are called tourists.

There are several benefits of tourism. It can benefit tourists and the place they are visiting.

• Due to tourism, we can know cultures and traditions across the world.

How Tourism Unites all the people around the world

People around the world are connected in many ways. This includes trade, jobs, telecommunication, etc., One way by which nations all around the world are connected is by way of tourism.

Tourism brings people together. Tourists might belong to different countries but they are brought together by tourism. Tourism is making us global citizens. Tourism develops cross-culture interaction among people of different countries.

It helps in better understanding the culture, tradition, behavior, and attitudes of the people. It may lead to a better understanding of the people all over the world and promote peaceful relations.

Tourism promotes healthy relationships between people. It connects people all around the world without discrimination. It promotes a better understanding of the history and culture of a place.

It strengthens the dialogue between the regions and neighboring countries. The tourist-friendly attitude between nations all over the world promotes peace and harmony.

Tourism is the driving force in the elimination of poverty, improving the standard of living, job creation, etc., With this it gives us a clear-cut picture that the mutual understanding between people of different nations is important for social progress.

This Prophetic Academic Now Foresees the West’s Defeat

“If anybody in this room thinks Putin will stop at Ukraine, I assure you, he will not,” President Biden said during his State of the Union address on Thursday night. Europe is “at risk,” he added, as he welcomed Ulf Kristersson, the prime minister of Sweden, the newest member of NATO.

But Mr. Biden also said he remains “determined” that American soldiers will not be necessary to defend Europe. As a White House spokesman put it last week, it is “crystal clear” that the use of ground troops is off the table.

Mr. Kristersson’s head must have been spinning. The prospect of further Russian incursions was the strongest argument that the United States relied on to draw NATO into the war, and to draw new members, like Sweden, into NATO. But if such incursions were a genuine concern, then ground troops would be an option for the United States and its allies almost by definition.

The rationale for NATO participation in the Russo-Ukrainian war is getting fuzzier at the very moment when one would expect it to be getting clearer.

This is a problem. Europeans, like Americans, are tiring of the war. They are increasingly skeptical that Ukraine can win it. But perhaps most important, they distrust the United States, which has done little in this war to dispel skepticism about its motives and its competence that arose during the Iraq war two decades ago. Unique though Americans sometimes believe their polarization to be, all Western societies have a version of it. As Europe’s “elites” see it, NATO is fighting a war to beat back a Russian invasion. But as “populists” see it, American elites are leading a war to beat back a challenge to their own hegemony — no matter what the collateral damage.

American leadership is failing: That is the argument of an eccentric new book that since January has stood near the top of France’s best-seller lists. It is called “La Défaite de l’Occident” (“The Defeat of the West”). Its author, Emmanuel Todd, is a celebrated historian and anthropologist who in 1976, in a book called “The Final Fall,” used infant-mortality statistics to predict that the Soviet Union was headed for collapse.

Since then, what Mr. Todd writes about current events has tended to be received in Europe as prophecy. His book “After the Empire,” predicting the “breakdown of the American order,” came out in 2002, in the flush of post-9/11 national cohesion and before the debacle of the Iraq war, to which Mr. Todd was fiercely opposed. Anglophone (his doctorate is from Cambridge) and Anglophile (at least at the start of his career), he has grown steadily disillusioned with the United States, even anti-American.

Mr. Todd is a critic of American involvement in Ukraine, but his argument is not the now-familiar historical one made by the dissident political scientist John Mearsheimer. Like Mr. Mearsheimer, Mr. Todd questions the zealous expansion of NATO under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, the neoconservative ideology of democracy promotion and the official demonization of Russia. But his skepticism of U.S. involvement in Ukraine goes deeper. He believes American imperialism has not only endangered the rest of the world but also corroded American character.

In interviews over the past year, Mr. Todd has argued that Westerners focus too much on one surprise of the war: Ukraine’s ability to defy Russia’s far larger army. But there is a second surprise that has been underappreciated: Russia’s ability to defy the sanctions and seizures through which the United States sought to destroy the Russian economy. Even with its Western European allies in tow, the United States lacked the leverage to keep the world’s big, new economic actors in line. India took advantage of fire-sale prices for Russian energy. China provided Russia with sanctioned goods and electronic components.

And then the manufacturing base of the United States and its European allies proved inadequate to supply Ukraine with the matériel (particularly artillery) needed to stabilize, let alone win, the war. The United States no longer has the means to deliver on its foreign-policy promises.

People have been awaiting this moment for quite some time, not all of them as far from the corridors of power as Mr. Todd. Mr. Biden mentioned in his 2017 memoir that President Barack Obama used to warn him about “overpromising to the Ukrainian government.” Now we see why.

Mr. Todd contends that Americans’ heedless plunge into the global economy was a mistake. Parts of his case will be familiar from other authors: The United States produces fewer cars than it did in the 1980s; it produces less wheat. But parts of his case involve deeper, long-term cultural shifts perennially associated with prosperity. We used to call them decadence.

In an advanced, highly educated society like ours, Mr. Todd argues, too many people aspire to the work of running things and bossing people around. They want to be politicians, artists, managers. This doesn’t always require learning intellectually complex stuff . “In the long run, educational progress has brought educational decline,” he writes, “because it has led to the disappearance of those values that favor education.”

Mr. Todd calculates that the United States produces fewer engineers than Russia does, not just per capita but in absolute numbers. It is experiencing an “internal brain drain,” as its young people drift from demanding, high-skill, high-value-added occupations to law, finance and various occupations that merely transfer value around the economy and in some cases may even destroy it. (He asks us to consider the ravages of the opioid industry, for instance.)

As Mr. Todd sees it, the West’s decision to outsource its industrial base is more than bad policy; it is also evidence of a project to exploit the rest of the world. But ringing up profits is not the only thing America does in the world — it also spreads a system of liberal values, which are often described as universal human rights. A specialist in the anthropology of families, Mr. Todd warns that a lot of the values Americans are currently spreading are less universal than Americans think.

Anglo-American family structures, for example, have traditionally been less patriarchal than those almost anyplace else in the world. As it has modernized, the United States has come to espouse a model of sex and gender that conjugates poorly with those of traditional cultures (such as India’s) and more patriarchal modern ones (such as Russia’s).

Mr. Todd is not a moralizer. But he insists that traditional cultures have a lot to fear from the West’s various progressive leanings and may resist allying themselves on foreign policy with those who espouse them. In a similar way, during the Cold War, the Soviet Union’s official atheism was a deal-breaker for many people who might otherwise have been well disposed toward Communism.

Mr. Todd does believe that certain of our values are “deeply negative.” He presents evidence that the West does not value the lives of its young. Infant mortality, the telltale metric that led him to predict the Soviet collapse half a century ago, is higher in Mr. Biden’s America (5.4 per thousand) than in Mr. Putin’s Russia — and three times higher than in the Japan of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

While Mr. Todd is, again, not judgmental on sexual matters, he is judgmental on intellectual ones. The inability to distinguish facts from wishes astounds him at every turn of the Ukraine war. The American hope early in the war that China might cooperate in a sanctions regime against Russia, thereby helping the United States refine a weapon that would one day be aimed at China itself, is, for Mr. Todd, a “delirium.”

For students of the Vietnam War, there is much in Mr. Todd’s book that recalls the historian Loren Baritz’s classic 1985 book, “Backfire,” which drew on popular culture, patriotic mythology and management theory to explain what had led the United States astray in Vietnam. Mr. Baritz concluded, “We are what went wrong in Vietnam.” Had Lyndon Johnson managed to impose his will on the Vietnamese, Mr. Baritz reflected, “an entire culture would have been utterly destroyed out of the goodness of the American heart.”

One is constantly reading in the papers that Vladimir Putin is a threat to the Western order. Maybe. But the larger threat to the Western order is the hubris of those who run it.

Fighting a war based on values requires good values. At a bare minimum it requires an agreement on the values being spread, and the United States is further from such agreement than it has ever been in its history — further, even, than it was on the eve of the Civil War. At times it seems there are no national principles, only partisan ones, with each side convinced that the other is trying not just to run the government but also to capture the state.

Until some new consensus emerges, President Biden is misrepresenting his country in presenting it as stable and unified enough to commit to anything . Ukrainians are learning this at a steep cost.
