PLDT powers microbusinesses ‘hyperdigitalization’ with resilient, reliable connectivity and digital solutions

Team Orange

Leading integrated telco network PLDT Inc (PLDT), through its B2B arm PLDT Enterprise , is reinforcing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in their “hyperdigitalization” efforts.

“ We can talk about our reliable and resilient networks, or how much bandwidth we can offer a business, but when it comes to microbusinesses, we have to be straightforward in our approach. In the end, it’s about more than just the connectivity. It’s about what is enabled by that connectivity, ” said Euan Toralballa , PLDT Enterprise Head for Small and Micro Business , speaking at a panel discussion on digital transformation for MSMEs at the recent GoDigital Pilipinas (GDP) Movement launch held in La Union.

pldt micro business plan

“ While connectivity can provide them with basic digital functions like social media, fintech tools, and e-Governance platforms–connectivity is actually more than that. It also gives them access to upskilling and training, capital and financing, for example, ” Toralballa said, adding that having access to connectivity also opens up opportunities to use an array of business solutions and other products.

“ For that, connectivity alone is very empowering as it gives MSMEs all these tools that can help them hyperdigitalize their business ,” he said, adding that aside from bandwidth and connectivity, PLDT Enterprise also supports businesses who are looking into more advanced solutions such as cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things, as well as services like colocation and data centers.

“ Given that the microbusinesses are the life force of the economy, connectivity is actually the red thread that binds us all together ,” Toralballa added.

An initiative of the Digital Infrastructure pillar of the Presidential Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC), GDP heeds the call of the government to address the risk of a digital divide by promoting digital literacy and building a sustainable digital ecosystem.

PLDT President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio is among the founding members of PSAC, under its Digital Infrastructure pillar.

Supporting the connectivity and digital solutions needs of businesses of all sizes nationwide are PLDT and Smart’s integrated fixed and wireless networks.

As of end-March 2023, PLDT had expanded its total fiber footprint to over 1.1 million kilometers, consisting of over 231,000 kilometers of international fiber and over 874,000 kilometers of domestic fiber.

This fiber infrastructure also supports Smart’s 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G network, which covers 97 percent of the country’s population as of end-March 2023.

PLDT and Smart’s continued efforts to transform their integrated fixed and wireless networks contribute to the PLDT Group’s endeavors to provide connectivity to all, and to anchor initiatives on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) particularly on SDG No. 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

PLDT launches new package of business-grade internet and digital solutions

[Editor’s Note: Geared towards the current and future needs of small and mid-size enterprises, PLDT launches a new service package, BEYOND FIBER. Below is their press release.]

MANILA, Philippines – Leading telecoms and digital services provider PLDT, Inc. has launched its newest package of connectivity and digital solutions to help businesses gear up for operating in the New Normal.

Called BEYOND FIBER, the new service package offered by PLDT’s Enterprise Group features a set of curated digital tools ranging from productivity and collaboration tools to e-payments and e-commerce solutions. These services are combined with enterprise-grade WiFi running on premium fiber service—enabling small and mid-size enterprises (SMEs) to fearlessly make the digital shift towards long-term growth.

“We at PLDT and Smart are focused on putting the customer at the center of everything we do. Within the Enterprise group, we aim to do this through the launch of solutions such as BEYOND FIBER, which is set to benefit all our customers—regardless of size or industry. We look forward to seeing how this solution will inspire business to look beyond the current situation and take their businesses further,” said Smart President & CEO and PLDT Chief Revenue Officer Al Panlilio.

“Digitalization has now become critical for businesses that want to survive and thrive under the challenging conditions created by the COVID pandemic. We specifically designed BEYOND FIBER to equip businesses with digital solutions tailor-fit to the growing needs of today’s enterprises,” said Jovy Hernandez, ePLDT President & CEO and SVP Head for PLDT and Smart Enterprise Business Groups.

For only P2,500 a month, SMEs and large enterprises alike can avail of the foundational components of BEYOND FIBER: enterprise-grade connectivity via a premium WiFi device and fiber connection, all supported by a dedicated business hotline.

BEYOND FIBER raises the bar by offering a more robust business-grade fiber link with speeds of up to 50 Mbps—harnessing PLDT’s extensive fiber-optic network with over 322,000 kilometers of fiber cables and growing – to better enable the day-to-day business for an office, a branch or for people working from home.

To manage the expanding use of wi-fi connectivity in the workplace, BEYOND FIBER comes with a secure, enterprise-grade wi-fi router. Stores for example can have dual wi-fi networks: one for work, and one for guests.

For businesses using telecommute or work-from-home arrangements, the WiFi service can enforce certain network policies to support their company processes.  This is made possible by PLDT’s partnership with Cisco Meraki – a leader in cloud-managed IT with unmatched visibility and control.

On top of this, PLDT is offering a selection of solutions that fit the current and future digital needs of enterprises. This includes productivity tools available through Microsoft 365’s suite of work solutions, collaboration tools via MS Teams, appointments scheduling via MS Bookings.

BEYOND FIBER also offers solutions to protect work devices from cyber-attacks via ePLDT’s Endpoint Advanced Security, to enable cashless and online payments via Paymaya, and to provide secure & private connections through Cisco Meraki Z3.

“These are the solutions initially lined up under BEYOND FIBER.  We will have more in the months to come. This initiative is designed to help businesses to make  their  digital shift—so that they grow amid the COVID crisis and help power the recovery of the national economy,” Hernandez said.

PLDT Enterprise empowers SMEs towards long-term growth with tailored solutions

pldt micro business plan

As a beacon of digital progress in the Philippines, PLDT Enterprise remains committed in promoting digital innovation and inclusion for businesses nationwide, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Euan Toralballa, Head of Small and Micro Business at PLDT Enterprise, remarked, “At PLDT Enterprise, we don’t just see ourselves as service providers but as Visionaries. Our commitment to digital innovation and inclusion represents a fundamental shift in how we empower our stakeholders, particularly SMEs, in this rapidly evolving digital landscape.”

Furthermore, Toralballa emphasized, “Our role in this digitalization journey is to ensure that every Filipino, regardless of their economic status, has access to the digital world. This aligns perfectly with our goal of facilitating greater participation in e-commerce and ensuring collective progress.”

Catering to the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: Sulong, SME!

To further support SMEs in their digital transformation journey, PLDT Enterprise enables these businesses to achieve long-term growth with tailor-fit solutions fit for their needs through its “Sulong, SME!” campaign.

The campaign aims to help these businesses move forward in their digital transformation journey, enjoying smooth and fast surfing for their business anytime, anywhere with solutions such as BEYOND FIBER, Enterprise Broadband Plans, and Smart Enterprise Postpaid.

Road to a Digital Nation

Dedicated to enabling businesses digitally, PLDT, through its corporate arm, PLDT Enterprise, supported Cashless Expo 2023 to help advocate financial innovation for businesses.

The Cashless Expo 2023, a landmark event organized by GoDigital Pilipinas (GDP), showcased a wide array of digital financial services, payment solutions, and contactless innovations for consumers and SMEs, driving them towards the new era of digital economy.

The event was a collective effort with key government bodies like the Department of Trade and Industry, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and the Department of Agriculture.

During the event, PLDT Enterprise shared its strategies on empowering SMEs and transforming small businesses to adapt to the digital realm. Acknowledging that internet penetration has already reached 73% in the Philippines at the start of 2023, according to Manila Bulletin ’s Digital 2023, PLDT Enterprise has taken advantage of the new era of omnichannel sales, boosting and supporting SMEs to the maximum this past year.

Included in the overall SME Revival plan were the following steps presented during the program: Improvement of Business Climate, Access to Finance, Access to Management and Labor, Access to Market, and Access to Technology and Innovation.

PLDT Enterprise’s implementation of these steps has been fast-tracked with many milestones already achieved in the past year. For example, PLDT, Smart, and TikTok PH recently collaborated to promote digital upskilling among local farmers and SMEs as they joined the 6 th Bicol Agri Summit.

Highlighting the vital role of technology in empowering Filipino SMEs, the PLDT Group also showcased its ‘eBiznovation’ initiative, a digital upskilling-to-e-commerce program that aims to provide local entrepreneurs, including those in the agricultural and fishery sector, with the right digital tools to help them grow their businesses online. PLDT and Smart also promoted the homegrown ‘Buy Local Bazaar’ program, which educates local SMEs to boost their income and increase their market reach by putting them on e-commerce platforms such as TikTok Shop.

PLDT Enterprise also recently joined the Provincial Government of Laguna, Laguna Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.-LCCI, the Department of Trade and Industry Provincial Office of Laguna, and Enchanted Kingdom in the first-ever province-wide summit for SMEs. This platform has enabled attendees and partners to collaborate and gain access to learning opportunities on market reach, e-commerce, and financial technology.

The PLDT Group also showcased its ‘eBiz Buy Local Bazaar’ on TikTok Shop, a digital upskilling-to-e-commerce program designed to equip local business owners with the right digital tools to enhance their online business expansion.

Parallel to these efforts, PLDT Enterprise has also empowered the Transport Sector at the Bicol Cooperative Congress, introducing the Automated Fare Collection System.

“We, at PLDT and Smart, are committed to helping bridge the digital divide for farmers and SMEs. Through our capacity-building programs and connectivity packages and solutions, we aim to empower them to maximize the potential of technology and grow their businesses online,” said Kristine Magadia, Stakeholder Management Lead for Livelihood and Food Security at PLDT and Smart, during the Cashless Expo.

Uplifting Lives through Digital Adoption

PLDT’s recent involvement in the Cashless Expo is a testament to its commitment to the GDP movement and the Presidential Private Sector Advisory Council’s initiatives. This commitment is also reflected in PLDT’s multi-year transformation plan, focusing on elevating customer experiences and uplifting lives through digital adoption.

Included in this mission of PLDT is, of course, its choice of partners, who share the same vision and values. One such partnership is with the country’s no. 1 digital bank, Maya. The collaboration between PLDT Enterprise and Maya symbolizes a significant step towards a more digitally inclusive society. Their joint venture is not just a business alignment but a fusion of mutual goals and aspirations.

This synergy was prominently showcased at the Cashless Expo, where both Maya and PLDT Enterprise demonstrated their commitment to advancing digital finance and enhancing customer experiences. At this event, the two brands united their message: Embracing digital technology is key to fostering progress and accessibility in today’s fast-paced world. This partnership serves as a beacon of innovation, showcasing how collaborative efforts can lead to greater digital empowerment and societal upliftment.

PLDT Enterprise and Maya led the charge in championing the government’s push for greater financial services adoption as proud co-presenters of the pioneering Cashless Expo 2023, which was organized by GDP.

Underlining Maya’s active participation in the Expo and its dedication to advancing financial services adoption, Shailesh Baidwan, President of the Maya Group and Co-Founder of Maya Bank, stated, “Our goal is to catalyze the widespread adoption of digital transactions, thereby enabling more Filipinos to access advanced banking services like savings and credit.”

PLDT’s support for the GDP movement and the PSAC aligns with its aspirational transformation, focusing on elevating customer experience. This commitment dovetails with the PLDT Group’s goal to uplift Filipinos’ lives through digital services, ensuring the highest quality of internet and connectivity service for all.

In conclusion, PLDT Enterprise’s participation in the Cashless Expo 2023 is a bold step towards a digitally inclusive Philippines. Through such initiatives, PLDT continues to pave the way for a future where digital innovation is not just a concept but a reality accessible to every Filipino.

NEW YORK (AP) — Cyberattacks on businesses are rising, including small businesses. It’s a troubling trend because a breach can be very costly and time consuming if owners don’t have a plan to deal with one.

According to the Verizon 2023 Data Breach Investigations Report, the median cost per ransomware attack — which features a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid — more than doubled over the past two years to $26,000.

That’s partly because there has been a dramatic increase in ransomware attacks, which represent 24% of all breaches.

AP AUDIO: Cyberattacks are on the rise, and that includes small businesses. Here’s what to know.

AP business correspondent Mae Anderson reports.

Small businesses should first have a plan in place to prevent cyberattacks. The human element is the cause of 74% of breaches, so owners should make sure all of their employees use safeguards such as two-factor identification to make it harder to be hacked. Requiring employees to regularly change their passwords can also help.

If your business has been breached, it’s best to work with a cybersecurity executive within your company or a trusted third party to assess what happened and the damage done. Trying to contain it without having the right technical knowledge can just make things worse.

It’s also important to let the authorities know what happened. Attacks must be reported to federal authorities within 72 hours after a company is reasonably sure one has occurred.
