Water brought back from the waterbody is used to make a chulha or a stove, and meals for those observing the fast are prepared on this for the rest of the festival. The meal partaken after the bath consists of a pumpkin sabzi . Over the years, those who can’t go to a waterbody have started observing all the rituals at home.

The second day is called kharna , on which the one observing the fast takes only one meal in the evening, of roti and kheer (rice pudding). This is also the day friends and family gather to prepare thekuas , which are essentially flour cakes with sugar or jaggery fried in ghee . The thekuas , also called khajoor , are prepared taking great precautions to make sure they are perfect for the deity. People can have them only after they have been offered to God.

After the roti-kheer meal begins a 36-hour fast, during which devotees don’t even drink water.

On the third day, devotees go to the banks of a water body. Those who can’t, build a temporary pool in their homes. The banks are decorated with diyas , rangoli , and sugarcane stalks. All the offerings to the God — seasonal fruits like sweet potato, water chestnuts, pomelo, banana — are placed in soops (cane baskets) along with diyas . As the Sun sets, the person fasting raises the soop to it as an offering ( arghya ). Friends and family members of the one fasting pour milk or water on the soop . This is called the Sanjh ka Arghya , or the evening offering.

The next day, the same ritual is conducted at dawn, for the rising Sun, called the Bhor ka Arghya , and the community returns home from the riverbanks, grateful for the successful conclusion of a difficult festival and for having taken part in it.

What makes Chhath unique?

There are many reasons that Chhath has such a special place in Purvanchalis’ heart. This festival means the coming together of the community, the legendary Bihari migrants returning home to soak themselves in their culture and homeland once more.

People from any caste can observe the festival. There are no priests involved, it is the devotee directly fasting for and praying to a visible, apparent God, who shines on everyone equally. त्यौहार हर किसी के चेहरे पर एक बार फिर से मुस्कुराहट लाने की वजह होते हैं, कुछ खरीदारी करने के लिए, हमारी अलमारी में कुछ नए सामान जोड़ने या हमारे ड्राइंग-रूम में कुछ नया बदलाव करने, आदि में त्यौहार महत्वपुर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं। त्यौहार बहुत सारे काम बढ़ाता तो है ही साथ ही साथ ढेर सारी खुशियाँ भी लेकर आता हैं। हम पूरे वर्ष में विभिन्न त्योहार मनाते हैं। इसी तरह, छठ पूजा के नाम पर भी एक त्योहार है और यह दिवाली के 6वें दिन मनाया जाता है।

क्या है छठ पूजा ?

यह एक ऐसा त्यौहार है जो उत्तर भारत में मुख्य रूप से उत्तर प्रदेश, बिहार, झारखंड, और असम के कुछ हिस्सों, पश्चिम बंगाल आदि राज्यों में विशेष रूप से मनाया जाता है। आजकल लोग आजीविका के लिए अलग अलग राज्यों में जाते हैं, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप इस त्यौहार को पूरे देश में मनाते हुए देखा जा सकता है। यहां तक ​​कि विदेशों में रहने वाले उत्तर भारतीय भी इस पूजा को बड़े हर्षो उल्लास के साथ मनाते हैं।

इस पूजा में, लोग भगवान सूर्य से उनकी बहन छठ माता को प्रभावित करने की प्रार्थना करते हैं। वे 3 दिनों तक उपवास रखते हैं और साथ में प्रार्थना भी करते हैं। वे उगते सूरज के साथ-साथ प्रतिदिन अस्त होते हुए सूर्य की भी प्राथना करते हैं और इस त्योहार को मनाते हैं।

छठ पूजा मेरा पसंदीदा त्योहार है

मैं इस त्योहार को बहुत पसंद करता हूं क्योंकि हर साल हम अपने मूल स्थान पर जाते हैं जहां मेरे दादा-दादी रहते हैं, मेरे चचेरे भाई भी इस अवसर पर हिस्सा लेने के लिए उनसे मिलने आते हैं। मेरी दादी, चाची और मेरी माँ हर साल 3 दिन का उपवास रखती हैं और सबसे हैरानी की बात ये है कि ऐसा लगता ही नहीं है कि वे भूखी हैं।

वे पारंपरिक भक्ति गीत गाते हैं, महा प्रसाद बनाते हैं और हम भी उनकी मदद करते हैं, हम महा प्रसाद तैयार करने के लिए आम के पेड़ की लकड़ियों की व्यवस्था करते हैं। महा प्रसाद को हाथ से बने चूल्हे पर अलग से पकाया जाता है। इन तीन दिनों का हम पूरा आनंद लेते हैं, हम वास्तव में इन दिनों कुछ भी करने के लिए स्वतंत्र होते हैं, मैं अपने चचेरे भाइयों के साथ खेलता हूं और हम अन्य महिलाओं के साथ प्रार्थना करने के लिए घाट पर जाते हैं। वास्तव में यह एक अद्भुत अनुभव है और मैं हर साल इस त्योहार का इंतजार करता हूं।

छठ पूजा मनाने के पीछे की कहानियां

इस अवसर को मनाने के पीछे कई कहानियाँ हैं; यहाँ पर मैंने आपके लिए उनमें से कुछ का उल्लेख किया है;

• ऐसा माना जाता है कि जब पांडवों ने अपना सब कुछ खो दिया था, तब द्रौपदी ने इस व्रत को किया और एक बार फिर से सब कुछ धन्य हो गया।
• सूर्यपुत्र कर्ण भी भगवान सूर्य की प्रार्थना करने के लिए उनका ध्यान करते थे और परिणामस्वरूप, उन्होंने उन उपयोगी पाठों को सीखा।
• राम जी और सीता जी ने भी वनवास से लौटने पर 3 दिनों तक उपवास रखा और छठ माता की प्रार्थना की थी।
• एक राजा जिसका नाम प्रियव्रत था और वह बहुत निराश था क्योंकि उसकी कोई संतान नहीं थी। फिर, यह महर्षि थे जिन्होंने संतान प्राप्ति के लिए यज्ञ किया और राजा से अपनी पत्नी को यज्ञ की खीर देने को कहा। उसकी पत्नी ने वह खाया लेकिन जब उनके बच्चे हुए, तो वह मृत पैदा हुआ। राजा पूरी तरह से निराश हो गया, जब वह अपने बेटे की अंतिम यात्रा के लिए श्मशान गया, तो वह खुद को भी मारना चाहता था। तभी अचानक वहां एक दिव्य महिला प्रकट हुई, वह देवसेना जो षष्टी या छठी के नाम से जानी जाती थी, और उसने राजा से खुद को मारने के बजाय छठ माता की प्रार्थना करने के लिए कहा। उसने बस आखिरी मौका देने की सोची। जल्द ही उन्हें एक लड़के की प्राप्ति हुई जिसे पाकर वह धन्य हो गये और अब वास्तव में वह अपने जीवन में खुश थे।

लोग छठ माता की प्रार्थना क्यों करते हैं ?

छठ माता लोगों को समृद्धि, धन, बच्चे, सभी कुछ का आशीर्वाद देती है। वह हमारी सभी इच्छाओं को पूरा करती है और अपने भक्तों को आशीर्वाद देती है। लोगों का बहुत दृढ़ विश्वास है, इसीलिए हर साल वे इस अवसर को बहुत ईमानदारी से मनाते हैं। वह हमारे जीवन को आनंद और खुशी से भर देती है जो हम सभी को पसंद है।

जब लोग इस पूजा को करने के बाद दूसरों को खुश देखते हैं, तो वे अगले वर्ष से इस अवसर को मनाने की इच्छा रखते हैं और यह एक और मुख्य वजह है कि यह त्यौहार इन दिनों इतना ज्यादा लोकप्रिय होते जा रहा है।

हमारे त्योहार कुछ ऐतिहासिक घटनाओं पर आधारित होते हैं और वे हमारे लिए बहुत मायने रखते हैं। हम विभिन्न देवी-देवताओं से प्रार्थना करते हैं और अपनी बेहतरी की कामना करते हैं और एक अवसर को मनाते हैं। छठ पूजा उत्तर भारत के सबसे पारंपरिक त्योहारों में से एक है और वास्तव में नई पीढ़ी को संस्कार सीखना चाहिए और हमारी परंपराओं का पालन करना चाहिए।

Chhath Puja

The four-day Chhath Puja celebrations began across the country on October 28.

About chhath puja:.

• Dedicated to: Chhath is a Hindu festival dedicated to the Sun god and his wife Usha in order to thank them for bestowing the bounties of life on earth. The Goddess who is worshipped during the famous Chhath Puja is known as Chhathi Maiya (also known as Usha, wife of the sun god).
• Meaning of word chhath: The word chhath means sixth and the festival is celebrated on the sixth day of the month Kartika of the Hindu lunar Bikram Sambat calendar.
• Rituals: The festival is observed over a period of four days. They rituals include holy bathing, fasting, standing in water for long periods of time, and offering prayers and food to the setting and rising sun.
• Who observe it? The main worshipers, called Parvaitin, are usually women. However, many men also observe this festival as Chhath is not a gender-specific festival.
• Regions: The festival is observed most elaborately in Mithila Province of Nepal, Terai-Madhesh region of Nepal, Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand and UP. It is also more prevalent in areas where migrants from those areas have a presence.
