Creative Graphic Design Statements to Promote Yours

Table of Contents

Graphic design is a process of visual communication and problem-solving through illustration, typography, and photography.

When used effectively, graphic design can capture an audience’s attention, convey messages, persuade people to buy products or services and create lasting impressions. As a graphic designer, it is important that you are able to market your skills and talent to people. A  graphic designer personal statement  is meant to help you do that.

This article contains some great personal statements and how to craft a good one.

How to Create a Graphic Designer Personal Statement

If you’re looking to become a successful graphic designer, it’s important that you have a strong portfolio showcasing your best work. In addition to your portfolio, submitting a well-written personal statement can be beneficial in helping you stand out from the competition. Your personal statement should highlight your skills and why you chose to pursue a career as a graphic designer .

The process of creating a  graphic designer personal statement  can be broken down into three steps: brainstorming, drafting, and editing.

Brainstorming

Brainstorming entails coming up with creative ideas. To come up with awesome ideas for your personal statement, you’ll need to think about your experiences as a graphic designer.

Think of what makes you unique and why you want to pursue a career in graphic design. Once you have a list of topics to discuss, it’s time to start writing. You can check the personal statements of other graphic designers for inspiration during brainstorming.

The next step in creating your personal statement is drafting it. The draft should be around 100-500 words long and include all the information mentioned above. Make sure you proofread it carefully before submitting it; mistakes will only reflect poorly on your application.

At the editing stage, you should read through the statement to make sure you cover the basics of good writing. Editing is an important stage in the creation of any document, including personal statements.

During this stage, make sure that everything flows well together and that there are no grammar or spelling errors present. If necessary, get someone else to read over your statement, so they can provide feedback. After you’ve done your editing, you can submit the final version.

Sample Personal Statement Design and Textile

Shivers run down my spine as I am transported back to the darkest day of my life. As a toddler, I witnessed something so disquieting that I froze at that moment. I witnessed something so raw that, ever since, my impressionable mind has been in a frenzy – unable to recover from it. Then, I saw my mother trying to set herself on fire.

Standing helplessly in one corner, I was caught in a daze. Seeing your mother trying to give up on life like that is beyond disturbing. No one can ever understand where I come from as they have not walked my path.

However, the same past has transformed me into the strong individual I am today. Since that day, I decided I could not be at the mercy of a ruthless man, for my mother was my father. This epiphany gave me a goal. To become an independent woman and survive without being dependent on anyone.

That night something magical happened. Our guardian angel helped my mother reconsider her weak choice. We escaped the moment and moved back to my maternal grandparent’s house, leaving behind my father. I have never met him since.

Being a single parent, my mother struggled to make a living for her three infant children. She fought with all her might to provide us with every possible comfort. She taught us that, as do winters, springs find their way. Her aspiration has always been to make a better life for us.

Despite all the dark empty holes in her life, she taught me to make drawings and fill them with beautiful colors. And in art, I have found my escape. I draw my mind. The sun comes up every morning. Every day is a new beginning to a life full of different shades of hue. It’s charismatic. If you focus on the bright things, the dark emptiness disappears, the roots start to grow, and little buds of happiness form.

That’s why even in conversations, my mind wanders to what I want to draw next and how to fill it with colors. I am just optimistic that life will lead me to great heights. These are the things I have learned from being raised by a strong mother. A strong mother gives you the confidence to be who you want. You do what you want and aren’t afraid of expressing yourself.

In my case, I draw and construct designs. My mother has moved mountains, and so will I. Being a hardworking lady, my mother wasn’t always by my side. She worked tirelessly, so I used to spend most of my time with my grandfather. He, too, was a man of great wisdom. Unfortunately, by the age of 9, I lost him. I was broken and shattered. That was the moment I froze again. I had spent most of my childhood with him. He always encouraged me to grow and pursue my dreams to every possible limit. My life experiences represent my turmoil, resilience, and strength to conquer. I aspire to change my vision into reality now.

My philosophy behind Fashion and Textile design is more than designing clothes. The design never remains the same; it changes with the environment, just like life changes every minute. Some like to call it a fad. For me, every single design is a story to be found, heard, and felt. I speak through lines, designs, and colors. I channel my art into designs and fashion silhouettes. Fashion is beauty, enthrallment, and secrecy. Fashion is my passion. Hence, my work is a depiction of myself.

I have done my undergrad in Textile and Clothing. The degree comprised fashion illustrations inspired by drapery and designs that evoke emotions. The way it induces diverse sentiments is beautiful. I want to communicate different emotions to people and untangle the anonymity of how clothing can modify the environment.

My true passion for fashion flourished while doing my thesis in the final year of my undergrad. I developed color-therapeutic Adaptive Clothing for children suffering from cerebral palsy because I feel that color, design, and lines have the power to heal.

Currently, I’m working as an assistant fashion designer at Zara. At work, one of my responsibilities is to visualize ideas and transform them into tangible women’s fashion apparel. In addition, I develop fashion silhouettes for different fabrications and technical specifications of fashion cutlines using photoshop. Teamwork has helped me elicit sources of inspiration for seasonal range collections. This experience has made me confident and helped me contribute to a world where colors and designs speak of people’s minds. It’s an inspiring experience to know that a part of me lives in their stories.

This might be a chance for me to identify my local culture on an international platform. This will bring uniqueness and diversity to the entrepreneurial world of my country, where chauvinists oppress women. Being a strong woman, my mother has been an asset to me; it’s time for me to become an asset to other women.

I seek a long-term career where I can articulate my artistic talent and passion for fashion and open my mind by exploring the skills I could never do in any other field. My experience was unforgettable, and that surely made me what I’m today. I have armored myself in it. If I get this chance, I can gain a career that I’ll love for the rest of my life without regret.

Games Design Personal Statement Examples

Video games have captured my imagination since childhood, but it was the E3 2009 event that got me interested in how they were developed. The presence of gaming giants such as Nintendo and NaughtyDog highlighted the industry’s key position and power in multimedia, and I am becoming increasingly aware that gaming has grown to become the world’s largest entertainment industry in recent years.

As I have tried to create characters and worlds, my thirst for becoming a part of this has only increased. Drawing to digital modelling and animation, I have experimented with both physical and digital platforms, and I am convinced that studying Games Design at university is the right path for me. For the sake of driving visual innovation in gaming, I would love the opportunity to combine my talent for analogue drawing with computer software, pixel art, and animation.

My inspiration and influence have come from Naughty Dog developers, notably the Uncharted series, which combines stunning graphics with a thrilling character-driven story at E3 2009. As the creator of Zelda and Super Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto has created worlds and characters that remain iconic, enduringly playable, and versatile.

The development of my own games for smaller platforms, including independents and mobile applications, has motivated me to earn my place alongside these giants. In this course, I am especially interested in the creation of worlds and characters: the design, modelling, and editing of these aspects of games are crucial to their success, and I am eager to develop my graphics and rendering skills.

As a member of the biggest gaming forums on the net such as IGN and Gamespot, I’ve gained a good understanding of genres, visuals, and gameplay tools. During Portugal’s most exclusive gaming event in 2011, I had the opportunity to interview Uncharted 3’s creators about the game’s development. As I learned about the work and lives of the developers of my favourite franchise, I was inspired to follow my passion as they had, through constant gameplay, study, and dedication.

Arts and Multimedia, History of Art and Drawing, and IELTS 7.5 are all subjects in which I have achieved high grades at school. Multimedia class assignments involve managing a Tourism blog and acting as a designer, writer, and photographer, and I have also created a blog to showcase my portfolio and latest design work, a project I am very proud of. Throughout my studies, I have undertaken work placements at Anipop and IberAnime, allowing me to develop my ability to communicate as part of a team and solve problems.

In addition, I freelanced as a graphic designer for a web-based store, designing and developing banners and logos. During my school years, I was responsible for leading a class project of a painted mural, including choosing colours and lettering and organizing other students. The mural appeared on national TV, which gave me a unique sense of accomplishment. Later on, I organized the school LAN party: bringing my passion for games to others was a real motivator for me. As part of the TV network’s school communication department, I am also one of two managers.

In addition to being part of an international gamers’ community online, I’ve always considered myself a citizen of the world. The desire to bring my creations to life inspires me to complete my training in the UK and pursue a career in the most exciting industry on the planet.

As a child, I was always drawn to the creative and immersive worlds of video games. From the thrilling action of Super Mario to the intricate storytelling of The Legend of Zelda, I was constantly captivated by the endless possibilities of this medium. As I grew older, my love for games only deepened, and I became more and more interested in the design and development process behind them. This led me to pursue a degree in Games Design, which I am now eager to study at a higher level.

Throughout my time in secondary school, I took every opportunity to learn more about game design and development. I taught myself basic programming languages such as C++ and Java, and I even built my own simple games using software like GameMaker. As I gained more skills and knowledge, I began to participate in local game jams and hackathons, where I was able to collaborate with other like-minded individuals and bring my own game ideas to life.

In addition to my passion for games, I have also always had a strong creative streak. I have enjoyed drawing, writing, and storytelling for as long as I can remember, and I believe that these skills will be invaluable in my future career in Games Design. I am confident that my combination of technical expertise and creative flair will make me an asset to any game development team.

I am excited to apply for a degree in Games Design because I believe it will give me the opportunity to learn from industry professionals and develop my skills to the highest level. I am confident that with hard work and determination, I will be able to turn my passion for games into a successful career. I am grateful for the opportunity to study at your esteemed institution, and I hope to be able to contribute to the thriving games industry in the future.

Product Design Personal Statement

Building and creating is what sparked my interest in buildings and creating new things so when it came to school I favoured DT and followed this path on through my academic school life up to A-levels. The aspect I most enjoy is the problem solving side of it. Being given a basic problem and having to create a solution, the idea of creating something new that has never been done is exciting. Furthermore you are also helping people by making a product ergonomically usable for them or simply a better way of doing it for existing users. It is good to know what you are doing is making a difference.

I have always been practical and creative so I took my ideas outside of the classroom. As a hobby I BMX so after my first project in DT where I worked with wood in year 10, I was lucky enough to get timber and build myself a half pipe which has lasted many years. This helped me learn how to work with different tools and understand how structures work. This was a good learning curve to broaden my understanding and skills because of this small project I completed it has inspired me to keep on creating. Due to my development of skills and ideas I aim to create more complex projects than the ramp, at the moment I have been inspired by a programme (George Clarks amazing spaces). Since there is a lack of space for quiet undisturbed work area and an area to relax during the summer. From this I have drawn out a few designs for a shed and began to build up a project. It will be built at the back of my garden to be a studio/summer house, with only recycled pallets and other waste materials I can acquire. With all my projects I prefer to incorporate waste or recycled material because of the decline of resource over the years and the high price of premium timber however to make sure the structure is sound I will have to use new nail and screws etc. Otherwise rusty ones would compromise the structure which would be unsafe.

I am currently studying Product design, Geography and business. After looking around Universities on open days and the videos of all the fascinating projects you get to do, Product design was clearly the course I want to take. The way it is set out works well with my working style. It is a subject I thoroughly enjoy, I have been able to demonstrate this over my academic years due to me working well through the course and meeting deadlines.

I believe I am capable to be on the course but admit I have had to work hard on my perspective drawing and computer prototypes designs to get them up to a standard where I can portray my designs ideas across. I taught myself how to use google sketch up and was taught to use Spaceclaim and 2D design. If there is new programmes to learn on the course I will want to learn them because it will aid me in my future of Product design. Also this year I was awarded with a certificate for an outstanding achievement in AS design & technology: 3D product design due to me getting one of the highest results in my year.

Personally I am an outgoing, friendly and honest individual. I believe keeping active is important, I do this with my hobbies such as skiing and going to my local gym. I do this often due to realising that it helps to keep stress levels down so I can work efficiently without distractions. From playing team sports throughout my life I have learnt how to be effective in a team which helped me during my school life and will in the future to fit well into teamed work environment. Therefore due to my experiences this will help me fit into the course well and University life itself.

I look forward to carrying on my product design interest at a higher level as an undergraduate at your university so I can get my degree and carry on a career In Product design.
