The film is releasing today October 21, 2022, and let us see what Sivakarthikeyan offered to Telugu viewers on debut.
Story Review
The story of Prince is about a youngster who faces problems due to restrictions in society in his village. Anand (Sivakarthikeyan), a social teacher gets a huge shock when the people in his village decide to get him banned. Why the villagers decided to get Anand banned and what is the connection between his father Vishwantham(Sathyaraj), and British girl Jessie (Maria Ryaboshapka) to these developments, form part of the developments in Prince's life.
Artists, Technicians Review
The Story of Prince penned by KV.Anudeep of Jathi Ratnalu fame is very simple and he believed in creating humor out of it and entertaining viewers and score a hit. Anudeep tried to recreate the magic he created with his film Jathi Ratnalu but he failed to do so. Anudeep is failing to realize that he cannot continue in the same vein and come up with the same old formula for all the films without any powerful story. He believed only in slapstick comedy which at times worked but most of the time it failed ending up irritating the viewers. Just for a few comedy scenes, people are in no mood to come out to theatres as there are many such scenes available on Youtube. The story of Prince turned out to be extremely weak and routine and from then on his screenplay and direction turned out to be pathetic making viewers run towards the exit doors in the theatres.
Sivakarthikeyan is known for his ease in acting. He did full justice to his role with his dialogue delivery and comedy timing. Satyaraj did full justice to the role of Sivakarthikeyan's father. The scenes involving Sivakarthikeyan and Satyaraj came out quite well. Ukrainian beauty, Maria Ryaboshapka looked beautiful on screen but she got limited opportunities to showcase her talent. Despite Sivakartikeyan and Satyaraj trying their best to carry the film on their shoulders and, Maria Ryaboshapka trying her best to keep viewers glued to the screen, their attempts failed due to lack of real story in the film. Lot of Tamil actors and flavor robbed Telugu movie lovers the cinematic experience.
Thaman's music is ok and a couple of songs Bimbiiki Pilapi and Jessica are good. His background score made an impact. Manoj Paramahamsa's cinematography beautified the film with realistic visuals. Editing of Praveen left a lot to be desired but he cannot be blamed because had he used the scissors, there wouldn't have been any film.

Rating Analysis
Altogether, Sivakarthikeyan must have thought that he would conquer Tollywood by teaming with KV.Anudeep of Jathi Ratnalu fame after creating a market for himself with films like Varun Doctor and Don. But all his dreams came down crashing as KV. Anudeep instead of believing that a strong story and content are the recipe for success, doled out a silly story filled with scenes that are popular in comedy skits and youtube channels. With the atrocious story, senseless and spineless screenplay, and wayward direction, everything went awry. Altogether Prince turned out to be a novice. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 1.75 rating to Prince.

Prince Review: Silly, But Funny
Movie: Prince Rating: 2.75/5 Banner: Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP Cast: Sivakarthikeyan, Maria Riaboshapka, Sathyaraj, and others Story: Anudeep KV & Mohan Sato Music: Thaman S Cinematography: Manoj Paramahamsa Editor: Praveen KL Producers: Suniel Narang, D.SureshBabu, Puskur Ram Mohan Rao Release Date: October 21, 2022
Ever since “Prince” was announced, the film generated hype as it marks the combination of Tamil rising star Sivakarthikeyan and “JathiRatnalu” fame Anudeep. The bilingual hit the theaters today in Telugu and Tamil simultaneously.
Let’s find out whether Anudeep generates laughs again.
Story: Anand (Sivakarthikeyan) works as a teacher in school. His father Vishwanatham (Sathyaraj, a retired employee, wants his children to marry outside their caste or religion.
Vishwanatham is overjoyed when he finds his son fell in love with a foreigner Jessica (Maria), an English teacher in his son’s school.
The only problem is that Vishwanatham hates British people and Jessica turns out to be a British woman.
How will Anand resolve this issue and get married to Jessica?
Artistes’ Performances: Sivakarthikeyan became a huge star in the Tamil film industry with a series of hits like “Doctor” and “Don” and he is good at comedy. The role of Anand is in his zone. He pulls it off so easily.
Ukrainian actress Maria Riaboshapka suits perfectly. Sathyaraj is a huge asset to this film. He takes the responsibility of the main comedian. The film doesn’t have separate comedians. The comedy parts are taken care of by Sivakarthikeyan and Sathyaraj.
Premgi Amaren as a land grabber is neat. The film has only Tamil actors.
Technical Excellence: Thaman has given a peppy soundtrack. Two songs stand out – “Jessica Chilaka” and “‘Bimbilikki Pilapi”. The visuals are bright and colorful.
The film has a short running time but it gives a feel of a lengthy film due to its flimsy plotline.
Highlights: Anudeep’s mark dialogues The first half The climax comedy
Drawback: No emotional connect Repetitive jokes
Analysis Sathyaraj plays a character who boasts of himself as a very knowledgeable person. He tells his son’s girlfriend that he has mastery over the Telugu language. Around the same time, his son’s phone rings and the ring tone is “Lusku Tapa Lasku Tapa” song. She asks what that means. The funniness of this situation cannot be described in words. Only one would get it while watching. Then there is a five-minute comedy scene about “Bottle gourd” aka sorakaya. After this another worth mentioning scene is of the police station with Anand Raj and the friends of Shiva Karthikeyan. These are three sequences in “Prince" which make the audience laugh.
Anudeep has a peculiar style of comedy writing. His situations look silly but they work well if the actors can pull them off. Sivakarthikeyan and Sathyaraj have done their best in many places.
The comedy written here is for an educated A center audience. This cannot be relished by the C-center audience who doesn't know about bottle gourd and Cambridge. Such viewers may miss the taste in funny single liners.
Moreover, nativity is totally missing in the film with Tamil actors all over. There should have been a mix of Telugu audience like in pan India style films. Had that been done, the range of the film would have gone to the next level. Barring that limitation, everything goes well.
Anudeep ends his films well. In “Prince”, too, it ended on a funny note. All said, “Prince” is neither a laughing riot nor a boring watch. It lands somewhere in between. Like Anudeep’s previous movie, it is silly but offers some decent comedy portions.
Bottom line: Works in parts

Prince movie review: Sivakarthikeyan’s absurd comedy drama works in parts
Prince movie review: director anudeep’s brand of comedy is unique and might not be for everyone..
I should perhaps put a disclaimer that I haven’t seen Jathi Ratnalu , and so I found the comedy of director Anudeep pretty unique and largely silly in Tamil. Mind you, you don’t end up laughing at the film. The absurdity of it all is very much intended. Many stretches are laugh riots – especially the one around the bottle gourd. The heroine Jessica (Maria Ryaboshapka) asks the hero Anbu (Sivakarthikeyan) to take her to a good vegetable shop. They end up in a neighborhood store run by a couple. The wife proudly claims that she married the guy because he is well-versed in English. Yet, when Jessica asks for a bottle gourd, he doesn’t know what that vegetable is supposed to be. Neither does our hero. Now, the whole sequence is about two guys trying to save their faces in front of their loved ones. The exchanges are mindless, ludicrous, and silly… but they are outrageously funny. However, we don’t get those bits a lot in Prince, which is otherwise a mediocre fare.
The brain of Anudeep should be an exciting place. It is hard to articulate his sense of comedy, and harder to come up with things like how Anbu’s voiceover introduces his father Ulaganathan (Sathyaraj): “ Ivar thaan enga appa. Enna vida moothavaru (This is my dad. He is older than me).” I was caught off guard. I had to turn right and left to make sure that what I heard was right. A few more minutes into the film, I understood the brand of comedy. There’s nothing funny about the lines, the humour stems from how incongruous and absurd they are with the situation. How do you explain this emotional dialogue from Anbu towards the end of the film that tries to soothe his estranged dad: “ Pechu pottila jeichapa kuda, Appanu naan un pera thaanae sonane (When I won in speech competition, I proudly called you as my father).” What’s funny in stating the obvious, you might ask. Still, it’s hard to figure out why you are laughing at it. The moment you try to explain Anudeep’s sense of humour, you will end up missing the point. It’s neither sophisticated nor pedestrian… I would like to call it ‘ingeniously silly’.
All said and done, Prince as a film fails to keep you engrossed. It is so obvious that the hilarious stretches are connected by a generic thread about a love story between a Tamil guy and a Brit girl. Anbu’s father Ulaganathan is an anti-casteist villain. Son of a slain freedom fighter, he takes pride in denouncing caste, creed and religion, but when his daughter marries someone in the family, he is shamed. So, he warns Anbu that he should never marry anyone from the same caste. Anbu, a social science teacher, exceeds his father’s expectations by falling in love with his colleague Jessica, an English teacher. Not just caste, he transcends race, ethnicity, country, etc with his love. So, the conflict arises when Ulaganathan realises that Jessica is British. He doesn’t want someone from the country that enslaved Indians for two hundred years and who also killed his father.
However, ‘conflict’ is a strong word for a film that doesn’t take itself seriously even for a nanosecond. There’s only a semblance of a story that doesn’t move forward at all. You keep waiting for the next good stretch. If you were to watch the film on OTT, you would have skipped the customary bridges that connect the good stretches, and you would still not miss anything. Another redeeming factor of Prince is Sivakarthikeyan. Just his affable presence sets a good mood, and one should give it to him for experimenting with this unique humour. Perhaps, this is the most experimental movie in his career yet. When the film ended with the end card ‘Subam’, an obsolete practice in Tamil cinema, I realised that I won’t remember Prince for a long time. But that doesn’t seem to be the intention. The point is to make you laugh for those few stretches, and maybe it’s a win… after all.

Prince movie review: Sivakarthikeyan's charm makes this silly, quirky comedy fun
Prince movie review: sivakarthikeyan's charm and his chemistry with sathyaraj elevate this quirky but silly comedy to a fun watch..
Sivakarthikeyan ’s Prince could be described as an experimental comedy film. I use the word experimental because it isn’t wholesomely entertaining as some of his other films but at the same time it works as a quirky attempt at bringing forth a different style of humour. You could even call it silly humour, which worked beautifully in Anudeep’s last film, Jathi Ratnalu. In Prince, too, it works to a large extent and that’s what makes the comedy refreshing, if not wildly entertaining. The film works when you don’t take it seriously. Also read: Don review: Sivakarthikeyan’s film is a predictable but likeable coming-of-age drama
The plot is simple. It’s about a Tamil boy (Sivakarthikeyan plays Anbu) from a fictional village near Pondicherry falling in love with a British girl (Maria plays Jessica). Sathyaraj plays Anbu’s father (Ulaganathan) and he’s a staunch anti-casteist, who wants his son to marry outside their caste. When Anbu, a social science teacher, falls in love with his colleague Jessica (British), an English teacher, he hopes that his father would be proud of him to fall in love with someone from a different country altogether. Instead of extending his support for their love, Ulaganathan opposes the idea because his father was killed by the British during the independence struggle. Therefore, he doesn’t want someone from that country in his family.
The film relies a lot on quirky one-liners and wordplay. Anudeep’s style of comedy is not everyone’s cup of tea. If you loved what he did with Jathi Ratnalu, Prince won’t disappoint you. Even though the film is not consistently as funny as Jathi Ratnalu, the jokes do work wherever they’re used.
Nobody else but Sivakarthikeyan could’ve made Prince work to this extent. He holds the film together with his charming screen presence and his knack of doing comedy is unmatchable. Sathyaraj is equally good as the father and complements Sivakarthikeyan well in so many scenes. The chemistry between them really comes alive on the screen and it’s a treat to watch.
Prince, as the promos promised, ends up as a harmless romantic comedy. The comedy stretches work and generate ample laughs to keep you invested. The dull stretches do serve as a roadblock in an otherwise breezy story that touches upon the theme of fake nationalism.

What’s it about?
Anand (Sivakarthikeyan), a teacher in a Krishna district village, falls in love with Jessica (Maria Riaboshapka), a new recruit teaching English at the same school. Vishwanatham, Anand’s father,is an idealist who makes his son write in a letter that he will only marry outside of their caste. When Vishwanatham learns that his son is in love with a girl from a French colony, his joy knows no bounds.
Jessica, much to Vishwanatham’s surprise, is not a French girl but has British ancestors. Vishwanatham and his grandfather despise everything British. So, how do Anand and Jessica become one?
‘Prince,’ a dubbed version of the Tamil film of the same name, is the third film from director Anudeep, who rose to prominence with the comedy entertainer “Jathi Ratnalu.”
Anudeep, like ‘Jathi Ratnalu,’ wrote a silly and absurd storyline. He places little emphasis on the story and instead concentrates on the laughs. To some extent, he succeeds. In today’s world, can anyone imagine a father objecting to his son’s love because the girl is British? And the central conflict becoming patriotism versus humanity? It makes no sense unless we interpret it as a sly satire on the current political environment and fake nationalism.
If we don’t take the story seriously, there are a couple of funny scenes. There are some clever dialogues as well. When everyone is attentively listening to hero’s speech about humanity, a world without borders, he confesses that he heard the word “border” for the first time in his life when his mother was comparing her Saree border (bottom of the Saree) with neighbour auntee’s. You’d definitely jump out of your seat.
“Lusku Papa” and “Halamithi Habibo” are two satires on meaningless lyrics. Nonetheless, the film has a song with a meaningless phrase – Bimbilikki Pilapi.
‘Prince’ is, in fact, more of a collection of jokes or scenes than a story. We’ll see an episode about the Telugu meaning of “Bottle Gourd,” followed by another about movie lyrics, and finally about the meanings of Humanity and E = MC Square. Some dialogues are clever and witty. Sarcasm is also difficult to obtain.
Even mundane scenes in “Jathi Ratnalu” provided big laughs, thanks to the performances of Naveen Polishetty, Priyadarshi, Rahul Ramakrishna, and Vennela Kishore. There aren’t many jokes here.
Sivakarthikeyan has played his part admirably. He’s in his element. He’s also charming. Sathyaraj is a revelation. His comedic timing is flawless.
Maria, the newcomer, plays her part well.
Thaman has performed admirably among the technicians. The songs are catchy. The cinematography of Manoj Paramhamsa is vibrant.
Bottom line: ‘Prince’ has silliness, irreverence, and laugh-out-loud moments in equal parts. Some jokes are good, but they are repetitive.

Jathi Ratnalu fame Anudeep is back with a quirky comedy. This time he collaborated with Siva Karthikeyan and made it on large scale in Telugu-Tamil as bilingual. Did Siva Karthikeyan and Anudeep recreate the magic of Jathi Ratnalu and Varun Doctor? Did the duo live upto the expectations? Let’s find out.
Anand (Siva Karthikeyan) works as a social teacher in a small town. He falls for British girl Jessica (Maria Ryaboshapaka) who is his colleague. Anand’s father (Sathyaraj), who is a broad natured, unable to accept Jessica owing to her British nationality since his grandfather was killed by British. Jessica’s father turns against her love for his own reasons. Meanwhile, Jessica’s family land in the town is wanted by local Bhupathi this invites big troubles and leads to disturbances in their love story. How does Anand resolves it and wins Jessica forms the crux of the story.
Performances
Siva Karthikeyan is game for comedy. He does it again effortlessly. He slips into the role of Anand which is likely by youth and also has good principles. His comic persona drives the film forward. Jessica is good in emotional scenes. Sathyaraj does an impactful performance in a soft role. He generates fun. All the cast plays their parts well. The film intentionally has more Tamil actors which may affect the Telugu nativity.
Technicalities
Anudeep picked a wafer-thin plot which itself is quirky and comical. But he added his trademark comedy to make it even more hilarious. Visuals are refreshing, credit goes to cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa. Thaman, who is of late catering thumping background score and loud music, impresses with feel-good and soothing music.
Siva Karthikeyan Laugh Moments Dialogues & Music
Hero-Heroine Love Track Logics Goes For Toss
Audiences are still not out of pandemic fatigue which is why there is good scope for comedy films to work miraculously well at the ticket windows. Relying on the same, Anudeep, who is fresh from heat of Jathi Ratnalu success, attempted the similar feat. He is successful largely. He caters to fun-loving masses with irreverent humour. Siva Karthikeyan adds his touch to it.
Simply put, Prince is Jathi Ratnalu version 2.0 with different scale, set-up. It has all the elements to work. But the problem is it underscores on logics. The film delivers nonsensical laughs throughout. Siva Karthikeyan goes on delivering lengthy speeches reminding us of courtroom scene in Jathi Ratnalu. Yet, it worked. It keeps viewers in splits.
Kudos to Anudeep. Inanities all over the film. Even the supporting cast and side cast keep uttering inane lines generating fun. It is the humour quotient that keeps us invested in the film. The dominance of Tamil cast may affect the Telugu nativity and sensibilities. Dialogues deserve special mention as they bring cheer immediately. The makers rely on dialogue-humour. The hero-heroine love track needs more attention. It has no emotional connect.
Overall, the film has its moments. It only runs on laughs with no logics. Go for it if you want to keep your brains at home and enjoy the laugh ride in cinemas. It may not be another Jathi Ratnalu but Prince is Prince ( in Anudeep’s words).
Bottom line: All Laughs, No Logics!

Sivakarthikeyan and Maria Ryaboshapka starrer Prince hit the screens today. It is directed by Anudeep KV. Let’s check out the review:
In the opening of the movie whole village boycotts Anand (Sivakarthikeyan) for a mistake he made. Viswanadham (Sivakarthikeyan’s father) also agrees with the villagers and gets ready to disown his son. Then opens the flashback of Anand, who is irregular as a schoolteacher. He finds himself falling in love with a British woman, Jessica (Maria Ryaboshapka) who is teaching English at the same school. While he thinks his father will say yes to their marriage, he says no for a reason. How Anand won the heart of Jessica and how he changed his father’s mind forms the rest of the story.
On-screen performances:
Father and son duo Sivakarthikeyan and Sathyaraj steal the show with their stellar performance. Their combination scenes are funny. Yet Maria is very gorgeous onscreen. She has very less scope to perform because of her un-lengthy characterization. Premgi Amaren’s character is sure to surprise the audience. Rest of the characters are just fillers.
Off-screen talents:
S. Thaman with two chartbusters – Bimbiiki Pilapi and Jessica – delivered the needed background music for the film. Cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa did a fabulous job by presenting the best visuals. He picturized everything well. Anudeep as writer tried to stretch a silly line in his own formulatic way but falls apart. He established several silly moments and tried to extract humour out of them.
Plus Points:
- Sivakarthikeyan’s Performance
- Climax Episode
Minus Points:
- Silly Storyline
- Unfunny dialogues in many parts
Verdict: Prince is a madcap comedy that relies on silliness. However, it has an important message at its core. The comedy cooked by Anudeep worked in some places, but fell flat in others. The audience expected that a lot more jokes would have worked on the screen as it is an Anudeep film. However, the director disappointed them in a big way. So, think before you watch this movie.

Prince Movie Review: Sivakarthikeyan and Anudeep’s madcap flick offers sporadic laughs
Director anudeep’s prince is a madcap comedy that relies on silliness. the slapstick comedy worked in some places, but fell flat in others, says our review..
Listen to Story
- Prince hit the theatres on October 21 ahead of Diwali.
- The comedy film is directed by Anudeep.
- Prince features Sivakarthikeyan, Sathyaraj and Maria Ryaboshapka.
Release Date: 21 Oct, 2022
Sivakarthikeyan started his career as a stand-up comedian and rose to prominence with his witty one-liners. Today, he is a bankable star in the Tamil industry, who has several hit films under his sleeve. When a star like Sivakarthikeyen joins hands with Telugu filmmaker Anudeep, who is known for his slapstick humour, you expect fireworks on screen. Did their film, Prince, offer that?
Anbu (Sivakarthikeyan) is being ostracized by the village for a ‘mistake.’ His father Ulaganathan (Sathyaraj) also agrees with the villagers and gets ready to disown his son. Now comes the flashback. Anbu, who is irregular as a school teacher, goes to school regularly because of a British woman, Jessica (Maria Ryaboshapka). She joins the institution as a teacher. He eventually falls in love with her. While he thinks his father will say yes to their marriage, he says no for a reason. Ulaganathan’s father died in the freedom fight against the Britishers. How will Anbu convince his father and his father-in-law forms the story.
Anudeep’s strength lies in slapstick humour. With the films he has directed, he has established his style of humour which rides on silliness. And Prince is no exception. The film establishes several silly moments and tries to milk humour out of them. Imagine an entire stretch of comedy, just a ‘bottle guard’ that the heroine, Jessica, asks.
Prince, however, offers only sporadic laughs. This madcap film makes you laugh out loud in places but also falls flat on its face several times. Not all one-liners and jokes landed well. The first half of Prince borrowed a lot of the audience’s time to take off. One can handpick moments from the film where the comedy worked. Be it the Anandraj police station scene or the climax stretch about humanity, you see Sivakarthikeyan in full form. Even Sathyaraj is exceptional as the quirky father. Their combination scenes, especially the scene where he’s asked the meaning of Gummuratappura, are funny.
Also, Prince is a self-aware film. The director and the actors make fun of themselves and their previous works and it’s done supportively. That said, the major grouse with Prince are the stretches where the comedy fails to evoke laughs.
Here's the trailer of Prince:
Sivakarthikeyan is in his prime form as Anbu in Prince. His expressions and one-liners are perfect for the situation. And we can literally see the real Sivakarthikeyan playing to his strength on screen. Sathyaraj, as a veteran, explores comedy to a large extent in this film. Maria did a fair job in her debut performance. The real surprise is Premgi Amaren who played the role of land-grabbing mafia head, Boopathy. The audiences are so used to seeing Premgi Amaren in a fun role and to see him playing a serious (to some extent) was a new experience altogether.
Thaman’s music, especially Bimbiiki Pilapi and Jessica, are picturised well by Manoj Paramahamsa. Extra points for Sivakarthikeyan and Maria’s energetic dance moves.
Prince is a madcap comedy that tries to make the audience laugh throughout its runtime. But, you get only occasional laughs in the latter half.

Prince Telugu Movie Review & Ratings | Hit or Flop?
Prince Telugu Movie Review: Sivakarthikeyan previous movies ‘Doctor’ & ‘College Don’ released in Telugu without any expectations but became blockbusters that fetched profits to the producers and distributors. After this successful movies, he joined hands with Telugu director Anudeep of ‘Jaathiratnalu’ fame. Sivekarthikeyan played lead role in the movie ‘Prince’ directed by Anudeep that released in theatres today. Let’s get into the detailed review of this movie to know, if the comedy timing of Sivakarthikeya match with the comedy scenes written by Anudeep and to know if this duo have created the laugh riot in the theatres.
Bigg Boss 7 Telugu Vote
Anand is a teacher at a local school. He falls in love with a young British woman Jessica who works at the same school as an English teacher. He tries to win her over, which causes problems that come crashing down on them as they face the biggest battle of their lives: deciding whether or not to get married. Rest of the story is all about the struggles Anand has to face to get his love.
Cast & Crew
Prince movie cast includes Sivakarthikeyan, Maria Riaboshapka, Sathyaraj, Premgi Amaren, Anandraj and others. This movie is written & directed by Anudeep KV and produced by Suniel Narang, D Suresh Babu, Puskur Ram Mohan Rao. Music is composed by Thaman S and cinematography is handled by Manoj Paramahamsa.
Movie Verdict
Prince is a movie that should be watched with zero logics and with zero expectations. This movie neither has a strong story nor a conflict point that could connect with the audience in any way. Most of the scenes are filled with humor, but that alone won’t work in theatres, as audiences get exhausted with similar one liners from the start of the movie. Few love scenes in the first half were well written and executed with some fun added to it, but the conflict created regarding the love story and the scenes that follow later look very silly that makes you scratch your heads. With few comedy scenes that make us laugh, this movie ends without leaving any impact.
While it comes to acting, Sivakarthikeyan is very entertaining as usual and tried his best to pull off the movie on his shoulders with his comedy timing. Many scenes in the movie look silly, but Sivakarthikeya managed to cover those scenes with his acting skills. Maria Riaboshapka looks very beautiful on screen and gave a decent performance. It is fun to watch her dance for Indian mass numbers in the songs. Satyaraj was good to some extent, but looks over the top in few scenes. Premgi Amaren is okay and all other actors did their part as required for the story.
Technically Prince movie looks average. Songs composed by Thaman are not up to the mark, except ‘Jessica’ song. Even the background music is very loud in many scenes. Manoj Paramahamsa is one of the finest cinematographers in India, but the visually Prince is not that good and most of the frames are filled with overly bright colors. Editing of the movie could have been taken care of. Production values are good.
Director Anudeep KV was successful with his movie ‘Jathiratnalu’ as the comedy worked out in theatres, but it failed terribly when premiered on TV and many people bashed the movie for it’s brainless comedy scenes. He once again tried to entertain the audience with same type of comedy and we have to see how will audience react to the movie in theatres this time.
Overall, Prince is only watchable for few comedy scenes & lacks in story and other departments.
Plus Points:
- Few Comedy Scenes
- Sivakarthikeya
Minus Points:
- Unnecessary comedy

Prince review: Sivakarthikeyan is entertaining but deserves a better debut in Telugu
Director Anudeep KV disappoints as ‘Prince’ lacks the excitement and curiosity needed for a movie to keep the viewers engaged.

Sivakarthikeyan deserves a better debut in Telugu than 'Prince'. (@Siva_Kartikeyan/Twitter)
Not an exciting watch!

A Tamil-Telugu bilingual film, Prince starts with people in Devankottai village talking about Anand (Sivakarthikeyan) who is asked to leave the place. Anand starts narrating the story behind the incident.
Anand is a secondary school teacher who falls in love with his colleague Jessica (Maria), a British woman. His father Viswanath (Sathyaraj) is against endogamy and encourages his children to marry whomever they like – irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
However, Jessica’s father doesn’t like her association with Anand. Soon things start going wrong in the village and the locals ask Anand to leave the place.
What’s the reason behind their decision? Is Jessica’s father to be blamed or are the villagers have any role to play in this? Watch the movie to find the answers.
Entertaining in bits and pieces
Sivakarthikeyan’s Prince is a laughter riot. The first half is entertaining enough in some parts. Nevertheless, the second half is a bit boring; the main plot begins here though.
The film showcases Anand’s ordeal – convincing his father who doesn’t approve of his love upon learning that Jessica is British.
Sivakarthikeyan is an excellent performer. With every film, he proves that he is excelling in the art.
In Prince too, he did a great job as Anand. He is the reason why the movie got so much weightage. In fact, he is the only person who keeps tickling our funny bones.
Sathyaraj is quite entertaining in the film and demonstrates that he is a versatile actor.
Maria bagged a meaty role for her debut and did a decent job. Premgi pulled off his role with ease.
Director fails to meet expectations
In 2001, director Anudeep succeeded in making the audience laugh with Jathi Ratnalu starring Naveen Polishetty, Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna.
It’s natural for the viewers to expect the same kind of comedy and entertainment in Prince , too. But unfortunately, the flick doesn’t live up to their expectations.
It is entertaining in bits and pieces. There are times when you want to leave the theatre and take a break from the bad narration.
The dialogues are well-written. Anudeep managed to get them written in his style. The screenplay is good and so are the ways those dialogues are delivered with performance.
The colour tone and camera frames, visuals and beauty of the locations have been captured well by cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa. Music by Thaman is good to a certain extent.
#Prince is all yours now ?? Director @anudeepfilm ’s style of humour wil make you happy in this festive season ❤️ Enjoy this light hearted, simple yet fun film in cinemas with ur friends and family ?? #PrinceFromToday ? #PrinceDiwali ? pic.twitter.com/mriJdjDx3r — Sivakarthikeyan (@Siva_Kartikeyan) October 20, 2022
Interesting concept but poor execution
The expectations were really high since the day Prince was announced, especially since it’s Anudeep’s directorial. But it turned out to be a box office dud this festive season because the viewers have watched scores of movies with a similar storyline.
Prince , apparently, lacks the excitement the curiosity needed for a film to make the viewers sit through and watch. Few scenes appear to have been forcibly inserted, though they make you laugh.
The concept of the film is interesting but the way it has been executed and presented is certainly not.
When you have a hero like Sivakarthikeyan on board, it is important to keep his market and range in mind. But seems like Anudeep wrote a story without keeping all this in mind.
It would have been a lot better if he came up with a better story for Sivakarthikeyan to tell. It’s definitely not an exciting watch!

Prince Review – Nonsense Comedy
OUR RATING 2/5
CENSOR U, 2h 23m
What happens when a usually open-minded Viswanadham rejects his son’s love is the core plot of Prince. The movie’s overall story is about how Anand, aka Prince, changes the rigid mindsets of the people around him and the village. Performances Prince is the kind of movie that allows Sivakarthikeyan to play it to his strength and the galleries. He does well on both counts in his usual style. There are no big emotional moments like his previous flick in Prince. It is all entertainment, and he delivers it in abundance. It is aimed at his fans, and there is a star quality to it which might have a little less appeal to those not used to it.
Maria playing a British girl is a poor choice. She is expressionless. Even when so much is happening around Maria, she is clueless. No wonder, despite such obvious presence character-wise, she fails to register and is relegated to the back seat.
Analysis Anudeep KV of Jathi Ratnalu fame directs Prince. Like his previous film, Prince too, has a wafer-thin plot. It relies heavily on comedy to pull through the narrative.
The beginning of the movie sets the tone for what lies ahead. It also shows the potential issues that are possible with the narrative. The first thing that registers is the dialogue; there is a lot of talk by multiple characters and in between them. The second thing is weak characters.
Take Sathyaraj’s character, for example. He is a serious guy with respect to his views and worldviews, in general. But his action and words are all for comedy’s sake. It is the same with others as well, which never lets one connect or relate with the roles.
There is an undercurrent romance and drama in the story. But, again, the comedy overrides all the emotions. It is all about the writing and the gags pretty soon. Some of them work in the first half, for sure. The sequences where English names of vegetables are brought up is one among them.
The problem in Prince is since it uses gags for narrative, they run out of punches pretty soon. They progressively become sillier and don’t evoke a laugh.
After a decent interval block, one expected things to turn a bit dramatic, but verbal diarrhoea continued. There is more silly comedy in the second half. Unfortunately, most of it falls flat and has an outdated vibe.
The characters come together and talk and talk and talk. And that’s what the narrative is until the end. The resolutions to the minor conflicts are also dealt with humour with little emotion.
Whether good or bad, director Anudeep KV’s mark is all over. It strongly reminds one of his previous blockbuster flick writing-wise. The issue here is the artificial milieu and setting. The lack of rootedness is the biggest culprit.
The village backdrop seems to be chosen to have organic free flowing, rooted conversations. But in Prince, we have routine commercial movie characters inhabiting the space. They then do all formulaic things possible but keep the words earthy and rooted. It is this lack of sync which never allows us to be engaged with the proceedings. One just laughs at the few gags and then forgets them.
Overall, Prince is a routine commercial fare filled with Jathi Ratnalu kind of comedy. Sadly, it doesn’t work the intended way and leaves one frustrated. Even if one is okay with the silliest and outdated humour, the second half is bound to disappoint.
Music and Other Departments? S Thaman’s music is decent and goes well with the ‘commercial’ aspect of the whole narrative. The songs are timed and shot well. The background score, too, is decent.
Manoj Paramahamsa’s cinematography lends a visually rich palette to the movie even though it’s set in a village background. The artwork is good, and the production values are moderately adequate. The editing should have been much better. A day before the release, twelve minutes were trimmed. Looking at the film, well, all we can say is there is more scope in that regard. The dialogues are many and come non-stop, but only a few impress.
Highlights? Few Comedy Blocks First Half, In Parts Decent Production Values
Drawbacks? Outdated Comedy Non-Stop Cringe Dialogues Flimsy Story No Connect With Characters
Will You Recommend It? No
Prince Telugu Movie Review by M9News
Final Report:
The second half, too, runs on a formulaic narrative with back-to-back gags. Many of them miss the mark as it’s Jathi Ratnalu meets Jabardasth comedy without the unique characterisations of the former. Nothing looks organic. Full review coming shortly.
— Prince second half started. The local guy falling in love with British girl brings more issues to the village.
First Half Report:
Prince is a regular entertainer stuffed with a comedy of Jabardasth bits. Some punches work, and there are a lot of cringes as well. Everything depends on the second half now to see where Prince ends.
— Anand works as teacher. He falls in love with Jessica, his colleague who is a foreigner.
— Prince show started. Anand (Sivakarthikeyan) is being exiled from his village. His father Viswanadham (Satyaraj) is a social activist and a good hearted person in the village.

Prince Movie Review & Ratings | Hit or Flop?
Prince Movie Review : The Telugu versions of Sivakarthikeyan’s previous movies, “Doctor” and “College Don,” did better than expected at the box office. After making these successful movies, he worked with Anudeep, who made the movie “Jaathiratnalu.” The new movie “Prince,” which stars Sivekarthikeyan and was directed by Anudeep, just came out. Let’s take a closer look at this movie to see if Sivakarthikeya’s comedic timing works with the funny parts that Anudeep wrote and if the two of them were able to make people laugh out loud in the theatre.
Table of Contents
Anand is a teacher at a school in the area. He falls in love with Jessica, a young English woman who works at the same school as him as an English teacher. As they decide whether or not to get married, the most important choice of their lives, problems come up because he tries to win her over. The rest of the story is about Anand’s attempts to win over the woman he loves.
Cast & Crew
The cast of the Prince film includes Sivakarthikeyan, Maria Riaboshapka, Sathyaraj, Premgi Amaren, Anandraj, and more performers. Suniel Narang, D Suresh Babu, and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao produced the film, which was written and directed by Anudeep KV. The cinematography is handled by Manoj Paramahamsa, and the music is handled by Thaman S.
Movie Verdict
While seeing the movie Prince, you shouldn’t think about it or have any expectations. This movie doesn’t have an interesting plot or a conflict that could keep people interested in any way. Most of the funny parts aren’t enough to keep people in the theatres, though, because by the end of the movie, they’ll be sick of hearing the same one-liners.
Some of the love scenes in the first half were well-written, well-done, and even funny, but the conflict created by the love story and the scenes that follow it make no sense. There aren’t many funny parts, and the ending doesn’t leave much of an impression.
Sivakarthikeyan is just as funny as ever when it comes to acting, and he did his best to carry the movie on his shoulders with his funny timing. There are some strange parts in the movie, but Sivakarthikeya’s acting skills help him hide them. Maria Riaboshapka’s performance was fine, and she looked beautiful on TV. The Indian mass numbers in the songs are fun to watch her dance to. Satyaraj had some skills, but sometimes he seemed too good to be true. Premgi Amaren is fine, and the other actors all did a good job with their parts.
Prince’s music seems to have good technical quality. With the exception of “Jessica,” none of Thaman’s songs are very good. In several scenes, the background music is also very loud. Even though Manoj Paramahamsa is one of India’s best cinematographers, Prince doesn’t look good, and most of the frames have too much colour. The editing of the movie might have been done by someone else. Excellent quality of work.
Jathiratnalu, which was directed by Anudeep KV, did well at the box office because it was funny, but it bombed on TV and got a lot of bad reviews for being too funny. He tried to make people laugh again with the same kind of humour. We’ll have to wait and see how people react to the movie this time.
Overall, Prince is just funny in a few spots, but the story and other parts are weak.
Plus Points:
- Few Comedy Scenes

Editing is also fine. Verdict. On the whole, Prince is a passable comedy film. Sivakarthikeyan delivers his best but the film lacks the punch because of its weak storyline. Sathyaraj's performance stands out in the film. A few comedy scenes are enjoyable, especially in the first half and the climax.
