Website Inspiration: 20 Great Restaurant Description Examples

January 6, 2022

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Now more than ever, it happens on your restaurant's website.

Restaurants know the importance of a strong first impression. It's why they invest in exterior design, decorate their entranceways and train hosts to welcome guests with a warm smile.

Nowadays, however,  more than 70%  of diners visit a restaurant's website before deciding where to dine, which means the first impression happens long before they set foot on-premises. It happens online. And when it does, the restaurant description plays a pivotal role.

Despite this, many restaurants struggle to write an effective description for their website. Doing so requires a mix of skills not every restaurant has — writing, design and a keen understanding of digital user behavior — but there are tools in place to make the job easier. For example, if you  build your website  with BentoBox, full-service designers can help create your website on a template that is proven to be user-friendly. That takes care of the design and user behavior hurdles.

To help overcome the writing hurdle, we've created the resource below. In addition to defining best practices, we have curated 20 examples of effective restaurant descriptions and analyzed why they work. If you don't know where to start or feel stuck, scroll through these examples and see if they spark new ideas.

How Do You Write an Online Restaurant Description?

A good restaurant description needs to make a strong first impression on would-be diners. This means the writing should be grammatically sound and typo-free — but it also means the content should make strategic sense for your brand. There are several keys to doing this correctly:

Define your objective.  As you'll see in the examples below, descriptions that work for some restaurants would fall flat for others. A cocktail lounge might want its description to be a call to adventure, while a sandwich shop might simply want to say it has the lowest prices in town. Define the main thing you want your audience to know or feel, then use that as a north star to guide your writing.

Outline key points.  Now that you know your objective, write down all the key messages you want to communicate. Sort them into tiers of importance, and be honest about what is "nice to know" versus what is "need to know." Digital attention spans are short, so if you try to include every selling point — rather than just the essentials — readers will gloss over your description. The more information you ask them to retain, the less they actually will.

Consider the visuals.  As you determine the best way to communicate "need to know" messages, remember that text is not the only way to communicate. Many of the examples below use design and photography to reinforce their key selling points. This reduces how much text you need and helps solve the attention span issue mentioned above, but to do it correctly across devices, you'll need a well-designed website platform .

Edit & ask for feedback. There's a famous saying in the writing industry: "writing is rewriting." In other words, your first draft always needs work, and the real craft of writing comes in making that first draft better. When you have something down, read it over for typos but also play around with different word choices and sentence structures. Ask people you trust for feedback. If you do this well, you'll only have to do it once. It's worth investing a little extra time.

The examples below are designed to help with this process. It may be helpful to bookmark this page and refer to them while you write and edit. Or, you can view them all now and see if any stand out as starting points.

Restaurant Description Examples: With Headlines

The first 10 examples use headlines, or bold text above the main description, in rhetorically interesting ways. Headlines are optional in restaurant descriptions, but when used right they capture attention and reinforce key messages.

1. Bubby's

restaurant description essay

Description Text

SERVED EVERY DAY SINCE 1990

Bubby’s opened on Thanksgiving Day 1990. Chef / Owner Ron Silver began baking pies and selling them to restaurants and his neighbors out of a small kitchen at the corner of Hudson and North Moore St. in Tribeca. Today, NYC’s beloved restaurant and pie shop celebrates 27 years of classic, made from scratch American cooking.

Why It's Effective

Rather than calling itself a “New York institution” or using the word "reliable," Bubby’s uses its headline to make a specific claim — ”Served every day since 1990” — that demonstrates those ideas. This captures more attention and paints a richer, more vivid picture of its history and role in the community. The rest of the description supports this by adding details to the story of its founding and explaining that even three decades later, its scratch approach to cooking remains the same.

2. Old Ebbitt Grill

restaurant description essay

Description Text (abridged)

THE OLDEST SALOON IN WASHINGTON

The Old Ebbitt Grill, Washington's oldest saloon, was founded in 1856 when, according to legend, innkeeper William E. Ebbitt bought a boarding house. Today, no one can pinpoint the house’s exact location, but it was most likely on the edge of present-day Chinatown.

As a boarding house, the Ebbitt guest list read like a Who's Who of American History. President McKinley is said to have lived there during his tenure in Congress, and Presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Andrew Johnson, Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt and Warren Harding supposedly refreshed themselves at its stand-around bar.

Like Bubby's, Old Ebbitt Grill uses its headline to make a specific claim that paints a vivid picture. This claim — "The oldest saloon in Washington" — is even bolder and more eye-catching, especially with the black-and-white photo beside it. The description delivers on the promise of the headline, listing the U.S. presidents who have frequented the famous saloon. Instead of explicitly stating, "Old Ebbitt Grill has a rich history," this approach paints a picture that helps people  feel  the history.

restaurant description essay

Description Text

SAY NO TO MEATS ON DRUGS

The fabric of Cutlets was born out of love and respect for these humble deli creations, met with a desire to bring quality ingredients to the table. Simply put, we’re here to bring you a sandwich experience you can feel good about.

This headline — a parody of the 1980s-era  Just Say No campaign  — does three important things simultaneously:

Captures user attention.

Establishes the brand as fun & playful.

Introduces a key selling point of the restaurant (natural ingredients).

It's rare for one line of copy to accomplish so much so quickly, but when it happens, it's extremely powerful. Cutlets combines this description with a carousel of high-resolution food photography, which rounds out the homepage and leaves a strong impression on future diners.

4. Los Tacos No. 1

lostacos1.com

restaurant description essay

BIENVENIDOS

Los Tacos No. 1 was created after three close friends from Tijuana, Mexico, and Brawley, California, decided to bring the authentic Mexican taco to the east coast.

The authentic taste comes from family recipes and from fresh, simple and tasteful ingredients straight from home. In every taco from LOS TACOS No. 1 there is a bit of true Mexican culture and flavor.

The headline welcomes guests in Spanish, and then the description switches seamlessly to English. This is a fitting introduction to Los Tacos No. 1, the brainchild of partners from both sides of the Mexican-American border, who brought their authentic recipes to New York City. The illustrations between the headline and description represent the four fillings on their menu — beef, chicken, pork and cactus — and channel the restaurant’s lighthearted character. Click the link above and you’ll see that the icons animate when users scroll past them, one of many cool design features available through the  BentoBox website platform .

5. Ci Siamo

cisiamonyc.com

restaurant description essay

colloquial phrase; [CHee see-aH-mo]

We’ve made it! We’ve arrived! We’re here!

Ci Siamo bridges the traditional with the contemporary, bringing live-fire cooking, housemade pasta, and a robust Italian wine list to the heart of Manhattan West.

Ci Siamo begins its description by translating its name into English, mimicking the style of a dictionary. It could have written something straightforward like, "Ci Siamo is Italian for 'We've made it! We've arrived! We're here!,' but the dictionary tactic adds a playful twist on top of that. This is important because Ci Siamo is not a strictly traditional brand; it's a brand that seeks to "bridge the traditional with the contemporary." Thanks to its description, that comes across loud and clear.

6. Baba's

babashotchicken.com

restaurant description essay

DELICIOUS, AUTHENTIC NASHVILLE HOT CHICKEN

A chicken sandwich is only as good as its ingredients. That's why we import our spices and use top-quality ingredients in each of our Nashville Hot Chicken tenders, as well as our other offerings.

We pride ourselves in following the traditional Hot Chicken seasonings and processes used in Nashville, the birthplace of Hot Chicken. From dry spice to the classic hot oil, our Hot Chicken is as Nashvillian as it gets!

Baba's is a Nashville hot chicken chain that operates across California. In nearly every sentence, the headline and description on its homepage stress that it is  authentic  Nashville hot chicken — not some cheap West Coast imitation. When your restaurant has a well-defined value prop like this, the description is no place for subtlety; you want to hammer it clearly, concisely and continuously. Baba's does this with text and then validates it with loud, in-your-face, food photography.

itsteranga.com

restaurant description essay

AFRICAN SUPER FOOD

Here, ancient customs and future trends coexist, and the intricacies of African culture blend seamlessly together over an Ethiopian-brewed coffee, or a bowl of Senegalese black-eyed pea stew and a side of spicy Ghanaian plantains.

Inspired by our Co-Founder and Executive Chef Pierre Thiam’s mission to share African culture through food, Teranga reflects the depth, richness, and vibrancy of Africa’s diverse culinary traditions in a modern, fast-casual setting.

WELCOME HOME.

After capturing attention with the headline, the first sentence of the description gives three examples of menu items, each one using a different African country in the adjective:  Ethiopian-brewed  coffee,  Senegalese  black-eyed pea stew,  Ghanaian  plantains. This is a deft illustration of the menu concept, which blends the diverse tastes of African cuisine into one cohesive experience. The description also ends with an inviting piece of copy, "Welcome Home," that stands out due to colorful text design.

8. PLNT Burger

plntburger.com

restaurant description essay

CHEF-CRAFTED FAST FOOD FOR THE FUTURE.

PLNT Burger is dedicated to serving the best burgers on the planet, and for the planet!

Earlier, we mentioned the importance of separating "need to have" messages from "nice to have" messages. No restaurant on this list does that better than PLNT Burger, which communicates its value prop and establishes a cheeky brand voice in two short lines of copy (three if you count its name). Rather than bogging down its homepage with details and specifics, the plant-based fast-food chain shares a simple, compelling message about what it offers and why, along with a clever play on words. If users want to learn more, the  About page  linked in the main navigation has them covered.

9. The Green Room

tgrburbank.com

restaurant description essay

AN IMMERSIVE AND SEDUCTIVE COCKTAIL LOUNGE HIDDEN IN CASTAWAY BURBANK

The Green Room is fashioned after the green rooms in theaters and studios where performers relax when they are not on stage or camera. Everyone is a star at The Green Room with our immersive cocktail experiences, VIP service and the best views of the city.

The headline leads with descriptive words like "immersive," "seductive" and "hidden," which draw the user in and make them want to learn more. The description then delivers on that intrigue, explaining that the lounge is fashioned after backstage green rooms in theaters and on movie sets. That's a bold claim, but the full-bleed photos of the restaurant's sprawling views, along with the gold trims and fonts throughout the website, help position The Green Room as a place where regular people feel like stars.

10. She Wolf Bakery

shewolfbakery.com

restaurant description essay

Description Text  WE STARTED BAKING BREAD IN 2009 IN THE WOOD OVEN AT ROMAN'S.

After dinner service, we would make a fire. Early in the morning, our baker Austin Hall would come in, rake out the coals and bake bread for the day. This bread became a part of Roman’s at every service and staff meal. Soon the chefs at Marlow & Sons and Diner wanted to bring the same quality and integrity to the bread they served.

We expanded bread production to our own space in Greenpoint, and now supply the bread served at all of our restaurants and others around the city. You can also purchase loaves to take home at Marlow & Daughters, Stranger Wines, Roman’s, and Achilles Heel, as well as at nine NYC Greenmarkets. Why It's Effective

This description reads like an origin story, and it's written in a way that perfectly suits the brand. The first-person perspective, natural word choice and short, active sentences make it feel like the restaurant's owners are speaking directly to the audience through the screen. This mirrors the underlying theme of the story: that She Wolf Bakery grew through connection and community, and that you can trust every loaf to have a personal, artisan touch.

Restaurant Description Examples: No Headlines

The next 10 examples either don't use headlines or use them in straightforward ways (e.g., "About Us"). This more minimalist approach can still be effective, though it may require visuals to play a larger role capturing user attention.

11. Gramercy Tavern

gramercytavern.com

restaurant description essay

One of America's most beloved restaurants, Gramercy Tavern has welcomed guests to enjoy its contemporary American cuisine, warm hospitality, and unparalleled service in New York City for over two decades. Chef Michael Anthony's ever-evolving seasonal menu showcases the restaurant's relationships with local farms and purveyors.

Opened in 1994 by restaurateur Danny Meyer in a historic landmark building just north of Union Square, the restaurant has earned nine James Beard Awards, including "Outstanding Restaurant" and "Outstanding Chef in America.”

Upscale restaurants sometimes overwrite their descriptions, using flowery language that sounds posh and sophisticated but doesn't convey a clear point. Gramercy Tavern uses simple adjectives like  contemporary  American cuisine,  warm  hospitality and  unparalleled  service, which paint a clear picture while still projecting confidence and authority. The use of plain language in the first sentence primes readers for the second sentence, where the restaurant mentions its nine James Beard Awards in a way that feels matter-of-fact and informative, rather than arrogant and showy.

12. Big Gay Ice Cream

biggayicecream.com

restaurant description essay

Beginning as a seasonal food truck in 2009, Big Gay Ice Cream has been named best ice cream parlor—as well as best food truck—in the country, along with numerous other accolades. Now the company has multiple locations in New York City & Philadelphia.

Over the last 10 years, founders Douglas Quint & Bryan Petroff have published a critically acclaimed cookbook; appeared on numerous tv programs; put on Big Gay Ice Cream pop-ups at festivals around the world; collaborated with a variety of international brands; spoken at a variety of conferences & seminars, including giving a TED talk; & taken the ice cream truck on tours across the country.

Although the style — and the business — is very different, Big Gay Ice Cream employs a similar approach to Gramercy Tavern. The first paragraph of its description explains the brand's humble origins as a seasonal food truck, which primes readers for the second paragraph, where it mentions various milestones and accolades. This description approach and the web page design, which resembles a scrapbook with polaroids, positions Big Gay Ice Cream as it wants to be positioned: a global sensation that remembers where it came from.

13. the girl & the fig

thegirlandthefig.com

restaurant description essay

the girl & the fig is located in the beautiful Sonoma Plaza and features a wonderful antique bar with French aperitifs, unique and traditional cocktails, an award-winning Rhône-Alone wine list, a seasonal menu, cheese & charcuterie platters, outdoor garden patio seating & outdoor parklet seating.

This description is only one sentence, but it's packed with information. The writing is taut and straightforward, and the long list of restaurant features it lists — seven in total — projects a sense of understated confidence. Had the list of features been shorter, a one-sentence description like this might feel sparse. Instead, it feels quite inviting, like the restaurant believes so strongly in its offerings that it doesn't need to dress them in glittery language.

14. Death & Company

deathandcompany.com

restaurant description essay

It was thought that to drink alcohol was to live a life shadowed by death; that those who drank were keeping company with death. It's taken us nearly a century to restore flavor to the drink and class to the specialty cocktail. In our time, a night to celebrate life's simple pleasures with fine wine, exquisitely crafted cocktails, beautifully prepared food, and impeccable sipping spirits is a rare gift.

To those who shun the night, we tip our hat. To those who shine after dusk, we offer a warm embrace.

Welcome to the new golden age. Welcome to Death & Co.

Death & Company's description reads like a call to adventure. In fact, it also reads like one of the most famous ads of all-time, Apple's " Here's to the Crazy Ones ," which didn't so much sell computers as it sold the brand's DNA. In similar fashion, this description is a brooding ode to alcohol and nightlife; to people who order cabs out instead of in at 1:00 AM. This is an effective approach for a cocktail lounge, which relies more on emotional than logical motivators to get people through the door.

15. The Wilder

intothewilder.com

restaurant description essay

I am a feeling. Like swimming under a waterfall, biting into a juicy peach, dancing till the sun comes up, holding hands with someone you love, having that third mezcal, eating berries fresh from the vine, watching your favorite film, a blue sky without a cloud in sight. I am everything that makes you remember you are alive and life is beautiful.

Even more than Death & Co., this description uses literary prose to read like a call to adventure. It is extremely avant-garde, framed like a letter from The Wilder to the reader, comparing the upscale lounge to a list of free-spirited actions like "dancing till the sun comes up" and "eating berries fresh from the vine." This approach would fall flat for many restaurants, but for a South Florida nightlife spot that appeals to guests through emotion more than reason, it's spot on. A plain description of the lounge space is the approach that would fall flat.

suerteatx.com

restaurant description essay

Located in the heart of East Austin, Suerte is an award-winning restaurant driven by a passion for masa, an ingredient at the heart of Mexican cooking. Chef Fermin and his team curate a seasonally driven menu with an emphasis on bringing together traditional Mexican cooking techniques with local Texas ingredients to create a unique and exciting dining experience.

Our bar offers some of Mexico's most unique agave and succulent spirits state-side, as well as highlighting a rotating selection of natural wines and craft cocktails.

The first sentence of the description clearly outlines something unique about the restaurant: its passion for masa. This establishes the "traditional" component of Suerte's menu, which blends traditional Mexican cooking with local Texas ingredients. The photo beside the description further amplifies this idea, showcasing traditional Mexican art while establishing a bright, exuberant visual style for the brand. When image and text work in harmony like this, it can be extremely powerful.

17. Craigie on Main

craigieonmain.com

restaurant description essay

“It all starts with ingredients. We’ve been working closely with farmers and fishermen since 2002. They are the first people I talk to each morning!

Many of my culinary values are the same ones you’ll find in 90% of the world’s grandmothers.

That said, you’ll find me on the leading edge of most culinary techniques and ingredients.

I work to match just the right food and wine combinations (sometimes they are unexpected)

I serve nothing that is not in season.

I look forward to hosting you soon."

Craigie on Main's entire description is a quote from chef/owner Tony Maws. Speaking directly to the reader, Maws describes his homestyle cooking approach, explaining that farmers and fishermen are the first people he talks to each morning and comparing his culinary values to "90% of the world's grandmothers." The use of first-person perspective helps the quote come across as sincere and authentic, positioning the brand as a restaurant run by artisans.

18. Rosalie Italian Soul

rosalieitaliansoul.com

restaurant description essay

“At Rosalie, the world feels like a bubbling Italian Restaurant, with an infinite strand of pasta connecting everything and everyone.”

– Chris Cosentino –

Rather than a long, manifesto-style pull quote, Rosalie's homepage features a short, abstract thought from chef/owner Chris Cosentino. The quote does provide some important information — establishing Rosalie as a "bubbling Italian restaurant" — but more than that, it adds a dash of whimsy to Rosalie's brand. It's a captivating description that makes users want to learn more, which they can do by clicking "About Us" for a longer description or coming in to experience the space firsthand.

19. Crown Shy

crownshy.nyc

restaurant description essay

Crown Shy is the first solo project of Chef James Kent and Restaurateur Jeff Katz. Inspired by James’ upbringing in downtown New York and his experience leading the city’s most celebrated kitchens, Crown Shy is a neighborhood seasonal restaurant elevated by fine dining training and technique.

Located on the ground floor of Art Deco masterpiece 70 Pine Street, the dining room and bar occupy a series of rooms with floor to 16-foot-ceiling windows leading to an open kitchen.

The food at Crown Shy is rooted in European technique but draws inspiration from around the world, primarily the flavors from our childhoods, traveling, and the diverse cuisine in New York City.

Before users even start reading, the Art Deco-inspired logo and background image establish a refined mood. The description text delivers on that mood with upscale words such as "celebrated," "elevated" and "masterpiece." Supplementing all of this, the page lists more than 20 staff members, including management, kitchen and dining room. This decision — and the decision to use the same text design as the rest of the description — shows that the restaurant's people are central to its identity, which positions the brand as personal and human.

restaurant description essay

An austere experience, where richness is lived through the purity of ingredients, the combination of extraordinary flavors, and the story of their origin.

From the Imaginarium of Carlos Gaytán, the first Latin American who earned a Michelin Star.

This example is best viewed at the link above, where you can see how it uses scrolling to break up the text. Although readers only see one piece of the description at a time, it reads like one cohesive thought. This unique approach to telling the restaurant's story primes users for what Tzuco promises: an imaginative meal where the story of the food is central to the experience. Describing Chef Gaytán's mind as an "Imaginarium" adds even more whimsy and intrigue.

Clark County Schools Introduce Cell Phone Pouches to Enhance Learning Focus

23 of 25 students admit chatgpt use after professor’s amnesty offer, how to cite a tweet, teachers seek ai training – more than 70% had none, my favorite restaurant: rivenee’s essay sample, example.

Admin

As a child, I was not fond of eating out. My family would eat at a restaurant, diner, or buffet at least once a week, often more than once. Every time we went anywhere, but for a little place called Rivenee’s , it was a challenge for my parents to find proper food and a nice atmosphere. Rivenee’s was that lucky exception—I loved the place and this made my parents love it too. The restaurant seemed magical and fascinating to me when I was an elementary school kid, and surprisingly, the place still fascinates me today. Recently, when I visited my old family house for Thanksgiving, I was astonished and pleased to find out the place still operated and, in fact, was still run by the same family. Apart from the house in which I grew up, Rivenee’s is probably the dearest place to me in the small town, just outside of San Ramon, where I was born and raised.

Rivenee’s is a small and cozy place, and this is what probably garnered my love of the restaurant initially. This, and the people who worked and still work there. Unlike more spacious restaurants, diners, and chain buffets my parents also took me to, Rivenee’s was a family-owned business run by a middle-aged couple, Janette and Derek. When I think about them now, I still remember their warm smiles and sincere care for each customer and employee. Mrs. Jan, as I would call her, loved orange shades, both in her outfits and in the restaurant’s interior decor. Warm orange and yellow-pomegranate furniture, sunny-colored napkins and curtains, country-style hard wooden tables and stools at the bar—everything was solid and comfortable about the place. Mrs. Jan would always have orange in her outfit— to match the place, as I then thought. Be it a bright orange ribbon in her hair, or a peachy neat cotton dress, or red nail polish—this woman belonged to the place like nobody else, and I doubt it was only the external resemblance.

Her husband Mr. Derek was older, with graying hair and a miniature mustache, which made him look a bit strict to me at the time. But the moment he started talking with his deep, soft, and half-laughing voice, with that particular tender frog-in-the-throat vibe, he would make me listen to his every word with an open mouth. The man was like a magician to me: mysterious and a bit scary even, yet so fascinating and magnetic. There was his daughter as well, the first love of mine. She was a blonde pony-tailed girl of 7 or 8 with cute bangs, lively, and active. She would be running around the place, attracting the attention of visitors with her sonorous laughter that made you laugh in return, or at least smile back at the small, sunny creature cruising around the place.

When I visited Rivenee’s after all these years, the memories flashed back through my mind in a heartbeat, and I suddenly felt like a child again. The place was still an illuminating planet of orange and light, yet comfortably relaxing and pulsating with fresh energy. I instantly felt like I was home, and a big bouquet of freshly cut wild daisies, neatly tied with an orange ribbon made me think of Mrs. Jan. The food tasted the same—crispy and puffy home-made corn bread was my favorite part of the meal then, and it tasted like it did in my childhood to me now. My parents still eat at Rivenee’s from time to time, still order their favorite specials and enjoy the evening with Mrs. Jan and Mr. Derek, remembering the good old times.

Writing an Effective Restaurant Description

Restaurant descriptions can go a long way. Readers get a clearer idea of what to expect when they step through the doors. An effective restaurant description might touch on key areas such as the restaurant’s ambiance, menu, and setting. It might also include information on dining specials. It all depends on your goals. Whether you’re working on a restaurant guide, updating your restaurant brand, or preparing promotional material, the following are some of the key elements to writing a restaurant description that works .

1. Describe the Type of Restaurant

A good way to start a description is by identifying the type of restaurant. While restaurants come in different forms, most fall into five broad niches:

  • Casual dining
  • Fine dining
  • Contemporary casual
  • Pub/sports bar
  • Café/bistro

Each of these offers a different dining experience. For instance, casual-dining restaurants typically serve comfort bites in a relaxed space. In contrast, fine-dining restaurants serve upscale meals in refined dining rooms that might have a formal dress code. Sports bars are a popular pick with sports fans because they combine food with alcoholic beverages and TV entertainment. On the other hand, cafés and bistros offer coffee and pastries in relaxed, intimate surroundings that may also include an outdoor area.

2. Provide Details About the Restaurant Location

Improve your description by including details about any nearby landmarks. Guests can track down the dining spot using the landmark as a guide. Landmarks can also help diners plan their day. Restaurants located close to shopping districts tend to be popular with shoppers looking to refuel. And tourists are frequently on the lookout for great dining spots located near popular museums or local tourist attractions.

3. Cover the Restaurant Menu

This is a no-brainer. A good description should highlight the menu options offered by the restaurant. After all, meals are the heart and soul of every restaurant. Start by identifying the options. Does the restaurant serve contemporary fare, Italian cuisine, or French cuisine? Be sure to provide details on some of the signature dishes and dining favorites. Your description should include information on any weekly or daily specials. It should also have useful information on the menu options. Does the restaurant serve gluten-free dishes? Will visitors find low-calorie or low-fat cuisine? Are vegan dishes an option? If you’re covering an ethnic restaurant, be sure to use proper ethnic names with specialty dishes for added authenticity. Your description should also provide details on the beverage menu, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. And don’t forget to give readers an idea of the price range for standard items or meals.

4. Provide Information on Special Features

Wrap up your restaurant description by highlighting any special features that might appeal to specific diners. For instance, some family-style restaurants serve food in large platters, making them an excellent fit for group dining. Some restaurants have an open kitchen so guests can watch the chefs work their magic. Restaurants may also offer buffets during certain hours or happy hour specials. Once you’re done with your description, don’t forget to fact-check and review it. You could also get a second opinion by having it proofread by a professional editing service .

How to Describe a Fancy Restaurant in a Story

By Brittany Kuhn

how to describe a fancy restaurant in a story

Do characters in your novel go out for a meal at a swanky restaurant? If you’re wondering how to describe a fancy restaurant in a story, scroll down to learn about 10 words that will help you.

1. Luxurious

  • Containing the best features.
  • Pleasurable to the extreme.
  • Characterized by wealth or plenty.

“Eating in such a luxurious restaurant was not something he expected to be doing today.”

“Even the salt and pepper shakers were fancy in this luxurious restaurant.”

How it Adds Description

Luxurious often describes items or places that are extremely remarkable. When used to describe a fancy restaurant, luxurious evokes images of gold and silk decorations, plush chair cushions, and tasty, decadent food. There are usually two types of characters who would be eating in a luxurious restaurant: those who are uber-wealthy and feel like they are the only ones worthy of eating there, and those who feel unworthy because they aren’t rich enough to eat there.

  • Appealing to wealthy or affluent people.
  • Of higher quality.

“She couldn’t believe that he had brought her to such an upscale restaurant on their first date.”

“He had hoped the upscale restaurant would impress her.”

We use upscale when we want to emphasize that people with money and sophisticated taste are attracted to this business or item. If a fancy restaurant is described as upscale , then a reader might imagine people dressed in business suits (if it is lunchtime) and fashionable dresses with expensive jewelry or handbags.

Sophisticated or cultured.

“The refined restaurant attracted only the most upper crust diners in New York City.”

“There was nothing out of place in the refined restaurant; every flower was pruned to perfection, every tablecloth pressed within an inch of its life.”

If you want to focus on how perfectly put together the restaurant seems instead of what kind of customer based it has, then describe it as refined . Refined suggests that the restaurant is of such high quality that time has been taken to ensure every element is exactly as it’s meant to be: from the place settings to the food presentation to the service.

Definitions

Having too much of something.

“The lavish restaurant had an overabundance of frills and lace; it was a bit too much for my taste.”

“We could not wait to try the food at such a lavish restaurant.”

Lavish implies having more than one needs, almost to the point of excess. Any restaurant described as lavish would contain more of the fancy, expensive décor and extravagant food items than a more mainstream one would.

5. Distinguished

Fit for a celebrated or prominent person.

“Anybody who’s anybody had a reservation at the most distinguished restaurant downtown.”

“The distinguished restaurant was full of business men and security personnel.”

Describing a fancy restaurant as distinguished emphasizes that it has a sophisticated ambiance and clientele. There is likely soft piano music playing, probably by a live pianist, and everyone is whispering to each other in dulcet tones. Use distinguished if you want your fancy restaurant to come across as cultured and visited by only the most important people.

  • Chic, polished , or civilized.
  • Reflecting superiority, high value.

“We knew we were at a classy restaurant when the wine list was as big as the food menu.”

“The grand chandelier of the classy restaurant had so many crystals that it looked like a disco ball when it reflected the sunlight.”

Classy suggests that the restaurant has been professionally designed to the highest standards. Imagine the trendiest art on the walls or chandeliers and candelabras for lighting. Describing a restaurant as classy suggests that just eating at this place raises the character’s station to a higher class, one with money and prestige.

  • Boastful , overly showy.

“I know they like going to the swanky restaurant around the corner, but I find it a bit too much.”

“Oooh, we’re going to the swanky restaurant? Better get out my pearls!”

Swanky suggests that a place is fancy and high-priced but maybe trying too hard to seem that way, so it has more of a negative tone. Use swanky if you want to show the characters find the fancy restaurant as pretentious or over-the-top because of the extravagant features that make it fancy.

8. Glamorous

Extremely alluring .

“This restaurant is so glamorous that even the tassels on the cushions have tassels.”

“I felt like I needed to wear a ballgown to eat in such a glamorous restaurant.”

When most people think of glamorous , they imagine royalty and aristocracy. Describe your restaurant as glamorous if you want to show it’s so fancy that celebrities and people with power make a night of eating there, probably dressed in evening wear and wearing the finest jewels.

Flashy in a brash and showy way.

“What a glitzy restaurant! Even the maître d is dressed in silk!”

“That restaurant was so glitzy , there was even gold in the wallpaper!”

Glitzy is often used to describe expensive jewels or gold because of how they glint in the sun. Use glitzy to emphasize the types of fabrics and shininess of the whole place and show the restaurant is fancy more because of how it looks, rather than the food.

10. Elegant

High quality , tasteful.

“Everything about the restaurant –the way they greeted us, the way the waitstaff treated us, even the way the food was plated—was elegant and precise.”

“I consider a restaurant elegant and fancy when they have a wine pairing for every meal.”

When a reader sees the word elegant , they almost always imagine grace and precision. Thought and kindness has gone into every element to ensure the most pleasurable experience with no worry on the part of the customer. An elegant restaurant would evoke thoughts of soft words, flowy tablecloths, food delivered easily and on time.

Using Sensory Images: Restaurant Reviews

Learning how to spice up your descriptive writing, with help from The Times and a student-written review.

The colorful nighttime exterior of El Molcajete, a Mexican restaurant.

By Katherine Schulten and Jeremy Engle

Our new Mentor Text series spotlights writing from The Times that students can learn from and emulate.

This entry, like several others we are publishing, aims to help support students participating in our Fifth Annual Student Review Contest . Each spotlights both a Times review and a review written by a teenage winner of one of our previous review contests.

For even more on teaching with reviews, please see our related unit plan .

At El Molcajete, the tacos look like bouquets, brimming with cilantro, loosely bundled in paper sleeves twisted tight at one end and gaping at the mouth. They are heavy with meat: hanks of shredded barbacoa, dark and caramelly cecina, cabeza more a stage of melt than flesh.

So begins Ligaya Mishan’s review of a “humble” place in the Bronx that cooks for the neighborhood and seeks no publicity.

But if you read her piece, you may find yourself heading to Westchester Avenue to find it, so vividly does Ms. Mishan describe the suadero and the sauces, the tacos and the tostadas.

Each week, The New York Times reviews a variety of dining experiences , from food carts to the most famous and expensive restaurants in the world. You’ll find not only distinctive and memorable takes on a wide variety of foods and cuisines, but also rich descriptions of the entire dining experience, including service, décor and ambience. No matter what they are reviewing, however, these writers are trying to engage your senses.

Below, we’ve selected several mentor texts — one by a student and several from Times food critics — to show how honing your adjectives, metaphors and similes can make your readers feel as if they are there with you at the table, biting into something interesting.

Before You Read

Think of a memorable dish you’ve had, whether delicious or awful. It could be your breakfast or lunch from today, a recent restaurant order, something your grandmother makes for you every time you visit, or that chocolate cake you had on your 10th birthday.

Now, take five minutes to describe the dish in writing in as much detail as you can — but without naming the dish, or even the cuisine, if you can avoid it. Later a partner will guess what you’re describing.

As you write, try to:

be so specific that listeners who have not had the dish feel they can see, smell, taste and maybe even touch it.

make your description fresh, even if you’re describing something everyone has eaten a thousand times. Don’t lean on clichés; instead, try to pin down exactly how the food engaged your senses.

Next, choose a partner and take turns reading your descriptions aloud. Then, debrief together:

Were you able to guess each other’s foods? How, if so?

What are some of the best sensory words and phrases you both came up with?

Between you, how many different aspects of these meals did you mention? For example, did either of you talk about the ingredients, the appearance, the texture or the price?

Student Mentor Text: “ China Canteen: A Humble Shrine to the Sichuan Kitchen ” by Emily Tian

Next, read a winning student restaurant review from our 2018 contest, chosen here for its vivid descriptive language and inventive use of metaphors.

Here is just one paragraph from it:

The Sichuan fish is electric. Filleted tilapia simmers under a blistery rain of peppers. Its spice-bombed fragrance, lightened by bean sprouts, infuses the room; our neighbors turn to ask us what we ordered.

What would the paragraph lose if, instead, it read like this?

The Sichuan fish is excellent. The tilapia is covered in peppers. Its heavy fragrance makes the whole room smell.

Ms. Tian’s piece shows the kind of vivid writing and word play that made us choose her review as a winner. As you read, notice the profusion of sensory details by underlining all of the sights, sounds, smells, textures and tastes you come across. Here is the piece in its entirety:

China Canteen, off Hungerford Drive in Rockville, Maryland, is known to its Chinese customers as 老四川: Old Sichuan. The restaurant has planted itself on the border of a nondescript strip mall for eighteen years — old indeed for an area where restaurants surface and sink in droves. Between the inked horse paintings and specials handwritten in sloping green Expo, the restaurant wears its age plainly. Chinese parents and kids are seated in cracked maroon booths, deftly breaking apart bamboo chopsticks and pouring steaming cups of tea. Even our broad-shouldered Hispanic server has waited tables here for over a decade. He takes our party’s orders in Mandarin. We first try a traditional dish, 夫妻肺片, which translates literally to husband-wife-lung-slices. It’s not really lung, the menu coaches us, but the marriage of thinly sliced beef tendon and chili oil, constellated with peanuts, is nevertheless a breathless one. The Sichuan fish is electric. Filleted tilapia simmers under a blistery rain of peppers. Its spice-bombed fragrance, lightened by bean sprouts, infuses the room; our neighbors turn to ask us what we ordered. To the chef’s credit, milder dishes don’t erode against the numbing ones. I find myself reaching again for the pi pa tofu: silken tofu beaten with shrimp then gently fried. The size of a toddler’s fist, each ball is soaked in a delicate broth of shiitake mushrooms and bok choy. For $17.99, we share a platter of tea-smoked duck, which arrives wreathed by sprigs of green onion and airy buns painted with sweet bean paste. As with many Chinese joints, however, the bowls of white rice have become something of a chef’s shrug. And skip the scallion pancakes: the cumbersome dough all but smothers the pale ringlets of scallion. Lunch specials will set customers back $7.99, but they sport none of the traditional plates that charge the rest of the menu. The restaurant is run by two brothers and their father, all from the Sichuan Province. Mr. Yu, the younger brother, who greets regulars and recommends dishes to new diners with a Buddha-like warmth, says they have no plans for renovations. Every three years, they’ve renewed their license; if business is decent, they see no reason to change. Of course, it might not be so simple: Along Rockville Pike alone, China Canteen must train its steady firepower against nearly-translucent soup dumplings, A&J’s dense, chewy noodles, and sunny, Instagram-happy newcomers like the pan-Asian food hall, The Spot. But the Yu brothers brush those thoughts aside. For now, they’re most comfortable in the kitchen, braising fish, cubing duck blood, dicing chicken, slicking the wok with red oil and peppercorns. And I, for one, am not looking for anything else.

What details stood out? How does your own description from the Before You Read activity compare to the words and phrases that this student reviewer uses?

Which descriptions did you find to be most inventive or surprising and why? How did they affect you as a reader?

What else do you notice or admire about this review? What lessons might it have for your writing?

Times Mentor Texts

As you saw in the student review above, a good piece will make you feel as if you’re having the experience too, whether it’s in a cracked maroon booth in a nondescript strip mall in Rockville, Md., or while witnessing the “ stunning production ” of eating at French Laundry in California, where servers bring out gold-rimmed dish sets and place them down in unison.

Rather than quote just one review, we’ve chosen some evocative paragraphs from pieces on a range of cuisines and restaurants.

Capturing the atmosphere and ambience of a dining experience:

“ A Taste of Home for California’s Punjabi Truck Drivers ,” by Tejal Rao

The rotis were flawless, king-size rounds. Each one was thin and even, freckled with char and shimmering. The dough had been rolled and cooked to order, so the rotis came out hot and supple, stacked on a paper plate alongside deli containers of dal and a few plastic spoons. It was a modest-looking setup. But if you were tired and bleary-eyed from the road, like so many of the drivers who parked their big rigs in the lot behind Punjabi Dhaba, it was a luxurious break from fast-food chains and gas-station snacks.

“ Nigerian Street Food and the Full Power of Spice at Brooklyn Suya ,” by Ligaya Mishan

There are three levels of heat in the spice rubs at Brooklyn Suya, starting with mild, which is in fact hot. Not too hot, just enough to open the pores and bring a faint sheen to the skin. It’s the next level up that slows you down, insists you take your time and pause every few bites. The highest level says stop. The mouth turns to kindling. A small sun is born. “Are you sure?” the woman behind the counter said doubtfully when I requested the highest. “Me, I stick to the lowest.”

“ California’s Luxury Dining Circuit: Delicious and Dull ,” by Tejal Rao

At times, overwhelmed by the opulence, I felt like a character in a sci-fi movie who had sneaked onto a spaceship for the 1 percent, now orbiting a burning planet.

Describing the food:

“ A Stand-Up Example of Sit-Down Pizza ” by Pete Wells

The crust is so tender it barely fights fork, knife or teeth. Some diners will wish it put up more crackly resistance. You inhale it at least as much as you eat it. When you have finished, some of the most popular pizzas in town will seem tough, leathery, overworked. Even if this is not the style you crave, you’ll know that it’s the work of a baker who has spent years listening to the dough. There is a place for people who are as obsessed with pizza as Mr. Mangieri, and the place is New York City.

“ Sichuan Food, Bracing and Measured, in Brooklyn ,” by Marian Bull

At Birds of a Feather in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a bowl of slippery, feather-light pork won tons in chile oil has a red ring suspended around its edge that, to the spice-averse, may look like a warning. But the heat arrives gently, the oil used sparingly in a special sauce that’s more sweet and tangy than it is fiery. The chef, Ziqiang Lu, sprinkles the dish with a confetti of stir-fried dried chiles ground together with rattan peppercorns, a type of green Sichuan peppercorn so floral that it smells as if it’s in the process of blooming.

“ Where Dessert Is Much More Than an Afterthought ,” by Tejal Rao

At Birdie G’s, this fat, enchanting rose-petal pie was a real beast of a slice, wobbling exuberantly, but it wasn’t nearly as sugary, or as voluptuously floral, as it first appeared. It was architecturally sound, built on a salty, roughly textured crust. And it had a restrained, mellow flavor, carefully tempered with acidity.

Describing an extraordinary experien ce: Sushi Nakazawa

Video player loading

“ The Student Does the Master Proud ,” by Pete Wells, is about one of the very few restaurants The Times has rated “extraordinary.”

Behind the counter of Sushi Nakazawa, the chef is nothing like the movie’s humble stepchild. He laughs, he jokes, he handles live animals. One evening he held out a tray of sea urchins, their spikes groping the air, and asked each of us to choose one. The tiger shrimp he set down on white plates another night had more energy. With a flick of its tail one jumped up in front of a woman at the counter’s end. She jumped even higher. Another customer, more game, picked up the shrimp just above its wriggling legs, pointed toward his mouth in pantomime (Mr. Nakazawa is learning English), and asked the chef, “What is the best way?” The best way is to wait until Mr. Nakazawa yanks off its head, strips its shell and drapes the raw shrimp over a cushion of rice. Everything is gently pressed over rice, in the two-century-old Edo style of sushi that Mr. Nakazawa respects and refines.

Now Try This: Using Mentor Sentences

If a critic simply writes, “The tacos look tasty,” what is she telling us? Tasty how? What about their presentation makes the writer think they would be good? What does “tasty” mean, exactly?

Compare that with the sentence that begins this lesson, from Ligaya Mishan’s review of the restaurant in the Bronx. Can you picture what she’s showing you? Does it make you hungry?

At El Molcajete, the tacos look like bouquets, brimming with cilantro, loosely bundled in paper sleeves twisted tight at one end and gaping at the mouth.

How could you borrow and adapt this structure to describe a dish you are eating? Try it. You might write, “At [name of restaurant], the [dish] looks like [comparison],” then describe how in as much detail as possible.

Then, have a meal and take notes on everything, from the way the host greets you to when the check arrives. What are you seeing, hearing, tasting and experiencing? If you are doing this in a classroom context, you might consider going together to the school cafeteria to write about today’s lunch.

You can use mentor sentences like these, borrowed from the texts above, to construct your own. You might use the same structure, or just include the same elements.

For example …

Here is a mentor sentence from our student reviewer for capturing the atmosphere of the restaurant:

Chinese parents and kids are seated in cracked maroon booths, deftly breaking apart bamboo chopsticks and pouring steaming cups of tea.

To write your own, observe who is in the restaurant and what they’re doing. What details of what is on or around the table reveal something important, the way “cracked maroon booths” do here?

Here is a mentor sentence for describing not-so-delicious food:

And skip the scallion pancakes: the cumbersome dough all but smothers the pale ringlets of scallion.

To adapt this, just steal the opening (“And skip the [whatever dish wasn’t good]”:), then carefully choose your descriptive words the way this writer did (“cumbersome”; “all but smothers”; “pale ringlets”) to make us see — or taste, or smell — why.

Finally, here is a simple but effective mentor-sentence structure for describing a notable chef or other interesting member of the restaurant staff — or even a fellow customer.

He laughs, he jokes, he handles live animals.

What three things does someone in your restaurant setting do that shows who they are, how they add to the experience, or what the place or the food is like in general? For example, you might describe a fellow diner this way: “She smacks, she gnaws, she mops up every bit of food on her plate and still asks for more.”

Or, find your own! Which sentences from the reviews you have read offer you something you’d like to try?

More Mentor Texts for Using Sensory Language

Think only restaurant reviews use vivid sensual description? Take a look at these reviews of technology, dance, sculpture and fashion.

Times Review: In “ The Rebirth of New York Fashion ,” a 2019 fashion review by Vanessa Friedman.

Thus the doors opened at the far end of the room, and a wave of models flowed out — every one in the show — expanding to fill the space with color and movement and joy. They swirled past the audience en masse like a kaleidoscope of butterflies, and then reappeared one by one, each a singular character of Mr. Jacobs’s imagination: a woman in a long, golden bias-cut gown; in a short explosion of petals; in a perfectly cut gray trouser suit, fedora perched jauntily on her head. A woman in newsboy stripes and a feather boa; in gangster plaid; in a knit lunch suit covered in sequins.

Student Review: “ The Functional Art at Your Fingertips ,” a winning technology review from our 2018 Student Review contest by Simon Levien.

Fujitsu went with Topre key switches, lightly tactile rubber domes making each key a cushion. Typing is like pleasing pitter-patter, a sound fondly dubbed the Topre “thick-thock.” I’d say it feels like punching a pillow, soft but quick — perfect to add some oomph to your typing speed and stamina.

Times Review: “ Misty Copeland Leads the Charge at Fall for Dance ,” a 2019 dance review by Gia Kourlas.

Wearing a gold leotard under a gossamer tunic by the talented designers Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung, Ms. Copeland shimmered as if in a cloud. Her arms rose and fell as she retreated to the back of the stage and, for a brief moment, undulated like a swan’s wings. As she glided across the stage, advancing with spins that came to sudden stops or extending a leg to the side in développé, her progression through the steps could be read as an unwavering journey, refined and forthright.

Student Review: “ Rashid Johnson’s ‘Stranger’ and the Desire to Be One ,” a winning art review from our 2017 Student Review contest by Amaya Oswald.

Beginning with three massive, metal-wired structures, the first room of the experience excellently captures Johnson’s personal identity; each cage-like framework embraces bottle-green African plants tangled in the metal, attempting to escape their containments. Jutting out from the wire shelves lie books about the African-American experience in the United States, and propped in the center of the wire cage are timid yellow heads carved with African shea butter with crosshatched mouths and deep, sad eyes. The fusion of these many native African materials and diverse art forms serves to create a vibrancy and richness emphasized by being confined in one room. This arrangement is shocking against the barren English brick walls of the exhibition room and makes the structure feel especially alien.

Student Review: “ 432 Park Avenue — A Splinter in the Sky ,” a winning architecture review from our 2016 review contest by Gabriel Gonzalez.

Towering over established landmarks, it impudently demands attention, claiming its height as a verification of superiority. However, it doesn’t take much digging to reveal that the skyscraper’s design was inspired by nothing other than a trash can. Yep, that’s right. New York City has its very own trash can in its skyline. The can in question was designed by Josef Hoffman, and sports the same blocky, square design of the tower — without all the glass. Instead of using rectangular windows, or a tower cloaked in glass, the architect decided to go with square windows that look out of place on the slim tower, and make it appear as if it were composed of gray Lego bricks. The choice of square windows makes the building appear squat, giving passer-by a confusing image of an anorexic giant that seems uncomfortably compressed.

Describe a Restaurant [IELTS Speaking Part 2]

Posted by David S. Wills | Sep 26, 2018 | IELTS Tips , Speaking | 1

Describe a Restaurant [IELTS Speaking Part 2]

In the IELTS speaking exam, you may be asked about almost any common part of life. There are some predictable topics you often encounter, and most of these are broad human experiences – you know, sports and education and family, etc. In part two, you need to describe something . This could be a person, a place, or an experience.

In the past, I have written articles and recorded sample answers for many part two topics, from animals to books to people . Today, we are going to look at another IELTS speaking part 2 cue card, which asks you to describe a restaurant.

Reading the Cue Card

When you are presented with an IELTS speaking part 2 question, it will come in the form of a cue card – that is a piece of paper with some instructions on it. You need to follow these instructions carefully and then give your answer. In order to give an appropriate answer, you should read the cue card and make sure you fully understand it.

Here is our cue card for this lesson:

Describe your favourite restaurant. Sushi platter. You should say: where it is what it looks like inside and outside what kinds of foods they serve and explain what makes this restaurant so special to you and others.

Think about some basic facts:

  • What do you need to describe? a restaurant
  • Can you describe any restaurant? no, it needs to be your favourite
  • location (where)
  • appearance (what it looks like)
  • menu (what kind of food)
  • Can you say you dislike it? no, this is only about a restaurant you really like
  • Should you say anything else? you can, but don’t go off topic

To review, this cue card asks the candidate to describe their favourite restaurant, giving some basic information about it, and explaining why they like it.

Making Notes and Preparing to Speak

When you receive the cue card, you should take a moment to read it carefully and analyze the instructions, and then begin making notes. At this point, you have just one minute to make notes . You can later use these notes to speak.

It is essential that you don’t try to write too much. Think of some useful vocabulary or an interesting phrase that you might incorporate, but mostly write what you want to say in very brief note form. Candidates who try to write full sentences will do very poorly in the speaking exam. You simply don’t have enough time.

It is important to practice this skill before doing the actual exam. Look at cue cards online and then practice writing down notes. How much can you think and write in just one minute? If you practice making notes then it will be easier in the final exam.

IELTS speaking part 2 notes

My brief notes.

Here are my notes for the cue card:

Japanese food – sushi and sashimi beer and spirits Beatles memorabilia music Downtown mall Good food and service; clean

As you can see, I didn’t write much. There are no full sentences, and no grammar. It is just a bare outline. These notes would help me to speak easily, but wouldn’t take a long time to write.

Remember that no one will ever read your notes. Don’t be self-conscious of how you write, or any mistakes you make. Their only purpose is to help you speak freely during the next section.

After writing your notes, you will have to speak for between one and two minutes. The most important thing is not to speak for less than one minute. That is essential. If you speak for too long, the examiner will stop you. Remember to speak slowly and calmly. If you speak too fast, you will quickly run through your notes and finish in less than a minute!

Here is my sample answer to this part 2 question:

Beatles memorabilia

Beatles memorabilia.

My favourite restaurant is a Japanese restaurant near my house. I don’t know the name because I can’t read Japanese very well, but I often go there and always enjoy it. Of course, they serve Japanese food there, such as sushi and sashimi, but there are many other types of dish. It has an extensive menu. They also have draft and bottled beer, as well as a few spirits. The restaurant is unique because although it is a Japanese restaurant, it has a lot of Beatles memorabilia. They also pay lots of Beatles music there, which I think is strange. People are always confused when they enter because outside it looks like a typical Japanese restaurant, but inside it is a mix of eastern and western design. The restaurant is located not far from my house, in a mall situated in the city’s downtown area. I really like it because it’s got great food and the service is better than most places around here. It’s also quite clean.

Video Answer

Here is my sample answer in video form. You will need to skip ahead if you want to only view the video.

Notes on Language

Notice that I didn’t use any particularly difficult language above, except maybe the word “memorabilia.” This word means “memorable objects” and is often used when describing strange decorations in restaurants that relate to culture.

In terms of specific restaurant vocabulary, I used very little. The verb “serve” is used to refer to a restaurant giving food to its customers. Although I didn’t use it, this can be turned into a noun that refers to waiters and waitresses in a gender-neutral way – “server”.

I used the phrase “extensive menu” to mean that the menu has many items. This would be a common way someone might refer to an impressive menu in a restaurant.

In terms of alcohol, “draft” is the sort of beer that comes out of a tap, and “spirits” refers to stronger sorts of alcohol like whisky, vodka, and tequila.

Description of a restaurant.

608 words | 3 page(s)

The restaurant is situated (place) near the central business district. Additionally, there are three higher educational institutions within a mile. There are new housing developments being constructed within a two mile radius, and public transportation improvements have recently been completed. Our customers are professionals and students, staff and faculty. The menu is comprised of American style cuisine with a Mediterranean flair with an extensive Vegan offering. All entrees are $18 and under, with most between $10 and $12. There have been many write-ups in local papers, and a feature a local news channel that has been successful in promoting the restaurant.

We have seen a decrease in business lately, as there are more restaurants opening up. We must do some canvassing of menus within the central business district to introduce the restaurant to those not familiar. The success of Groupon is undeniable, and we will begin to offer two-for-one Groupons for additional promotion. A tapas option, or smaller portions of our specials, at lower prices can mix up the menu and bring people in to try something more than one dish at a time. An expansion of the catering options marketed to local schools for parties and different event will also increase business.

Use your promo and get a custom paper on "Description Of A Restaurant".

In order to serve customers, it is necessary to know what they want. Polling customers will help with that understanding. As the economy recovers, people are spending less on luxury items such as dining out. Offering lower price options of a popular product will keep people dining, and help them save a little. As in any establishment, price, product, promotion, and place are equally important. If the product is not good, it does not matter the price. If the price is not reasonable, people will hesitate to pay for it, despite how good it is. If no one knows about the establishment then there will be not business, and if it is not convenient to get there, no one is coming.

Someone recommended a product line of fresh, handmade products for face, hair, and body made with all natural ingredients. I had never heard of Lush, but went to the store and picked up three of their items. I took a catalog and then talked to friends, of who had heard of the line, but forgot to mention it to me. I loved the product since all the ingredients are all natural; they are not tested on animals; and handmade. While they have a web presence and online ordering is available, there are some products that are so fresh that they can only be purchased at a store. For all natural products the prices were comparable to over the counter products, maybe slightly more expensive, but well worth the cost due to the nature of the product. There are six locations throughout the area, making it convenient to pick up the product. The product is so well received that much promotion comes from existing customers recommending them; which is how I came to know about the company.

My friends and I look for products that are well-priced, but also good for us and the environment. Due to economic constraints, we look for bargains and ways to get the most for our dollar, we do not compromise on quality on everything. In fact, we look for products and offer quality, which is normally a sign that they will last longer, and the higher initial purchase cost will actually save money later as we will not need to replace them as often. Recommendations from others, and good reviews also help our decision-buying process, as well as how the company manufacturers their products; i.e., how eco-conscious and responsible they are.

My favorite restaurant essay

Places we prefer vary depending on our taste, culture, mood, previous experience and our first impression of the place.

Today, I will talk about my favorite restaurant that I visited one day and left an impression of calm and quietness as well as the quality of the food and it’s tasty taste.

Italian cuisine is one of the most famous kitchens around the world and is one of the most luxurious and characteristic cuisines in the world. It is the origin of pasta and pizza that is unparalleled anywhere else.

The Italian restaurant is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding and magnificent food establishments in my city. Characterized by the quiet atmosphere, its light-colored interior and its elegant, glamorous decor, it was once a cafe before turning into a restaurant with many qualities of the former.

The restaurant offers delicious dining options, with Italian authentic flavor. Waiters in the restaurant are friendly and respectful.

This place is no less than a typical example of how to build a restaurant.

The restaurant serves many famous Italian meals.

The chicken soup with cream is a great start to any meal, and I have not found a restaurant serving it as here. I prefer the Chicken Caesar Salad after it.

My favorite dishes are the fettuccine Alfredo pasta with chicken, grilled chicken with cream and mushroom sauce. I love pizza of all kinds. They are all delicious and different options. Parmesan cheese is a good choice to accompany any Italian dish.

Canoloni Agnolotti with garlic and rosemary is one of the best Italian dishes. Agnolotti is a stuffed pasta and is very similar to ravioli, served with some rosemary and garlic. This dish is one of the distinctive foods in Italian cuisine.

Rap Arancini broccoli with marinara sauce is one of the best Italian dishes. It is rice balls with well fried broccoli and characterized by its golden color and served with marinara sauce.

The restaurant also offers different types of juices with meals. Such as lemon juice with mint mixed with crushed ice is an effective recipe for extinguishing the heat of the atmosphere.

The restaurant at the weekend is busy … my advice is to arrive early or book or call for booking to ensure a place.

The restaurant is rated 4 stars and its prices are high.

my favorite restaurant

My favorite restaurant for sure is one that specializes in chicken meals. The name of my favorite restaurant is “…?…”. It contains in the menu many recipes of chicken. I would prefer to order the Portuguese style chicken. So it contains a lot of hot spices. I prefer to choose the shape of the chicken and how to present it, whether it is with bones or boneless. Like a chicken burger or grilled chicken. Or other delicious recipes that I find very nice. I love to serve salads and appetizers first. Then serve the main meal in addition to some of the side dishes that I can add to the meal. All this is very nice to me.

my favourite restaurant essay

My favorite restaurant is an Italian restaurant called “…?…”. The best meal it serves is delicious and wonderful pizza. I like the way they prepare this pizza more than many other restaurants. I find it a nice way they cut the ingredients, I always find it thin and it is always fresh and of excellent quality.

The degree of cooking is great, always moderate and not too much. So I love it so much and I love eating it in this place so much. I can’t get rid of the wonderful smell that I can smell while it’s still on its way to me.

I certainly have that childish expression on my face because I long to take a piece of it and leave it a little in my mouth. I can never hide this expression no matter who I take with me to my favorite restaurant.

Of course, what makes me more determined for this restaurant is the experiences of others around me, friends and family, all of whom praise the wonderful taste of this restaurant.

I feel like I’m going there very soon, because this talk made me want to eat some pizza. I might go today, I don’t know if I could, but if I did, it would be very nice.

I also hope that everyone will be fortunate to find a favorite restaurant that he would like to return to with great anticipation.

restaurant essay

My favorite restaurant is very simple, I can not say that it is one of those large and famous restaurants that contain several stars, led by a skilled team of highly-acclaimed chefs.

My favorite restaurant is one of those small restaurants that the owner and one of his sons strive to manage and satisfy customers. Those restaurants you can find on the corner of the street.

They don’t have much food on the main menu but they do have a feeling of love and affection. I always order different food to try the items they have and they all feel the same as the food my mum made for me.

I like very much to order and eat meals that are served in famous restaurants, such as burgers, KFC pieces. Certainly not the same quality. But it makes me very happy. It’s great to see what it looks like in other places and get the closest taste to it. With a simple soft drink.

That’s all I can say in an essay about a restaurant in which I can express my experience. I wish in the future to finish my studies and be able to travel to broaden my horizons of thought. Visit famous restaurants and eat different meals. Until then, this simple restaurant will remain my favorite.

paragraph about restaurant

I like that the restaurant in which I eat my food contains Mexican or Indian recipes that contain sharp spices, especially chicken. I like to have the ability to choose in the size provided, such as a quarter to a whole chicken. Where I ask only for what is sufficient for me and there is nothing left. I also prefer that it be served with the meal, French fries and a large glass of soft water, such as Coca-Cola. I find such restaurants serving these meals very wonderful to me.

my favorite restaurant essay

It’s great that I can talk about my favorite restaurant. I like very much restaurants that have modern  menu on the food, the drinks and the dessert .

I am very attracted by those that are served as pumpkin sauce with cream. Or offer arugula juice. Things like this make me happy.

Eating in the restaurant is one of the good things. Since childhood, we did not encourage eating in restaurants a lot due to the loss of beneficial nutrients. The orders are always saturated with oils and fats.

But because of the change and the experience of some new varieties, I became a lot more encouraged to eat in restaurants. One of my most favorite restaurants is the tomato Indian restaurant. They can always surprise me and offer one of those new meals or offer a modern sauce that I like.

my favorite restaurant short essay

My favorite restaurant is near my house. The name of the restaurant is “………” This is definitely my favorite restaurant because the price is very cheap. I can for as little as “Put the price of the meal here ‘ I can eat a whole bowl of pasta.

But what is really special about this restaurant is that I can get an additional amount of the same size and the same price if I want more . So, I like the idea of little money and a lot of food. I love going to this restaurant very much.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 2

My favorite restaurant is dedicated to fresh seafood. I love eating recipes from this restaurant, such as the shrimp dish mixed with cream and garlic. I am amazed at the consistency of this dish.

I really like the innovative way they present this dish, so I highly recommend it to all my friends and family. It is always a pleasure to return for this dish at High Seas Restaurant.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 3

On occasions, I always go with my family to eat at my favorite restaurant, me and my siblings. The name of this restaurant is Crazy about you.

Your imagination will surely go with this wonderful name. And it is worth it in fact, it is dedicated to food and dancing as well, as it contains an area dedicated to dancing in different forms. There are always new people and different requests for dances that express their reference.

Eating is more fun while watching, and my brothers and I often participate in dancing. It makes us have a lot of fun and have a great time.

I like it very much when my dad and mom share a quiet dance. It makes us feel so happy when we see them smiling and nothing distracts them for a few minutes.

This place is my favorite and one day when I make a family I would like to go back and spend such a wonderful family time.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 6

My favorite restaurant is sweet and savory restaurant. This restaurant is famous for serving very delicious meals such as burgers, chicken and Italian pasta. It also features wonderful dessert meals, whether hot or cold.

This place is my favorite because I always love variety and innovation and I don’t like to eat the same meal whenever I go there. I would rather try all their varieties. Especially sweet dishes that always make me feel happy and re-energize me after eating a heavy meal.

In fact, I love to eat a lot and have a great appetite. I like to eat until I feel full. So this is my favorite restaurant because it serves a large plate of food. Not like those famous restaurants that serve small samples in the middle of the plate.

I would very much love to come back and eat there from time to time and try some spicy food like Indian food. Although they are not specialized in it, but they offer some wonderful simple meals that contain different spices. I also like the way the meat is grilled and the spices used. It has a sharp and clear taste.

Definitely very soon I will be going again to this restaurant and I am glad that I have a favorite restaurant that can make me happy.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 7

My favorite restaurant is very simple and it’s just a car parked by the road near my house with a man working on it always smiling. He makes snacks called hot dog sandwiches. Its price is very low, it tastes great, it is nice to talk with friends and eat in the middle of the road where the air and friends are.

I often have it on my way back from school. And before going to exercise, I find it wonderful to eat this meal. It makes me feel energized.  My friends in training often ask to bring them some. Everyone loves a hot dog, it is suitable for all times. Quick to prepare, easy to eat and completely satiating.

Of course, this is not a famous restaurant or one of the famous dishes, but always the most important thing is psychological comfort and happiness. This place always makes me happy. All I need is a hot dog sandwich and a glass of soda water.

my first visit to a restaurant essay 250 words

My first visit to a restaurant was years ago and it was the famous McDonald’s. My family used to take me there to have a happy meal and to provide a space for the children to play.

Always in these restaurants in every country you will find a dedicated area for children in which they can play and practice a lot of activities.

I remember my first day getting a good meal and a gift too. The gift was a small car. I was very happy with it, I didn’t want to play with it at the time, but kept it until I got home and then played with it.

I remember very well that I was able to keep it intact and working for several years later. One of the wonderful things that delight children are such gifts.

I remember the games in the place and there was this room full of little balls that we jump on, and we swim in trying to get out, and dive inside and throw them all over the place.

I also remember participating with other children in the race for those who climb to the skating game, and shouting loudly while skating.

Definitely this place is my favorite and I like to go back and eat there, and it would be great if I got one of the gifts they offer.

It is great that my family took me to this place where I was able to create very wonderful memories. And build a good family bond with them. Such outings make you always want to accompany them, eat with them, and visit different places.

Of course, I now have several different experiences from visiting restaurants, but my first restaurant remains the best, and returning to it makes me feel happiness that I often need it.

I love the idea of a place that makes me happy and I want to go back to it and bring back some good memories. Thank you McDonald’s for being a partner in this happiness memories.
