Speech 1 on Dussehra in English

Good Morning to each one of you present here, today on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra I stand in front of you to give a speech on Dussehra.

Dussehra is a Hindu Festival celebrated in the month of Ashvin i.e. in the seventh month of the Hindu calendar on the Shukla Paksha tithi. This year we are celebrating Dussehra on 24 October. Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day after Navratri so it is also referred to as Vijayadashami .

On this auspicious day, Lord Rama killed the evil demon Ravan. To commemorate the victory of Lord Rama people burn the effigies of Ravan at public gatherings as a symbol of victory of good over evil.

Dussehra is also celebrated to honor Goddess Durga for her victory over Mahishasur.  Navaratri is a nine-night festival dedicated to the worship of the Hindu goddess Durga. These nine nights represent the battle of the divine feminine against the demon king, Mahishasura, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. As per Hindu mythology , Goddess Durga fought against Mahishasur and expelled him away from the planet.

Indians celebrate Dussehra with great pomp and enthusiasm. Dussehra mela is organized in various states, effigies of Ravan are burned at public gatherings, and Ramlila is conducted to spread the message of Dussehra.

Here, I conclude my speech by saying that, good will always prevail and evil will always be defeated. So, eliminate all the evil thoughts and habits and take an oath to adopt good habits on this Dussehra.

Speech 2 on Dussehra in English

Today, I stand before you to speak about the festival of Dussehra, a celebration of immense significance in the Indian culture. Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, marks the triumph of good over evil, symbolizing the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana.

This festival serves as a reminder that no matter how powerful evil may seem, ultimately, it is the forces of goodness, truth, and righteousness that prevail. Dussehra teaches us valuable lessons about courage, faith, and the importance of standing up against injustice.

The central act of Dussehra involves the effigy of Ravana, filled with fireworks, being set ablaze. This fiery spectacle is not just a display of grandeur but a symbolic act of purging the negativity and evil from our lives. It encourages us to eliminate the darkness within ourselves and to cultivate virtues that lead us towards a better, more harmonious life.

Beyond its religious and mythological significance, Dussehra is also a time for family and community gatherings, cultural performances, and sharing delicious food. It brings people from all walks of life together to celebrate the victory of good, fostering unity and harmony.

As we celebrate Dussehra, let us not only revel in the festivities but also take a moment to reflect on the timeless message it imparts. Let us strive to be like Lord Rama, upholding truth and righteousness, and defeating the Ravana within us, which may manifest as greed, anger, or ignorance.

In conclusion, Dussehra is more than just a festival; it is a guiding light, reminding us that the power of good can overcome any adversity. May this festival inspire us to lead lives filled with positivity, empathy, and a commitment to the path of righteousness. Happy Dussehra to all!

Speech 3 on Dussehra in English

Good morning everyone. Today, we celebrate Dussehra, a festival that marks the victory of good over evil. It is a time to reflect on the timeless message of this festival and to strive to be like Lord Rama, upholding truth and righteousness in our own lives.

Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Navaratri, a nine-day festival dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga. During Navaratri, Hindus worship Goddess Durga in her many forms, including Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri.

On Dussehra, we celebrate the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king, Ravana. Ravana had abducted Lord Rama’s wife, Sita, and taken her to his kingdom in Lanka. Lord Rama, along with his brother Lakshmana and his monkey friend Hanuman, fought a fierce battle against Ravana and eventually emerged victorious.

The burning of Ravana’s effigy on Dussehra symbolizes the destruction of evil and the triumph of good. It is also a reminder that we must always strive to overcome our own negative qualities, such as anger, greed, and jealousy.

Dussehra is a time for celebration and merriment. People across India come together to celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. In many parts of the country, Ramlila is performed, which is a reenactment of the story of Ramayana. Dussehra is also a time to exchange gifts and sweets with loved ones.

On this auspicious day, let us all take a vow to uphold the values of truth, righteousness, and compassion. Let us also strive to be like Lord Rama and defeat the Ravana within us.

Happy Dussehra to all!
