Gift cards make an excellent gift idea for a number of reasons. Their flexibility is perhaps the biggest draw. They cater to everything from favorite retailers to experience gifts like food tours and cooking classes. They also allow the recipient to be more active in picking out exactly what they would like to spend their funds on, and there's nothing better than getting precisely what you want!

From highly personalized selections to more general gifts such as those for office gift exchanges, gift cards offer a great and easy way to appeal to everyone. They’re also perfect gifts for someone who has everything .

1. With a Small Coordinating Object

A great gift card presentation idea is to pair the card with a small, inexpensive, but related gift item. This can be a foodie gift card attached to a new piece of kitchenware for the budding gourmet, or a coffee shop gift card attractively presented inside a mug or travel cup. While the card allows the recipient to spend the funds on their items and experiences of choice, the related item will forever be a tangible reminder of the gift.

Cute gift card presentation ideas can include a small related object.

2. Make a Candy Jar

A fun way to give a gift card is to create a candy jar of the recipient's favorite treats. Create an attractive container using a Mason jar filled with sweet treats or snacks. Attach the gift card to the outside or top of the jar, or place it inside against the glass or hidden under treats to make them forage for their gift.

This gift card presentation idea is perfect for people with a sweet tooth or for children. It also works great for any kind of snack and with any size container. Candy jars also make great last-minute gift ideas .

3. Create a Handmade Envelope

Handmade envelopes and paper pouches are another wonderful gift card presentation idea. Create an attractive envelope or slip using new or recycled paper. Retailers like JOANN and Michaels carry a great assortment of fine handmade papers. There are a number of tutorials on how to fold your paper and fasten the corners, including ideas on how to decorate it with collage or embellishments to make it extra special.

4. Give It With a Bottle

Another great gift card presentation idea is to pair it with the recipient’s favorite beverage. Affix the gift card to anything from a wine bottle, a favorite hard liquor or even a bag of their favorite coffee. Sodas, seltzers and other beverages are also perfect options. This is great for grab bags, white elephant gift exchanges at gatherings around the holidays and last-minute Christmas gifts .

For a great gift card presentation idea, attach it to a bottle of something they love.

5. Create a Puzzle Box

A fun way to give a gift card is to create a handmade puzzle box they must solve to obtain the card. These can be as simple or advanced as you like. Boxes can be constructed out of existing boxes, cardboard or cardstock paper. A puzzle box, whatever the difficulty level, is an engaging way to present a gift card for children or curious, puzzle-loving adults.

6. Pop-Up Card or Booklet

If you're looking for an elaborate and creative way to give a gift card, consider crafting a fun pop-up envelope or booklet to display your gift card front and center. Tutorials online show how to create unique gift card presentations like this, including engaging designs that are as surprising and fun to give as they are to receive. They also evoke an element of surprise and whimsy that will be long remembered by the receiver.

7. Make a Fabric or Knitted Sleeve

An excellent gift card presentation idea, particularly in the winter months, is creating fabric or knitted pockets or sleeves for gift cards. This adds a cozy personal touch that allows you to tailor your gift sleeve’s print and color to the theme of the intended celebration — red and green for Christmas, for example.

Fabric pouches are simple to sew by hand or machine. While knitting or crocheting a pocket or sleeve for your card may require more advanced skills, they’re an excellent short afternoon project for even beginner knitters. If you aren't up to making the pouch yourself, you can always purchase or recycle one and add elements like buttons and trim, or hand stamp a design or message onto the pouch.

8. Make a Memory Book

A thoughtful gift card presentation idea is creating an accordion or handbound book album featuring mementos and photos personal to you and the gift recipient. Fold a long sheet of paper or cardstock into fourths or eighths, creating a system of pockets; one to include your gift card, others to include pieces of ephemera and printed images. These personal touches make the small book a great memory long after the card is gone.

This is a perfect idea for a gift card presentation for both family and friends you’ve known for a long time, and a great way to share experience gift cards .

9. Create a Gift Card Wallet

Another perfect presentation idea for gift cards is to create a wallet from paper or fabric to enclose the gift card. Make it a simple bifold design or add elements like buttons, latches or adhesive to close it. This idea also works perfectly when presenting several gift cards for group gifts. An alternative is to recycle an older wallet and decorate it with a design or image special to you and the recipient.

10. Fold It in Origami

A completely one-of-a-kind gift card presentation idea is to enclose your card in an origami sculpture. Animals, butterflies or other unique folded objects make memorable receptacles for gift cards. While folding the paper and engineering the shape may take a little practice, it’s more than worthwhile. This gift card presentation idea is especially great for children.

11. Attach an Ornament

For the holidays, ornaments make great accompaniments to gift cards. If you’re feeling especially crafty, make a simple fabric or paper ornament to hang on a tree. You could also purchase a special or handmade ornament, which will forever serve as a reminder and point of connection long after the gift card has been spent.

Attaching it to an ornament is a fun gift card presentation idea.

12. Deck of Gift Cards

For holidays or other gatherings, a fun gift card presentation idea is to create a deck of cards with several gift cards secreted inside. Each participant draws a card from the deck as it makes its way around the room. Some are just regular cards, but the lucky will draw the actual gift cards as prizes. This works perfectly for office parties or large family gatherings and is a fun ice breaker activity for people you would like to get to know.

13. Put It in a Snow Globe

Another fun holiday gift card presentation idea is to create a simple snow globe. Place the gift card inside a mason jar and then use small seasonal items and fake snow or glitter to decorate the interior and outside of the jar. Think animal figures, miniature ornaments and small trees. The jar can remain a favorite décor item long after the occasion.

Creating snow globes can also be a fun group or kids’ activity. Children love to create them, so this is an excellent option for having them make holiday gifts for teachers .

14. Include a Toy

A cute gift card presentation idea for kids is to attach the gift card to a small toy or inexpensive stuffed animal. This is particularly cute if you arrange the card so that it looks like the animal or doll is “presenting” the gift card. Stock up on small stuffed toys and dolls at dollar stores and thrift shops to keep them on hand for gift card giving occasions.

15. Gift Card Bouquet

An excellent gift card presentation idea, particularly for group gifts, is a gift card bouquet. These can be created using pipe cleaners and tissue paper to fashion flowers with gift cards at their centers. This unique gift card presentation idea works perfectly for new mom and baby shower gifts, with cards assembled from a number of different places and retailers. It’s also an excellent gift card presentation idea for new homeowners or housewarming parties.

16. Attach It to Art or Classroom Supplies

A fun gift card presentation idea for end-of-year teacher gifts is to create a bouquet of markers or pencils. The card is a personal gift, but you are also providing some badly needed classroom supplies for the next year. Switch out the classroom supplies for paint brushes or professional grade markers or drawing pens, and this becomes a great gift idea for budding artists.

Giving it with class supplies is a good gift card presentation idea for teachers.

17. Bath and Body Items

A great idea when presenting a personal care gift card is to pair it with a favorite small cosmetic or bath and body item like perfume, bath gel or lotion. This works perfectly for giving a spa day card or a card for the recipient's favorite bath and body or cosmetics store. Retailers often offer small sample sizes of their most popular products that make a perfect accompaniment to a gift card.

18.  Create a Custom Gift Pouch or Bag

A cute and recycle-friendly gift card presentation idea is to create a small bag or pouch from recycled paper. Great ideas include leftover gift wrap or the comics section of the newspaper. Magazine pages also create visually interesting packaging. You can always add other small items to the bag with the card, like stickers, toys or sample-sized offerings related to the gift card.

19. Make a Gift Card Wreath

Another fun gift card presentation idea for group settings is a gift card wreath. Place decorative envelopes on a wreath, attach them with clips and then draw names, with each participant choosing one of the cards. Vary the amounts of the cards and make a game of it, allowing players to swap, barter and scheme for their desired cards.

Dotting them around a wreath is a fun gift card presentation idea.

DIY Gift Card Snow Globe

Snow globes are a traditional holiday gift, but this DIY spin on the classic globe can be a unique way to present a gift card. All you need is a mason jar, hot glue gun, water, glitter, and any other decorations you'd like to place in the globe. Just know this method will only work for plastic gift cards because they will be fully submerged in the water. Don't have time or patience to craft one yourself? You can buy a ready-made snow globe designed to hold a gift card.

Hide a Gift Card in a Jar of Candy

Imagine opening a jar filled with your favorite candy when you discover a second gift tucked in the center of the jar: Surprise - it's a gift card! Extend this joy to a loved one by placing a rolled piece of cardstock into a mason jar. Put the gift card into the cardstock, then fill the surrounding portion of the jar with their favorite candy. Skittles, M&M's, jellybeans, and Reese's Pieces work well for this, though you can also use almonds, dried berries, or granola for a healthier twist. Make sure to place a gift tag on the jar so everyone knows exactly who it's meant for.

Place a Card Inside a Mug or Tumbler

Everyone enjoys a hot beverage in the winter, so you can't go wrong by presenting a gift card in a mug. Find one with an image or message that reminds you of your friend or person you're giving the gift to; you can find some pretty cute mugs at Target, World Market, TJ Maxx, or Amazon. Fill the mug with tissue paper or crinkled paper shreds, then push the gift card halfway in so it's peeking out the top. If you know the recipient likes a certain type of tea, coffee, or chocolate, you can tuck a few into the mug as well. A tumbler with a lid and straw instead of a mug could also make a great choice.

Make an Easy Origami Envelope Gift Card Holder

A gift card presented in an envelope doesn't have to be boring, particularly if the envelope is handmade. A DIY origami envelope is a thoughtful and elegant way to gift a card, plus it won't take you more than a few minutes. You'll just need some decorative paper (wrapping paper works great!) cut into a 9-inch by 9-inch square. It can double as a business card holder after they spend the gift card!

Create a Crocheted Gift Card Holder

Are you feeling extra crafty? Consider crocheting a Santa-themed gift card holder . You will need prior crocheting experience or the willingness to learn a few basic stitches. However, the result will be an impressive gift card holder that can double as a coin purse or keepsake pouch.

Slip It in a Luggage Tag

Are you getting a gift card for the adventurer in your life? Or maybe it's a wedding gift for a couple who will be taking off on their honeymoon? Placing the gift card in a cute luggage tag can be a fun and unique idea. You can find luggage tags featuring clever sayings at most travel stores or even Target. If you have time leading up to the big day, it could be meaningful to have a personalized luggage tag made for your special explorer.

Try a Maze Gift Card Puzzle

Make the recipient work for their present by placing the gift card inside a maze. You can purchase maze boxes designed exactly for this purpose. Just open the maze, place the gift card inside, then place it under the tree. The receiver will have to unlock the puzzle before they can access the card.

Plan a Scavenger Hunt

If you want to give your gift card recipient a fun experience, you could try planning a scavenger hunt for them. This is especially fun when giving gift cards to a group of children or teens . Give them an envelope containing the first clue . Each clue can lead them to a different location in the home (or your neighborhood!), with the final clue leading them to the gift cards.

Make a Paper Backpack to Hold a Child's Gift Card

If you're giving a gift card to a kid in your life, you'll want to make it fun. Find a toy they'll enjoy, like a small plush bear, dinosaur figurine, or doll. Grab an envelope, two thin strips of tape, and glue or tape, and use it to craft a paper backpack for the doll to wear. Slip the gift card inside the envelope and place it under the tree. If you want to make the pack even more realistic, you can fashion an origami backpack . Your little one will fall in love with both the backpack-toting toy and the gift card it holds.

Zip It Into a Small Pouch

Pair the gift card with a small zippered pouch. You can find pouches with cute images or sayings on them, though you can also get one personalized with a photo or your loved one's name. The pouch makes it a fun gift to open, and they can use it as a coin purse or wallet. For a student, you could gift the gift card in a slender zippered pencil case instead.

Gift Multiple Cards as a Wreath

Are you giving an individual or family multiple gift cards? A creative way to present them is in the form of a wreath. Begin with a plain holiday wreath; it can be an artificial fir, grapevine, or whatever you prefer. Arrange the cards around the wreath, then use decorative clips to attach them. This gift card presentation is not only attractive, but it doubles as a decoration the recipient can use for many holidays to come.

Original Gift Card Presentation Ideas for Everyone

Whether this gift is for a loved one on Christmas morning or an office gift exchange , these fun ways to give gift cards will take your present to the next level. Choose the presentation method that works best for the person receiving the card and the time you have available . It's truly the thought that counts.

Just because you’re giving a gift card doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t present it with care. After all, the right presentation will help the giftee feel appreciated. The following tips will help ensure you’re following proper gifting etiquette.

Gift Card Holder on wooden background.

  • Pick out the right gift card for the giftee. Do they have a daily coffee habit? Then maybe they’d appreciate a gift card to their local coffee shop. Or maybe they’re in need of some new work clothes after starting a new job. If so, a gift certificate for a professional clothing store might be best.
  • Deposit an appropriate balance for the occasion. For example, the gift amount for a baby shower would be higher than that for a birthday.
  • Find a thematic gift card holder, or DIY one. The care you put into wrapping the gift card or in finding the perfect gift card holder shows through in the end.
  • Include a card with the gift card. It’s important to always include a special card in any gift. This shows the giftee exactly how much you appreciate them.

These wrapping ideas help take your gift to the next level. From traditional gift wrapping to origami paper, we’ve made a list of the best gift card wrapping ideas for you below.

38 Best Gift Card Ideas for Everyone on Your List

Seriously, a gift card could be the most thoughtful gift of all. (Just choose the right one.)

creative ideas for gift card presentation

"Gift card ideas? Not for me," you might say when you're stumped picking out gifts for teens or struggling to figure out what to give someone you don't know well. But gift cards, especially when they're thoughtfully chosen, make really great gifts. They're super useful, they give the recipient some decision-making power, and they take some of the pressure off you—what's not to love?

In many cases, picking a thoughtful gift card that offers the recipient a new opportunity—to travel, to try new foods, to learn something new—is actually even more touching than another generic sweater or lotion gift set. Gift your Marvel-loving friend a Disney+ gift card, or your foodie sister a certificate to Goldbelly so she can enjoy the best food from around the country.

Once you've settled on the perfect gift card idea, use our gift card wrapping ideas to make the gift even more special.

Minted Gift Card

If you know someone who bought a new house—or just has some wall space they need to cover—Minted's collection of customizable and unique artwork by top designers around the world may be just what they wanted. But even if they're set for artwork, they can use the gift card for creating photo calendars, puzzles, or even buying objets d'art for styling their coffee tables or bookshelves, rather than walls.

Gift card presentation idea: This is an e-gift card, but why not pair it with a favorite photo you think could inspire their artwork?

Food52 Gift Card

For the foodie or entertainer on your gift list, this chic store has lots of fun things to choose from, from handmade tableware to gourmet goodies to enjoy.

Gift card presentation idea: You can print this card out and wrap it in a pretty kitchen towel (perhaps from Food52) or pair it with a favorite holiday treat you've whipped up.

MoMA Design Store Gift Card

Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art's gift shop features more than just items based on masterpieces from their collection. Your design-forward friend will love picking something from their sleek collections of jewelry, home goods, and cool tech—or perhaps, just a cool Starry Night umbrella.

Gift card presentation idea: This e-gift card can be accompanied by one of the cute ornaments inspired by MoMA artwork. (We're partial to the melting clock by Salvador Dali.)

Anthropologie Gift Card

Anthropologie.com

If you can't decide whether your recipient would like to refresh their wardrobe or their home more, let them pick from Anthropologie's gorgeous selection of clothes, accessories, and home goods.

Gift card presentation idea: You can opt for an e-gift card or a traditional one—which could be wrapped in one of their scarves or bandanas or shared with a cozy mug .

Uncommon Goods Gift Certificate

Uncommon Goods

This site curates fun and funky gifts from small businesses all over. No matter what they're into, they'll likely find something that's just their cup of tea—including unique virtual classes for cooking and crafts.

Gift card presentation idea: Uncommon Goods offers physical as well as e-gift cards. Include a message about how special (i.e. uncommon) they are. They'll likely love that message just as much as the gift itself.

Stockpile Gift Card

The perfect gift for the person who has literally everything ? An opportunity to buy into something big. Your gift card can be for a specific stock or crypto—or you can let them choose. All of that means that your gift could be worth a whole lot more in the future.

Gift card presentation idea: Share the gift card alongside a good financial book to help them on their road to financial success.

Bookshop.org Gift Card

Bookshop.org

Gift card presentation idea: Pair it with a pretty bookmark (or one of our favorite gifts for readers ) if you want something tangible to include with it.

Giving Good St. Jude Card

GiftCards.com

Consider this card the best of both worlds. Your gift recipient gets to spend the full card value at a store or restaurant of their choice (think Best Buy, Domino's, Regal Cinemas, and Chili's), while three percent of your total card purchase price goes to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Gift card presentation idea: This is an e-gift card, so send a sweet message with it (along with a suggestion of how to use it).

Stubhub Gift Card

Just ask Swifties and the Beyhive—concert tickets have become a major investment. Help them splurge the next time their favorite act comes to town with a gift card they can use on StubHub for a favorite show, sporting event, or concert.

Gift card presentation idea: Pair this with merch from their favorite performer or team.

Steam Gift Card

For the online gamer, a Steam gift card can help them get a game (or three) to play on their computer—or splurge on a Steam deck, which brings their favorite games on the road with them.

Gift card presentation idea: No surprise that this is an e-gift card—but maybe use this opportunity to challenge them to a game night in the near future.

Fender Play Gift Card

Whether they're a beginner guitarist or want to hone their music chops, Fender Play offers video lessons on demand to help them level up their skills (and master their favorite guitar solo) in no time fast.

Gift card presentation idea: This gift card goes perfectly with a set of picks or a strap to bling out their guitar.

Universal Standard Gift Card

Universal Standard

Pretty much every woman can find something to love in Universal Standard's super size-inclusive selection of elevated basics. Think everything from cozy loungewear to sleek workwear.

Gift card presentation idea: They don't sell accessories (yet), so maybe pair the gift card with something they can wear with their new clothes, like a pair of earrings.

Goldbelly Gift Card

Gift them the gift of some of the country's best food, delivered right to their door. They can opt for sweet treats (including ice cream!), local specialties (like wings from Buffalo or muffaletta from New Orleans), or even subscriptions that offer the best of a category, such as a monthly sandwich, pizza, or cookie delivery.

Gift card presentation idea: Goldbelly cards can be delivered digitally or as a hard copy—and you can even splurge a bit more and pick a special gift card presentation that comes with some fun food gifts, stickers, and other swag.

Urban Outfitters Gift Card

For your hard-to-buy-for teen, tween, or young adult, an Urban Outfitters gift card may give them exactly what they need to pick out the gifts they really want, whether it's something to refresh their room or their wardrobe.

Gift card presentation idea: If you're doing the e-gift card, try fitting a fun message into the 200-character space. Or pair a tangible version with a small gift they might like—their favorite candy, a cool beauty or skincare product, or a fun Christmas ornament.

Spafinder Gift Card

For the person who's long overdue for a massage or another wellness treatment, this gift card is just the ticket for them to book their favorite treatments at one of hundreds of spas across the country.

Gift card presentation idea: Pair this with a fun wellness accessory—some sheet masks, their favorite moisturizer, or a pretty spa robe.

Mancrates Chip Off the Old Block Gift Card

Choose your recipient's favorite gift card from a list of popular options (including Home Depot, Amazon, and DoorDash), and it'll come encased in concrete—with a hammer and safety goggles so they can "unwrap" the item.

Gift card presentation idea: It's already built into the gift!

Disney+ Gift Card

If they don't already have a Disney+ account (or you just want to help them keep the magic going for longer), give them the gift of great entertainment with a Disney+ Subscription Card. This gift offers a year-long subscription to unlimited streaming from the service, so they can get their fill of Marvel Universe shows and movies, Pixar films, Disney classics, and even some educational National Geographic content.

Gift card presentation idea: This gift card is only available digitally, so think of a truly witty (and Disney-, Star Wars-, or Marvel–related) quote or saying to include with the delivery email. If you want an extra gift to go with it, consider offering movie-type snacks like popcorn or candy, or a Disney-themed snack bowl to go with it.

MasterClass Gift Card

Give the gift of learning with a membership to MasterClass. You can choose from several different tiers—including a family pass for $20/month.

Gift card presentation idea: This is an e-gift card, so you'll need to use your words instead of ribbons and bows. Take some time to research classes the recipient will like and list them in the message to get them excited about using their gift ASAP. If you want to offer a physical gift, too, consider gifting them a tool or supplies they might need for a class—such as an apron and piping bags and tips if you think they'd take a cake decorating class.

Bloomscape Gift Card

Whether they've already got a well-developed green thumb or they're just starting to get some dirt under their nails, everyone could use a new plant. Bloomscape delivers plants across the country with gorgeous planters and has a huge variety, so they can pick the plant of their dreams (thinking of you the whole time, of course).

Gift card presentation idea: Bloomscape keeps it green and only offers e-gift cards. You have the option to send it with a message, though, so include a sweet sentence or two about your hopes for their new plant baby. If you want something they can unwrap as part of the gift card presentation, opt for something plant adjacent, like an upgraded watering can.

Airbnb Gift Card

Help them get away with a gift card they can use toward a stay at one of thousands of intriguing homes around the world—or for unique experiences wherever they wander. (They can even use it for online experiences like classes or virtual tours or even itinerary planning help.)

Gift card presentation idea: Delivery options are by email or text only, so your best option for getting creative with this gift is to write a meaningful message. You only have 150 characters, so be brief—consider writing a list of the best trips you've taken together or a single favorite (short) travel memory. If you want a tangible gift, consider luggage tags or cool travel-sized beauty products.

Blue Apron Gift Card

Whether they're celebrating a new addition to the family or just trying to get through a hectic holiday season, anyone is sure to appreciate a little help with meal planning. Blue Apron delivers everything they need for a healthy, delicious meal straight to their door, minimizing food waste, eliminating the need to go to the grocery store, and making meal cooking a little more enjoyable. (Of course, this gift card idea is best for those who still enjoy cooking but want to eliminate the prepwork of scouring the internet for recipes and searching for ingredients in the grocery store.)

Gift card presentation idea: Start their streak of home-cooked meals off right with a gifted one. Make a casserole, sweet treat, or bread and deliver it with the gift card tucked inside.

TisBest Gift Card

Equip them to donate to any cause of their choice with a TisBest charity gift card. This organization offers gift cards in any increment that recipients can then use to donate to their pick of 1.5 million leading charities. They can split their donation across organizations or pick just one for maximum impact, and TisBest can print and send custom biodegradable plastic gift cards or email an e-gift card, depending on how you want to present your gift.

Gift card presentation idea: Minimize your footprint—and respect the charitable recipient's likely ecological leanings—by sending an e-gift card with a witty message. If you want a tangible gift, pair it with a gift from a company that donates a portion of their proceeds to a charity.

Etsy Gift Card

When you're looking for something handmade, personal, or truly one-of-a-kind, Etsy is the marketplace to scour. Finding that perfect present can be challenging when faced with so many creative and customizable options, until now. This card will allow gift recipients to purchase at any shop that accepts the gift card.

Gift card presentation idea: Make it truly personal: Package with an initial ornament or maybe a homemade batch of the recipient's favorite treat.

Wine.com Gift Card

When you can't recall if it was chardonnay or cabernet that they prefer, this is the smart gift-giving solution. Meant for the holiday host who enjoys handpicking and ordering their bottle after the company has gone home.

Gift card presentation idea: Bundle the card with a set of cute coasters or a pair of stemless wine glasses.

DonorsChoose.org Gift Card

Donors Choose

Never underestimate the power of the gift that gives back. A card to DonorsChoose.org lets your recipient be instrumental in improving the lives of students across the country. Making a difference can happen in a few ways: Think purchasing classroom supplies (pencils, reference books, lab materials) or browsing and choosing a specific project they're most inspired by.

Gift card presentation idea: This much love needs only a simple festive ribbon—but if you want to gift a little something extra, consider fun colored pencils or stationery.

Mouth Gift Card

If your friend loves trying out the latest food trends, they'll love shopping at Mouth, which sells unique, American-made indie food products. They can also try out monthly subscription boxes, such as popcorn or bacon of the month.

Gift card presentation idea: Attach to a serving tray or cheese board.

Whole Foods Gift Card

You can't beat the fruit basket, but certain people like picking their own peaches and pears. For the shopper with an all-natural mentality, this idea is worth just as much as money to spend at their favorite market.

Gift card presentation idea: A stylish reusable grocery bag, of course!

alomoves.com

11 Quirky and Creative Ways to Give Gift Cards This Christmas

Last updated - November 10, 2023

Happy black lady in Santa hat using digital tablet and credit card to buy Christmas gifts on web from home

To me, finding creative ways to give gift cards for Christmas is as much of a joy as the season itself.

During the Christmas holiday, I like giving my friends and family members gift cards that are creatively presented and memorable. I try to show whoever gets my gift cards just how much I appreciate them without actually having to tell them. I’ve been giving it a lot of thought lately as the festive season approaches.

Here are some creative ways to give gift cards that I have used and experienced with positive feedback over the years. They made me and my loved ones appreciate the gifts even more.

1. Hiding a Gift Card in a Candy Jar

It is a great feeling to open a jar of my favorite candy only to realize there is a second gift inside the jar. During the holiday season, I try to make sure that all my friends and family members with a sweet tooth experience how it feels to open a jar filled with their favorite candy and a gift card on Christmas morning.

I created a beautiful container using a mason jar. I fill the mason jar with a candy bar assortment or snacks like M&Ms, jelly beans, or Skittles. Sometimes, I use dried berries, granola, or almonds when I want to give it a healthier twist. I place a gift tag on the jar to minimize confusion as to whom the gift card belongs. Candy jars are suitable for last-minute gift ideas.

2. Creating a Puzzle Box

It is always fun when the recipient of the gift card has to solve a puzzle before accessing the gift card. The puzzle can be simple or advanced depending on my liking and whoever the gift card belongs to. I can construct a puzzle box using existing boxes, cardstock paper, or cardboard. I use this method of presenting a gift card to children or puzzle-loving adults.

There are maze boxes specifically designed for this purpose that can be bought. Purchasing a maze box is easier since I only have to open the maze, place the gift card inside, and place the box under a tree. To access the gift card, the recipient has to unlock the puzzle.

3. Making an Envelope Gift Card Holder

Presenting a gift card inside an envelope can be interesting, especially if it is a handmade envelope. A DIY origami envelope is simple and thoughtful and can prove to be a pretty sophisticated presentation for an otherwise simple gift card. It only requires a bit of decorative paper cut into a 9-inch square.

4. Placing a Gift Card Inside a Mug or Tumbler

Pairing a gift card with a small, affordable, but related item is a good idea. The person who receives my gift card will spend the money, but the item that held the gift card—in this case, the mug or tumbler—will be a reminder of the gift and the experience.

Since Christmas takes place during the winter season and everyone enjoys a hot drink during winter, I like presenting gift cards in mugs. Purchase a cute mug, fill it with crinkled paper shreds or tissue paper, and then insert the gift card halfway in, allowing it to peek out at the top. If I know the recipient’s hot beverage of choice, I sometimes tuck a few in the mug.

5. Putting It in a Snow Globe

Another interesting way to present a gift card is by creating a simple snow globe. All I need to make this snow globe is a mason jar, glitter, water, a hot glue gun, and any other available decoration suitable for the snow globe.

This method only works with plastic gift cards since they have to be submerged in water. If I am out of time and want to use a snow globe to make my presentation, I can purchase a ready-made snow globe specifically designed to hold a gift card.

6. Present the Gift Card With a Bottle

Another method of gift card presentation is by pairing it with the recipient’s beverage of choice. Attach the gift card to the recipient’s favorite wine bottle, hard liquor, or even a bag of coffee. This method is suitable for grab bags during a corporate party and last-minute Christmas gifts.

7. Put It in a Small Pouch

A gift card can also be paired with a tiny zippered pouch. There are different pouches available with cute images or sayings on them. However, I can decide to use one with a personal photo or the name of my loved one.

It’s fun opening the pouch to reveal the gift card. After removing and using the gift card, the pouch can be used as a wallet or purse. For students, I prefer to present the gift card in a slim zippered pencil case. Practical, right?

8. Creating a Pop-Up Card or Booklet

Another detailed and ingenious way of giving a gift card is by making a fun pop-up envelope or booklet to reveal the gift card and give it center stage. There are tutorials available online that illustrate how to make this kind of unique gift card presentation. They also have good designs to choose from.

9. Give Multiple Gift Cards as a Wreath

pink roses with label with lettering gift card

When giving individuals or families multiple gift cards, I creatively present them as a gift card wreath. A plain holiday wreath can be a grapevine or an artificial fir.

The gift cards are arranged around the wreath, and then decorative clips are used to attach them. Apart from being attractive, this gift card wreath presentation can also be used as a decoration for several holidays to come.

10. Knitting a Gift Card Holder

Whenever I am feeling extra crafty, I crochet a DIY gift card holder with a Santa theme. This requires some crocheting knowledge or the enthusiasm to learn basic stitching. All the effort will result in a beautiful gift card holder that can also be used as a keepsake pouch or coin purse.

If you are well-versed in knitting or sewing, then a DIY gift card holder is definitely a creative idea to consider. When not up to the task of knitting, I purchase a ready-to-use gift card holder or recycle an already existing one I have lying around.

All I have to do is add some elements, such as buttons and trim. I can also hand stamp a design or message on the crocheted card holder that is relevant to the recipient.

11. Use Nested Gift Boxes

Nested boxes are interesting gifts that are guaranteed to elicit some laughter from the recipient. It allows a friend or family member to open several boxes before revealing the gift card. First, the gift card is placed in a small box and wrapped. Then, the wrapped box is placed in a bigger box, which is subsequently wrapped. The process is repeated over and over.

Unwrapping the boxes will prompt some laughter before the card recipient gets to it. Recycled cardboard boxes of different sizes can be used instead of purchasing nesting boxes.

It’s not always easy to find the best gift for friends and family; therefore, gift cards are the best option if I want to ensure my loved ones are happy during the Christmas holiday.

However, giving the gift cards in a more creative way takes them from boring to exciting! The fun packaging also ensures tons of fun for the gift recipient. Feeling even more creative? Check out some fun ways to give money as a gift instead.

Even before you say it- I agree, gift cards, sometimes, are the best gift to give. But dang, it’s so hard to make a great impression with them even if it’s an awesome find. Well, worry not, here are some genius creative ways to give gift cards that will truly impress the recipient and beat out the rest of the BIG gift boxes at the party!!

17 Creative Ways to Give Gift Cards

Here are some clever ways to make your gift card stand out in the crowd of big gift boxes!

creative ideas for gift card presentation

1. Add Hilarious Ideas How They Can Spend The Amount

Giving them a cash card or gift card from a large department store? Make it more interesting by adding some hilarious (or some actually useful) ideas suggesting what they can buy with the gift card.

Use post-it notes to add your suggestions (makes life much easier). Place it a nice gift box (confession time- I have used a small delivery box from Amazon for this, but I wrapped it NICELY of course) or use clear cellophane bag and add a large bow to it.

The recipient might rip open other’s gift, say thank you to the giver, and move on. BUT they will definitely spend the most time enjoying your creative gift!

2. Gift Card in a Haystack Game

Hide gift card in a bag full of hay

Inspired by the famous idiom ‘finding needle in the haystack’, this game will be plenty of fun for the recipient to play (hopefully) and even more fun for the guests to watch.

Take a large sack or bag and fill it up with a lot of hay. Other alternatives to hay could be dried leaves, flower petals (plenty of tutorials online on how to quickly press and dry flowers in microwave so you can make a lot, fast! Great idea if it’s a romantic occasion) or shredded colored paper.

Drop the gift card in the bag. Ask the recipient to dig through to find their gift. Shhh… don’t tell them it’s a gift card, let it be a surprise!!

3. Hide Card in Balloons for a Birthday Surprise

hide gift card in balloons for birthday

This one is perfect for a birthday party, and you would need balloons… LOT of them!

How many balloons? ideally, you can have as many as you want but you can also choose according to their age, for instance- 30 balloons, if they are turning 30 and so on.

Tell the recipient you couldn’t think of a gift so you brought them balloons to celebrate their inner child. Ask them to burst the balloon one by one to check if they are lucky enough to get something else.

Another idea is to tie the balloons around the house so they will need to run around popping balloons before they find their gift.

Ask other guests to join the game and suggest which balloon to pop next.

The recipient and all the attendees would have so much fun guessing which balloon to pop until one reveals your gift card.

4. Clever Tip for Travel Themed Gift Card

Are they moving to a different state/ country, going on honeymoon, vacationing, etc.? Such occassions are perfect for giving gift cards. Here is a unique idea that will add some jazz to your gift.

Pick out some coasters with images of the place they are traveling or moving to, tie your gift card on top of the coasters with help of baker’s twine or ribbon.

It can also make for a great parting gift for a friend or coworker.

5. Tip for Housewarming Gift Card

For the king or queen of the house! Take a poster board (you can buy it cheap from dollar store). The bigger you go, the better!

Title the poster board ‘for the king/ queen of the house’.

Cut out colored paper sheets in the shape of house, car, kitchen items, furniture, etc., making sure the cut outs are large enough to hide a gift card behind.

Stick these cut outs on the poster board and hide the gift card behind one of the cut outs.

They can keep guessing and checking all the cut outs on your poster board till they find a gift card under one.

P.S: You can hide the card behind picture of a kitchen appliance if you would like them to buy something for their kitchen with the gift card or just leave the decision to them.

6. Another Tip for Housewarming Gift Card

gift card in box full of dried lavender for housewarming

Place the gift card in an organza bag or a box. Fill it with dried lavender or their favorite flower petals. I used dried lavender from my mom-in-law’s garden so if you have some growing in your garden make use of it!

Don’t forget to add a ribbon and a note to your gift.

I decided to go with dried lavender since it can be used around the house easily. They can easily repurpose it to enjoy it in several different ways-  keep it in their drawers or closet so their clothes smell great all the time, keep it in decorative jars around the house to make their house smell great, etc.

7. Creative Way to Give iTunes Gift Card

creative ideas for gift card presentation

For an iTunes gift card, here is an artistic way to make it stand out.

Use an old CD and CD cover. Make a collage of their favorite singers on the CD and attach the gift card in the middle.

Tip: You can try to look for old CDs in thrift stores in your area.

Any CD will do since most probably they don’t have a CD player anymore OR once you are done decorating the CD, let’s just say, it will no longer be good for the intended use anyways.

If you don’t have access to a CD, then you can also use a large poster board to make the collage. Wrap it up nicely so it looks like a giant photo frame. Then just wait to see the look on their faces when they open it.

8. Tip for A Lottery Player

Do they love to play lottery? Make the gift a double surprise for them by adding some lottery tickets along with their gift card.

Pick different lotteries to make your gift more colorful and attractive. You can use a poster board to do this or even a good old mason jar.

9. Set Up a Mini Scavenger Hunt

Set up a mini scavenger hunt at the end of which they can find their prize- the gift card!

You can also set up a grand scavenger hunt! It is totally up to you how hard you want the recipient to work to get to their gift.

10. Box of Surprise

Use an old cardboard box, fill it with confetti and place your gift card in the box. Wrap it up nicely and you’re done! You can go as BIG as you want with your box to beat out the rest of the gift boxes.

11. Gift Card with Wine Bottle

If you are gifting a bottle of wine with your gift card. Wrap the gift card and attach it to one end of an orange stick, then stick the other end of the stick into the cork.

Wrap the wine bottle with wrapping paper and your gift is ready!

You can also use pom-poms on top end of the stick to add more glamor and style.

12. Lazy Man’s Creative Way

jar full of candy with gift card

Fill a mason jar with their favorite candy with your gift card inside. Tie a ribbon on it- make it look pretty!

I said LAZY man’s creative way since the idea came from my husband, ha ha!

I love simple ideas like these that use mason jars, because I LOVE mason jars for diy gifts. You can add pretty much anything to them even small alcohol bottles (perfect for anyone turning 21).

The best part is that the recipient can always repurpose the mason jar around the house. And oh, if you don’t know already- check out your nearest dollar store for these jars.

13. Chocolaty Surprise

Hide the gift card inside the chocolate wrapper, the OUTER covering, not the silver/ gold wrapper that covers the actual chocolate.

Stick a large bow on the chocolate and see everyone’s reaction as you gift the chocolate bar to the recipient with all the pomp!

Don’t forget to tell them ‘I know you will enjoy it more than any other gift here’… uhm… you can also skip saying it!

Ways to Gift Multiple Gift Cards

Planning to gift a bunch of gift cards to your staff members, family, etc.? Here are some adorable ideas that make it easy to make the gift cards seem more presentable and exciting.

14. Bouquet of Gift Cards

Stick the gift cards on flower-shaped paper cutouts. Then tape these flower cut-outs on one end of the orange stick.

(I do recommend choosing cardstock paper for flower cutouts since it is sturdier than regular paper. But, if you are in a pinch, go for what you have at hand).

Prepare all gift cards like that.

Tie them in a bunch and place inside a vase with a big ribbon around it. You can fill the vase/ jar with some jellybeans, so the sticks stay in place.

Tip: If you want, you can always add a sweet message for your coworkers on the backside of the paper cutouts. You can add note of appreciation or a sweet message for the holidays.

15. The Pizza Box Surprise

Take an empty pizza box or donut box.

Open the box and place all the gift cards, along with small handwritten notes, under the top cover so that when the recipients open the box they see the cards on the underside of the top lid.

You can choose to fill the box with homemade cookies, donuts, actual pizza, etc.!

It’s such a fun way of giving your coworkers gift cards for the holidays!

Just make sure to cover your gift cards and notes in some clear plastic.

Also, check out – do gift cards make a good gift idea

16. Pop Up Surprise Box

Pizza box surprise

Take an empty box and some wire springs . Stick each gift card on one end of the spring. Tape the other end of the spring inside the box.

Close the box with the gift cards attached on wire springs inside.

It is important that you choose the size of the spring such that when the box is opened all the gift cards bounce out of the box a bit.

The recipients will be thrilled even before they open their gift cards.

Tip: I don’t recommend pizza or donuts for this one. For hygiene concerns, it is safer to add candies since they are individually wrapped.

17. Gift Card Bearing Tree

This one is so much fun. You will have an amazing time making it!

Nothing screams Christmas, like Christmas trees. They are such a big part of the holiday season that I thought this one is perfect for the holidays.

If you are giving out gift cards to your staff during the holiday season for Christmas, then head out to the dollar store near you and buy a small plastic Christmas tree.

Hang all the gift cards with the name of the recipients or their pictures on the tree. You can also decorate the tree with some cheap battery-operated fairy lights to make it look extra special.

Set the tree at your desk or pantry before the staff starts to show up so you can see their surprised faces as they roll in.

P.S: This will also work for families, your church group, etc.

It all sounds like a little bit of effort but now you know how easy it is to make even a small gift (by size) stand out. I hope you liked these creative ideas for presenting gift cards that will delight the recipient.

17 Fun Gift Card Wrapping Ideas

Last Updated: November 2, 2023

All > DIY > 17 Fun Gift Card Wrapping Ideas

Gift cards are an awesome choice for gifting because they guarantee your friend or family member will snag something they truly adore. Yet, owing to their diminutive size, coming up with creative gift card wrapping ideas can often pose a bit of a challenge.

While it’s certainly convenient to present them in an envelope with a card or slip them into a small gift bag, going the extra mile with an imaginative presentation can convey the depth of your care and thoughtfulness. But let’s face it – brainstorming enjoyable methods to wrap a gift card can sometimes become a time-consuming puzzle, especially if you’re not sure where to kick things off.

Here’s a pro tip: Take your gift card up a notch by pairing it with a small, thoughtful gift , like these nifty last-minute ideas. This not only infuses a thoughtful surprise but also provides ample opportunities for infusing creativity into your gift card wrapping.

Don’t sweat it, though! We’ve thoughtfully curated a selection of creative techniques to make your gift card wrapping a breeze, allowing you to dive straight into the fun of it!

Ugly Sweater Gift Card Holder

Whether it’s for Christmas or another celebration, everyone loves an ugly Christmas sweater. Using Kelli Murray’s guide , you can hand paint a sweater and turn it into a fun gift card holder!

This holder is great for any holiday gifts, especially gift cards to your friend’s favorite clothing store. Plus, if you aren’t the artsy type, you can always buy a print of an ugly sweater from your local craft store to use instead.

Paper Envelope Gift Card Holder

Turn a regular envelope you’d use for a card into a beautiful gift card wrapping with patterned paper and stickers. Maggie Holmes Designs shows you how with different flower cutouts and polka dot paper.

You can even cut your own craft paper into an envelope, like she suggests in her tutorial, or decorate a patterned envelope. Then, kill two birds with one stone by including a sweet note to your friend with the gift card!

Reusable Cloth Gift Bag

Give your friend a gift card with a handmade touch by using a cloth gift bag. You can sew it together yourself to make it even more personal. Be sure to check out the complete walkthrough on Craft Snob , where she has all the measurements for sewing the cloth gift bag together.

Once you have your bag, stuff it with treats, tissue paper or other goodies. To keep the gift card tidy, you can place it inside its own box!

Watermelon Gift Card Box

Stickers are a fun way to decorate a gift card box and make it feel more unique. Sarah Hearts shows you how you can easily decorate a box with watermelon stickers for a creative way to wrap a gift card.

Plus, if you’re in a pinch and don’t have a box, you can build your own following Sarah’s guide. Then, once you’ve finished creating the box, wrap a string or bow around it to make it really feel like a gift!

Printable Fruit Gift Bag

Print out these fun fruit gift bags from Make and Tell for quick DIY gift card wrapping. They’re perfect for summer holidays, birthdays or any tropical themed party!

Once you’ve created the gift bag, add the gift card and any other treats you want to give your friend, like a small note or photo. You can even stick with the fruit theme and fill the bag with fruity snacks or candy!

Glitter Dipped Gift Bag

Make your gift card wrapping look festive by adding some glitter! Using Dream a Little Bigger’s tutorial, all you need is a brown paper bag, glue and glitter to get started!

To create this glitter gift bag, simply cover the area you want to decorate in glue and sprinkle it with the glitter of your choice. Once your bag has dried, fill it with shredded craft paper or tissue to stick with the festive theme. Then add the gift card to the bag for super easy DIY wrapping.

No-Sew Fabric Gift Bag

If sewing isn’t your thing, try out these no-sew fabric gift bags from We Are Scout . Pick out a pretty fabric from one of the fabric stores or grab some scrap fabric from your home, then cut it into a square. You can even use pinking scissors for a fun zigzag shape.

Once you’re done, tape the fabric together with double-sided tape to create the shape of a pouch, then put your gift card inside. Then, add embellishments or other fun accent pieces to really personalize it.

Holiday Gift Card Holder

If you’re a crafty person, you’ll want to give this holiday gift card holder a try. It’s made from an acrylic sheet and peel and stick floor tiles, which is great for the handyman or handywoman in your life! Following At Charlotte’s House’s guide you can add fun, festive embellishments like Christmas lights or mistletoe.

This solution makes for a great way to showcase your gift card. Plus, your friend can reuse the holder for other important things, like a bus pass or a membership card.

Gift Card Insert Envelope

These beautiful gift card holders work like mini booklets with the gift card resting in between the “cover.” Have a scoring stylus on hand so your gift card envelope can be cut properly like Everyday Jenny shows in her tutorial.

Feel free to experiment with different papers and prints, especially if you want to wrap your gift card for a holiday celebration. Once you’ve finished you can tie a bow between the two holes as a final touch.

Mason Jar Gift Card Holder With Candy

Adding candy to a gift card immediately makes it feel like a more thoughtful gift, especially when given in a festive mason jar!

Grab two mason jars of different sizes with the same size lids. Fill the smaller jar with candy and place the gift card in the bigger one. Then, glue the two rings together so that they keep the two jars together when screwed like Something Turquoise shows in her tutorial.

Gift-Shaped Gift Card Holder

If you still want to give your friend a gift card in a traditional box but aren’t sure what size to use, try giving them a gift-shaped gift card holder instead. The best part? This holder even opens like a box!

Find a fun scrapbook paper to get started, cutting the rest of the paper out to look like a present. Once you’ve glued everything together and made the sliding compartment you can add the gift card like Scrapbook and Cards Today did.

Lunch Sack Gift Bag

Who knew you could take an old lunch sack and turn it into a cute gift card wrapping idea? These festive, stamped lunch sacks from Pure Sweet Joy are an easy way to use what’s already in your house to wrap your gift card.

You can stamp the lunch sack directly for a rustic look, or decorate the bags with printed paper for a clean feel.

Cassette Tape Gift Card Holder

Put old cassette tape holders to use by giving your next gift card in one. Simply remove the printed sleeve from the original cassette, then start decorating it!

You can use stickers, glitter or fun decorative paper like Mod Podge Rocks does in her guide. Once everything has dried, add glass paint to the edges of the cassette holder to add a final touch and make it look unique.

Paper Bow Gift Card Holder

Wrap your gift card using nothing but paper with this DIY paper bow and gift box tutorial. It looks just like a gift wrapped with wrapping paper, but with a homemade touch.

Unless you are particularly crafty with scissors, you’ll want to use a cutting machine and template to create these gift card holders. Once you’ve cut out your box, add a matching paper bow like Maritza Lisa did to make it look like you’ve really “wrapped” your gift card.

Felt Envelope

Instead of gifting your card in a regular envelope, why not make an envelope using felt? All you need are some sewing supplies and felt to get started!

In Paper & Stitch’s felt envelope tutorial, she personalized the back of the envelope so it looks like an actual letter in the mail. To add on your own mailing address or stamp, simply cut out more felt in the appropriate shape and sew it on for a creative way to wrap a gift card.

Gift Card Wrapped With Another Item

You can also attach a gift card to a smaller gift to make it more exciting like A Beautiful Mess did.

All you need to create cute gift card wrapping is a small bow or some string to decorate the two gifts. To secure the gift card, tape it to whatever small item you are giving so it doesn’t get lost. Then, voila! You have an easy, creative way to wrap your gift card!

Gift Card Wrapped in a DIY Sleeve

Instead of using the sleeve that comes with your gift card, you can make your own using fun patterns and card stock. Though the gift card sleeve may seem hard to make, Kaley Ann  of Live Well Travel Often shows how easy it is to assemble the paper together.

First, cut out the paper sleeve. Next, take some thin cardboard or chipboard and glue the sleeve to it so it’s sturdy. Once it’s dried, you can add a fold out card or some other note on the back using leftover paper.

Gift cards make for an easy, guaranteed way to give someone something they are sure to like.  However, to add a nice surprise, consider adding a small gift to go with the gift card, like these quick, last-minute gifts . It not only makes the gift appear more thoughtful but also gives you more ways to be creative with your gift card wrapping!

Creative and Fun Ways to Give Gift Cards

Inside: Creative and clever ways to elevate boring gift cards into thoughtful gifts good for the holiday season or any special occasion!

creative ideas for gift card presentation

When you give a gift card to someone, do you feel that pang of guilt and embarrassment because it seems impersonal, boring, and you’re afraid it whispers, “I had better things to do than think about what to get you”?

I know I do. I really don’t like giving gift cards at all if I can help it.

But we need to get over feeling bad about gift card giving. Because gift cards can be one of the best gifts—the recipient will always get exactly what they want. That means no unloved, unwanted gifts sitting in the closet waiting to be regifted.

And with a little creativity, gift cards can be just as thoughtful as any other gift!

We all have people on our gift list who we have a hard time buying for—and gift cards really are the best option. I’ve rounded up lots of ways to make that gift card seem a little more special, a little more thoughtful, and a little larger than that tiny boring gift card sleeve.

How do I give a gift card creatively?

Here’s a good rule of thumb when planning a more interesting way to give the gift card: keep the wrapping presentation appropriate for the amount on the gift card you’re giving. Save the more elaborate presentation for large gift cards, or you’ll likely have disappointed gift recipients, expecting more from the build-up. A little friendly advice—don’t wrap a $10 gift card in an iPhone box.

Ways to make gift cards more personal.

creative ideas for gift card presentation

With the vast variety of options out there, you’re not limited to a Visa or Amazon gift card (although those are the safest). A great way to make a gift card more personal is to tailor it to the person’s interests and to what they like. Here are a few suggestions with fun gift card presentation ideas to cover many of the people on your list:

Restaurant and food gift cards.

creative ideas for gift card presentation

For the foodie, simply pull some disposable metallic or colored cutlery from the drawer and tie it up with the gift card for a fun touch.

Fashion or clothing gift cards.

A gift card to a clothing store where you know the person likes to shop is always a winner, especially since getting someone’s size and style right is tricky.

A cute idea is to dress up a clothing gift card in its own “card”igan . This one is also an ornament. And so stinking cute with its tiny hanger:

creative ideas for gift card presentation

Or if the store has an iconic, high quality shopping bag, use it as the gift bag. Just seeing it is sure to get your gift recipient excited ( think Lululemon’s reusable bags ).

Kitchen store gift cards.

Tie a gift card to Williams-Sonoma around a new rubber spatula—I know I can never have too many of these.

Movie gift cards.

creative ideas for gift card presentation

For the movie lover, purchase gift cards to any of the movie theater chains or to a streaming service like Netflix or Hulu. Pop it in a popcorn container with some movie goodies or into a box of classic movie candy like Milk Duds or Twizzlers.

If there’s a series they’re really into on a streaming service you’re giving a gift card for, another fun idea is to theme the wrapping for the show.

Travel gift cards.

Give the gift of travel with a gift card to any of the hotel chains, Hotels.com, or even a VRBO or Air BnB gift card. All the major airlines also offer gift cards.

Luggage tags make the perfect gift card holder for gift cards that have to do with travel. You can even add a personal touch with a nice personalized tag . A passport holder makes another good gift card holder.

Let’s throw Uber gift cards into the travel section as well. Package some free rides with mini liquor bottles or a sleeve of Fireball. It’s a great gift for after Christmas to use on New Year’s Eve!

Coffee gift cards.

A gift card for a warm cup of joe is almost universally appreciated since the cost of a weekly tall at Starbucks really adds up. Make a cute coffee mug “basket” like this Christmas cocoa one:

creative ideas for gift card presentation

Or take the coffee sleeve and glue it together on the bottom and voila , you have a holder for a Starbucks gift card (or their favorite local coffee shop). You can also put a gift card in a Starbucks cup with a special message “order” written on the side. Or gift it in a nice reuseable thermal travel mug to keep their drink warm.

Photography gift cards.

A gift card to have portraits made is a wonderful gift that they’ll always treasure. Frame the gift card (or make a gift certificate) in a frame they can use for their new photos.

Really rather not give a gift card? Check out this gift guide of thoughtful and unique gift ideas for the holiday season or any special occasion for that hard to buy for person in the post, “ Thoughtful, Useful & Unique Gifts for People Who Don’t Want Anything “

Book gift cards.

Buy a gift card to Barnes and Noble and let them peruse the shelves to pick the book themselves instead of guessing what they might like, or haven’t already read. Clip on a pretty bow and a nice bookmark.

creative ideas for gift card presentation

Another gift card idea for the bookworm if you already know what book to give, is to make the gift card itself the bookmark in the book. Bonus points if it’s a gift card for something to do with the subject or story!

Makeup or personal care gift card.

Give them a Sephora gift card for beauty, makeup, and pampering products. Or a gift that gives every month with a gift card to a subscription box like Birchbox . Tuck it in a cute makeup bag , or slip it into a compact mirror for their purse:

Gardening gift cards.

Give a gift card to the local plant nursery to the gardener on your list. Stick it into a pretty plant. Or put it in a pair of gardening gloves, with a seed packet, or tie it on a fresh new gardening hand trowel.

And if you want to be crafty, glue the gift card to the center of a colored cardstock or foam flower , then glue the flower on a wood dowel or skewer and stick it into styrofoam in a little garden pot. Or make a whole bouquet of gift card flowers. This is always popular for teacher appreciation week with the message, “ thanks for helping me grow “!

Craft store gift cards.

The crafter can always use a gift card to Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Joann. And a shiny new sharp pair of scissors. Tie the gift card to some pretty scissors that look good as well as work good:

Outdoor recreation gift cards.

Pair a gift card to Cabela’s, Bass Pro, or REI with a swiss army knife multitool , a Hothands handwarmer , or a flashlight.

Sporting goods gift cards.

Tuck it into some good cushy socks, a package of baseball cards, or tie it around small items specific to their sport.

Or with some yummy cake balls with the message “ have a ball “!

Music or audiobook gift cards.

Buy a gift card for Spotify or Audible and pair it with some wireless earbuds .

Pet store gift cards.

Sometimes a gift for pet lovers makes them just as happy as something they’d use themselves. Attach a gift card to Petsmart to a bone or a small toy. Or with a special Christmas ornament that you can write the pet’s name on:

  • Attach them to a wreath, garland, or tree with clothespins for a special Christmas group gift.

Creative and funny ways to wrap a cash gift.

In addition to gift cards, cash is often given to graduates because there are so many creative ideas and ways to give those green dollar bills!

  • Make a money tree ( they’ll soon learn that money doesn’t grow on them ).
  • Make a money pizza in a pizza box.

Gift cards have become a go-to option for many gift givers and are my FAVORITE. They are convenient, flexible, and allow the recipient to choose what they really want or need. However, presenting a gift card in an attractive and thoughtful way can elevate the gift even further!

Adding just a little bit extra to the presentation provides a more personalized touch, which is probably the entire reason you are on my site! So whether you are giving a gift card for a birthday, holiday, or other special occasion, these ideas will help you make a lasting impression on the recipient.

Individual Gift Card Presentation Ideas

Grab a super cute personalized gift card holder like the one’s I’ve linked from Parker Grove Lane! They are adorable and can also double as ornaments during the holidays!

Another creative idea for presenting a gift card is to use a luggage tag. Simply attach the gift card to the tag with a ribbon or twine and write a personalized message on the tag. Plus, the recipient can then use the tag on their travels, making it a practical and thoughtful gift presentation. I've attached some of my favorite luggage tags available on Amazon below!

Or for a sweet treat, you can fill a mason jar with candy or other small items and then add the gift card on top or in the middle. Tie a ribbon around the jar and add a gift tag. This is a great way to give a gift card and something sweet at the same time! I've linked some fun jars and vases you could do this with and even a coffee glass set that would be PERFECT for a Starbucks gift card!

Multiple Gift Card Presentation Ideas

Gift Card Bouquet: This is a fun way to present multiple gift cards to someone. You can create a bouquet using floral foam, skewers, and tissue paper. Or you can grab a plant at the store and some card holder stakes to add! Either way simply attach the gift cards to the skewers and stick them into the floral arrangement. I've linked some inspiration pics and included the links to the floral stakes here !

Gift Card Wreath: Especially great for the holiday season! Create a wreath using small envelopes and gift cards. Attach the envelopes to a foam wreath form using hot glue and then add the gift cards inside. This is a great way to give multiple gift cards and create a festive decoration at the same time. I absolutely love these two below.
