How to use AI to help with Homework

Homework is meant to reinforce classroom lessons and develop critical thinking skills. Yet stacked assignments with confusing concepts and tight deadlines often leave students overwhelmed and lacking deeply understood foundations.

This is where AI homework helper apps come in - your personalized tutor available 24/7 to explain challenging material conversationally until clarity clicks. AI capabilities transform homework from isolated frustration to engaging progression.

Let's explore top techniques for responsibly leveraging AI to master tricky homework across academic subjects. Say goodbye to late nights guessing answers alone!

Why Students Struggle Through Homework Alone

Attempting to power through homework solo often backfires due to:

1. Ambiguous Instructions - Remembering exact formatting needs or creative constraints can be tough. And complex academic language leaves guesswork for what a question is even asking.

2. Foundational Knowledge Gaps - New lessons build on assumed comprehended concepts from past courses. When fundamentals remain foggy, new material confuses further.

3. Fixed Resources - Attempting to teach yourself new material with just a textbook or sparse online searching provides limited perspectives. Some learning styles need alternate explanations.

4. Tight Deadlines - Getting stuck on one aspect delays completing further questions. And grading pressures magnify anxiety attempting new skills without sample applications.

"The assigned readings felt almost like a foreign language. I understood the overall topic but couldn't grasp key theories well enough to answer homework prompts correctly."

Thankfully AI advancement now provides students customizable support previously unavailable.

Why AI is a Game Changer for Personalized Academic Help

AI homework assistants excel by:

Explaining Concepts Conversationally - Using natural language interactions, AI helps break down confusing aspects into digestible steps while allowing iterative follow-up questions.

Meeting You At Your Level - AI assessment of knowledge gaps lets its explanations start basic before advancing to higher complexity tailored to you.

Providing Visual Examples - Rendering study aid graphics, idea maps, charts and more to suit different learning preferences with visuals assisting memory retention.

Recommending Related Resources - Suggesting complementary videos, textbook sections, online sources to dive deeper across diverse media.

Unlike one-size-fits-all paper textbooks, AI tutors adapt to individuals' pacing and trouble spots for true personalization. Students gain both autonomy and support exactly when needed.

AI technology has been a game changer for understanding the more complex concepts covered in my courses. Asking follow-up questions until a light bulb moment occurs with the AI tutor has led to huge academic confidence boosts and submitting homework on time without guesswork.

Now let's see step-by-step how leading homework helper platforms enable transformative assistance...

A Walkthrough of AI Homework Helpers in Action

Tools like Just Think make it simple to tap into AI knowledge without any app downloads. Here's how students can get homework clarity:

1. Submit Your Homework Question

Snap a photo of the question, copy/paste long-form text prompts into the app interface, or dictate queries aloud via voice notes. This initial input captures the assignment details to be solved.

2. Receive Detailed AI Explanations

The AI homework assistant then gets to work analyzing the question and your knowledge gaps before delivering personalized explanations to teach you step-by-step techniques for solving problems successfully.

Visual elements are incorporated where helpful to simplify complex processes through relationship mappings. Diagrams enhance memory and application for tricky concepts.

3. Ask Iterative Follow-Up Questions

Confused still? The AI allows back and forth dialogue through additional questions from you, then answering conversationally with tweaked vocabulary and examples tailored to the obstacles in your comprehension.

This interactivity removes feelings of being stuck on your own, instead building momentum towards that satisfied "aha!" moment.

Subjects Where AI Homework Help Excels

Here are academic areas where students gain the most from AI writing and comprehension support:

  • Algebra, calculus, statistics concepts explained conversationally
  • Step-by-step guidance on solving equations
  • Personalized approaches if gaps in foundations
  • Breaking down complex physics, chemistry, biology theories through diagrams
  • Supplemental readings for enhanced understanding
  • Math foundations refreshers relevant to scientific formulas
  • Timeline visualizations for context around key events, people
  • Primary source analyses
  • Comparing biases and angles across historians

English Literature

  • Summarizing themes across lengthy assigned readings
  • Essay starter frameworks tuned to paper requirements
  • Grammar and syntax error flagging for polished prose
  • Real-time fixes for improving logic flow and efficiency
  • Debugging assistance
  • Code readability assessments

And many additional academic subjects are supported and expanding further as AI models continuously advance.

Responsible AI Usage for Optimizing Homework

With great power comes great responsibility. While collaborating with an AI homework helper unlocks huge efficiency gains, students should:

1. Use AI Explanations as Learning Springboards

The goal remains deeply comprehending material yourself, not just copying answers. Treat AI guidance as a tutor for unlocking clarity - master concepts explained to cement foundations.

2. Customize Guidance Around Your Strengths/Weaknesses

AI allows playbooks personalized for each student. Be transparent on knowledge gaps needing work so its approach targets areas precisely needing reinforcement.

3. Double Check AI Recommendations

As robust as underlying models may be, the chance of inaccuracies exists. Verify suggestions and fact check against other reputable sources when uncertain.

Following these best practices keeps your growth as the focus while responsibly optimizing academics.

Additional Homework Help Applications

While tackling challenging assignments takes prime advantage of AI powered homework assistance , students can utilize these personalized benefits for:

Studying & Exam Prep - Using conversational questioning to solidify understanding of core curriculum concepts across every subject.

Paper Proofreading & Editing - Getting objective feedback on draft coherence, grammar issues, and areas needing deeper analysis.

1-on-1 Lesson Support - Getting personalized tutoring from AI on topics you struggle most with via ongoing dialogue tailored to the obstacles blocking you.

Interactive Coding Environments - AI suggests tweaks for improving coding project efficiency, structure and offers industry best practice guidance relative to experience level.

The Future of AI & Education

As artificial intelligence research continues steadily improving machine learning models in areas like natural language processing, virtually every academic field will transform.

We're already seeing homework helper platforms acceleration due to capabilities like:

  • Answering open-ended questions, not just formulas
  • Lifelike dialogue vs rigid responses
  • Faster processing of handwritten work
  • Personalize guidance around dynamic knowledge

And in the coming years, increasing accountability around model transparency and ethical development will further cement AI assistants as trusted tutors. Soon getting stuck on assignments even in advanced courses will feel like a relic of the past.

Homework that once overwhelmed students attempting to teach themselves now has a personalized AI tutor reachable 24/7. Platforms like Just Think enable moving from confusion to clarity through natural dialogue tailored exactly to individual needs - no matter the academic subject.

With iterative Q&A sessions unlocking foundational comprehension at your own pace plus visual aids accelerating practical applications, homework levels up from isolated frustration to rewarding skill progression thanks to AI's expanded support.

So next time an assignment has you questioning abilities alone late into the night, empower yourself instead with an AI study buddy right by your side until that grades-boosting "aha!" moment. The future of learning looks abundantly bright.

A new AI chatbot might do your homework for you. But it's still not an A+ student

Enter a prompt into ChatGPT, and it becomes your very own virtual assistant. OpenAI/Screenshot by NPR hide caption

Enter a prompt into ChatGPT, and it becomes your very own virtual assistant.

Why do your homework when a chatbot can do it for you? A new artificial intelligence tool called ChatGPT has thrilled the Internet with its superhuman abilities to solve math problems, churn out college essays and write research papers.

After the developer OpenAI released the text-based system to the public last month, some educators have been sounding the alarm about the potential that such AI systems have to transform academia, for better and worse.

"AI has basically ruined homework," said Ethan Mollick, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, on Twitter.

The tool has been an instant hit among many of his students, he told NPR in an interview on Morning Edition , with its most immediately obvious use being a way to cheat by plagiarizing the AI-written work, he said.

Academic fraud aside, Mollick also sees its benefits as a learning companion.

Opinion: Machine-made poetry is here

Opinion: Machine-made poetry is here

He's used it as his own teacher's assistant, for help with crafting a syllabus, lecture, an assignment and a grading rubric for MBA students.

"You can paste in entire academic papers and ask it to summarize it. You can ask it to find an error in your code and correct it and tell you why you got it wrong," he said. "It's this multiplier of ability, that I think we are not quite getting our heads around, that is absolutely stunning," he said.

A convincing — yet untrustworthy — bot

But the superhuman virtual assistant — like any emerging AI tech — has its limitations. ChatGPT was created by humans, after all. OpenAI has trained the tool using a large dataset of real human conversations.

"The best way to think about this is you are chatting with an omniscient, eager-to-please intern who sometimes lies to you," Mollick said.

It lies with confidence, too. Despite its authoritative tone, there have been instances in which ChatGPT won't tell you when it doesn't have the answer.

That's what Teresa Kubacka, a data scientist based in Zurich, Switzerland, found when she experimented with the language model. Kubacka, who studied physics for her Ph.D., tested the tool by asking it about a made-up physical phenomenon.

"I deliberately asked it about something that I thought that I know doesn't exist so that they can judge whether it actually also has the notion of what exists and what doesn't exist," she said.

ChatGPT produced an answer so specific and plausible sounding, backed with citations, she said, that she had to investigate whether the fake phenomenon, "a cycloidal inverted electromagnon," was actually real.

When she looked closer, the alleged source material was also bogus, she said. There were names of well-known physics experts listed – the titles of the publications they supposedly authored, however, were non-existent, she said.

"This is where it becomes kind of dangerous," Kubacka said. "The moment that you cannot trust the references, it also kind of erodes the trust in citing science whatsoever," she said.

Scientists call these fake generations "hallucinations."

"There are still many cases where you ask it a question and it'll give you a very impressive-sounding answer that's just dead wrong," said Oren Etzioni, the founding CEO of the Allen Institute for AI , who ran the research nonprofit until recently. "And, of course, that's a problem if you don't carefully verify or corroborate its facts."

Users experimenting with the chatbot are warned before testing the tool that ChatGPT "may occasionally generate incorrect or misleading information." OpenAI/Screenshot by NPR hide caption

An opportunity to scrutinize AI language tools

Users experimenting with the free preview of the chatbot are warned before testing the tool that ChatGPT "may occasionally generate incorrect or misleading information," harmful instructions or biased content.

Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, said earlier this month it would be a mistake to rely on the tool for anything "important" in its current iteration. "It's a preview of progress," he tweeted .

The failings of another AI language model unveiled by Meta last month led to its shutdown. The company withdrew its demo for Galactica, a tool designed to help scientists, just three days after it encouraged the public to test it out, following criticism that it spewed biased and nonsensical text.

AI-generated fake faces have become a hallmark of online influence operations

Untangling Disinformation

Ai-generated fake faces have become a hallmark of online influence operations.

Similarly, Etzioni says ChatGPT doesn't produce good science. For all its flaws, though, he sees ChatGPT's public debut as a positive. He sees this as a moment for peer review.

"ChatGPT is just a few days old, I like to say," said Etzioni, who remains at the AI institute as a board member and advisor. It's "giving us a chance to understand what he can and cannot do and to begin in earnest the conversation of 'What are we going to do about it?' "

The alternative, which he describes as "security by obscurity," won't help improve fallible AI, he said. "What if we hide the problems? Will that be a recipe for solving them? Typically — not in the world of software — that has not worked out."

ChatGPT alternatives: 7 AI chatbots you can try for free

Seven AI bots to try instead of ChatGPT, from Bard to Bing Chat

Casual man relax chatting with chatbot via mobile smart phone application with speech bubble on virtual screen

Google Bard

Character.ai.

ChatGPT , the bot produced by OpenAI , seems to be everywhere right now. This interesting online assistant can answer questions, explain complex topics, and even write poems for Valentine's Day ; however, it’s far from perfect.

The bot’s knowledge is pretty limited (especially with regard to events after 2021 as its data is outdated), and if you aren’t a paid subscriber you might find that you’re locked out when ChatGPT's servers are too busy. It also doesn’t offer a massive suite of features beyond chatting and helping with text-based tasks like coding – this AI won’t be winning photography competitions any time soon.

So we've gathered seven free and paid ChatGPT alternatives that you might want to try out instead, from Google 's Bard to Bing Chat to Socratic, and more.

If you’re looking for a ChatGPT alternative that’s the most similar to it, then Microsoft ’s Bing Chat is the AI bot for you. This AI-powered version of the company’s search engine runs on the same framework as ChatGPT, so its answers and abilities should be pretty similar to those of its virtual cousin.

Bing Chat has one advantage, though: it can search the web.

Rather than having to rely on its digital libraries of stored data, Bing can retrieve information from anywhere on the internet – which should mean its knowledge is less limited than ChatGPT’s. Though by Bing Chat's own admission when the bot leaked its secret AI rules, Bing Chat isn’t promising to be correct with its answers – it’ll just serve up what the internet dishes out.

a screenshot of a bing search bar with the words

That said, Bing Chat will provide links to its sources, so you can investigate its recommendations and answers for yourself before choosing whether or not to rely on them.

Bing Chat is also free, with no paid tiers – so unlike ChatGPT, you won’t be booted off unless you pay up when demand is high. Before you can access Bing Chat you’ll need to join the waiting list , and hope Microsoft grants you access to its new service. So if you want to use an AI bot today, this likely won’t be the best pick.

  • Try Bing Chat out for yourself

Instead of Bing Chat or ChatGPT, you could try Bard, a search engine chatbot from Google.

In our hands-on Google Bard review , we admittedly weren’t super impressed with the bot. Yes, it’s prettier than many of the other ChatGPT alternatives but it’s not always super accurate with its responses – and it doesn’t properly credit where it’s getting its information from either. You should always take information from AI bots like ChatGPT and these alternatives with a  pinch of salt, but that sentiment feels especially true for Bard.

A laptop screen on a grey background showing a conversation with Google Bard

However, it’s still a pretty nifty free ChatPGT alternative and one that Google will be upgrading and tweaking plenty of times over the coming weeks and months – if its new Bard updates page is anything to go by .

To use Bard you’ll have to join a waitlist, though several members of our team have passed through the wait pretty quickly so if you sign up for Bard now it hopefully won’t be too long before you're able to use it.

  • Try Google Bard out for yourself

Character.AI is the best option on this list if you want to converse with an AI, though its service is more of a novelty than a helpful tool.

You can sign up for free using your email address, and you’ll then be able to have lengthy conversations with bots that are designed to chat as if they were a specific real-life person or fictional character. You can discuss science with Albert Einstein, Twitter drama with Elon Musk, and the goings on in Bikini Bottom with SpongeBob – or at least with AI approximations of these figures.

I particularly enjoyed talking to the AI Keanu Reeves about film, with the synthetic version of the action hero giving off the same kind-hearted energy as the kosher Keanu.

However, the chats aren’t particularly meaningful and lack the depth you’d expect when talking with an ‘expert’ in a specific field.

Chat with J. R. R. Tolkein in Character.AI

For example, I tried to get ‘Albert Einstein’ to explain special relativity to me (a theory the legendary physicist developed), but the bot could only provide me with very basic information about the relationships between mass, time, speed, and length in this framework. The information was accurate, but when I asked it to explain the ideas and expand on them it dodged the question, calling the subject “complicated.” That’s certainly an apt description, but we do know the reasoning behind special relativity, and a supposedly intelligent artificial Einstein should have been able to explain these ideas.

If you’re looking for a fine way to waste an hour or two then Character.AI is fun, but if you want a helpful AI it’s not the option for you.

  • Try Character.AI out for yourself

YouChat is another very ChatGPT-like bot, and relies on the web for many of its answers just like Bing Chat, but it’s free to use and there’s no waiting list, so you can start chatting with this bot right away.

While you should always take an AI bot’s advice and answers with a pinch of salt, I found that YouChat’s responses to my queries – which ranged from finding out about The Mandalorian Season 3 to asking for an explanation of CRISPR gene editing – were fairly accurate. Plus, it often provided links to sources for its info, and websites that I could explore to understand the topic better.

It does, however, have a couple of issues.

While YouChat did always provide links to websites I could visit to investigate a topic further, it didn’t always provide sources for the actual answers it gave. This not only made it difficult to verify statements but also made it seem like responses were YouChat’s own. However, I found that its responses were often just rewordings and amalgamations of information from a few sites on the web.

YouChat explaining CRISPR gene editing

What’s more, sometimes YouChat’s answers would just cut off. I asked it to give a short description of itself (I thought it would be fun to have the AIs introduce themselves as part of this piece) but it only provided: “I am a language model designed to assist with a wide range of tasks, from answering simple.” Which is hardly confidence-inspiring.

  • Try YouChat out for yourself

Socratic is a nifty AI that you can download to your iPhone or Android smartphone to help with homework questions that have you stumped. You can have it read questions using your camera, or ask it yourself using the voice assistant, and Socratic won’t just tell you the answer it will explain why that’s the answer too by providing links to answers from the web.

This app can help you better understand a whole load of different topics from science like biology and physics, to math essentials like algebra and trigonometry, and even poetry for your English classes. It’s pretty broad for a free service, though admittedly its knowledge isn’t endless – so you might find it won’t be able to assist you with every subject you’re struggling to wrap your head around.

The images shows that Socratic can be asked question about a range of topics and then it can explain why the answer is correct.

We wouldn’t recommend using the app to just cheat your way through all the homework you’ve been set, instead, we'd suggest asking it for help with the odd question you’re stuck on and then using what it teaches you to solve the rest yourself. This can be a fantastic way to learn a subject, as you aren't just blindly copying answers, you're learning why the answer to the question is the answer and then applying that new knowledge.

Even if your school teacher is fantastic their way of explaining a topic might not have clicked with you, but perhaps the explanations provided by Socratic will finally help you get to grips with a tough subject.

  • Try Socratic out for yourself

JasperChat is an AI bot for content creators and businesses. While it can provide the same kinds of answers to questions as Bing Chat and YouChat (with links to its sources from the web) it also has more sophisticated productivity-focused abilities.

It can summarize a long block of text, create Facebook ads for products and services, and generate headlines for potential articles a media site might want to write to expand its coverage of a certain topic. You can also use it as an editor, asking it to reword your email in a friendlier tone, or add humor to a paragraph. You can even use its services to create AI art.

Many of its suggestions and short ideas are pretty impressive, although I wouldn’t recommend relying on it to produce video scripts or longer pieces of written content.

I put its document-creation tools to the test by asking it to write a 200-word piece about why gamers should try the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset. I was able to provide the prompt, a few keywords to target, and a tone for the piece. The end result was generated quickly, but there were a few issues.

VR article suggestions from JasperChat

For one, JasperChat went well over the word count I asked for, giving me 436 words instead of 200. What’s more, the piece felt very waffly in its language, it lacked authority, and the bot often repeated itself – several of the paragraphs were literally copies of what it had already written, but with some words changed.

Another thing to note with JasperChat is that it’s a paid service. You can sign up for a five-day free trial, but after that you’ll need to pay monthly or yearly subscription to access its services. Pricing starts at $49 per month (around £40 / AU$70) for a plan with a 50,000 words a month limit. If you decide not to keep using JasperChat after the free trial period, remember to cancel, as you have to sign up with your payment details.

  • Try JasperChat out for yourself

WriteSonic and its ChatSonic functions are a lot like JasperChat. This productivity-focused bot can produce adverts and content ideas, and even produce content for you, as well as chat and answer questions you might have. It can produce AI art images too.

Its content generation process is a little different though. When I gave WriteSonic the same VR gaming prompt as Jasper, it started by providing several headline options. I picked the one I liked best, and then asked it to provide a short intro for the piece (again choosing from multiple options). WriteSonic then used my selected intro to provide outlines for how it would continue the article; I picked the one I wanted, tweaked it a bit, and away it went.

Making a Facebook Ad with ChatSonic

This process is slower and more involved than JasperChat, but the end result seemed better. It was still somewhat repetitive, but overall the piece was more readable – perhaps because I was able to edit the prompts and suggestions as I went through the creation process.

WriteSonic’s chat function is a little different too, as it offers several personalities, including Astrologer, Comedian, Travel Guide, and Accountant. While the answers did seem to differ a little between the personalities, it didn’t feel like I was chatting to different people, like with Character.AI. ChatSonic was also not the best at providing sources for its information, making it harder to trust.

WriteSonic is free to use and sign up for, but the free version is limited; you only get 2,500 free words a month, and you can’t access all the tools available to paid subscribers. You don’t need to provide payment information to try the free trial, though, and if you like the service you can upgrade to the cheapest paid plan, which allows you 19,000 words per month, for just $13 per month (around £11 / AU19).

The best AI chatbots: ChatGPT isn't the only one worth trying

screenshot-2024-03-27-at-4-28-37pm.png

Since the launch of ChatGPT , AI chatbots have been all of the rave because of their ability to do such a wide range of tasks which can help you with both your personal and work life. At your command, AI chatbots can write code , compose emails, draft a report,  generate art ,  write Excel formulas for you , and much more.

However, because ChatGPT  reached worldwide recognition , competitors were motivated to make their own versions, and, as a result, there are so many options on the market to choose from with different strengths, use cases, difficulty levels, and other nuances.

For the last year and a half, I have taken a deep dive into the world of AI, testing as many AI tools as I could get my hands on--including dozens of AI chatbots. Using my findings, as well as those of other ZDNET AI experts, I put together a list of the best AI chatbots and AI writers on the market.

The list details everything you need to know before choosing your next AI assistant, including what it's best for, pros, cons, cost, its large language model (LLM), and more. So whether you are entirely new to AI chatbots, or have used plenty before, this list should help you discover a new chatbot you haven't used before.

What is the best AI chatbot right now?

Thanks to its sourcing abilities, free internet access, and advanced LLM model, Microsoft Copilot is my first choice for the best AI chatbot. Keep reading to see how its features compare to others like ChatGPT, You.com, and more.

The best AI chatbots of 2024

Microsoft copilot, best ai chatbot overall.

  • Access to the internet
  • Links back to sources
  • Uses OpenAI's most advanced LLM
  • Grounded in Bing

Copilot f eatures:  OpenAI's most advanced LLM, GPT-4 Turbo | Has access to the internet | Works like a search engine with information on current events | Free

In February last year, Microsoft unveiled a new AI-improved Bing, now known as Copilot, which runs on GPT-4  Turbo, the newest version of OpenAI's language model systems. As of May 4 of last year, Copilot moved from limited preview to open preview, meaning that now everyone can access it for free.

Also: What is Copilot (formerly Bing Chat)? Here's everything you need to know

When I use a chatbot, I typically reach for Copilot because I found that it solved two major issues with ChatGPT, including access to current events and linking back to the sources it retrieved its answer for free. It is also the only way to access OpenAI's most advanced LLM--GPT-4 Turbo--for free.

Copilot is free to use and offers a series of other features that make it an attractive alternative, including multi-modal inputs, image generation within the chatbot, and a standalone app.

Best original AI chatbot

  • Writing skills
  • STEM knowledge
  • Conversational
  • Not always available
  • Not connected to the internet

ChatGPT features:  Uses OpenAI's GPT-3.5 or GPT-4 (if subscribed) | Can generate text, solve math problems, and code | Impressive conversation capabilities | Free to the public right now

ChatGPT is a conversational AI chatbot  by OpenAI that can produce text for you based on any prompt you input, generating emails, essays, poems, grocery lists, letters, and much more.

In addition to writing for you, ChatGPT can chat with you about simple or complex topics such as "What are colors?" or "What is the meaning of life?" If you want other technical assistance, ChatGPT is also proficient in STEM and can write and debug code , and even solve complex math equations.

Also:  How to use ChatGPT

ChatGPT was released November 2022, and because of its  massive success , it became the blueprint for many other chatbots to enter the scene, with many being found on the list now. Therefore, if you are interested in AI chatbots, you'll likely want to try the original that began the craze -- ChatGPT.

The downsides of the chatbot include that it is sometimes at capacity due to its immense popularity, doesn't have access to the internet, and has a knowledge cutoff.

I still reach for ChatGPT as, despite its limitations, it is an incredibly capable chatbot. However, when I do, I make sure that my queries do not rely on the most recent information to be accurate. For example, some good use cases to use ChatGPT for are brainstorming text or coding.

Anthrophic's Claude

Best ai chatbot for summarizing documents.

  • Upload document support
  • Chat controls
  • Light and dark mode
  • Unclear usage cap
  • Knowledge cutoff

Claude features:   Powered by Claude 3 model family | Accepts document uploads | Trained with information up to early 2023 |  Free

Anthropic launched its first AI assistant, Claude, in February 2023, and in less than a year, it has secured a spot as one of the best chatbots in the space. Like the other leading competitors, Anthropic can conversationally answer prompts with anything you need assistance with, including coding, math, writing, research, and more.

Also: 4 things Claude AI can do that ChatGPT can't

Personally, the biggest advantage of this chatbot is that it can accept document uploads to help read, analyze, and summarize uploaded files. To upload a file, all I had to do was click on the paper clip icon next to the text box and click on the document I wanted to upload. Then, I was able to conversationally ask for the help I wanted with the document, including document summaries or clarifications on specific topics found within the document.

Also: This free tool from Anthropic helps you create better prompts for your AI chatbot

Claude is in free open beta, and, as a result, has context window and daily message limits which can vary based on demand, so if you are looking to use the chatbot regularly, upgrading to Claude Pro may be a better option, as it offers at least five times the usage limits compared to the free version for $20 a month.

Perplexity.ai

The best ai chatbot for prompt ideation.

  • Links to sources
  • Access to internet
  • Paid subscription required for GPT-4 access
  • some irrelevant suggestions

Perplexity AI features: OpenAI GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 for subscribers | Has access to the internet and current events | Provides prompt suggestions to get chats started | Free

Perplexity AI is a free AI chatbot that is connected to the internet, provides sources, and has a very enjoyable UI. As soon as you visit the site , using the chatbot is straightforward. All you have to do is type your prompt into the "ask anything" box to get started. The first time I ever visited this chatbot, I was able to get started within seconds.

On top of the text box, the chatbot states, "Where knowledge begins," and the title could not be more fitting.

Also: ChatGPT vs. Microsoft Copilot vs. Gemini: Which is the best AI chatbot?

As soon as you click on the textbox, it has a series of suggested prompts which are all mostly rooted in news. It also has suggested prompts underneath the box on a variety of evergreen topics. All you have to do is click on any of the suggestions to learn more about the topic and chat about it. Additionally, Perplexity provides related topic questions you can click on to keep the conversation going.

Because of the extensive prompts it gives users to try, this is a great chatbot for taking deep dives into topics that you wouldn't have necessarily thought of before, encouraging discovery and experimentation. I personally deep dove into a couple of random topics myself, including the history of birthday cakes, and I enjoyed every second of it.

Other perks include that there is an app for both iOS and Android, allowing you to also tinker with the chatbot while you're on the go, footnotes are provided after every answer with sources you can visit and the answers nearly always include photos and graphics.

Best AI chatbot for businesses and marketers

  • 50 different writing templates
  • Copyediting features
  • Plagiarism checker
  • Need a subscription to try

Jasper features:  Uses different LLMs, including GPT-4 | Summarizes texts and generates paragraphs and product descriptions | Checks for plagiarism and grammar | Starts at $39 per month with an annual subscription

Jasper is a tool exclusively meant for users who are looking to incorporate an AI chatbot into their workflow because there is no free plan, and you can't access the chatbot otherwise. For example, when I tried using it myself, I was met with dead ends unless I subscribed. The least expensive option, the Creator plan, is geared towards freelancers and solo-preneurs and is $49 a month. However, if you rely on an AI chatbot to generate copy for your business, the investment may be worth it.

Also: ChatGPT vs. Copilot: Which AI chatbot is better for you?

With Jasper, you can input a prompt for what you want to be written, and it will write it for you, just like ChatGPT would. The major difference with Jasper is that it has an extensive amount of tools to produce better copy. Jasper can check for grammar and plagiarism and write in over 50 different templates, including blog posts, Twitter threads, video scripts, and more. It also offers SEO insights and can even remember your brand voice, facilitating the creation of copy.

Whether you are an individual, small team, or larger business looking into optimizing your workflow, before you take the plunge, you can access a trial or demo.

Best AI chatbot that functions as a search engine

  • Readily available
  • Source Citing
  • Some answers stronger than others
  • Subscription required for GPT-4 access

You.com features: GPT-4 with subscription | Lists sources for the text it generates | Unlike most other Chatbots, uses Google sources | Free

You.com (previously known as YouChat) is an AI assistant that functions similarly to the way a search engine would. Like Google, you can enter any question, or topic you'd like to learn information on, and immediately be met with real-time web results, in addition to a conversational response.

For example, when I asked, "Can you share some pictures of adorable dog breeds?" the chatbot provided six different web links, as well as the seven different pictures it pulled from the web, a conversational answer and related news, as seen in the photo.

The chatbot can also provide technical assistance, with answers to anything you input, including math, coding, translating, and writing prompts. A huge pro for this chatbot is that, because it lacks popularity, you can hop on at any time and ask away.

Chatsonic by Writesonic

Best ai chatbot for article writers.

  • Variety of use cases
  • Need to sign-in
  • A bit of a lag

Chatsonic features:   Powered by GPT-3.5. or GPT-4 depending on subscription | Aware of current events, whereas ChatGPT is trained up to 2021 | Extensive feature suite, including voice dictation and image generation | Starts at $12 per month

Chatsonic is a dependable AI chatbot, with a function as an AI writing tool. It functions much like ChatGPT, allowing users to input prompts for assistance on a variety of tasks. However, it includes the ability to web search, generate images, and access PDF assistance, which ChatGPT lacks.

The Writesonic platform offers tools that are specifically meant to help generate stories, including Instant Article Writer, which generates an article from a single click; Article Rewriter, which rephrases existing content; and Article Writer 5, which generates articles using ranking competitors.

Other tools that facilitate the creation of articles include SEO Checker and Optimizer, AI Editor, Content Rephraser, Paragraph Writer, and more. There is a free version, which gets you access to some of the features; however, there is a 50 generations per day limit. The monthly cost starts at $12 per month but goes all the way up to $250 per month depending on the number of words and amount of users needed.

Gemini (formerly Google Bard)

Best ai chatbot if you're a loyal google user.

  • Access to Google
  • Good text editing skills
  • Can't help much with code

Gemini features:  Powered by a finetuned version of Gemini Pro | Includes a "Google it" feature | Generates clear text and images quickly | Free

Gemini is Google's conversational AI chatbot that functions the most similarly to Copilot, sourcing its answers from the web, providing footnotes, and even generating images within its chatbot. Since its initial release in March 2023, the chatbot has undergone several upgrades, with the latest version being the most optimized it has ever been.

Also: What is Google's Gemini AI tool (formerly Bard)? Everything you need to know

The highlight of this chatbot is that it is rooted in Google technology, search engines, and applications, and if you are a loyal Google user, you will feel familiar with the chatbot's UI and its offerings. For example, unlike most of the chatbots on this list, Google does not use an LLM in the GPT series but instead uses a model made by Google.

"Gemini is slowly becoming a full Google experience thanks to Extensions folding the wide range of Google applications into Gemini," said ZDNET writer Maria Diaz when reviewing the chatbot. "Gemini users can add extensions for Google Workspace, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Flights, and Google Hotels, giving them a more personalized and extensive experience."

If you subscribe to Google's new 'AI Premium Plan,' you not only get access to the most advanced Google models in Gemini, such as Ultra 1.0, but you also get access to Gemini for Workspace, previously known as  Duet AI,  which infuses Google's AI assistance throughout its productivity apps, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet.

Socratic by Google

Best ai chatbot for kids and students.

  • Educational
  • Easy to use
  • Doesn't write text

Socratic features:  From Google | Type in any question to generate a response | Includes fun graphics | Supports scanning worksheets to get a specially curated answer | Free

If you want your child to also take advantage of AI to lighten their workload, but still have some limits, Socratic is for you. With Socratic, children can type in any question they may have about what they are learning in school, and Socratic will generate a conversational, human-like response with fun, unique graphics to help break down the concept.

"It's a powerful studying tool that could help students double-check their homework, or get across the last hurdle if a question or formula just isn't making sense. And using the app is as easy as using  Snapchat  or talking to Siri," said former ZDNET contributor Jason Cipriani, when reviewing the app.

The app, available on the App Store and the Google App Store, also has a feature that lets your kid scan their worksheet to get a specially curated answer. The app does have some limitations; for example, it will not just write an essay or story when prompted. However, this could be a positive thing because it curbs your child's temptation to get a chatbot, like ChatGPT, to write their essay for them.

As seen by the list above, plenty of great chatbot options are on the market. However, if you are on the search for a chatbot that serves your use case specifically, you can always build an entirely customizable new one. HuggingChat is an open-source chatbot developed by Hugging Face that can be used as a regular chatbot or customized for your needs.

As ZDNET's David Gewirtz unpacked in his hands-on article , you may not want to depend on HuggingChat as your go-to primary chatbot. However, it is a good interface to build your own chatbot on. As Gewirtz said himself: "If you want something that you control, you can use HuggingChat to build a chatbot where you have visibility into every aspect of its functioning. You can choose to make that chatbot available online to other users and provide transparency to all users."

What is the best AI chatbot?

The best overall AI chatbot is Copilot due to its exceptional performance, versatility, and free availability. It uses OpenAI's cutting-edge GPT-4 language model, making it highly proficient in various language tasks, including writing, summarization, translation, and conversation. Moreover, it works like a search engine with information on current events.

Another advantage of Copilot is its availability to the public at no cost. Despite its immense popularity, Copilot remains free, making it an incredible resource for students, writers, and professionals who need a reliable and free AI chatbot.

Although there are occasional capacity blocks, OpenAI is working on releasing a professional version of ChatGPT that will be quicker and always accessible at a monthly cost.

Which AI chatbot is right for you?

While Copliot is my personal favorite, your use case may be hyper-specific or have certain demands. If you need a constant, reliable AI chatbot, other alternatives might be better suited for you. If you just want an AI chatbot that produces clean, reliable, business-ready copy, for example, then Jasper is for you. If you want to play around with an AI chatbot that isn't always at capacity, YouChat might be the best option.

Lastly, if there is a child in your life, Socratic might be worth checking out. See our breakdown below:

Factors to consider when choosing a chatbot

Since there are so many chatbots on the market, picking the right one can get confusing. Some factors to consider to help narrow down those options are:

  • Large Language Model (LLM)
  • Knowledge cutoff
  • Access to the internet
  • Linking to sources
  • Best use cases

How did I choose these AI chatbots?

In order to curate the list of best AI chatbots and AI writers, I looked at the capabilities of each individual program including the individual uses each program would excel at. As an AI reporter, I was also sure to test each one myself. Other factors I looked at were reliability, availability, and cost.

  • Individual use case: AI chatbots have many use cases, often acting as a tool for productivity and easier workflow. I included a variety that can serve as ideation, education, and content creation tools.
  • Reliability: I kept information accuracy a priority during my testing.
  • Availability : ChatGPT is popular, but not always available. I selected alternatives that don't have a user limit and are available at all times.
  • Cost: Many of these AI programs are free, but some require monthly memberships. I included a mix of both, keeping budget-friendliness in mind.

What is an AI chatbot?

An AI chatbot (also called AI writer) refers to a type of artificial intelligence-powered program that is capable of generating written content from a user's input prompt. AI chatbots are capable of writing anything from a rap song to an essay upon a user's request. The extent of what each chatbot is specifically able to write about depends on its individual capabilities including whether it is connected to a search engine or not.

How do AI chatbots work?

AI chatbots use language models to train the AI to produce human-like responses. Some are connected to the web and that is how they have up-to-date information, while others depend solely on the information they are trained with.

How much do AI chatbots cost?

AI chatbot programs vary in cost with some being entirely free and others costing as much as $600 a month. Many like ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and YouChat are entirely free to use.

What is the difference between an AI chatbot and an AI writer?

The main difference between an AI chatbot and an AI writer is the type of output they generate and their primary function.

In the past, an AI writer was used specifically to generate written content, such as articles, stories, or poetry, based on a given prompt or input. An AI writer's output is in the form of written text that mimics human-like language and structure. On the other hand, an AI chatbot is designed to conduct real-time conversations with users in text or voice-based interactions. The primary function of an AI chatbot is to answer questions, provide recommendations, or even perform simple tasks, and its output is in the form of text-based conversations.

While the terms AI chatbot and AI writer are now used interchangeably by some, the original distinction was that an AI writer was used for generating written content, while an AI chatbot was used for conversational purposes. However, with the introduction of more advanced AI technology, such as ChatGPT, the line between the two has become increasingly blurred. Some AI chatbots are now capable of generating text-based responses that mimic human-like language and structure, similar to an AI writer.

How to Invest in OpenAI's ChatGPT (Updated 2024)

homework ai bot

April 08, 2024 — 04:30 pm EDT

Written by Melissa Pistilli for Investing News Network  ->

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is one of the latest technological breakthroughs in the artificial intelligence (AI) space. But is there a good investment case for a technology that has become so controversial?

This emerging technology is representative of a niche subsector of the AI industry known as generative AI — systems that can generate text, images or sounds in response to prompts given by users.

Precedence Research expects the global AI market to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19 percent to reach US$2.57 trillion by 2032. Just how much of an impact OpenAI’s ChatGPT will have on this space is hard to predict, but S&P Global suggested in December 2023 that the total market revenue of generative AI as a whole will see a CAGR of 57.9 percent through 2028, increasing from US$3.7 billion last year to US$36.36 billion in 2028.

“The key trend last year was the rise of generative AI, and 2023 will go down as one of the most exciting years for AI yet! With the launch of ChatGPT late in 2022, the true scale of its disruptive potential was more realized across the world in 2023,” said Naseem Husain , senior vice president and exchange-traded fund (ETF) strategist at Horizons ETFs. “Its success has sparked a wave of generative and chat AI models, from Midjourney to Grok.”

Of course, OpenAi has also generated a lot of controversy, such as fears over job destruction and targeted disinformation campaigns . And let’s not forget the odd and abrupt, however brief, ousting of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman .

Many lawsuits have emerged as well. Multiple news outlets , including the the New York Times , have launched copyright lawsuits against OpenAI, and some of the plaintiffs are also seeking damages from the private tech firm’s very public partner Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT ). Additionally, the Authors Guild, which represents a group of prominent authors , launched a class-action lawsuit against OpenAI that is calling for a licensing system that would allow authors to opt out of having their books used to train AI, and would require AI companies to pay for the material they do use.

With all of that said, there's still a lot of excitement surrounding generative AI technology. Many investors are wondering if it's possible to invest in OpenAI's ChatGPT, and if there are other ways to invest in generative AI. Here the Investing News Network (INN) answers those questions and more, shedding light on this new landscape.

What is OpenAI's ChatGPT?

Created by San Francisco-based tech lab OpenAI, ChatGPT is a generative AI software application that uses a machine learning technique called reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) to emulate human-written conversations based on a large range of user prompts. This kind of software is better known as an AI chatbot.

ChatGPT learns language by training on texts gleaned from across the internet, including online encyclopedias, books, academic journals, news sites and blogs. Based on this training, the AI chatbot generates text by making predictions about which words (or tokens) can be strung together to produce the most suitable response.

More than a million people engaged with ChatGPT within the first week of its launch for free public testing on November 30, 2022. Many were in awe of the chatbot’s seemingly natural language capabilities, not only in terms of understanding questions, but also because of its human-like responses. Users felt as if they were having a conversation with a human.

Besides being an excellent conversation partner, ChatGPT can write engaging short stories , develop catchy marketing materials, solve complicated math problems and even create code in various programming languages.

Based on this success, OpenAI has created a more powerful version of the ChatGPT system called GPT-4 , which was released in March 2023. It is currently only available to paid ChatGPT subscribers and Microsoft Copilot users .

This iteration of ChatGPT can accept visual inputs , is much more precise and can display a higher level of expertise in various subjects. Because of this, GPT-4 can describe images in vivid detail and ace standardized tests.

Unlike its predecessor, GPT-4 doesn't have any time limits on what information it can access; however, AI researcher and professor Dr. Oren Etzioni has said that the chatbot is still terrible at discussing the future and generating new ideas. It also hasn't lost its tendency to deliver incorrect information with too high a degree of confidence.

What is Elon Musk's relationship to OpenAI?

Elon Musk behind the word

DIA TV / Shutterstock

OpenAI was founded in 2015 by Altman, its current CEO, as well as Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA ) Elon Musk and other big-name investors, such as venture capitalist Peter Thiel and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. Musk left his position on OpenAI's board of directors in 2018 to focus on Tesla and its pursuit of autonomous vehicle technology.

A few days after ChatGPT became available for public testing, Musk took to X , formerly known as Twitter, to say, “ChatGPT is scary good. We are not far from dangerously strong AI.” That same day, he announced that X had shut the door on OpenAI’s access to its database so it could no longer use it for RLHF training.

His reason: “OpenAI was started as open-source & non-profit. Neither are still true.”

Furthering his feud with OpenAI, Musk filed a lawsuit against the company in March 2024 for an alleged breach of contract. The crux of his complaint was that OpenAI has broken the "founding agreement" made between the founders (Altman, Greg Brockman and himself) that the company would remain a non-profit. Altman and OpenAI have denied there was such an agreement and that Musk was keen on an eventual for-profit structure.

Is ChatGPT revolutionary or hype?

Is ChatGPT a revolutionary technology or just another hyped-up tech fad that will flop, much in the way of Google Glass or the Segway ? It may be too early to tell, but as with any new technology, there are plenty of wrinkles to iron out.

One of the most challenging bugs to fix before ChatGPT can be deployed more widely is the chatbot’s propensity to respond with “plausible-sounding but incorrect or nonsensical answers," admits OpenAI .

Remember, its selection of which words to string together are actually predictions — not as fallible as mere guesses, but still fallible. Even the latest 4.0 version is “ still is not fully reliable (it “hallucinates” facts and makes reasoning errors),” says the company, which emphasizes that users should exercise caution when employing the technology.

Indeed, ChatGPT's failings can have dangerous real-life consequences. Among other negative applications, the tech can be used to spread misinformation, carry out phishing email scams or write malicious code. What’s more, the AI-based technology is prone to racial and gender-based biases. Not only has this language learning model contributed to the human-like quality of its responses, but it has also picked up on some of humanity’s shortcomings.

“ChatGPT was trained on the collective writing of humans across the world, past and present. This means that the same biases that exist in the data, can also appear in the model,” explains Garling Wu , staff writer for online technology publication MUO, in a September 2023 article. “In fact, users have shown how ChatGPT can give produce some terrible answers, some, for example, that discriminate against women. But that's just the tip of the iceberg; it can produce answers that are extremely harmful to a range of minority groups.”

On the flip side, an August 2023 study by the University of East Anglia identified a left-wing bias in ChatGPT. Researchers at the school said their work shows that ChatGPT "favors Democrats in the U.S., the Labour Party in the U.K., and president Lula da Silva of the Workers’ Party in Brazil," according to Forbes.

There’s also the fear among teachers that the technology is leading to an unwelcome rise in academic dishonesty, with students using ChatGPT to write essays or complete their science homework.

“Teachers and school administrators have been scrambling to catch students using the tool to cheat, and they are fretting about the havoc ChatGPT could wreak on their lesson plans,” writes New York Times tech columnist Kevin Roose .

Despite these concerns, we’re likely to see new iterations of ChatGPT — hopefully without the aforementioned bugs — as OpenAI has the backing of tech giant Microsoft.

Why is Microsoft investing in OpenAI?

Since 2019, Microsoft has invested at least US$3 billion in OpenAI to help the small tech firm create its ultra-powerful AI chatbot, as reported by New York Times technology correspondents Cade Metz and Karen Weise.

Microsoft announced in mid-January 2023 that as part of the third phase of its partnership with OpenAI, it will make "a multiyear, multibillion dollar investment." Although the company hasn't disclosed the total amount of its latest spend, reports at the time indicated that US$10 billion is on the table . According to a February article from Reuters , OpenAI was recently valued at US$80 billion, meaning Microsoft's US$10 billion move would be huge. However, as of late 2023 there were rumors that OpenAI has only received a fraction of that purported investment.

How could Microsoft benefit from its investment? It seems the tech giant is hopeful advancements in generative AI may increase revenues for its Azure cloud computing business, as OpenAI officially licensed its technologies to Microsoft in 2020. Indeed, Pitchbook has described the deal as an “ unprecedented milestone ” for generative AI technology.

The strength of Microsoft’s confidence in OpenAI’s Altman was definitely on display in late November, when it quickly moved him to the payroll of its advanced AI research team after he was fired from OpenAI . Barely a week passed before Altman was back at the helm of OpenAI with major board changes, including the addition of Dee Templeton , Microsoft's vice president of technology and research partnerships and operations, as a non-voting observer.

What's the future of OpenAI and ChatGPT?

The ChatGPT 3.5 platform is free to use, and can be accessed via the web. Those with an iPhone or iPad can also use ChatGPT through an app , and an Android version launched in July 2023 . OpenAI also launched a paid subscription, ChatGPT Plus for business use , in August 2023. ChatGPT Plus gives users access to the newest iteration, GPT-4.

In addition to Microsoft's use of the ChatGPT technology as part of Copilot, other companies are working with OpenAI to incorporate the technology into their platforms, including Canva, Duolingo (NASDAQ: DUOL ), Intercom, Salesforce (NYSE: CRM ), Scale, Stripe, and Upwork (NASDAQ: UPWK ).

As uptake increases, generative AI technology is replacing humans in the workplace, and will likely continue doing so in a number of fields, from content creation and customer service to transcription and translation services, and even in graphic design and paralegal fields. However, humans are hitting back, as evidenced by recent lawsuits launched against OpenAI and Microsoft. As mentioned, a growing group of prominent authors is suing the creator of ChatGPT and its financial backer for infringing on their copyright by using their books without permission to train the language models behind ChatGPT and other AI-based software.

The New York Times has also taken a stand by taking OpenAI and Microsoft to Manhattan Federal Court.

"Defendants seek to free-ride on the Times's massive investment in its journalism by using it to build substitutive products without permission or payment," states the complaint . "There is nothing 'transformative' about using the Times's content without payment to create products that substitute for the Times and steal audiences away from it."

What about the long-term goals for OpenAI and ChatGPT? Metz of the New York Times believes the end game is “artificial general intelligence, or AGI — a machine that can do anything the human brain can do.”

In keeping with this end goal, OpenAI made a major move by acquiring an AI creative firm with a deep talent bench, Global Illumination , in mid-August 2023. "Global Illumination is a company that has been leveraging AI to build creative tools, infrastructure, and digital experiences," states OpenAI on its website .

"The team previously designed and built products early on at Instagram and Facebook and have also made significant contributions at YouTube, Google, Pixar, Riot Games, and other notable companies."

In November 2023, OpenAI decided to give customers without coding skills the ability to create customized versions of its chatbot and access to large data sets for training. “OpenAI wants people to start innovating using the chatbots and creating special chatbots,” Hod Lipson, an engineering and data science professor at Columbia University, told CNBC .

Chatbot creators will eventually have the ability to share their custom chatbots through OpenAI’s GPT Store. “They’re really trying to create a marketplace, which will allow companies and people to innovate and play around with this incredible form of AI that they’ve just unleashed,” Lipson added.

What is Google's Bard AI?

Google logo beside the words

Carl DMaster / Shutterstock

While ChatGPT has been generating major buzz, it's definitely not the only chatbot out there.

Notably, Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL ) subsidiary Google launched its answer to ChatGPT in March 2023. Known as Bard AI , the chatbot is built on Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Applications (or LaMDA). Google CEO Sundar Pichai has described Bard as an “experimental conversational AI service … (that) seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models.”

As with ChatGPT, users can key in a query, request or prompt and Bard will provide a human-like response. One way in which Bard may have had a leg up on the original ChatGPT is that the latter could only use data up to 2021, while the former can access up-to-date information online; this is less relevant now that GPT-4 no longer has this limitation.

However, Bard's ability to access current data hasn’t spared it from ChatGPT’s biggest folly: confidently stating misinformation as fact. The Verge reported that when asked about new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope, Google’s Bard “made a factual error in its very first demo.”

In early in 2024, Google launched the latest iteration of its Bard Advanced AI chatbot with a new name, Gemini AI. The new version is powered by Google's Gemini Ultra large language model.

So, can you invest in OpenAI itself? The company is not currently a publicly traded stock; however, if Microsoft does take a large position in the company, investors will be able to gain indirect exposure to OpenAI by purchasing Microsoft shares.

For those seeking direct exposure, be on the lookout for news of an initial public offering (IPO). As of late-March 2024, there are no plans for an OpenAI IPO on the horizon.

How is OpenAI funded?

OpenAI raised US$11.3 billion over six funding rounds from 2016 to January 2024.

The three top investors are technology investment firm Thrive Capital, venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and revolutionary technology investment firm Founders Fund.

What is the market value of ChatGPT/OpenAI?

OpenAI has a market valuation of US$80 billion as of February 2024. The company’s 2023 revenue had reached US$2 billion mark in December 2023 to join the ranks of Google and Meta (NASDAQ: META ).

Does ChatGPT use Nvidia chips?

ChatGPT’s distributed computing infrastructure depends upon powerful servers with multiple graphics processing units (GPUs). High-performance Nvidia GPU chips are preferred for this application as they also provide excellent Compute Unified Device Architecture support.

Will ChatGPT cause another GPU shortage?

Most likely not. The type of GPUs used for machine learning models like ChatGPT are different from other types of GPUs, including those used to power gaming systems or crypto mining.

Can ChatGPT make stock predictions?

A University of Florida study recently highlighted the potential for advanced language models such as ChatGPT to accurately predict movements in the stock market using sentiment analysis. During the course of the study, ChatGPT outperformed traditional sentiment analysis methods, and the finance professors conducting the research concluded that “incorporating advanced language models into the investment decision-making process can yield more accurate predictions and enhance the performance of quantitative trading strategies.”

When to expect ChatGPT 5?

OpenAI filed a trademark application for ChatGPT-5 in mid-July 2023, which hinted that the next iteration of the generative AI technology is currently under development. There were rumours the company planned to complete training for ChatGPT-5 by the end of 2023, which did not materialize. Its anyone's guess when we may see its launch, but most likely not before Q3 2024 .

While PC Guide notes that OpenAI did release GPT-4V and GPT-4 Turbo in Q4 2023, there is little sign that ChatGPT-5 is close to market. However, the publication did share that, "In a March 2024 interview on the Lex Fridman podcast, Sam Altman teased an “ amazing new model this year ” but wouldn’t commit to it being called GPT 5 (or anything else)".
