Hertz CEO Kathryn Marinello with CFO Jamere Jackson and other members of the executive team in 2017

Top 40 Most Popular Case Studies of 2021

Two cases about Hertz claimed top spots in 2021's Top 40 Most Popular Case Studies

Two cases on the uses of debt and equity at Hertz claimed top spots in the CRDT’s (Case Research and Development Team) 2021 top 40 review of cases.

Hertz (A) took the top spot. The case details the financial structure of the rental car company through the end of 2019. Hertz (B), which ranked third in CRDT’s list, describes the company’s struggles during the early part of the COVID pandemic and its eventual need to enter Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The success of the Hertz cases was unprecedented for the top 40 list. Usually, cases take a number of years to gain popularity, but the Hertz cases claimed top spots in their first year of release. Hertz (A) also became the first ‘cooked’ case to top the annual review, as all of the other winners had been web-based ‘raw’ cases.

Besides introducing students to the complicated financing required to maintain an enormous fleet of cars, the Hertz cases also expanded the diversity of case protagonists. Kathyrn Marinello was the CEO of Hertz during this period and the CFO, Jamere Jackson is black.

Sandwiched between the two Hertz cases, Coffee 2016, a perennial best seller, finished second. “Glory, Glory, Man United!” a case about an English football team’s IPO made a surprise move to number four.  Cases on search fund boards, the future of malls,  Norway’s Sovereign Wealth fund, Prodigy Finance, the Mayo Clinic, and Cadbury rounded out the top ten.

Other year-end data for 2021 showed:

  • Online “raw” case usage remained steady as compared to 2020 with over 35K users from 170 countries and all 50 U.S. states interacting with 196 cases.
  • Fifty four percent of raw case users came from outside the U.S..
  • The Yale School of Management (SOM) case study directory pages received over 160K page views from 177 countries with approximately a third originating in India followed by the U.S. and the Philippines.
  • Twenty-six of the cases in the list are raw cases.
  • A third of the cases feature a woman protagonist.
  • Orders for Yale SOM case studies increased by almost 50% compared to 2020.
  • The top 40 cases were supervised by 19 different Yale SOM faculty members, several supervising multiple cases.

CRDT compiled the Top 40 list by combining data from its case store, Google Analytics, and other measures of interest and adoption.

All of this year’s Top 40 cases are available for purchase from the Yale Management Media store .

And the Top 40 cases studies of 2021 are:

How SolarWinds Responded to the 2020 SUNBURST Cyberattack

In December of 2020, SolarWinds learned that they had fallen victim to hackers. Unknown actors had inserted malware called SUNBURST into a software update, potentially granting hackers access to thousands of its customers’ data, including government agencies across the globe and the US military. General Counsel Jason Bliss needed to orchestrate the company’s response without knowing how many of its 300,000 customers had been affected, or how severely. What’s more, the existing CEO was scheduled to step down and incoming CEO Sudhakar Ramakrishna had yet to come on board. Bliss needed to immediately communicate the company’s action plan with customers and the media. In this episode of Cold Call, Professor Frank Nagle discusses SolarWinds’ response to this supply chain attack in the case, “SolarWinds Confronts SUNBURST.”

Can Remote Surgeries Digitally Transform Operating Rooms?

Launched in 2016, Proximie was a platform that enabled clinicians, proctors, and medical device company personnel to be virtually present in operating rooms, where they would use mixed reality and digital audio and visual tools to communicate with, mentor, assist, and observe those performing medical procedures. The goal was to improve patient outcomes. The company had grown quickly, and its technology had been used in tens of thousands of procedures in more than 50 countries and 500 hospitals. It had raised close to $50 million in equity financing and was now entering strategic partnerships to broaden its reach. Nadine Hachach-Haram, founder and CEO of Proximie, aspired for Proximie to become a platform that powered every operating room in the world, but she had to carefully consider the company’s partnership and data strategies in order to scale. What approach would position the company best for the next stage of growth? Harvard Business School associate professor Ariel Stern discusses creating value in health care through a digital transformation of operating rooms in her case, “Proximie: Using XR Technology to Create Borderless Operating Rooms.”

Ryan Serhant: How to Manage Your Time for Happiness

Real estate entrepreneur, television star, husband, and father Ryan Serhant is incredibly busy and successful. He starts his days at 4:00 am and often doesn’t end them until 11:00 pm. But, it wasn’t always like that. In 2020, just a few months after the US began to shut down in order to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, Serhant had time to reflect on his career as a real estate broker in New York City, wondering if the period of selling real estate at record highs was over. He considered whether he should stay at his current real estate brokerage or launch his own brokerage during a pandemic? Each option had very different implications for his time and flexibility. Professor Ashley Whillans and her co-author Hawken Lord (MBA 2023) discuss Serhant’s time management techniques and consider the lessons we can all learn about making time our most valuable commodity in the case, “Ryan Serhant: Time Management for Repeatable Success.”

Elon Musk’s Twitter Takeover: Lessons in Strategic Change

In late October 2022, Elon Musk officially took Twitter private and became the company’s majority shareholder, finally ending a months-long acquisition saga. Musk needed to take decisive steps to succeed against the major opposition to his leadership from both inside and outside the company. Twitter employees circulated an open letter protesting expected layoffs, advertising agencies advised their clients to pause spending on Twitter, and EU officials considered a broader Twitter ban. What short-term actions should Musk take to stabilize the situation, and how should he approach long-term strategy to turn around Twitter? CMAC Certification

A Certification for Health Delivery System Case Management and Transitions of Care Professionals.

The ACM Certification was created by ACMA in 2005, and is designed specifically for health delivery system and transitions of care (TOC) case management professionals. It is one program with two different credentials: ACM-RN and ACM-SW.

management case study dates

  • Specifically addresses Case Management in health delivery system settings
  • Tests core Case Management knowledge that is shared by Nurse and Social Work Case Managers, as well as competency in the individual skills of each professional background
  • Utilizes clinical simulation testing methodology to test “competency beyond knowledge” – testing critical thinking skills and the ability to use knowledge in practical situations.

The exam consists of two components. The first contains core case management questions that test the knowledge skills and abilities of registered nurse or social work Case Managers working in a hospital/health system. The second component is comprised of discipline specific clinical simulations. This discipline specific testing method reflects ACMA’s respect for the different roles practiced by registered nurse and social work case managers. Those who meet eligibility requirements and achieve the required passing scores will be awarded the designation of Accredited Case Manager (ACM-RN or ACM-SW) credential.

ACMA Position Statement

Nurses and Social Workers with 36 months of health delivery system experience should have their Accredited Case Manager credential, ACM, to practice Health Delivery System Case Management. ACM exam eligibility requires a minimum of twelve (12) months of Health System Case Management experience.

Approved on December 2, 2016

Who can take the ACM Certification examination?

The ACM Certification examination is available to registered nurses and social workers. However, there are specific eligibility requirements necessary to take the examination. These requirements include a blend of education, paid work experience* and professional practice:

  • A Registered Nurse (RN) applicant must possess a valid and current nursing license that is in good standing. RN applicants must provide a nursing license number, state and expiration date.
  • Social Worker (SW) applicants must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited school of social work OR a valid social work license that is in good standing. SW applicants must provide the degree, name of school and year of completion OR a current social work license number, state and expiration date.
  • All applicants must have at least 2,080 hours of supervised paid work experience employed as a case manager, or in a role that falls within the Case Management Functions and Expectations of a case manager, by a Health Delivery System. **Candidates with less than two (2) years of experience must provide supervisor contact information and an attestation that they have at least one (1) year of supervised case management experience on the ACM application. The NBCM recognizes that because case management experience, supervision and education vary, some case managers may be qualified to sit for the exam after only one (1) year of experience.

When Can I Take the ACM Certification?

Candidates have two test scheduling options:

Candidates may submit their application at any time. All applications must be accompanied by full payment of application fees to be considered complete and ready for approval. Upon receipt of approval, candidates will receive a scheduling notice from ACM's testing partner and will be directed to schedule their examination through the testing partner's online portal, or by contacting the testing partner by phone.

Failure of a candidate to schedule or take their examination within their assigned testing period will result in the forfeiture of all fees. Expedited (Apply Now, Schedule Now) testing payment is not a guarantee that you can schedule for a specific date. There are no refunds of the expedited testing premium.

ACM Certification Statistics

  • Over 7,000 health delivery system case managers have earned the ACM Credential (as of November 2020)
  • 98% of ACM Credentialed professional feel the certification is applicable to their case management practice.
  • 47% of ACM Credentialed professionals indicate that the certification has increased their professional standing with their direct supervisor, coworkers, and increased their professional knowledge and competency.
  • 65% of case management departments report that case management certification is influential in hiring decisions, and over half prefer the ACM credential.
  • 90% of ACM Credentialed professionals would recommend the certification to other case managers.
  • A summary of ACM Certification Activities is available from the ACMA National Office upon request.

What Do ACM Credentialed Professionals Say?

"ACM Certification is well-recognized and respected within the healthcare and transitions of care systems. That is why I prepared for and obtained my certification. As a manager in the oldest public hospital in Arizona, it verifies my competence and expertise to my employers, peers and patients. It demonstrates by commitment to the case management field."

- Nicole Mielke, LMSW, ACM-SW

“I achieved my ACM Certification after 30 years of work in case management. Although I knew I had the knowledge, I didn’t have the unquestionable creditability - the credibility that comes with having your knowledge, comprehension and ability to apply tested and validated. That’s sweet!"

- Ettie Lande, RN, BSN, ACM-RN, CMAC

CIMA Management Case Study (MCS) Overview

I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that there’s a lot to do in preparation for your CIMA Management case study exam.

As you will have seen from an earlier blog post I wrote, your approach needs to involve:

  • Careful analysis of the pre seen material
  • Familiarity with what is going on in that industry in the real world
  • Thorough revision of your technical knowledge from the three objective test papers
  • A good understanding of your “role” in the fictitious organisation
  • Practicing the many elements of exam technique needed to pass

Now you’re probably pretty scared of awaits you in the CIMA Management case study, right?

And you’re wondering: is it even possible to be fully prepared in such a short space of time?

But don’t worry, I’ve broken down what you need to do in a step-by-step, week-by-week, structure for you to follow.

It’s based on the same blueprint that CIMA case study experts Astranti use on their CIMA MCS Exam Course .

And this schedule has been proven to work over and over again by students who have passed their CIMA Management case study exam, despite working full time and having other commitments taking up their time.

Now it won’t be easy.  Preparing for CIMA exams never is.

But if you follow the plan below over the coming weeks it will set you up for success…AND don’t worry if you feel you are falling behind.   You will soon catch up if you are determined to pass.

Activity #1: CIMA Management Case Study Pre Seen Analysis

In particular you are looking to find out:

  • A clear picture of what the organisation does and the industry it operates in
  • How the business is performing and where it is currently heading
  • The potential threats and opportunities for the business
  • Who the stakeholders are and how you would advise they be managed
  • A list of the key issues facing the organisation that are likely to come up in your exam

Activity #1: Start Revising Theory from Papers E2, P2 and F2 (and how to apply it)

Your CIMA Management case study exam is not just testing your technical knowledge but also your application of this knowledge.

“Application” basically means knowing when and how to use a theoretical model appropriately in your exam so that you can provide the best advice possible to your boss in the case.

Here you’ll want to learn:

  • Which theories are most applicable to the CIMA Management case study exam
  • The underlying concepts of those theories so you can explain them
  • The pros and cons of using them in different business scenarios
  • What the examiner is really after when it comes to earning marks for technical skills
  • How to interpret and analyse key financials to help the decision making process
  • How to apply different theoretical models to the pre seen
  • How to use theory as a useful tool for providing sound business advice in the exam

Activity #2: Start revising the different aspects of Ethics (an area often examined)

Ethical issues can come up in any CIMA Management case study exam.   Such as ethical issues in dealing with redundancy (Variant 1, May 2017) and the company’s ethical stance on bribery (Variant 2 May 2017).

The CIMA Management case study examiner has also made a point of saying that Ethics needs to be dealt with better by students due to “a general and surprising trend of candidates performing badly at questions relating to ethical issues.”

So if you want to score well in your exam you need to be prepared to deal with the different aspects of ethics should they come up.

In particular you want to learn:

  • Why ethics is so important at case study
  • Ethics – the theory and how to apply to the exam
  • Corporate Social responsibility – the theory and how to apply it
  • How to use CIMA’s ethical code – which the examiner for the CIMA MCS exam said could come up at any time
  • Controlling ethics – a checklist on how to deal with ethical problems faced in the exam
  • Why students ethical sections are typically so poor
  • A checklist of ethical headings to consider to analyse ethical issues in depth and maximise marks
  • How to write ethical recommendations in depth
  • What the examiners say about ethics and the exam
  • A standard structure to use in the exam to maximise marks on ethics questions

Activity #3 (Optional): Watch a live/recorded webinar on the keys to passing the CIMA MCS exam.

Here you’ll by taught by an expert tutor where you’ll learn:

  • What it takes to prepare fully for this exam, and what YOU will have to do between now and your exam date
  • What the examiner says you must do to pass AND what you must avoid
  • The skills of effective planning with a live demonstration of answer planning
  • A good understanding of the key points from the current pre-seen
  • How to use your knowledge of the pre-seen to score marks in the exam
  • The 10 theoretical models most likely to be examined, based on the current pre-seen
  • The writing style that maximises your marks in the exam
  • How to master your time management – often the biggest roadblock to passing this exam
  • Astranti MCS study text no.2 which covers all the key areas of the syllabus from E2, P2 and F2
  • Astranti’s MCS Ethics pack which goes into detail about how to deal with Ethics confidently
  • Astranti Masterclass 1 where you’ll be taught the keys to passing the MCS exam

Activity #1: Attempt Your First CIMA Management Case Study Mock (and submit for marking)

Without doubt the difference between passing and failing the CIMA Management case study exam comes down to one thing: How well you have practiced your exam technique under exam conditions.

Mock exams help you with just that.

But also, mock exams help you determine whether the hours you have already spent revising have worked in terms of committing the vital information to your long term memory.  After all, in the heat of your exam, you need to be able to quickly and easily recall how to approach the answers.

As each exam window is based on a different case, you’ll want to make sure that the mock exams you are attempting are on the latest pre-seen and contain realistic scenarios which could occur in the real exam.

Because taking your first mock is always quite an overwhelming task, this mock exam should be “moderate” in terms of difficultly level.   This means it will test your exam skills to date but at the same time should also be quite manageable.  (This is provided you have already undertaken the steps above).

Once you have attempted your mock, you’ll want to get your mock marked by an experienced tutor.

It’s really hard to tell by yourself whether you would have picked up marks or not throughout your script and also it’s hard not to be biased.

Your marker will give you a good outside perspective as to the level of knowledge and exam technique you have displayed in your script.  And also point out which areas of improvement you need to focus on most and how to go about making those adjustments.

Activity #2: Review First Mock solution

Here you want to review what a high quality answer looks like as well as the best way to structure your exam answer to the different requirements you are faced with.

It’s important that you don’t simply copy out the solution.  Instead as you read through, think about and note down any key insights you learn.  In particular ask yourself:

  • Did I spot ALL of the same requirements?
  • Did I format my answer in a similar way?
  • Did I apply the same or similar theory to each requirement?
  • Did I make roughly the same number of points in each section?
  • Did each of my points have a similar amount of depth to them?
  • Was my overall advice in each section in line with the solution?

It’s also important to remember that mock exam practice is all part of the learning process.  You’re not expected to be writing a strong answer just yet.   And it’s also better to find out where your strengths and weaknesses lye right now rather than on your actual exam day.

Activity #3: Keep Revising Theory from Papers E2, P2 and F2

Keep testing yourself on how well you explain the theories you cover and your ability to apply them to potential scenarios affecting the case.

Activity #4 (Optional):   Keep Revising Ethics

Keep working on how to deal with ethical issues successfully in your exam

 Recommended Resources;

  • Astranti MCS Mock Exam 1 and Solution
  • Marking and feedback from experienced Astranti tutor
  • Astranti MCS Text Books

Activity #1: Review First Mock Feedback When Returned by Marker

Your experienced marker will review your script in detail, paragraph by paragraph.

They will give specific feedback for each paragraph and determine your areas for improvement. This will enable you to identify weaknesses in your answers and how you can improve on them to get those vital marks.

Specifically they will give you feedback on:

  • How well you applied the case to the unseen scenario – are you scoring enough application marks?
  • Your application to the pre seen – are you using pre seen information enough?
  • The balance of your points under technical, people, business and leadership skills
  • Your exam technique – focusing on what you need to do to score more marks
  • Your writing style – is the way you make your points scoring good marks?
  • Whether you are writing enough to pass – do you need to make more points and in which sections?
  • Any key areas of technical weakness that you need to revise.
  • Whether your point’s long enough and your explanation’s detailed enough.
  • Your overall performance with your final mark – and whether you are on track to pass

Activity #2: Attempt Your Second Mock (and submit for marking)

Use what you learned from your first mock to your advantage.   Particularly look to put into place those improvements identified by your marker.

In this mock you should expect to score highly. The topics will be wide ranging to test your theoretical knowledge and application skills, but with good time management, this will be a moderate challenge.

Submit your mock for marking to confirm how well you scored and put those improvements into place

Activity #3: Review Second Mock Solution

Follow the same process as for your first mock solution

Activity #4: Keep Revising Theory from Papers E2, P2 and F2:

Recommended Resources;

  • Astranti MCS Mock Exam 2 and Solution

Activity #1: Review Second Mock feedback when returned by marker:

Follow the same process as when you got the feedback for your first mock.  Take comfort from where your strengths are and don’t get too down about your weaknesses.  You’ll never produce a perfect answer.  Simply commit to work on those specific areas of improvement in isolation before your next mock.

Activity #2: Attempt Your Third Mock

This will typically be your final mock before your actual exam.

As such, it needs to be very challenging and probably more difficult than real exam. That way your actual exam will feel like just another mock.

This final mock will cover some of the major topics (ones likely to be tested in the real thing) from E2, F2 and P2.

Submit this mock for marking to see where you really stand a week before your exam date.

Activity #3: Review Third Mock Solution

Follow the same process as per previous mock solutions.

Activity #4: Keep Revising Theory from Papers E2, P2 and F2

As in previous weeks

  • Astranti MCS Mock Exam 3 and Solution

Activity #1: Review Third Mock feedback when returned by marker

Hopefully be now you’ll marker will be reporting that you’ve ironed out most of your weaknesses and you are well on track for passing your exam.

Activity #2:   Final Tweeks

Work on any remaining areas of exam technique and technical knowledge that need improving

Final practice of your application skills to different theories

Activity #4 (Optional): Final Revision Webinar Ahead of Your CIMA Management Case Study Exam

Here you’ll learn:

  • The common mistakes made in the exam according to the examiner
  • Which errors you are still making that you’ll want to eradicate
  • The top 10 most likely issues in your exam based on the current pre-seen
  • Whether you are using the pre-seen information as you should be – the examiner says you must!
  • A reminder of the key elements of passing the MCS exam
  • Four key areas of improvement for YOU to score more marks on exam day (based on a script you have written)
  • Pre-prepared paragraphs based on your pre-seen which you can memorise that are guaranteed to score you extra marks in the exam
  • What the markers are saying about MCS scripts they are marking and what they say you should do to improve
  • The key time saving tips for the exam to ensure you complete every section on the day
  • A number of top industry examples which you can use to score marks in your exam
  • What other students are saying which can be of use to you in your exam
  • Your revision notes
  • Astranti Masterclass 2

This is your CIMA Management case study exam week!!!

Exams are held between Tuesday and Saturday.

Activities to perform on pre exam days:

  • Re read the pre seen & the one page summary of your analysis
  • Create a list of key points you want to use in your exam
  • Review all the key lessons from your mocks
  • Re read the key theories just to refresh your mind
  • Try to visit your chosen exam centre
  • Make sure you have your admission slip and ID ready
  • Take it easy the day before your exam – no last minute cramming
  • Sleep well and relax the night before the exam
  • Practice thinking positively ahead of your exam – visualise success

Activities to perform during Your Exam:

  • Go into exam with confidence – even if you don’t feel like it, try and act like it (trust me this works)
  • Work quickly through your exam and aim to make lots of points
  • Keep going right to the end and try to maximise your marks
  • Keep an eye on the time throughout and stick to your timings
  • Stick to what has worked in your mock exam practice
  • Your admission slip and ID

Final thoughts

This schedule is not meant to intimidate you.  It looks long and involved but it is manageable even with a full time job and other commitments .  Plus you can always use it as a template to create your own schedule.

I can’t guarantee you a pass if you stick to this plan. I wish I could.

But if you follow ALL the steps outlined in the schedule, you are gearing yourself up for the best chance of passing first time.   After all, it means you are following a proven framework that has been used by many successful students on Astranti’s CIMA MCS course

And if your exam is fast approaching, you can still catch up and complete all these activities in time.  It just means you’ll have to put in the extra effort in the time remaining.  But what you can’t do is skip ahead or miss a couple of these steps out …as this virtually guarantees you will fail.

Just be prepared to put in the hard work now so that you can reap the benefits come results time.

P.S. Have any questions? Drop me a note in the comments section below.

P.P.S. If you know someone who is also taking their CIMA Management case study, share this plan to help them, too.

CIMA Management Case Study

‘How to pass the case study’ mini-course

“The main reason people fail their CIMA case study exams is not lack of theoretical knowledge, not lack of pre-seen preparation – it’s poor exam technique. People just don’t know how to write answers in a way that scores marks, how to plan to focus what they say and how to manage their time across the exam to maximise marks in each section.”

Nick Best, Astranti CEO

The case studies are difficult to pass, with around 40-50% of people typically failing each sitting , and for most, it’s because they don’t fully understand what it takes to score highly in the exam.

They don’t know how to:

  • Produce answers that meet the examiner’s needs
  • Play the role assigned in the exam
  • Plan effectively
  • Manage their time to create balanced answers
  • Write answers that score high marks

Having helped thousands of students pass the case study, Peter Stiff, Astranti’s case study expert, has pooled his years of experience teaching CIMA case studies and produced over 10 hours of video content to show you exactly what you need to pass your CIMA case study exam .

We’ve also written a comprehensive study guide for you to work through alongside the video series , so that you can cement your understanding and begin to apply it to your exam.

Part 1 – What does it take to pass the exam?

Part 1 - What's covered?

Chapter 1 – the keys to passing the MCS

What are the most important factors in passing the CIMA Management Case Study exam and what do you need to do to achieve that? Our first video answers these key questions as well as providing a general introduction to the exam.

Chapter 2 – the exam

In order to pass the exam you need to understand what it looks like! We review the nature of the exam and run you through what you will be faced with on exam day.

Chapter 3 – your role

CIMA provide you with a ‘role to play’ for your exam. What is that role and what does this mean for the way you answer the questions in the exam? The examiner has commented that people playing the role well score more marks, so this is critical to you passing.

Chapter 4 – how to analyse the pre-seen

The CIMA examiners regularly comment that people do not use the pre-seen information enough in their exam. We provide a step by step approach to analysing the pre-seen to get the most from it which is useful to those people who don’t use the Astranti Case Study analysis.

Chapter 5 – answering the question

The examiner’s most common criticism of student scripts is ‘not answering the question asked’. The problem is people not properly identifying the requirements – it’s harder than it sounds! This video shows you how to avoid this most common of errors.

Total video running time: over 3 hours

Part 2 – Exam planning and writing

Part 2 - What's covered?

Chapter 6 – why you must plan your answers

Planning is one of the keys to passing the CIMA Management Case Study, yet most people don’t plan. In this video, we outline why planning is so important and why it is key to passing.

Chapter 7 – the 9 stages of exam planning

Our 9 step planning approach ensures you create answers that meet all the key requirements the examiner requires from a script. Follow these steps as the first stage in producing an excellent answer.

Chapter 8 – planning practice

You will only excel at planning through practice. Having been shown how to plan, it’s now your turn! We provide a question for you to plan, run through the solution and show you what an excellent plan for that question would look like.

Chapter 9 – writing approach

Using the right writing style makes a significant difference to the mark you score. So what is the style you should use that will enable you to score the most marks from the ideas you generate? This video demonstrates the style that markers say helps them give you the most marks.

Chapter 10 – writing practice

Can you produce a script like the good scripts you’ve just been shown? You will be given a question and will be shown how to evaluate that script to ensure you are writing your answer in a way that is scoring the most marks from the points made.

Additional content – lessons from student scripts

We examine a range of student Case Study scripts. You will see the good scripts, so you’ve got a clear idea what to produce in the exam, and the bad scripts, so you can learn what not to do!

Total video running time: over 4 hours

Part 3 – Scoring high marks on the pre-seen

Part 3 - What's covered?

Chapter 11 – how is the MCS marked?

By understanding how the Management Case Study exam is marked, you can tailor your answer to ensure you pick up all the key marks and miss out things that aren’t scoring well.

Chapter 12 – time management

The most important skill to master to pass this exam is time management. That’s not just us saying that it’s the top answer to the regular post exam poll we conduct of our students. Why is this so important and how do you master your own time management in the exam? This video will show you.

Chapter 13 – the optimum approach to preparing for the MCS exam

As you approach the exam what do you need to do to prepare in the best way? We will guide you through the steps you need to take to ensure you pass.

Chapter 14 – application to the MCS

Having the ability to apply your knowledge of the theory to the pre-seen scenario is crucial when preparing for the MCS exam. This section provides a series of templates and guides for you to do just this, linking in with some of the key theory and models from operational level.

Additional content – the examiner’s analysis of a real student script

There’s nothing better than hearing what the CIMA examiner wants from your Case Study exam. Luckily the examiner has provided us with an analysis of a real exam script with her commentary on what’s good and how it can be improved. We analyse this script and her comments and pick out the key learning points so you can produce a script which meets her needs.

Additional content – the marking grid

Our marking grid is tailored to give you feedback on the key areas of exam technique required to pass the MCS exam. In this video, we review each of these key areas and show you how to use the feedback given from your marked mocks to improve.

Additional content – review of examiner post exam reports

At the end of each exam, the examiner provides guidance on the key strengths and weaknesses in that set of exams. By examining a range of reports over a number of years we learn what she is looking for from your script, what you need to do to score well and what traps you need to avoid. We also examine how her feedback has changed over the years so you understand her current thinking.

Total video running time: over 3 hours

What our students have to say…

Please see our  testimonials page  for our latest student reviews. Here are a couple of examples:

“I’ve just passed my SCS and couldn’t have done it without Astranti.

I purchased the full course and it was brilliant; the preseen analysis was very useful, the exam technique was absolutely vital, and I was really grateful for the marked mocks and support from tutors (and other students).

This was my first case study having completed the other levels many moons ago before they introduced case studies at every level. I’d self studied the Strategic OTs and scraped through but there’s no way I could have passed the case study on my own.”

CIMA Qualified , July 2022

“Fantastic course for the Operational Case Study CIMA exam. I normally study for my exams with textbooks, but as I didn’t know where to start with the first case study exam, I purchased the full Astranti OCS course, which was well worth it.

Everything I needed was included and it helped me untangle what my priorities should be in revising, as well as teaching me the best exam techniques.

Passed first time which I put down to the excellent course structure, materials, and very communicative and helpful staff.”
