[The] notes were so incredibly helpful and encouraging , at a time I was getting so many passes, that it actually helped me open the script to an entirely new angle…one which helped me set it up with Imagine’s new indie division .

Great script coverage on a thriller script, very insightful. I believe it was a significant factor in helping me get representation with a major agent at a top LA boutique agency.

Absolutely worth the money! Had notes back within 2 weeks and the level of detail shocked me . I couldn’t be more thrilled and now have great direction on where to take my story for the next draft. You have a customer for life .

Choose a pro writer to give you expert feedback on your script.

Script editing/script coverage FAQs.

You can find the answers to most questions on our contact page but here are some answers to popular questions about our best editing and script coverage services below.

Q1. How do I know this won’t be a waste of my money?

Script Reader Pro was born out of its CEO, Al Bloom’s , frustrations at receiving vague, unhelpful script coverage from anonymous readers on his own scripts. That’s why we do the exact opposite! Every set of notes or edit we deliver to a customer comes with a rock solid promise: you won’t be disappointed. See our testimonials page for feedback on our services from writers just like you.

Q2. Why should I choose Script Reader Pro over anyone else?

You should absolutely check out our competitors before purchasing. You’ll find that none of them use professional screenwriters. You won’t know their names, just their initials. You won’t know what their experience is, other than something vague about “working at top agencies.” You won’t be able to choose a reader unless you pay extra, and so on.

Q3. But Company X offers 6 pages of notes in 24 hours for $80! Sounds better than you, right?

Hmm… Yes, it’s true other companies do offer editing and script coverage services at lightening speeds. We prefer to get things right by only offering a rush turnaround time of 3 days. It’s also true that some companies may be cheaper. It all depends whether you want to pay that little bit extra for higher quality feedback from a pro writer.

Q4. But why do I even need script coverage or editing? Can’t I do it all by myself.

Of course you can! The thing is, even professional screenwriters get feedback from other writers, their managers, friends, etc. before showing other people. When you’re “in the weeds” of your own script, it’s virtually impossible to know if it’s working or not. An outsider’s perspective can be invaluable in determining just how good it is. Or not…

Q5. Can you guarantee that I’ll break in after using your editing or script coverage services?

Unfortunately, there are no guarantees in this business as it’s super subjective. Therefore, we’re unable to guarantee any level of success after completion of the work, such as securing an agent, manager or making a sale or winning a contest. If you find a script consultancy that does guarantee these things, we recommend you proceed with extreme caution.

Q6. I’m not paying you to just feed this into an A.I. software am I?

This is a smart question too! Look, A.I. can do a lot of things, but it can’t tell a writer how to write a great script (yet). We can. And our successes reflect that. Don’t forget, we can also provide a 30-min Script Audit call with you so you can talk to the pro of your choice face-to-face about your script and get more info on next steps.

Top 5 Best Screenplay Coverage Services

script writing service

Script coverage is the term used for the analysis and reviewing of screenplays. In Hollywood, it's usually part of the creative development process, the first review step that a spec script receives as it makes its way up the chain of command at a studio, production company or literary agency or management company.

Read More: What you Should and Shouldn't Expect from Script Coverage

For the past nearly 7 years, we've been providing screenplay development consulting to screenwriters and producers in Los Angeles and around the world. Trust us... there are a lot of different types of script coverage and those who offer it.

We know almost all of the script coverage services in Los Angeles, and according to our anecdotal conversations with development executives, writers and producers, these are the best professional services that offer script coverage to the general public.

Read More: A Script Reader’s Checklist

Here's our list of the top 5 best screenplay coverage services in Hollywood:

ScreenCraft Screenplay Coverage - while we're not officially including our own script development services in this list because, well, that would be a bit presumptuous, we are proud of the successful track record we have helping writers develop their projects and connect with the entertainment industry.

  • WeScreenplay - This company is listed first because it's so fast, affordable and popular with emerging and professional writers alike. Coverage is delivered within 72 hours. Prices range from $69 for 4 full pages of creative notes, to $199 for even more comprehensive deep-dive development analysis from an experienced Hollywood script reader. All WeScreenplay readers have at least of year of experience reading for a major studio, production company, agency or manager. Full disclosure: WeScreenplay is also partially owned by ScreenCraft's parent company.
  • Bulletproof Script Coverage - This service is offered by Indie Film Hustle, the popular blog, podcast and YouTube channel that provides info and education, presented by filmmaker Alex Ferrari. We love that they list bios of their top readers on the website, showing their experience reading for top producers, TV networks and studios. The basic package includes 3+ pages of detailed notes, and their turnaround time is only 5 days. Prices start at only $99 for the Silver package and go up to $190 for the Gold package.
  • Script Reader Pro  - What we love about Script Reader Pro is that they’re a team of professional screenwriters who’ve sold scripts and know how to help you do the same. Chose one of their pro writers specialized in the genre of your script and receive not just coverage notes, but an action plan on how to improve your feature, TV or short script. They take great care in lining up the perfect reader, who can also be hired for a 12-week mentorship program to bring your script and craft to a new level. Their basic script coverage costs $169, and includes 4+ pages of specific and hands-on advice on your screenplay from a reader of your choice and can be turned around within 48 hours or less.
  • Launch Pad Studio Coverage - Tracking Board's Launch Pad coverage is an excellent choice for more advanced emerging writers. Get studio-style script coverage, including logline, synopsis and character breakdowns.
  • Coverage, Ink - Since 2002, Coverage Ink has been serving up high-quality script coverage for industry professionals and aspiring writers alike. Standard analysis for a feature film screenplay starts at $129 and includes at least 5 pages of thorough analysis from a professional reader. When you order feedback from The Black List's website, you'll receive a score on a 10-point scale which will show up to industry professionals who may use the platform to discover scripts. The cost for an evaluation from The Black List is $75, and the subscription cost to host a screenplay on The Black List's searchable database is $25/month per script.

FAQs About Our Script Writing Services

Do you exclusively work with published authors, why should i hire a screenwriter.

Expertise: Screenwriters have a specialized skillset that involves adapting stories for the visual medium of film or television. They understand the nuances of pacing, structure, character development, and dialogue that are unique to screenwriting and can help ensure that the story is adapted in a compelling and engaging way for a visual audience.

Time and Resources: Adapting a book into a screenplay is a time-consuming process requiring much research, planning, and writing. Many authors may not have the time or resources to devote to this process, particularly if they are also working on other writing projects or promoting their books. Hiring a screenwriter can free up time and energy for other important tasks.

Objectivity: Authors may be too close to their work to make objective decisions about adapting it for the screen. A screenwriter can bring a fresh perspective to the story, helping to identify which elements of the book will translate well to the screen and which may need to be reimagined or cut.

Collaboration : Working with a screenwriter can be a collaborative process that allows the author to bring their creative vision to life in a new way. By partnering with a screenwriter, authors can bounce ideas off another creative professional and build on each other’s strengths to create a compelling screenplay.

What is studio coverage?

What is the difference between a short and feature-length screenplay.

A short screenplay is typically around 15 pages long and focuses on telling a concise, self-contained story. Short films are often used to showcase a filmmaker’s skills and creativity, and they can cover a wide range of genres and styles.

In contrast, a feature-length screenplay is typically around 90 pages long and tells a more complex and nuanced story that develops over a longer period of time. As a result, feature films have more room to explore characters, themes, and subplots, and they often require a larger budget and more resources to produce.

Will I maintain full ownership of the work produced by your company?

What happens after my screenplay or studio coverage is finished, do i need to obtain a copyright for my screenplay, related products.

Technical Writing Certificate

Become a Certified Technical Writer

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Entering the realm of screenwriting? It’s an exhilarating journey, blending your unique voice with the technicalities of script writing. Whether you’re penning video scripts for an animated series or a content marketing agency, the key lies in mastering the art and the format. But worry not! If you ever find yourself tangled in the labyrinth of the act structure or hitting writer’s block, professional scriptwriting services are there to back you up. These services aren’t just about corrections; they help crystallize your vision, ensuring the message effectively reaches your target audience.

Best Script Writing Services

Understanding script writing services is essential. Essentially, they’re a bridge between the raw energy of a scriptwriter and the polished finesse required for screen success. These services often employ a talented team of writers who provide revisions and, sometimes, a complete overhaul of your script, refining it to meet industry standards. This isn’t just about grammar or syntax. It’s about understanding pacing, dialogue, and character arcs and ensuring that the story captures the audience’s attention from start to finish.

However, while the pros of these services are undeniable, it’s essential to approach them with clarity. Not every service is a good fit for every writer. Some might excel at handling video scripts for animated videos, while others might have a network in various industries that can get your script in the right hands. Let’s delve deeper into some of the top players in this domain.

Script Reader Pro

Script Reader Pro stands as a beacon for many emerging scriptwriters. The service prides itself on offering feedback rooted in real industry knowledge. They go beyond general advice, diving deep into the intricacies of your script to ensure it stands tall in a competitive landscape.

However, while their expertise is commendable, some writers have expressed concerns about their turnaround time. It’s essential to approach Script Reader Pro with a clear timeline, especially if you’re working on tight deadlines.

  • Detailed reports from working screenwriters
  • Variety of services, including one-on-one consultations
  • Active blog with free resources for writers

Pricing varies depending on the service chosen. One-on-one consultations tend to be on the pricier side.

WeScreenplay

WeScreenplay is a favorite among many for its swift turnaround times and comprehensive reports. The professional writers on their panel provide not only insightful analysis but also actionable advice to take your script to the next level. They’re particularly skilled at understanding the nuances of different genres, ensuring your narrative retains its authenticity while appealing to a broad audience.

However, while many admire the details, some users feel that the advice can occasionally feel generic. Also, given the swift turnaround times, a few writers felt that deeper narrative elements might get overlooked.

  • Fast turnaround times, often within 72 hours
  • A diverse range of reports, from basic coverage to in-depth analysis
  • Regularly held screenwriting contests offering exposure and potential representation

Pricing ranges depending on the depth of analysis you’re seeking. They also offer discounts during specific promotional periods.

Bulletproof Script Coverage

Bulletproof Script Coverage excels in offering constructive criticism. They don’t merely point out the flaws; they offer tangible solutions. Their team’s expertise spans various industries, ensuring your script gets the attention it deserves, no matter the subject.

However, their in-depth analysis can sometimes be overwhelming for new writers. It benefits those willing to dive deep, but novices might find the extensive reporting daunting.

  • Detailed analysis with a focus on actionable solutions
  • Coverage for both film and television scripts
  • Industry insights that help tailor your script for potential market success

Pricing is based on the script’s length and the type of feedback you’re seeking. They offer different tiers to accommodate various needs.

Spec Scout offers a unique blend of services. Besides traditional coverage, they actively scout scripts for potential fits, bridging the gap between writers and decision-makers. This proactive approach is a boon for those looking to enter the industry.

However, while their industry integration is a significant advantage, it also means a more significant emphasis on commercial viability. Writers looking for feedback on more niche or experimental works might not find their services as beneficial.

  • Script scoring system to gauge its potential success
  • Active scouting services that introduce writers to potential industry players
  • An extensive library of scripts for comparison and learning

Their pricing structure is more complex, considering the coverage and the potential scouting opportunities.

Shore Scripts

Shore Scripts is more than just a feedback service. With their extensive network, they actively champion scripts they believe in, connecting writers with producers, directors, and production companies. Their feedback is thorough, with a clear focus on readiness.

Yet, with their broad approach, there can sometimes be a wait for feedback. Also, their focus on industry readiness might not appeal to writers interested in non-traditional narratives.

  • Direct connections to producers and directors
  • Screenwriting contests with significant prizes and exposure
  • Detailed feedback with a focus on market readiness

Prices vary based on the depth of feedback and any additional services, like contest entries or direct introductions.

Industrial Scripts

Industrial Scripts has built a reputation for its meticulous approach to script analysis. Their feedback is exhaustive, leaving no stone unturned. The service is trusted by some significant names, giving weight to their feedback.

However, the thoroughness comes with a price. Their services can be pricier, potentially putting them out of reach for some emerging writers.

  • Exhaustive script reports
  • A range of courses and training programs for writers
  • Regular events and webinars featuring professionals

Their detailed feedback and reputation command higher prices. However, they offer a range of services catering to different budgets.

How to Find the Best Script Writing Service

Script writing is deeply personal, but it must be universally appealing. It’s a paradox that every scriptwriter grapples with. And when searching for a service, consider what you need most. Are you looking for a keen-eyed editor or a mentor with an extensive network?

Remember, it’s not just about the service; it’s about finding a partner for your scriptwriting project. Look for free quotes to gauge the potential investment. Pay attention to their past projects, areas of expertise, and customer testimonials. And always prioritize clarity of communication. Your script is your baby, and you need a team that respects your original concept while enhancing its appeal.

As a writer, I created Squibler because I saw the dire need for better scriptwriting software. Squibler packs tools, such as AI assistance and the screenplay mode, to help writers and creators dish out scene-ready scripts.

Here you can find the most frequently asked questions about scriptwriting services.

Why should I hire a scriptwriting service?

Hiring a scriptwriting service connects you with professional script writers skilled in creative writing, ensuring that your unique voice and original concept transform into a format that can create video scripts aligning with standards. Beyond just writing, it’s about optimizing your script for success in the competitive world of video content.

Can these services help in content strategy for a content marketing agency?

Absolutely. Many scriptwriting services have diversified into written content, aiding marketing agencies to refine their content strategy to engage new clients and potential customers. With the increasing demand for video content, their expertise in scriptwriting can be a valuable asset.

Do these services offer unlimited revisions?

It varies from one service to another. While some may offer unlimited revisions, ensuring the creative writing aligns with your vision, others might include several changes in the package. Always confirm this aspect before starting to ensure you’re getting the desired flexibility.

How important is the target audience when writing a script?

Vital. Understanding your target audience ensures your message effectively resonates, capturing their attention and driving the desired action or emotion. Script writers are trained to tailor content to specific demographics, ensuring your video content speaks directly to its intended viewers.

Why get script coverage on your screenplay:

1) To get a good idea of how a studio producer could react to your script before you send it to them.

2) To catch mistakes and potential improvements you might have overlooked because you’re so close to your draft.

3) To give your script every advantage possible in a very competitive industry.

Why choose us for script coverage:

1) We keep it simple. Providing feedback on screenplays is all we do . We don’t run script contests or promise to pitch you to an agent, or any of that other b.s. other services use to exploit writers and filmmakers.

2) Our readers are screenwriters themselves, each with at least a decade of film industry experience, and we pay them the highest rate in the industry . Other services work with newbies or interns.

3) Here at Screenplay Readers, you know who’s reading your script (names, bios, and pics here ), unlike nearly all the copycat services, where the readers are mysterious and anonymous.

4) Our script coverage gives you specific actions to take on your next draft . Our imitators can only provide vague screenwriting advice like “We should care more about your main character.”

5) We keep your data, your screenplay, and your ideas 100% private and secure . Other services have been caught scraping and selling user data. Be careful!
