Joe Praize’s “The Assignment” Album is Covered with the Cloak of Excellence

The Assignmen t resonates almost the same message, but  with different words.

Joe Praize has graced the tail of 2022 with a mouth-watering, spirit-igniting and dance-inducing album titled The Assignment , housing eleven amazing tracks. Ever listened to a song, and you felt like you have been immersed in an unending flow of the rain of God’s presence? That point where your sole desire is to stay in the heavy cloud of worship that a song has generated? Joe Praize, through this album, has provided eleven songs capable of replicating these exact feelings, and satisfying the thirst for good Gospel songs.

Having spent nearly twelve years on the Nigerian Gospel music scene, Joseph Omo Ebhodaghe, popularly known as Joe Praize, has proven to be a force that has come to stay. Since the release of his award-winning hit song, “ Mighty God ” off his debut album, My Praise , in 2010, Praize has made significant progress in his career as a Gospel artiste.

Praize is known for his ability to sing low and high pitches despite the hoarseness of his voice texture. He is also known for his unconventional pattern of singing, and his ability to infuse different styles into his songs to ensure that the production sits finely in the chair of excellence. From “Mighty God” to the songs on The Assignment , it is evident that Praize has successfully carved a niche of excellence for himself in Gospel music.

“Come and See” is an energetic song that starts with Joe Praize repeating the line, “my testimony na my message.” The intro is dotted with a jam from the loop, varieties of percussion from the lead guitar, a fine blend of the snare drum, and a mixed sound of the pot drum. In this song, Joe Praize speaks of the good things that God has done for him. From the title, he sings of God’s greatness and abilities. He further calls people to join him in giving thanks to God for his marvelous works. The energetic voice of popular Nigerian Gospel artiste, Mercy Chinwo, gives the song a whole new level of excitement.

“I Have Seen” is a solemn rendition that begins with audible chords from the acoustic guitar and a brief session of chants and speaking in tongues from Praize. Here, the unique, evidently hoarse voice of Praize sings about the might, faithfulness, and power of God that he has seen. He sings spontaneously until the voice of Nigerian Gospel artiste, Moses Bliss, sprouts from the background and takes over the rendition.

“God is Good” starts with subtle piano chords, followed by the resonating sound of a Mandarin harp, and afterwards the voice of Praize declaring that God’s goodness endures from generation to generation. The brevity of the song makes it easy for listeners to memorise the lyrics. The voice of Nigerian Gospel artiste, Nathaniel Bassey, is ushered in with a modulation, giving the song an obvious facelift.

“I Have Zoe” is an eclectic song that runs over varieties of styles, beats, and tempos from the intro through the entire song. The intro contains soft piano chords followed by an outburst of guitar percussions, laced with subtle piano chords and a striking introduction of drum work. Here, Praize sings of the life of God that he possesses. He affirms that the life incorporates victory, and so much more. In the line that says, “I have Zoe, I cannot be defeated, I have Zoe, I cannot lose,” Praize establishes that the life of God conditions him for perpetual victory. Praize features Nigerian Gospel artiste, Dunsin Oyekan, in this track. The similarities in their voice texture and energy add to the seeming metallicity of the song.

In “Great God,” Praize sings about the greatness of God. This song is lively and melodious. The instrumental is concentrated with sublime sound from the snare drum, the piano, and the bass guitar. The lyrics come in fine drops of praises to God for his faithfulness, wonderful works, and greatness. Well-known Nigerian Gospel artiste, Sinach, is featured.

“How Great You Are” starts with a powerful but short-lived session of praise echoes by Praize, running smoothly over the voice of Nigerian Gospel singer, Prosper Ochimana, in the background. Embellished with staccato breaks and a crescendo effect, the song can be said to have a rejuvenating effect on listeners’ spirit. The lyrics speak of God’s greatness, abilities and never-changing position as God. The tempo is heightened as Ochimana runs over the song, and ended with a brief moment of speaking in tongues.

“My God, My Love” is a song of exaltation. Here, Praize sings of God’s unchanging nature. The lyrics exalt God above everything that exists. In the line that says, “you are the one who satisfies my soul, the one that will never let me go,” Praize affirms that God’s love is the surest there is. Popular Nigerian Gospel singer, Ada Ehi, is featured.

With an intro that contains an audible blend of the shekere and the conga drum, “Halle” is a mix of Afrobeats that speaks of God’s strength and power. Infusing Igbo renditions in-between the song gives the entire production a taste of what an African song really feels like. Known for her awe-striking Igbo chants and renditions, Nigerian Gospel sensation, Chioma Jesus, adds a new height of sonority to the song.

“Talk and Do” starts with the sound of a flute and a sudden outburst of a disconnected instrumental. Being the shortest track on The Assignment , the song comes with brevity of lyrics, invariably enhancing listeners’ ability to memorise them in a short space of time. Here, Praize speaks of God’s ability to perform what his Word says.

“Big God” is a fusion of three unique vocal productions and styles by Praize, Buchi and Agent Synpa. The song comes with a consistently fast tempo from start to finish and speaks of the greatness of God’s power, and his abilities. He affirms God as the matchless creator that created the whole universe.

“Oh Sing” can be said to be the most danceable song on this album. It tilts towards Afrobeats. Praize, alongside Gospel singer, Eben, does simultaneous sessions of ad-libbing and private sessions of soloing. The song is all about God’s praise with a chorus of a single word, “hallelujah.”

Praize shows on The Assignment that the duty of the believer is to praise and worship God. Every track on the album is adorned with lyrics of adoration to God. Just like other Nigerian Gospel artistes such as Okey Sokey, Victoria Orenze, Chris Morgan , etc.,  have dropped soul-clenching albums, tilted towards the praises of God, as 2022 draws its curtains, The Assignmen t resonates almost the same message, but  with different words. Speaking about this album, Praize revealed that it was carefully and spiritually put together to bless the body of God. The entire album is a package of great styles and hard work. The patterns and progressions speak volumes of the expertise of Praize in writing good songs and adding good rhythm.

“Chequemate” Review: Cheque Takes Stock of His Trajectory on New EP

For a song to be termed as good, there must be deliberate attempts towards ensuring that the beat, vocal production, lyrics, and arrangements, are done well. All of these were, obviously, done well on this album, except for the sudden, poorly-done switching in the intro of “Talk and Do” that nearly hampered its beauty. The sound of the flute at the beginning of the track was also unnecessary. The sound did not blend properly with the sudden outburst that followed.  Fortunately, it didn’t continue into the song.

The Assignment is sure to stir up the atmosphere of thanksgiving in the mind of listeners.

2024 NFL Draft: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. follows father's path to the Eagles and other picks with NFL bloodlines

Nfl fans will remember some of the relatives of prospects drafted.

The 2024 NFL Draft  is well underway. The three-day event will serve as an introduction to several prospects making the transition from college for fans, but there is a handful of names that will sound familiar. Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and others will have the opportunity to carry on their respective family legacies as professionals. 

Here are some of the notable prospects with NFL bloodlines:

Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

Round 1, No. 4 overall

• A favorite outlet of Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison Sr. caught 1,102 passes for 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns in his career. The No. 19 overall selection out of Syracuse in 1996 was an eight-time All-Pro before being named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.

Chargers: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame

Round 1, No. 5 overall

• Joe's father, John Alt, played on the offensive line at Iowa, and was a first-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection, and was inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 2002. 

Bengals: Kris Jenkins Jr., DL, Michigan

Round 2, No. 49 overall

• Originally from Michigan, Kris Jenkins Sr. was a second-round pick out of Maryland in 2001. Over 10 seasons, he played with the Panthers and Jets; during which he was named a three-time All-Pro. 

Chiefs: Kingsley Suamataia, OT, BYU

Round 2, No. 63 overall

• Suamataia is the cousin of Bears linebacker Noah Sewell and Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell. He is also the nephew of Texas Tech outside linebackers coach and former Bills seventh-round draft pick C.J. Ah You. Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua was a high school teammate.

Utah EDGE Jonah Ellis

Round 3, No. 76 overall

• Ellis' father, Luther, played ten seasons in the NFL after a distinguished career with the Utes. Three of his brothers -- Kaden, Christian and Noah -- are currently playing the NFL. 

Rice WR Luke McCaffrey

Round 3, No. 100 overall

• Luke is the son of former NFL wide receiver Ed McCaffrey and brother of 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. His dad was a three-time  Super Bowl  champion during his 13-year NFL career. His brother was the No. 8 overall selection in the 2017  NFL Draft . The reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year is a four-time All-Pro selection, and tied an NFL record with 17 consecutive games with a touchdown.

Clemson LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

Round 5, No. 155 overall

• Jeremiah Trotter Sr. played 12 seasons in the NFL , including three stints with the Eagles. The third-round pick out of Stephen F. Austin was a three-time All-Pro en route to being inducted into the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame.

USC WR Brenden Rice

• Jerry Rice is arguably the best wide receiver ever to grace the NFL . He was a three-time Super Bowl champion and an 11-time All-Pro selection. The No. 16 overall selection in the 1985 NFL Draft finished his career with 1,549 receptions for 22,895 yards and 197 touchdowns; all standing NFL records. Rice is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. 

Southern Mississippi RB Frank Gore Jr.

• Frank Gore's playing career spanned three decades before he retired with the Jets in 2020. Originally a third-round pick by the 49ers in 2005, Gore played more games than any running back in league history and finished third in all-time rushing yards.

Miami Heat's Erik Spoelstra Downplays His Impact On Series Against Boston Celtics

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra rarely seeks attention for credit on his accomplishments.

He often downplays his role in team success, preferring to single out the players. As expected, Spoelstra refused to get caught up in the narrative of him being the X-Factor in their first-round series against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

"I'm not out there playing," Spoelstra said. "It's a collective playoff spirit. The playoffs are so competitive. The margins for error are so small."

Spoelstra went to the forefront this week when a stat revealed he improved to 10-3 in Game 2s after losing the series opener. ESPN's Kendrick Perkins was among the many to gush over Spoelstra's adjustment.

"This is the moment y'all been telling the world y'all been waiting on," Perkins said after the Heat's win. "But damn it here my big dumbass go again knowing better, knowing that Erik Spoelstra and Joe Mazzulla is a damn matchup. Erik Spoelstra had them boys ready to go and they showed out in great fashion."

Even if Spoelstra won't discuss himself, his players have no problem speaking for him. They know there is a reason he's won two NBA titles in six Finals appearances and named one of the top 15 coaches in league history.

"Everyone knows what Spo does at this time of the year," Heat guard Tyler Herro said after Friday's practice. "We just try to let Spo do him and understand that he knows his adjustments he likes to make from game to game. We just follow his lead. He puts us in the right positions and we just execute."

Packers solidify defense by adding two potential starters at positions of need

GREEN BAY — Entering this year’s draft, the Packers had questions in the starting lineup on defense at safety and inside linebacker.

Anthony Johnson Jr. played more than 300 defensive snaps as a rookie seventh-round safety last season, but the Packers could’ve upgraded from him alongside prized free-agent signing Xavier McKinney . Isaiah McDuffie , Green Bay’s 24-year-old inside linebacker, flashed starter’s potential last season when filling in for Quay Walker or De’Vondre Campbell , but the Packers might’ve been able to upgrade from him, too.

In the span of 13 picks in the second round Friday night, the Packers might’ve filled spots 10 and 11 in their starting lineup for new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley with the selections of Texas A&M inside linebacker Edgerrin Cooper at No. 45 and Georgia safety Javon Bullard at No. 58.

Green Bay Packers NFL Draft picks 2024: Grades, fits and scouting reports

Cooper was the only player in the draft to lead his team in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks and forced fumbles, and he did so for a top-10 defense at Texas A&M. Bullard is a versatile defensive back who can play both safety spots and nickel. He comes from a Georgia defense that has given the Packers four players in the first and second rounds of the last four drafts.

“They bring a lot of speed,” general manager Brian Gutekunst said Friday night. “These guys are really good football players. They run and hit. I think with Bullard, he’s very versatile. He can play the nickel. He can play safety. He’s done a lot of things. He’s a big-time leader for that football team at Georgia, which has been very, very good. And then obviously, Cooper, the speed that he brings to the table at the linebacker position is rare. So I think we got a lot faster, which I wanted to do this weekend.”

Head coach Matt LaFleur fired Joe Barry this offseason and replaced him with the former Boston College head coach Hafley, essentially putting more of the blame for the Packers’ defensive shortcomings on the play caller than the players. The roster wasn’t without blame, though, as players such as safety Darnell Savage Jr. and Campbell didn’t hold their weight. That’s probably why they’re on different teams now, with their starting spots potentially filled by the two guys Green Bay drafted first Friday night.

Gutekunst said at the combine in February that he wants his safeties to be able to play three spots: free safety, strong safety and nickel. Bullard was asked on a conference call with Packers reporters how many positions he thinks he can play in the secondary.

“I don’t think — I know I can play all three positions in the secondary,” Bullard said. “Whatever you need me to play. I feel like I proved my versatility throughout this process, man, being able to cover slot guys and being able to cover tight ends and being able to get down in the box and get down and dirty with your running backs, things like that, so I feel like I can play all over.”

It’s possible Bullard will play some in the nickel, a spot occupied by veteran Keisean Nixon , but Gutekunst said Bullard will probably start at safety. Packers assistant director of scouting Patrick Moore said Bullard’s ability to play nickel is what elevated him on their board among the other safeties available, a group that included all but Minnesota’s Tyler Nubin , who went 11 picks earlier to the New York Giants .

“I don’t think we took him with a specific spot in mind other than a good secondary player who can help us,” Moore said while adding praise that didn’t always accompany Savage. “As you guys know, you don’t play for coach (Kirby) Smart and not be a good tackler. That’s one of his strengths. If nothing else, he’s showing up ready to tackle. Tackling will not be an issue with him.”

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler notes that Bullard doesn’t have ideal size or length at a shade over 5 feet, 10 inches, 198 pounds and a wingspan that measured 73 5/8 inches at his pro day. But he adds that the guy who didn’t allow a touchdown in coverage for Georgia last season “is assignment-sound as a down safety, where he can quickly diagnose, drive and make plays at the football” and “is ultra-instinctive and makes his presence felt at all three levels of the field.”

Cooper probably has a lesser chance to start given how productive McDuffie was during fill-in duty last season, but you don’t draft an inside linebacker in the second round if he doesn’t have at least some starting qualities. Brugler’s scouting report of Cooper reads like what Walker’s would now — “An above-average athlete for his size, Cooper beelines to the football with outstanding closing burst and aggressive tackling … Cooper has some undisciplined tendencies and will run himself out of plays, but he is a fast-flowing linebacker who can run and cover.”

While Hafley’s base defense is technically a 4-3, Gutekunst has repeatedly noted this offseason that the Packers’ true base defense will be a 4-2-5 nickel formation with only two inside linebackers and not three. Even so, the Packers needed bodies at the position after releasing Campbell, and Cooper offers an intriguing skill set to potentially pair with Walker’s.

“Edgerrin’s probably not as thick right now as Quay was coming out, but same type of speed and intensity,” Moore said. “Obviously, you’re seeing them play the same type guys, same competition. Little bit different game but same type of physical traits and aggression, play style.”

Added Cooper: “That was something I always thought of, playing with another fast linebacker … being able to go sideline to sideline, having two weapons on the field like that, I feel like could be very dangerous.”

Walker and Cooper could pair to come downhill for tackles for loss and sacks, a feature they exhibit probably more so than Campbell did in Green Bay. Walker has already shown that downhill speed and Cooper is fresh off a season in which he amassed 17.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks from the inside linebacker position. Moore said that some of those were a byproduct of the Aggies using Cooper as a spy, a role in which he would trigger and make a play on the quarterback. That might come in handy against the quarterback a certain division rival took first overall Thursday night.

“I feel like some teams don’t have second-level linebackers who are able to track down faster quarterbacks,” Cooper said. “I feel like that’s one good thing I bring to the table, being able to spy or rush the passer and get to the quarterback.”

With one of the best young offenses in the NFL , one seemingly capable of carrying the Packers to the promised land for years to come based on what it showed last season, Hafley’s side of the ball carries the burden of making sure quarterback Jordan Love ’s exploits don’t go to waste. That sound familiar in Green Bay?

On Friday night, Gutekunst took what appears to be a significant step in equipping the Packers’ new defensive coordinator with the necessary tools to do what defenses here of seasons past couldn’t. Bullard and Cooper can both start right away if their college performances indicate what’s to come and help fill the few holes on both sides of the ball in the starting lineup for a team not far from Super Bowl contention.

'Morning Joe' hosts praise Joe Biden's speech to union workers while overlooking embarrassing teleprompter fail

L OS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: During ' Morning Joe's recent broadcast, hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski commended President Joe Biden's address to union workers, yet conspicuously omitted a moment when he inadvertently channeled the fictional character Ron Burgundy from Anchorman by relying too heavily on his teleprompter.

According to the Mediaite , the segment showcased clips from Biden's speech at a union legislative conference, following his endorsement by North America's Building Trades Unions. In these excerpts, Biden took aim at his likely November rival, Donald Trump.

In one clip, Biden criticized Trump's infamous suggestion of injecting bleach to combat Covid-19, though he later clarified he wasn't advocating for such a methods, Biden's quip,

"He missed it, it all went to his hair. I shouldn't have said that!" elicited laughter from the audience, with Brzezinski chiming in, "Oh, yes, he should have! That was pretty good!"

Further clips depicted Biden contrasting himself with Trump, portraying the former president as disconnected from the working class and insensitive to the struggles of ordinary Americans.

Joe Biden's emotionally charged remarks garner attention

Biden declared, "I was taught being told you're fired wasn't entertainment, it was devastating. It was a nightmare." To this, Scarborough reacted with a simple "Wow," while Brzezinski added, "Quite a speech there."

While Morning Joe's hosts acknowledged the potency of Biden's rhetoric, their subsequent coverage predominantly delved into Trump's ongoing legal battles, including debates over his immunity claim and the progression of his trial concerning hush money payments.

Notably absent from their analysis was a viral moment from Biden's speech, in which he inadvertently read "pause" from the teleprompter after declaring "four more years."

According to Newsweek , despite a report by Special Counsel Robert Hur on February 8 characterizing him as an "elderly man with a poor memory," Biden has consistently downplayed concerns about his age and even made light-hearted jokes about his memory.

However, Biden and former President Trump, the presidential nominees for the Democratic and Republican parties respectively, face an unpopular rematch of the 2020 election, with voters expressing skepticism toward both candidates securing a second term.

Questions about the age and mental fitness of both Biden, 81, and Trump, 77, have been consistent talking points during the 2024 election cycle.
