why do you think your business will succeed essay

15 Reasons Your Business Will Succeed

What are the reasons a business succeeds.

One of the sad realities of business is that only a small percentage can succeed. When we start a business, we all want to succeed. Starting a business, the right way is critical.

On average, only 1 out of 10 new businesses survive. About 50% of businesses fail due to incompetent management. Starting a company is a risky business. Entrepreneurs face obstacles at every turn. We all know there are plenty of reasons why businesses fail, but what are the reasons they succeed?

By examining successful companies, we gathered the following reasons businesses succeed:

What are the key success factors in business, thinking about success.

To succeed in business, you must think about success. From the day you start a business, you have to think that success is possible. Believe me. Nobody else will feel the same way you think about your business. Success begins with you believing in yourself, believing in your business idea, believing in your team. Picture yourself as a successful entrepreneur. Thinking success can take your business to the next level. It can and will inspire you and the team behind you. If, on the other hand, thinking business failure can stop you cold. Having negative thoughts about your business makes you less effective, less able to work on the hard problems you need to solve, and less likely to get ahead of your competition.

Don’t confuse thinking about success and taking action with daydreaming. Unfortunately, for many people daydreaming is a way to escape and avoid doing the difficult tasks required for business success. Having your head in the clouds isn’t productively thinking about business success.

Thinking about success will make you more effective in every situation, from motivating your employees to concentrating on business strategy, to developing creative business ideas.

Understand the Direction of the Business

Every startup needs a leader with a vision. As a business leader, you must know where you are and where you are heading. You need a clear direction to move your company forward. You can’t there unless you know where you are going. Every day, you have to remind yourself of the big picture. A good business leader keeps the long-term in mind while dealing with the immediate needs of a new company.

To keep your business moving in the right direction, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do I have a clear definition of the direction of my business?
  • Have I created a business plan that my team and I can follow?
  • What have I done today to move my business in the right direction?
  • What distractions did I have to deal with today?
  • What can I do to minimize distractions from the ultimate goal?
  • Did I succeed in motivating my team to reach our goals?

Speed to Market

You can’t be second if you want to dominate the market. If you are slow to market, you allow your competition to dominate the market. Especially with the rate of technology development, the faster a startup can produce its service or product, the better chance it has in delivering to customers. Companies that are slow to market have to compete with established industries. One of the reasons businesses succeed is that they reach consumers first.

The fastest companies to market have the best access to customers. Customers are more likely to talk to you if you are first to market. If you are late to the market, customers and prospects have already talked to your competition. It is tough for latecomers to steal customers from established businesses.

The first companies to market can easily dominate the market. It’s much easier to dominate a market without competitors. If you are first to market, you are more likely to succeed, even if your product or service is substandard.

If you are first to market, you will become an industry leader. Instead of competing with other businesses already in the market, you can set industry standards.

Financial Savvy

It’s no surprise that financial savvy is one of the keys to business success. The good news is that you don’t have to become a CPA to understand and manage your business finances. Experts are always available to help you with any questions you may have. But understanding the basics of business finance can put your business on the path to success.

What does financial savvy mean? It means that you are well versed in dealing with the financial aspect of your business. You understand credit, expenditures, profit margins, and various critical business financial details. If you have sufficient financial knowledge, you just increased your chances of business success.

They devise a financial plan and a budget. They are actively managing business finances. Successful entrepreneurs understand that expanding their awareness of how money works in business is a great way to increase the odds of success.

Here are a few important business finance topics for you should think about:

  • Accept the fact that cash flow keeps a business alive. It is the lifeblood of business. It is cash flow, not revenue, that keeps the lights on in your business. Carefully manage incoming and outgoing cash. The life of your business depends on it.
  • Learn to read and understand financial statements. The three most critical financial statements are; cash flow statement, balance sheet, and income statement.
  • The amount of capital you need to start and operate your business. Some businesses can be started with no money. Others may require a small fortune to get off the ground. And even if you start a business with no money, you still need money to pay your bills.
  • Every business expense should contribute to the bottom line and get you closer to break-even. You should focus on expenses that directly result in income generation. Paying for high cost commercial real estate space when lower-cost options are available can soak up precious cash that could be used for hiring more salespeople.
  • Understand your risk tolerance. As an entrepreneur, especially early on in the life of your business, you might be the last one to get paid. Changing economic trends, competitive pressures, changing customer needs, supply chain interruptions, and various other factors can make business success far from a sure thing. Make sure spouse and business partners have the emotional and financial capacity for a high degree of uncertainty.
  • Get a clear picture of how your business structure impacts your taxes. There are many types of business structures available to you as an entrepreneur, sole proprietorships, corporations, and limited liability companies (LLC). Before you commit to forming any business entity, consult with a tax professional and business attorney. The business attorney can educate you on the potential liabilities and risks of business entities. The tax professional can help you understand the potential tax benefits and consequences of each business entity.
  • Learn about the value of business insurance. Many entrepreneurs fail to think about liability issues until it’s too late. You should consider various business insurance products, such as property loss, professional liability, general liability, commercial hazard, life, auto, and theft. Don’t just talk with insurance salespeople; ask other entrepreneurs about insurance.

Measure Business Success

To succeed in business is to measure success in the right way. The only way to know that your business is on the right track is by keeping a finger on the pulse of how your company is operating. If you measure the right things, you’ll know where the challenges and opportunities lie ahead. Regardless of industry, businesses should implement benchmarks as a way to continuously measuring business success.

Here are examples of business success metrics you can implement:

  • It is critical to measure profitability. Revenue is important, but it only tells part of the story. You could be going bankrupt with record sales and revenues if you don’t keep your eyes on your net income ratio and profit.
  • If you have a marketing-dependent business, you need to keep track of leads generated and leads converted. Where do sales leads come from (social media, email, direct mail, search engines, cold calls, etc.)? Understanding leads and sales conversions is a critical business success metric.
  • It is critical to understand what your break-even point is if you want to own a successful business. In its simplest form, the break-even point is when the total revenue equals total expenses or costs.
  • The number of new customers, churn, or customer retention are important sales indicators.

Well-Connected

Just like early career builders, young startup companies can gain a leg up by knowing a few well-connected individuals . These companies use their social network for their first clients, investors , and mentors. As the adage goes, it’s not what you know – it’s who you know.

Startups need leaders who are willing to work hard and stick to their goals. This leadership inspires others to commit to a strict work-ethic aligned with the company’s mission. All employees must be engaged and dedicated to the goal.

Perseverance

Even when times get tough, and the road to success offers bumps and blockages, startups need to persevere to achieve success. The majority of startups bail when money is tight or disagreements arise between founders. Successful businesses stick it out in turbulent waters and remember their end goal during difficult times.

Quick to Adapt

Successful startups are comfortable with change. Leaders who know how to make smart decisions without a clear roadmap can take advantage of opportunities that more cautious companies can miss.

Knowing How to Attract Investors

Money talks in the business world. Without the startup funds , companies can never get up off their feet. Smart business leaders know how to generate capital to give their million-dollar ideas a shot.

Startups need an unwavering commitment to their mission and goals. Without the confidence that the company will succeed, the startup will dissolve when facing initial obstacles.

Efficient Time Managers

There’s no downtime when it comes to startups. If the leaders of a company are not putting in time around the clock, success is unlikely.

Everyone can have a million-dollar idea . It takes grit and strategy to put an idea into action. It is knowing how to execute sets apart successful businesses from the failures .

Exceptional Product or Service

Every business claims to have something special for the market. In reality, only a tiny percentage of businesses offer something truly unique. Great marketing is not what gets people to buy. If you are going to succeed, you have to figure out a way to consistently provide exceptional products or services.

If you want to succeed in business, starting your business the right way is critical.

What makes a good business?

Businesses that succeed have a unique value that helps them stand out from the competition. Offering the lowest price isn’t what makes a business successful. Let’s face it; most businesses cannot succeed by being the low-cost provider.

Tenacity is what makes a business successful. Attracting and retaining customers takes a lot of hard work and creativity. Even if you have the best product on the market, you must have a great marketing strategy to succeed in business.

11 Reasons Why Companies Succeed and 5 Reasons Businesses Fail

Entrepreneurs are superheroes as they all take the leap of faith and embark on a journey into the unknown. It takes a certain type of person to take on the responsibility of founding a company or working for a startup. The nature of a startup is one that contains sacrifices, emotional and physical investment, and pressure to perform.

On average, nine out of 10 startups go out of business, and the remaining that are able to survive and succeed are the ones that capture the qualities outlined below.

11 Reasons Small Businesses Succeed

Part of why small businesses succeed may be due to sheer luck, but there are also ways that entrepreneurs can set themselves up for success. Here are 11 reasons why businesses succeed.

1. Passionate leadership and a strong “why”

A key component in why a small business will succeed is its leadership and their vision. A well-defined vision is a skill or gift that every company leader needs in order to cross the finish line. It will be the major force behind an entrepreneur’s success and will serve as a compass in tough times. A startup needs to envision how to monetize from the very beginning. The first dollar counts, especially for potential investors.

2. Good management team

Even with passionate leadership and a vision for what the company needs to accomplish, good management will make or break a small business. Managers are the people in place who take the established strategy and delegate tasks to the right team members to get it done. A good manager cares more about the health of their team than their own ego, and it shows. As Marcus Buckingham’s adage from First, Break All the Rules goes: “People leave managers, not jobs.”

3. Company mission and vision statement

Small business success can easily be traced to a clear company mission and vision statement. It may sound simple, but a company that knows why it exists and is able to say so in a concise, clear way will succeed far more often than others. A company mission and the vision statement to go with it helps guide employees in their decision making and inspires them in their day-to-day work.

4. Unique value

A successful business knows what it offers its customer base. New businesses that turn into successful companies are able to differentiate themselves by adding a unique value to their customers’ lives. You don’t need to have a completely new business idea; even if you’re able to provide an existing product or service but in a better way, you can provide unique value.

5. Good market fit

Beyond providing customers with a unique value, successful entrepreneurs are able to find a good fit for their business in the marketplace. There are as many types of businesses as there are small business owners in the world, but knowing that there’s a need for what you do — especially a need that can grow — can help set you up for success.

6. Sound strategy

A successful small business is built on a sound strategy. While you can’t plan for every possible bump in the road, a roadmap (teamed with that mission and vision statement) will guide your decision making to keep you on track. A solid business plan can also help you lock in small business loans down the road.

7. Marketing budget

Gone are the days when a small business owner could start a healthy business without budgeting for marketing. Nowadays, a marketing plan contributes to your business’s bottom line by bringing in new customers and helping keep current customers informed on what you’re doing. To succeed in business, social media marketing, advertising, word-of-mouth marketing, content creation, and more need to be part of your business’s plan from day one.

8. Strong financial planning and good financial health

A successful startup is efficient in managing its finances and able to operate very lean. Every angle should have its own budget assigned and unnecessary expenses should be avoided. It’s important to know what the company needs in order to accomplish milestones and budget accordingly. When resources are limited, and time is of the essence, companies need to master the skill of doing more with less.

9. Access to capital

Being able to get financing when you need it is by far one of the most important and difficult aspects of small business ownership. Unfortunately, access to capital is also often part of your existing network, business history, and ties to financial institutions, which means access to it can be harder for historically excluded groups.

According to research by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, 83% of entrepreneurs don’t have access to capital like bank loans. But there are companies like Nav that are trying to change that. By providing Nav with some data points on your company, we can help you find the best business financing options for your business’s needs, including tips on how to open up even more opportunities by improving things like your business credit scores .

10. Empowered employees

A successful business is chock full of employees who not only do their jobs, but do them with passion and engagement. Seeing your employees as business partners is a great way to ensure that your employees are empowered to do their work. Just like in Jim Collins’s Good To Great , if the right people are seated in the right seats of the bus, the startup will eventually find its direction towards success.

According to 6Q , disengaged employees can do more damage to your business than you might expect, through bad customer service, a tarnished reputation, and even by making other employees miserable. You can encourage your employees to do their jobs well by providing mentors, encouraging new ideas, and addressing micromanagement and other burnout factors before they become real problems.

11. Diversity

Business leaders recognize that surrounding themselves with people who will just agree with their line of thinking is no way to succeed. Getting a diverse array of thinking in your small business can help you identify problems and their solutions in ways you may never have considered. This is why diversity isn’t just a “woke” buzzword — it’s a way of life for companies that want to adapt, increase productivity, and be successful in the long term.

Accelerate your path to better funding

5 Reasons Small Businesses Fail

Business failure can come down to a number of factors, some of which are out of our control. But here are five reasons small businesses fail that may be completely up to their owners.

1. Financial insecurity

Cash flow is the bloodline of any business. This means that businesses can be ruined with inadequate capital. Successful startups are the ones that have sufficient capital to run their business operations. The primary duty of a startup CEO is to be able to raise capital, whether through angel investors, crowdfunding, or business financing.

2. Bad financial management

Just having capital isn’t enough to make a business successful. Managing that funding is just as important as getting it in the first place. One good first step is to get a business bank account to separate your personal finances from your business finances and help you get a clearer picture of what money you actually have. Other financial no-nos that may spell doom for your business include not having a budget, spending too much, and even spending too little.

3. Ignoring marketing

You may know that you have a great product or service that meets a market need and offers unique value, but how are your prospective customers supposed to do that? Businesses of all sizes and types ignore marketing at their own peril.

4. Lack of competitive awareness

A company that operates in its own bubble and ignores what competitors are doing is bound to fail. In order to succeed in business, you need to know what your competition looks like. You don’t need to do much in terms of market research, either — regularly checking competitors’ prices, advertising, and social media can give you insight into their strategy and plans. In many industries, collaborating with competitors can even increase your market share as well.

5. Failure to pivot in unpredictable times

Yes, having a strong business plan and a solid strategy with a well-thought-out roadmap is extremely important to business success. But when major changes happen (like, say, a huge economic recession or a global pandemic), a good business leader will be able to pivot. Many brick-and-mortar companies that didn’t turn to e-commerce through the pandemic in 2020 missed out on new revenue streams and went under as a result. Truly successful startups are always looking for opportunities to do something better by thinking outside of the box and constantly questioning the status quo, and this is even more true during unpredictable times.

5.7 How to Succeed in Managing a Business

Learning objectives.

  • Discuss ways to succeed in managing a business, and explain why some businesses fail.
  • Identify sources of small business assistance from the Small Business Administration.

Why Do Businesses Succeed?

Being successful as a business owner requires more than coming up with a brilliant idea and working hard. You need to learn how to manage and grow your business. In the process, you’ll face numerous challenges, and your ability to meet them will be a major factor in your success (or failure) (D&B, 2008). To give yourself a fighting chance in making a success of your business, you should do the following:

  • Know your business . It seems obvious, but it’s worth mentioning: successful businesspeople know what they’re doing. They’re knowledgeable about the industry in which they operate (both as it stands today and where it’s headed), and they know who their competitors are. They know how to attract customers and who the best suppliers and distributors are, and they understand the impact of technology on their business.
  • Know the basics of business management . You might be able to start a business on the basis of a great idea, but to manage it you need to understand the functional areas of business—accounting, finance, management, marketing, and production. You need to be a salesperson, as well as a decision maker and a planner.
  • Have the proper attitude . When you own a business, you are the business. If you’re going to devote the time and energy needed to transform an idea into a successful venture, you need to have a passion for your work. You should believe in what you’re doing and make a strong personal commitment to your business.
  • Get adequate funding . It takes a lot of money to start a business and guide it through the start-up phase (which can last for over a year). You can have the most brilliant idea in the world, the best marketing approach, and a talented management team, yet if you run out of cash, your career as a business owner could be brief. Plan for the long term and work with lenders and investors to ensure that you’ll have sufficient funds to get open, stay open during the start-up phase, and, ultimately, expand.
  • Manage your money effectively . You’ll be under constant pressure to come up with the money to meet payroll and pay your other bills. That’s why you need to keep an eye on cash flow —money coming in and money going out. You need to control costs and collect money that’s owed you, and, generally, you need to know how to gather the financial information that you require to run your business.
  • Manage your time efficiently . A new business owner can expect to work sixty hours a week. If you want to grow a business and have some type of nonwork life at the same time, you’ll have to give up some control—to let others take over some of the work. Thus, you must develop time-management skills and learn how to delegate responsibility.
  • Know how to manage people . Hiring, keeping, and managing good people are crucial to business success. As your business grows, you’ll depend more on your employees. You need to develop a positive working relationship with them, train them properly, and motivate them to provide quality goods or services.
  • Satisfy your customers . You might attract customers through impressive advertising campaigns, but you’ll keep them only by providing quality goods or services. Commit yourself to satisfying—or even exceeding—customer needs.
  • Know how to compete . Find your niche in the marketplace, keep an eye on your competitors, and be prepared to react to changes in the marketplace. The history of business (and much of life) can be summed up in three words: “Adapt or perish.”

Why Do Businesses Fail?

If you’ve paid attention to the occupancy of shopping malls over a few years, you’ve noticed that retailers come and go with surprising frequency. The same thing happens with restaurants—indeed, with all kinds of businesses. By definition, starting a business—small or large—is risky, and though many businesses succeed, a large proportion of them don’t. One-third of small businesses that have employees go out of business within the first two years. More than half of small businesses have closed by the end of their fourth year, and 70 percent do not make it past their seventh year (Knaup & Piazza, 2011; Knaup & Piazza, 2007).

Table 5.2 Survival Rate of New Companies

Source: “Characteristics of Survival: Longevity of Business Establishments in the Business Employment Dynamics Data: Extension .” http://www.bls.gov/osmr/pdf/st060040.pdf .

As bad as these statistics on business survival are, some industries are worse than others. If you want to stay in business for a long time, you might want to avoid some of these risky industries. Even though your friends think you make the best macaroni and cheese pizza in the world, this doesn’t mean you can succeed as a pizza parlor owner. Opening a restaurant or a bar is one of the riskiest ventures (and, therefore, start-up funding is hard to get). You might also want to avoid the transportation industry. Owning a taxi might appear lucrative until you find out what a taxi license costs. It obviously varies by city, but in New York City the price tag is upward of $400,000. And setting up a shop to sell clothing can be challenging. Your view of “what’s in” may be off, and one bad season can kill your business. The same is true for stores selling communication devices: every mall has one or more cell phone stores so the competition is steep, and business can be very slow (Farrell, 2011).

Businesses fail for any number of reasons, but many experts agree that the vast majority of failures result from some combination of the following problems:

  • Bad business idea . Like any idea, a business idea can be flawed, either in the conception or in the execution. If you tried selling snowblowers in Hawaii, you could count on little competition, but you’d still be doomed to failure.
  • Cash problems . Too many new businesses are underfunded. The owner borrows enough money to set up the business but doesn’t have enough extra cash to operate during the start-up phase, when very little money is coming in but a lot is going out.
  • Managerial inexperience or incompetence . Many new business owners have no experience in running a business; many have limited management skills. Maybe an owner knows how to make or market a product but doesn’t know how to manage people. Maybe an owner can’t attract and keep talented employees. Maybe an owner has poor leadership skills and isn’t willing to plan ahead.
  • Lack of customer focus . A major advantage of a small business is the ability to provide special attention to customers. But some small businesses fail to seize this advantage. Perhaps the owner doesn’t anticipate customers’ needs or keep up with changing markets or the customer-focused practices of competitors.
  • Inability to handle growth . You’d think that a sales increase would be a good thing. Often it is, of course, but sometimes it can be a major problem. When a company grows, the owner’s role changes. He or she needs to delegate work to others and build a business structure that can handle the increase in volume. Some owners don’t make the transition and find themselves overwhelmed. Things don’t get done, customers become unhappy, and expansion actually damages the company.

Help from the SBA

If you had your choice, which cupcake would you pick—vanilla Oreo, tripple chocolate, or latte? In the last few years, cupcake shops are popping up in almost every city. Perhaps the bad economy has put people in the mood for small, relatively inexpensive treats. Whatever the reason, you’re fascinated with the idea of starting a cupcake shop. You have a perfect location, have decided what equipment you need, and have tested dozens of recipes (and eaten lots of cupcakes). You are set to go with one giant exception: you don’t have enough savings to cover your start-up costs. You have made the round of most local banks, but they are all unwilling to give you a loan. So what do you do? Fortunately, there is help available. It is through your local Small Business Administration (SBA), which offers an array of programs to help current and prospective small business owners. The SBA won’t actually loan you the money, but it will increase the liklihood that you will get funding from a local bank by guaranteeing the loan. Here’s how the SBA’s loan guaranty program works: You apply to a bank for financing. A loan officer decides if the bank will loan you the money without an SBA guarantee. If the answer is no (because of some weakness in your application), the bank then decides if it will loan you the money if the SBA guarantees the loan. If the bank decides to do this, you get the money and make payments on the loan. If you default on the loan, the government reimburses the bank for its loss, up to the amount of the SBA guarantee.

In the process of talking with someone at the SBA, you will discover other programs it offers that will help you start your business and manage your organization. For example, to apply for funding you will need a well-written business plan. Once you get the loan and move to the business start-up phase, you will have lots of questions that need to be answered (including setting up a computer system for your company). And you are sure you will need help in a number of areas as you operate your cupcake shop. Fortunately, the SBA can help with all of these management and technical-service tasks.

This assistance is available through a number of channels, including the SBA’s extensive Web site, online courses, and training programs. A full array of individualized services is also available. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) assists current and prospective small business owners with business problems and provides free training and technical information on all aspects of small business management. These services are available at approximately one thousand locations around the country, many housed at colleges and universities (U.S. Small Business Administration, 2011).

If you need individualized advice from experienced executives, you can get it through the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) . Under the SCORE program, a businessperson needing advice is matched with someone on a team of retired executives who work as volunteers. Together, the SBDC and SCORE help more than a million small businesspersons every year (U.S. Small Business Administration, 2011; SBDC Economic Impact, 2011).

8 tips to craft a winning business essay for success

In this article, we will explore eight key tips that will guide you toward success in creating a winning business essay . From understanding the nuances of the subject matter to presenting your ideas with clarity and conviction, these tips will empower you to craft a remarkable piece of written work.

8 great tricks for writing a winning business essay

When it comes to writing a winning business essay, using effective strategies can make all the difference. By implementing the following eight tips, you can enhance your essay’s quality and increase the chances your business writing has a maximum impact on your target group of people.

Choose a topic

The first step in writing a great college assignment is choosing the right topic. Often students are given topics to work with, simplifying things as they only need to ensure that their content aligns with the subject and the project’s scope. When handed the freedom to choose, however, you have to make sure that your business topic is relevant, interesting, and narrow enough to be covered in the length indicated. For the best topic, review available evidence through preliminary research, ensuring that there are enough sources to support your writing.

Brainstorm and outline

Once you have understood what is expected, brainstorm ideas and create an outline. Outlining saves you time and ensures you stick to the topic. It includes your main points and allows you to gather evidence and examples for your essay. Write down what you can think of relating to the topic for a good outline.

You can develop these ideas further in readiness for the writing process through research. Sure, you will need to create a thesis statement to guide you with the outline. A thesis is a statement or two at the end of your opening paragraph, presenting your primary argument and telling readers what to expect from the writing.

Follow the right format

Use the conventional format to create your essay, opening with a good introduction before going into the body paragraphs. Only have one idea in each paragraph, explaining it in detail using evidence before moving to the next idea. Use transition phrases and sentences to tie your writing together.

Stick to the right note

Your tone of voice, when you write a business document, matters as it helps you establish and balance your brand. Experts indicate that business writing demands consistency across all written communications. It means creating a unique voice to maintain in all your documents, allowing audiences to identify with your material.

When prospects and potential clients view the material, they should instantly associate it with your product. It is ok if you need to learn how to create an outstanding paper; you can always hire a reliable service like EssayUSA to work on your task.

Get to the point quickly

There is no place for small talk in business writing. Readers will have limited time to consume your content; you cannot spend it going through unnecessary information. So, to create exceptional writing for business. Ensure that you get to the point as soon as possible. You don’t want to distract your readers before they get to listen to your main message.

Your safest bet is ensuring your content is scannable, allowing readers to find the most crucial information in your essay easily. If possible, include headings and subheadings in your writing, making sure the structure of your document is easily accessible to your readers.

Be clear and concise

One of the vital things you can do when writing a business document is to ensure clarity and conciseness. Experts recommend using plain language to write business papers. There is no need for lengthy and distracting paragraphs. You need to keep your writing short and clear, articulating your points in as few words as possible.

Expert writers also use specifics to highlight their points, avoiding being vague in their business writing. Always keep the goal of your writing in mind throughout the process.

Avoid clichés and jargon

Read and understand the instructions.

When writing a business essay for an academic project, there will be a set of instructions you are expected to follow. These indicate what the student will achieve within the project’s scope and outline elements like formatting, citations, length, and the number of sources. Before writing your assignment, ensure these guidelines are clear by reading them multiple times. Ask your professor to clarify elements that seem vague or complicated.

Crafting a winning business essay requires a combination of skill, knowledge, and creativity. By implementing the eight tips discussed in this article, you can create an impactful essay that will impress your professors, colleagues, or clients.

With practice, persistence, and dedication, you can achieve success in the world of business essay writing. So, start writing, and let your words inspire and captivate your readers.

24 Entrepreneurs Explain Their Motivation for Running a Business

24 Entrepreneurs Explain Their Motivation for Running a Business

Being an entrepreneur or business owner has its share of ups and downs. While the downs can be pretty low the ups always seem to triumph for a true entrepreneur at heart. Milestones are what entrepreneurs and business owners work towards. Once you finally reach a certain point then reflection can truly begin. Finding the motivation in running your business keeps it from becoming stale in the long run. No matter which part you loves most, loving them all is equally as important.

We asked entrepreneurs and business owners what motivates them about running a business and below are their replies.

#1- seeing the impact of my work.

My motivation to keep going is seeing how our food helps our clients' dogs. When delivering, I can see how their skin is softer and less red, they have slimmed down, their aching joints are little more nimble – these physical changes are so impactful to me that they can get me over the hump. And dog kisses and hugs always put a smile on my face!

#2- Always having to try to figure things out

For instance, one big mistake we made when starting our new business is their failure to understand our value proposition. What is it about our product , service and offer that compels people to say yes? Until we knew this, any marketing efforts or spend in any channels will be like pouring gasoline on wet leaves. For instance, when we first launched, we thought people would like our service because its a cheaper way to get their grass cut. What we found through copy testing in different channels such as ad-words and FB is that the customers' ability to get same day service is a much more effective and compelling subset of our value prop that drives more visitors and more conversions on our landing pages. Nailing your value prop first is crucial.

#3- Networking and connecting

I've always been extremely social and a huge networker– It's been my most fruitful tool in building Cheekd. I'm constantly making connections for those around me and in return, I feel like if I don't know the person I'm looking for someone I know will. And now I’m even giving people all over the world a tool to help them find the most incredible connection that exists- love. My idea has become more than just a business over the years… It’s become my mission.

Thanks to Lori Cheek, Cheekd !

#4- Seeing positive and appreciative reactions

Running your own business means that you can give customers what you believe to be the best products and services. Seeing positive and appreciative reactions from your customers based on what you provide them can be incredibly motivating especially if you are tired or not having the best day.

Thanks to Natalie Athanasiadis,  DVG Melbourne !

#5- Helping other people

My motivation is to help others develop a healthy self-image and impactful career. The mission of PurposeRedeemed is to: Inspire a countercultural view of work that affirms the dignity of every individual and drives sustainable community impact. We believe that work should neither be just a paycheck nor what determines our self-worth. In a culture that measures people by their status and finances, we’re here to show a better way—equipping individuals to identify and pursue their passions; developing leaders with a healthy perspective on identity; and building communities that elevate the conversation on work.

Thanks to Christopher K. Lee, PurposeRedeemed !

#6- My Daughters

The biggest reason is my daughters. I grew up during a time when it wasn't very typical for women to run their own businesses (my own mother was a stay-at-home-mom) and I think it's important to normalize that experience for my girls. Women can be great wives and mothers and also incredibly talented, savvy business owners! I also am constantly motivated by ambition and a sheer refusal to quit. When I face challenges in my business, like losing a client or working with contract employees who are unreliable, I simply see it as a way for me to get more creative to figure out how to move beyond the obstacle. I never shy away from a challenge–it keeps me on my toes and ends up strengthening my business in the long run.

Thanks to Hilary Young, Hilary Young Creative !

#7- Making forex trading simple to women

My motivation in running my business is hearing the joy in a woman's voice who realizes trading Forex was not as difficult as she thought. Empowering women with a skill most never dreamed they could master is a great feeling. Watching women have options to supplement their income without having to leave the comfort of their own home gives us a reason to go through the struggles of running a new business.

Thanks to Robyn Mancell,  Girls Gone Forex !

Most people are afraid to say that as to not sound materialistic. But when you realize that the money you make is already labeled and it has a purpose, you can say it with all confidence. I look at it as M.O.E Money. It's no longer about private jets, yachts or the latest designer handbag. My money is designated to make *M*oments, *O*pportunities and *E*xperiences for those I love and those who are less fortunate. Giving money a purpose, in turn, gives meaning to my business and the work I do. My biggest thrill isn't more stuff. It's seeking ways to use resources to create life-changing possibilities for others. When times get hard, I think about my children and grandchildren and the exposure and experiences I want them to have. It is all the motivation I need to put my nose down and keep hustling.

Thanks to Camille D. Jamerson, CDJ & Associates !

#9-Positive impact and empowerment

I help clients invest their money in alignment with their values, finding innovative, solution-focused companies that matter. Being a woman in finance is never easy, though helping people connect the dots between their assets and their visions for the world in which they want to live is what keeps me energized and excited to grow the field of impact investing.

Thanks to Kristin Hull, Nia Global Solutions !

#10- Missionary zeal and joy of learning

My startup specializes in selling exhibition catalogs – books which I believe are truly inspirational but are not reaching the audience they deserve. That missionary zeal together with the joy of learning as I navigate new challenges and opportunities keeps me going through the long hours. Coffee is a help too!

Thanks to Caroline Keppel-Palmer, Museum Bookstore !

#11- Sticking to our mission despite the challenges

One of my company's missions is to introduce people to the wilderness and inspire them to protect it. The current political climate prioritizes the decommissioning public lands with the goal of selling them to the highest bidder, so our mission is of ever-increasing vital importance. This is what keeps me motivated when other pressing challenges arise.

Thanks to Steve Silberberg, Fitpacking Weight Loss Backpacking Adventures !

#12- Flexibility

As the owner of a company, I get to choose the roles within it that are not only the most interesting to me, but also the most flexible. As a mom of three boys, it’s always been incredibly important to me that I “be there” for them. This meant, when they were younger, I ran and built the business at times when they did not need me (mostly in the evenings after they went to bed). And now that they’re in school and I work mostly during the day, I have the flexibility to volunteer in their classrooms and be home with them when they’re sick. Juggling this schedule for the past 19 years of also raising my boys has taught me that there is plenty of time in the 168 hours each week, to do both.

Thanks to PaigeNeJame, CertaPro Painters of the South Shore and Boston !

#13- Investing in others

Most of the things that are read online about blogging are about ditching the 9-5 and making a ton of money as your own boss on your own time. This is not my motivation however! I have a traditional career as a district manager for a major retailer, overseeing 22 stores across three states…and I happen to love it! The reason that I am turning this blog of mine into a business is because it gives me the opportunity to teach a wider audience a wider set of skills. Investing in others is what I have a passion for, and it’s what gets me to my computer at 5:00am everyday to work on growing Origin Leadership before I get to work driving sales as a District Manager.

Thanks to Nick Glassett, Originleadership.com !

#14- My team and the work itself

My motivation has always stemmed from my team. When I started, that was the most rewarding aspect of my business: having the privilege of working with first-rate individuals who are passionate, intellectual, creative and devoted to our mission. As I get older and establish a better work/life balance, my team is still the reason I am drawn to my work. As their CEO, it's a big job to fulfill my obligations to them (of aggressively growing and leading the company,)…and I don't always succeed at meeting every challenge along the way. But when I do, there is almost no better feeling than feeling the gratitude and respect coming from my ambitious team. And, throughout our journey, the shared responsibility everyone on my team expresses –genuinely treating our company as if it is their own– is an indescribable thing to witness, and incredibly gratifying.

Thanks to Megan Cunningham, Magnet Media, Inc !

#15- My clients

I can easily state that my motivation for my business is *my clients*. I lead small group tours all over the world, mostly in Europe. Although my job cannot be classified as easy, the one thing that keeps me going is the thought of the look on my clients' faces when they travel with me. Many times the impetus for a trip with us is that they have experienced a significant life milestone, They have retired or they are empty nesters and in some cases it is more that a milestone, they have lost a spouse. They see traveling as a way to re-affirm their lives. They are out in the world. They are seeing things that are on their ‘bucket lists'. And the smiles, and sometimes tears, of appreciation for my work makes all the hard parts of my job, worth getting through.

Thanks to Patricia Hajifotiou, The Olive Odysseys !

#16- Lifestyle

What keeps me motivated to run my business is the lifestyle I enjoy because of it. I don't have to wait for a long weekend to go biking, hiking, or play golf. I don't have to schedule my family time around my business. Sure, there are days when I get frustrated but most days, I actually enjoy running my business. And when I look at everything that I have gained because of it, it just makes me value my business even more.

Thanks to John Jonas, Onlinejobs.ph !

#17- Customers Feedback

As an entrepreneur and creator of several twin products, I find that I am motivated by pictures and responses from customers stating that the products have made an actual difference in their lives. Recently I was contacted by a mom of twins who was having the hardest the time leaving the home alone with her baby twins. Her therapist has suggested that she find a way to leave the home with them and get some fresh air. She wrote to us telling us how one of our products (the Twingaroo twin carrier) allowed her to do so. Not only that, when she was out and about she found that people would approach her to ask her about it and compliment her for being able to juggle the twins on her own. We get countless pictures of parents of multiples using our products and that just solidifies why I do what I do- to help other parents of multiples tackle their daily challenges!

Thanks to Julixa Newman,  Stuff 4 Multiples !

#18- The Journey

As an entrepreneur I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to turn my passions into profits, while still helping people. It’s not always been easy, but I’ve learned to look at my setbacks as setups for greater success. It’s the journey, not each step, that has truly been most fulfilling. The freedom to pursue my dreams and make a difference has made the juice well worth the squeeze.

Thanks to Katrina McGhee, LovingonMe !

#19- Work/Life Balance

When the work gets tough, I have a motto that I believe in and live by, as it motivates me when the work gets difficult. The one question I always ask myself is: What is the worst that can happen? Every day, I also always tell myself: If you do things for the right reasons, only the right thing can happen. Do whatever it takes for as long as it takes. I also try my best to maintain a positive attitude, because that is essential for success. Energy is the fuel that feeds our attitude and it needs to be replenished on a daily basis. Having a positive attitude is a conscious choice, so when negative thoughts creep in, I stop them in their tracks and replace them with positive self-talk. I repeat words or phrases that focus on affirming truths about me. I also surround myself with like-minded women who are an inspiration and who will provide encouragement. Positivity allows you to see the potential that lies within you and gives you the faith to step outside of the box to achieve your dreams.

Thanks to Grainne Kelly, BubbleBum !

#20- Helping people gain confidence

The main motivation for running my business is knowing that I’m helping people gain confidence through sport. Swimming helped me gain confidence in life and I want everyone to feel this confidence in their lives too. Not only does swimming lessons teach confidence, it is also a life skill that prevents accidents. I’m passionate about this and also enjoy swimming as a part of my daily life, which makes running my business a breeze.

Thanks to Diana Goodwin, AquaMobile Inc. !

#21- Responsibility

Being responsible for the income of my employees and their families is my biggest motivator for ensuring the business is thriving. It's stressful at times but drives me to seek as many opportunities to grow and ensure the company is thriving. It's also quite rewarding knowing I'm able to help support these families and it makes me want to grow my business that much more to hire more employees and help provide for as many people as I can.

#22- Survival mode

Despite huge ups and huge downs, I always continue as it would end very shortly. It's my survival mode instinct that keeps me going. It's the accountability toward our mission of defending people's privacy as well as the passionate team working every day for the good.

Thanks to Olivier Plante, Fleksy !

#23- A number of things

There are always ups and downs, and what keeps me going strong is the certainty that I'm doing meaningful work that helps people expand their mind and reach their goals. Another thing that pushes me forward is the promise that I will do my best to create a great today and an even better tomorrow for all the people that surround me. And I also find motivation in what I refer to as the five freedoms: Financial Freedom (for now and for the future). Location Freedom (live and work from wherever I want and is best for me). Time Freedom (flexibility with my schedule). Freedom of Association (focus on the clients I want to work with). Freedom of Purpose (do the work I love and that I'm good at).

Thanks to Helena Escalante,  Entregurus.com !

#24- Helping difficulties

There’s a lot more that motivates me to run my business than just the money. Obviously, making more money means I’m able to provide even more for my loved ones, which is very important to me, but there are also other responsibilities that drive me when running a business. Getting the right  insurance policy can be a stressful process for a lot of people, and Cuuver eases that process by allowing people to compare the wide range of policies that are available to them in a simple and easy way. Knowing that my business helps people deal with something they are finding difficult motivates me to make the business as effective and successful as possible. There is also the matter of ensuring that all of my employees are happy and that my business is helping them to look after their own loved ones. I want to make sure that everyone involved with Cuuver benefits from my business in some way, whether it be a customer or an employee.

Thanks to Steve Pritchard, Cuuver !

Finding Success Starts with Finding Your Purpose

  • John Coleman

why do you think your business will succeed essay

It’s never too early — or too late — to ask the big questions.

Many people work their whole lives to achieve material success only to find their happiness and sense of purpose wanting when that success comes. They often spend their later years looking for purpose in their lives in order to feel a sense of meaning. Searching for meaning late in your life is a missed opportunity. Success without significance — purpose, service, and meaningful relationships — is not really success at all. It’s important to properly reflect on how you can live a life imbued intensely not just with the superficial trappings of “success” but with deep purpose and joy in all we do — starting now. Ask yourself:  What is the core purpose of my work and the ways in which it makes the world better? Who are the key relationships in my life, and how can I deepen them? What more can I do at work, at home, and in my community to serve others? How am I becoming better each day?

In 1995, Bob Buford wrote the bestselling book Halftime , which popularized the concept of “moving from success to significance” in the second half of life. Buford realized that many businesspeople work their whole lives to achieve material success only to find their happiness and sense of purpose wanting when that success comes. And he rightly encouraged those people to seek out meaning and impact in their later years.

Why Do You Think You Would Succeed In Business?

There are many reasons why someone might want to start their own business. They may have a great idea for a product or service, they may be passionate about a cause, or they may simply want the freedom and flexibility that comes with being their own boss. Whatever the reason, anyone who is considering starting their own business should ask themselves one important question: Why do you think you would succeed in business?

  • Why Do You Think You Would Succeed In Marketing?
  • Why Do You Think You Would Succeed In Sales?
  • Why is Customer Relationship Management Important in a Market Orientation?
  • How can Product Management Leverage Market Rhythms?

There is no single answer to this question, as each person’s situation is unique. Some people have a natural talent for it, while others have to work hard to achieve success.

However, there are some common factors that contribute to success in business.

  • One of the most important factors is having a clear vision and goal for your business. Without a clear vision, it can be difficult to make decisions and stay on track.
  • It’s also important to be passionate about what you’re doing. If you’re not passionate about your business, it will be difficult to motivate yourself and put in the long hours required to succeed.
  • It’s important to be realistic about the challenges you’ll face and have a solid plan for overcoming them.
  • Surrounding yourself with a great team of supportive people who share your vision will also give you a big boost on the path to success.
  • Finally, it’s important to have a good support network. This includes family and friends who believe in you and your vision, as well as mentors who can provide advice and guidance. Having a strong support network can make all the difference when starting and running a successful business.

If you can honestly say that you have all of these things going for you, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t feel confident about your chances of succeeding in business. Of course, even the best-laid plans can sometimes go awry, but if you believe in yourself and your ability to overcome obstacles, then you stand a much better chance of making your dream come true.

What are the 7 Key Success Factors for a Successful Business?

There is no one answer for what the key success factors are for a successful business. However, there are 7 general areas that any business needs to focus on in order to be successful.

  • The first key success factor is having a clear and attainable goal. What does your business want to achieve? This may seem like a simple question, but it’s important to have a definitive answer. Without a goal, it will be difficult to measure progress and determine whether or not your business is successful. Successful businesses start with a clear understanding of what they want to achieve. Whether it’s increasing sales by 10% or becoming the market leader in your industry, you need to have a goal to strive for. Once you know what you want to achieve, you can develop strategies and action plans to make it happen.
  • The second key success factor is creating and maintaining a good reputation. Your reputation will precede you, so it’s important to make sure that you’re putting your best foot forward at all times. This means providing quality products or services, treating customers and employees fairly, and being active in your community.
  • The third key success factor is efficient operations. In order for your business to run smoothly, you need to have systems and procedures in place that allow things to run as efficiently as possible. This includes everything from supply chain management to customer service processes.
  • Fourth, businesses need to generate revenue in order to be successful. Obviously, without revenue coming in, businesses would quickly go bankrupt. There are many ways to generate revenue, such as through sales of goods or services, advertising revenues, or investment income.
  • Fifth, Build a Strong Team: No business can succeed without a great team behind it. You need employees who are passionate about their work and committed to helping the company reach its goals. Furthermore, each member of your team should have the skills and knowledge necessary to do their job well. By building a strong team, you’ll be setting your business up for success.
  • Sixth, Focus on Your Customers: At the end of the day, businesses exist to serve their customers. Therefore, it’s essential that you focus on delivering an excellent customer experience at every touchpoint. From the initial contact through to post-purchase follow-up, your goal should be to exceed customer expectations and build long-lasting relationships.
  • Last but not least, the seventh key success factor for businesses is profitability. Businesses need to generate enough profit margin so that they can reinvest back into the business, pay their employees, and cover their overhead costs. Achieving profitability can be difficult, but it’s essential for long-term success.

5 Reasons That Means a Business Has Been a Success

A business is successful when it has these five characteristics: a loyal customer base, passionate employees, positive cash flow, consistent growth, and profitability. Let’s take a closer look at each one.

  • Loyal Customer Base: A business with a loyal customer base has repeat customers who are satisfied with the products or services they receive. This type of customer is important because they help to generate recurring revenue for the company.
  • Passionate Employees: A company with passionate employees is one where employees believe in the mission of the organization and are committed to its success. These types of workers are engaged in their work and want to see the company succeed.
  • Positive Cash Flow: Positive cash flow means that a company has more money coming in than going out. This is an important metric because it shows that the business is able to cover its expenses and has money left over to reinvest back into the business.
  • Consistent Growth: Consistent growth means that a company is growing at a steady pace year over year. This is an important indicator of success because it shows that the business is expanding its reach and increasing its market share.
  • Profitability: Profitability means that a company is generating more revenue than it is spending.

Do You Think Your Business Plan Will Succeed Or Not Explain Why?

It’s no secret that a strong business plan is essential to the success of any business. But what exactly makes a successful business plan? And how can you create one that will help ensure your business’s success?

There are a few key elements that all successful business plans share.

  • First and foremost, a successful business plan must be clear and concise. It should lay out your business’s goals, strategies, and objectives in a way that is easy to understand.
  • Additionally, your business plan should be realistic and achievable. It’s important to set goals that you can actually reach, rather than setting unrealistic goals that will only set you up for disappointment.
  • Finally, your business plan must be adaptable; as your business grows and changes, so too should your plan.

If you’re not sure where to start when creating your own business plan, there are plenty of resources available to help you. There are numerous books and online articles on the subject, or you could even hire a professional consultant to assist you. However you choose to create your plan, just make sure it covers the key points outlined above; if it does, then you’ll be well on your way to ensuring the success of your new venture!

Why is It Important to Be Successful in Business?

There are many reasons why it’s important to be successful in business. Here are just a few:

  • Money. Obviously, making more money is a major motivator for most people. If you’re successful in business, you can make a lot of money.
  • Power. With success comes power and influence. You can use your position to make positive changes in the world or help others achieve their goals.
  • Recognition. Being successful in business can bring you fame and notoriety. People will look up to you and respect you for your accomplishments.
  • self-fulfillment. Achieving success in business can be extremely fulfilling and satisfying.

Reasons for Business Success And Failure

There are many factors that contribute to the success or failure of a business. While some businesses are able to thrive despite challenges, others quickly fold under pressure.

Ultimately, the ability of a business to succeed depends on a variety of factors, including the quality of the product or service, management and leadership skills, marketing strategies, and financial stability.

One of the most important factors in determining whether a business will be successful is the quality of its product or service. If customers are not satisfied with what they receive from a company, they will take their business elsewhere. In order for a business to be successful, it must offer products or services that meet the needs and wants of its target market.

Another key factor in business success is effective management and leadership. Without strong leaders at the helm, it can be difficult for a company to make sound decisions and stay on track. Leaders play an important role in setting strategy, motivating employees, and keeping everyone focused on achieving objectives.

In addition to offering a quality product or service and having strong leaders in place, businesses also need to have solid marketing strategies if they want to succeed. Marketing is how businesses communicate with potential customers and let them know about their products or services. If people are not aware of what a company has to offer, they will not be able to buy its products or use its services.

Finally, financial stability is another important element of business success (or failure). If a company does not have enough money to cover operating costs and invest in growth initiatives, it will eventually go out of business. It is important for companies to have healthy cash flow and enough reserves set aside so that they can weather tough times without going under.

In order to be successful in business, you need to have a few key qualities. First, you need to be able to identify opportunities and seize them. You also need to be able to work hard and hustle when needed. Finally, you need to be able to surround yourself with the right team of people who will help you achieve your goals. If you have these qualities, then you have a good chance of being successful in business.

Sadly it was little known that two men achieved this feat: one was British mountaineer Edmund Hillary and the other the Nepalese Tenzing Norkay. You can also suggest programs for schools to encourage regular exercise among their students better

Why You Need Sustainability in Your Business Strategy

Successful Business Sustainability Strategy

  • 06 Nov 2019

In today’s ever-evolving world, debating whether to incorporate sustainability into your business strategy is no longer an option. Considering a values-driven approach when developing business strategies can be vital to long-term success.

Before getting into why sustainability is essential to successful business strategies, it's important to define what sustainability in business is.

Access your free e-book today.

What Is Sustainability in Business?

In short, sustainability in business refers to the effect companies have on the environment or society.

A sustainable business strategy aims to positively impact one or both of those areas, thereby helping address some of the world’s most pressing problems.

Some of the global issues that sustainable business strategies help to address include:

  • Climate change
  • Income inequality
  • Depletion of natural resources
  • Human rights issues
  • Fair working conditions
  • Racial injustice
  • Gender inequality

Although it may sound like it, sustainability in business is not purely altruistic. As Harvard Business School Professor Rebecca Henderson notes in the online course Sustainable Business Strategy , you can't use business to do good in the world if you're not doing well financially. Doing well and doing good are intertwined, and successful business strategies include both.

Many of today’s firms have adopted the triple bottom line , which suggests that organizations should focus on more than just profits, or the “bottom-line,” and also measure their environmental and social impact. These focuses can be referred to as “the three Ps,”: people, planet, and profit. Quite often, this sustainable approach to business ultimately boosts business performance.

Why Is Sustainability Important?

In addition to driving social and environmental change, sustainability initiatives can contribute to an organization's overall success. It may seem counterintuitive that spending more money on sustainable business practices can boost a company’s profitability, but studies show that the most sustainable companies are also the most profitable.

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics are often used to determine how ethical and sustainable an organization is. According to McKinsey , companies with high ESG ratings consistently outperform the market in both the medium and long term. While sustainability strategies might be an investment in the short term, they can lead to long-term benefits.

Benefits of Sustainability in Business

1. you’ll protect your brand and mitigate risks.

Ending up on the front page because of a scandal is a CEO’s worst nightmare. Not only do improper practices damage an organization’s reputation and cost it customers, but dealing with a public relations disaster can divert valuable human and financial resources from the core business.

You don’t want to become the company that allowed an oil spill or forced employees to work in unsafe conditions. By instituting a sustainable strategy that protects the environment and your workers, you also protect yourself from any damaging incidents.

2. Being Purpose-Driven Is a Competitive Advantage

Sustainability doesn't detract from business goals, and infusing your company with purpose can help attract a motivated, skilled workforce that drives financial success . In a Facebook Live discussion , Henderson noted a recent study showing that 89 percent of executives believe an organization with shared purpose will have greater employee satisfaction. Additionally, 85 percent say they're more likely to recommend a company with strong purpose to others.

Making your company an organization that does good in the world—rather than just a place that provides a paycheck—can be a competitive advantage when attracting the best talent.

3. There's a Growing Market for Sustainable Goods

A 2019 study found that 73 percent of global consumers are willing to change their consumption habits to lessen their negative impact on the environment, and sustainable product sales have grown by nearly 20 percent since 2014. Millennials in particular are more willing to pay more for products that contain sustainable ingredients or products that have social responsibility claims. If your organization commits to sustainable products and practices, it could gain market share by converting sustainability-minded customers and increasing sales.

4. Cooperative Action Can Drive Change

As an individual, it can feel overwhelming, isolating, or simply impossible to effect change in a meaningful way. That’s not the case when the most innovative, successful, and powerful companies are collaborating to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems. While governments struggle to address public goods problems, purpose-driven companies working together to address these issues have experienced great success.

For example, palm oil is cheap, versatile, and found in about half of all packaged products, including soap, lipstick, and ice cream. But palm oil production has resulted in record greenhouse gas emissions and contributed to climate change.

In light of this, consumer goods producer Unilever committed to only using palm oil from certified sustainable sources in 2008. The organization cooperated with its competitors—as well as governments, NGOs, and indigenous peoples’ organizations—to lead an industry-wide adoption of sustainable palm oil. As a result, Unilever continues to be a thriving organization, and the world has reaped the environmental benefits of sustainable palm oil harvesting practices.

Business Success

  • Business & Management

Introduction

Successful businesses are the heart of a nation’s economy. Many factors lead to the success of a company. Understanding these factors will have a tremendous impact on how we view the success of a business. In my bid to understand what goes into making a business successful, I have compared and contrasted habits and practices between successful companies and unsuccessful companies. With extensive research conducted on the topic, I have established the methods and practices of making a business successful.

What Makes A Business Successful?

In a business, passion and determination are ultimately the pillars of success. If a company is eventually going to be successful, confidence is what will help it flourish. In the day to day running of a business, many unforeseen circumstances can disrupt the stability of a, and without determination, the moral of the business person may be affected (Kirkwood& Jodyanne 609). This may make him/her close down the entire business thus hindering success.

Before venturing in a business, it is essential that you choose a company whose operations you understand. This is very crucial and will save a lot of time and resources. Extensive research must be conducted on the chosen business idea so as to come up with an effective business plan. This research will also inform the business operator how to achieve success in the field. This ensures that any mistakes that could affect the stability of the business are recognized.

A solid strategy is also key to a business success. Strategy implements business planning and it is critical to plan out strategy by identifying what aspects of the business to focus on and also how to handle the competition. Such a strategy has been noted by business experts to lead to the future success of a business. In fact, the effectiveness of the strategy employed has been noted by business experts to de directly contrastable to the rate of success.

Money management is also key in the success of a business. Individuals who wish to start businesses must learn basic accounting or else they will mismanage their funds. Mastering finances can greatly improve the success of a business as any loses and expenditures will be balanced out (Kirkwood& Jodyanne 612). If proper accounting techniques are not applied, the results could be disastrous and may lead to bankruptcy. This goes to show how crucial money management is to the success of a business.

Factors to a Successful Business

The importance of a location to business is the cause of many arguments between business experts. However, a successful business has to put its location into consideration. The location arrived upon should be chosen after an assessment of various factors including the availability of customers, transport networks, security and the presence of competition. This factors are key to the success of a business and must be properly considered when starting up a business. In addition, the location of a business must be chosen in respect to the geographical area where its industry is based on. An example of this is the silicon valley where major tech firms are found in America, similar businesses being set up in one location enables the talents involved to move there creating a community around the business and in return nearly all business set up there will be successful.

The laws and regulations of the state or country the business is set up in must be carefully considered. If a business breaks the laws of the country it is set up in, then the success the business is compromised as the government could take up legal action against the company at any time. If a business however complies with the laws of the land, it becomes easier for the business to flourish and receive valuable services such as loans which may be instrumental in its success.

For a business to succeed, it must maintain an advantage over its competition. Competition has the capability of even closing down an entire business so identifying it and competing effectively could be the difference between success and failure (Kirkwood& Jodyanne 607). One has to be very cautious when going against his competition as there are laws in place to regulate competition and avoid certain actions may be deemed as criminal activities.

In the growth of a business, it is essential to partner with good experienced investors. Investors help in funding the expansion of a business and also dealing with unforeseen circumstances. Funding provided by the investor if used wisely can grow a business to unprecedented heights. An investor acts as a form of insurance helping the business owner in case of certain circumstances that may crumble the business especially if the business is not insured.

It is also highly important for a business owner to store up large reserves of money so as to better endure any mistakes that may happen in the future. Insurance can at times be unreliable and fail to cover certain mistakes this is why stored away money can be very reliable to a business. Lack of such a method of insurance can make the business succumb to an unprecedented circumstance.

Impacts of Education on a Business

Good education, especially in business management may greatly impact the success of a business. A business owner with such valuable experience knows the ins and outs of managing a business. Proper business management eventually causes a business to succeed (Scarborough & Norman 35). It is crucial for a good business to have an educated and capable staff. If a business owner does not have the right education required to run a business, to avoid any loses or entire failure of the business, it is crucial for the business owner to higher well educated staff so as to ensure effective running of the business.

A good business education not only teaches a person how to run a business but also how to interact with effectively with customers. Acquiring and maintain a loyal customer base is very important to the success of a business as customers directly affect the growth of a business. In order to effectively communicate with customers, etiquette is key (Kirkwood& Jodyanne 603). Customers must be treated in a very welcoming and appreciative manner even when they do not purchase anything. A basic education in sales will help the business administrator to understand the mentality of buyers thus know how to make sales effectively and how to arrange the business.

Business administration is also a good study course to help a business succeed. It also prepares the business administrator for success as he/she is already equipped with the tools required to run an expanding business. Without such education, running of multiple businesses is impossible unless an experienced employee is trusted with that role.

A good business education not only teaches one how to run an effective business, but also the psychological elements that help a business grow. Tasks as simple as arrangement of goods can help a business make more profit. There are various factors that ultimately affect the satisfaction of a customer and although some are physical, some are purely psychological (Scarborough & Norman 21). A good business education helps the business administrator determine the psychological factors that influence customer behavior and implement them to his/her business effectively.

Good education will not only prepare an individual for success, but also for failure. Most businesses fail before they eventually succeed and sometimes failure can lead to success. This is why a good businessman must never give up and must remain focused despite the challenge at hand. This determination is key in succeeding in a business venture and sets the difference between a good business and a poor business.

Mistakes That Prevent the Success of a Business

There are very many factors that could prevent the success of a business, understanding and avoiding them will help in a business’s quest to succeed. Failing to acquire investors can prevent the success of a business. Most people are not willing to give up a percentage of their business to investors (Scarborough & Norman 15). This fear is misplaced as businessmen and women are scared of losing control of the business. An investor will not be involved in a business unless both parties have reached an agreement. The funding provided by investors, when effectively used in crucial aspects of the business can lead to great success and also provide an edge against competition.

Running a big business can be a very tiresome task and finding qualified stuff can lead to success. It is also important to have adequate stuff so that the business can run efficiently. Most businesses who hold back on the number of employees lead to less customer satisfaction and this decreases the probability of the business succeeding. Employees must be assigned carefully and given a workload that will not affect their productivity. In addition, employees with no experience must be subject to training so as to improve their productivity.

Poor business management negatively affects the success of a business and can lead to the closure of the entire business. If the business owner does not have the required skills to effectively run his/her business, then it is vital that he employs someone with the necessary experience. If he does not do so, the success of the business may be unattainable.

The branding of a business must be done effectively as improper branding has the capability to tarnish an entire business. The branding of a business is instrumental to the success of a business (Kirkwood& Jodyanne 602). When branding, a business owner has to carefully think of his/her approach considering a lot of factors such as the main focus of the business, target market and social factors. Poor branding can greatly undermine the success of a business.

Lack of proper marketing and advertising can hold back the success of a business. If necessary, a business owner should consult an independent marketing and advertising firm so as to have proper advertisements that attract potential customers. Funding must be consistently put aside and dedicated to advertising as this is a continuous process. Advertising also has to be done consistently as competition arises every day and failure to do so could lead a business to lose its customers to another business.

How Failing Businesses Can Find Success

For a failing business to eventually succeed, great determination to succeed will greatly affect the results. A business owner should invest more time and thought to create effective strategies that will help change the status of the business. A business can in no way succeed if the owner is not willing to put an effort to its success.

If a business if unsuccessful due to lack of proper funding, success can be attained by the help of investors. The business owner ought to look for good investors who will provide funding in exchange for a percentage of the business. An investor can also provide more than just funding with most business investors having experience in making a business successful (Scarborough & Norman 15 ). This experience brought by the investor can be more helpful to the success of a business than funding, although both are very important.

A failing business must not underestimate the power of re-branding. Re-branding can ultimately be the cause of success as evident in a lot of businesses. For decades, re-branding has been a secret to success with most businesses that face initial failures finding later success due to proper re-branding (Scarborough & Norman 12). Customer opinion can effectively be shifted due to proper to the changing of a brand, it could open new possibilities and bring new customers to a business.

A business owner must conduct research continuously as customer requirements are always changing. He must strive to constantly keep up with the innovation of his competitors as well make innovations of his own to distinguish himself from competition (Kirkwood& Jodyanne 595). Research at some point should involve the customers and it is also important to get their feedback whenever possible as they are what keeps a business going.

Use of rewards and discounts is also a proven way to business success. This method has worked successful for many businesses over the years. Customers appreciate discounts and prospects of saving their money. In fact, this is arguably the best method of acquiring and retaining loyal customers. However, one has to be very cautious when issuing discounts so as not to incur loses.

A successful business is the joy and pride of any business owner but it takes a great deal of passion and commitment to make a business successful. It is however possible for even small businesses to attain high levels of success as certain methods have been proven to make a business successful. Business education can however make it easier for an individual to run his/her business more effectively and yield better results.

If the methods and approaches discussed here are implemented to a business, then the business will eventually succeed. Determination, proper strategies and good investors can change the success margin of a business and with greater levels of success being attainable in the contemporary world, the possibilities are unlimited (Scarborough & Norman 8). A business owner must retain his vision so as to persistently aim for the highest levels of success in his business. All business men must strive to attain success in their businesses as a good business is not only important to business men but also to the economy of a nation.

Success: How Do You Define It? Essay

Introduction.

Success is a word that all the human beings use a number of times during their social life. It is been used, discussed and researched frequently by the social scientists and psychologists. In this world so many people have been trying hard for success, many are achieving success, and others are not fortunate. They are doomed and buried in their endeavors to accomplish success. Many unfortunate have been perusing success for long years, but some are getting it almost suddenly without much hard work. Success is the very concept upon which many wars have been fought between countries and many innocent were killed.

Success to one man may be the dominion over another; to another man it may be his internal gratification. Often we consider the word success as the binary opposite of failure, and success of a person is measured largely based on the failure of someone else. Since all the words are only symbols and meaning is added to it later by general consensus, the word success also gets several meanings according to the context in which it is used.

The meaning of Success

The etymology of the word success says that it is derived from the Latin word ‘successus’ which means ‘an advance, succession, happy outcome’, and it is first recorded in 1586 (*5). The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines the term success as “the achievement of a desired aim, or of fame, wealth or social position” (*1). Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary gives the definition “favorable or desired outcome; also: the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence” (*2) Other dictionaries define success as “The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted [or] The gaining of fame or prosperity” (*3), “An event that accomplishes its intended purpose”, “A state of prosperity or fame” (*4) etc. so, all the dictionary meanings directs us to the meaning that success is achieving something; that may be money, fame or prosperity.

Many of the successful men in the world have endeavored to define the term success. Bessie Stanley defines success as follows:

He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who has never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it; who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; whose life was an inspiration; whose memory a benediction. (*6)

Here Stanley’s definition gives a big list as the parameter of success. Thoreau’s strong belief in self-reliance made him say that “I have learned that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. (*6). Thoreau is so much confident about the world and the capability of the human beings to advance steadily in life with their will power. Michel Korda echoes Thoreau when he says “To succeed, we must first believe that we can”. Ralf Emerson also thinks in the same line when he says “Self-trust is the first secret of success” (*6).

As we mentioned earlier, the meaning of success will be different to different people. It comes in many forms with many definitions. What an individual is searching in life, in business, or in business defines success for him. A sports star may have one definition of success, and a house wife staying at home may have quite a different definition. A film director seems to count his success by his film becoming a huge hit in the theatres, and a doctor may consider success from a surgery that succeeded. It largely depends on what perspective of life one has.

But apart from all definitions and quotes, success can be said as something that is formed as the finishing point of all the dreams. All the dreams make its end in success. Success cannot be treated as a mere word. For some people, it is all about fulfilling it in life. In the past, success of a person is counted in terms of his or her growing bank balance only, but today all those old concepts have changed. The all-inclusive materialistic mantras have given way to a holistic and positive attitude to life. Success is counted as a result of the synergy of various factors such as material, economical and spiritual satisfaction.

Abraham Maslow was a psychologist who tried to synthesis a large body of research on the topic, motivation. Maslow’s theories posited a hierarchy of human needs, which was divided into two sections; deficiency needs and growth needs. According to Maslow, the individual is ready to act upon the growth needs only after meeting the deficiency needs. The individual attains self actualization when all his growth needs are fulfilled. Maslow says that self-actualization is the ultimate aim of all the individuals’ life. Maslow’s self-actualization can be seen as another word for success.

Maslow’s self-actualization includes both material and spiritual concepts of success. A general misconception about success is that it encompasses only material prosperity. People think that the shortcut to success is to work hard, make a lot of money, and neglect or negate the inner life. Being successful spiritually doesn’t mean success. Instead, it is only a way to sainthood. Both these thought patterns leads someone to go astray.

Some cultures, for example Ancient Indian Culture, gave importance to spiritual success, and the result was growing poverty in the nation. The modern world with its globalization and modernization spirits gives importance to material success and the result is growing dissatisfaction and insecurity feelings even among these successful people. The ideal successful life is defined by many Ancient Indian philosophers as fullness in the outer, material world with that much fullness in the inner, spiritual world each reflecting, considering and supporting each other. So, an amalgam of these two patterns will give real success to a man.

It is not always what someone achieved decides how successful he or she is. In some cases those who are considered by the society as rich or successful may not consider themselves as successful. Rather than how much one has, it is ones attitude towards what he has decides his level of success. Some people think about their inferior sides only and consider themselves as total failures, however superior they are in other areas. A rich man having all the abundance in life may be thinking sadly about his children who are not brilliant enough to manage his wealth, or he may be worrying about his poor health. This is a peculiarity of the human mind. He will not be satisfied with anything in life. So, in this way no one will be labeled as successful.

From the experience of those who were successful in life, modern success trainers have deduced many tips to become successful in life. The first step to become successful in life is to identify ones heartfelt needs versus fantasies. Then focus on one thing at a time, and always be willing to admit need. One should show a strong commitment to accomplish that need. The next step is to prioritize the needs. One way to prioritize ones needs is to make a list of the things that one may do if one has only two days to live. Then think logically and set up a time limit for the most important things in the list.

Using visualizations of the set goals will increase the rate at which enthusiasm is generated in the mind. Cutting pictures related to the goals and putting them on the pin up board will help to boost enthusiasm. This enthusiasm changes the whole body chemistry, breaking down all mental blocks. Having a staunch belief in God will help to achieve goals and to be successful. One should have a willingness to receive ever without doubting ones worthiness is a quality that one should cultivate in their lives. Always ask to oneself “what should I do today to ahead towards my goal”. This conversation with one’s heart will help to create a strong mental energy to be successful in the deeds that one is involved in. The final tip for success is to surrender one’s little self to the true self, and go on with the plan.

Whatever definitions the word success has, or whatever ways are there to achieve it, true success is the achievement and realization of a valuable ideal that your heart has desired for and is connected to. It can be called as ones birth passion or success passion. People often tend to die for such passions. This is why some people explode out and do their maximum and come back successfully in life, and some others struggle all their life for it without any achievement. These two categories are operating two different spheres of success and action. Success is double and highly spirited when it is filled with emotion, boosted by passion, controlled by destiny and created with the fire of the heart. So, there is no success like the success where the heart is connected to it with the flames of passion.

One of the most popular scholarship essay questions is “Why do you deserve this scholarship?” Answering such a question can be difficult because you don’t want to sound too needy or greedy. Your essay must stand out from the competition while still being humble and appreciative. Check out these essay writing tips, along with a scholarship essay sample about why I deserve the scholarship.

Tips for writing a “Why do you deserve this scholarship?” essay

Your essay will be unique to your experiences, but there are some general guidelines you should follow. Here are tips for writing a “why I’m deserving scholarship” essay:

  • Explain how the scholarship money would contribute to your long-term goals. You’re asking the scholarship committee to invest in your future. They want to ensure their investment goes to a worthy cause. Explain how your education will play a role in your career and overall goals after graduation.
  • Focus on the purpose of the scholarship. While writing your essay, keep in mind what the scholarship is for and where it comes from. Tailor your response to the scholarship so it resonates with the review committee.
  • Don’t be afraid to promote yourself. This may be your only chance to tell the committee about your achievements. Showing your past success will instill confidence about your future success.
  • Use a thesis statement, just like you would with any other essay. You should refer back to the thesis throughout the essay and tie it into the conclusion. If you have trouble creating the thesis at the beginning, write the rest of the essay first. Read through, see what stands out the most, and then write an intro with a cohesive thesis.
  • When explaining obstacles in your life, focus on how you overcame them. Show that you’re a problem solver, able to persevere through any situation. You can mention difficulties from your past, but turn the attention to what you did as a result of them.
  • Avoid generalizations. Generic statements like “I deserve this because I am a hard worker” aren’t enough. Every applicant is a hard worker, has ‘good grades,’ etc. What makes you different, special and memorable? That should be the topic of your scholarship essay.
  • Support your statements with examples. Instead of saying, “I’m a hard worker,” say, “I upheld two jobs while I was in high school to support my family, and I still maintained a 3.75 GPA.” This is no longer a generalization. It is an achievement specific to your life and upbringing.
  • Use positive language. Phrases like ‘well-prepared,’ ‘qualified candidate’ and ‘specialized training’ showcase achievements in a positive light. Even in a negative situation, show the positive way you got through it.
  • Avoid words like ‘very’ and ‘really.’ You can typically find a one-word substitute that sounds more professional. Very hard turns into difficult. Very good becomes exceptional. Here is an excellent guide for modifiers that replace very .
  • Take a one-day break before you edit. Once you have a solid draft written, do not jump straight into editing. Wait a day before looking over your essay. This will let you read the essay with fresh eyes so you can catch inconsistencies, grammar mistakes, and more.

Example 1: Why I deserve this scholarship essay (100 words)

With a 100 word scholarship essay, you need to jump into the thesis as quickly as possible. There is not enough space for a lengthy introduction. Use concise language, and showcase your biggest achievements/goals. You should have enough sentences to break into two small paragraphs, though one may only be two to three sentences.

I believe I deserve this scholarship because I am an innovative problem solver. As the student council president, I helped re-organize my school library to better accommodate students’ needs. I worked with staff to categorize books to better reflect current school subjects.  I will use the same leadership mindset to obtain my business degree with a focus on project management. My goal is to work in construction management to increase efficiency in low-income housing development. With this scholarship and the need-based grants I will receive, I can complete my education and continue to solve problems within my community.

Example 2: Why I deserve this scholarship essay (250 words)

A 250-word scholarship essay usually consists of 4-5 paragraphs. The introduction can have a short lead-in, but it should arrive at the thesis quickly. The body paragraphs should support the assertion made in the first paragraph (the reason you deserve the scholarship). The conclusion should summarize the essay collectively, and it may include a statement of appreciation.

One of the most debated topics in America is how to provide affordable healthcare to the masses. I believe the answer lies in accessible healthcare providers. Nurse practitioners often go unappreciated and unrecognized for their versatility and value in the medical profession. With this scholarship, I could continue my training to become a nurse practitioner and provide attainable medical services to underserved communities. Growing up in a small Montana farming town, the closest hospital was 45 minutes away. The only local family doctor charged whatever he wanted because he was the sole provider. My parents relied on home remedies to treat any ailment my brother and I developed. This is when my passion for medicine first took form. Minimal medical care was not a concern until my father went to the hospital for severe stomach problems. These were the result of Crohn’s disease, a condition that can be managed with treatment. Because my father had not been to the doctor in years, the flare up was highly aggressive. It took months to get it under control and get him on preventative medication. I decided to go to college to help people like my father. As a nurse practitioner I can practice medicine without charging a fortune for my services. I plan to serve in rural communities where hospitals and doctors are limited or non-existent. I am grateful to be considered for this scholarship opportunity, and should I be selected, I will use it to advance my medical education.

Example 3: Why I deserve this scholarship essay (500 words)

With a 500-word scholarship essay, you have room to tell your story and create an experience for the reader. Use several introductory sentences to lead into your thesis and set the tone for the essay. The body paragraph should flow in a logical manner, most often chronologically. Then the conclusion should re-emphasize the thesis and leave the scholarship committee with something to remember.

Winston Churchill once said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” And while I never define my obstacles as ‘failures,’ I mark my success by my repeated perseverance through adversity. I have faced several challenges over the years, from dyslexia to homelessness; yet I continued to earn exemplary grades and graduate at the top of my class. I deserve this scholarship because I have the strength and determination to achieve my goals, no matter what hurdles I have to overcome. I was not born a gifted student. Testing and assignments were always difficult for me, whether I studied or not. In second grade, my parents had me tested for learning disabilities. The psychologist said that I had a hyperactivity disorder and prescribed medication to suppress my energy. After two years abiding by that treatment, I was re-evaluated and diagnosed with dyslexia. This helped me get the treatment I needed, and I finally made progress in school. Shortly after I learned how to study with dyslexia, my father lost his job. He was the sole breadwinner for the household, and I was soon on the street with my mother and two younger siblings. I got a job in newspaper delivery, one of the few fields that will hire a 12-year-old. My father found odd jobs to bring money to the family, and together we were eventually able to pay for a two-bedroom apartment to live in. I was valedictorian that school year, and I maintained a perfect attendance record. Like my father, I knew I had to do whatever was necessary to succeed and thrive. In high school, I developed an interest for psychology. I noticed patterns in behaviors, both in myself and in the people around me. I asked my child therapist, the one who officially diagnosed me with dyslexia, if I could work at his clinic over the summers. He allowed me to intern at his counseling center my junior and senior year, and I gained valuable insight into the business side of psychology. I am now entering the second year of my psychology degree. I plan to complete my bachelor’s degree and earn a Doctorate of Neuropsychology in the years that follow. My focus is on psychological testing, specifically for children with autism or learning disabilities. I spent years struggling in school because of a preventable misdiagnosis.  I want to ensure that other children do not face the same struggles in their future. Why do I deserve this scholarship? Because I have the passion and determination to become a trusted member of the psychological community. With my education, I can help children get the treatment they need at an early age, giving the best chance at finding their own success. You’re not just helping me get through college. You’re improving the quality of life for countless families to come. I appreciate your consideration, and I look forward to building a lasting relationship with your organization.
