Noise is defined as any unwanted sound and its pollution is the transmission of noise with negative impact on the human or animal. Noise pollution has multiple health effects mainly attributed to anthropogenic activity, even though the noise from natural sources like waterfalls, wildlife, frogs may exceed the stipulated legal standard of any given country/place. Noise pollution is an environmental nuisance and stressor. It affects both the auditory and non-auditory health. It modifies social behaviour, interferes in complex task performance and causes irritation. This chapter discusses common engineering technologies along with administrative interventions for noise pollution control.

Like water and air pollution, noise pollution plays a vital role for the degradation of the environment. Exposed to high level of noise will have detrimental effect to human health. In Indian society, noise is associated with many facets of life, for example, family ceremonies, religious ceremonies, community celebrations, partying and gathering, et cetera. Indian Constitution not only protects the rights related to freedom of speech and expression, but also protects the right to life which can be enjoyed the in its full extent when the environment is pollution free. For the control of water and air pollution the legislations, such as, Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 are available. Similarly, for the control of noise pollution the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 is also available in India. The present article examines the scope of in re noise pollution case regarding control and regulation of noise pollution in India.

Due to heavy urbanization, industrilisation, population explosion and thereby deforestation , ambient noise has increased to intolerable level in most of the places. Therefore it has been immensely felt to monitor the noise intensity, its various parameters and quality to reduce it within permissible levels and further to meet the international standard. Through this paper while using :Real time sound analyzer”, a sincere effort has been made to understand the basic causes and features of noise to study its impact on human beings and community as a whole. The noise level data in terms f SPL, Leq, SEL, Ln, Dose, frequency and time weighting average has been computed to statistically calculate the noise effect in real time and actual sense. It is found that noise level data observes a normal distribution curve in residential area of Chandigarh and it will help us to develop appropriate mathematical model. In this paper various recommendation and suitable control have been suggested to...

The main short-term effect of noise is stress. Its long-term effects could be physiological and psychological. It is also known to have effects on plants and animals besides humans. The chapter discusses the specific properties that help understand the physics of sound. These properties are sound power, sound intensity, and sound pressure.

1. Introduction. Environmental noise exposure ('noise pollution') is a key global public health concern, with implications for physical health, wellbeing, and mortality (Basner et al., 2014, Clark and Paunovic, 2018b, Basner and McGuire, 2018, van Kempen et al., 2018).Noise pollution is pervasive in many areas containing human populations, arising from transport, industry, and community ...
Noise pollution, an urban territorial phenomenon is assuming serious proportions in every city. The frequency and intensity of pollution has been increasing day by day. Noise pollution is an annoyance to human beings. The noise is usually machine-created sound that disrupts activity or balance of human's way of life.
Purpose - The study examines and investigates the problem of noise pollution in relation to its harmful effects on the human life. This study provides most appropriate definition of noise, identifies various sources of noise, investigates awareness level of public for noise, examines harmful effects of excessive noise and provides valuable suggestions for controlling the noise level.
