आदरणीय प्रधानाचार्य महोदय, उप-प्रधानाचार्य महोदय, माननीय शिक्षक गण एवं मेरे प्रिय साथियों। आज हिंदी दिवस के मौके पर मैं आप सबके सामने इस विषय पर कुछ पंक्तियां लेकर उपस्थित हूं और आशा करती हूं की यह आप सबको अवश्य रोचक लगेंगे।

हर वर्ष 14 सितंबर को हिंदी दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है और इस सप्ताह को हिंदी पखवाड़ा कहा जाता है। पूरे विश्व में सबसे जादा बोली जाने वाली भाषाओं मे से हिंदी चौथी है। आज़ादी मिलने के बाद, देश मे अंग्रेजी के बढ़ते उपयोग और हिंदी के बहिष्कार को देखते हुए हिंदी दिवस मनाने का निर्णय लिया गया।

14 सितंबर को 1949 को हिंदी को राजभाषा बनाया गया परंतु गैर हिंदी राज्यों ने इसका बहुत विरोध किया, जिसके कारणवश अंग्रेजी को यह स्थान मिल गया और तब से लेकर आज तक हिंदी के सर्वत्र विकास के लिये हिंदी दिवस मनाया जाता है और हर कार्यालय में हिंदी विभाग बनाया गया। ताकि हिंदी को जन-जन तक पहुंचाया जाए और हिंदी को भारत में राष्ट्रभाषा का सम्मान मिल पाए।

यहां उपस्थित सभी बड़ों को मेरा स्नेह भरा नमस्कार। आज मैं आपके सामने हिंदी दिवस के महत्व के बारे मे कुछ शब्द कहने के लिये उपस्थित हुई हूं और आशा करती हूं की यह आप सबको जरूर ज्ञानवर्धक लगेगी।

गांधी जी ने 1918 में हिंदी को राष्ट्रभाषा बनाने कि बात कही थी। जिस पर आगे चल कर 14 सितंबर 1949 को काफी विचार-विमर्श के बाद, हिन्दी को राजभाषा के रूप में संविधान में जोड़ा गया। परंतु गैर हिंदी राज्यों ने इसका जम के विरोध किया जिसकी वजह से, एक गैर भारतीय भाषा अंग्रेजी को भी भारत में दर्जा देना पड़ा और हिन्दी राजभाषा नहीं बन पाया। जिसकी देन है कि आज हमें हिंदी के उत्थान के लिए हिंदी दिवस मनाना पड़ रहा है।

हिंदी के बहिष्कार के बाद से 14 सितंबर को हिंदी दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाने लगा। और साथ ही साथ हिंदी सप्ताह का भी आयोजन किया जाने लगा। जिसके तहत निबंध प्रतियोगिता, भाषण, काव्य गोष्ठी, वाद-विवाद जैसी प्रतियोगिताएं कराई जाने लगीं, ताकि लोगों में इस भाषा के प्रति रुचि जागे और वे इन प्रतियोगिताओं में भाग लें और वे इस भाषा के ज्ञान को बढ़ाएं। साथ ही साथ सभी सरकारी कार्यालयों मे हिंदी विभाग का गठन किया गया जिसका कार्य कार्यालय में सबको हिंदी सिखाना और हिंदी भाषा के महत्व को बढ़ाना है।

इस समारोह में शामिल होने और हम सभी के लिए इसे और अधिक विशेष बनाने के लिए धन्यवाद। हमारे पब्लिकेशन हाउस पर हम 5वां वार्षिक हिंदी दिवस मनाने के लिए यहां इकट्ठे हुए हैं। यह हर साल 14 सितंबर को एक वार्षिक समारोह के साथ मनाया जाता है। यह दिन भारत के हिंदी भाषी राज्यों में उत्साह और उल्लास के साथ मनाया जाता है। यद्यपि हिंदी दिवस का जश्न भारत सरकार के सभी केंद्रों, कार्यालयों, स्कूलों और सभी संस्थानों में सरकारी वित्त पोषित कार्यक्रम है लेकिन हमारा कार्यालय इस अवसर को उत्साह के साथ मनाता है।

इसे मूल रूप से पूरी दुनिया में हिंदी भाषा की संस्कृति को बढ़ावा देने और प्रसार करने के लिए मनाया जाता है। इसका महत्व इस दिन आयोजित कार्यक्रमों, समारोहों, प्रतियोगिताओं और विभिन्न प्रकार के उत्सवों द्वारा प्रदर्शित किया जाता है। हिंदी दिवस को उनकी एकता और आम व्यक्ति की हिंदी भाषा आबादी के लिए एक वफादार अनुस्मारक के रूप में भी मनाया जाता है।

हमारा संगठन इस दिन के जश्न को बहुत महत्व देता है हालांकि हमारा पब्लिकेशन हाउस अंग्रेजी भाषा में अखबारों और पत्रिकाओं को प्रकाशित करते हैं लेकिन हम हमारी मातृभाषा हिंदी को अत्यंत सम्मान देते हैं क्योंकि यह हमारी राष्ट्रीय भाषा है। अब कृपया मुझे हिंदी दिवस की पृष्ठभूमि साझा करने की अनुमति दें! 14 सितंबर 1949 को भारत की संविधान ने हिंदी को भारत की आधिकारिक भाषा के रूप में स्वीकार किया था। यह निर्णय भारत के संविधान द्वारा स्वीकृत किया गया और 26 जनवरी 1950 को लागू हुआ। अनुच्छेद 343 के अनुसार देवनागरी लिपि में लिखा गया भारतीय संविधान ने हिंदी को आधिकारिक भाषा के रूप में स्वीकार किया। अब दो भाषाएं हैं, हिंदी और अंग्रेजी, जो आधिकारिक तौर पर भारत सरकार के स्तर पर इस्तेमाल की जाती हैं।

आप सभी को हमारे कार्यालय में पिछले एक महीने से चल रही प्रतियोगिता के बारे में पता होना चाहिए। हर साल हम कुछ दिलचस्प और जानकारीपूर्ण काम करते हैं। चूंकि हमारा खुद का पब्लिकेशन हाउस हैं इसलिए उत्सव और समारोह ज्यादातर शिक्षा के आसपास ही घूमता है। इस साल हमारा विषय ‘कबीर दास के दोहे’ (संत कबीर दास की कविताएं) है। प्रतिभागियों को कबीर दास की कविताओं पर शोध करके और नाटक, गीत, विभिन्न भारतीय नृत्य रूपों आदि के माध्यम से एक रचनात्मक और अभिनव तरीके से मूल रूप से प्रस्तुत करना था। हमने पिछले हफ्ते आयोजित समारोह में कई सहयोगियों से सराहना प्राप्त की। हम आज प्रतियोगिता के परिणामों की घोषणा करेंगे।

मुझे यह जानने में बहुत खुशी हो रही है कि अभी भी बहुत से लोग हैं जो हमारी भारतीय संस्कृति और परंपराओं को बनाए रखने में दिलचस्पी रखते हैं और हिंदी भाषा के महत्व को आगे बढ़ा रहे हैं। मैं यहां उपस्थित सभी लोगों से अपील करता हूं कि अपनी रोजमर्रा की जिंदगी में यथासंभव हिंदी भाषा का इस्तेमाल करें और लोगों के बीच इसे और अधिक व्यापक बनाए।

दुर्भाग्य से ‘हिंदी’ भाषा का महत्व धीरे-धीरे नीचे गिर रहा है। जो लोग हिंदी बोलते हैं उन्हें तथाकथित हाई क्लास सोसाइटी द्वारा संदेह की दृष्टि के साथ देखा जाता है। लोग सार्वजनिक स्थानों में हिंदी बोलते वक़्त शर्म महसूस करते हैं। हालांकि मैंने यह भी देखा है कि बहुत से शिक्षित लोग हिंदी में बहुत आत्मविश्वास से बातचीत करते हैं। मेरे संपर्क में कई लोग हैं जिनसे मैं जुड़ा हुआ महसूस करता हूँ जब वे हिंदी बोलते हैं।

हिंदी हमारी राष्ट्रीय भाषा है और हमें हमेशा भाषा का जितना संभव हो प्रयोग करते समय गर्व महसूस करना चाहिए।

आदरणीय प्रधानाचार्य महोदय, शिक्षकगण और यहां उपस्थित मेरे सहपाठी छात्रों आप सभी का इस कार्यक्रम में हार्दिक स्वागत है।

आज हिंदी दिवस के अवसर पर हमारे महाविद्यालय में इस विशेष कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया है। जैसा कि आप सब जानते है कि हिंदी हमारे देश की राजभाषा है और इसके सम्मान के उपलक्ष्य में हर वर्ष 14 सिंतबर को हिंदी दिवस मनाया जाता है क्योंकि हिंदी सिर्फ हमारी राष्ट्र भाषा ही नही बल्कि हमारे विचारों का सरलता से आदान-प्रदान का एक जरिया भी है। वैसे तो हर वर्ष साधरणतः इस दिन हमारे महाविद्यालय में कोई विशेष कार्यक्रम का आयोजन नही किया जाता था, परन्तु इस वर्ष से इस प्रथा को बदला जा रहा है और अब हमारे आदरणीय प्रधानाचार्य महोदय ने यह निर्णय लिया है कि अब प्रत्येक वर्ष इस दिन को बड़े ही धूम-धाम से मनाया जायेगा।

मुझे इस बात की काफी खुशी है कि आज के इस विशेष दिन इस कार्यक्रम में मुझे आप सब की मेजबानी करने का अवसर मिला है। आज के अवसर पर मैं आप सबके सामने हिंदी के महत्व और वर्तमान काल में इसके उपर मंडरा रहे संकट तथा इसके निवारण के विषय में चर्चा करना चाहूँगा।

जैसा कि हम सब जानते है कि हिंदी भारत की सबसे ज्यादे बोली जाने वाली भाषाओं में से एक है, वैसे देखा जाये तो हिंदी का इतिहास लगभग 1000 वर्ष पुराना है, परन्तु आधुनिक काल (1850 ईस्वी के पश्चात) में इसमें सबसे अधिक विकास हुआ। यह वह समय था, जब हिंदी भाषा में भारतेंदु और प्रेमचंद जैसे महान सूर्यों का उदय हुआ। इसके साथ भारत के आजादी में भी हिंदी भाषा का काफी महत्व रहा है, चाहे वह आजादी के लिए तैयार किए गये हिंदी नारे हो या फिर देशभक्ति कविताएं सभी ने देश की जनता के ह्रदयों में क्रांति की ज्वाला को भरने का कार्य किया। यही कारण था कि हिंदी को जन-जन की भाषा माना गया और आजादी के पश्चात इसे राजभाषा का दर्जा मिला।

हिंदी के उपर मंडराता संकट

वर्तमान समय में हम इस बात से इंकार नही कर सकते कि हिंदी के उपर दिन-प्रतिदिन संकट गहराता जा रहा है। तथ्यों और किताबी बातो के लिए यह ठीक है कि हिंदी हमारी राज भाषा है पर इस बात से हम सब वाकिफ है, हममें से ज्यादेतर लोग सामूहिक मंचो और जगहों पर हिंदी बोलने से कतराते है। लोग चाहते कि उनके बच्चे अंग्रेजी माध्यम के विद्यालयों में पढ़े और फर्राटेदार अंग्रेजी बोले। जो इस बात को पूर्णतः प्रमाणित करती है कि हिंदी हमारे अपने ही देश में दोयम दर्जे की भाषा बनकर रह गयी है। इस बात को लेकर मुझे आचार्य चाणक्य का एक कथन याद आ रहा है, जिसमें उन्होंने कहा था कि “कोई राष्ट्र तब तक पराजित नहीं होता, जब तक वह अपने संस्कृति और मूल्यों की रक्षा कर पाता है” उनका यह कथन वर्तमान भारत के परिदृश्य को बहुत ही अच्छे तरीके से परिभाषित करता है। जिसमें आज हम सभी में अग्रेंजी भाषा और अंग्रेजी तौर तरीके अपनाने की होड़ मची हुई है, जिसके लिए हम अपने मूल भाषा और रहन-सहन तक को छोड़ने के लिए तैयार हो गये हैं।

आज स्थिति ऐसी हो गयी है कि हमारे अपने ही देश में लोग हिंदी विद्यालयो में अपने बच्चों को दाखिला दिलाने में संकोच महसूस करते है। आज के समय में हमारे देश में अधिकतर माता-पिता चाहते हैं कि उनका बेटा पहले अच्छे से अंग्रेजी लिखना और बोलना सिखे। हमारे इसी रवैये ने हमारे अपने ही देश में हिंदी को दोयम दर्जे की भाषा बनाकर रख दिया है। हलांकि अब लोग इस विषय को गंभीरता से ले रहे है और हिंदी का महत्व समझने लगे है, जोकि हमारे देश और समाज के लिए एक अच्छा संकेत है फिर भी हम चाहें तो इसके लिए और बेहतर प्रयास कर सकते है।

हिंदी के उन्नति के लिए किए जा सकने वाले प्रयास

ऐसे कई तरीके है जिनके द्वारा हम लोगो को हिंदी का महत्व समझा सकते है और अपने देश को उन्नति के मार्ग पर और भी सरलता से ले जा सकते हैं।

हमें लोगो को यह समझाने का प्रयास करना होगा कि आप अपने बच्चों को अंग्रेजी अवश्य सिखायें पर एक दूसरी भाषा के रुप में ना कि प्राथमिक भाषा के रुप में यह सारी चीजे बचपन से ही करना आवश्यक ताकि बाद में आगे चलकर उन्हें सामूहिक मंचो से हिंदी बोलने में संकोच ना हो।
इसके साथ ही लोगो को अपनी इस मानसिकता को बदलने की आवश्यकता है कि अंग्रेजी ही आधुनिक समाज में सबकुछ है।
सामान्यतः लोगो में यह गलत अवधारणा आ चुकी है कि यदि बच्चे हिंदी माध्यम से पढ़ेगे तो वह कमजोर हो जायेंगे और जीवन में सफल नही हो पायेंगे, ऐसे लोगो को हमें यह समझाना होगा ज्ञान, ग्रहण करने वाले की क्षमता और एकाग्रता पर निर्भर करता है नाकि शिक्षा की भाषा पर, इसके विपरीत शोधों में यह देखा गया है कि मातृ भाषा में बच्चे किसी भी विषय को और अधिक तेजी से सीख पाते है।
इसके साथ ही सरकार को भी इस में प्रयास करते हुए अंग्रेजी माध्यम के विद्यालयों में यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहिए की अंग्रेजी के साथ ही वह हिंदी को भी बराबरी का स्थान मिले।

अपने इस भाषण के द्वारा मैं आप सबसे बस यही कहना चाहता हूँ कि हमे इस अंग्रेजियत की पीछे कुछ ऐसा भी नही पागल होना चाहिए कि हम अपने संस्कृति, विचारों और भाषा को ही भूल जायें। यदि अंग्रेजी ही तरक्की का पर्याय होती तो जर्मनी, जापान और इटली जैसे देश इतने विकसित नही होते, जोकि अपने मातृभाषा को शिक्षा के साथ ही अन्य क्षेत्रों में भी इतना महत्व देते है।

हम सभी अपने रोज़ मर्रा के जीवन में बहुत बार खाली समय का उपयोग नही करते है और समय को बर्बाद करते है। जब अपनी पढ़ाई के के दौरान अपना समय बर्बाद करते है तो उसका अर्थ है हम समय को नही अपनी जिंदगी को बर्बाद कर रहे है।

क्योंकि जब एक बार वो समय निकल जायेगा तो पछताने से फिर वापस नही आएगा। इसीलिए हमारे घर के बड़े हमसे कहते है कि समय को बर्बाद नही करना करना चाहिए क्योंकि ये अमूल्य है आप इसे खरीद नही सकते है।

मैं उन सभी छात्रों से कहना चाहता हूँ जो अपना ज्यादा समय इधर-उधर की चीजों में बिता देते है जिसकी कोई जरुरत नही है। बच्चों समय धन से भी ज्यादा कीमती है। क्योंकि धन खर्च होने के बाद कमाया जा सकता है लेकिन अगर एक बार समय निकल गया तो उसे कभी भी वापस नही लाया जा सकता।

ऐसे बच्चे जो अपने समय को बर्बाद करते रहते है वो अपने जीवन में कुछ नही कर पाते। उनके हाथ केवल निराशा ही लगती है। उनके घर वाले, आस पड़ोस के लोग उनको ताने मारते है और ऐसे बच्चों का जीना मुश्किल हो जाता है।

इसीलिए मैं आप सभी को आज के इस भाषण से जागरूक करने की कोशिश करूँगा कि आप सभी अपना समय बर्बाद न करे और अपने लक्ष्य को निर्धारित करके उसे पा सके।

दोस्तों बहुत से ऐसे छात्र होते है जो अपने जीवन में बिना किसी उद्देश्य और लक्ष्य के अपने समय को बर्बाद करते रहते है। उन्हें समय के अर्थ को समझना चाहिए और अपने अमूल्य समय को जाया नही करना चाहिए।

समय हम सभी के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है हमें प्रत्येक सेकंड का मूल्य समझना चाहिए और उसका उपयोग करना चाहिए। पढने वाले छात्रों को अपने समय को और भी ज्यादा इस्तेमाल करना चाहिए क्योंकि अगर आप अपने समय का सही उपयोग करेंगे तो आप अपने आने वाले कल में कुछ बन सकते है और अपने माता पिता का नाम रोशन कर सकते है।

लेकिन जो बच्चे अपना समय आलस्य, मौज़, मस्ती और खेल कूद में निकाल देते है और अपने लक्ष्य को पाने की भी कोशिश भी नहीं करते वो अपने जीवन में हमेशा असफल होते है चाहते वो कोई भी काम करे, क्योंकि उनको समय के मूल्य का पता नही है।

आप सभी ने ये कहावत सुनी होगी कि “अगर आप समय को बर्बाद करेंगे तो समय आप के जीवन को बर्बाद कर देगा।” दोस्तों ये कहावत जिसने भी लिखी थी बिलकुल सही लिखी थी। किसी भी व्यक्ति जिसको समय के मूल्य का ज्ञान नही है वो कभी भी सफल नही हो सकता।

दोस्तों हम बेकार की चीज के पीछे भागते है जिसका हमारे जीवन में कोई मूल्य नही है। समय निकल जाने के बाद बहुत से लोग पछताते है कि अगर मैंने ये काम सही समय पर किया होता, तो आज मेरे पास भी सब कुछ होता।

लेकिन अब पछताने से कोई फायदा नही क्योंकि समय कभी वापस नही आता। लोगो को इसका ज्ञान नही है कि समय ही सब कुछ है जो हमें धन, समृद्धि और खुशी दे सकता है। इसके लिए हमें अपने समय का सही से उपयोग करना है।

हम सभी जानते है हमें अपने समय का सही उपयोग करना चाहिए। लेकिन सवाल ये है कि हम अपने समय को कैसे बर्बाद होने से बचा सकते है? दोस्तों इसके लिए आप को कुछ नही करना है। बस आप को अपना लक्ष्य निर्धारित करने की जरुरत है।

बच्चों आप सभी को सोशल मीडिया जैसे – facebook, whatsaap, instagram, twitter आदि से दूर रहना चाहिए क्योंकि सोशल मीडिया पर हमें समय का पता नही चलता। और हम अपने अनमोल समय को सोशल मीडिया पर बेकार कर देते है।

आज कल के छात्र अपने समय को कोई महत्व ही नही देते है, वो अपने दोस्तों के साथ पार्टी, सोशल मीडिया पर टाइम पास और भी ऐसे बहुत से काम है जो वो करते है। हम लगातार अपने समय को बर्बाद करते रहते है लेकिन हमें ये एहसास भी नही होता कि हम अपने जीवन को बर्बाद करने में लगे हुए है।

वे कभी भी नहीं सोचते कि, वे क्या कर रहे हैं, किस तरीके से कर रहें हैं। यहाँ तक कि, उन्हें गलत तरीके से समय को बर्बाद करने का भी पश्चाताप भी नही होता। मेरा ऐसा मानना है कि इसमें उनकी ज्यादा गलती नही है।

क्योंकि उनको किसी ने सही तरीके से समझाया नही। शायद अगर उनको कोई ऐसा व्यक्ति मिलता जो उनको समय के सही ज्ञान के बारे में बताता तो वे भी सुधर सकते है।

दोस्तों मैं आप सभी से केवल यही कहूँगा कि हमें दूसरों की ग़लतियों से सीखने की जरुरत है। जैसे दूसरे लोग समय को बर्बाद करते है वैसे हम अपना समय बर्बाद न करे। क्योंकि अगर हमें अपने लक्ष्य को पाना है तो हमें अपने समय का सदुपयोग करना होगा।

इसके बावजूद भारतीय गणतंत्र के समक्ष बहुत सी चुनौतियां हैं, जो इतना समय बीत जाने के बाद भी जस की तस हमारे सामने खड़ी है।

देश की समस्याओं को दूर करने के लिए वर्तमान व्यवस्था में व्यापक बदलाव लाने की जरूरत होगी। भ्रष्टाचार लगभग हर समस्या की एकमात्र जड़ है। इसको अगर खत्म कर दिया जाए तो धीरे-धीरे बाकी सभी समस्याएं भी कम होने लगेंगी। देश की राजनैतिक व्यवस्था में भी सुधार की भारी जरूरत है। इसके लिए राजनैतिक दलों को अपनी कार्यशैली बदलनी होगी और कर्मठ तथा ईमानदार लोगों को राजनीति में आगे बढ़ाना होगा। लोकतंत्र के सभी स्तंभों यानी कि विधायिका, कार्यपालिका और न्यायपालिका को अपनी भूमिका का अच्छे से निर्वहन करना होगा।

इसके अलावा चौथा स्तंभ माने जाने वाले प्रेस को भी अपनी भूमिका ईमानदारी से निभानी होगी। हर आदमी लोकतंत्र का हिस्सा है और सबको अपनी भूमिका का निर्वहन अच्छे से करना होगा तभी भारतीय लोकतंत्र सच्चे अर्थों में सफल हो पाएगा वरना स्वतंत्रता दिवस और गणतंत्र दिवस पर दिए जाने वाले भाषणों में इससे जुड़े मुद्दे उठेंगे और उसके बाद फिर वर्ष भर लोकतंत्र में जनता पिसती रहेगी और रखवाले सोते रहेंगे। ऐसी स्थिति ना आ पाए इसलिए आइए हम सब आज यह प्रण लें कि संविधान के अनुरूप आचरण करेंगे और देश के लोकतंत्र को मजबूत बनाएंगे।

हां, गणतंत्र दिवस यानि 26 जनवरी और स्वतंत्रता दिवस यानि 15 अगस्त दोनों ही दिन आयोजन में तिरंगा फहराया जाता है और राष्ट्रगान गाया जाता है।

1 Minute Speech on Hindi Diwas In English

Good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a short speech on the topic of ‘Hindi Diwas’.

‘Diwas’ in Hindi refers to ‘Day’. Thus, Hindi Diwas refers to National Hindi Day, which is celebrated annually in India on the 14th of September.

According to Wikipedia, “Hindi Day is celebrated in India to commemorate the date 14 September 1949 on which a compromise was reached—during the drafting of the Constitution of India—on the languages that were to have official status in the Republic of India.” Thus, from this date onwards, Hindi has been recognized as one of the two official languages of India.

This is a festival that predominantly pertains to North India. This day is thus observed to be a national holiday with the government offices being closed in the spirit of celebrating this Hindi Diwas.

On this day various speech and writing competitions are conducted based on Hindi. The President of India also presents an award of appreciation to individuals who have contributed to Hindi.

Trump Stopped Speaking for 35 Seconds During NRA Speech?

There is no confirmed reason for the long pause. Some posts on X claimed Trump "froze" due to his mental decline, while others claimed his teleprompter stopped working. Trump himself said a 30- to 60-second period of silence was "standard" in his speeches where he used music.

On May 18, 2024, former U.S. President Donald Trump spoke at the National Rifle Association's annual meeting. Numerous clips went viral showing him appearing to pause for an extended period of time in the speech.

We received many queries from readers asking us to confirm video footage in which Trump appeared to "freeze" during his speech.

The posts on X shared a moment where Trump said, "… nation in the history of the world" and then paused as music began in the background. After about 30 seconds, Trump spoke again, "But now we are a nation in decline." During the pause, Trump looked to one side, frowned and shook his head a little.

The caption from one post stated: "WTF??? Trump just FROZE for a solid 30 seconds. This guy is clearly unfit to serve. He has mentally declined rapidly, and it's very clear. He needs to drop out of the race ASAP!"

The rapid response X account for the Biden-Harris campaign, @BidenHQ , shared the same moment with the caption , "Trump starts playing QAnon music during his bizarre slur-filled NRA speech."

The footage is indeed real. While speaking, Trump did abruptly pause and stand in silence as dramatic music played. After about 35 seconds, he began speaking again. We thus rate this claim as "True."

We confirmed the pause by looking at footage of the moment on C-SPAN . At the 1:29:50 mark, Trump says , "Together they help make America into the single greatest nation in the history of the world," when he stops and the recorded sounds of a piano begin. He then stands in silence for an extended period of time before saying, "But now we are a nation in decline. We are a failing nation. We are a nation that has the highest inflation in 58 years." As he resumes speaking, the dramatic music crescendos, with a violin accompanying the piano.

The reason for the pause is unknown. Some accounts on X claimed Trump was simply doing a "dramatic pause" before a "somber" part of his speech, while others said this was evidence of his mental decline. One post claimed Trump's teleprompter stopped scrolling and he had to wait for it to resume.

Trump addressed the rumors on Truth Social , accusing U.S. President Joe Biden's campaign of spreading the rumor that he "froze" and saying such a pause was "standard" in his speeches:

My Speech in Dallas this weekend at the NRA's "Endorsement of President Donald J. Trump," was attended by a Record Crowd of very enthusiastic Patriots. The Biden Campaign, however, put out a Fake Story that I "froze" for 30 seconds, going into the "Musical Interlude" section, when in actuality, the 30 to 60 second period of silence is standard in every one of my Speeches where we use the Music. Check out any of my Speeches! The reason they came up with this Disinformation is that Biden freezes all the time, can't put two sentences together, and can rarely find his way off the stage without help. Donald Trump doesn't freeze! It is a MADE UP Biden Campaign story, put out in a dying Newspaper that I never heard of, and every Reporter knows it, including the large group that was there….

On May 20, 2024, @BidenHQ responded to Trump's post: "Trump melts down over this clip we posted showing himself freezing on stage, claiming it's a "Fake Story". (He did, in fact, freeze on stage)."

Biden is 81 and Trump is 77, and throughout the 2024 presidential campaign they both have been subject to numerous rumors around their mental acuity due to their ages.

Former President Donald Trump suddenly stopped talking for more than 30 seconds during a speech at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Dallas, Texas over the weekend, leading the Biden campaign to capitalize on the speculation about whether his Republican opponent is fit for office.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee addressed gun owners after receiving the association’s endorsement, stoking fears of the Biden administration “coming for your guns.” Trump’s critics were quick to attack him, saying he froze during his speech and is unfit for office. His supporters said he paused for dramatic effect.

The campaigns’ sparring was the latest in a back-and-forth about both candidates’ ages and mental competency . Biden is 81 and Trump is 77.

Biden supporters say Trump “glitched”

The Biden-Harris HQ account on X, formerly Twitter, posted a 44-second clip showcasing Trump’s more than 30-second pause, criticizing his speech as “bizarre” and “slur-filled.”

An account called “Biden’s Wins,” with more than 362,000 followers, reposted the video saying, “Donald Trump just glitched out and froze at his rally tonight. He is clearly unfit for office. Retweet so every American knows Trump is senile.”

The Biden-Harris HQ account attacked Trump’s entire address, alleging the dramatic music playing in the background during Trump’s pause is a song favored by QAnon .

The Biden-Harris campaign’s post-Saturday was the second time it appeared to attack Trump’s competency over the weekend. On Friday, the account called Trump “feeble” after his podium shifted when he leaned on it at an event in St. Paul, Minnesota .

Trump says glitch story is “made up”

Social media users speculated Trump’s pause was due to a problem with his teleprompter, but Trump said that was not the case.

Trump said that the 30-second “period of silence” is a standard part of his speeches and that the Biden-Harris campaign was to blame for the “fake story” that he froze in a post on Truth Social .

“The reason they came up with this Disinformation is that Biden freezes all the time, can’t put two sentences together, and can rarely find his way off the stage without help,” Trump wrote. “Donald Trump doesn’t freeze!”

During his address Saturday, Trump promised to undo gun regulations passed during the Biden administration.

“In my second term, we will roll back every Biden attack on the Second Amendment,” Trump said. “Starting the minute that crooked Joe shuffles his way out of the White House.”

Microsoft wants to make Windows an AI operating system, launches Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft wants to bring generative AI to the forefront of Windows — and the PCs running it.

At a pair of keynotes during its annual Build developer conference this week, the company unveiled a new lineup of Windows machines it’s calling Copilot+ PCs, plus generative AI-powered features like Recall, which helps users find apps, files and other content they’ve viewed in the past. Copilot, Microsoft’s brand of generative AI, will soon be far more deeply integrated into the Windows 11 experience. And new Microsoft Surface devices are on the way.

We’ve rounded up all the major announcements from Monday and Tuesday here.

Volumetric Apps

Microsoft is bringing Windows Volumetric Apps — basically spatially aware, interactive VR apps — to Meta Quest headsets. Through a partnership with Meta, Microsoft says that it’ll deliver Windows 365 and local PC connectivity to Quest headsets, enabling developers to extend their apps into 3D space.

During Tuesday’s keynote, Microsoft showed off a digital exploded 3D view of an Xbox controller from the perspective of a Meta Quest 3 headset — a digital object the wearer could manipulate with their hands. “We’re deepening our partnership with Meta to make Windows a first-class experience on Quest devices,” Pavan Davuluri, CVP of Windows and devices at Microsoft, said during the demo.

Developers can sign up for a preview to receive access to Microsoft’s new volumetric API.

Copilot+ PCs

Copilot+ PCs are Microsoft’s vision of AI-first, flagship Windows hardware. All include dedicated chips called NPUs to power AI experiences like Recall. And they ship with 16GB of RAM minimum, paired with SSD storage.

The first Copilot+ PCs will pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips, which Microsoft claims delivers up to 15 hours of web browsing and 20 hours of video battery life. Chipmakers Intel and AMD are also committed to building processors for Copilot+ devices in partnership with a range of manufacturers, including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung.

Copilot+ PCs start at $999, and some are available for preorder today.

Surface Pro and Surface Laptop

Microsoft’s newly unveiled Surface devices, the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro, focus on performance and battery.

The latest Surface Laptop — available with a 13.8- or 15-inch display — has been redesigned with “modern lines” and thinner screen bezels. It lasts up to 22 hours on a charge and is up to 86% faster than the Surface Laptop 5, the company says. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and has a haptic feedback touchpad.

As for the new Surface Pro, Microsoft says it’s up to 90% faster than the previous-gen Surface Pro (the Surface Pro 9), and it sports a new OLED with HDR display, Wi-Fi 7 (and optional 5G) and an upgraded ultrawide front-facing camera. Also, its detachable keyboard — which has been reinforced with additional carbon fiber — now has haptic feedback.

Windows 11’s forthcoming Recall feature can “remember” apps and content a user accessed on their PC weeks or even months ago, for example helping them to find a Discord chat where they were discussing clothes they were considering buying. Users can use Recall’s timeline to “scroll back” to see what they were working on in the recent past and drill down in files like PowerPoint presentations to surface info potentially relevant to their searches.

Microsoft says that Recall can create associations between colors, images and more to let users search for practically anything on their PCs in natural language (not dissimilar to startup Rewind’s tech); developers will be able to improve Recall by adding contextual information to their apps. And Microsoft claims all user data associated with Recall is kept private and on-device — and not used to train AI models, importantly.

Here’s more from Microsoft: “Your snapshots are yours; they stay locally on your PC. You can delete individual snapshots, adjust and delete ranges of time in Settings, or pause at any point right from the icon in the System Tray on your Taskbar. You can also filter apps and websites from ever being saved.”

Image editing and live translations

There’s now more AI in Windows than ever and some of it exclusively on the new Copilot+ PCs.

A new feature called Super Resolution can restore old photos by automatically upscaling them. And Copilot can now analyze images to give users ideas for creative compositions. Through a feature called Cocreator, users can generate images and also ask the AI model to follow what they’re drawing to change or restyle the image.

Elsewhere, Live Captions with live translations translates any audio that passes through a PC — whether from YouTube or a local file — into the language of the user’s choosing. Live translations will initially support around 40 languages, including English, Spanish, Mandarin and Russian.

A separate but related new feature in Microsoft Edge offers real-time video translation on sites like LinkedIn, YouTube, Coursera, Reuters, CNBC, Bloomberg and more. Set to become available in the near future, the feature — which supports the translation of Spanish into English and English to German, Hindi, Italian, Russian and Spanish — translates spoken content through both dubbing and subtitles live.

Team Copilot and extensions

Team Copilot is the latest expansion of Microsoft’s growing Copilot suite of generative AI tech. It integrates with Teams, the company’s videoconferencing app, to help manage meeting agendas and take notes that anyone in a meeting can co-author. And it extends to Loop and Planner, Microsoft’s collaboration and planning platforms, to create and assign tasks, track deadlines and notify team members when their input’s needed.

In somewhat related Copilot news, Microsoft has launched (in private preview) Copilot Extensions , which allow developers to extend GitHub’s code-generating tool GitHub Copilot with third-party apps and skills. Launch partners include DataStax, Docker and LambdaTest; extensions will live in the GitHub Marketplace, but developers will also be able to create their own private extensions to integrate with their internal systems and APIs.

Windows Copilot Runtime

Powering capabilities such as Recall and Super Resolution is the Windows Copilot Runtime, a collection of ~40 generative AI models that make up what Microsoft describes as “a new layer” of Windows. In tandem with the semantic index, a vector-based system local to an individual Copilot+ PC, the Windows Copilot Runtime allows generative AI-powered apps — including third-party apps — to run without necessarily needing an internet connection.

“[The runtime] consists of ready-to-use AI APIs like Studio Effects, Live Captions translations, OCR, Recall with user activity and [more], which will be available to developers in June,” Davuluri said on Tuesday.

Microsoft says that CapCut, the popular video editor from TikTok owner ByteDance, will use the Windows Copilot Runtime and accompanying new Windows Copilot Library, a set of APIs and AI dev tools, to speed up its AI features. And Meta will add the aforementioned Studio Effects to WhatsApp to deliver features such as background blur and eye contact during video calls.

Upgraded bot builders

Azure AI Studio, the toolset within Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service that lets customers combine an AI model and build an app that “reasons over” that data, will soon allow developers to create apps using pay-as-you-go inference APIs — the APIs through which developers can access and fine-tune generative AI models hosted on Azure infrastructure. Microsoft calls this “model-as-a-service,” and it’s launching with models from Nixtla and Core42 to start.

In the adjacent Copilot Studio product suite, Microsoft is launching Copilot agents, which the company describes as AI bots that can “independently orchestrate tasks tailored to specific roles and functions.” (Copilot Studio provides tools to connect Copilot for Microsoft 365 , the AI-powered “copilot” in apps like Excel and Word, to third-party data.) Leveraging memory and knowledge of context, Copilot agents can navigate various types of business workflows, learning from user feedback and asking for help when they encounter situations they don’t know how to handle.

Snapdragon Dev Kit

There’s a new dev kit from Qualcomm aimed at developers building apps for Arm-chip-packing Copilot+ PCs

The $899.99 Snapdragon Dev Kit for Windows — which measures around the same width, height and length as Apple’s Mac Mini, incidentally — houses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chip paired with 32GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and lots of I/O. The Dev Kit supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, and, via its various USB-C and HDMI ports, it can drive up to three 4K monitors at once.

Microsoft announced an addition to its generative AI model family Phi, Phi-3-vision, that can do general visual analysis and reasoning tasks, such as answering questions about charts and images. The model can read both text and images and is efficient enough to run on a mobile device.

Phi-3-vision is available in preview, while the model’s previously announced text-only counterparts — Phi-3-mini, Phi-3-small and Phi-3-medium — are now generally available.

Partnership with Khan Academy

Microsoft is teaming up with Khan Academy to donate access to cloud compute infrastructure, allowing Khan Academy to offer educators in the U.S. free access to Khan Academy’s AI-powered tools. The two companies will also collaborate to explore opportunities to improve AI apps for math tutoring through generative AI, Microsoft said on Tuesday.
