How it works

Growing up in a town with a rich football tradition is difficult, every parent wants to see their child grow up through the school district, and shine under the lights on Friday evenings. Even growing up in the township meant going to one of the two high school games every Friday night, watching on from the stands wishing you could be one of the starting 11 players out on the field. The tradition motivates you to be the best that you can, and to live the dream of being a varsity football player.

However, no athlete can fulfill this dream without hard work and determination. From personal experience, I know that football doesn’t always go your way, but you must learn to never give up.

In fifth grade, I learned right away that not everyone was cut out to be a football player. I didn’t play all that much in the fifth and sixth grade and would only go in every few plays. I was considered the ‘bench-warmer’ of the team. I knew that I wasn’t as good as the other players on my team, but I didn’t let that bother me. I still went to practice, I still ran my sprints, and I still tried to apply myself as being the best teammate I could be. My parents would ask me if I wanted to go to practice, knowing that I didn’t have a big role on the team, and I would always go anyways. My coach at the time would always push me to be better, and would always tell me to “strive for perfection”. I knew that he saw some potential in me, but I never would have guessed that my 5th and 6th grade coach would have such a big impact on me later in life.

In middle school, I decided that I would sit out my 7th grade year and I wasn’t sure if I would play football again. I wasn’t as big or as fast as the other football players in my grade, and I wasn’t sure if I was cut out for football. Then, I remembered the sense of honor that I felt when putting on my jersey in the 5th/6th grades and I decided that I needed to come back and play in the 8th grade. I was the last string wide receiver in 8th grade, which meant that I saw limited time. The lack of playing time didn’t bother me though, because I knew that some kids were just naturally better than me. I knew that the only way that I was going to play was by hitting the weight room and increasing my speed.

My freshman year was when I really started to realize my purpose in football. My freshman year of football began while I was still attending middle school, solely because I would workout with the varsity football team everyday after school. While working out, I always used my lack of playing time as motivation to work harder. I promised myself that year that I would start on the freshman squad, and would finally get a chance to showcase my talents.

The practices were increasingly hard compared to middle school, but I wasn’t phased and managed to start in the first game that year. I played cornerback and outside linebacker as a freshman. Starting as a freshman was a big deal for me, but it didn’t compare to my ultimate goal of playing on the varsity squad that I grew up watching for so many years. My sophomore year went much like my freshman year, except I would now be practicing with the varsity squad while playing on the junior varsity team.

The players on the varsity squad seemed like giants, and set the bar very high. I was working towards being one of them, and I knew that if I wanted to be like them I would have to work as hard as them on and off the field. Playing junior varsity also meant walking out with the varsity team on Friday nights, I could sense the pride from the locker room, to the pre game speech, to the National Anthem being played just before kickoff. I enjoyed playing on the junior varsity squad, it was where all my friends were playing and it was the first time I really enjoyed playing football. The following year was my junior year of football, and I finally started to get reps with the varsity defense.

I played outside linebacker for yet another year, along with three other seniors. We lost many coaches that year, however like a ghost from the past my fifth/sixth grade coach came to coach the varsity squad. It was very surreal seeing him come to my varsity practices , the same way he did when I was just 12 and 13 years old. The entire offseason going into the season of 2013, he coached my like he had done before. Finally, it all paid off when I played in my first varsity game in front of thousands of fans including my parents, peers, and coaches. I felt that sense of pride that I had been wishing to feel ever since I first became familiar with varsity football.

Everyone wants to strive to be the best that they can be, and that’s what I did. I worked hard to make sure that I would get my chance to show what I could do. Playing varsity football seemed like a monumental goal to me, but bit-by-bit i achieved what I had been chipping away at for years. Most importantly though, I feel like I can sense the pride from my parents, knowing that their son is doing something that not many teenagers can say they do. As I continue to play football for my high school, I will never forget the pride and tradition that comes along with it.

Table of Contents

Football, also known as soccer, is a sport that has captured the hearts of millions around the world. It is a game that is not only physically demanding but also emotionally charged. A football match is an event that brings people together, ignites passion, and creates memories that last a lifetime. In this essay, we will explore the three main aspects of a football match that make it such a thrilling experience.

Before the match begins, the stadium is filled with an electric atmosphere as fans eagerly await the start of the game. The excitement is palpable, and the air is filled with chants, cheers, and the occasional roar of a vuvuzela. Fans dress up in their team’s colors, wave flags, and hold up banners to show their support. The anticipation builds as the players make their way onto the pitch, and the crowd erupts into a deafening roar.

Once the match begins, the players take center stage, displaying their physical prowess and skill. The game is fast-paced, and the players are constantly moving, running, and tackling. The players’ agility and coordination are on full display as they dribble past defenders, shoot for goal, and make crucial passes. The physicality of the game is also evident, with players often clashing into each other and battling for the ball. It is a spectacle to behold, and the crowd is captivated by the players’ performance.

The emotions and reactions of the crowd and players after the match’s outcome is determined.

The outcome of the match determines the emotions and reactions of both the crowd and the players. If the home team wins, the stadium erupts into a frenzy of cheers, chants, and celebrations. The players embrace each other, and the joy on their faces is evident. On the other hand, if the home team loses, there is a palpable sense of disappointment in the air. The crowd falls silent, and the players are dejected, knowing that they have let their fans down. Regardless of the outcome, a football match always elicits strong emotions and reactions from both the crowd and the players.

In conclusion, a football match is an incredible experience that brings people together and creates lasting memories. The excitement and anticipation before the match, the physical intensity and skill displayed by the players during the game, and the emotions and reactions of the crowd and players after the match’s outcome is determined are all part of what makes a football match so thrilling. It is a sport that transcends borders and unites people from all walks of life.

The excitement and anticipation of the crowd before the match.

Before the match begins, the crowd is buzzing with excitement and anticipation. Fans arrive at the stadium hours before kick-off, wearing their team colors and waving flags and banners. As the players warm up on the pitch, the noise level in the stadium increases, with chants and songs ringing out from the stands. The atmosphere is electric, and you can feel the tension building as the start of the match draws closer.

The physicality and intensity of the players during the match.

Once the match begins, the players take to the field with a fierce determination to win. The physicality of the game is on full display, with players jostling for position, making tackles, and sprinting up and down the pitch. The intensity of the game is palpable, with every pass, shot, and save eliciting a roar of approval or disappointment from the crowd. The players push themselves to the limit, knowing that every moment could be the difference between victory and defeat.

The jubilation or disappointment of the fans at the end of the match.

At the end of the match, the emotions of the fans are on full display. If their team has won, there is a sense of jubilation and celebration, with fans hugging and high-fiving each other, and singing victory songs. If their team has lost, however, the mood is somber and disappointed, with fans leaving the stadium quietly, heads bowed in defeat. The outcome of the game can have a profound effect on the fans, who invest so much of their time, energy, and emotion into supporting their team.

In conclusion, a football match is a complex and multifaceted event, filled with excitement, passion, and drama. The researcher started playing the game at the age of 7 where he uses to play with friends who have similar kinds of enthusiasm towards the sport. They continued to play in the same manner for the next three years forming a team where all the players were from their own locality and almost similar to one another in terms of age. They used to play matches with teams of other locality. Those days have kept the author engaged in watching as well as playing the football game. His concentration towards studies trembled up to an extent that showed in his academic performances.

However, the researcher must mention that he cared a little about these aspects during those days. His interest and enthusiasm for the game augmented rapidly in course of time and it continued likewise till he was 12 years of age. It was the last week of the summer of 2005 and the weather was best suited for playing the game of football. Every year during this time, the local authority organizes a soccer competition inviting teams from various regions of the district. It was one of the most prestigious and followed football competitions in the district.

Their team was aspiring to participate in this event since a longer tenure but was unable to do the same because of their age which does not match up the eligibility criteria which allows the age group of 12-15 years. That year their team was about to participate in the competition owing to the aspect that there was no age barriers for us anymore. The researcher’s first match was scheduled on the 3rd day of the competition with one of the toughest and most competitive teams of the tournament.

His teammates were worried about this fact but the author had some feeling altogether. The researcher was not aware of what his teammates were felling about the match but for him, it was probably an all-new experience awaiting. There are some reasons owing to which the author depicted this match as an experience. This was the first he was about to play a football match in front of thousands of spectators coming from various regions of the district. This was also about to be the first moment when his game would be aired on the local television network.

The D-day arrived and expectedly, thousands of spectators gathered to witness the match and the local television network was also about to telecast the same. A feeling of nervousness and anxiety was running through the author’s head. As they walked into the stadium, the roar of around 4 thousand spectators’ altogether greeted them. Although, the capacity of the stadium was quite less as compared to a usual national and international football grounds, for the researcher, the cheer of this handful number of spectators gave the feeling of playing in front of millions.

The match started with a kick on the ball from the opposition team. With the passage of time, the enthusiasm of the spectators augmented considerably. The researcher must mention that his performance throughout the match was mediocre and was unable to put the ball into the net on a single occasion. The match ended as a draw, where both the teams were scoring one goal each.

How Football is Played

Football is played by two teams. Each team has eleven players. The game is played on a large rectangular-shaped grass field. There are two goalposts on both ends of the breadth of the field. Players pass the ball to each other by kicking or heading it into the opponent’s goalpost. The players have to play the game by kicking the ball and passing it to teammates. Only the goalkeeper can stop the ball with hands within a restricted area around the goalpost. The objective of the team is to score more goals than their opponent team. The team scores a goal when the ball passes the goal line. The game is played for two 45-minute halves, and the team which makes the most goals wins.

Football is a team sport. The player’s brilliance to score the goal helps their team to win. Tackle, attack, shoot, and score past the goalpost are collective skill sets of champion players. The sport has seen some of the best players over decades. Some famous players are Pele, Diego Maradona, George Best, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi.

Football in India

In India, various sports are played. Football is one of them. Although it has not got as much popularity as the other sports, now people have started taking interest in it. The people of Kerala, Goa, West Bengal, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim and other states have started playing football. Britishers introduced the football game in India. Initially, the game was played between the army teams. The game became famous when Indian footballers won the IFA-Shield Trophy in 1911. This is for the first time an Indian team won a tournament match before that only the British teams used to win the game.

India has evolved from a single sport nation to a multisport nation. However, to improve the participation of people in sports like football, there is a need to provide more resources and sports infrastructure. People should be encouraged to participate in football by providing them with proper training, mentorship and guidance. Government should promote the players who perform well at the state level by giving them a secured job or helping them financially, so they focus more on sports.

Essay On Football

Football is played by 11 players on both sides in order to put the ball into the opposing goal. To play the game, players can use any part of their body except their arms or hands. Only the goalkeeper is permitted to use his hands to touch the ball. The goalkeeper is the last line of defence, and his sole responsibility is to prevent the ball from entering the net.

The team is made up of three parts: attack, midfield, and defence. The game is a test of stamina, skill, and, most importantly, teamwork. The goal is to score as many goals as possible within the duration of 90 minutes. The team with the maximum number of goals at the end of regulation time wins.

Football's first rules and regulations were written down in England in the late 1800s. The game has evolved since then. To keep up with the game, the playing style became much more complex, and more rules were added. Football is now one of the most-watched sports on the planet. The modern game of football is made up of attackers, who lead the entire team, and midfielders, who form the team's core and serve as the link between the forwards and defenders. Defenders defend against opposition attacks and protect the goal. Different formations, strategies, tactics, and techniques emerged over time, making the game more fun and interesting.

It is the coach's or the manager's responsibility to manage the entire squad. The coach may make three substitutions during a 90-minute game divided into two halves. A total of four referees oversee the entire event, including one referee, two linesmen, and a fourth official. It is the responsibility of the referees to ensure that the game runs smoothly, and the referee's decision is the final word in any case. Football is popular all over the world because of the zeal with which its players play the game. It is not an easy task to play football for a total of 90 minutes. It takes a lot of stamina as well as world-class ball control and mastery.

Professional footballers are extremely dedicated athletes who start playing football as a child and are scouted by big clubs that train them in world-class facilities. To perform on the world stage, the players must master the ball and have a brilliant footballing mind. These are not easy skills to master and necessitate years of dedication and practice.

Football Players | Pele, Maradona, Johan Cryuff, and Ronaldinho are some of the greatest footballers of all time. The current football era is dominated by two all-time greats, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. There are many heated debates about who is better, but one thing is certain: both are professional athletes with great desire and discipline.

FIFA World Cup | The FIFA World Cup, which takes place every four years, is the most important international tournament. The final event is attended by 32 countries who qualify for it. Only one team is crowned World Champion at the end of the competition. France won the World Cup in 2018 under the direction of Coach Didier Deschamps. As of 2022, the FIFA world cup was held in Qatar and the final match was won by Argentina. The four qualifying teams for the finals of FIFA 2022 were Argentina, Croatia, France and Morocco.

Popular Teams | Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, AC Milan, and many other clubs are among the best in the world. Spain, England, France, Italy, and Germany are the top five footballing nations, as determined by the popularity of their leagues, and their respective leagues are La Liga, Premier League, France Ligue 1, Serie A, and Bundesliga.

Story Of Christiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo who is sometimes also referred to as the greatest of all time revealed that his mother wanted to abort him because of poverty, his father's alcoholism, and having too many children already, but her doctor refused. Ronaldo grew up in a low-income family. He went on to become the club's first player to play for the under-16, under-17, and under-18 teams, and first teams, all in the same season. It takes a lot of stamina as well as world-class ball control and mastery. A good game sense is also required to perform well on the pitch.

Football requires a high level of physical fitness. The players must run and stay active until the end of the game. They must chase the ball and intercept opposing players at all times; they must defend their goals at all times. Head balls, chest passes, rabonas, and scissor kicks are all artistic techniques. To play the game, players can use any part of their body except their arms or hands. Only the goalkeeper is permitted to use his hands to touch the ball. The goalkeeper is the last line of defence, and his sole responsibility is to prevent the ball from entering the net. Professional football requires a great deal of dedication and discipline. Talented players are scouted when they are young, and they are trained in academies for several years before being scouted by bigger clubs based on their performance.

Football is one of the most popular games in the world, though in India, cricket is more popular. It is perhaps because of this craze for cricket that India lags behind in football, although she has demonstrated a number of times that she can to be a big nation in all kinds of sports only if a little more enthusiasm for this game is shown by the Indian government and people.

Last week, a District Schools football tournament was organised by our District Godavari Club. The tournament was held in the playground of the local government school. The inaugural match was played between our school team and the local Spring Dale Public School team. Mr. Amandeep was the Captain of our school football team.

The match started at almost 11.30 am. It started two hours behind schedule because of rain.

It was a closely contested match. It seemed to be a no-win match for either team. Till the end of the first half, both the teams were goalless.

However, our school boys upped the momentum in the second half and managed to pierce the rival defence in 45th minute. There was a wave of rejoicing in our school team and our school students who were witnessing the match.

Then, there was suddenly a note of dismay when in the 47th minute, the rival team also scored a goal.

It appeared that the match would end in a draw. However, Rajat of our school team scored the second goal in the tie-breaker and this is how our school team won the match.

World Cup Football-2006

The biggest sporting tournament of the world, the 18th FIFA (Federation International de Football Association) Football World Cup 2006, was declared open by the German President, Horst Koehler in Munich (Germany) on June 9, 2006. The spectacular event was witnessed by a 60,000-strong audience in the Allianz Arena of Munich as well as by hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide on the television. For the first time in the history of the mega event, every living member of the past World Cup-winning teams was present at the opening ceremony. More than 100 former players took part in a parade during the event. The tournament was played from June 9 to July 9, 2006.

In the final of the tournament played between Italy and France, in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin (Germany), on July 9, 2006, Italy defeated France (5-3) in a penalty shootout to win the trophy. This was the fourth World Cup victory for Italy, the previous ones being in 1934, 1938, and 1982. Only Brazil with five wins, has more World Cup victories than Italy. The tournament once again proved that European teams dominate on European soil, while South American teams dominate on non-European soil, a law broken only once with Brazil’s win at the 1958 FIFA World Cup in Sweden.

The World Cup 2006 also marked the return of the dominance of the original superpowers of the game, and proved that the Korea-Japan World Cup 2002 was nothing but an aberration as two of the last World Cup’s four semifinalists—Turkey and South Korea could not even make it to the second round.

Italy beat France 5-3 on penalties in the World Cup final after the two teams finished level at 1-1 after extra time in a dramatic encounter in which French playmaker Zinedine Zidane was sent off. It was only the second shootout at a World Cup final. Brazil beat Italy on penalties after a 0-0 draw in 1994. Germany took third place beating Portugal 3-1 on two sensational goals by Bastians Schweinsteiger. He also set up the third, when his free kick was deflected in for an own-goal by Portugal’s Armando Petit.

Over 30 days of excitement and thrill saw 32 teams playing in 64 matches. A sum total of 147 goals were scored in the 64 matches with an average of 2.3 goals per match in this edition of the World Cup while 161 goals, at an average of 2.52 goals per match, were scored in the 2002 edition. Miroslav Klose of Germany, with five goals to his credit, was the top scorer in the tournament for which he was awarded the ‘Golden Shoe’ award.

In 2010 the FIFA World Cup will be hosted by South Africa. Matches for the 2010 tournament will be staged in 10 stadiums, in nine South African Cities.

Last month I saw an interesting football match. It was played on the Public grounds, between the S.M. School and B.N. School. There were countless spectators. There were students from both schools. The match started at 4 p.m., and Mr. Sriram acted as the referee. The teams entered the field, at the sound of the whistle. There were loud cheers. The players wore their respective uniforms. They looked active and smart.

The game was fast from the start. The forwards of the S.M. School team combined well. They were in complete control of the ball. They made many attacking moves. They tried to kick the ball into the goal of the B.N. School many times. The B.N. School played a very defensive game. Their goalkeeper did his job extremely well. He defied every at- to tempt to score. But still, the forwards of the S.M. School found a gap and scored a goal. There was jubilation in the crowd. Soon it was half-time.

The players of both teams were served with light refreshments. Soon the players regained their lost spirits. After the interval, both teams played with renewed vigor. The B.N. School played a good game. But they were against a superior team. The B.N. School players pressed very hard but they were unable to score. The game did not slow down till the last minute. However, the S.M. School team won by a single goal. It was creditable on the part of the B.N. School team that they were able to restrict the score.

The players of the S.M. School were carried on the shoulders by their school-maters. The students were wild with joy. I enjoyed the match very much. The better team won the match.

500 Words Essay on Soccer Game

The history and evolution of soccer.

Soccer, also known as football in many parts of the world, is a sport that has existed in various forms for over two millennia. The modern game we recognize today was formalized in England in the mid-19th century, but its roots trace back to ancient civilizations like China, Greece, and Rome. The universal appeal of soccer lies in its simplicity, requiring only a ball, a field, and two teams ready to compete.

The Rules and Structure of the Game

A standard soccer match is played by two teams of 11 players each, including a goalkeeper. The game is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The objective is to score more goals than the opposing team within the 90-minute timeframe, divided into two halves of 45 minutes each. The game’s rules, maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), govern aspects such as fouls, offside, throw-ins, and penalties.

Strategy and Tactics in Soccer

Soccer is not just a physical game but a cerebral one as well. Teams employ various strategic formations, like the 4-4-2, 4-3-3, or the 3-5-2, to maximize their strengths and exploit the opposition’s weaknesses. Tactics can vary from fast, direct play to a slower, possession-based approach. Managers and coaches play a pivotal role in devising these strategies, making soccer a fascinating blend of individual skill and collective strategy.

The Cultural Impact of Soccer

Soccer has a profound cultural impact worldwide. Major tournaments like the FIFA World Cup unite nations and create a sense of shared identity. Soccer clubs often reflect the character of their local communities, and players can become national heroes or symbols of cultural pride. The sport has also been a platform for social change, tackling issues like racism and inequality.

The Future of Soccer

The future of soccer is exciting, with technological advancements promising to revolutionize the game. Video Assistant Referees (VAR) is one such innovation, aimed at improving decision-making accuracy. Additionally, data analytics is being increasingly used to enhance player performance and tactical planning. However, these developments also raise questions about maintaining the sport’s spirit and tradition amidst rapid modernization.

In conclusion, soccer is a complex and vibrant sport that transcends beyond the boundaries of the playing field. Its simplicity, strategic depth, cultural significance, and promising future ensure its position as the world’s most popular sport. Essay on The Football Match you have Witnessed

narrative essay on football match 250 words

Football is a very popular game. Whenever I watch this game on television, I get overjoyed. When I watch it from the stadium gallery I feel as if I am playing it with others on the field.

Although I had seen several football matches during my school days, I had not availed of the chance of witnessing a match held between two states. This opportunity came in the month of July last year. A match was played between Mumbai and West Bengal at Salt Lake Stadium. I went there to witness it.

I bought a ticket with much difficulty and occupied the seat in the gallery. The match was to be played at 4 P.M. The Mohan Bagan of Calcutta had worn white uniform whereas the Mumbai had green uniform. There was a vast gathering in the field. The memory of that game is still afresh in my mind. I found the game highly interesting.

At the appointed time, the Mohan Bagan team started kicking the ball from the center. It marked the commencement of the match. The players of the Mohan Bagan team were spirited from the beginning and attacked the Mumbai players.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Of course, the defense-strategy of the Mumbai was very intelligent. But the spirit of co-operation among the Mohan Bagan players brought a chance of scoring an easy goal against the Mumbai. The crowd cheered up the Mohan Bagans.

In fact, the Mohan Bagans were superior to the Mumbai players in all respects. They won the match because of their presence of mind, the speed and position of players and above all due to the lack of intelligence in the rival team. Mr. Meheta, an old football player, conducted the match. He assisted the referee Mr. Kalu Kitholo of Keral.

The goal keeper of Mohan Bagan was a tall boy. He was never nervous. This virtue helped him a lot. He prevented every stroke by the Mumbai players quite heroically.

The referee blew the whistle at the half time. At that time the score was 1-0 with a lonely goal by Nirad Ganguly of Mohan Bagan. The referee was a very strong headed person. He enforced the laws while deciding the disputed points. Sometimes, the linemen standing on the border of the ground helped the referee in giving decisions.

The Mohan Bagans dominated the match particularly in the second half. The center forward with the help of the midfielder scored two more quick goals against Mumbai. The spectators on the gallery stood up and jubilantly cheered up the Mohan Bagan players. The referee blew the whistle. The match ended. The Mohan Bagan won by 4-0 goals.
