9. The radius of a circle of latitude is 6370km and Abidjan is 40 west of Accra but on the same circle of latitude. Calculate how far Abidjan is west of Accra.

The answer should be corrected to the nearest kilometer. [π = 22/7]?

Solution Solving to question 9: θ/360 * 2πr = Rcos4o = 4/360 * 40041/1 = 445km

Therefore, the answer is D

10. Find the area of the curved surface of the cone if the cone is made from a sector of a circle that has a radius of 14cm and an angle of 90. (x = 22/7)?

Solution Solving: Length of arc = θ/360 * 2πr => r = 90/360 * 14/4 = 3.5 slant height t = 14cm curved surface area of cone = πrl => 3.142 x 3.5 x 14 = 153.95

Therefore, the answer is C

11. Find the size of the angle of the sector if a rope of length 18m is used to form a sector of a circle of radius 3.5m on a school playing field.

Correct your answer to the nearest degree.

Solution Solving: Circumference = 2πr

2 x 22/7 x 3.5 ≅ 22m, 22m = 360

11m = 360/22 x 11 = 180 0

The correct answer is B.

12. Find Q ∩ P if P = (all odd numbers from 1 to 10) and Q = (all perfect squares less than 30)?

• (1, 4, 9, 16, 25)
• (1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 16, 25)
• (1, 3, 5, 7, 9)

Solution Solving: The only numbers that intersect between all odd numbers from 1 to 10 and all perfect squares that are less than 30 are [1 & 9]

Therefore, the answer = A 

Sample NECO Mathematics Theory Questions 2021 (Paper 2)

Below are the sample NECO Mathematics theory questions 202 1. They are essay questions gotten from last year’s exam. Study them effectively because they might be repeated in this year’s NECO Mathematics exam.

Solution; let’s assume x = log 9 27

Then 9 x = 27

Therefore, (3 2 ) x = 3 3

Divide it through by the coefficient of 2 x

i.e. 3 2x /3 = 3 3 /3

= 2x = 3 (equating indices) and x =1½

Solution: Let r be = log 5 0.04, then 5 r = 0.04 = 1 / 25 = 5 -2 (equating indices)

Hence r = -2 Ans.

Solving solution: 2x 2 + 9x =5

2x 2 + 9x -5 =0

(2x – 1) (x + 5) = 0

Either 2x – 1 = 0 or x + 5 = 0

Therefore 2x = 1 or x = -5 so, x = ½ or x = -5 Ans.

Solution solving

3x 2 – xy = 0 ———————- equation 1

2y – 5x = 1 ———————-equation 2

From equation 2, we have 2y = 1 + 5x

Y = ½ (1 + 5x) ——————-equation 3

Substitute ½(1 + 5x) for y in equation 1

3x 2 – x [½(1 + 5x)] = 0

3x 2 – ½x – 2½x 2 = 0

½x 2 – ½x = 0

½x (x – 1) = 0

Therefore, x =0 or x =1

Substituting for x in equation 3

When x =0, y = ½(1 + 5 X 0) = ½

And, when x =1, y = ½(1 + 5 X 0) =3

Therefore, the solutions are x =0 and y =½

x =1 and y =3

Or, in ordered pairs (0, ½) and (1, 3) Ans.

Solution: The price tag means that a 5% VAT surcharge is included in the total price. Thus N7000 represents 105% of the actual cost of the item.

105% of the cost price =N7000

1% of the cost of the item = N7000/105

5% of the cost (i.e. the VAT) =N7000/105 X 5

=N333 1 / 3 Ans.

Solution: Let y = (3x + 8) 6 and t = 3x + 8 then,

y = t 6 , dt/dx =3 and dy/dt =6t 5

By the chain rule, we have; dy/dx = dy/dt X dt/dx

= 6 (3x + 8) 5 X 3

= 18 (3x + 8) 5 Ans.

Solution: y = x 2 – 4x + 3

= dy/dx = 2x – 4, the gradient function.

If x = 3, the gradient of the curve at this point is 2 X 3 – 4 =2

Hence, the gradient of the tangent at x=3 is 2, i.e. the same as the gradient of the curve. The equation of the tangent is, y-1/x-3 = 2

• → y – 1 = 2(x-3)
• → y = 2x – 5 Ans.

2021 NECO Exam Scheme and Format for Mathematics.

The NECO Mathematics exam will be in two papers (paper 1 and paper 2).

• PAPER 1: Consist of compulsory questions which would last for fifty (50) minutes and carry fifty (50) marks. Each question has multiple-choice options ranging from A to D or E and only one of the options is to be selected for each question.
• PAPER 2: Paper 2 known as theory paper is a “show working paper”. Candidates are to answer the questions by solving them on the essay solving sheet. All solving steps are to be properly shown on the working sheet.

Success hints:

Check out the NECO 2021 Mathematics syllabus and area of concentration and make sure you cover all the topics listed there because they are the topics NECO will set Mathematics questions 2021 from.

• Go to the exam hall early.

The Neco Mathematics exam 2023 exam will begin from 10.00 am to 11.45 am for paper III (Objectives) and 12.00 noon to 2.30 pm for paper II (Essay). In this post, we will be posting the neco mathematics questions for candidates that will participate in the examination.

6. (a) Two children shared an amount of money in the ratio 3/4:2/5. If the smaller share was N25.00, how much was shared between them? (b) A box contains 5 red, 3 green and 4 blue balls of the same size. If a boy picks two balls from the box one after the other without replacement, what is the probability that both balls are red?

7. a) In a right angled triangle, sin x = 3/5. Evaluate 5(cos x)³-3. (b)

Part II Answer any FIVE questions. Write your answers on the answer booklet provided.

8. (a) In a class of 50 students, 30 offered History, 15 offered History and Geography while 3 did not offer any of the two subjects.

(i) Represent the information on a Venn diagram. (ii) Find the number of candidates that offered: (A) History only; (B) Geography only. (b) A trader sold an article at a discount of 8% for N 828.00. If the article was initially marked to gain 25%, find the (i) the cost price of the article; (ii) discount allowed.

9. (a) The second, fourth and sixth terms of an Arithmetic Progression (A.P.) are x – 1, x + 1 and 7 respectively. Find the: (i)common difference; (ii)first term; (iii)value of x. (b) A spherical bowl of radius r  em  is one-quarter full when 6 litres of water is poured into it. Calculate, correct to three significant figures, its diameter. [Take  π  =22/7]

10. P(lat 400N, long 18°W) and Q(lat 400N, long 78OW) are two cities on the surface of the earth. Calculate, the: (a)

Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only: (a) construct a triangle PQR with /PQ/ = 10cm, ∠QPR = 90° and ∠PQR = 30°; (b) (i) construct I, the locus of all points equidistant from PR and QR; (ii) locate M, the point where / intersects with PO, (c) (i) with M as centre and radius MP, draw a circle; (ii) calculate the area of the circle correct to one decimal place. [Take Π= 22/7].

12. The table below gives the distribution of marks for 360 candidates who sat for an examination.

(a) Draw a cumulative frequency curve for the distribution. (b) Use your graph to estimate the semi-interquartile range. (c) If the minimum mark for the distinction is 75%, how many candidates passed  with distinction?

13. (a) A ship Pis 3km due east of a harbour. Another ship Q  is also 3 km from the harbour but on a bearing of 042° from the harbour. (i)Find the distance between the two ships. (Find the bearing of ship Q  from ship  P.  (b) A motorist traveled 300 km  at an average speed of 75  km/h  and returned at an average speed of  v km/b.  If his average speed for the whole journey is 60  km/h,  find  v.

2. a) In a right angled triangle, sin x = 3/5. Evaluate 5(cos x) ³ – 3. (b) The angle of elevation of the top of a vertical pole from a point 63m east of the base of the pole is 30°. From another point due west of the pole, the angle of elevation of the top is 60° (i) Draw a sketch diagram to illustrate the information. (ii) Calculate, correct to three significant figures, the distance of the second point from the base of the pole.

3. (a) In a class of 50 students, 30 offered History, 15 offered History and Geography while 3 did not offer any of the two subjects. (i) Represent the information on a Venn diagram. (ii) Find the number of candidates that offered: (A) History only; (B) Geography only. (b) A trader sold an article at a discount of 8% for N 828.00. If the article was initially marked to gain 25%, find the (i) cost price of the article; (ii) discount allowed.

9. The table below gives the distribution of marks for 360 candidates who sat for an examination.

(a) Draw a cumulative frequency curve for the distribution. (b) Use your graph to estimate the semi-interquartile range. (c) If the minimum mark for distinction is 75%, how many candidates  passed  with distinction?

The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of Mathematics West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from 2020 to 2022 in Dala education zone, Kano state, Nigeria. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The target population of this study comprised of 1,176 Mathematics students. A sample size of 278 SS 3 students was drawn. Multistage sampling technique was used for the study. The instruments for data collection was 2020, 2021 and 2022 WASSCE objective test items. The data collected were processed and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Item Response Theory (IRT) was adopted for the study to determining the difficulty, discrimination and distracter indices, also content validity of examination instruments and Kuder-Richardson correlation were conducted, which yields 0.82, 0.58 and 0.75 coefficients for the year 2020, 2021 and 2022. Five research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation, and three hypotheses were tested using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that there is no significant difference between the difficulty (f=0.352, p=0.704), discrimination (f=1.050, p=0.353) and distracter (f=2.466, p=0.088) indices of WASSCE Mathematics from 2020 to 2022. The findings further revealed that the three years' examinations have well-structured content validity and the reliability coefficients was moderate. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the WAEC as an examination body should ensure that their items are well constructed and the determination of psychometric properties of the test items should also be considered.

The main objective of this study was to compare the senior secondary school Mathematics examination questions set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) to ascertain how much the questions were distributed across the cognitive domain, the themes and topics in their syllabi. To this effect, the objective and essay question papers set by WAEC and NECO in Mathematics in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 were obtained. A total of 917 Mathematics questions were set by the two examination bodies. The number of candidates that took both the Mathematics examinations conducted by WAEC and NECO in those years was 135, 712. A sample of 2000 was selected for the study using a purposive sampling technique. The questions were analysed in terms of how many of them fell under the various levels of the cognitive domain, the themes and topics in the syllabi of the examination bodies. This study investigated the performances of students' in National Examinations Council senior school certificate examination mathematics in NORTH-CENTRAL NIGERIA. A total of two million valid results were collated for the zone and analyzed for states in the zone. Already validated results of NECO for 2000 to 2009 were used for the study. The study identified the distributions of results into the total number of valid results released for each state; number of students passed and failed percentage performances and ranking of the states according to their performances. Three research questions guided the conduct of the study. Results showed that Kogi state had the highest number of valid results released while FCT had the least. Kwara state had the highest percentage performance and ranked the 1st position while FCT had the lowest percentage performance (below 28%) and ranked the least position (7th) Based on this result, the study recommended among other things that more, qualified mathematics teachers should be employed as a matter of urgency in FCT, Plateau, Niger and Nasarawa states to increase the workforce aimed at improving the teaching/learning of mathematics in these states with a corresponding improved students' performance in public examinations; Mathematics teachers in Kwara, Benue and Kogi states need to be commended and encouraged to put in more effort to sustain and improve on the present performance level.

Mathematics is a core subject across various levels of learning in the Nigerian education system. It is a branch of science that deals with numbers. Possession of mathematics skills aids a holistic development of an individual, hence mathematics is an indispensable tool in the growth and development of a nation. This research study takes into consideration the development and validation of mathematics achievement tests amongst secondary school students in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo state. Three research questions guided the study; Evaluation and descriptive survey designs were employed for the study. In order to analyze the required psychometric properties of the test items, a sample of thirty (30) SS1 students was drawn using a simple random sampling technique, from five public secondary schools with a population of 1546 students. These schools were selected from 42 schools using a stratified random sampling technique in Ibadan North Governments Local Area. The instrument used in the collection of data for this research study was a Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) developed by the researcher. SPSS "Statistical Package for Social Sciences" and Microsoft Excel were used in the calculation of the difficulty index (p-value), discrimination index and Kuder-Richardson formula (KR 20). The measure for internal consistency of the test items was found to be of a high-reliability coefficient of 0.84. The percentage and frequency were used to ascertain the content validity, alongside the face validity of the instrument by experts. The discrimination Index was found to be maximum at a P-value range of 0.4 to 0.6. Items with low discrimination index and low difficulty index are recommended to be revised for further use This research study is found to be useful to teachers, curriculum designers and educational stakeholders.

This study presents the findings of the relationship between students' achievement in mathematics conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) in four selected secondary schools in Ifedayo Local Government Area, Osun State, Nigeria.The analysis showed that there is significant positive relationship between mathematics in all the selected schools contrary to the hypothesis that says there is no relationship in WAEC and NECO mathematics results in the schools. It is therefore recommended that students should develop more interest in sitting for either of the two examinations since they produce equivalent results. The Neco maths exam begins from 10.00 am to 11.45 am for paper III (Objectives) and 12 noon to 2.30 pm for paper II (Essay). In this post, we will be posting out the NECO mathematics questions 2021 for candidates that will participate in the examination.

Neco Mathematics Answers 2021:

4. (a) The diagonals of a rhombus are  14em  and  gem.  Calculate, correct to the nearest centimeter, the perimeter of the rhombus. (b) The cross-section of a rectangular tank measures  l.2m  by  0.9m.  It contains water to a depth of  O.4m.  If a cubical block of side  50em  is lowered into the tank, calculate, correct to 2 significant figures, the rise in the water level (in metres).

7. P(lat 400N, long 18°W) and Q(lat 400N, long 78OW) are two cities on the surface of the earth. Calculate, the: (a) radius of the parallel of latitude on which P and Q lie, correct to the nearest 10km; (b) length of the minor arc PQ, correct to the nearest 100 km; (c) vertical distance between the centre of the earth and the centre of the small circle on which P and Q lie, correct to the nearest km. [Take  π  = 22/7 and radius of the earth= 6400 km]

8. Using ruler and a pair of compasses only: (a) construct a triangle PQRwith /PQ/ = lOcm, ∠QPR = 90° and ∠PQR = 30°; (b) (i) construct I, the locus of all points equidistant from PR and QR; (ii) locate M, the point where / intersects with po, (c) (i) with M as centre and radius MP, draw a circle; (ii) calculate the area of the circler correct to one decimal place. [Take Π= 22/7].

9. The table below gives the distribution of marks for 360 candidates who sat for an examination.

Analysis of Psychometric Qualities of National Examinations Council (NECO) Mathematics Essay Test Using Generalized Partial Credit Model

The main purpose of this study therefore was to analyze the psychometric qualities of NECO mathematics essay test using generalized partial credit model. The study adopted an instrumentation research design and was carried out in Benue state of Nigeria. The population of the study was 41,836 SS 3 students who registered for June/July NECO SSCE Examination in Benue State of Nigeria and a sample size of 650 students were used. The instrument for this study was an adopted NECO 2016 and 2017 June/July mathematics essay questions. The instrument for the study was administered to the respondents by the mathematics teachers in the sampled schools under the supervision of the researcher. Data was analysed using item parameter estimates of R-Package to answer the research questions, while t-test statistic was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. The result of the study showed that NECO 2016 and 2017 mathematics essay questions were unidimensional in nature. NECO 2016 had lower step difficulties than NECO 2017. NECO mathematics essay test for 2016 discriminated between high and low ability students than the NECO mathematics essay test for 2017. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that test developers and examination bodies such as NECO should undergo rigorous processes of psychometric properties of essay test before and after administration of test instrument. This will help the test developers to determine the existence of these psychometric properties and the need to establish them in any given test. It was also recommended that Seminars and workshops on Item Response Theory should be organized by the examination bodies for Psychometricians, test developers and teachers involved in test development.

FCT, Abuja - The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) internal examination timetable.

The internal examination will commence with practicals in subjects like physical education, auto mechanics, woodwork, home management, food and nutrition on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

According to the timetable shared via its X handle (formerly known as Twitter) @Neconigeria, Mathematics will be on Wednesday, July 10 while economics will take place on Tuesday, July 16.

The English language will be held on Wednesday, July 17 while further mathematics will be held on Monday, July 1.

The NECO internal examination will end on Friday, July 26 with objectives and an essay of commerce

Acting director of Registration, Hajara Ali, said blind candidates must make use of the NECO-supplied OBR customised braille sheet for the examination.

According to NECO , candidates who do not sit for practical (paper 1) will not have results in the subject.

Ali added that albinos and blind candidates are to be allowed 30 extra minutes at the end of each subject.

While the use of scientific calculators is allowed, bringing into the examination hall electronic communication gadgets (programmable calculators, mobile phones, iPads, tablets, smart wristwatches/glasses/pens etc.) is strictly prohibited.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that NECO released the results of the 2023 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

The registrar and chief executive officer, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the release of the results of the examination on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Wushishi said 61.60 per cent of candidates scored five credits and above, including English and Mathematics. He said 616,398 males and 580,587 females, a total of 1,196,985 candidates, sat for the examinations.

Small data learning problems are characterized by a significant discrepancy between the limited number of response variable observations and the large feature space dimension. In this setting, the common learning tools struggle to identify the features important for the classification task from those that bear no relevant information and cannot derive an appropriate learning rule that allows discriminating among different classes. As a potential solution to this problem, here we exploit the idea of reducing and rotating the feature space in a lower-dimensional gauge and propose the gauge-optimal approximate learning (GOAL) algorithm, which provides an analytically tractable joint solution to the dimension reduction, feature segmentation, and classification problems for small data learning problems. We prove that the optimal solution of the GOAL algorithm consists in piecewise-linear functions in the Euclidean space and that it can be approximated through a monotonically convergent algorithm that presents—under the assumption of a discrete segmentation of the feature space—a closed-form solution for each optimization substep and an overall linear iteration cost scaling. The GOAL algorithm has been compared to other state-of-the-art machine learning tools on both synthetic data and challenging real-world applications from climate science and bioinformatics (i.e., prediction of the El Niño Southern Oscillation and inference of epigenetically induced gene-activity networks from limited experimental data). The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the reported best competitors for these problems in both learning performance and computational cost.
