A Day in the Life of The Happy Housewife ~ My Schedule

by Toni Herrbach

Have you ever wondered what a real schedule looks like for a stay-at-home/ work-at-home mom? Years ago I wrote a series about a day in the life of The Happy Housewife.

It is still one of the most popular series on my site, over 10 years later! Personally, I think people are curious to see how others live and manage their time. I love learning how other people organize their days

Now that my kids are all much older, my schedule has changed quite a bit. I’ve updated it below. It’s funny to look at my schedule from 10 years ago and realize how much has changed.

A day in the life of a happy housewife

A few schedule changes:

My youngest child is 11 and five children live at home. They are self-sufficient when it comes to meals (breakfast/ lunch).

My kids are enrolled in Virtual School now which means they have teachers online who do the bulk of the teaching. I still help Cora, but my older two girls are on their own.

My son goes to a private high school and is no longer homeschooled.

I work pretty much full-time from home.

My kids are all involved in extra-curricular activities in the evenings, so dinner looks different every night.

From 2009…

In a nutshell this is what an average day looked like when my kids were all at home and ages 1-16.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on this series. You are all an encouragement to me! This post is what many of you have been waiting for, my schedule or daily routine.

In an effort to keep my posts from becoming epic novels today I will discuss my schedule and write about the kids’ schedule later this week.

Homeschool Working Mom Schedule with Large Family

  • Wake-up between 6:30-7 (usually closer to 7).
  • Read my bible, check emails, and weather.
  • Take a super fast shower.
  • Start breakfast between 7:30 and 8.
  • Breakfast, morning clean-up.
  • Start school by 9 am.
  • School with kids from 9-12 with interruptions for laundry, meal prep, and naughty children.
  • Prepare lunch with help from kids.
  • Lunch from 12-1. I make lunch and the kids clean up. I use this time to check email, catch up on a few chores, check school work.
  • 1-3:00 School with kids.
  • 3 pm – usually we are finished with school at this time. Three or four days of the week we have a project we work on together, cleaning, organizing, or fixing things around the house.
  • 3:30 – 4:30 pm Free time for everyone. I use this time to work on the blog, pay bills, return phone calls or emails, work on school admin, or work on craft projects.
  • 4:30 pm dinner prep
  • 5:30 – 6:30 pm Dinner /dinner clean-up
  • 6:30 – 8 pm kids ready for bed, devotions, general clean up of the house
  • 8 -10 pm mom and dad time, this varies depending on the day, sometimes we will both be working on the computer, sometimes I bake or sew, sometimes we hang out and chat.
  • 10 pm – In bed, I usually read for about 45 minutes to an hour after I am in bed.

Working Mom Daily Schedule with Kids at Home

  • Wake-up between 6:00-6:30.
  • Take a fast shower. (I only wash my hair 2x a week)
  • Eat breakfast. I eat an egg white omelet every day.
  • 8am – Start work
  • Kids at home start school by 9 am.
  • 11:45 – Lunch & check-in on kids
  • 12:45 – Back to work
  • 2:30 – Gym
  • 3:30 – Pick up child from school
  • 4pm – Dinner prep, school check, chores.
  • 5pm – Eat dinner. We eat very early because my kids have practice in the evenings. If they don’t have practice we eat a little later, around 6pm.
  • 6-9pm – Extra curricular activities, aka I drive the kids all over town.
  • 9:30 – Read, bed.

I am not a morning person.

I am not a morning person. For many years I tried to get up at 5:30am but I just don’t operate well at that time no matter what time I go to bed.

I also end up getting really tired in the afternoon when I wake up that early. If I sleep until 6:15 – 6:30 I am able to make it through the day without feeling tired.

Over the past several years I have developed habits that help me wake up earlier and feel less tired throughout the day. It is possible to wake up earlier with some simple modifications to your routine.

I’m a big believer in eating breakfast. To save time (and brain power) I eat the same thing every single day.

When my children were young, we had hot breakfasts most mornings and I  doubled the recipe so the kids could reheat breakfast on their own later in the week.

Homeschooling

We homeschooled exclusively for 15 years. It was always my goal to have the kids nearly self-sufficient in their learning by middle school. This freed up my time to focus on the younger children.

I usually left time in the afternoon to check up on my older kids.

When my kids were little I made lunch for everyone. Now that they are older they have to fend for themselves. I typically buy bagged salads for myself and the kids eat whatever is available.

Everyone in my family has chores. The only way you get out of doing chores is if you have a cast. (Which strangely seems to happen a lot around here, lol). Some chores rotate, while other chores are done by the same kids on certain days.

You can read more about how I manage chores here.

Free time is possible, even if you are a working mom.

I try to make the most of my free time. Typically I have list (in my head) of things that need to get done and work in order of priority. Since my kids are having free time too, I rarely have interruptions.

School Planning

When my children were exclusively homeschooled I planned for the next week on Fridays. Since their books were already out it works well for me to look over the next weeks lesson’s, write up school schedules, and plan for the week.

If I didn’t get it all planned on Friday, I finished on Sunday afternoon. As for grading papers and checking work I try to do it as we go, occasionally I get behind and will spend an evening catching up.

Menu Planning/ Grocery Shopping

Meal planning has probably changed the most since my kids were little. When they were young, I would plan my meals for 30 days at a time.

Now that they are older and I don’t to take them all to the store (or find someone to watch them) I plan our meals a week at a time.

I’ve tried a few menu planning services, but typically I stick to recipes that I know a majority of my kids like. (That’s actually fairly difficult)

Last year I completely changed how I grocery shopped. It ended up being a good thing because I never ran out of certain supplies during the spring of 2020. My new shopping method saves time and money, you can learn more about my grocery saving strategies here.

I stay at home as often as a I can

I realize this is not possible for many families who take their kids to therapy, school, activities or other appointments. However I do not run errands throughout the week. I go to the grocery store and bible study, that’s it. I am able to accomplish a lot at home because I am not in and out of the car.

If I do have to go out, I combine all my errands. It is not uncommon for me to go a month or more without going anywhere but my kids activities, the grocery store, and school.

I don’t watch much television

I use to never watch TV or movies. It wasn’t because I think they are bad, I just had other things that I thought were more important. For years, I didn’t watch ANY television.

Once my boys got older, I started watching sports on television with my boys. It was a way we could spend time together without my teen boys feeling like I was conducting an FBI investigation.

Having my evenings or mornings free from tv allows me to catch up on reading, or work on other projects after the kids go to bed. I can’t even imagine the number of hours I’ve gained over the past 27 years from not watching much television.

We clean on Saturdays

Saturday morning we all clean the house. On a good day we can clean the house from top to bottom in under two hours. If we have plans for a family outing on Saturday we clean on Friday night.

Everyone has assigned jobs and we all work together. Because we keep the house picked up throughout the week our house is never super dirty, so our weekly cleanings take very little time.

I pull a late nighter once a month

When I wrote this post initially, I would pull a light night work session once a week. Now that I’m a lot older, I can’t bounce back from late nights like I use to.

Still, every once in a while I stay up late to finish a project. It might be work, it might be something around the house. It just depends on what needs to be done.

Organize, Minimize, Simply

The less stuff I own, the easier it is to maintain it. De-cluttering is a constant battle I fight in my home.

I pay bills online so I have less mail to deal with. We have no debt so we have fewer bills. Fewer nic-nacs mean less things to dust. Less furniture makes it easier to vacuum.

If a toy is not played with frequently it takes a trip to Goodwill. If we have somewhere to go in the morning, clothes are laid out the night before. The diaper bag is always packed and ready to go. Library books are stored in one spot. Creating systems like these allow everyone to help out and make it easy for me to stay organized.

As I said before, I am not an expert, these ideas work for our family, they might not work for yours. My schedule doesn’t always go according to plan, but if I stick to the same core elements things go pretty smoothly.

What made you choose to go to work outside the home?

Hi! I also work full time, and am very available to the family, so I find it hard to fit in all the hours (even though I’m not homeschooling anyone). In your schedule above I only see 5.5 hours of work time in the day – can you please give some suggestions where the additional 2.5 hours can come from? Not at night – I am generally too tired after 8 pm to get back to my desk.

You’re amazing! Thank you for sharing

Anamika jain says

Hi! there thanks for sharing your daily schedule. It gives us an idea on how to manage time and do your work on time n tidy.

Kristi says

I love your website and it’s great that you take the time to help others by writing your ideas and what works and doesn’t work for you. As for the schedule, I used to think a schedule was too restrictive and would stress me out too much, but now that 3 of my four children are home school age, I find MUCH COMFORT in our newly made schedule!

Stephanie says

This is very interesting indeed. Thank you so much for giving us a “glimpse” into your daily schedule.

I love that you plan your meals 30 days in advance. I think I’d like to try something like that.

We also don’t watch much television and we “stay home.” Driving around town just gobbles up too much time and, besides, we kind of like being home. 🙂

One question: where do you find time to blog and to do all of the bloggy-related things (read other blogs, comment on blogs, work with PR companies, do reviews, twitter, etc.)?

Kristin says

We have a pretty full schedule around here with five children and another on the way. We threw away our television when our second oldest was born, seven years ago, and my husband and I both agree that this was a great decision for our family. Not only is it not missed, but we have so much more time to do projects, read, and spend time together as a family.

Cierra says

Wow,you are amazing! I hope to be this organized and scheduled someday. Right now our life is heading for big changes and we don’t have our own house yet so my battle to be totally on top of things is really hard…But I see that in the near future things will get back to normal for us. Now that we have a baby I know the need for scheduling time to be able to get it all done. Your blog is a great help to me for ideas, thanks for writing! I look forward to reading your future post’s… 🙂

Genius, pure genius. Loving your blog. Also, I feel strongly that keeping possessions and “extracurriculars” to a minimum is one important key to happiness as a mom and homemaker.

gail @ challenges & adventures says

great post! thanks for including what you don’t do (ie tv) as well as what you do include in your life. we like taking walks after dinner as a family when the weather warms up too.

TheHappyHousewife says

Monique- Thanks for the suggestion. We do rotate toys, but we don’t have an attic and we live in military housing so there isn’t a ton of storage. We also move every 2 years so living with less is sometimes easier. If I had an attic, or stayed in one spot for longer I would probably do more toy rotation. Toni

Monique says

You are amazing! I can see how having more kids to help would make cleaning much faster. Thank you for sharing what works for your family. Why don’t you save toys in the attic for the next child? We rotate our toys. I use a large bed in a bag to store them in. I change out the toys about every 6 weeks. And what they outgrow I store for the next one.

Amy Ellen says

It’s me here again 🙂 I know I already asked the blog-time questions… but what about exercise too? I struggle to get up early enough for exercise and quiet time and shower before my littles wake up. Something has to go… or change. But, back to my question… do you have a time set aside to exercise?

Jessie says

I just found your blog and I appreciate your insight. Thanks! I’d like to hear more about those years your husband had to work a lot. We are in that stage with a 7, 5, 2 and 6mo old and while my Hubby is a gem and very helpful with the kids I’m constantly feeling unable to catch up and desperately deprived of time with my Husband. Eve has more kids than I do but I SO relate to her comment…it’s a monopoly!

Amanda says

Have I ever told you you are my hero? LoL No really, LOVE this blog series and thought it ironic that our schedules look very similar. We have just recently started the Saturday morning cleaning sweep and after about 4 Saturdays I don’t think I will ever stop! Our 4 older 12-6 and I are able to thouroughly clean and de clutter our 5 bedroom 2300 square foot home in just under 3 hours. Can’t wait for the next post!

Sharla says

Oh. my. heck. You are not human. I have planned out a similar schedule about a bazillion times but I never stick with it. Ever. I don’t know how to do it.

Hey there. I haven’t been by in awhile. Well, actually I have.. I’ve been lurking, just not leaving comments.. LOL.

What a great post. I love having a routine/schedule.. I figure if God can work in order.. so can I.

Have a great one 🙂

Mrs. Jo says

Wow! Thanks for sharing; I’m always trying to learn from moms who are further down the road from me. Your schedule looks similar to mine except I’m not into full-time homeschooling yet. I admire military wives so much. How you do it with your husband gone amazes me. That must be so tough. Thanks for the great blog and I’m DYING to know what happens next in the love story.

Tiffany says

OH I am just loving this series! We have a very loose schedule, but I am now seeing a zillion ways to tweak it and get more done! THANKS for all of this.. I can’t wait to read more!

Your schedule is very similar to the one I have in my head, not necessarily the one that we actually employ on a daily basis. Since baby seven arrived last Sept., I have yet to feel at ease with our homeschooling on a daily basis, though. Our two year old twins and their four year old sister seem to monopolize so much of my time that most school stuff gets relegated to nap time after lunch, which ends up running into free time and dinner prep time. I am looking forward to reading about your kids’ schedules to see if I can glean any good ideas to implement. Our three homeschooling age guys(6yr, 8yr, and 9yr) are rushed along and getting stressed out.

Suzanne says

I love what you said about waking up early. I can totally relate to that one. I’ve spent the last few years feeling guilty or lazy for trying to sleep in some. I have friends who wake up super early to get their exercise and shower done before the kids are up. I’ve felt like maybe I need to do that, too, but it just doesn’t work for me! If I get up too early I am just plain grumpy and that doesn’t work for anyone. Thank you for helping me erase my guilt and see it in a more practical light…we just aren’t all the same!

As I finished looking at your schedule I realised there was no TV in there and while I was wondering if you watched, you answered it for me. I realise TV cuts into the time I could spend doing other things but I watch it anyway. Sometimes it’s 1 hour a day, sometimes it’s more. Then I don’t have a husband and I only have one child.

WOW! thanks for posting this!

StephanieK says

I really admire your dedication. Homeschooling and being a stay at home mom is something I might like to do someday, but I know it takes diligence. It could be very tempting to sit around and do not much of anything! 🙂

abba12 says

Your schedual is similar to what I’d like mine to be, except that in my experience kids work better in the mornings and I find, at least for the way my family teaches, we can finish in 3 or 4 hours, so my mother has tended to do school from 8 or 9am and lunch is simply when people finish. If theres a project, they can work on that independently through the afternoon, and that isn’t a problem since generally they WANT to! It’s great to see into other peoples scheduals to asess your own ideas, thanks for sharing!

Errands are such a drain on time. I try to get them all done at one time. It’s amazing how much time can be wasted on those “little” errands.

Amanda from Faith, Food and Family says

Love this series! Thanks for doing it! Looking forward to the next one. Have a great evening! God bless, Amanda

Samantha K. says

Thank you for your revealing look into your daily schedule. I really enjoy hearing about how other moms get done everything that is important to them and their family. I check your blog every day and enjoy hearing about your life!

Angel Beers says

I think with a large family if you wern’t on a schedule it would be like juggling one handed…possible but extremely hard. I have 1 in school and one at home. She gets interaction w/ my niece who I babysitt M-F on school days. We do go to the library once a week for story time & I usually do my errands that day so as to only make 1 trip. I have most everything I need w/in 4 mi radius. I am lucky to have a LARGE extended fam nearby so that helps. The park is close so we go there too. I also belong to a moms group but we usually do just the free or nearly free items. I get a calendar a month at a time so I can plan my stuff. W/ a DH gone every other month I like to meet other moms when he is gone so I have adult conversation. We stay home more when he is home. Of couse I have to bring him to the airport every month so I wait & do my big shopping at stores we don’t have in our small town then. I like to group things to make the most of my time. We also go to church twice a week which is a half mi from my house so its very easy. Take care w/ your bedrest.

Relishing Life says

Thank you so much for taking the time describe your schedule!! I make is so much easier to see how you are able to accomplish so many things, and how I can use some of your techniques to better manage my time! Thank you!!

Tracey - Girls to Grow says

Love this post – very practical! I already have a schedule that I follow pretty regularly, but still got some tips from you that I hope to incorporate into my day. Appreciate your sharing with us!

I have a little that just turned 4 still at home and one in school. I have mom guilt because I keep tweaking my routines thinking that I just dont have it right yet but I think it is more that I need to stop trying and just start doing. I dont think I have ever actually done a routine long enough to see if it works and I keep Saying…”I need to make time to work on numbers, letters with the 4 year old” but I have yet to do it on regular basis … thanks for you input on this it is always interesting and encouraging to read what others do to spotlight what I can do to make things work better

Joelle says

Maybe I should try that once-a-month meal planning. It always takes me a long time, too.

Courtney @ Sister To Sister says

WOW! I am so impressed!

I am working really hard to try to find a schedule/system that works for us and you just gave me some GREAT ideas!

Thank you again!

Can’t wait to hear the kid’s schedule!

MNKristy says

Thanks for sharing. I love hearing about how others structure their days and get everything done. It sounds like you have a great system and lots of great helpers. Congrats!

miss mary says

I have a schedual I try to follow. My day starts at 7 and I end up in bed between 11:45 – 12:00 p.m. Suffice it to say, I’m tired sometimes.

Kristi_runwatch says

Thanks for the peek into your day! Our schedules are somewhat similar, but we aren’t into full-blown homeschooling yet, so this is helpful to know how to shift when the kids get older. I’m like you in that I just cannot get up early – I’ve tried. Doesn’t work. I’d much rather stay up until 1pm now and then! 🙂

You are amazing and very encouraging!! A lot of great ideas that I need to start implenting. Have a blessed day… Kim

It is surprising how much our days are similar… except for the late-nighters… I haven’t tried this… although those few extra hours may be exactly what I need in a week!

Do you mind if I ask how your blogs come out during the school day? Do write them in advance and schedule the posting? I am so curious to know how you fit all that happens on this blog into less than an hour!

Essay on My Daily Routine in 200 Words

Everyone should follow a daily routine . As a student, I follow a very simple and easy routine for myself. I have made this routine with the help of my brother and one of my teachers. My day starts very early in the morning.

I get up at 5 o’clock and go for a morning walk . I am very aware of my health. I try my best to keep myself fit and fine. After the morning walk, I bath with cold water and then take a rest for 10 minutes.

After the rest, I eat my breakfast. And then I go to my reading room . I love to read science and English in the morning time. It’s the best time to concentrate on study. Then I prepare myself for school.

Exactly at 9.30 o’clock, my father takes me to school. I come back from school at 3 PM in the afternoon. I eat my lunch in the school break time, I keep my food with me. Then I take a rest in my home and go out for playing cricket.

Then I come back home before getting dark outside. I start reading at 6 PM and read till 9 PM. Then I eat my dinner. Before going to sleep, I watch television for 30 minutes. That’s all my daily routine.

My Daily Routine Essay in 300 Words

Introduction:

If you are following a daily routine that could bring some serious changes in your life. First of all, it will let you live a life in a fixed schedule and you can manage things in a better way. For the students, it’s a mandatory thing to follow.

Because it can improve your study style and get better results for yourself. I also follow a daily routine as a student, and I am going to share things about my routine here.

My Daily Routine:

My routine is very simple but I follow it very strictly. Take a look at my daily routine here.

4.00 AM – I get up early in the morning.

4.00-4.20 AM – I brush my teeth and wash my face.

4.20-5.00 – I go for a small morning walk and some basic exercises. And I get back to home.

5.00-5.20 – I take a shower with cold water.

5.20-7.00 – I prepare all my school tasks and homework.

7.00-7.30 – I eat my breakfast.

7.30-9.00 – Again I study and prepare my school tasks.

9.00-9.30 – I prepare myself for going to school and got to school.

9.30-3.30 – I spend all these hours in the school. I eat my lunch there. I keep my food with me. I love eating lunch with all my friends.

3.30-4.30 – I get back to home and take rest.

4.30-6.00 – I play cricket outside and then get back to home.

6.00-9.00 – I study a lot in that time.

10.00 – I go to sleep after eating my dinner and watching TV for 20 minutes.

That’s all about my daily routine.

Conclusion:

I make some changes in the routine when I have free time or leisure time. Overall that’s a huge experience for me to follow this productive routine.

My Daily Routine Essay in 400 Words

Introduction:

If you want to get the best result from your work, then you need to manage time properly. And time management becomes so easy when you are following a daily routine. As a student, I follow a very strict but simple routine and it helps me a lot to improve my study and other things. Today I will share everything about my routine.

My Daily Routine:

My day starts very early in the morning. I wake up at 4 o’clock. I used to wake up very late, but when I heard about the health benefits of early rising , I started to get up early. Then I brush my teeth and go for a small morning walk .

I enjoy the walk very much because it helps to feel good in the early morning. Sometimes I do some basic exercises too. Then I take a shower and eat my breakfast. Then I prepare my school tasks. I love to study math and science in the morning time.

Because I can give better concentration on that period. I get ready for my school at 9 o’clock and my mom drops me there at 9.30 o’clock. I spend most of the time on my day at the school. I eat my lunch there in the school break time.

I come back from the school at 3.30 PM and then I take a rest for 30 minutes. I love to play cricket in the afternoon. But every day I can’t play.

My Evening and Night Routine:

When I get back home after the playing in the field, I feel very tired. And then I wash and take rest for 30 minutes. I eat some juice or something else that my mom prepares for me. I start to study at 6.30 PM in the evening.

Most of the day, I keep reading till 9.30. That’s the most important part for my study. I prepare all my homework and do some extra studies too. And then I eat my dinner and watch Television before sleep.

Conclusion:

That’s all about my daily routine. I try to follow this routine always. But sometimes I need to bring some changes in the routine. And when I spend holiday and off day from school, I can’t follow this routine at all. I think this routine is helping me to use my time in the best work and complete my study tasks properly.

Essay on My Daily Routine in 500 Words

Essay on My Daily Routine in 500 Words

To become successful, everybody should follow a strict schedule or routine. Especially in student life, we need to maintain our time properly. If we fail to maintain time then we can’t make a good result in the examination.

Today I am going to share my daily routine and my experience here. I am a very regular guy who follows a routine. I made that routine almost six months ago with the help of my elder brother.

I make some small edits and changes in the routine due to my own preference.

I consider the morning is the most important part of the day. In the morning, you will find lots of peace and a calm environment. My class teacher suggested me to get up early morning. I followed here that suggestion very seriously and that made my day.

Now I always get up at 5 o’clock in the morning. First of all, I go to the washroom and brush my teeth. I wash my face and wipe the water with a towel. Then I go for a small morning walk. I know the morning walk is very important for good health.

Sometimes, I do exercise too. Most of the time I walk almost 30 minutes and the doctor said that’s enough for me. This little workout keeps me strong for the rest of the day. I come back to home after the walk and get fresh again.

I eat my breakfast then. After eating breakfast, I study Math and Science in the morning time. I think morning is the best time to study.

School Time:

I go to school at 9.30 o’clock in the morning. My father drops me here with his car. I get a break at 1 o’clock after four classes in a row. And finally, I go home at 4 PM with my mom .

She comes to pick me up from school every day. Because it takes almost 20 minutes to go home from school by car. I enjoy school time very much.

Eat and Sleep Routine:

I eat my breakfast and then I eat my lunch in the school break time. I take my lunch with me. My mother is very aware of my food. She always cooks something interesting to me. I love eating Pizza and Burger, but she doesn’t buy me that kind of fast food.

She prefers to cook them for me. I love her cooked Pizza very much. And finally, after reading and watching TV at night at 10 o’clock, I go for my sleep. When I go to bed, I think about my entire day.

Holiday Routine:

When my school is close and I have lots of spare time, my daily routine becomes a bit different. I add time for video games, playing in the field with friends, and spending more time with my cousins.

That’s all about my daily routine. I love to follow this routine and I am very serious about it. I think It’s perfect for me. You can follow my routine too.

7. I go outside to play cricket with my friends in the afternoon. I enjoy that time a lot. I think that’s the best part of my day.

8. I read almost three hours at night. And then I eat my dinner.

9. Before going to bed, I watch TV for 30 minutes. I love watching cartoon channels.

10. That’s all about my daily routine. That is very simple and easy.

How can I write my daily routine?

If you want to write a daily routine, you can take suggestions from your teacher or someone elder from your family. When I wrote my first daily routine, I was very confused. But finally, I came with a very productive and successful schedule of my life. I suggest you look back on your day and think about how do you spend your time. You need to find where should you spend most of your time and where not.

How important is a daily routine?

A daily routine is a very essential thing that will make your day easy. I hope you will be able to create a very useful and proper daily routine.

housewife schedule

Does your week look like a big, mushy blob of unorganized chaos? Are you looking for some schedule and structure at home? Look no further! Having a plan for your week at home can be so helpful in allowing you to get more things done AND find some time for rest and fun:) you need a housewife schedule for your week!

If you’re on my email list (join HERE ) you know that I went through a busy season of life last year. We just had a lot going on! I didn’t pull out my planner very much and life just felt all mushy and chaotic. My lack of planning really reflected on my productivity and attitude.

Now that things are back to normal, I am back to ALL of my tried and true planning tips, and I can already see a difference. All this to say, that I know from personal experience the benefit of having a solid weekly plan.

I wish I would have stuck with it as much as I could when life was busy, because that’s when I needed it the most!

If you’re looking for a weekly housewife schedule that will organize all the chaos OR if you don’t have chaos but you DO want more productivity without burnout, then this post is for you!

Why Plan Your Week at Home?

Why go through the trouble of planning out your week anyway?! Is it really that helpful? Yes, yes it is!

As homemakers we have a lot to juggle! Everything from keeping the house clean, to meals and groceries, to appointments and schedules.

Without some kind of organization and planning, stuff will start to fall through the cracks. A weekly plan will give you tasks to do each day, so that you’re accomplishing all of the things on your to-do list!

I know that there are SO many different personalities out there as well as different life situations. Some stay-at-home-moms are able to “wing it” with their weekly schedules and still manage to get things done peacefully. They don’t need a plan.

This is amazing… BUT if you’ve tried this and found that it just didn’t work for you, then you will likely benefit from a little structure and routine in your week. A weekly housewife schedule! For the housewife, homemaker, and/or stay-at-home mom.

When to Plan Your Week

If you’re going to get started planning out your week, the first step is to designate a day and time to plan!

Obviously this is personal to everyone, but I think the best days to plan your week are on Sunday evening or Monday morning. You want to be ahead of the game, and make your weekly plan before the week starts rolling in. Life can get hectic FAST.

IF you have a different kind of schedule, i.e. your weekend days are different than the usual, do your weekly planning on the day before or first day of a new week.

If you have kiddos, try to make your weekly plan when they are napping, or before or after bed. This way you can give it all of your attention and focus. You don’t need a big chunk of time! 20-30 minutes will be plenty of time to make a rough schedule for your week at home.

How to Plan Your Week

Okay, let’s get down to it! Here is how to plan your week at home for the most productivity without burnout.

You’ll want to use a planner of some kind OR write down the days of the week on a fresh sheet of paper. I’ve used all different kinds of planners, notebooks and random scraps of paper. You’ll find what you like best:)

Fill in Events/Birthdays/Holidays

Start first with a calendar! A calendar in your planner, a printable planner, wall calendar, anything. Take a look at the month as a whole. Are there any holidays this week? Appointments you already have scheduled? Family or friend birthdays?

Its great to get in the habit of writing down appointments in this calendar when you make them , so that every time you go to plan your week, you already know what’s on the schedule. I also write down birthdays for the month in my planner, at the beginning of each month.

In your weekly plan, jot down what’s ARLEADY on the schedule: holidays, birthdays, appointments, etc. on the correct day.

From there, you can get your TO-DO list going. Start your to-do list on a separate sheet of paper. Write down anything you need to do or GET for the events you started with (birthday gifts, holiday supplies, figure out babysitting for your appointment, etc.)

Try and be thorough! It’s better to have it written down and not need it than to not have it written down and forget it.

Fill in Your Weekly Necessities

We all have foundational things that are non-negotiable. This is something you need to figure out beforehand, sometimes through trial and error.

Your non-negotiable activities are the bare minimum you want to get to even when the week turns out to be a mess and you can’t get to anything else. These are things that fulfill you as a person or are a necessity for your family.

Here are some ideas:

  • Personal: prayer, reading, hygiene
  • School/Homeschool for kids
  • Quality time spent with husband (could be a weekly date night, or as simple as a 5 min uninterrupted conversation each evening)
  • Bare Minimum Cleaning
  • REST! (one day a week, one hour every evening, one hour during afternoon nap, etc.)

You’re filling this in in your weekly schedule first thing because these are the tasks and activities you want to get to no matter what!

Decide when and how often you’re doing each one. You can always switch things around as the week goes on, nothing is set in stone. But its best to give it a day/time/consistency to start with.

Decide on Your Weekly Housewife Schedule

From here you can decide on your weekly homemaking schedule. If you’ve been around a while you know I love the scheduling method of having a different theme each day.

Here’s how that goes for me: Mondays are for cleaning, Tuesday is a catch-all day, Wednesday is baking, Thursday is projects, Friday is errands, Saturday is family-fun day, Sunday is for resting.

You can plug in whatever theme days work for you and your home. If you do this method I suggest AT LEAST having a cleaning day and an errand day. The rest is up to you!

You can also use a different homemaking schedule. Some homemakers do a little bit of everything every day. Meaning they have one cleaning task, one meal prep project, one house project, one organizing project, etc., EACH day.

If this works better for you, then do it! Decide what cleaning tasks get done on which day, and if you can what projects, organizing, and meal prep tasks get done on which days.

Then, write it down in your planner for the week on the designated day.

***write a star next to the theme days that are non-negotiable for you… if the week turns out to be a mess and you can’t get to everything, what 1-2 days are a priority for you? Make sure you know ahead of time, so you know what to do if things come up and you’re not able to follow through with your weekly schedule like you’d like.

After you’ve decided on the themes, make sure to write down on each day what you’re doing within that theme. What things are you going to try to clean on your cleaning day? What’s the plan for your fun day?

Decide on Time Slots for Randoms

We all have those random things we need to do each week. Things like call the dentist, find that toy the kids lost, put away the Christmas decor, etc.

Designate a specific day or a specific time each day to cross the randoms off your to-do list!

I’ve done this in two different ways in the past. I’ve designated a whole day to random things (the catch-all day) and I’ve also left 1-1.5 hours on most afternoons for getting done as much as I can on my random to-do list.

If you’re not setting aside designated time for these things, you might never get to them. I also suggest putting a star next to or highlighting the things on your random to-do list that are more of a priority, so that you know you need to get to them first.

Make a Meal Plan

We can’t have a weekly homemaking schedule without a meal plan! Meal planning can be SO helpful in allowing you to get from scratch meals on the table each week, without stress and overwhelm and the dreaded “what’s for dinner?” question.

Meal planning should be a part of your planning when making your weekly schedule. And guess what?! Meal planning does NOT have to be complicated and overwhelming and spreadsheet madness. Unless you want it to be… you do you;)

I have a post HERE on meal planning tips for beginners. Check it out if you’ve never meal planned before and you’re wanting to get started.

If you’re already familiar with meal planning and you have a good method going, then do it when you make your weekly plan. After you’ve decided on meals for each day, write them down on your weekly schedule. THEN, head over to your to-do list and grocery list and write down everything you need for your meals for the week.

I love to have a baking day (you could also consider it a meal prep day) as one of my theme days. You can decide when you’re filling in tasks for your theme days, what things you can cook/bake/prep ahead of time for your weekly meals. It could be as involved as making a bunch of freezer meals, or as simple as chopping vegetables for the week.

Wrapping it Up

That’s pretty much it! That’s how I plan my week as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. I love having a plan, and I think it can be SO helpful in getting all the things done that you want to get done, without burnout.

If you went through all of the steps, you should have all of the major appointments, holidays, and birthdays written down on your schedule. You should have a separate to-do list and grocery list that correlates with those.

Your weekly schedule has all of your non-negotiables in it, and highlighted! So you know if all else fails, these are things you must get to. You gave each day a theme and filled in your tasks for that day. After that, you decided on disganted days and/or times to cross all of the random things off your to-do list.

Finally, you finished it all up with your meal plan! Being sure to add groceries to the grocery list, tasks that help with meals to your meal prep day, and anything else related to your random to-do list.

You are ALL set to have a happy, productive, restful week as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.

Real quick, here are some other tips that can be helpful when planning your week:

  • DO NOT live and die by your schedule. Life is SO unpredictable, especially if you have little kiddos. Use your weekly schedule as your guideline, but if things come up and you have to move activities/tasks/days around, then do it! And don’t feel bad about it! Don’t feel bad if you have to strip it down to the bare minimum some weeks. That’s why we decided beforehand what our bare minimum is, because this will happen.
  • Keep a few running homemaking lists, to pull from when planning your week. Things like project idea lists, to-do lists, recipes to try, homeschooling tasks to complete, fun day outing ideas, things to CLEAN, etc. I have a post HERE all about homemaking lists if you want to check that out.
  • Practice, practice, practice: the first time you make your housewife schedule, you may be thinking it doesn’t work. The best thing you can do is do it over and over again, each week, so you can figure out what does work. Every homemaker is different, and will have different things that work for them. Take the time each week to make your plan, make changes according to what you and your family needs and figure out what works!
  • HAVE FUN! Schedules and routines can get a bad rap for being rigid and well…NOT FUN. Make sure when you’re planning your week to add in fun things. Projects you’re excited to get to, fun family outings, etc. Also, have fun when you’re making the actualy schedule! Make yourself a coffee, enjoy some dark chocolate, light a candle, make it something you look forward to.

Do you have a weekly housewife schedule? How do you plan your weeks as a stay-at-home mom or homemaker?

I’d love to know! Happy planning friends.

13 Productive Morning Routine Ideas for a Housewife Or Working Woman

  • Routines get a bad rep for making things boring because they repeatedly make you go through the same activities.
  • But there is a reason they are there - they help us plan out our day in such a way that we can be as efficient and productive as we can.
  • Women - housewives and working - have a million tasks to get through every day, which makes routines much more important because they can help with efficiently organizing these tasks.

daily routine essay for housewife

Ideas for a productive morning routine for a housewife or working woman are different because they depend on who you are, what lifestyle you lead, and what priorities you have. Therefore, an important part of setting up a morning routine is having a good understanding of who you are and what you are trying to accomplish.

daily routine essay for housewife

The main factor that drives differences in morning routines for women is if they are homemakers (housewives) or working women. Research by Pew Research Center shows that the amount of time devoted to various activities differs between both sets of women, which means that their morning routines must be different.

Regardless of your chosen path, a routine will be hugely beneficial because it helps you order your morning to get more work done. Another benefit is that once your body gets used to a routine, you can get through activities faster while using less energy.

As I already mentioned, morning routines are different depending on the person, so we cannot give a set morning routine for maximum productivity. We can, however, give you billion-dollar morning routine ideas that you can apply to your unique lifestyle to have the best mornings.

Productive Morning Routine for a Housewife

Table of Contents

  • Come up with your priorities

Depending on your lifestyle, there will be things that you absolutely need to get done in the mornings, such as making breakfast if you have kids. List these priority activities out so that you can focus on them in the mornings to get them out of the way.

The activities you pick should be the most beneficial to your family, and they shouldn’t be so much that they overwhelm you. Rather select between 2 to 5 activities to be priority activities, and then other less important activities can be done over time throughout the morning with more flexibility.

The main advantage of doing this is that you can get the most important activities out of the way without overexerting yourself while still leaving yourself enough time to do other necessary activities in the morning.

  • Include personal activities

To implement a productive day routine, you need energy, and this can only come when you are mentally and physically healthy . Therefore, it is important that you include personal activities in your routine that will contribute to your health.

You should consider activities such as praying, meditation, and a gratitude journal for your mental health. These are best done after you wake up as they give you a positive enough mindset to start the day.

You can also include workouts such as a 20 – 30 mins jog and some yoga to help your physical health. I recommend that the exercises be short to give you enough time to carry out your priority activities. You can then have a longer workout session after these activities are done.

  • Wake up early

A good tip to increase your morning routine is to wake up early as it allows you the space you need to properly start off your day.

This is especially important if you have kids because waking up before them gives you time to get into the right frame of mind before tending to their needs. Trust me, you don’t want kids waking you up in the morning because you could get snappish and grumpy from being woken up to immediately jump into work.

In the interest of getting enough sleep, you should consider sleeping at a time that will ensure you get enough rest even if you wake up early. To find the right time, experiment over a period to see which works for you.

  • Engage in a self-care routine

After most of the morning activities have been cleared out of your schedule, you should consider getting some self-care done.

You don’t have to do them every day but doing them two to three times a week can really refresh your mind and give you the energy to get through the week. This is why self-care is on basically every morning routine of the world’s most successful people.

Some self-care activities you can do include:

  • Exercising .
  • Taking a long bath.
  • Reading a book.
  • Engaging in your hobbies .
  • Give an allowance for chang e

One very important piece of advice on how to stay productive and motivated with your morning routine is to make sure that your routine is flexible enough to incorporate other activities as time goes on.

It is simply impossible to do the same things every day because people grow – that’s what we do. And with this growth comes different activities.

For instance, you can have different morning routines depending on the season of the year. You could even get a whole new routine if there is a lifestyle change, such as you giving birth or your children becoming self-sufficient enough that they don’t need you for certain activities.

Your routine should match your lifestyle, so if that changes, so should your routine.

  •  Avoid distractions

A healthy and productive habit in your morning routine that you need to develop is the willpower to avoid distractions. Getting through your morning routine requires avoiding procrastination, which comes when you get distracted.

If it means that you don’t engage in things that will distract you until you’re completely done with the morning routine, then that’s what you should do.

Top distractions include social media and watching some series. You can limit these by suppressing the urge to get on your phone as soon as you wake up. Seeing as social media can be an important source of information, experts recommend that you check it out early in the day but not stay too long on it.

  • Remain consistent

A productive morning routine for a housewife or working woman is completely useless if there isn’t consistency. As Robin Sharma says, “consistency is the mother of mastery, and persistence is how you get to legendary.”

Routines are best when you keep at them because your body gets used to them. You don’t have to jump into one right away, and truth be told, it’s best you go slow. Start off with some activities on the routine and then ease into others as time goes on.

Productive Morning Routine for a Working Woman

  • List activities you need to do

A morning routine is an order of activities that you need to do in the morning, so to create one, you need to know what activities you need to do. As a working woman, your time is limited before you have to rush off to work, which means you are likely to forget certain activities because of time constraints.

Listing the things you have to do, therefore, comes in handy in helping you remember everything you need to do and when you need to do them.

To make life easier, you should separate the priority activities from the less important ones and focus on doing those first. Finishing off the priority activities before work will give you peace of mind even if you didn’t complete the more mundane ones.

  • Wake up early

Waking up early doesn’t mean waking at 4am, 5am, or 6am for a productive and successful morning routine. No. Rather, it is best to wake up relative to your work schedule. A person who has to get to work by 8 am doesn’t define “early” in the same way as someone whose work starts at 10 am.

Generally speaking, you should wake up about 2 hours before you have to go to work. This gives you time to knock off priority activities from your list and prepare for work. It also gives you time to do pre-work prep, such as replying to emails and planning out your workday.

Also equally important is that you don’t wake up so early that you feel sleepy during the day. This means that you should sleep early enough during the night to get enough rest by morning. Feel free to experiment with different wake-up times to see which works best for you.

  • Engage in personal activities

A morning routine that can change your life will not be effective if it doesn’t leave an allowance for your personal growth.

Mentally and physically healthy people stand the best chance of keeping up with a routine, so you should strive to be healthy too.

You can do this by engaging in prayer, yoga, and meditation. Also, throw in a workout depending on how much time you have. Feel free to also take a shower or a bath, depending on which improves your mood best.

  •  Eat a good breakfast

If there is such a thing as the anatomy of a perfect morning routine, it would definitely include having a good breakfast. You’ve just woken up from sleep, and your body needs energy to engage in the day’s activities, and this energy comes from breakfast.

Also, depending on how busy your work gets, breakfast might be the only sensible meal you have all day till you get back from work. It is therefore important that you have a balanced breakfast before you leave.

Pro tip – come up with a breakfast schedule that includes balanced diets and add it to your routine so that you don’t have to waste time thinking of what to have for breakfast.

  • Plan out your workday

Yes, I know, more planning. While this can be a drag, it is a fact that certain activities work best when planned out, and work is one, especially when you’re an entrepreneur.

Mornings are a perfect time to plan out what you hope to accomplish at work during the day and when you need to achieve them. This allows you to dive into work easier because you would have a clearer picture of what you have to accomplish.

  • Avoid distractions

You probably don’t have the time to get distracted in the mornings, so it’s best that you don’t get involved in things that can distract you, such as watching series or using social media.

It is, however, important that you do things that calm you down and get you ready for the day and if this involves watching an episode of something or reading a couple of tweets and posts, then go for it.

Set some time limits on this, though, so you don’t take too much time on them. A good way to do this is to set screen times that govern the times you are on your devices and when you should be off them to focus on other activities.

How To Be A “Good” Housewife In The Modern Era

The term housewife has come to have a negative connotation in the 21st century. Still, the origin of housewife duty can be traced back to the Industrial Revolution. When people moved out of agrarian societies and into modern cities, women faced new roles in society. With this new modern lifestyle, the definition of housewife came about: a woman who stays home and tends to the children and house while her husband works in an industry-based job for forty or more hours a week. Whether they go by the name of housewife, homemaker, or stay-at-home mom, the housewife definition has certainly changed over the past century or so.

Whether this is a result of skewed reality television, the prominence of feminism in current times, or some other idealization that being a housewife is no longer relevant, this role has become stigmatized in many circles. Women in the 1930s were expected to be housewives; the idea of working outside the home was frowned upon. They were expected to prioritize their home and family over everything else, especially a career. However, in the 21st century, the role of a housewife may be making a comeback, just as we thought it had nearly gone away for good.

While housewives or stay-at-home mothers are becoming common again, it is not the same situation as women who lived back in the early to mid-1900s. Identifying the differences between the two could shine some light on how to be a good housewife in the modern era. It will also allow you to set some expectations for yourself and your marriage, so that knowing who is supposed to be doing which tasks does not become a marital concern. Communicating these kinds of expectations in a marriage may be the best way to avoid issues in your relationship early on.

Expectations of a housewife

You might be wondering how different the duties of a modern housewife might be from the role of housewife in the past. After all, domestic duties like cooking, cleaning, and keeping the children entertained seem to remain constant no matter what year it is. If you have a social media presence, you might have seen how different those tasks can be when the excerpt from a 1950s home economics textbook made its rounds online. The domestic duties of a housewife and mother outlined in the textbook were enough to make most contemporary women roll their eyes.

By understanding what it takes to be a modern housewife, you may begin to understand some of what previous women experienced in the role. However, many traditional housewife tasks have changed with the times. Identifying those changes could help you to decide the kind of housewife you desire to be today.

Clean the house

Traditional roles dictated that while the man is holding a full-time job outside of the house, the woman is holding a full-time job within the house. This meant that a housewife was responsible for laundry, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping the floors, doing the dishes, not to mention cooking and cleaning up any clutter or toys left around the house. While it could depend on the specific household, many housewives did some of these tasks daily (such as laundry) and others weekly (like dusting).

A recent study shows that, on average, women spend  17 hours a week  doing housework. This could change from housewife to housewife. For example, a married woman with more than three children typically spends 28 hours a week accomplishing the same tasks. With the baby boomer generation being born in the late 1940s to early 1960s, many households had more than three children. More kids mean more laundry, dishes, and messes in general, so a mother to several children will stay even busier as a stay-at-home mother and housewife.

It would be logical to think that modern technology has helped to cut down on those many hours of housework needed to tend house. The housewives of the past did not have robot vacuums, dishwashers, or high capacity washing machines, for example. While the innovations used in the modern era have saved time and energy for homemakers, not everything has become easier. Consider the following examples.

Serving meals

Like traditional housewives, modern-day housewives are usually responsible for meals. While there are some services available today that were not available years ago like meal subscription boxes, for example, it may still up to the housewife to cook the food.  And meal planning in the 21st century has become a whole other entity. There were far fewer options in the past, for one. Plus, the cost of healthy food was far less, even considering the increase in wages and the cost of living overall.

Because of the cost of healthy options, many housewives today may be forced to choose between cost and quality. This might mean making one or two low-cost meals for the week and a handful of pricier but healthier meals. With the planning involved in the modern era, housewives can spend far more time preparing for meals than they did in previous years.

An efficient homemaker in the modern era might have meals planned out before going grocery shopping. This way, she can control the grocery budget and be fully prepared to cook the meals throughout the week. By doing this, a housewife can also estimate the time needed to prepare dinner, thus allowing her to create a productive schedule. A schedule may be a key aspect of maintaining the home and managing other domestic duties.

Taking care of the kids

No matter the era, a housewife is often responsible for taking care of the children. While her partner is at work, a stay-at-home mother is left to care for her kids. Often, when people talk about what they want in a good wife, looking after the kids is part of their criteria. This usually means ensuring that they are fed, bathed, dressed, and  have structured activities to do throughout the day. Although some housewives of the 21st century could fall into the trap of  plopping their children in front of the television , a conscientious homemaker might organize a variety of activities and play dates with other children.

When the children are school-aged, a housewife might be responsible for making lunches and ensuring that they are prepared for school and extracurriculars. She may take them to and from school or their activities. A textbook housewife may also play the role of guidance counselor or therapist from time to time.

Although housewives may have been responsible for keeping children away from Dad in the past so that he could relax after work, parenting in the modern era is usually more of a team effort. Today's housewife communicates with her partner and parents alongside them.  Although her partner might be tired from a long day at work, it’s generally recognized that a full-time housewife will also be tired from a long day of caring for the house and kids.

Spend one-on-one time with your spouse

A significant difference between traditional housewives and today's housewives is their interaction with their spouses. A 1950s home economics textbook may have instructed housewives to allow their husbands to relax and let them have quiet time when he returns home from work. It might also advise that the wife not pile her problems on her husband and instead, be a sounding board for him.

Married couples in the modern era tend to do better with communication. Today, it is widely recognized that while a man should be able to talk to his wife about his problems and concerns, a wife should be able to do the same with her husband.

Being a good housewife in today's world

Times have changed. For a while, that meant being a housewife was uncommon and even looked down upon in some cases. Fortunately, times are changing yet again. Society is becoming more open to the idea of mothers staying at home with their children or wives staying at home to keep up with the house. With the cost of daycare these days, it might be the best option for many families.

Whether you work full-time or stay at home, navigating the domestic duties within a relationship can be challenging. Therapy is a popular option for couples experiencing difficulties in this area. Still, making time for yet another in-person appointment can seem impossible if you already have a hectic family schedule. In these cases, online therapy could prove a more convenient alternative. This form of therapy can be accessed from home or anywhere you have an internet connection. Plus, appointment slots are available around the clock.

Web-based therapy is a legitimate form of therapy backed by science. One recent study found that therapy delivered via videoconferencing is effective not only for individuals but for couples and families as well.

Remember, being an effective housewife in this century could mean a variety of different things. Some priorities might include keeping the house clean, the kids fed and entertained, making well-rounded meals, and maintaining a relationship with your spouse. Ultimately, though, you get to decide for yourself what role works best for you and your family. If you find that you need guidance and support along the way, the compassionate and trained counselors here at Regain are here to help.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Is being a housewife easy?

This will depend heavily on your situation. For example, being in a complicated financial situation might make being a housewife very stressful, or having a special needs child, or choosing to homeschool. There are many circumstances that could make your role as a stay at home mom/ wife more complex.

Being an American housewife is full of tasks that can make the role a bit overwhelming. If you have children, the number of extracurricular activities American school possesses may pose some stress for a young housewife. Taking kids to school, home from school, to however many activities they have after school, and home from those activities can make time at home to do work more sparse or broken. That being said, when first adapting to the stay at home role, there will surely be a transition time before you get comfortable with the routine you have and the schedules your children have.

Is being a housewife good?

There is absolutely no problem with being a housewife if that is what you want to do and it is financially feasible for you.

The only problems would arise if you make major life decisions, such as staying home with your kids or leaving a job, based on external pressure rather than “following your heart” so to speak. Maybe you feel external pressure from a partner, a job, your friends, and societal expectations, but do not let them influence your decision to stay home or pursue a career. That is an intimately personal decision to make, and you should not need to apologize for it or explain it.

But remember that feminism, and women’s rights, are centered around choice. That means that in an equal society, women have the right to choose the life they want, rather than having those decisions dictated for them by lawmakers, bosses, or other authority figures.

Being a stay at home mom/wife is fulfilling an important role in the fabric of society. Contributing to a job or career with a skill that you excel in is an important role in the fabric of society. Just remember, that choice is yours, not anyone else’s.

What makes a good housewife?

According to the English dictionary, a housewife is “ a married woman in charge of a household .” This definition is open to a lot of interpretation regarding what is considered household matters. Nevertheless, this more modern English translation below will list a few different stay at home tasks that a good housewife might adhere to:

  • Cooking meals
  • Taking care of the pets/children (if any are had)
  • Transporting children to school and/or extra-curricular activities
  • Supporting her family/household members
  • Doing laundry
  • Educating your children and helping with homework or homeschool

A more traditional image of a housewife may also include using a sewing kit to stitch up any worn and torn materials in the house. This image usually included a woman carrying around a small sewing kit in her dress pockets for those emergency sewing projects that just couldn’t wait. Additional tasks may be incorporated depending on your unique family and household.

Beyond that, remember that taking care of yourself means a happier household for the whole family. For you, maybe being a good mother and wife means maintaining an exercise routine, investing in interior design, signing up for a boxing class, maintaining an active and fulfilling social life, or more. Before worrying about perfectly fulfilling the role of a good housewife, prioritize instead being the best version of yourself that you can be.

What is the politically correct term for a housewife?

Stay at home mothers  tends to be the preferred term for housewife. For similar reasons that are stated in “Is being a housewife good?” the term housewife itself tends to have a negative connotation for some people. Nevertheless, the term is not considered derogatory and  can  be used. Just be aware that some people may take offense to the diction.

Who is happier, a housewife or working wife?

According to a  survey , the role of housewife is favored more than a career woman who must work outside the home. While many people may prefer to be stay at home mothers/wives, the reality is that being a housewife does not provide an income. That being said, a woman faced with financial pressures may need to give up the much-preferred role of being a stay at home mother/wife in order to provide for her family.

Which is better, a housewife or career woman?

Neither a housewife nor a career woman is particularly “better” than the other. The position depends entirely on how you would like your life to live your life and support your family. If you are happy staying at home and running your family/household, caring for your family, and raising your children, then being a housewife would be better for you. If you are an ambitious woman who wants to keep busy, make an income, and insert oneself into a career, then being a career woman may suit you best. It all depends on your individual circumstances and preferences.

The only important thing is that you do not make decisions based on outside pressure. That might be outside pressure from a partner, a job, or even your girlfriends. If you want to be a housewife, be a housewife! If you want to be a career woman, go for it! Just never let anyone make you feel inferior for your decisions.

Please read “Who is happier, a housewife or working wife?” for additional details to consider.

What can I do as a stay at home wife?

Being a stay at home housewife (as stated in the English dictionary/English language definition of “housewife” in “What makes a good housewife?”) involves many tasks/chores to complete while home. These tasks may include the basics like cooking for the family, cleaning the house, gardening, maintaining the lawn, taking care of the children, supporting her husband, taking care of any pets, transportation of kiddos, etc.

There are surely other tasks a stay at home mother/wife could do such as getting involved in their children’s school activities as a chaperone/supervisor, taking care of older parents who may live in or near the household, and/or joining community organizations. Please read “What makes a good housewife?” for more information.

What housewife can do at home?

A housewife can basically do whatever she needs to do to run a clean, smooth, functioning, and prosperous family and household. This may include (but are not limited to) a number of activities described in “What makes a good housewife?” and “What can I do as a stay at home wife?” Depending on the size and type of family you have, these tasks may vary slightly.

If you chose to do so, you could be a part-time housewife who works part of the day and is home to run the house during the rest of the day. There is also the possibility of being home while working a job with flexible hours. This would allow some flow of income as well as the household to be maintained all from the comforts of the same location.

Why is housewife undervalued?

Labor that is typically completed by women, especially in the home, tends to be  undervalued and sometimes even unpaid .

Housewives can be undervalued by spouses and society because of the past stereotypes into which women were forced. These stereotypes assumed that women could not and should not be involved in social, political, economic, etc. types of business because of their lack of knowledge and engagement in society. Now, housewives may still be undervalued because of their lack of income or adherence to historical stereotypes. A housewife could also be undervalued by her spouse because of the seemingly “trivial” work she must complete during the day in comparison to her husband’s work in society.

Think about it this way: If you were not arranging the house, how much would your household have to spend on a cleaning service? If you were not raising your children, how much would you have to spend on childcare, tutors, chauffeurs, etc.? If you were not cooking, how much would a chef cost?

The value of the things you do every day for your family would cost tens of thousands of dollars if you were not taking care of them.

If anyone tries to belittle you for your role in your household, remind them that instead of one job, you juggle about ten different roles, and you do it all for free.

How do housewives keep busy?

Housewives keep busy through plenty of household tasks and schedules which must be maintained. These tasks involve the basic functions of a house: cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, taking care of and transporting children, outdoor work, taking care of fellow family members and pets if need be, etc. Further details can be found in “What makes a good housewife?” Additionally, a housewife must maintain multiple schedules other than her own.

Generally, she must maintain her children’s schedules be them school-related, sports-related, and/or socially-related. A housewife must also maintain her husband’s schedule, ensuring that dinner is cooked upon his return home from work and even joining or bringing him lunch during his lunch hour. Though a housewife’s description does not technically involve these errands, a housewife and family woman may also need to take parents/relatives to doctor appointments or run with them for their own household errands if they need assistance.

Is it ok to be a homemaker?

It is definitely okay to be a homemaker if that position is financially and emotionally suitable for you. Ultimately, homemakers are always present in a family. The difference is found in the full-time and part-time roles these homemakers have. While some families may have full-time homemakers working constantly to maintain order in their house and family, others have multiple part-time homemakers (a mother and a father) working to keep order depending on their work schedules. That being said, whether you are full-time or part-time is completely acceptable as long as you are happy with your role choice.

How can I be the perfect housewife?

There is no standard for being the perfect housewife. At the end of the day, you will need to practice plenty in order to ensure everything that  your  household needs and complete that to the degree you believe is best. The modern English translation of being a housewife does not mean that you cannot be an active community member or figure in society. If you are able to run your house well and efficiently, then feel free to do more than just household tasks. For more information regarding at-home tasks, please read “What makes a good housewife?”

I have a daily routine that starts early at 5 am and ends with planning the next day's work at 10 pm. I wake up at five and study till 7. I eat my breakfast at 8 am and leave for school at 8:30. 200 Words Essay on My Daily Life (My Daily Routine Essay)

“ We are what we repeatedly do ,” says my dad daily quoting Aristotle. According to him, following a daily routine consistently will help me achieve my goals. He says that by planning my day and following it, I can complete all my work on time, avoiding pressure and being more productive.

My Daily Routine

Halfway, my friends join me. After lunch, I prefer light walking and freshening up for the afternoon study session. Classes end by 3:30 pm. After school, I go to the playground with my basketball team, where we practise for 2 hours, and I reach home by 6 pm. I finish my homework before supper.

Before going to bed, I prepare for the next day at school. Weekends are more relaxed. Mornings are usually spent cycling with friends. Afternoons, I help my mother grocery shop and cook in the kitchen. In the evening, I visit my grandma and have dinner with her.

If you’re an English as an additional language learner, being able to talk about your daily routine in English is essential to get other people to know you better. While there may be many routine activities that we all do such as brushing our teeth, going to school/work, and watching tv, other daily activities can tell a lot about our personalities. Imagine you get to know someone who likes watching comedies at home on weekends, and someone who likes going to nightclubs on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s not difficult to see that while the former is more laid-back, the latter is more of a party animal. Daily routine activities can reflect much about our personalities. Learn how to talk about every single daily routine activity in English below!

Daily routine activities in English

An example of a text about daily routine activities.

During the week, I always wake up at 7.30 a.m. The first thing I do is turn off the alarm on my cell phone. After that, I quickly check my social media and my email inbox. Then, I get up, have breakfast, brush my teeth, get dressed, and comb my hair. I start work at 8 a.m. I can wake up at 7.30 a.m. because I work and study from home. When I’m ready to start work, I turn on my laptop. I teach English classes and study all day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. I only stop working and studying to have lunch at about 2 p.m. In the evenings, after finishing everything I have to do, I go running in a park near my house. It’s my time to relax! I love listening to music or podcasts when I’m running. When I come back home, I usually watch some tv shows, have dinner, take a shower, brush my teeth, get into my pajamas, and finally go to bed. I set the alarm for 7.30 a.m. The next day, I start everything again.

On the weekends, however, I don’t work or study. I usually wake up late, talk to my family and my friends, watch tv shows, play video games, and read books. Sometimes, I eat out. I love Japanese food, so I choose a new Japanese restaurant to try the food there. I also love going to the theater, museums, the mall, or to the movies, too. Sometimes, I go out with my friends in the evening. There’s nothing to worry about because I don’t have a specific time to go to bed on Fridays and Saturdays!

My Daily Routine Essay

I prepared my daily routine with the help of my mother and father. I will share my daily activities and the experience I gain from them in this essay.

I am a morning person and consider it the most productive time of the entire day. In the morning, nature looks so calm and peaceful. Even my parents and teachers suggested waking up early in the morning. I respected their suggestion and followed it.

So, I get up at 6 a.m., brush my teeth, and wash my face with water. After that, I go for a quick stroll in the park. I consider a morning walk essential for a healthy lifestyle. I walk for almost half an hour and also do some exercise. After doing the morning walk, I come back home and freshen up. It keeps me strong and active for the entire day.

Then I eat my breakfast, and after that, I study Science and Maths in the morning. I consider morning the best time to study, and it helps you memorise the concepts and topics efficiently.

School Time

Around 9 a.m., I get ready to go to school. My father drives me to school, and at around 1 p.m., I get my lunch break after four continuous classes. My school gets over by 4 p.m., and my mother comes to pick me up. Every day, she comes because it takes 20 minutes to reach my home from my school by car. I love going to school and learning new things.

For me, school time is the best time. I get to spend time with my friends and play games during recess. My best friend’s name is Anne; she always stands beside me in good and bad times. I love her so much and will never break my friendship with her. To me, she’s more than just a friend, she’s my family.

Eat and Sleep Routine

When I go to school, I carry my lunch with me. I have my lunch during recess. My mother knows what I love and prepares lunch accordingly. My favourites are pizzas and burgers but my mom doesn’t let me eat from outside. So, she prepares it by herself and I love the food she cooks.

At night I watch TV with my family for some time, and around 10 p.m., I go to bed. When I go to bed, I think about my entire day, and sometimes I read novels or story books.

Holiday Routine

When it’s vacation time, my daily routine differs. I get a lot of spare time. I spend time playing video games, going out with friends and family, and visiting my grandparents. Sometimes I enroll myself in summer vacation camps.

Conclusion of Daily Life Essay

That’s all about my daily routine. I always try to follow this routine. But sometimes, I need to bring some changes to the routine. And when I spend holidays and off days from school, I can’t follow this routine. I think this routine is helping me to use my time efficiently and to complete my study tasks correctly.
