This blog post will aim to provide you with tips on how to score well in this section of MUET by providing an example of an essay topic along with guidelines on how it should be written.

What is MUET writing in Malaysia?

The MUET writing test is challenging- students have to transfer information from a non-linear source and write an essay of at least 350 words on the topic given.

MUET Essay Writing Format

MUET is a challenging exam because it includes writing within the Academic Writing Format. For many students, this format may be unfamiliar and difficult to understand or execute in their answers at test time so they don’t score well on that section of MUET.

This difficulty can come from being unaware of how academic writing differs from other forms such as creative or personal essays which are more common formats for essay questions outside of the MUET testing space.

1. Introduction paragraph:

Introduce your topic to the reader.

  • Use catchy lines, questions, brief definitions, etc.
  • Must have a thesis statement a statement which consists of the main big ideas
  • Never use: “research or study” use words like on the basics of my readings, in my opinion, as this is essay writing, not a research paper.
  • Never use: “ can be defined as” use words like “In my opinion, I believe that, etc.”

2. Body paragraph:

Body paragraph: must have 3 paragraphs.

  • State the main idea
  • Often written as the first sentence of each paragraph
  • Supporting details and ideas
  • Examples, elaborations, explanations,s, and descriptions can also be included
  • Must support the main idea discussed in this particular body/body paragraph
  • Use linkers, connectors, and transition words.

Conclusion paragraph:

  • Restate the main idea
  • Use words like hence, therefore, thus, as a result.
  • Write it like it is the last sentence of the paragraph.

3. Concluding paragraph:

  • Bring the ending of things that you have discussed earlier.
  • Restate your thesis statements.
  • The conclusion must have 4 sentences
  • You may suggest, give opinions or reaffirm your stand
  • Use words: To conclude, to summarize, as a conclusion, finally, lastly, eventually, to encapsulate.

Tips to write MUET Essay for Malaysian Students

The best way to write a MUET essay is to have a succinct thesis in the introduction and also be cognizant of transitions between one topic and another.

Moreover, it’s important to know your audience when you’re writing an essay for MUET. One key point which is usually overlooked by students is having knowledge about the specific subject they’re talking about.

  • Transfer information
  • Use good grammar
  • Carefully analyze the graphical information
  • Give your opinion
  • Think critically
  • If you’re aiming at scoring Band 5 or higher, then critical thinking is a must.
  • If your aim is to score Band 5 or higher on the exam, it’s time for some serious rigor and reflection.

Use these tools to help with critical thinking: Short term, mid-term and long term effects

  • Example: Alcohol
  • Short term: yellow teeth/bad breath
  • Mid-term: waste of money
  • Long term: Health problems such as cancer
  • Individual, society, and government
  • Individual: Set goals and prepare for change
  • Society: Must not encourage one to consume alcohol.
  • Government: Must stop fundraising

Types of MUET Essays

MUET essays are usually of the expository type, they can also be argumentative or persuasive.

  • While an essay with a descriptive header generally has a focus on what is being described.
  • An essay with a narrative header (or “story”) generally puts a priority on how something was done or what it felt like to do it and the completion
  • And an informative-explanatory (inform + explain) header offers treatment or analysis of existing data, facts, practices, etc.
  • Persuasive essay questions require you to take up a position on an issue and then persuade or convince the reader about your viewpoint based upon evidence. These can come in the form of anecdotes, facts, statistics etcetera
  • Expository Essays are different from other types of essays in that they don’t require any persuasion but instead simply look for evidence supporting or disproving what you have been told/asked about.

Importance of MUET essay

You will be required to take the MUET test if you are planning on pursuing your university degree at local public university.

However, note that this requirement is not compulsory for those who wish to pursue their education outside of these institutions and choose instead to study at private schools or international ones (MUET tests are only necessary when applying for scholarships).

Remember also, that different universities may have different English proficiency requirements so make sure you check what they need before sending off an application.

The grading system for MUET

When students get their MUET result, they’ll be able to see the mark for each paper and then an overall score. Band 1 is when the student will have to take two extra English courses during holiday time; a Band 3 or 4 means one course more than this. If you’re in bands 5 or 6- excellent! You don’t need any additional lessons over the summer holidays whatsoever.

MUET Writing Tips And All You Need To Know About MUET Paper 4

objective paper

Image by Nguyen Dang Hoang Nhu

What Is MUET?

MUET stands for Malaysian University English Test. It is an English proficiency test usually taken by pre-university students who intend to pursue a degree programme at a local university. If you’re currently an STPM, Matriks or Asasi student, odds are you’ve heard of this test!

Like most English proficiency tests, MUET evaluates the four language skills that are split into four different papers.

Paper 1: Listening

Paper 2: Speaking

Paper 3: Reading

Paper 4: Writing

Each paper carries an equal weightage of 25%. The highest score you can get is a MUET Band 6 which represents the average scores of all four components. In this article, we’re focusing on Paper 4 of the MUET which assesses your writing skills. Read on as we share our favourite MUET writing tips to help you prepare for the test!

MUET Writing Tips

Muet writing tip 1: know the format.

The first thing to do is to familiarise yourself with the MUET writing format. You are required to write two essays and the total time allocated for this paper is 75 minutes.

MUET Writing Test

Task 1

In Task 1, you are required to write a reply of at least 100 words to the letter or email given in the appropriate style. You will also need to address or use all of the notes given in the question. You should spend around 25 minutes on this task since it’s quite a short essay.

Depending on the task, the language you use can be formal or informal. For example, if you’re asked to write an email to a friend, the language can be more informal while a letter to your school would require a more formal tone.

For Task 2, you are required to write an essay of at least 250 words long. You are advised to spend around 50 minutes on this task. Similar to an SPM essay, your essay should include an introduction, three body paragraphs and a conclusion.

The essay question is usually in the form of a statement that sets out an idea or a problem and you will be required to respond to it with your own thoughts and opinions. For example, you might be asked to discuss a topic, provide arguments or suggest solutions to a problem. In this essay, you must expand on your points with elaborations, examples and supporting information. Additionally, click here for our article on persuasive essays that you may find useful for this task.

MUET Writing Tip 2: Understand Your Goal

Next, you should know what you are being assessed on and what MUET band you need to achieve. For the writing paper, you will be assessed on how well you fulfilled the tasks, the organisation and structure of your essays as well as the vocabulary that you’re using.

Different universities and courses have different MUET requirements so make sure you check what are the minimum requirements for the degrees that you’re interested in. As your total score across the four components will determine your MUET band, it’s important to ensure that you perform consistently on all four papers to achieve a higher band.

Once you know the score or band that you’re aiming for, you can then work towards achieving that by following our other MUET writing tips below.

MUET Writing Tip 3: Practice Sample Questions

notebook

If you notice, the MUET essay questions are pretty similar to the ones in the SPM paper so that is a plus for you already! While it can be nerve-wracking to sit for an English proficiency test, remember that you already have the basics covered.

However, practice makes perfect! The best way for you to prepare for your MUET and achieve the scores you need is to practice answering sample questions. You can find a sample of the MUET paper on the Malaysian Examinations Council official portal which you can find here .

On the same portal, you would also find a very detailed and comprehensive booklet with all the information that you might need to sit for the MUET. Make sure you don’t skip this MUET writing tip! You can also find information such as the dates for MUET sessions, the cost for the test and how to register for it.

MUET Writing Tip 4: Identify Strengths And Areas For Improvement

When you’re practising writing your MUET essay, try to think about what went well and what you need to improve on. You can ask yourself the questions below as prompts to help you identify your strengths and areas for improvement.

Which essay do I find easier to write? Why?

Do I find it helpful to outline my ideas before I write?

Are my essays clear and well-organised?

Do I find it easy or difficult to write the introduction or conclusion?

Do I provide enough elaboration and examples in my body paragraphs?

Do I use a mix of simple and complex sentences in my essay?

Do I often make grammar or spelling mistakes?

Reflecting on the prompts above should hopefully give you a better idea of what you should work on to achieve the scores you want for your MUET.

MUET Writing Tip 5: Time Yourself

quicksand

While some of you might be tempted to go above the suggested word count, we recommend that you don’t stray too far away from it. Although there are no stated penalties for writing more, you only have a limited amount of time during the test so use it wisely. Writing too much may cause you to run out of time or make unnecessary mistakes in your essay.

Hence, to write a good MUET essay, you should focus on quality over quantity. Just make sure that you address all the task requirements within your essay.

MUET Writing Tip 6: Always Proofread

Lastly, always remember to proofread or check your essays after you’ve written them. This would allow you to correct any mistakes you might have done, particularly spelling and grammar mistakes. Furthermore, if you find anything in your essay that is unclear, you can try to rephrase it. If there are points that are missing elaborations or examples, you can add more information.

  • 2. The War on Drugs Essay The War on Drugs To fully understand the significance and the seriousness of a War one must first fully understand the reasons that caused it in the first place. In this specific case the solution begins with several important yet seemingly simple questions...What is marijuana? How is it used? And why is it so coveted and widely distributed in Jamaica as well as the rest of the world?... All these questions help clarify the reasoning behind the war on drugs and further investigation shows how Jamaica ends up being an important country in this puzzle as well. Lets begin with the first question, (What is marijuana), of course the dictionary definition is simply put, a preparation of the hemp plant, Cannabis sativa, for use as an ... Therefore, marijuana (because it fits into this category) can be a very profitable in its import and export for a country even if it is outlawed as illegal. One country that has struggled endlessly with this drug, its illegal usage, and decriminalization is Jamaica. Using Jamaica as a model for the more in depth study of the war against drugs proves to be most interesting in that Jamaica has had a long and economically fluctuating history with marijuana. Henceforth, to lead us into the study of Jamaica and its legalization and decimalization of marijuana that can be used on both a large and small scale we turn to a reliable inside source of Jamaican journalist. Where they discover that the strong marijuana presence in Jamaica has been an issue which has sparked some controversy and questioning, regarding the decriminalization of marijuana amongst not only Jamaicans but people all over the world. Many people have asked the question, how can marijuana be so abundant and openly used in a country and yet not be legal or at least decriminalized? Changes of Weaponry and Warfare during the Middle Ages During the Middle Ages, or also known as the Medieval Ages, change was a major part of that period. Europe was watching war become much different. In the older times, a few thousands of troops were considered a large army. Nowadays, nobody has ever seen such size of an army with such variety in weapons including guns, munitions, and artillery that were all developed during that period. Besides, it was obvious that the face of warfare was changing by the end of the fifteenth century. Two of the most significant developments were the maintaining of a fair amount of troops on a permanent basis at the ready, and the rising need of gunpowder weapons and munitions. The great helm had been introduced by the thirteenth century and it covered the head and the face with extra protection (Hilliam 19). It wasn t too long until the great helm was replaced by the bascinet. It was similar to the great helm although it was a more closely fitted 5 Tran helmet with rounded surfaces to deflect blows. A removable or hinged visor was fitted to make breathing easier, and padding was riveted for additional comfort (Hilliam 20). By the middle of the fourteenth century, the chainmail was basically abandoned and plate armor was much more desired. It had glancing surfaces and it protected knights from arrows far better than the mail (Hilliam 32). But over time, knights seek more extensive armor and simultaneously, bigger horses were needed in order to carry the weight and bigger lances made from tree trunks (Hilliam 17). However, blacksmiths kept placing their focus into creating more developed plate armor and as plate armor did develop, Hilliam says that, it was less effective to slash an opponent and so knights tried to thrust through chinks ... Max Weber sThe Protestant Ethic And The Spirit Of Capitalism The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism Max Weber s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism gives meaning to the center of the capitalist culture. The capitalistic nature of society evolves from the Puritans. The Protestant Ethic was a dominant and established concept within their culture before the labeling of capitalismas an order was put into practice. This ethic found it morally permissible to obtain wealth for God, but not for flesh and sin (Weber, pg 435). The obedient Christians would drive for the opportunity to gain profit to fulfill their calling and be a steward for the Lord. Obtaining wealth as a result of temptation to idleness and sinful enjoyment of life (Weber, pg 435) and living without careful though was seen negatively, but the acquisition of wealth in the view of performing your duty as a good Christian was encouraged. Not pursuing wealth by not expanding in your talent was seen as disrespectful to God s glory, principally in the form of begging. By trying to pursue the spiritual goal of wealth, the acetic aspect of the Protestant Ethic allowed individuals to refrain from the pleasures of wealth by reasoning with their calling. The ascetic conduct related to the rational means behind the Puritans acquiring wealth with duty and religion in mind and for the purpose of the calling. Pornography fits in where people have the freedom of speech, life and the right to pursue happiness. While people are doing it by their own means and have the adequate age then pornography is all right. Transformational leadership starts with the development of a vision. This should be a view of the future that will grab the attention, excite and convert potential followers. Once the vision has been developed, you will have to constantly sell the vision. This will probably take a lot of energy and commitment, because few people will automatically believe in your vision. • 25. Analysis Of The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun By Geoffrey... Geoffrey Canada pens a book that is part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into inner city violence and the rules surrounding it. The book describes how his personal history with violence influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support them. Geoffrey Canada describes the progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime. He also points out that there is a disturbing difference between what the streets were like in the 1960s compared to those of today. As great storyteller, Geoffrey Canada is thoroughly convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation of violence and poverty in late 20th century here in America s inner cities. Of how he changed from a timid and frightened child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the streets, is written in a believable way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew up in the streets. All of his experiences first started when he was a child when he and his friends used their fists to settle disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the neighborhood. At times, those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Having grown up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, Mr. Canada brings you to a time when violence was ever present but guns were not. At that time there were a very few adult men in the neighborhood, and the police were of very little assistance. Not even old enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Poem By Billy Collins The poem Introduction to Poetry by Billy Collins, is about a teacher explaining to her students how to read and analyze poetry. Collins employs an abundance of figurative language, especially metaphors and images, to express the progressive steps taken to understand a poem for all that it encompasses. When beginning to read a poem, first we must look at the bigger picture, like we are working from the outside of the poem to the inside. Once we begin to understand the storyline, we must dive further into the poem, and analyze the types of words being used.. We further investigate by putting ourselves in the poem. Then, after having looked at the poem from the inside, we must reread it to realign with the big picture. By using metaphors, imagery, and syntax, Collins demonstrates how to analyze a poem. In an Introduction to Poetry, the teacher instructs the students to interpret the poem through close reading, showing them how to draw conclusions about the main idea. However, the poem is too complex and too difficult for the students to comprehend reading. The first stanzas of the poem tell the students to look at the bigger picture or key topic in the poem. By taking apart each metaphor, the students can uncover what the teacher is trying to instruct, and are able to understand how to read poetry for a full interpretation. In the first simile, the poem is the tenor, or the subject, and the color slide is the vehicle which elaborates a comparison. The color slide is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Plot Structures In The Wolves By Sarah Delappe Aristotle wrote the book called Poetics. In this book Aristotle talks about the six elements that make up a play. They are plot, character, idea, language, music, and spectacle. In any response of a play one should keep these six elements in mind. The Wolves was written by Sarah DeLappe and is a dramatic comedy. The first element we should talk about is plot; the plot structure for The Wolves is a variation. The two plot structures it is similar to the most are climatic and circular. In climatic plot structure the characteristics are few characters, few locations, late point of attack, and few plots. The Wolves share the characteristics of few characters, few locations (where they played their games), and a late point of attack (when number fourteen was killed). Circular plot structure characteristics are it ends where it began, and the expression of futility and meaninglessness of human effort. The Wolves also ended where it began (beginning of a soccer game). The actors who portrayed the characters in this adaptation of The Wolves did an excellent job. They were all how I pictured them in my head from they acted and how they looked too. Whether it was how number seven acted as a sarcastic bitch to the captain or when she was portraying her relationship with number fourteen. Another actress who I really liked in the playwas the actress who portrayed number double zero. I liked both of these actress because how real and serious they took their roles. For instance, the girl that played number seven when she was in her shouting match with her best friend number fourteen, after the weekend they had with the two boys, was spit in the face but kept going anyway. For double zero it look like she was actually going to throw up every time she acted like she needed to, to the point where when she would come back in view she would look even paler than she did before. The idea behind The Wolves is a portrait of liberty, life, and the pursuit of happiness for nine girls who just want to play some soccer. We can see this throughout the play whether it s when they are talking about serious issues like the Khmer Rougeor when they are all just goofing off eating orange slices. This is highlighted throughout The Scarlett Letter. Sin and revenge are symbolized by Pearl and nature in many instances throughout several different chapters. Sin is the most prominent and reoccurring theme in The Scarlett Letter. Opportunities arose due to Hester s husband being away for an extended period. After Hester committed adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale her life was forever changed and furthermore characterized by this theme. He could never escape his inner guilt for his sin with Hester but could not bring himself to publicly repent. Hester continued her series of poor choices by agreeing to keep the father of her baby a secret, so he would not be publicly punished and shamed. The theme continues when her husband arrives in town angry that she is pregnant, and she also promises to keep his identity a secret to the public. Her husband, Roger Chillingworth, is then overcome with anger and strives for revenge as he is seemingly possessed by evil. What are the different reactions of men and women to this kind of ads ? Introduction The exploitation of women in the media has been part of the advertising industry since its beginning, although the level to which women have been exploited has changed drastically. Advertising is a highly visible and seemingly controversial agent of socialization (Paff, Lakner, 1997). For example, the Swedish Bikini Team commercial for Old Milwaukee beer. In this commercial, large breasted blond women wearing bikinis were portrayed as fun companions brought in especially to party with very few men.. After Jordan kills the fascist who wanders near his sleeping bag, he is bothered by a constant feeling of guilt. It seems that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination to complete the very dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that they will probably not escape. The ultimate guide to score in MUET

To get a high band in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) or even the highest band which is the band 5+ will require you to excel in all the four papers.

This would inevitably involve improving your English language level on the whole. There is ofcourse a whole lot of things that you would need to do to achieve this.

So will improving your English language skill alone determine a high band in MUET? Well, unfortunately – no, not entirely. There are a number of other steps that you will need to take to secure the high band.

Before we go any further with the guide on how to do well in MUET, you would need to understand the test format first.

This is so that you would know what to expect during the test. Also, it will give you a guide on what and how to prepare for the paper. Other than that, knowing the format would also help you to identify which skills you would need to focus on more to score the high band.

The MUET test is made up of 4 components, which are namely the listening, speaking, reading and writing paper.

Each of these components carries a maximum score of 90 marks. So as you can see, all papers will carry the same importance. This is because each paper will make up 25% of the whole MUET test.

In other words, you would need to do well in all four papers because there is not one paper that will give you more marks than the other. When added up, all four papers will give you a total of 360 marks which is the maximum marks you can score for MUET.

Here are the different components of the test.

The listening test

The MUET listening test is paper 1 of the MUET test. For this test, you will have to  listen to different dialogues and a monologue. You will get to listen to the recording twice.

From your listening, you will then answer multiple-choice questions based on the audio. There is going to be a total of 30 questions for you to complete.

I would have to say that you will find some questions to be quite tricky. But do not worry too much about this. This is because If you happen to miss the answer from your first listening then focus on finding that answer when you listen to the audio the second time. Once you have selected the correct answer, you would need to indicate it on the OMR sheet.

The duration for the listening test is 90 minutes from start to finish. The total marks that you can get for the listening paper is 90 marks.

You can find oout more about the MUET listening paper here.

The speaking test

This is paper 2 of the MUET test. There are going to be two parts in the test. They are part 1 which is the individual presentation and part 2 which is the group discussion.

The duration of the test is 30 minutes from start to finish. The speaking test will test you on your ability to orally present your ideas on a given topic.

There will be four candidates in each session. They are candidates A, B, C and D.

For part 1, you will be presenting your ideas individually. Each candidate will get a different task to talk about based on one topic. All candidates will get two minutes to prepare for part one.

When all the four candidates have finished presenting in part 1, you will then move on to complete part 2 of the speaking paper. Part two requires you to have a discussion with the other candidates on a topic.

Each candidate will get the same question to answer. The questions will be in the form of a mind map.

Because this is the language paper, you will be tested on the sentences you use, the different vocabulary, the use of idioms, and generally how you present your ideas in a semi formal way.

The maximum marks you can get for this paper is 90 marks.

Find out more about the MUET speaking paper here.

The reading test

The reading component for MUET,  tests you on your ability to understand reading texts. These texts range from the less formal to the more formal types of writing.

There are 7 parts to the paper. For this test, you will need to read the texts and then answer multiple choice questions based on the different passages. There will be 40 questions for you to answer.

The duration of the test is 75 minutes. The maximum marks for the reading test is 90 marks.

The writing test

The MUET writing test is paper 4 of the test. There will be two tasks for you to answer. In task 1 you will need to write a reply to a letter or an email. Task 2 on the other hand will see you writing a response on one statement given on a topic.

This paper tests your ability to put forward your ideas in writing that will be suited for higher education.

The duration of this paper is in 75 minutes. In other words, you will only have one hour and 15 minutes to complete two writing tasks.

What this means is you will have to be able to manage your time wisely and brainstorm ideas that will help you in your writing. It is very important for you to be able to write a convincing piece of writing thta is also well structured.

Now that you already understand the test format, let’s move on to some tips and strategies that will guide you in getting a high band from MUET.

To get a band 5+ in MUET or close to it, you would need to:

1. Fulfil the task set

The very first thing that you would need to do to gain a high band for MUET is for you to fulfil the task given. To fulfil the task you would need to provide a response that will directly answer the question.

This is particularly important for the speaking and writing paper. The criteria an examiner will look out for when giving you marks for your response will be on whether you have fulfilled the task or not.

So how do you fulfil the task? To fulfil the task, you would need to do two things. First, you would need to read the question carefully. And second is for you to make sense of the question and understand what is required of you. This means giving a response that will directly answer the question.

I cannot stress this enough. It’s very important for you to first of all answer the question in a way that the question wants you to.

Now, because this is a language test for tertiary education, the language that you use will almost certainly determine the band that you will get.

Let’s look at what you can do to gain high marks for language use.

2. Vocabulary choice

Language use will make a large part of your marks in the speaking and writing paper. And one aspect of language use is your choice of vocabulary.

Your choice of vocabulary determines whether you will fall in the lower band or a higher band for MUET.

You would therefore need to have and use a wide range of vocabulary for the topics that you get. The use of a wide vocabulary will for sure help you give a very clear and accurate response to the questions.

Using a wide range of vocabulary that may fall under the category of low frequency words (LFW) helps in putting forward your ideas effectively. Your response to the task in the speaking test and the essays for the writing paper will sound more accurate and refined.

So what this means is for you to improve your list of vocabulary for certain topics. There are topics that keep recurring in the MUET test papers. Identify these topics.

Then take time to build a vocabulary list based on these topics. Make sure you know the meaning and how to use the words and phrases correctly in a sentence. This will certainly help you later on when sitting for the test.

3. Practise listening for details

I believe that for you to be able to answer the listening paper well is for you to get used to listening in English. On normal days, you would be listening to songs in English or watching English movies. Listening to these is very good practice.

Nevertheless, you should also practise listening for specific details. This could be done when you listen to the news and identify the specific information regarding the news. This is because the listening test will test you on listening for details, found in the recordings.

I would advise you to be comfortable in listening to texts in conversation in the English language. One way for you to get used to listening to English conversations is for you to listen to podcasts. You can find really good podcasts on different topics online for free.

Another way for you to get used to listening and identifying specific information is for you to actually complete some MUET listening test samples. In doing the test samples you will also get used to the format of the test. On top of that you will also familiarise yourself with how the questions are going to be asked.

4. Improving your pronunciation

Your pronunciation of words in English plays a very important role in the MUET speaking test. The MUET speaking test as the name suggests will test you on your ability to speak well in the language.

One of the criteria that shows a person could speak well in English is for them to be able to pronounce words correctly and clearly.

In the speaking test, examiners will want to hear you putting forward your ideas in a clear way, using correct English and getting the pronunciation right. Doing these can ensure that you will get high marks for language in the speaking test.

Therefore it is important for you to have a clear and accurate pronunciation.

5. Improve your reading skills.

There are certain reading skills that you will need to adopt and get used to, to do well in the reading paper. One such skill is listening comprehension. The listening comprehension is a skill whereby you are able to read, understand what the text is about and integrate the information with what you already know.

Sharpening, this skill is going to be very beneficial. In the reading test you would need to read long text and answer questions based on the texts. On top of that is that there are also time constraints.

What this means is you would need to get used to reading texts and locating the supporting details for the answers to the questions very quickly.

To be able to do this is for you to do extra practice on the reading test sample papers.

Unfortunately, there is no shortcut to this. You will need to put in the hard work to do well in the reading test.

6. Develop your writing skills.

The very last item that will guide you to get a high band in MUET is for you to be good in your writing.

The MUET writing test requires you to write a reply to an email or a letter for task 1. These seem to be easy enough. But you would also need to know how to properly answer the task.

So to ensure this, you would need to have the basic knowledge of how to respond to task 1 correctly.

Similarly, for task 2, which is the extended writing, you would need to be able to write in a convincing way. I could see students who do well in the writing test, have a basic understanding of how to write a proper introduction, content points, and the conclusion to the essay.

Apart from this, you would need to have an understanding of certain topics and be in touch with current issues that are happening around us. Presenting your ideas with the help of examples from current happenings will certainly improve your content marks.

What this means is that you would need to read the newspapers, read blogs on websites, and also listen to the news in English.

In conclusion, these are the number of ways where you can determine that you will secure a high band for MUETt and even gain the highest band, which is the band5+.
