Family Traditions Essay

My family has one interesting tradition. Each time we plan our vacation, everyone writes their destination ideas on paper. It is a great tradition because it allows us to see beautiful places, enjoy time together, and each one knows that their opinion matters. Last time we went to explore Alaska. It was my mother’s idea. I have never seen such beautiful views and landscapes. And it wasn’t as cold as I expected. We spent most of our time hiking, walking, and trying local restaurants. It is probably one of my favorite trips. A couple of years ago we just stayed at home. My older brother had just bought a new Xbox and wanted to spend most of his time with it. Although we wanted to travel that Christmas, it wasn’t a problem for us. We chose a Christmas tree, decorated it together, cooked many foreign dishes, and played Mark’s Xbox. I wanted to go to Disneyland so much when I was a child. It was unbelievable when I saw my handwriting on a piece of paper my father was holding. It felt like a fairytale. However, there were long lines in the amusement park, and we didn’t see everything we planned. But that doesn’t seem a problem to an eight-year-old kid. Even my older brother liked the trip. A tiny family tradition can lead to multiple adventures and exciting experiences. You can travel, explore new locations and communicate with each other. And it feels so nice to know that each family member is equal in vacation planning.

Half of my family originally comes from Germany. It’s the third generation of us in the United States. My grandparents moved here in the ’70s and faced many difficulties on arrival. It was hard for them to become fluent in English, get used to new customs, and stop missing their friends and relatives. Paul and Anna, in their mid-twenties at the time, were enjoying their family life in Munich. They already had one child, Nicole. Then Paul had an opportunity to obtain a new position in the American office as they were looking for people who knew English and were fluent in German. But the problem was that Anna didn’t know English at all, and Paul knew only the basics. They moved to Chicago. The company helped my grandfather find a place to live, but Anna faced the most difficulties. She had to buy groceries that seemed different from German ones, cook, clean, and look after their children. Anna spent most of her daytime alone as she had too many household chores and didn’t know anybody she could talk to except Paul. Anna missed her friends and family who stayed in Germany. His new job almost entirely consumed Paul, but he also felt homesick from time to time. Anna gave birth to their second child, Nick, my father. When both of their kids went to school and had more time to themselves, they finally felt at home in the United States. I love listening to my grandparents’ stories about Munich and moving to the USA. It took a lot of courage to move to a different continent and start their life from scratch. I also hope I will visit Germany one day so I can see their motherland.

What Does Family Mean to You Essay

My family, especially my parents, are the dearest people to me. I respect their wisdom and the way they treat others. Having a family means that you always have support, people you can trust, and unconditional love. I knew my mother would support my career choice even though it was untypical for my family. I have decided to become a photographer in a family of lawyers. She was happy that I finally decided what I wanted to do and told me that creativity always was one of my strengths. Family Definition Essay

A family might have different sets of values but still do their best to understand each other. There are three children in my family. My younger brother Kyle, my older sister Cathy, and me. We all have different hobbies and interests, but try to find common ground and spend time together. Cathy taught Kyle and me to play tennis, even though we are not huge sports fans. We had a great time learning and making jokes. It doesn’t mean that we didn’t take the game seriously. my favorite relative is my uncle John. He is always so kind and generous. He is much younger than my parents, so I can talk with him easily. When I was younger, my uncle used to take me to the park to play catch-balls. We often used to go camp in summer and go skiing in winter. Recently, when I hadn't decided the way I should go, it was my uncle John who recommended me to go to college. Besides, my uncle gave me $1000 as a part of college fees. I'm really lucky to have such a wonderful uncle.

I'd have to say my favorite relative is my sister Cathy. She's 10 years older than me, but when I was a little, she took me everywhere; for example, zoo, play-land, shopping. Of course, she treated me. However, seriously, when I am trouble, I ask her to give me some advise. She is in a position as a marketing manager in a famous company, and I hear she has a good reputation from her subordinates. I take her a eample as a life. Even when she is alone, she would always be humming a song to herself. My mother is not just a lovely person on the outside. She is also lovely on the inside. This is because she is very a responsible and selfless person. Born on January 18, 1954 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico; my mother was the only girl in her family. As such, she had so many duties and responsibilities in the house that she did not actually have enough time to enjoy her childhood.

However, this was always fine by her because it was in her nature to put others before her. Having many responsibilities also helped my mother to be to be independent ever since she was little. We often fought, argued and basically differed on almost everything. Looking at us, you would not believe that we were a mother and her daughter! To me, my mother was the problem. However, when I turned twenty I became a mother myself and that’s when I started seeing things differently. I started appreciating that my mother was simply trying to be the best mother she could be. She wanted me and my brothers to grow to be independent and responsible, just like her. She wanted to develop in us an attitude of never giving up so that we are well equipped to face the challenges of life that lay ahead. And now, thanks to my mother; I can bring up my own children with the same love and concern that she had for me. I am not afraid of being tough on them when I have to, because I know it is for their own good. Although they may not understand or even agree with everything I am doing right now, I believe they will one day give me a warm hug and thank me for everything I did for them. As someone once said, young girls often think their mothers are wrong. By the time they realize their mothers were right, they themselves will be having kids who will be thinking their mothers are wrong!”

Students create a video that names their favorite relative and supports their opinion with reasons and examples.

Many young learners are starting to express their opinions. You have likley heard them share claims like “I love pizza” or “Puppies are my favorite pet.”

Encourage students to think more deeply about the characteristics of people they love and how they can support and share their opinion about them through a digital story gift to them.

Begin by talking to students about the meaning of family. Students will easily share words like mom, dad, brother or sister. Some may even include extended family like grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins.

Write the word “family” on a classroom whiteboard or shared digital document to create an anchor chart with their ideas.

To highlight all the different ways families can look, ask students if they have families will all of the people you listed or only some of them. Or more than one sister, aunt, or grandparent.

Some students may have a concept of family that goes beyond people related to them. Ask students if they have anybody they consider “family” who may not be related to them, such as a parent’s friend from college who visits all the time.

Share Teaching Tolerance's definition of a family:

“a group of people going through the world together.”

Let students know that they will be creating to showcase the reasons a particular person is their favorite relative.

If your classroom includes children in foster care, or with other unique family situations, emphasize a broad definition of family or name the project Favorite Friend.

Once students have decided on their favorite person, have them complete a character traits or cluster graphic organizer to identify the characteristics that make that person special, and thus, someone they would like to honor.

You might prompt them with questions like:

• What qualities does this person have?
• What fun experiences have you had with this person?

Students should name the person in the middle and add words to describe the person and experiences they have had with them in the connected circles.

My favorite relative (friend) is “_______” is an easy way to state an opinion. The writing in this project focuses on the reasons and examples that back up that opinion without the need to persuade others to your view.

Give students an O-R-E-O graphic organizer to help them craft their writing, stating their Opinion, Reason, Example, and restating their Opinion.

Use paper and markers, or a digital tool like Wixie to create a booklet or digital story that includes their text and illustrations. If you are working digitally, you can even have students record their voice for an extra special memory.

Depending on their age, students may be ready to craft a 4-page presentation with the information from each section of their O-R-E-O organizer on a page. Older students can write statements that use multiple reasons or examples across the pages.

Create covers for student books if you have used paper. If you are working with a digital tool, save or export student projects to video. Email the videos to the family members mentioned in the student’s work, or to family members who can forward or share with the appropriate person.

You may also want to host a family night where students can showcase their opinions and stories. If they created with paper, have students read their work. If you students created digital video greetings, play them through a projector in your classroom or even in your school theater!

             My favorite relatice is my mother. She means the world to me. She has been there for me since day one. My mother is a loving, caring, beautiful, and funny person. She has to have the characterictics because mothers are supposed to be that way.              My mother is a teacher at a junior high school wh loves working with children. She love to help people when they are in need. She is the best to be around. She never tells me the wrong things. Even though we have been through our ups and downs, she has still been there for me. When I needed something, she was there and got it for me.              My mother is the best thing that could ever happen to me. She has been a good role model for me and my siblings. She has directed us in the right path and made the right decisions for us.              She is a self-sufficient, independent woman. She doesn't depend on anyone or anybody to do anything for her. She did her best with me and my siblings even through a divorce. We supported our mother in everything she did like she did when we wanted to do something. She also went back to college to receive her Masters degree and Plus 30 in Elementary Education. I was proud of her.              My mother is the best ever though she can't "hold water". My Favourite Cousin

I have many cousin sisters and brothers. Though I like all of them very much, my favourite is Yash. Do you know why? I like him very much because he is very naughty and funny. And also because he has the same birth date as mine!

Let me tell you something more about him. He is ten years old and has big mischievous eyes and curly brown hair. His favourite food is masala data and he loves to cat ice-creams. He runs very fast and always wins lots of medals for his school. He is the captain of his school athletics team, lie also loves to read books, watch movies and play video games.

Yash stays in Bangalore and visits us in the summer holidays every year. When he visited us last year, we had a lot of lint by joining a swimming camp and taking guitar lessons together. I am very excited because my mother has promised that Yash and I can celebrate our birthday this year by throwing one big party for all our friends.

I have so much fun whenever Yash visits that I sometimes wish that he stayed near us so that I could him meet him every day and we could study in the same school together!
