He urges to “recompense kindness with kindness.”

As per ancient Greek philosopher and scientist, Aristotle, kindness means “helpfulness towards someone in need, not in return for anything, nor for the advantage of the helper himself, but for that of the person helped”.

As per American writer and humorist, Mark Twain, “Kindness is the language which the dumb can speak, the deaf can hear & the blind can see.”

As per Talmud, the central text of Rabbinic Judaism, “deeds of kindness are equal in weight to all the commandments.”

As per American philosopher, William Penn, “I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again”

Importance of Kindness

Kindness towards nature, animals and other people can transform the world and make it a beautiful living place. But, it is also important to remember that kindness towards you is also essential for personal growth.

Kindness is being polite, compassionate and thoughtful. Every religion and faith teaches its followers to be kind. Most importantly, kindness must not limit to humans but also every living creature.

Even nature has its way of showing kindness. For instance, the trees grow fruits for us and provide us with shade. One must not see kindness as a core value but as a fundamental behavioural element. When you are kind to your loved ones, you create a stable base.

Once, I was going to the market to buy vegetables and while travelling my purse fell. In the market, I took vegetables at the shop but at that time I felt my purse was not in my pocket. Then I told the shopkeeper that my purse fell, and I will not take vegetables. But he gave me vegetables and told me to pay later. After a while, when I came home, a man came to my home by seeing my identity card to give me my purse. In my purse all my documents and money was still there. My family appreciated it and we all had dinner with that person.

Kindness is the most potent weapon in the world. It is our responsibility as human beings to treat others with kindness.

Kindness can change the world: My winning speech

Last month, I entered the first-ever National Kindness Speech Contest. I decided to enter since I knew I wanted to spread kindness, and because I wanted to do something to make a positive impact on my community.

I later received an email saying I had been selected out of 90 entries to be in the Top 10. About two weeks and lots of votes later, we finally got the official email: I had won $2,500 for a kindness project. 

I plan to donate the money to four different organizations, as well as doing something to continue creating kindness. I will have monthly challenges, where community members will have the chance to donate more money than I did to an organization.

The "kindness star of the month" will be given an opportunity to donate $50 to an organization of their choice.

Kindness can change a world

Hi, my name is Savanna and I am 11 years old. I may be young, but I believe that if people come together, amazing things can happen. All we need is some peace, and equality, more fairness in our world, don't you agree? 

Never underestimate or criticize the abilities of you or anyone else. Bullying is wrong, and can make real life impact on people that they will never forget. 

When you show someone an act of kindness they will pass it on. Although they might forget what you did, they will never forget how it made them feel. Your act of kindness will continue to change peoples lives every single day. It will never end. 

You may not realize it, but we naturally do acts of kindness every day — without even knowing. Putting your dishes away, doing nice things without being asked, or feeding your pet are all small acts of kindness. 

If you have ever witnessed or done a kind act for someone, you know it feels great. Has the person in front of you in the drive-through line ever paid for you or your parents' food? How did that make you feel? That person has never met you, they only did it because they wanted to be kind.

Could you imagine the world without kindness,? It would be a sad and selfish place, and nobody would care.

Luckily, that's not the case, but that still doesn't mean that everybody is kind. 

But it's time for a change — what kind of change? Kindness. 

Kindness may not be able to change the past, but it can change the present. No matter how many mistakes we have made, we can still change our future and we know it. You can make a difference, you have the power. Think about it.

Greetings to all the teachers and students gathered here. Today, I stand before you to deliver the importance of kindness speech. In this speech, I have covered acts of kindness, their impacts, and how we can serve them to society. 

Kindness is a virtue, and the person who possesses this goodness acts selflessly. 

Firstly, let us understand what kindness means. Kindness is being selfless and unconditionally kind. It is a feeling of compassion towards others. A friendly smile, a helping hand, and caring words we share with others come under kindness. It is a language that everyone understands quickly, regardless of age or background. 

Now, coming to the point, Why is kindness important? 

Kindness adds different colours to our lives. It builds a chain of positivity. A simple act of kindness brightens the receiver’s day, lifts the spirits, and makes them feel valued. 

Moreover, an act of kindness creates a sense of community and belonging. When we are kind to others, we build a solid and lasting connection with others. Formation of the foundation of friendships, cooperation, and understanding takes shape. Kindness acts as a glue that binds humans together and makes the world a harmonious and happier place to live in. 

Now the question arises, how can we contribute towards kindness? Contribution to kindness is never about great gestures. If you are holding the door for someone, sharing books and toys, and offering comfort to your friends whenever they are in need, you are showing acts of kindness.  

In conclusion, kindness should be made a part of our meaningful lives. Give someone a reason to smile, lend a helping hand, and spread an act of kindness wherever you go. Kindness is a superpower that each one of us possesses. By using this kind act of power, we can make the world a brighter and happier place for everyone.

  • Each of us has the capacity to show up kindly and make a difference in the world of another.

Kindness is about showing up in the world with compassion and acting for the greater good of all. While being nice is about being polite, pleasant, and agreeable and doing what we think we should, kindness goes a step beyond.

Kind humans know that life is hard, messy, and complex. Yet they understand that people are doing their best with the tools, resources, and experience they carry. Charles Glassman captured this by saying, “Kindness begins with the understanding that we all struggle.”

Many people view kindness as a weakness, but it's quite the opposite. It is a sign of strength. It is moving from "me" to "we," seeing the bigger picture, and loaning someone your strength and support. Supporting someone by doing whatever you can, wherever you are, with whatever you have is a sign of who you are—a kind human.

Kindness is doing the things that may go without acknowledgment and thanks. Authentic and intentional kindness doesn’t expect anything in return. We can practice kindness for kindness’ sake, not for the personal gain or the approval of others.

Kindness is a universal language that can bring people together regardless of age, race, ethnicity , religion, status, and identity . The good news is that it’s completely free too! I don’t think the saying “kindness makes the world go ‘round” came about without reason.

Benefits of Kindness

Most of us will have heard that "doing good is good for you" or "it’s better to give than to receive." It may be a surprise to learn that the research genuinely supports this. When we show up for others kindly, the benefits go both ways. Practicing kindness for the sake of kindness is one of the greatest gifts we can give to others and ourselves.

Research shows that being kind boosts the production of the feel-good hormones (serotonin and dopamine ), which give feelings of satisfaction and well-being, and activate the pleasure and reward areas in the brain of the givers and receivers. Endorphins, the body’s natural painkiller, can also be released and contribute to a "helper’s high." Kindness also fosters our sense of belonging and helps us build and strengthen our relationships (Hamilton, 2017).

Research shows that performing acts of kindness and helping others improves the happiness of the helper (Curry et al., 2018; Hamilton, 2017). A study by Rowland and Curry (2019) found that people who performed kindness activities for seven days experienced greater happiness. The increase in happiness was true whether the social tie was a friend, family member, stranger, or themselves. As you might expect, the more kind activities one does, the greater the boost in happiness. Even just observing acts of kindness had positive effects on one’s happiness.

In his book, The Five Side Effects of Kindness , David Hamilton discusses how we experience the effects of kindness throughout our entire nervous system . He suggests that kindness is good for the heart because the warm feelings we get help to generate oxytocin , which can reduce our blood pressure and stress hormone, cortisol. He also supports the idea that kindness is contagious and how acting kindly can create a ripple effect and inspire others to do the same.

Ways to Practice Kindness

Here are some ways you can practice kindness:

  • Be kind to yourself. In my last post , I talked about how we could all use a gentle reminder about being a little kinder to ourselves. For many of us, showing up kindly starts with repairing the relationship we have with ourselves. I provided some restorative and practical ideas for how we can start to show up kindly for ourselves. When we are kinder with ourselves, we are kinder to others.
  • Practice the kindergarten basics. Manners, turn-taking, including others, and comforting that friend who fell and scraped their knee. A kind environment is the compound of many small, kind acts.
  • Show gratitude . When we feel grateful, we need to share this with others. Recognize and bring attention to what uplifts you. Tell someone they are doing a great job. End your work week by emailing someone who helped you out that week. Text or call a loved one to tell them they make a difference in your life.
  • Listen to understand, not respond or problem-solve . So often, when others are talking, we think about how we will reply or what solutions we will provide. The truth is that being present, and listening, is a form of showing the kindness that can make another feel heard, understood, and truly felt. Next time you ask someone how they are, hold space and really listen to what they have to say.

Being kind is about showing up as your true self and inviting others to come as they are, too. It is meeting yourself and others with compassion and understanding in the present moment. Each of us can be why someone believes there are good people in this world.

So, kindness might not make the world go 'round (we have momentum and gravity to thank for that), but kindness does certainly make the world a better place.

Think about the power that a kind gesture, a kind hand, a kind word, or a listening ear can have on someone in a moment when they feel like their world is crumbling. Think about the way that it can make an already-good day that much better. Now think about the positive impact on the giver’s physical and mental health. The power of kindness is remarkable.

We may never know just how big of an impact our small acts of kindness have on someone else. But we know that kind humans doing kind things are exactly what this unwell world needs more of.

Although it may not be your first time hearing this one, I will leave you with this final ask:

Good morning and a warm welcome to one and all present here. I will be talking today about kindness which is very much required for the current generation, who often tend to lose their patience and be unkind.

Why is an act of kindness important ?

Why do we think the act of Kindness is important? Let me share a famous saying quoted by Mark Twain “Kindness is the language the deaf hear, and the blind can see.” Is it not a beautiful quote with deep meaning? Kindness is nothing, but helping someone without expecting anything in return is an act of kindness. It is an act of humanity that is present in each and everyone, but only some fail to exhibit it.

My ancestors passed it down to be kind and helpful to each and everyone around us. It is also one common thing that lays a base for every religion. Being considerate towards each other can show our personality.

The different acts of kindness we can embrace in our day-to-day life can be from respecting our elders and helping them when they are in need. Many times we will come across elderly who carry heavy things all alone without anyone to help them; if we step forward and help them carry their things for them until their destination is also an act of kindness, it will not only make them happy but also gives us immense satisfaction and joy.

In our everyday routine, we come across many people with different attitudes, not all are patient and helpful, but as part of our duty, it is important to be kind and grateful to others as we don’t know what others are facing. There can be someone who has had a fight at home; a few may have lost their loved ones, and also there can be a few who are facing terminal issues. It is not [possible to be involved in each of their lives and help them overcome their problems, but something possible is a simple smile and the words “Have a great day!” can actually help someone having a very bad day to gain back confidence and start the day fresh again.

Surprisingly Kindness can be contagious as it can help motivate us to be kind and helpful to others around us. If one is kind to someone without expecting help in return, they will surely be helped in times of need, and they say it is a cycle in which what you give without any expectation comes back to you. If only the world became selfish, there would be no peace and harmony. 

Kindness comes not by asking but by one’s decision to be so. It has become more important to be kinder to each other, especially in a world where the competition is increasing rapidly, where everyone is rushing to win first place and run ahead of others. Let us be kind, teach this to the younger ones, and help build a positive community.

Good morning, everyone. Please respect the Principal, the instructors, and my close pals. I, Abc (say your name), am glad for the opportunity to discuss compassion. Kindness is the most powerful approach to demonstrating to someone that you care about them or that you respect and love them. Kind individuals are thoughtful, giving, pleasant, loving, and welcoming. Because of its favorable attitude, kindness is frequently misconstrued as naivety or weakness, but it is not. Mother Teresa is a wonderful example of compassion, having spent her whole life caring for ailing children in a faraway nation she had never visited and knew nothing about. She emanated compassion, and that is genuine strength.

We may live up to this concept by being compassionate and empathic to everyone in our life. Good morning, and hello to everyone here. Kindness is one of the most wonderful emotions any human can provide. People are more appreciated when a powerful person shows kindness to a weak one. Kindness may aid in the mending of a broken individual. People that have compassion in their hearts radiate positivity around them. If compassion is real, it assists others in growing. In this brutal society, there are still those people who have a true pleasant attitude toward everyone. If people start treating everyone with true compassion and expect nothing in return, the world will change for the better. Unfortunately, there are certain folks we don’t particularly like.

It is critical to understand that all beings, whether animals or people deserve respect and compassion. Kindness and the act of doing it will transform you in unexpected ways; it will enhance your life more than the people you show kindness to and have sympathy for. If we welcome them with civility and kindness whenever we meet face to face and wish them all the happiness, we will help ourselves grow as decent people.

What does kindness mean?

Kindness encompasses all the various ways, large and small, in which we show concern, care, and compassion for both ourselves and those with whom we coexist in the world.

Kindness is like a deep cleaning breath in a world full of struggle and grief; it rejuvenates us with its purity, nourishes us with its goodness, and gives us the power to endure despite our difficulties.

What makes someone a kind person

Kind individuals are compassionate and tolerant of others who require assistance. They may be present in any scenario and give a listening ear, a warm smile, or an encouraging remark when necessary. Kindness may be shown by anybody, including strangers on the street.

Hello everyone, I am here to present a speech on Kindness. In Hindi, it’s a saying that “Kar bhala to ho bhala”.The saying means that when you do good for somebody, something good will happen to you too. Doing good for somebody without expectation of any favor in return is Kindness. Kindness is a humanitarian act that gives us a feeling of happiness and satisfaction. Our elders and ancestors have also taught us to be kind to the people around us.

Even in Christianity Mother Teressa became famous for her different acts of kindness and is respected by all. Everyone respects and appreciates a person who is kind. Thus spreading and adopting kindness is in our culture and we should preach our children various acts of kindness.

Various acts of Kindness

The various acts of kindness which we can adopt in our day to day activities include giving respect to elders. Helping the mother in the kitchen and household works. Treating people with low income such as mali, cobbler, guard with respect. Offering seats to pregnant, elderly and handicapped people while traveling by bus or train.

Some of the times, this also happens that people take advantage of your kindness and can fool you. We should remain aware from such people. There are many such examples. In the newspaper we read a lot of such cases. A women was robbed when she helped a handicapped man by offering him a glass of water.

An elderly person snatched a gold chain from a girl who offered him a lift. These are the examples that frighten us. But we should remain alert and vigilant and never leave persuading acts of kindness.

I may not be wrong if I say kindness is contagious. Once an act of kindness motivates other people also to do kindness activities. An act of kindness will never go waste and people will always remember how you made them feel.

Can we imagine a world without kindness and humanity? Without kindness, the world would become a lonely place with people being selfish and careless. Nobody wants to see a world like this, hence it becomes our responsibility to adopt and preach kindness wherever and whenever possible.

Kindness towards the Environment

Kindness towards the environment and surroundings is also very important. Nowadays we are excessively making the mother earth suffer by polluting it and depleting its resources.

Mankind has already done a lot of exploitation of mother earth and now its time to show kindness towards the earth. This we can do by keeping our surroundings clean, use of biodegradable products  and planting more no.of trees.

The importance of kindness involves empathetic, consideration and genuine caring for others and self. Kindness is one of the most important virtues that is developed in a society. The word “kindness” is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, gratitude and considerate. There are various reasons why everyone in our society should practice kindness. Kindness enhances positive attitude, behavior, physical and mental changes through lowering stress levels and increasing the body’s production of good feeling hormones. The strength to kindness is infinite. Kindness is not a cowardly act, it is not selfish. Kindness is selfless and brave. It can hold power for those who help the right and show the truth. Not everyone is kind, but everyone expects others to be kind to them. It is a practice which is done for selfless reasons. Kindness is developed through empathy. And empathy is what one feels when they put themselves in another’s situation. Kindness holds the power of love and forgiveness. It spreads happiness and the feeling of loved. Kindness doesn’t only mean being kind to others but it also involves the way we care for our own needs, self-care towards ourselves. Kindness is an act of being polite towards others. An act of kindness simply means a selfless act of helping someone in need or in general helping an individual in order make him/her happy without any compensation or benefit of his/her act of showing kindness. It is the true act of kindness that helps to create and bond honest and lasting friendships and relationships. Kindness not only helps in physical and mental changes but also helps to change the world, make this world a better place to live. Research has proven that kindness can help increase happiness, success, friendship, reduce stress and improve emotional well being. Also, being kind to one another helps us offer the opportunity to connect with others, building a stronger sense of community and unity with friends, family, neighbors and even strangers. Kindness is not just limited to human beings; one must display kindness to animals as well. Kindness truly is a selfless act when one helps others without expecting anything in return. When you are kind you lead a peaceful, happy life and you sleep better at night .It is an act of selflessness and the prime example of this is Mother Teresa. She selflessly showed the world the power of kindness. Mother Teresa showed the world that kindness can truly heal people. Kindness is a practice that comes from within. The way one behaves with another person irrespective of his/her class, caste and gender, then towards tender animals or living beings with a feeling of warmth, care and affection.

Kindness is a very beautiful feeling which one person can offer to another. It bonds two people and brings them closer. Kindness can help a person to see the beautiful side of human beings. Because,

“Kindness is Beautiful”.

Baccalaureate address (as prepared for delivery) by President Rebecca Stoltzfus at the Goshen College Baccalaureate Celebration on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Greetings, Goshen College class of 2024, family and friends!

Seniors: Thank you for this beautiful evening.

Tomorrow you will cross the threshold from being students to being alumni. You will sign the enormous, ancient, book of alumni, adding your names to the thousands of GC grads before you.

You have become a part of this place. You have joined the stream of our history – from our founding in Elkhart 130 years ago, to this weekend in Goshen, and going forward in time and space.

You have made history. And making history is extremely cool.

When I think of your particular class of 2024, there are some particular ways that you have made history at Goshen College.

Let’s begin with the fact that you began your college journey in the weirdest of pandemic times. Chances are, you did not have a normal high school commencement.

Some of you who began as first-years in the fall of 2020 did your entire fall semester online because you could not obtain a visa to get here. I respect you for persevering and I’m so glad you’re here now!

And for those of you who did arrive at Goshen College in August of 2020, I gave my welcome speech to you here, in this concert hall, where we had the space to seat you all six feet apart.

You might remember that as my “I will send you home” speech. Here’s what I said to you:

None of us can pull this off by ourselves. It will take all of us to create a healthy culture of kindness, common good, learning and trust. . . .We hold one another in trust. 

I will be your number one fan.

I will be your ally.

I will listen to your concerns, and if our plan is not working, we will change it.

I will speak truthfully to you.

I will respond to your mistakes with grace and education. I make mistakes too. 

But if you persist in not complying with our COVID safety measures this fall, I will send you home.

Or was the intent: Chill, Becky . In which case, the artist had not yet learned the correct use of a comma?

I leave it open to your interpretation.

Personally, I am guessing the intent was: Chill, Becky!

And I appreciate this word from an unknown student artist. It’s generally good advice. Jesus probably would have agreed. But it was hard to be chill at that time.

Fall 2020 was also when we handed out GC branded masks. Remember this?

A few months later we learned that thin, loosely fitted cloth masks were not very effective – even if they did say GC!

Although they were better than this.

Finally, we transitioned to much better KN95 masks.

And now, here we are tonight, mostly maskless! I love all of your faces! I love your wonderful chins and lips and noses!

The pandemic shut down our SST program and immersive global learning for about 8 months,

But as we emerged from that period and over the years you have been here, we have had SST programs in more than 20 locations from Ecuador to Indonesia, the Apache Stronghold, Puerto Rico and London – just to name a few.

And we reopened our marine biology facility in the Florida Keys – which a few of you have discovered and more of you will experience in May.

In the fall of 2020 we opened our new Center for Communication Studies. In addition to other benefits, it provides a much upgraded space for the ridiculous number of trophies and awards won by The Record, The Globe and Globe Media.

You also entered GC as we launched two new majors: public health, and criminal and restorative justice.

Our first-year faculty that year included two Brennemans, Brianne and Rob, who are actually unrelated. In the four years your class has been at GC we have enjoyed 72 issues of The Record, including the Funnies!

The class of 2024 also gave birth to Dan the Squirrel Man, full of Maple Leaf passion, nuts, eventually duck tape, and finally,

Grace, when Dash came along.

In Maple Leaf Athletics, Over the past four years we have celebrated 306 wins in competition. 56 graduating seniors are current Maple Leaf student-athletes. This year, Maples Leafs have been national qualifiers 51 times, conference players of the week 18 times, and NAIA All-Americans eight times.

This year both the women’s and men’s cross country teams had their strongest finishes in college history, finishing 15th and 16th nationally.

It is good to celebrate together this evening, because the past four years have also held a lot of pain.

Alongside your formal studies the world dished up a huge course of study that none of us signed up for. An interdisciplinary course in public health, structural racism, climate change and the limits to our mental health. Terrible and heartbreaking wars that are still ongoing.

Let your experiences teach you empathy and your suffering teach you love.

You commence from this place as learners, leaders, peacemakers and citizens of a luminous and tender world. It has been our privilege to bear witness to your success – your questions, your achievements, your bravery as you tried new things.

Thank you for being courageous, creative and compassionate leaders through the beauty and the ordeal of these years that we have shared together. There are many days when I have taken a walk around campus just to see you, exchange a smile or greeting and to feel your energy. I am truly fortunate amongst presidents to have had you as students and families during this time.

Keep being you. Keep making history. Keep imagining peace, nurturing peace and advocating for it, knowing that the foundation of peace is the love that flows from God and between each one of us and of this precious and singular planet earth.

College is not a solo act. If you are seated tonight with a friend or family member who has been a companion to you through these GC years, take a moment to turn and say thank you.

I hope that we have been for you, and will continue to be for you, a community that inspires your courage, creativity and compassion.

And I hope that Goshen, with its leafy maples and buzzing prairies, is a place that you will always consider home. Please come back for homecoming and class reunions.

And in the year 2074, when you come back for your 50-year class reunion, you will tell the president of Goshen College – who will be younger than you – what it was like to live and study here through the COVID 19 pandemic. You will talk about quarantine in Miller and isolation in Kenwood, zooming into classes in your pajamas, and getting your food in green boxes. But most of all, you will talk about what you learned, your favorite faculty, your Goshen friends and the reunions you have had over the years.

And that president will be amazed by your stories and inspired by who you have become.

It has been our immense privilege to know you. We will always be your curious and enthusiastic cloud of witnesses—eager to see what the world holds for you, and what you hold for the world!

So, dear ones, go and be salt and light for the world!

And I pray that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power, together with all of God’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. All customer service pillars involve some degree of respect.

Megan Jones of Call Centre Helper recently interviewed me about the “Pillars of Customer Service.” In preparation, I did a Google search and asked, “What are the pillars of customer service?”

There are many correct answers. In other words, there are no definitive answers. Some of the information and articles included words and phrases such as:

· Personalization

· Responsiveness

· Integrity

· Knowledge

· Problem-solving skills

There were many others as well, but one I didn’t see in any of the Google responses was respect . I’m sure some companies have incorporated the word respect into their Pillars of Customer Service; however, the almighty and powerful Google didn’t mention them. I even asked my close friend, ChatGPT, and it didn’t come up with the word respect either. I responded, “I’m surprised none of my Google searches or my query with you didn’t mention the word respect . Maybe I’m on to something.”

ChatGPT came back with a great answer. “Your observation highlights a valuable insight into possibly underserved areas of discussion in customer service. … This could be a compelling topic for your next customer service keynote speech , article or book, offering a unique viewpoint that can resonate deeply with businesses striving to elevate their customer service quality.”

Thank you, ChatGPT!

So, let’s talk about the never-mentioned pillar: respect. First, some definitions.

· Cambridge Dictionary includes “politeness, honor and care shown toward someone or something that is considered important.”

· Merriam-Webster Dictionary includes “high or special regard.”

· Dictionary.com includes “to show regard or consideration for.”

All customer service pillars involve some degree of respect. They all aim at one single idea: to give the customer the best experience possible. In other words, respect their decision to do business with you in all possible ways, and they will respect you as a company or brand, hopefully in the form of repeat business—maybe even loyalty.

Respect is a lofty goal. Unfortunately, the majority of companies and brands don’t deliver on the concept, at least according to the more than 1,000 customers we surveyed for our annual customer service and CX study . Specifically, we asked if customers felt brands and companies respected their time. Why time? Because it’s something that, once it’s gone, can never be recaptured. It’s precious to many and one of the easiest ways to show a level of respect—or in some cases—a lack of respect. The results of the survey were telling:

61% of customers don’t think companies or brands respect their time .

This is not the answer most of us would hope for. There are many ways customers feel they are disrespected. We asked them what would likely cause them to switch to a different company or brand.

· More than half (51%) are likely to switch companies or leave a brand because they had to wait too long on hold. How long someone is willing to wait is an individual preference, so maybe this should be the next question on your customer satisfaction survey: How long are you willing to wait before you become frustrated when holding to talk to a customer service or sales agent? If a bad customer service experience includes the customer feeling disrespected for any reason, don’t be surprised if they don’t come back.

· Even more—60% of customers—are likely to switch companies or leave a brand because the company didn’t respond fast enough. How fast is fast enough? If a customer wanted to wait six hours for an answer to their question, they would have waited six hours to ask it. Once again, time is an opportunity to show respect (or disrespect).

· And 75% of customers are likely to switch companies or leave a brand because the company didn’t respond at all. This sends a message that the company doesn’t respect the customer at all.

Respecting a customer’s time is just one way to show respect. Kindness, being proactive and recognizing and appreciating a customer for their business are just a few more ways—of many—to show respect.

Here’s a homework assignment. Sit down with your team and ask two questions:

1. How do we show our customers we respect them?

2. Are we doing anything that would show our customers we don’t respect them—even if that’s not our intention?

These two questions could give you answers and ideas that will enhance your relationship with your customers by proving your respect and appreciation for them.

They will be respected and admired throughout their life. Happiness related to materials may not last long, but happiness related to the feelings remains forever. To be kind and be good to others may be asking for small sacrifices but it will actually lead to peace.

People need time to understand the value of being good and kind without any expectations. When they come to know the value of this behavior, they start behaving accordingly.

There are some people who are genuinely kind. They don’t need to be explained the value of kindness. These people achieve a lot of love and respect from everyone. Every person has a good side and a bad side within them.

The difference is that some people have the good within them in abundance and some people have the bad within them in abundance. Sometimes, the bad side comes out from the good person if they are provoked wrongly.

Even after provoking the good person, if they don’t expose their negative side, then that person is truly a good person from his soul. Similarly, bad people also have their good sides within them.

Kindness cannot be forced upon someone; it comes from within. The world would become a more peaceful place if people start becoming kind towards each other. Sometimes people become afraid of being kind.

They develop a fear that if their kindness is taken for granted and they are not given importance, then they may have to suffer. Not all people show kindness genuinely.

Some people show kindness just to get their ambitions fulfilled. And people accept that as their genuine behaviour and become afraid when they are treated in a kind manner.

Kindness is a very beautiful feeling which one person can offer to another. It bonds two people and brings them closer. Kindness can help a person to see the beautiful side of human beings.

Mike Johnson Columbia University visit met with boos and heckling from protestors

House Speaker Mike Johnson arrived on the campus of Columbia University on Wednesday armed with a stern message for school administrators and protesters after days of anti-war demonstrations, arrests and campus closures at colleges across the country.

Johnson, R-La., described instances of antisemitism on college campuses, called for the resignation of the university president and warned that students perpetrating violence should be arrested.

His lecture was met with boos from nearby protesters and chants of “We can’t hear you!”

“Enjoy your free speech,” Johnson shot back.

In his remarks on campus, Johnson shamed students and faculty involved in the protests, as well as administrators for not doing enough to prevent them.

“It's detestable. As Columbia has allowed these lawless agitators and radicals to take over, the virus of antisemitism has spread across other campus,” Johnson told the crowd. “Anti-Israel encampments are popping up in universities all across this country. The madness has to stop.”

Students at Columbia University have pledged to continue protesting in an encampment they set up last week until the university agrees to a complete divestment from Israel. Protesters have demanded divestment from a student-exchange program and the university's campus in Tel Aviv.

The contentious protests led to the arrest and suspension of more than 100 students from Columbia University and Barnard College last week − including U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar's daughter, Isra Hirsi.

As Johnson finished, he turned things over to Republican Rep. Virgnia Foxx (R-NC), the Chair of the House Committee on Education, who said Columbia University is "in a free fall.”

“As Speaker of the House, I am committing today that the Congress will not be silent as Jewish students are expected to run for their lives and stay home from their classes hiding in fear,” Johnson said. “We have passed a number of statutes to address this matter and we call upon the U.S. Senate to act upon our legislation.” 

Some Columbia University leaders said they were open to negotiating with protesters, but students from a group called Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine said they are not currently interested.

In a statement Tuesday, the group alleged that university negotiators threatened to call the National Guard and NYPD if they "do not acquiesce to their demands."

In a campus update Tuesday, Shafik said the university is working to identify and discipline protesters who violated its policies against discrimination and harassment.

"The right to protest is essential and protected at Columbia, but harassment and discrimination is antithetical to our values and an affront to our commitment to be a community of mutual respect and kindness," Shafik said in the statement.

The protests have fueled an ongoing national debate about Jewish students' safety after a documented rise in antisemitism on college campuses following Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel and Israel's military response .

"Amid anti-Israel protests, Jewish students at Columbia University don't feel safe," Johnson said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Let's be clear: these are not peaceful protests, these are antisemitic mobs."

According to a spokesperson from the Speaker’s office, Johnson wanted to speak to students at Columbia because he felt New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has not done enough to protect them.

“Hochul and other officials in New York have completely failed in their duty to protect Jewish students and combat the rise of antisemitism in their party,” Athina Lawson said in a statement. “We wish it weren’t necessary.”

House Republicans Anthony D'Esposito (R-NY), Mike Lawler (R-NY), and Nicole Mallotakis (R-NY) joined Johnson and Foxx at the campus Wednesday.

"Together, we're going to send a message that Shafik's failure to secure campus for her Jewish students is unacceptable. She MUST resign," D’Esposito said in a post ahead of their visit.

Their visit comes two days after House Democrats Dan Goldman (D-NY), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Kathy Manning (D-NC), and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) met with administrators and Jewish students on campus Monday.

Oscar winner reveals she would enjoy fans using her given name despite using Emma professionally

Her films have racked up more than $1bn at the box office and she has won two Oscars under her stage name, but Emma Stone says she would now prefer to be called by her given name: Emily.

In a joint interview with the Hollywood Reporter , Nathan Fielder, her co-star in the surreal TV show The Curse, revealed that actors and crew members she worked with called her Emily.

Fielder said: “Before we continue, I’d like to say something. Her name’s Emily, but she goes by Emma professionally. So when there’s people that don’t know her, I end up saying Emma. But I’m going to just say Emily from here on.”

Stone responded: “You can say Emma. You can say anything.” Asked whether she would correct a fan who called her Emily, she said: “No. That would be so nice. I would like to be Emily.”

Stone said she used Emma professionally because her real name was taken by another actor in the Sag-Aftra union. Membership of the union is needed to work on Hollywood productions.

After taking home the best actress Academy Award in 2017 for her lead role in La La Land, Stone this year won her second Oscar for her performance as Bella Baxter in Poor Things, a period fantasy comedy adapted from the novel by Alasdair Gray. It was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and co-stars Mark Ruffalo , Willem Dafoe and Ramy Youssef.

During her acceptance speech at the Academy Awards, Stone addressed Lily Gladstone, who was tipped to win the best actress award for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon, saying she was “in awe” of her. “It’s been such an honour to be doing this with you and I hope we keep doing this together.”

She finished by thanking the team behind Poor Things, including Lanthimos: “Thank you for this gift of a lifetime in the role of Bella.”

Stone then thanked her parents and brother, her husband and her daughter, “who is gonna be three in three days and has turned our world technicolor. I love you bigger than the whole sky.”

Stone is due to appear in Kinds of Kindness, another film directed by Lanthimos. The film is due to debut at Cannes next month.
