There are a lot of beautiful and wonderful places all over the world, and every living soul on this planet must have a place he/she would love to return to at least for a moment. And such places do differ with people; as for me, I am deeply keen of nature, mountains especially. The place that I was and am quite astounded with is located on the very border with Canada in the region of San Juan Islands, some 100 miles from Seattle, WA, and is called the Orcas Island. Quite interesting is the name of the island, and it actually stands for itself – there are a lot of orcas in the waters of Eastsound (I was lucky to come across couple of them while travelling with a ferry). When you come to the island, the first thing you notice is how green the whole place is. I mean, that part of the U.S is incredibly green comparing it to other states, but the Orcas Island does differ with its pure, rich with oxygen air, crystal blue (when it is not raining) sky, with view so picturesque you want to stay and never leave the place. The house we were staying in was located on the top of the hill at the very edge of the island, so, that when you look straight ahead, all of the neighbor islands become visible, with vast waters surrounding them, and stretching for miles. The whole island is full of tall pine trees that make the air so clean, you will think you have never truly breathed before. The island’s nature fully reveals itself early in the morning (especially during the sunrise); when you wake up and go outside, first thing you will see is fog, as it is quite foggy there. But later, as it starts to dissolve, the vast shapes of the nearby islands with their hilltops start to come into view; then whole islands become visible, with water all around them. At the daytime the temperature rises, and you might be able to enjoy the time being outside, if you are lucky enough not to get caught up in the rain. But we did actually catch the rain in one of days spent there, and quite frankly it was even more beautiful for me, as I just love to see Mother Nature in action. Sitting on the front porch, looking into the deep and watching the storm slowly coming towards you, with lightning and thunder seen and heard somewhere far, but so close, is an amazing feeling that leaves you breathless. During daytime it is quite nice to simply wander around the forest, and to be able to feel all the might of those huge old pine trees. Here and there you can see some animals that despite the disturbance carry on with their activities. In the evening, when the sun goes down another view becomes revealed, the view that can be seen only in the highlands or in the mountains. As this place is higher above the sea level than most of our cities, stars here are bigger and brighter, so that during a clear night you can take your sleeping bag, and watch this night theater till the morning comes. Such is my favorite and the most beautiful place and those days will stay in my memory for the time to come. And when I have a slight chance to go there, I use that chance, admiring the breathtaking beauty of the place as if for the first time.

Essay: Most Beautiful Place I Have Ever Seen

Posted by Amazing Traveler | May 24, 2017 | America | 0 |

Majestic scenery, wilderness, and wildlife make up the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Millions of people travel to the United States to visit Yosemite National Park every year, but for me, it was more than just a national park, it was the most beautiful place I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Drenched in history, the Yosemite National Park was first discovered by Native Americans over 10,000 years ago, and we can thank President Abraham Lincoln who first signed a grant in 1864 to permanently protect the land. Yosemite was one of the first territories preserved for its scenic beauty, public use, and continued enjoyment.

The Yosemite National Park is renowned worldwide for being one of the most beautiful national parks to visit. It situate in Central Sierra Nevada of California, and 95% of the park officially class as wilderness (that is huge considering the entire park covers 1200 square miles)!

Essay: Most Beautiful Place I Have Ever Seen

I will never forget to look up to witness the most incredible, dramatic waterfalls pounding down from sheer cliff edges. Awe-inspiring granite cliffs and crystal clear streams surrounding me and putting the power of nature into perspective. If you have ever considered exploring the Yosemite National Park, please give yourself plenty of time to do so. A week was not long enough for me!

Essay: Most Beautiful Place I Have Ever Seen

Placing the enchanted landscapes to the side; my main inspiration to visit Yosemite stemmed from all the stories I had heard of wildlife living in peace and protection in their natural habitats. I had read about wild coyotes, black bears, mountain lions, river otters, pumas, panthers and over 200 species of birds circling the area! Of course, you are not guaranteed to see everything, but by giving myself a week there, I was able to see quite a lot.

Useful & Interesting Fact!

According to various articles, there are approximately 400-500 black bears in Yosemite but it is important you know what to do should you ever come face-to-face with one of them. Yes, they are gorgeous to look at and watch (I had the pleasure of seeing four black bears during my time there) but, as you will be aware, they can be dangerous if you find yourself too close. Maybe easier said than done but try not to show fear if this happens. Stand your ground, raise your arms and make almighty loud noises!!! It says that bears will most likely be scared away.

My top 5 things to do in Yosemite National Park:

Visit yosemite valley.

Described as the most stunning location in the whole of America, the Yosemite Valley is of course not to miss. It is seven miles long and less than a mile wide accommodating the Merced River which flows through it. Here I was lucky enough to witness how the deer and coyotes live; to say this was an enjoyable experience would be an understatement.

Visit Yosemite Falls

It is the highest waterfall in the Yosemite National Park and the fifth-highest waterfall in the entire world. The impact of the water as it hits the base of the lower fall echoes through much of the valley and if you are lucky you will witness the most magical rainbow on a sunny day. It is a common sight for explorers!

El Capitan Rock Climbing Mecca

Rising more than 3,000 feet straight up from the Yosemite Valley floor, this is said to be the single largest piece of granite in the world! This world-class destination for experienced climbers is a wonder to climb, and I loved every second of it.

This iconic scene is one of the most stunning things I have ever seen. It allows the perfect balance of sights including El Capitan on the left, Half Dome in the center and Bridalveil Fall on the right! It’s one of the first views you will encounter upon entering the Yosemite Valley and will leave you speechless.

Just wow! Have you ever had the pleasure of seeing the majestic Redwood Trees? These are known to be the largest living thing in the world and can grow up to 85m in height. Visit the Mariposa Grove for a full dose of these enormous trees and the ‘Grizzly Giant’ which is believed to be over 2,700 years old.

Essay: Most Beautiful Place I Have Ever Seen

Are you an adventurer, an explorer of all things wild and beautiful? I sure am.

Hiking, backpacking, and skiing are all possible at this magnificent area of the world. I spent time indulging in the action packed sports activities such as snowboarding, white-water rafting, hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing the sheer cliff edges at the Yosemite National Park! The wilderness is a real escape from the stresses of modern day civilization, and you can rely on the bubbling natural hot springs to soothe your mind and energy. Descriptive Essay About A Beautiful Place

The sweltering breeze rushes through my fingers as I sit on the soft green grass in the park. It’s such a beautiful day, the grassy plane clashes with the sapphire sky and the sunlight illuminates the delicate area surrounding me. I quickly find myself becoming captivated by the amount of diverse people who populate the parks space. The athletic runners, dog walkers, and adolescents hidden in their smartphones; which, astonishes me because who knew that such a beautiful place could bring so many contrasting individuals together. I arise to my feet and began traveling down a narrow path which aligns itself along a lengthy river, but finally converged with the parkway ahead. An elderly couple sits at the end of the path on a wooden bench eating ice cream that slowly drizzles down their hands and onto the wedding rings that occupies their fingers. I observe the elderly couple for a short amount of time noticing how happy and gullible they act towards each other. I slowly began to lose interest in the couple, but then the elderly woman's ice cream starts to run onto her blouse and the aged husband runs to fetch some napkins, quickly returning with them. A melody ringing throughout the park quickly drew my attention away from the couple and directed it to the truck that rests on the side of the road. The truck has a window fixtured on its side where a man hands out ice cream to a long line of kids waiting. Finding myself in line, I notice a younger couple at the very front who

Descriptive Essay-Browns Bay Beach

The beach is still. What once was golden with colour and joy, now lies dull colourless and blind. Waves crashing onto the moiled sand as the taste of sand over wheals my mouth. Not a body to be seen across the vast graveyard, the colour of grey drags in the air caving in on my every breath. While the only source of light comes from the moons reflection on the water. Playground swings sway hauntingly alone, not a bike or a skateboard anywhere nor a crack of laughter or a pep of moan. The smell of Fish and Chips has disappeared and so has the sight of crowds cheering the skateboards on. The sound of the ocean makes the atmosphere feel abandoned, dark, alarming but relaxed. Seaweed heads and shells lay undisturbed among the sand

Descriptive Essay: A Perfect Place In Salt Lake City

As I’m sitting here in Paris, I look out the window of the starry night sky watching a shooting star going across the beautiful dark night sky. When you look down the window there are people on bikes, love birds walking to the Eifle Tower. There is nothing more magical than tonight for most people. People walking up and down sidewalks carrying bags and bags of shopping bags from their favorite places in Paris.

Descriptive Essay About My Neighborhood

I live on the East side of Cedartown. There happens to be only one-way to get to my neighborhood. First, one must go South on Main street. Then cross the only railroad on Main street and take a right turn at the first intersection then continue straight, straight through another intersection. My house will be the first on the right. My house a small, one-story house painted a greenish, blue tint with a shed right beside it painted the exact same color.

Descriptive Essay About My Home

Long Island, New York is my birthplace and my home. I’ve lived here my entire existence of 17 years and I am blessed. I grew up in a 4 bedroom home in a town by the name of Williston Park. My home is a two-story colonial with a large front and back yard. The lush green grass and the variety of plants in the front yard make it aesthetically pleasing. The white siding of the home make it really hard to keep clean. The four windows in the front of the home make it look as if the house is smiling when you go towards it. Most of the homes in my neighborhood are similar in size and basic structure. Many of these homes are occupied by older white couples. Although my town isn't as diverse as the neighboring towns I love my neighborhood. Some of my favorite things to do are having casual conversations with my older neighbor John; going to the many baseball or football fields to play with my friends; go to Roosevelt Field Mall, or go to one of the many restaurants we have, or finally go to a place called Bounce, which is an indoor trampoline park. One of the greatest parts about my neighborhood is the sense of community and how we are able to set our differences aside when people we care about are in need. Growing up on Long Island we don't have as much access to public transportation compared to NYC, so I usually asked my parents for rides or was stuck walking miles to my friend’s house, or wherever else I went. Once I reached the age I really had no choice other than to get my

Words To Describe Plymouth Town

In the Midwestern region of the United States, there is a town called Plymouth in the state of Wisconsin. It is a small welcoming town with one road running down the middle, invokes the feeling of home. At night, the street lights glow along the sidewalks; the houses along the road are inviting with landscaped yards, large wicker wreaths on doors and the warmth of families gathering around the table for dinner. In the corner of Plymouth sits a park, Meyers Park is nestled between the rolling farm hills and a slow flowing river to the south. The park is where I spent my childhood, a place where I grew into the person I am today. Meyers Park will always hold important memories I have made.

Trail Creative Writing

I step out of the car and stretch my muscles in the balmy ambience of the morning. Inhaling the misty air and exhaling worry, I am awash with pure excitement as I begin to trek into my realm of peace and beauty: a hiking trail. I watch as the tall pine trees and mountains replace the familiar surroundings of concrete buildings and copper telephone wires. The sun, warming my face, filters through the ceiling of leaves and leaves a kaleidoscope of light upon the dirt floor.

Personal Narrative About A Place

I am isolated from the others. The people of the main streets of Italy are very far from the island of Sicily in which I live. I live a basic lifestyle and live off the fat of the land as I tend my animals and eat my crops. I always lived my life afraid as if other people would judge me and point out my differences. This was who I was until the day that I decided enough was enough and I was going to venture into society and reveal myself. From my cave, I have seen boats travel to here occasionally and they have always left after some time. This was my way out I told myself. I knew the ships would lead to the mainland so I waited two days until the sound of the boat horn pierced my ears.

Childhood Observation

The park is welcoming, sprawling, open, and not especially crowded in the bright but gray midday sunlight. It is on a suburban street so there isn’t much noise pollution beyond the cars on the moderately busy street on one side. The horizon is hidden by tall trees and 70’s style houses in every direction. It is overcast, cool, windy but only slightly. The air smells as though it might rain this evening.

Streets Of Michigan Ave: A Short Story

The streets of Michigan Ave. were lined with people and their children as they hurriedly rush down the sidewalks. Taxis were beeping their horns, trying to get people’s attention, men and women were just getting off of work after a long day. The sky was a light blue and white puffy clouds were spotted in the sky, there was a light breeze in the air. The water under the bridge splashed lightly against the walls, it was hard to hear over the excited chatter of the people over top of the bridge. You could smell the smoke from the cars but also there was a faint smell of popcorn from a nearby popcorn vendor cart, shops and hotels filled in what the people and cars didn’t, it was truly a beautiful sight.

Celebrating A Century: America's National Parks

Once I arrived at the park, I breathed in the fresh air around me and took it all in. The air was cool and salty from the Atlantic ocean, and the trees were a stunning shade of orange this autumn. I could hear the waves crashing against the shore and leaves crunching beneath my feet. An ice cold wind whipped my hair, and I was glad I wore warm clothes. I made a beeline

Descriptive Essay About A Sacred Place

It goes without saying that everyone on earth has at least one sanctuary. For some, this place is high up in the branches of a tree, where they can touch the sky with outstretched fingertips and feign a lack of attachment to the busy world lying below. For others, this sacred place might be found in a place as close and accessible as a cubbyhole in their own home. For others still, it might be in a library, or on a quiet mountaintop, the hard pews of a church building, or even a person. I myself have found my haven to be far away and, for now, out of my reach, in a city called Wilmington in North Carolina. It is the seventh or eighth largest city in the state, but the downtown area isn’t too busy to relax and breathe in the fresh air drifting from the beach only a few miles away. It is peaceful and serene, but still bustling with just the right amount of life and activity to be always uplifting, and flawless in its own way.

Jerry's Integrity: A Short Story

Pat and I got out of the car in this busy small town as we walked down the street many people were so welcoming. Maybe one of them had an idea of who was Jerry’s mother if she even lives in Mannville or exist. As we came across a colorful town park with green grass and planted yellow long sun flowers we saw a young boy with brown hair and dark skin playing with a pair of gloves. Pat sniffs

Descriptive Essay About My Favorite Place

As a child, people will always remember certain destinations that stick with them that made a good impression. I have a place that not only made a good impression, it changed me. It made me think off all the things in life people take for granted; places, people, activates. This place brought all though special things in life to one place where I can enjoy them all at the same time. The Oregon coast. Traveling there, as a kid was always special. Waking up early in the morning and driving the long trip there, going through forests, valleys, and cities.

Descriptive Essay : A Trip To The Beach

The warm breeze of the ocean air flies past my face. The heat of the yellow sun was sizzling, beating down against my skin, tanning and burning it within seconds. Beach goers were crowded around in all directions. Seagulls gliding past the groups of people, scouting for dropped or forgotten food to eat. Their little footprints marking a trail in the sand all over the place, going in a million different directions, searching for their next meal. I take in the exquisiteness of it all, the blue-green waves crashing into the sandy shore, making white foam and bubbles wash into the sea, little boys and girls that are digging in the bright white sand running away from the small waves before they get wet. The beach is a stunning place to be; there's just something about the ocean waves and the sand between my toes that makes me just want to stay there forever.

How to Write a Descriptive Essay about a Place

an beautiful place essay

If you’re not sure what exactly a descriptive essay is and how to write one, you’ve come to the right place. I’m Tutor Phil, and in this tutorial I’ll explain how a descriptive essay works and how to write it, step by step.

We’ll write one together, so you’ll have a great example of a descriptive essay.

What Is a Descriptive Essay?

A descriptive essay is a piece of writing in which the author describes a place, a person, an object, an animal, or a process. The purpose of a descriptive essay is to move the reader to some kind of a revelation, conclusion, or decision about the subject.

It is very important to note that a descriptive essay is not an argumentative essay. You’re not presenting an argument and doing whatever it takes to support it.

In a descriptive essay, your intention should be to describe the subject in such a way that the reader would create her own impression of it.

At the same time, your essay is not neutral because it is colored by your own perception or experience of the subject.

In other words, you are implying and suggesting, not blatantly pushing an opinion.

You want to let the reader see, hear, touch, smell, and taste the place you’re describing. And that experience should lead the reader to an appropriate impression or conclusion.

Writing a Descriptive Essay Is a 6-Step Process

Step 1. choose the subject.

Maybe your instructor has already chosen the subject for you. If not, choose a country, city, or a place within a city or a geographical location that you are familiar with.

Ideally, it is a place that you have been to and have a good memory of it. A descriptive essay about a place should not rely solely on research, in most cases.

The real value of your essay is that you know that place, and perhaps it has a special meaning for you or evokes feelings that no other place can evoke.

So, unless you have to write about a specific place where you have never been, choose a location that has a special place in your heart.

Sometimes, your subject can be a place with which you may have negative associations. But most likely, it is a beloved place that has left an indelible impression on your heart and mind.

Criteria for choosing the place

  • Ideally, this place should be dear to your heart
  • It is unique. It is unlike any other place you’ve ever been to, in at least one or two important ways
  • It has left a strong impression on you
  • Perhaps you learned something there
  • Perhaps something wonderful happened to you there, such as meeting your soulmate or discovering something about yourself
  • Ideally, it has special visual qualities that stand out in contrast to what your audience is probably used to. In other words, being visually striking is a huge plus.

I’ll give you an example. For me, one particular little spa town in Europe won me over when I first visited it many years ago. Its name is Carlsbad, or Karlovy Vary. The terms are interchangeable. One is of German origin, and the other is native Czech.

It is located in the western part of Czech Republic, not too far from the German border. It is serene, spectacular, and magical, and I’ll choose it as the subject for our sample descriptive essay.

By the way, Carlsbad, California was named after Karlovy Vary because of the similar mineral content of the underground waters found in the American cousin city.

Step 2. Pick an audience

I understand that you’re probably writing this essay to fulfill a requirement for your class. In which case, your audience is your teacher or professor.

But even if you’re writing for your instructor, you should still have a particular audience in mind because this will help you form ideas and keep your thoughts flowing.

Knowing your audience will inform your choices of what to include and what to exclude in your descriptive essay because your reader may care about some aspects of this place but not others.

Criteria for choosing an audience

  • Your ideal reader is someone who is most likely to be interested in this place
  • It is someone who is likely to enjoy reading your essay
  • Your ideal audience is also someone who will benefit from reading about this place and derive the most value from it

Let’s come back to our example of Karlovy Vary. As I already mentioned, it is a spa town, which means that its attractiveness lies in its therapeutic qualities.

I first visited this gem of a town back in 2004 as a result of a real academic and professional burnout. I believe I was still an undergraduate student finishing up my studies, and I also had a stressful job.

I lived in Brooklyn, which is a borough of New York City, and this metropolis is known for its stressful lifestyle.

New York has all the disadvantages of living in a large city, such as pollution and other stressors that can really suck the life energy out of its dwellers if they are not careful.

I lived in New York for 25 years, and I love this city. I don’t want to come across as totally negative about it.

But focusing on the negatives about my city in this case will help you see how I am choosing the audience for this essay we’ll be writing together in this tutorial.

You see, New York City is a direct opposite of Karlovy Vary in several critical ways.

Establishing a contrast helps define an audience

New York is noisy. Drivers here are notorious for incessant horn honking. And you can hear an ambulance or a police siren probably every 15 minutes or so.

Conversely, Karlovy Vary is super quiet. Such a crazy hustle and bustle doesn’t exist here, and drivers don’t have a reason to honk the horn all the time. It is also very rare to hear a police or an ambulance siren.

Air quality in New York is decent for a big city, but it is still relatively polluted . All the millions of cars and trucks produce way too much carbon dioxide. You can actually see the smog from some vantage points.

The air in Karlovy Vary is virtually pristine. The town is surrounded by hills, and car traffic is not allowed in the city center.

The landscape in New York is a bit monotonous and often fails to inspire. They don’t call this city “a concrete jungle” for nothing. The overall atmosphere is hardly conducive to a great mood or daily inspiration.

Conversely, Karlovy Vary offers aesthetically pleasing, relaxing, and inspiring architecture and landscape. It’s like entering a spa, only the spa is a whole town.

Now that we have this contrast, it is easy to see who might be interested in learning more about Karlovy Vary. Our ideal audience is someone who:

  • Lives in a big metropolis, such as NYC or another big city
  • Can relate to being excessively stressed out
  • Is aware of noise and air pollution
  • Would love an escape to relax and renew, even if only by reading an essay.

So, our essay becomes a sort of a virtual or a fantasy escape until an actual trip becomes possible.

Your audience might have different challenges, needs, and desires. It could be someone who:

  • Is nostalgic about their childhood and a place associated with it
  • Dreams about a perfect place to live and work
  • Plans a retirement location

Think of these factors when determining your audience. In the meantime, because we’ve already identified our ideal reader – a stressed out urban dweller – we can move on to the next step.

Step 3. Divide the subject into subtopics

No matter what kind of an essay you’re writing, you want to divide the main topic into subtopics. In other words, you want to create some kind of a structure that will consist of parts.

I use and teach my students to use the technique I call the Power of Three.

an beautiful place essay

What this means is that instead of having just one big topic, such as one town, we can have three aspects of this town to discuss.

Incidentally, we already talked about three major differences between NYC and Karlovy Vary. These are noise levels, air quality, and landscape. So, perhaps we can use one or more of these aspects of a city as sections of our essay.

We must keep in mind that we’re not writing a comparative essay , although that’s a possibility, too.

We’re writing a descriptive essay. So, we need to find three aspects of the town that we can discuss one after another to put together a rich and detailed enough picture of this place.

Note that these three aspects correspond to the senses of hearing, smell, and sight.

Let’s make a preliminary list of such aspects of Karlovy Vary:

  • Quietness. Does this aspect present an interesting description opportunity? This will depend on our ability to turn it into an asset.
  • Air quality. This may be too specific. We may want to zoom out a little and discuss more than one natural asset of this city. Some of the others include water quality and the industries associated with it.
  • Landscape. This is the most conspicuous aspect of this city. The first thing you’re struck with is how beautiful this place really is. This one is definitely a winner.

If we go about writing about these three aspects of Karlovy Vary creatively, we will have three nice sections or paragraphs that will form the body of our essay.

Note that we’ll probably use more than one sensory perception, such as sight or smell, in each section. We’ll simply use one of three senses as a primary focus in each of our three sections.

It would make sense to begin the discussion of the city by describing it visually. So, this will be our primary focus in the first section.

Then, we can proceed to the sense of hearing. Why? Because our last section will be about air and water. And we should probably leave those for last because we can hear the water before we can taste it. That’s just the way it works in Karlovy Vary.

So, the primary sense perception in our second section will be hearing. And this section won’t be just about how quiet it is.

In fact, the real contrast between a big city and Karlovy Vary is the quality of the soundscape, not just the simple quietness, although it’s a part of it. So, we’ll focus on all the little sounds that make this place unique.

Finally, in the third section or paragraph, we’ll talk about the air and the water, which will correspond to the senses of smell and taste, primarily.

Again, we’ll be using any sense perceptions we feel necessary to make the reader’s experience as real as possible.

And now we have our place, we know our audience, and we have our three main ideas about this place that we’ll use to structure the essay.

We can begin writing, and we’ll start with the opening paragraph.

Step 4. Write the introduction

An introductory paragraph in a descriptive essay offers you a lot of flexibility in how you choose to write it.

You can start off with a particular example of a sense perception, drop your reader in the middle of a town square, or begin with an abstract concept.

I would like to suggest an easy and practical way to do it. In the first sentence or two, pull your reader from the outside world into this particular magical place you’ve chosen to write about.

Then, focus on the place you want to describe and say something general about it that would set the context or provide a perspective.

And finally, set some kind of an expectation for what’s to follow. You can create a sense of mystery, if you like. Remember, this is not an argumentative essay. So, you have more room for creativity.

This is where we begin to put together our descriptive essay example. Let’s write our introductory paragraph.

Descriptive Essay Introduction

“When the city has worn you down, the body is tired, and the soul yearns for a respite, you can count on a little magic gem of a town that will nourish you back to life. The name of the place is Karlovy Vary, and it is nested in the heart of Europe, in Western Bohemia, a region in Czech Republic famous for its spa towns. Its beautiful architecture, therapeutic landscape, clean air, and mineral waters offer the weary a healing adventure and a feast for the senses.”

What have we done in this paragraph?

We’ve pulled the reader into the world of this small spa town. We first descended in their world of the stressful city, and then we turned their attention to its opposite. We named the town and explained where it is located.

And finally, we provided a glimpse of what to expect in this descriptive essay about this town. Now, we’re ready to write the body of the essay.

Step 5. Write the body of the essay

We know our three main sections, which in this case correspond to three sense perceptions. Each section can have more than one paragraph. It all depends on how long your essay has to be.

If you are writing an essay of about 500-600 words, then a five-paragraph structure will do the job. If you need to write 2000 words or more, then you’ll have three sections instead of just three paragraphs.

And then each section can also be divided into two or three subsections (using the Power of Three, if you like). And each subsection can be a paragraph or more.

Just remember – the more words you need, the more dividing into subtopics you must do. The key to writing more is dividing one idea into several supporting ideas. And then you simply treat each supporting idea as a tiny essay.

If you struggle with essay writing in general or need to brush it up, I recommend you read my tutorial on essay writing for beginners . This would be a great place to turn to next.

Now, let’s write out our body paragraphs. Since there’s quite a bit to cover, we’ll probably take two paragraphs per section to get the job done.

Descriptive essay body paragraphs

“When you stay in one of the pretty little hotels in Karlovy Vary, you are likely to be descending the hills towards the hot springs every morning. No matter which part of town you live in, you’ll be greeted with a magnificent sight of little hotels and spas whose architecture has a unifying 19th century style. At the same time, each building has its own character, color, and features. The town is situated on several hills, and the hotels are lined up along about four levels.

The first level is down by the river Tepla, and these hotels are only a few because most of the downtown is occupied with hot springs colonnades where people gather and drink hot mineral water. The next three levels ascend from the springs, and you can either take the stairs or even use a funicular that will take you to the highest level to the Hotel Imperial. As you exit your hotel in the morning, you are greeted with a sight of a collection of small, three to four story buildings that look like birthday cakes. They are pink, green, blue, red, turquoise, and any color you can imagine. You suddenly realize how this variety of colors and shapes strewn over the hillsides all facing you and the city center makes your head spin and makes you feel like you’ve never felt before. Your healing has begun with landscape therapy.

As you descend the stairs to reach the hot springs, you notice the abundance of oxygen in the air because it has a subtle but distinct smell, a bit like the way air smells right before a rain. Then, as you pass by another hotel, and you’ll pass more than one, a light whiff of toast and fried eggs with bacon hits you, stirring your appetite. It is customary to drink a cup of hot mineral water before you come back to your hotel for breakfast. It is called a drinking cure.

As you keep walking towards the geyser and the springs that surround it, you notice another astonishing detail. Nobody is in a rush. Nobody has anywhere to be except right here, right now. Travelers with cute little porcelain cups stroll along without a worry in the world, taking in the sights, the smells, and the sounds of the birds chirping and singing all around. Their serenity infects you. You slow down, too. You begin to look, smell, and listen. This town has got you.

Karlovy Vary is famous for its healing mineral waters that are known to alleviate gastrointestinal issues. These waters really do have magic powers. You have your little sipping cup with you, and when you reach one of the springs, you wait for your turn to fill it up, walk off, and begin sipping. The water has a very subtle smell, but its taste is pretty strong for water. It has very high mineral content and tastes salty. Most people like the taste. Some find it too strong. But one thing is for sure – by the time you’re about half way through with your cup’s content, your digestive juices have begun to stir.

The hot springs flow out through several fountains, each with its own intricately detailed colonnade. The mineral content of water bursting out of each fountain is identical. But the temperature of the water varies from really hot to mild and comfortable. Your “spa doctor” actually prescribes which fountains to use and how much to drink. Sipping the water out of a special porcelain cup with a built-in straw-like system is a special pleasure of its own. The point is not to rush but to take about 20 minutes to empty the cup. In the meantime, you have a chance to take in the magnificent serenity that surrounds and infuses you. When you’ve drunk your water, it is time to head back to your hotel and eat breakfast. You repeat this routine three times a day for the duration of your stay. By day three, you are serenity itself. By day fourteen, you are a brand new person.”

Step 6. Write the conclusion

A conclusion in a descriptive essay is, like the introduction, more flexible than a conclusion in an argumentative essay.

You can conclude your essay in any way you really want as long as you observe one rule. Just make sure you zoom out and write in more general terms.

It is not the time to add specific details and examples. This is the time to wrap things up and end on a general note.

Your conclusion can be very short – only a couple of sentences. But you can take your space and write as much or as little as you feel like. You can always go back and trim it down or beef it up.

Let’s write our conclusion.

Our Conclusion

“Upon reading this, you may feel that this town is described as some sort of a paradise. And in a way, it is, especially if you are traveling from a big city and carrying a load of accumulated stress. But it’s not until you see, touch, smell, hear, and taste it for yourself that this European jewel will become a part of your entire being forever.”

It’s okay to be a little emotional and perhaps to even exaggerate a little in the concluding paragraph. Just notice that this one is more general than any of the body paragraphs.

It also touches upon or mentions every sense perception evoked in the body of the essay.

Your Key Takeaways

  • A descriptive essay is much more flexible and has a lot fewer rules than an argumentative essay.
  • Use the five sense perceptions – sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing – to structure your essay.
  • You don’t have to organize your essay by sense perceptions. You can divide your place into sections and walk the reader through each one.
  • You can even structure your essay as a string of paragraphs that describe one particular walk or route, from beginning to end.
  • Our last body paragraph is a description of the process of drinking hot mineral water in Karlovy Vary. It is a perfect example of a description of a process, if you ever want to write that kind of an essay.
  • Don’t persuade but subtly suggest.
  • Show, don’t tell, whenever you can.

The Most Beautiful Place on Earth the Austrian Alps Essay

Introduction, works cited.

The first image that comes to mind when talking about the most attractive place on earth is, of course, the image of the Austrian Alps. It was the perfect place for my summer vacation. Landscapes here are charming, captivating, and unforgettable. The greatness of the Alps makes the heart beat faster, binds the body and the mind. Their snow-covered slopes fascinate with their power, the melodic sound of crystal clear Alpine stream caresses the ear. The Alpine air smells fresh and cool, and breathing it deeply, you feel like every single cell of your body is filling. Silent noble mountains rise majestically above the cold narrow stream reflecting the clearness of the June sky.

First timid sun rays are splashing playfully in the dark glistening water; the birds are singing tunefully flying around their vast property high in the sky. As if they try to awaken the Alps from the eternal dream. They are so beautiful in their desperate impulse, but mountains are standing proudly and indifferently. Their puckered slopes shine in the sun creating a great variety of colors. White fluffy clouds gently hug the mountain tops with their enormous snowy wings. Milky islands of snow cover the coarse mountainsides everywhere. Narrow sinuous paths indented the mountains creating unique fantastic patterns and ornaments. Honeyed and subtle vanilla odor fills the fresh mountain air. The sickly sweet scent of beautiful mountain flowers spreads over the Alpine valleys. The succulent emerald grass is covered with tiny transparent sparkling droplets of the morning dew. The air is tinged with the fresh smell of the thick virgin forest. The meadows are spangled with beautiful odoriferous flowers. They are like colorful jewels on the bright green canvas. Their rich pleasant perfume saturates the air with pleasant morning coolness. Grizzled mountain peaks pierce the blue sky with their sharp snow-covered edges. Vast Alpine expanses give a sense of unconstrained freedom, lend wings and inspire. Deep green downy fir trees peek out from behind the mountains cautiously. They seem to be afraid of breaking the silent serenity of the mountains with their presence. Suddenly, birds fell silent, the wind dropped, the trees straightened up as if time stood still, enjoying the picturesque scenery. Gradually, the silence becomes intense and the taste of danger appears on the lips. But with a new breath of the wind, the forest emits delicate rustles and sonorous chirping of the birds. Mountain forest smells spicy, Alpine herbs exhale fine aroma of young juicy grass and blooming flowers. Grey mountain ranges frame the lake as mighty giants. The smooth lake surface reflects the boundless tender blue sky with its snow-white soft clouds. This crystal clear lake seems to be the heart of the mountains; every single breath of fresh air makes it beat more and more frequently. It embodies the purity and integrity of the Alpine mountains. Later, this lake will reflect the flame-colored sunset, the huge orange circle of the sun setting over the horizon line will flood the mountain with its hot flaming light. Scorching rays of the sun will warm the icy tops of the Alpine mountains, melt blond clouds, and light translucent haze will appear above the drowsy lake. Alpine meadows will be covered with thick orange sunlight. It will create a wide palette of colors and shades, from light yellow to deep red. Evening glow will paint green Alpine valleys scarlet shading off into a fiery red. The Austrian Alps are especially beautiful at night, starlight plays with light patches of blinding white snow on the rough slopes. They are like small shining diamonds between rugged ash-grey rocks. Night evokes the flight of fancy allowing the imagination to create the most unbelievable images of this magnificent landscape. Ringing silence soothes and pleases the soul with its humbleness. The wrinkled mountains look quiet and conciliated. The almost inaudible sound of rustling leaves dilutes night stillness. The air is cool and crisp. It has a light mint taste and breezy sweet flavor. Long breath fills the lungs with the icy chill. Thick dark Alpine forest smells of pine needles and dry branches, rough brushy treetops are swaying rhythmically with the wind. A faint tincture of Alpine fragrant herbs leaves a bitter taste on the lips. The new moon is hanging tranquility over the trees. Black silken Alpine lake distorts its reflection under the breath of the wind. Mountain stream composes its soft hypnotizing lullaby to the Alps. Sleepy mountains echo back every sound of its melodic harmonious song. A cooling breeze joins in this tuneful singing. The night air is full of a pleasant flowery smell. Vivid twinkling stars appear on high one by one. Those white tiny sparks illuminate the borderless night Alpine sky. Thick grey clouds are floating through their flickering dim light. A cold shiver runs down the spine of this fabulous scenery.

The picturesqueness and virginity of local nature attract tourists from every corner of the globe. Perhaps, there is no more diverse, mysterious, and enigmatic beauty than the beauty of the Austrian Alps.

Essays About Beauty: Top 5 Examples and 10 Prompts

Writing essays about beauty is complicated because of this topic’s breadth. See our examples and prompts to you write your next essay.

Beauty is short for beautiful and refers to the features that make something pleasant to look at. This includes landscapes like mountain ranges and plains, natural phenomena like sunsets and aurora borealis, and art pieces such as paintings and sculptures. However, beauty is commonly attached to an individual’s appearance,  fashion, or cosmetics style, which appeals to aesthetical concepts. Because people’s views and ideas about beauty constantly change , there are always new things to know and talk about.

Below are five great essays that define beauty differently. Consider these examples as inspiration to come up with a topic to write about.

1. Essay On Beauty – Promise Of Happiness By Shivi Rawat

2. defining beauty by wilbert houston, 3. long essay on beauty definition by prasanna, 4. creative writing: beauty essay by writer jill, 5. modern idea of beauty by anonymous on papersowl, 1. what is beauty: an argumentative essay, 2. the beauty around us, 3. children and beauty pageants, 4. beauty and social media, 5. beauty products and treatments: pros and cons, 6. men and makeup, 7. beauty and botched cosmetic surgeries, 8. is beauty a necessity, 9. physical and inner beauty, 10. review of books or films about beauty.

“In short, appreciation of beauty is a key factor in the achievement of happiness, adds a zest to living positively and makes the earth a more cheerful place to live in.”

Rawat defines beauty through the words of famous authors, ancient sayings, and historical personalities. He believes that beauty depends on the one who perceives it. What others perceive as beautiful may be different for others. Rawat adds that beauty makes people excited about being alive.

“No one’s definition of beauty is wrong. However, it does exist and can be seen with the eyes and felt with the heart.”

Houston’s essay starts with the author pointing out that some people see beauty and think it’s unattainable and non-existent. Next, he considers how beauty’s definition is ever-changing and versatile. In the next section of his piece, he discusses individuals’ varying opinions on the two forms of beauty: outer and inner.

At the end of the essay, the author admits that beauty has no exact definition, and people don’t see it the same way. However, he argues that one’s feelings matter regarding discerning beauty. Therefore, no matter what definition you believe in, no one has the right to say you’re wrong if you think and feel beautiful.

“The characteristic held by the objects which are termed “beautiful” must give pleasure to the ones perceiving it. Since pleasure and satisfaction are two very subjective concepts, beauty has one of the vaguest definitions.”

Instead of providing different definitions, Prasanna focuses on how the concept of beauty has changed over time. She further delves into other beauty requirements to show how they evolved. In our current day, she explains that many defy beauty standards, and thinking “everyone is beautiful” is now the new norm.

“…beauty has stolen the eye of today’s youth. Gone are the days where a person’s inner beauty accounted for so much more then his/her outer beauty.”

This short essay discusses how people’s perception of beauty today heavily relies on physical appearance rather than inner beauty. However, Jill believes that beauty is all about acceptance. Sadly, this notion is unpopular because nowadays, something or someone’s beauty depends on how many people agree with its pleasant outer appearance. In the end, she urges people to stop looking at the false beauty seen in magazines and take a deeper look at what true beauty is.

“The modern idea of beauty is taking a sole purpose in everyday life. Achieving beautiful is not surgically fixing yourself to be beautiful, and tattoos may have a strong meaning behind them that makes them beautiful.”

Beauty in modern times has two sides: physical appearance and personality. The author also defines beauty by using famous statements like “a woman’s beauty is seen in her eyes because that’s the door to her heart where love resides” by Audrey Hepburn. The author also tackles the issue of how physical appearance can be the reason for bullying, cosmetic surgeries, and tattoos as a way for people to express their feelings.

10 Helpful Prompts To Use in Writing Essays About Beauty

If you’re still struggling to know where to start, here are ten exciting and easy prompts for your essay writing:

While defining beauty is not easy, it’s a common essay topic. First, share what you think beauty means. Then, explore and gather ideas and facts about the subject and convince your readers by providing evidence to support your argument.

If you’re unfamiliar with this essay type, see our guide on how to write an argumentative essay .

Beauty doesn’t have to be grand. For this prompt, center your essay on small beautiful things everyone can relate to. They can be tangible such as birds singing or flowers lining the street. They can also be the beauty of life itself. Finally, add why you think these things manifest beauty.

Little girls and boys participating in beauty pageants or modeling contests aren’t unusual. But should it be common? Is it beneficial for a child to participate in these competitions and be exposed to cosmetic products or procedures at a young age? Use this prompt to share your opinion about the issue and list the pros and cons of child beauty pageants.

Essays About Beauty: Beauty and social media

Today, social media is the principal dictator of beauty standards. This prompt lets you discuss the unrealistic beauty and body shape promoted by brands and influencers on social networking sites. Next, explain these unrealistic beauty standards and how they are normalized. Finally, include their effects on children and teens.

Countless beauty products and treatments crowd the market today. What products do you use and why? Do you think these products’ marketing is deceitful? Are they selling the idea of beauty no one can attain without surgeries? Choose popular brands and write down their benefits, issues, and adverse effects on users.

Although many countries accept men wearing makeup, some conservative regions such as Asia still see it as taboo. Explain their rationale on why these regions don’t think men should wear makeup. Then, delve into what makeup do for men. Does it work the same way it does for women? Include products that are made specifically for men.

There’s always something we want to improve regarding our physical appearance. One way to achieve such a goal is through surgeries. However, it’s a dangerous procedure with possible lifetime consequences. List known personalities who were pressured to take surgeries because of society’s idea of beauty but whose lives changed because of failed operations. Then, add your thoughts on having procedures yourself to have a “better” physique.

People like beautiful things. This explains why we are easily fascinated by exquisite artworks. But where do these aspirations come from? What is beauty’s role, and how important is it in a person’s life? Answer these questions in your essay for an engaging piece of writing.

Beauty has many definitions but has two major types. Discuss what is outer and inner beauty and give examples. Tell the reader which of these two types people today prefer to achieve and why. Research data and use opinions to back up your points for an interesting essay.

Many literary pieces and movies are about beauty. Pick one that made an impression on you and tell your readers why. One of the most popular books centered around beauty is Dave Hickey’s The Invisible Dragon , first published in 1993. What does the author want to prove and point out in writing this book, and what did you learn? Are the ideas in the book still relevant to today’s beauty standards? Answer these questions in your next essay for an exiting and engaging piece of writing.

Describe a naturally beautiful place

You should say:

  • Where it is located
  • What it looks like
  • When you first went there

And explain why you think this place has a beautiful environment/ why you think is naturally beautiful

Describe a Naturally Beautiful Place – Sample Answer 1

The world is full of places that are brimming with awe-inspiring natural beauty, from lakes to abundant green valleys, cascading waterfalls, wide oceans, roaring rivers, delightful beaches, starry skies, and vast deserts stretching endless. It is certainly difficult to conjure the words to describe the flawless artistry of nature in such majestic landscapes. However, I will endeavour to do so by recounting my experiences of visiting a place that abounded in the beauty of nature.

For our Geography excursion, twenty students visited Madarihat town in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal. This region is filled with spectacular sights of natural beauty, including the Jayanti riverbed, the Buxa forest, and Jaldapara National Park.

The hotel we stayed at consisted of small cottages and was situated right in the middle of nature, surrounded by lush tea gardens on one side and dense forests on the other. Every night, the stars would come peeking from the clear, cloudless skies and I would find myself identifying constellations and marvelling at their beauty. The region was filled with mountainous rivers and small, rocky streams which looked picturesque. The vivid greenery all around us was contrasted by the bright cerulean autumn skies, gleaming with jubilant sunshine throughout the day. The national park was filled with countless species of trees and birds and animals such as wild bison, peacocks, and elephants roamed freely.

I have a particularly fond memory of the entire batch, along with our teachers and all the people from the tour company, having a picnic under the mellow November sun on the banks of the Jayanti river. The river was running dry since the monsoons had ended and made for the perfect picnic spot. Beyond us, the dense greenery of forests stretched as far as the eye could see and the imposing mountains of Bhutan rose up from behind them. The place looked strikingly beautiful in the soft light of the morning and it is a sight I will remember for as long as I will live.

Describe a Naturally Beautiful Place – Sample Answer 2

The world is filled with numerous beautiful places with snow-capped mountains, gigantic glaciers, awe-inspiring sceneries, rich, dense forests, captivating hills, and an endless ocean. In short, describing these wonderful places in words is undoubtedly not easy.

With diverse landscapes in the East to West and North to South, India has an assortment of treasures for nature lovers. Reckoned as the ‘Scotland of India’, Coorg is one of the naturally beautiful places in the country with its undulating lush-green hills and bright blue sky. The irresistible hilly region, nestled in Southern Karnataka in the lap of Western Ghats, is an ideal place for someone looking to escape the monotony of everyday life and explore nature.

The picturesque region looks ethereal, with some of the most extraordinary landscapes spanning verdant mountains, serene rivers, deep forests, and cascading waterfalls. Last year, I went to Coorg for the first time and was blown away by the breathtaking scenery of the picturesque hill station. As an adventure enthusiast, I loved trekking through the magnificent wilderness, kayaking and rafting on the Dubare River, microlight flying, and quad biking in the woods. Coorg is undeniably one of the most beautiful natural places with tropical weather conditions filled with nature’s abundance. It boasts exotic wildlife, trekking trails, austere landscapes, serenity and solitude in the midst of the euphoric sounds of a waterfall, making it a perfect vacation destination.

How To Write A Descriptive Essay About A Place (Step By Step)

Table of Contents

Descriptive essay about a place

Descriptive essay focus on specific details about an object, a place or an event. It presents an object to the reader using vivid language for the reader to have a mental picture  of what the writer is describing. When composing a detailed essay about a particular place,  the paper needs to present clear descriptions about the location to the reader. Writing an essay about a familiar place gives the writer  an opportunity to present his personal experience and feelings the place invokes in him.

How to start a descriptive essay

Before presenting the beautiful scenery, the author needs to  be observant of the surroundings because the essay would require detailed explanations and the vibrant experiences about the place.  The author needs to identify all the important items that make the place worth describing. A good essay should be based on personal experience whereby the author can easily reflect about his experience.

The first step of developing an essay is to start with a brief introduction, a descriptive introduction would determine whether the reader would want to continue reading the article or not. The author needs to use words that would attract the reader’s attention at the beginning of the essay. An introduction should start with a strong statement, and in the end, the writer needs to present the thesis statement by relating it to what is being described. The thesis statement reveals why the place is important to the author.

A good introduction can start with an anecdote, the author can narrate an interesting story to heighten the reader’s curiosity. A good anecdote sets a good tone for the essay and acts as a transition sentence  from the introduction to the body of the essay. An introductory paragraph needs to mention the name, the exact address, and other exciting things that makes to reader wants to  visit  the location.

How to write main part

The essay body should express  feelings, the taste, the smell, the sights and sounds of the place. The author describes the different aspects of the location for the reader to develop a  mental picture of how the place looks like.  For instance, when describing your grandmother’s home, the body essay describes how beautiful the place looks like, including the lovely trees, her tasty cookies, the most soil around the nearby river,  the dishes clicking in the kitchen and how you feel the about the particles of the wood on the staircase. The author can also talk about the people living nearby and any unique features around the home .

Apart from detailed descriptions, the author needs to reflect about the place and make important connections to it. For instance, the essay needs to highlight why  the place is a  safe haven from everyday stress. The author can also present some of the feeling associated with the location, this will make the readers aware why the place is important to the author.

How to conclude a descriptive essay

The concluding paragraph should rephrase the inspiration of the essay providing detail and personal feelings and also make recommendations for the readers. A good conclusion should describe why the place is significant. Even though the descriptive language used can provoke the reader’s emotion, the audience wants to know why the author spent a lot of time describing the place. Apart from just highlighting the good experience about the place, a good conclusion explains the significance of the essay theme.  The conclusion simply confirms to the audience what was already presented,  but using selected sensory language for the readers to believe that the place is amazing. A good paper should end on a strong note, leaving the audience feeling satisfied in the concluding paragraph. A good descriptive essay should create excitement for its readers.

It’s unlikely to see any fan or air conditioning and it’s gets pretty hot in the Philippines. Despite all the inconveniences of El Nido, the beauty of this place makes it all worth it so you have to check it out. If you end up going, make sure you do the four island tour and Taraw climb if you’re willing to your risk your life. It’s extremely jagged but the view you get is

Inside there’s the typical tourist items but what intrigues me the most would be the gallery walk. The lookout tower is my favorite facility in the park. I would go to the top of the tower every time to feel the gentle sea breeze and fresh air. It is just my imagination as I never go there in summer, but I bet it would be so relaxing to enjoy the wind after sweating. Discrimination In The Philippines

Experiences, Perceptions, and Discrimination within Bisexuals Kristel Anne Ocampo Juli-ann L. Alonso-Balmonte For years, the lesbian, gay, bisexuals and transgender (LGBT) community in the Philippines have always make a stand for the equality and respect from our society and have been crying out for action from the government specifically for the passage of laws that will protect the rights of all people regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). The 2011 Philippine National LGBT Conference official statement said that despite the growing tolerance towards LGBT people, acceptance is still yet to be achieved. LGBT persons in the Philippines still face violence and discrimination from the family, from civil society organizations, from medical and health institutions, in schools, in employment and from the government. They have been kicked out of their homes.

100 Words Essay On The Most Beautiful Place I’ve Visited In English

The most beautiful place that I’ve had the pleasure to visit would, undoubtedly, be Bangalore. Oh, what a city it is!

With culture and art overflowing, it is the perfect tourist spot. In fact, the Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens, Sultan’s palace, and Ulsoor lake are popular tourist haunts known for their exquisite beauty.

Aside from its physical beauty, the city is a beautiful amalgamation of people who speak Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Telegu, and more!

Everyone should visit Bangalore in their life at least once and take in its beauty and bustle! After the movie ‘Bangalore Days’, I was mesmerized by the wonder of Bangalore that has captivated many!

My favorite place that I enjoy spending a lot of time in is The Animal Care Association. I love animals of all kinds, I love helping them find shelter, or offering them some simple customized foods.

A year and a half ago I was able to join The Animal Care Association. I got to know them through a friend of mine. He told me about them after he saw me care a lot about animals and I love taking care of them and helping them.

Therefore, this association aroused my curiosity as soon as he talked to me about. It is a non-governmental association, which includes a very large number of people.

We volunteer a lot when calls come to the association to go and help animals, especially small ones that have lost their father and mother, or an animal that was crossing the road and had an accident. Such things I love to do.

Three months ago there was a little stray puppy on the side of the road, a person called the association and told them. We went to see what would happen, I was so worried about crossing the road and having an accident.

I was so happy when we found him on the side of the road and he didn’t cross. I cared about him a lot and played with him for a while to calm him down.

I suggested to the supervisor that we walk around the residential areas to see if we can find his parents. And indeed, after a little searching, we found his  owner was looking for him.

I take advantage of the beach near us, and go to release the negative energy inside me so that I can return to study and activities that I do with all the vitality and energy.

My favorite place to live essay

I would much rather live in the middle of forests and rivers than city life. Whenever I go with my family for camping, or spend some times and occasions with my family and relatives in rural areas far from the city and its hustle and bustle, I find a wonderful inner feeling, which I can describe to peace and comfort.

After a few days, I find myself feeling energetic. I also notice that I sleep better, without frequent worry throughout the night, beside enjoying the smell that spreads everywhere, emanating from the trees, roses and green life surrounding us from everywhere.

I enjoy very much fishing in the lakes and relaxing from time to time. This is the life I want to spend my life in, away from the fast life, stress and anxiety, and live in fear.

My favourite natural place essay

I find the true magic in everything from God’s creation, and no matter how much man has developed and built architectural buildings and established entertainment clubs and others that do not match the beauty of nature and the landscapes that are God’s creation.

I always find myself happier and more comfortable in the vast areas, which contain mountains and green areas, and seeing the city from the outside, and not from the inside, I feel great pressure and lack of focus when I am in the city. As soon as I go out and see the city from outside, I feel like I have put a heavy weight on my shoulders.

Therefore, my favorite place that I like to spend time in is the natural areas outside the city, which contain large areas and are not crowded.

My favorite place in the world essay

My favorite place in the whole world is the beach. There is no specific beach I prefer to be in, what I like about the beach is the smell of the sea, seeing the sea and the water in front of me moving and forming waves.

I feel calm and psychologically comfortable when I listen to the sounds of the waves around me as I look and breathe deeply on the shore.

I don’t much prefer to swim, I do it from time to time, but I enjoy walking on the beach without shoes on my feet, walking around feeling the sand on my toes, and letting the water wet my feet, this is the most beautiful feeling I love and prefer.

Describe your favorite place essay

My favorite place is camping in the desert, seeing the yellow sand surrounding me from every side, moving away from technology and any modern gadgets, returning to barbecue using traditional methods, sleeping in tents, and talking to each other automatically and naturally without any electronic devices.

I feel comfortable and calm in such places, and I feel that my mind is taking a break from everything around me that requires focus and attention.

Being in such places helps me to feel my surroundings, and I see many things that I used to neglect to see despite my presence because I was busy communicating with my friends on the phone, or playing while I was wandering outside.

Therefore, I find that this is my favorite place that I would like to spend great times in and return to from time to time.

Do Not Make Survival Even More Difficult for People on the Streets

A photo of a cardboard box broken down to form a sleeping pad.

By Laura Riley

Ms. Riley is the director of the clinical program at the School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, and the author of “Homeless Advocacy.”

In 2013, Grants Pass, Ore., came up with a strategy to deal with a growing homeless population in the city of roughly 40,000, one that might best be described as kicking the can down the road.

Through a series of ordinances, the city essentially made it illegal to sleep outside in public. In particular, anyone sleeping anywhere in public with bedding, a blanket or a sleeping bag would be breaking the law.

“The point,” the City Council president explained at the time, “is to make it uncomfortable enough for them in our city so they will want to move on down the road.”

Unhoused individuals wouldn’t have much choice. There are no homeless shelters in Grants Pass. At least 600 people in the city were unhoused in 2018 and 2019, according to counts by a local nonprofit that serves the unhoused.

Now the United States Supreme Court is being asked whether the enforcement of the city’s camping regulations, which apply to all of the city’s residents but affect them in vastly different ways, violate the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. Oral arguments are scheduled for Monday.

Of course, weighing the legality of camping obscures the real issue, which is how, in a nation with roughly 650,000 unhoused people, the federal, state and local governments can make sure there are enough beds for people to sleep in. Forcing unhoused people to the next town does not create housing that is affordable or available.

The case is an appeal to a ruling by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit that prohibited Grants Pass from using citations to enforce its public camping ordinance. The Ninth Circuit had earlier prohibited cities from enforcing criminal restrictions on public camping unless there was access to adequate temporary shelter.

In the decision being challenged by Grants Pass, the Ninth Circuit concluded that the city “cannot, consistent with the Eighth Amendment, enforce its anti-camping ordinances against homeless persons for the mere act of sleeping outside with rudimentary protection from the elements, or for sleeping in their car at night, when there is no other place in the city for them to go.”

Which there rarely is, in Grants Pass or elsewhere, and which is why people often have no choice but to sleep outside.

In a friend of the court brief, the National Homelessness Law Center argued that Grants Pass had “rejected” its obligation to care for unhoused residents and that vulnerable groups would continue to be marginalized unless the court decides once and for all that those ordinances are cruel. In its brief to the court, the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund noted that the laws disproportionately affect people with disabilities and don’t serve any rehabilitative or deterrent interest.

If nothing else, one thing this case has done is unite many officials on the left and the right of the political spectrum, from San Francisco to Arizona. They have complained in briefs to the court that the Ninth Circuit has hamstrung their communities in dealing with homeless encampments.

But homelessness arises from policy decisions, not from a ruling by an appellate court. The Supreme Court should uphold the Ninth Circuit’s ruling. Otherwise it will open the door for communities to pass local laws that effectively punish unhoused people for existing within their borders, making what is clearly cruel permissible.

It would not be unexpected for the Supreme Court’s conservative majority to give the green light for the kind of camping bans at issue. Unhoused people would be pushed further to the margins, increasingly out of sight and mind. They will still be out there, parked in cars in rural areas or subsisting on urban streets, perhaps after being fined or jailed for the crime of trying to survive without a roof over their heads.

This case shines a light on the abdication of responsibility by governments at all levels to their unhoused residents. Instead of arguing about the legality of bans on sleeping in public, we should be asking: Why move people down the road to another community, one that is likely also short on shelter beds?

There is no doubt that the path to creating permanent housing (and more temporary shelter) is politically challenging and expensive. But there are many solutions along this path that go beyond what lawyers and the courts, even our highest one, can accomplish, and that the public should be demanding.

Governments at all levels should invest in homelessness prevention programs and strategies. Those include providing housing subsidies to people who otherwise could lose their housing and supportive transitional services for those leaving mental health treatment and correctional centers.

People on the brink of homelessness should have a right to counsel in eviction proceedings and should be offered the possibility of mediation in housing courts to give them a chance to remain in their houses or apartments.

Businesses should be increasing employment opportunities by not requiring a permanent address in job applications. Lawmakers should create more pathways for people to clear their criminal records, some that arise from targeted enforcement of low-level, nonviolent offenses, because those records can make it much more difficult to get a job.

For populations with unique needs, such as young people and veterans, social service agencies should pursue particularized interventions that address the underlying reasons that pushed individuals into homelessness.

And, of course, we should be building more housing, plain and simple, and we should be providing affordable housing incentives in areas with grocery stores and medical care nearby.

The Supreme Court should not further criminalize homelessness. But whether it does or not, this case should put governments at all levels on notice that humane policies can help to reduce homelessness. We don’t have to let this crisis continue.

Laura Riley is the director of the clinical program at the School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, and the author of “Homeless Advocacy.”

Kevin Bacon/Instagram

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick just can’t get enough of nature!

The Footloose star, 65, celebrated Earth Day by sharing a glimpse into his and his wife’s outdoor adventures throughout the years — which included sweet snaps of the pair hiking and going to the beach together.

He kicked off his Instagram post with a romantic photo of the himself and Sedgwick sitting side-by-side on the sand, each with a large hat to protect their faces from the sun. He also shared a cute picture of the two on what appeared to be a hike. The actor had his arm wrapped around his wife’s waist and she held onto him as they smiled at the camera in front of a small stream.

In another snap, the couple could be seen posing while sitting together on a dock.

Bacon also shared individual shots that he seemingly took of his wife, including one where she posed in front of a large green tree surrounded by rocks and another where she stood in front of a lake as the sun fell behind the mountains in the background of the photo.

“Mother Earth really is a beautiful place. Let’s not take it for granted,” Bacon captioned the post shared on April 22. “Happy @EarthDay, everyone.”

Sedgwick and Bacon celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary back in September 2023. To mark the occasion, the Leave the World Behind actor shared a throwback photo of the pair cuddling up on a chair.

"35 years feels like a heartbeat. #Anniversary," the actor wrote in the caption.

Last week, The Closer star also shared some insight on how she and her husband balanced their careers along with their marriage and family life all these years on TODAY with Hoda and Jenna while promoting her upcoming play All of Me .

"I mean, I don't know — I was raised in New York, he was raised in Philly, we brought our kids up in New York. I'm not really sure — it's what we do, it's not what we are, right? I don't really know," she shared in response. "I think we've just sort of always had the same priorities, which is keep your feet on the ground."

She also commented on the viral TikTok she and Bacon made in March showing them each wearing matching a white tank top and blue jeans. The couple joked in the video they were beginning to look similar after more than three decades of marriage.

"I don't think we look alike — I literally was wearing his tank top and jeans, which is a little scary that I can fit into his tank top and jeans, but never mind," Sedgwick teased.

The pair, who met on the set of the 1987 movie Lemon Sky , are next set to share the screen together in the upcoming film Connescence .
