Officiating crew conference assignments for the 2023-24 bowl games.
Football Zebras is obtaining the officiating assignments to the 2023-24 bowl games and reporting them here.
Bowls are distributed to the conferences in a manner than an officiating crew is not from one of the participating team’s conferences. The Power 5 conferences work at least 5 bowls each (including all the New Year’s Six and the National Championship). The Group of 5 conferences work 3 bowls each, with one conference getting a fourth bowl. The National Championship game is officiated by the conference that does not have a school in the playoffs, and this year the ACC gets the officiating honors.
Each conference has its own criteria for determining the officials assigned to a bowl game. In some cases, a conference will consider its championship game to be equivalent to a bowl assignment, and not give those officials another postseason game.
For the tables listed below, all times are Eastern, and the conference that assigns the officials for each game is listed in italics . To minimize errors in the listings, names are as they were printed on the media flipcards this season, which we hope did not introduce new errors. The following symbols are placed next to the names of the officials and (new this year) the replay crew, and the criteria for those symbols is listed at the bottom of the post.

Symbol criteria
Participation symbols are placed after the on-field officials (excluding alternates) and the replay staff, and the following criteria apply:
Officials that were assigned alternates from last year’s bowls are not marked with a star.
The Mackie Development Program run by the NFL is a development program which the league uses as a hiring pool. Officials will attend meetings and shadow NFL officials during OTAs, training camps, and preseason games. The MDP also assigns officials to college invitational all-star games — Hula Bowl, Senior Bowl, Shrine Bowl, and the Legacy Bowl — for evaluation purposes. Officials marked in these tables must have been in the preseason program or worked a college invitational game in the last 3 years. The NFL did not provide a list for 2023 development officials, as they have in previous years, but we have included those that worked the 2023 invitational games.
The rosters of the spring pro leagues (plus XFL coordinator Marvel July) for the XFL 2020 and 2023 and the USFL 2022-23 are included, but officials who only worked the 2019 AAF are not included as of this year.
Conference championship assignments are indicated for non-alternate officials at the end of the 2023 season.

College Football Playoff referees: Officiating crews for Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl
By cody williams | dec 31, 2022.
Looking at the College Football Playoff referees with the officiating crews for both the Fiesta Bowl and the Peach Bowl.
Though many players would argue that any bowl game is important, there’s no denying that the stakes are just higher for the College Football Playoff. So for TCU vs. Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl and Ohio State vs. Georgia in the Peach Bowl as the semifinal matchups, all eyes were on those games.
Because of that, you’d expect that the College Football Playoff referees would be the best of the best that the officiating world had to offer. Of course, refs are always going to be insanely criticized, especially when they are on the biggest stage in the sport.
Having said that, the crews were meticulously selected for the CFP bowl games and here are the refs that were selected for each game.
Fiesta Bowl referees for TCU vs Michigan
It was an SEC officiating crew — one affiliated with neither team playing in the game — for the Fiesta Bowl. Here were the assignments set out for the referees in Arizona.
- Head Referee: Jason Autrey
- Umpire: Brent Sowell
- Head Lines: Nicholas Theriot
- Line Judge: Michael Taylor
- Field Judge: Daniel Gautreaux
- Side Judge: Sean Petty
- Back Judge: Martin Hankins
- Center Judge: Chris Garner
- Alternate: Scott Walker
- Replay Official: David Almand
- Communicator: Marc Gervais
Peach Bowl referees for Ohio State vs Georgia
For the Peach Bowl officiating crew, they once again went with a crew not affiliated with either team as it was a Pac-12 group, though fans from that conference will tell you that might not be a good thing. Here’s a look at the refs for the Ohio State vs. Georgia matchup.
- Head Referee: Chris Coyte
- Umpire: Greg Adams
- Head Lines: Darryl Johnson
- Line Judge: Dale Keller
- Field Judge: Steve Currie
- Side Judge: Jeff Dahle
- Back Judge: Joe Johnston
- Center Judge: John Love
- Alternate: Steve Strimling
- Replay Official: Jerry Meyerhoff
- Communicator: Terry Leyden
The hope for these crews, of course, is that they don’t become storylines for either College Football Playoff game.

What effect do you guys think the conference of the refs have on the games?
My first thought is the style of play they are most used to is the style they will call in the most friendly way . . .
Big 10 games have better chance of going under.

LSU vs. Iowa is more than an Elite Eight game. The rematch can grow the sport even more
ALBANY, N.Y. — This is a game that needs no introductions.
You know the stars. The storylines. The beef. What’s on the line.
Back on Selection Sunday, as the teams were placed into the hellishly packed Albany 2 Region, everyone saw it. Fell out of their chairs. And then crossed their fingers.
The potential matchup everyone noticed is now scheduled. And this game is so many things. Distilled to its most basic terms, it’s simple: Iowa and LSU . Caitlin and Angel. The rematch.
Run. It. Back. Iowa and LSU will meet in the Elite Eight on Monday, April 1 in a rematch of the 2023 NCAA Women's Basketball Title game. Call it now, who wins this time? pic.twitter.com/6tZwWUpzok — The Athletic (@TheAthletic) March 30, 2024
Of course the path to a national title would require one going through the other. Perhaps this matchup should’ve come later than the Elite Eight, but here we are — 40 minutes away from LSU or Iowa cutting down a net and the other team boarding a long, quiet flight home. Not unlike the last time they met.

Less than a year ago, LSU and Iowa faced off in Dallas for the 2023 national championship. The Tigers won 102-85, catching fire from beyond the arc — not a typical trend for them — and giving the tournament’s ending a magical feeling for anyone who saw it. The game — which set a record for television viewership, drawing 9.9 million viewers on ABC and peaking at 12.6 million — acted as a bellwether and a benchmark for women’s basketball.
“You would never think that we would now be considered celebrities from a basketball game,” Angel Reese said. “Things come so fast; life comes so fast. I’m happy with where we are and helping to grow women’s basketball, and I’m going to look back in 40 years and just know that we were trailblazers.”
Angel Reese doesn't need to be liked, but she and LSU demand your respect
The title game accentuated the fact that many within the sport have seen coming for decades: Women’s basketball has been pushing closer to a breaking point, one that was hastened by the past several years of coverage and conversation but built by decades of powerful players, programs and coaches. It highlighted the immense talent of some of the brightest stars in the game. It sparked conversation around trash-talking, media coverage, social issues and officiating. It silenced some haters and brought new ones to the game.
In short, women’s college basketball was treated as a legitimate sport.
Since then, LSU and Iowa have gone their separate ways but traveled similar paths as the sport has continued to explode. They returned home, and their players entered a new era in which fame is now part of the deal.
In the offseason, LSU hit the transfer portal hard. The Tigers brought in two of the nation’s top players: Aneesah Morrow and Hailey Van Lith. Morrow, a DePaul transfer, watched that national title game at home in Chicago with her siblings and parents. Van Lith watched from her apartment in Louisville. Even then, Van Lith saw what was happening with the sport.
“Just the ability for the stars to shine and everyone’s personalities to show. Just watching it, you knew people were going to become fans of women’s basketball,” Van Lith said. “It was a great game to watch. It was exciting to watch. Any fan who’s a fan of basketball would’ve enjoyed watching that game. That’s when I was like, ‘We’re making traction here.’ This is awesome for us.”
Caitlin Clark is a college basketball sensation. In Iowa, she’s much more
When the 2023-24 season kicked off, LSU and Iowa immediately sold out arenas. So did South Carolina , Virginia Tech , USC , NC State, Notre Dame , UConn and others. The increased attendance and TV ratings, including the viewership numbers from the title game, led to a record-breaking agreement signed in January between the NCAA and ESPN that valued the women’s NCAA Tournament at $65 million annually, a tenfold increase in valuation from the previous deal.
En route to Albany, Iowa and LSU won games in convincing fashions and lost games in devastating moments. Caitlin Clark and Reese are asked about their legacies countlessly. In every response, they say they want to impact the next generation. They want little girls and boys to see them as they are: elite athletes. They want people to see the sport for what it is: exciting, intense, important.
And now, in what could be either of their final games at the college level (Clark has declared for the WNBA Draft; Reese hasn’t announced her intentions), their paths will cross once again.
Whatever happens in Albany on Monday night, this remains true: Reese and Clark have brought fans to the game. They’ve helped grow the foundation and broaden the reach of women’s basketball. They both stand on the shoulders of giants while laying a path for generations to follow.
“It’s just going to be a really great game for women’s basketball,” Clark said.
She’s right. These are the moments that push the sport forward. The stars, the players, the plays. The storylines, the drama. Monday night is just 40 minutes, 10 players and a basketball.
It’s also so much more.

NCAA Women's Tournament bracket 2024: Printable bracket, games, matchups for Elite Eight of March Madness
The tournament is winding down, but the action is heating up as we reach the elite eight.
And then there were eight. The 2024 NCAA Women's Tournament is near its conclusion with the Elite Eight now officially set for tip off. All four No. 1 seeds are still alive and vying to reach the Final Four. That includes top overall seed South Carolina, who maintains its undefeated record, looking to become the 10th team to complete an undefeated season as national champions. Plus, Iowa, Texas and USC are all still in the mix.
The other four teams are just as deserving to this point, but interestingly no No. 2 seeds made it to this point. In fact, each No. 1 seed will take on the No. 3 seed in their region. Oregon State, NC State, LSU and UConn all made it through their first three games to reach this point and have a chance to score the upset and make the Final Four.
Sunday will see two teams punch their ticket to the Final Four in Cleveland. Things get underway with South Carolina taking on Oregon State in Albany, New York. Then, attention turns out west with Texas battling NC State from Portland, Oregon.
Below you will find a viewable/printable 2024 NCAA Women's Tournament bracket. Thanks for stopping by, but don't forget to continue to checking in throughout the next three weeks. CBS Sports will offer complete coverage of the events with the latest news, results and breakdowns of the biggest matchups.
March Madness® is better with friends, especially when you beat them! Get your bracket pools ready now and invite your friends, family and co-workers to play.
As usual, we'll have a variety of methods in which you can view the bracket on the device of your choice. And you absolutely want to make sure you join our Bracket Games where you can compete against the public or create a bracket group to battle your family, friends and/or co-workers.
