Student Travel Grants Overview

To promote the participation of students, ACM SIGMM and ACM ICMR 2024 organisation committee will offer student travel grants for students.

Students must apply for a travel grant prior to the deadline of 25th April. The applicant must be a SIGMM student member ( create an account ) at the time of application.

Successful grantees need to pay the conference registration fee and make their own travel arrangements. Grantees must also present themselves at the registration desk of the conference and sign an attendance record, which we will share with SIG MM. Upon returning home from the conference, grantees will be sent a link to a web page on the ACM website where they can upload their receipts. Grantees travelling from within the same continent can be reimbursed up to USD 1,000 while students travelling intercontinental can get up to USD 2,000. These rates are fixed. Students are allowed claim economy-class flights, local travel, accommodation, meals, but not conference registration.

Student Volunteers

Students who are awarded student travel grants will be expected to carry out light service as student volunteers during the conference.

Students being the primary authors of an accepted paper in the main conference or workshops will be given preference in the selection process.

Students without papers accepted for publication at ACM MM ICMR 2024 but involved in research closely related to the topics of the conference can also be considered.

Student Travel Grants

Students must apply for a travel grant prior to the conference. Successful awardees can include their registration fee, via a complimentary registration from the conference, as part of their award. To enable more students to be benefited from attending ACM ICMR 2023, students don’t have to have a paper at the conference in order to apply for a SIGMM travel award. The applicant must be a SIGMM student member ( create an account ) at the time of application.

Grantees need to pay the conference registration fee and make their own travel arrangements.

Student Volunteers

Students who are awarded student travel grants might be expected to carry out light service as student volunteers during the conference.

International travel support, science and engineering research board.

International Travel Support (ITS) Scheme provides financial assistance to Indian researchers for presenting a research paper in an international scientific event (conference, seminar, workshop etc.) held abroad. In addition, support is also provided to young scientists (age limit below 35 years as on date of start of the event) for attending training programmes, Short-term schools and Workshops. Economy class air-fare by shortest route, airport-tax and visa fees are provided under the scheme. 

Registration fee as per actual or Rs. 50,000/- whichever is less will be provided to young scientist (Age< 35 on the date of start of event) in addition to the above support. Applications can be submitted within the window of 60 – 90 days in advance from the date of start of the event. The system will not accept early or late submission of applications. However, applicant who has already submitted a proposal will not be eligible to apply again within next 90 days from the date of submission of the first application.

Eligibility :

  • Applicant should be an active Indian researcher engaged in R & D work in recognized academic institutions or research laboratories in India.
  • The applicant should have an invitation for presenting an original scientific paper. Similar invitation is required in the case of young scientists attending training programmes such as short term courses, summer/​winter schools, workshop etc.
  • The applicant should not have availed financial assistance under this Scheme during the last three years.
  • The scientific event should be of an international character. Invitation of personal nature such as for carrying out post-doctoral work, informal training programmes/​courses, internship, observer-ship etc. will not be eligible for support.
  • Applicant must have obtained Master’s degree in Science or Bachelor’s degree in professional courses from a recognized University by the time of submission of application.

For successful online submission of the application the following points may be noted:

  • Applicant(s) should first register into the online website click here to register

  • The researchers are required to apply online through the portal between 60 – 90 days in advance prior to the start date of the event. The system will not accept early or late submission of applications.

1. ABOUT THE SCHEME
The Department has a scheme under which, financial assistance towards travel cost, is considered for participation in International conference/ seminar/ symposium/ workshop, which are not sponsored by International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU)- However, Young scientists up to the age of 35 years are also eligible to seek support even for ICSU Conferences, training courses and short-term schools. The scheme does not provide assistance towards maintenance, registration fee, airport tax, taxi fare and other cost. Only 50% of International air fare will be given by the Department.
2. ELIGIBILITY
(a) Indian Scientists working in Educational/ Acdemic Institutions and Research Laboratories are eligible for travel support to participate in conferences etc. on selective basis.
(b) The application has an accepted paper for presentation or an invitation to chair a session or as a Keunote speaker. Young Scientists (below 35 years of age) are eligible to apply for attending training programmes/ Short term courses/ schools. (c) The applicant has NOT availed of financial assistance from DST in the last three years. (d) The conference/ training course is of an International character. (Applications to attend annual meetings of professional societies will not be considered). (e) THe applications should be forwarded through proper channel and must reach DST 8 weeks prior to the date of the conference. (f) CANVASSING WILL DISQUALIFY THE APPLICANT FOR THE TRAVEL GRANT.
Note: The air passages are to be booked directly on a National Carrier i.e. Air India/ Indian Airlines, as the case may be, EVEN TO PLACES WHERE AIR INDIA/ INDIAN AIRLINES FLIGHTS DO NOT OPERATE, the passage is to be booked THROUGH AIR INDIA/ INDIAN AIRLINES.
3. ENCLOSURES
The following documents are to be attached with the application.
(a) One copy of the completed Application form and Bio-data. (b) A copy of letter from other national or international agency committing to bear partial cost of TRAVEL (The Document must be Flagged) (c) Invitation from organisers (d) Detailed announcement of the conference (Please attach Phtocopy of the announcement). (e) Letter of acceptance of paper for presentation and/ or invitation from organisers to chair the session/ participate as a keynote speaker. (f) Abstract of the paper to be presented by the applicant at the conference. (g) A certificate from Air-India indicating th cost of return air fair by economy/ excursion class by shortest route. 4. The Scientists may please ensure that all the essential documents mentioned in para 3 above are properly attached and tagged with the application, INCOMPLETE APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. 5. The Department, in the event of selection will initially issue a commitment letter agreeing to the support. The committed amount will be reimbursed to the scientist only on his return to India after participation in the conference and on submitting a detailed report, a copy of air ticket etc. within two months from the date of the conference. 6. The decision on the application is expected to be communicated about four weeks before the commencement of the conference. No interim corrspondence will be possible. 7. The application complete in all respects together with enclosures as indicated at para 3 above, must reach the Department of Science & Technology at least Eight Weeks prior to the commencement of the conference duly forwarded by the Head of the Institution. About the Award

The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation has been supporting innovative work in research and scholarship for more than four decades. The Inlaks Research Travel Grant assists registered PhD. students at Indian universities to undertake short-term visits to institutions abroad to collect material, use facilities and consult experts.

Eligibility criteria

The applicant must

  • Be a registered PhD candidate at an Indian university for at least two years but not more than three years at the time of the application.
  • Have a first-class degree at the Bachelor’s (Honors) and master’s level.
  • Those born on or after 1 st January 1988 are eligible to apply for the grant.
  • Be an Indian passport holder, currently resident in India.
  • The award is given only in  Humanities and Social Sciences related subjects.

Application Process

  • The application form is accessible and downloadable from below.
  • A sample of written work (3000-5000 words) on the subject of research should accompany the application. This should preferably be a draft chapter (with full annotation and documentation) as part of the PhD thesis along with details regarding the reading list, surveys or any other work done towards the thesis.
  • Evidence of positive communication with the resource person or institution abroad and an agreement of the arrangements made.
  • The candidate’s ability, focus and progress in the work done under her/his supervision.
  • The candidate’s need to go abroad.
  • That the funds for the visit abroad cannot be obtained from any other source.
  • Two letters of references.

Other details

  • Reasonable travel allowance reimbursable on actuals (up to USD 1000).
  • Maintenance expenses (up to USD 2000 per month).
  • Funds for buying materials and making copies of relevant literature reimbursable on actuals (up to USD 500).
  • Health allowance reimbursable on actuals (up to maximum USD 500).
  • Any material collected by the candidate using the said allowance (literature, copies, instruments etc.) will become the property of the candidate’s institution for wider use.
  • All this material must carry a statement regarding the support received from the  Inlaks Research and Travel Grant.
  • The grant must be utilized within 9 months from it being awarded.
  • A first round of short-listing on the basis of the written evidence submitted.
  • An interview either in person or over zoom with a panel of experts.
  • The candidates short-listed for the interview will be informed by early October 2023. The final interviews will be held in mid-October 2023.
  • A candidate can apply for either the ‘Inlaks Research and Travel Grant’ or the ‘Inlaks-Kings India Institute Studentship’ in any given year.

Your application data is primarily held on our online application system. The selectors, interviewers and administrators shall have access to your applications. ICMR International Travel grant is for young to senior non-ICMR biomedical research scholars to support them attend international workshops/symposium/ conferences/etc./.

About ICMR — The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research, is one of the oldest medical research bodies in the world.

About the travel grant — The Scheme provides financial assistance for presenting research paper or chairing a session as also delivering a lecture/delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event (Conference/Seminar/Symposia/Workshops) to Non-ICMR biomedical Scientists/Researchers.

In addition, support is also provided to young scientists/researchers (age limit 35 years as on date of Conference), nurses and paramedical staff for attending training programmes and short- term schools/workshops/courses on the basis of the priority areas already defined.

Full excursion/airfare of economy class by shortest route, airport tax and visa fees are provided under the scheme. Registration fee is provided only to young scientists in addition to the above support. The Council will provide financial assistance max. of Rs 1,50,000/- to selected candidates.

Eligibility criteria – The applicant should be a biomedical scientist engaged in R&D work. Senior scientists (above 35 years of age) working in academic institutions and research laboratories are eligible to apply only to international scientific events (Conference/Seminar/Symposium/Workshop) which are not sponsored by International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). Young scientists (age limit 35 years as on date of conference) are, however, considered for support even for ICSU sponsored events.

Application deadline – Rolling throughout the year. Your application should reach ICMR 2 months prior to the conference date.

Intergroup Dialogue Project 2017 Conference

The Graduate School is pleased to provide research degree students (M.A./M.S., Ph.D., J.S.D., D.M.A., M.F.A.) the opportunity to travel the world to enhance their scholarship. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for grant funding related to professional conferences, research travel, or summer language education.

Conference Grant – Application Form (Online)

The Graduate School offers Conference Grant awards of up to $700 to research degree students to attend a professional conference at which they are presenting. Online conference presentations are eligible for a grant of up to $200. Grant amounts are detailed in the  Locations and Awards PDF . See the application form for more information about eligibility requirements and instructions. Conference grants are reviewed by the 9th of the month preceding the month in which the conference occurs, and grants are awarded to eligible students by the 15th of the preceding month. Applications are accepted up to 30 days following the end of the conference date.  

Students are eligible for one conference grant per year and must be within time to degree limits. Masters students are eligible for conference travel grants starting in their first semester until the end of the eighth semester of enrollment.  Ph.D. students are eligible for conference travel grants starting in their first semester until the end of the fourteenth semester of enrollment.

Research Travel Grant – Application Form (Online)

The Graduate School awards grants of up to $2,500 for Ph.D. degree students and $1,000 for master’s degree students for travel that is directly related to dissertation and thesis research, not conference travel. Recipients must be enrolled (full-time or in absentia) in a graduate research degree program (M.A./M.S., M.F.A., D.M.A., J.S.D., or Ph.D.) through the Graduate School and be registered at the time of the award. Master’s degree students up to their eighth semester of study and Ph.D. students up to their 14th semester of study are eligible to apply. (Note that the post-A exam requirement has been waived beginning with Spring 2022 submissions.)

In a typical year, the Graduate School awards 50-65 grants. Applications are due annually on October 1, February 1, and April 1 with a call for applications circulated a month prior to the deadline. Decisions will be announced by the first of the month following the application deadline. For example, decisions will be announced by November 1 for the October 1 deadline. Summer Foreign Language Grant – Application Form (Online)

Grants of up to $1,000 are offered to research degree students for summer travel to foreign countries for intensive (non-English) language instruction. See the application form for more information about eligibility requirements and instructions. Applications are due by April 15 with a call for applications occurring a month prior to the deadline.

Important Notification:  To ensure the safety of all Cornell students traveling on university-related activities, students traveling internationally must enter their travel itinerary and contact information into Cornell’s International Travel Registry . In addition, those traveling to high-risk countries must get approval for such travel from the International Travel Advisory and Response team (ITART).

Financial Assistance to Full time PhD students of DAIICT for Participation in International Conference

Financial assistance to full time phd students for participation in international conference.

In order to create a vibrant research ambience, we would like to encourage the student to do good research work. Attending a reputed conference will lead to an increased awareness about the current research eco system in the Institute. The student will get an opportunity to attend tutorial sessions conducted by established international researchers. Apart from this, the student will have an opportunity to interact with other researchers across the globe in his/her area of research and hence a possibility to build a strong international connect.

Who is eligible?

Full time PhD student (Research Scholar) who has successfully completed his/her comprehensive examination and whose paper is submitted to the international conference prior to the defense date. The accepted full paper has to be in a reputed international conference/workshop/symposia in his/her research area and can be either poster or oral. Note that this is applicable only to the conference/workshop/symposia held outside India. The eligible student has to be the first author and the supervisor/s name/s is/are in the author list. A student may avail this benefit only once during his/her entire PhD studies. Student has to compulsorily attend the conference in order to avail the said benefit.

Extent of financial Assistance:

Maximum support up to INR  150000 OR Partial Support up to INR 75000.

The above amounts are to be utilized ONLY for the following: Air Travel, Registration Fees, Visa Fees, and DA (include: local travel, food, and stay). Maximum permissible DA corresponds to INR 5000/day that include the number of days of conference and one day each prefixed and suffixed to the conference.

Research Scholars are strongly encouraged to apply for financial assistance to external funding agencies. If they get the financial assistance from external funding agencies the same amount will be deducted from financial assistance granted by the Institute. The Institute may provide the advance to the student to tide over financial difficulties before the conference if a request comes from the Research Scholar through his/her Guide/s.

How the funding is decided?

A committee constituted by Director will meet regularly to deliberate and recommend to the Director on the applications received. The student may be called to attend the meeting if necessary. The final decision will be conveyed to the student within few days after the meeting.

How to use the Assistance?

The grant can be used ONLY for conference registration, visa, air-travel, hotel, food, local conference travel abroad etc. Students need to book a flight with lowest economy airfare and look for budget accommodation. Hence, it is advisable to plan the journey well in advance. Student may travel by any airline/airlines of their choice suitable to their itinerary.

If the Research Scholar is not able to attend the conference after obtaining advance, he / she should immediately refund the amount to the Institute with proper justification. Failing which, the amount will be deducted from his/her scholarships.

Guidelines for Submission if the student wish to apply for financial Assistance:

The student may look for the following

  • Does the conference have a good reputation? Best conferences are very selective with low acceptance ratio.
  • Which conference provide best opportunity to meet researchers that could be interested in his/her research area.
  • Does the proceedings are published by reputed publishers?
  • Ranking of the conference published by a reputed researcher/Institute
  • Reputation of the program committee members
  • Clearly stated peer review process etc.

How to apply:

Student has to send the application containing the following, through Guide/s to satyabir_singh[at]daiict[dot]ac[dot]in (secretary to Dean AP and Dean R&D) with a copy to dean_reaserach[at]daiict[dot]ac[dot]in in a zipped file.

  • Cover letter mentioning link to conference ranking if available (For Ex: https://dsl.cds.iisc.ac.in/publications/CS_ConfRank.htm ,  https://webdocs.cs.ualberta.ca/~zaiane/htmldocs/ConfRanking.html )
  • Acceptance notification along with the reviewers comments
  • Accepted full paper
  • Program committee members and their affiliation
  • Total Budget in orderly manner
  • Copies of applications sent to external funding agencies (For example, DST/CSIR/XRCI/Microsoft Research Grant/Ratan Tata Trust etc).
  • Any other authentic information regarding the reputation of the conference.

After returning from the conference, the student has to prepare a technical report including the details on: technical sessions attended, researchers he/she met and their areas of interest, possibilities of future technical collaboration with those researchers. The report has to be mailed to the committee members and the resource center within 2 weeks from the end date of conference. In addition, the student has to give a technical talk to the other student researchers at DAIICT that also covers his/her experience about the visit within one month after his return from the conference.

Settlement of the Financial Assistance:

Travel grants

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards travel grants of up to three months duration to MD and PhD students, as well as postdoctoral researchers from all over the world. The BIF supports them if they conduct experimental projects in basic biomedical research and want to pursue short-term research stays or attend practical courses relevant to their projects in Europe or overseas.

The programme also enables graduate students and their potential supervisors to evaluate the scientific and personal fit before starting a PhD project abroad.

GDM Travel Grant Program for ISU Graduate Students

GDM Logo

GDM is implementing a new travel grant program for ISU graduate students to be administered by the Iowa Soybean Research Center (ISRC) at Iowa State University. The funds provided by GDM will be used to cover students' travel expenses while also recognizing outstanding student research contributions and allows deserving students to showcase their work on a larger platform.

GDM will award four, $1,000 travel awards for students who plan to attend and present their research at one of the following two conferences in 2024. Two awards will be offered for each conference.

  • National Association of Plant Breeders in St. Louis  on July 21-25 (applications due 5/17/24)
  • Crop Science Society of America Annual Meeting in San Antonio  on November 10-13 (applications due 7/10/24)

Please submit your application, with abstract, by Friday, May 17th at 5pm CST  for the Plant Breeders Conference. Crop Science Society applications are due by Wednesday, July 10th at 5pm CST . Awardees will be selected by representatives from GDM Seeds and the Iowa Soybean Research Center at Iowa State University. Those selected will be notified by June 3 for the first conference and by July 19  for the second conference. For questions, contact the  Iowa Soybean Research Center .
