My Village Essay

Life in metropolitan cities can be exciting and very happening, but life in villages has an entirely different vibe with its countryside atmosphere. The simplicity, peace and purity of a village is wonderful and unbeatable. I come from a small Himalayan village, Lamahatta, popularly known for its beauty. The name of my village is Lamahatta. It is a small village present in the outskirts of North Bengal. I was born and brought up in Lamahatta. Lamahatta is well known for its lush pine forests, vast stretches of Darjeeling tea garden and the views of the snow-capped mountains. It is also a tourist destination. My village remains cool all through the year. The number of people residing in Lamahatta is not more than 1000. The villagers are very helpful. The majority of the women are tea-plantation workers whereas men work in construction. A pucca road runs through the entire village with small decorated houses on each side of the road. I love my village and its people.

I come from a village named Lamahatta. The village is located at a very high altitude nearly about 5000 feet above sea level. Lamahatta is a very small village of only 1000 residents. My village has become one of the tourist destinations because of its pleasant climate and natural beauty. Lamahatta has vast stretches of tea plantations and beautiful pine forests. These forests smell refreshing and sweet due to the presence of terpenes on them. My father used to take me to the village every year during my school holidays. I used to spend the entire holidays amidst the silence of the pine forests in a little concrete house with my mother, father and my brother.

The chirping of birds all throughout the day, and the light cool breeze used to amaze me and freshen up our minds. Here in my village, the houses are beautifully decorated with orchids and other flowers. Life in a village is very different from that in urban cities. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Lamahatta has always been peaceful. The people of my village are very helpful and lovable. In the evening, after the completion of work, every woman in the village meets in a small community hall where they have a small get-together. We celebrate each and every festival with great enthusiasm.

Everyone loves their native birthplace and so do I. I was born in a village named Lamahatta located at an altitude of 5000 feet near Darjeeling, the Queen of Hills in North Bengal. 'Lama' in Lamahatta stands for a Buddhist monk and 'Hatta’ means a hut. So basically Lamahatta means a monk's hermitage. Lamahatta is an offbeat location known for its lush green pine trees and large stretches of tea gardens with a beautiful view of the mountains. Due to this, my village has become a famous tourist destination mainly during the summers and the springs.

Life In A Village | Life in my village is quite different from that in urban cities. Here, it is slower and more peaceful. People live together and lead very simple lives. We mostly stay away from the continuous hustle and bustle of urban life. My village is greener and one can feel the freshness of the air.

About My Village

The people of my village are generally tribals belonging to the Sherpas, Tamangs, Bhutias and Dukpas . They work hard every day in order to make Lamahatta a clean, simple place and attractive place to live in. I belong to the Bhutia tribe. In my house, I have my parents and my small brother. My mother works as a tea plantation worker whereas my father works at a construction site. The occupations of the people in my village are plantation workers, homestay caretakers, dhaba managers and construction workers.

Places Of Attraction | My village people, along with the support of the government, have made this an eco-tourism place. Lamahatta contributes a good amount to North Bengal tourism. People from other countries often visit my village during the summer. Besides the natural beauty, the pleasant weather makes Lamahatt a dream place and an ideal place to live in. There are many exciting places for sightseeing here. We have the Lamahatta Eco Park , a roadside garden, monasteries among the woods, trekking facilities to Sacred Pond, the Gari Danda Fort and most importantly the huge tea plantations. My village serves as the connecting route between Darjeeling and Kalimpong . We also have ‘machan’, a wooden watchtower from where we can view the entire Lamahatta. The Eco park consists of about hundreds of colorful flags. My father says that the wind blowing through these flags is considered to purify the souls and minds of the people.

Christmas Celebration in Lamahatta

We celebrate all the festivals in my village but Christmas is specially celebrated with huge pomp and gaiety. Each house is decorated with lanterns and lights. All the kids have Christmas tree decoration competitions among themselves where the best tree decorator is awarded fancy gifts by the other villagers. On Christmas eve , all the villagers meet at a common place near Eco Park where we dance and dine together. I love my village because it is peaceful and serene. Lamahatta holds a number of my childhood memories. Living here makes me relive all those magical moments. It feels good to stay here. The natural beauty of my village always amazes me.

There is a small grocery shop where the basic necessities for sustenance are available. Besides the grocery shop, there is a tea stall with some snacks available. The tea stall is the prime meeting point for all the villagers during the evening time, even in other hours of the day the stall is never empty. It is always full of people sipping tea and chatting, breaking the world’s news to each other. There is a post office in my village.

My favorite spot is a small rivulet. I love going there and spending time because beyond the rivulet lay are acres of grasslands and hills. For an artist, it will be a perfect picture to paint. All, young and old swim and bathe in the rivulet. The main occupation of the villagers is farming. Whenever I come to my village, I feel immense pleasure because of its peaceful and serene environment. I get to enjoy some fresh and organic vegetables and fruits here. The people in my village are very helpful and they live in harmony with no grudges. They live like one big family who always takes care of each other. We can hardly find this act of compassion back in the city.

Since my childhood days, I used to fantasize about spending my life in our ancestral village. Staying in a village has never been an opportunity for me because I am born and brought up in the city. The story goes back to the partition of India when my great grandparents migrated from Bangladesh and settled in Murshidabad to protect their families. At that time they were extremely poor and had a humble income to spend their days. They were followed by many others.

The village is now much more developed than it was when first inhabited. When I visit the village with my parents, during the vacation, it gets quite enjoyable to meet them after a long time. The clean air and water are beautiful with pure fruits and vegetables to eat. The reads are of red soil and soft to walk over. The humble neighbour of that village is the main reason I love my village.

Some of our relatives still live in the village. Their primary profession is agriculture. During my visit, my cousins took me to show the agricultural fields. It was totally a mesmerizing experience. The entire horizon was green and such a peaceful life that I could never experience in the city.

Life in a village is much different from what we experience in the city. The urban lifestyle does not provide us with all views of the Earth. The world has much more greenery and beauty than it seems to us. The city definitely gives a modern life, better infrastructure, more communication, and quick connections. But it also takes away the natural goodness from us.

I find myself extremely lucky to think that I am from a village. I stay in a distant village in the suburbs of Darjeeling. The best part of living in a village is that I can stay far away from the daily crowd of the city. The city is too confusing and suffocating for me. I cannot bear staying there even for a week. There is no hospital except for a small emergency medical center. There are no ambulances either. So if someone falls sick the only way to take them to a hospital is by a personal car.

But every place has its pros and cons. Despite these disadvantages, I love my village and I would very much like to live here on a permanent basis one day.

The name of my village is Fatepur. It is situated in the district of Nadia, about 50 km away from Kolkata. There are about 1000 people live in my village. All the villagers are very cordial and supportive. Most of the villagers are farmers. They grow paddy, jute and vegetables.

There is a primary school , a health care center and a post office in my village. There is a large playground where we play in the afternoon. A pucca road runs through the middle of our village. We get all the necessary things from the village market. People living here are poor but they are very kind and honest. I love my village very much.

I live at Kusumpur, a small village in Burdwan district. The population of the village is around one thousand. Most of them are farmers, few are small traders. Our village has one primary school, a sub-post office and a primary health center.

Besides, there are a police outpost and a block office which serve greatly to the needs of the villagers. The village has a few kutcha roads, tanks and playgrounds. In our village, we all lead a happy social life with occasional pujas, jatras and melas.

I have not yet seen a village like my own. Kanthalpara where I live is a small village, calm and quiet, under the green boughs all around. It is far from the madding city. It is located Just on the border of Nadia in the north and 24 Parganas in the south. The Ganga which flows by gently is to the west of the village and Bangaon is to the east.

It is about 6 sq. km. in area and has a population of over five thousand. About sixty persons out of hundred are farmers and live on agriculture and cottage industry. The rest work in offices and factories. We have a good Health Centre. We are very fortunate that we don’t have to walk elsewhere beyond our village for a school to read in.

There are one High School and two Primary Schools in the village. We have a good supply of water from two big tanks and seven tubewells. The village has a daily market and also a police camp. Traders from different corners crowd here to collect agricultural products. So our village has become a trading center.

We have a Branch of State Bank. There is also a post office in the locality. It has a famous background for Bankim Chandra Chatterjee as he was born here. Our Public Library has been named after the great author. National Highway 34 runs through our village. Kanthalpara is connected with Kolkata by land and water. There’s so much simplicity and peace in my village. In all respects, this is an ideal village.

Introduction

Palampur is a famous name. Precisely, it is situated near Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Trees naturally surround the green village of Palampur. It is the leafy suburb of Gujarat. Approximately, only a thousand people get their refuge from this region. I am privileged to form an extended member of this great family living in Palampur village. Two rivers surround the village making it look an island. It is the home of wild birds which seek refuge on trees surrounding the village. Despite having mixed religion, the presence of prominent temples and a mosque implies the two primary religion in the village. Being an Island village, there is a well-established market center where the residents buy and sell goods. The modern schools and advanced health care center in Palampur village makes it the most developed village in Gujarat. There are few people performing farming and animal husbandry for survival. However, the majority are professionals with distinct qualifications in various careers. Both Christians and Muslims celebrate all festivals together. The residence, live a simple life with brotherhood. The little resources are equitably distributed without tribalism based on religious affiliations. Peaceful coexistence is the necessary foundation and the cornerstone of survival in the village. Everyone is a brother and a sister.

Means of transport in my village

The famous river Gujarat traverse the entire village from east to west. The river provides every household with small canals. Road transport is limited to the summer session when the region is dry. Village-boats have often used transportation services. Despite the existence of many good roads, however, they remain underwater since the village experience frequent rainfall. Goods and animals are also ferried in engine boats.

Inhabitants

Approximately, my village has a population of one thousand people. Children and youths form the greater part of this population. Palampur village being a good business hub and an Island, people from different communities live in the region. There is a limited ancestral relationship, but love and peace are the primary uniting factor in the village. Though the majority of the population are Christians, the Muslims community is equitably distributed around the village. Initially, the eastern part of the village was preoccupied with the Muslims brothers while Christians exclusively cover the lower eastern and entire western region. Crop cultivation is the typical livelihood activities for the semi-skilled people. However, the majority of Muslims earn their daily bread through service delivery. The village is enlightened with formal education. The majority of the adult drive high-end cars and hold high office position. Nearly every one-kilometer walk, there is either a professor, lawyer or senior merchants. Such professionals live in good apartments with proper lightening connection thus making the village to have an outlook of a small town in the bush.

Schools and library

Households compete based on educational achievement. There are many good schools and library in the village. Acquiring basic education is simple and easy for every household. The schools are built equitably across the entire village. There are primary schools for boys and girls. The public libraries are also distributed equitably in the region. The libraries are stocked with reading materials and computers for conducting research. Moreover, training institution is also built to enable the society acquires skills in different careers.

The climatic condition of my village

The tropical climate in my village provides a historical feel. Pure and fresh blowing air, especially in the afternoon, add life to the residents. The calm feeling with melodious sound of birds at dawn always reminds the inhabitants of a new day. The floods on the main roads sweep away all the accumulated impurities in the region. The evergreen appearance of the village draws birds and other animals to seek refuge in the village. In conclusion, my Palampur village is indeed a good village.

Where Homeschoolers Meet to Play, Socialize and Learn

At My Village, we believe that all people are created with unique interests, skills and talents. Our goal is to provide a wholesome learning environment with opportunities to explore the world (those interests, skills and talents) and acquire knowledge without the pressure of standardized tests and competition. We believe parents are the best teachers of their children since they are most invested in their child’s future. Our purpose is to provide learning opportunities that parents may not be able to provide at home due to space, materials, resources, or abilities.

We offer a variety of classes from a religiously neutral perspective with the exception of Wednesdays, which is the day that we have reserved to include Christian-based classes. Creation is taught, however church doctrine is not included. Our number one rule at My Village is to be respectful and that includes religious beliefs.

Please note that classes are subject to change.

Attendance Recommendations for all age groups

We highly recommend and encourage a minimum of 2 days per week regardless of which classroom your child is enrolled in. Most families choose either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Primary A is only available on Monday and Wednesday and the Teen class is only available on Tuesday and Thursday.

Sports: We alternate a variety of sports such as soccer, basketball, hula-hooping, and jump rope to name a few.

Group Games: Students spend time socializing and playing board games or outside (weather permitting).

Music Appreciation: In this class, students will play instruments, sing, learn folk dancing and study different genres of music and musicians. They will perform at the Holiday and end of year assembly.

Art Techniques: In this class, students will learn different types of visual art techniques such as drawing and sketching, painting, pastels, mixed media, sculpture/modeling, mixed media, and weaving/sewing. We will review the elements of art and principles of design. They will use this knowledge to demonstrate art techniques while creating artworks that represent their unique vision as well as creating artwork inspired by cultures around the world. Supplies to purchase for this class: Mixed Media 9 X 12 Sketchbook . If your child is also in the Art-Studying the Masters class, they only need one of these books.

World History: Story of the World, Volume 2, Middle Ages from the Fall of Rome to the end of the Renaissance.

Elementary Science: Various fields of study (unit studies) except for Human Anatomy which is taught on Thursday.

**Sports OR Writing: For our older Primary C students, we are offering to allow them to join the Tweens for their Writing Class which is using the homeschool curriculum called IEW. Please contact us if you think your child is ready for this class.

Music Theory: Students will learn music theory appropriate to their age and skill level including pitch, sacle, melody, rhythm and chords. Instruments include boom whackers, xlyophones, recorders, hand bells, hand drums and using their singing voice. Music class students will perform at our Christmas and End-of-year Assemblies.

Spanish: Beginning Spanish to include, but not limited to, the alphabet, numbers, colors, verbs and introductions

US History: The history of our 50 states. We will learn the history of each state within our country. How each state has its own unique beginning and history - from the original 13 colonies to present day.

Engineering: Students have a building assignment that includes may include the use of Legos or other items like recyclables.

Drama: In this class, students will learn about puppets, acting, and confidence. This class will prepare students for public speaking and give them the confidence to get up in front of an audience. They will play games, create puppet shows and act out short skits.

Animal and Nature Studies: In this class, students will learn about Zoology, which is the study of animals of all shapes and sizes, from tiny insects to large mammals. Zoologists investigate what animals eat and how they live, and how animals interact with their habitats. Students will also explore topics such as conservation, interdependence and biodiversity.

Geography: S tudy of the Earth’s physical features and environment including the impact of human activity on these factors and vice versa.

Bible:

Art-Studying the Masters: In this class, students will study the lives of artists such as Calder, Cassatt, Degas, Davinci, O’Keefe, Renoir, Rembrandt, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh as well as moder artists. After learning about the lives and famous works of these artists, the students will be introduced to the techniques which made the art revolutionary. They will practice these techniques with pencil and paper which will reinforce the material previously presented, and further prepare them for success in the final step—the art project. The students will be working with many mediums and techniques such as painting- (watercolor, tempera, acrylics) pastels-(oil, chalk) sculpture and modeling-(clay, paper, found objects) and more. Supplies to purchase for this class: Mixed Media 9 X 12 Sketchbook . If your child is also in the Art-Techniques class, they only need one of these book.

Cultutral Studies:

Human Anatomy: Study of 10 of the human body’s systems and their functions. The importance and roles of each organ and how they work together.

Tweens: 5th and 6th Grade

(Ages 10-11)

Required for the IEW Writing Class. Book to purchase: IEW Student Book (wait for more information before purchasing)

Curriculum/Descriptions

Group Games: Students spend time socializing and playing board games or playing group games outside (weather permitting).

History: Story of the World, Volume 2 The Middle Ages from the Falll of Rome to the Rise of the Renaissance.

Upper Elementary Science: Various Fields of Study except for Human Anatomy which is on Thursdays.

Writing: IEW

Students will need the Student Book, which we will purchase for you and send you a invoice.

Public Speaking: In this class, students will learn presentation skills, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and listening skills, that will enable them to present ideas with clarity and conviction. This class is extremely helpful in building confidence and promoting personal development.

Geography: Study of the Earth’s physical features and environment including the impact of human activity on these factors and vice versa.

Unit Studies: Gather 'Around curriculum (Christian-based) covers multiple subjects by unit.

Bible: Students will study many topics such as the fruit of the Spirit, Christian heroes and role models and the unconditional nature of God’s love. There will be object lessons, group discussions, skits, crafts, and memory verses.

Interpersonal Communications (first nIne weeks only, then switches to Sports): This class includes problem solving skills, learning to identify our own feelings and how to recognize when friends support emotional support. Each class will have an activity to reinforce the skill being taught.

Human Anatomy: Good and the Beautiful, Health and the Physical Body and Health and the Human Mind

Drama: In this class, students will learn how to read, write, and act out a play. They will analyze the parts of a script, such as acts/scenes, characters, narration, setting, dialogue, and stage directions. They will play games, use puppets, and perform their skits and plays at the Holiday and end of year assembly.

Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!
