Writing The Perfect Resume

If you’re looking for a new role as a regional manager, it’s crucial to have a well-written and professionally designed resume that showcases your skills, experience, and achievements in the best light. Here are some tips on how to do it.

A. Formatting and Structure

There are three main types of resumes: chronological, functional, and combination. As a regional manager, a chronological resume is likely your best bet. However, it’s essential to choose the right format based on your experience and the job requirements.

Chronological Resume:  This format emphasizes your work experience by listing it in chronological order, starting with your most recent job. It works well for those with a consistent work history in the same field.

Functional Resume:  This format focuses on your skills, achievements, and qualifications rather than your work history. It’s useful for those with limited job experience, looking to make a career change, or with gaps in their employment.

Combination Resume:  This format combines the best of both worlds. It details your work history chronologically while highlighting your skills, achievements, and qualifications.

B. Resume Sections

Your regional manager resume should have the following sections:

Header:  Your name, contact information, and professional title should be listed at the top of the page.

Summary/Objective:  This section should be a brief overview of your experience, skills, and what you hope to bring to the position.

Professional Experience:  This section details your work history in reverse chronological order. It should include the name of the company, job title, dates of employment, and bullet points that highlight your responsibilities and accomplishments.

Education:  This section should list your education history, including degrees and relevant certifications.

Skills:  This section highlights your technical and soft skills relevant to the position.

Professional Certifications:  Any relevant certifications should be listed here.

Volunteer Work:  This section is optional but can help showcase your community involvement and relevant skills.

C. Writing Tips

To make your regional manager resume stand out, follow these writing tips:

Quantify your achievements:  Use numbers and data to demonstrate your impact on previous companies. For example, “Increased sales by 20% in Q4 2020.”

Tailor your resume:  Customize your resume for the specific job you’re applying for by using keywords and phrases from the job listing.

Use action verbs:  Start bullet points with action verbs like “Managed,” “Led,” or “Developed” to showcase your accomplishments.

Avoid grammatical mistakes:  Proofread your resume and use grammar-checking tools to ensure it’s error-free.

By following these tips, you can write an outstanding regional manager resume that catches the attention of potential employers and highlights your skills and experience.

Creating a cohesive and effective regional manager resume involves several key elements. The first step is to ensure that the resume is tailored to the specific job posting and company culture. This means studying the job description and researching the company’s values and mission statement.

The next step is to create a summary statement that highlights the candidate’s key qualities and qualifications. This statement should be concise and impactful, focusing on the candidate’s leadership abilities and industry expertise.

Writing a Cover Letter

Writing a well-crafted cover letter is an essential part of the job application process. Your cover letter is your opportunity to showcase your skills and qualifications, demonstrate your enthusiasm for the job, and convince the hiring manager that you are the right person for the role. In this section, we’ll go over the purpose of a cover letter, how to tailor it to the job you’re applying for, formatting guidelines, and an example cover letter.

A. Purpose of a Cover Letter

The purpose of a cover letter is to introduce yourself to the hiring manager and explain why you are the best candidate for the position. It should complement your resume and provide more detail on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Your cover letter should demonstrate your enthusiasm and passion for the job, highlighting what you can bring to the company and how you can add value to their team.

B. Tailoring your Cover Letter

When applying for a job, it’s essential to tailor your cover letter to the specific job description and company you’re applying to. It’s important to research the company and understand their values, culture, and mission. This will help you to align your skills and experience with the company’s needs and demonstrate how you can contribute to their goals. Make sure to highlight your relevant experience and achievements, and explain how they relate to the role you’re applying for.

C. Formatting Guidelines

Your cover letter should be well-formatted and easy to read. Use a professional font, such as Times New Roman or Arial, and keep the font size to 10 or 12 points. Your cover letter should be approximately one page long, and organized into clear sections, including an introduction, qualifications, and conclusion. Use bullet points to highlight your achievements and make it easy for the hiring manager to read. Don’t forget to proofread your cover letter carefully for spelling and grammar errors.

Common Mistakes to Avoid While Writing a Regional Manager Resume

As an experienced regional manager, you know the importance of presenting your skills and experience in the best possible light. However, there are a few common mistakes that can detract from the effectiveness of your resume. Here are four things to avoid:

A. Lengthy Resumes

It can be tempting to include every detail of your professional history, but a lengthy resume is often less effective than a shorter, more focused one. Keep your resume to one or two pages, and be sure to prioritize the most important information.

B. Objective Statements

While objective statements were once a popular feature of resumes, they are no longer necessary or recommended. Instead, focus on creating a clear and compelling summary that highlights your experience and skills.

C. Vague Language

Your resume should be specific and tailored to your particular skills and experience. Avoid using general or vague language that could apply to anyone in your field. Instead, use concrete examples to showcase your accomplishments and skills.

D. Not including achievements or metrics

One of the most important things you can do to improve the effectiveness of your resume is to highlight concrete achievements and metrics. This can help demonstrate the impact you have had in previous roles, and help potential employers understand the value you can bring to their organization. Be sure to include specific, measurable accomplishments wherever possible.

By avoiding these common mistakes, you can help ensure that your regional manager resume showcases your skills and experience in the most effective way possible. Remember, your resume is often your first chance to make a positive impression on your potential future employer, so take the time to make it count.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are some of the most common questions asked about the creation of a regional manager resume:

A. How long should a regional manager resume be?

The ideal length for a regional manager resume is one to two pages. While some may argue that longer resumes with extensive work experience and qualifications are better, concise and targeted resumes tend to be more effective. Recruiting managers typically only spend about 6 seconds scanning a resume, so it’s important to make sure your most relevant experience and qualifications are front and center.

B. What is the ideal resume format for a regional manager?

There is no single “ideal” resume format that fits every regional manager role. However, the most commonly used format is the chronological resume, which lists your work experience in reverse chronological order, beginning with your most recent position. This format highlights your career progression and growth over time, which is important to recruiters looking for experienced candidates for leadership roles.

C. Do I need to include a summary statement in my resume?

Yes, it is highly recommended that you include a summary statement in your regional manager resume. A well-written summary statement can capture the recruiter’s attention and provide a concise overview of your key qualifications and experience. This statement should be tailored to the specific job description and highlight your relevant skills and experience related to the role.

3. Next, create a regional manager skills section on your resume

Your resume's skills section should include the most important keywords from the job description, as long as you actually have those skills. If you haven't started your job search yet, you can look over resumes to get an idea of what skills are the most important.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when writing your resume's skills section:

  • Include 6-12 skills, in bullet point form
  • List mostly hard skills ; soft skills are hard to test
  • Emphasize the skills that are most important for the job

Hard skills are generally more important to hiring managers because they relate to on-the-job knowledge and specific experience with a certain technology or process.

Soft skills are also valuable, as they're highly transferable and make you a great person to work alongside, but they're impossible to prove on a resume.

Example of skills to include on an regional manager resume

Customer service is the process of offering assistance to all the current and potential customers -- answering questions, fixing problems, and providing excellent service. The main goal of customer service is to build a strong relationship with the customers so that they keep coming back for more business.

Having oversight of someone means to monitor a process or a situation. If someone has oversight of something, they are responsible for the completion of the project. Oversight is usually given to experts as they monitor their juniors or newbies as they go through a project.

The process of strengthening the relationship between a company and client is called account management. Effective account management has two key objectives, one is to retain loyal customers and the second one is to help the company grow by creating connections with new customers.

Business development is the ideas or initiatives that work to make business work better. Selling, advertising, product development, supply chain management, and vendor management are only a few of the divisions involved with it. There is still a lot of networking, negotiating, forming alliances, and trying to save money. The goals set for business development guide and coordinate with all of these various operations and sectors.

The marketing and selling of products and services in a specified region are termed regional sales. Companies and retailers specify a certain quota of their products or services to be delivered in each region depending upon the population and community preferences in that area. The regional sales in a designated area are administered by a regional sales manager.

Product line is a collection of similar or related products that may be under a single brand manufactured by the same company. It may include different varieties of a specific product of a brand which comes in different categories. In other cases, the product line may differ in some characteristics despite being from the same manufacturer.

Human resources is a set of people in a business or a corporation that are designated to locate, interview, and recruit new employees into the company. 4. List your regional manager experience

The most important part of any resume for a regional manager is the experience section. Recruiters and hiring managers expect to see your experience listed in reverse chronological order, meaning that you should begin with your most recent experience and then work backwards.

Don't just list your job duties below each job entry. Instead, make sure most of your bullet points discuss impressive achievements from your past positions. Whenever you can, use numbers to contextualize your accomplishments for the hiring manager reading your resume.

It's okay if you can't include exact percentages or dollar figures. There's a big difference even between saying "Managed a team of regional managers" and "Managed a team of 6 regional managers over a 9-month project. "

Most importantly, make sure that the experience you include is relevant to the job you're applying for. Use the job description to ensure that each bullet point on your resume is appropriate and helpful.

Regional Manager Resume Sample and Template

Tips for writing your resume

To land the perfect job, you need the perfect resume. In today’s crowded job market, it is more important than ever to stand out among the competition. When you write your resume, it is vital that you get everything right, from the organization of the template to the details of your work experience. To make sure your resume is flawless, here are some tips for writing the best resume possible.

Let them know where to contact you

Your resume should begin with your contact information. It is very important that potential employers, having read your resume, know how to contact you! At the top of your resume, include your name, phone number, email address, and city.

Introduce yourself

A personal summary, though optional, is a great way to introduce yourself to an employer with your resume. This section is comprised of one or two paragraphs where you can feature your notable accomplishments and highlight your most valuable skills. Your summary should give employers a brief outline of your experience and capabilities and intrigue them to keep reading.

What do you do best?

Shorter than a work history section, in a skills section you can efficiently list your core competencies in a way that is direct and easy to read. Showcase the skills and abilities that you bring to the job, focussing on those which distinguish you from the competition. The more useful and unique your skills are, the more you will stand out to an employer.

Showcase your achievements

Display your work experience in reverse-chronological order, beginning with your most recent position at the top of the section. Describe for each job your title, responsibilities, and accomplishments, with a focus on performance and results rather than duties. Use action words like ‘developed, ‘produced’, and ‘delivered’ when describing your work history to create compelling and impactful descriptions of your experience. Highlighting quantifiable information, like performance metrics and revenue, is a great way to demonstrate your abilities.

What did you learn, and where did you learn it?

Your education section should include the name of any post-secondary schools you attended, the degrees you earned, and any academic distinctions you achieved that you deem worth featuring. If they are particularly relevant, you can also include major areas of study and important projects that you participated in. Like the work experience section, your education should be displayed in reverse-chronological order.

Recruiter Insight: Why this resume works in 2022

Tips to help you write your regional sales manager resume in 2024,    emphasize your sales leadership.

For a Regional Sales Manager role, you need to showcase your ability to lead and develop sales teams. On your resume, highlight instances where you've coached, trained, and managed a team, and mention any improvements in sales performance that resulted from your leadership.

   Quantify your sales achievements

Numbers speak volumes when it comes to sales, so be specific about your accomplishments. Include metrics like percentage increase in sales, number of new accounts acquired, and revenue generated under your management. Demonstrating a track record of success is critical in securing a Regional Sales Manager position.

Quantify your sales achievements - Regional Sales Manager Resume

Regional sales managers should aim to indicate their proficiency with sales management at both the lower and upper levels to show they have both the fundamental skills and greater vision needed for a sales position with more responsibility. This resume does that with its heavy use of quantifiable data points and by showing progressive growth along the sales management career path.

Regional sales managers should include numerical data points to highlight their accomplishments whenever possible, as well as indicating progressive growth in their responsibilities.

Usage of numerical data points, using metrics relevant to sales

At the higher levels in particular, businesses are interested in knowing how particular employees within their company will affect their bottom line. When this applicant notes how they increased sales by 30 percent, helped the company go from 100 to 500 installations in a year, and managed a $20 million territory, it spells out in clear terms how much they will be able to help the business that hires them. You can accomplish this effect by including numerical data points with every bullet point on your resume.

Shows progressive growth within a company

For a sales manager to make it to the regional level, it would make sense for them to have taken steps along the sales manager ladder to get there. This resume shows that the applicant began with basic accomplishments (such as upselling products as a sales associate) and progressively grew into positions that have greater responsibilities (up to overseeing four branches at the national level) at the company. By including the promotions that you’ve had within a company, you can show to hiring managers that you have successfully demonstrated your competency to your superiors on a consistent basis. Beyond individual companies, hiring managers like to see that you’re moving upward in your career trajectory, so be sure to indicate that when you can.

  • Regional Sales Manager Resume Tips

As a hiring manager who has recruited for regional sales manager roles at companies like Salesforce, Oracle, and Microsoft, I've seen thousands of resumes. The best resumes that lead to interviews and job offers have several things in common. In this article, we'll cover what those are with examples, so you can incorporate them into your own resume.

Highlight your sales performance with metrics

The most important thing hiring managers look for in a regional sales manager resume is your track record of sales performance. Show this by including specific metrics and numbers:

  • Achieved 150% of sales quota in 2022, generating $5M in revenue
  • Increased sales by 30% year-over-year in the Northeast region
  • Consistently ranked as a top 5 sales performer out of 50 reps

In contrast, weak resumes lack numbers or use vague statements:

  • Responsible for selling software products
  • Met and exceeded sales targets

   Show progression and leadership

Companies want to see that you've progressed in your career and have taken on increasing levels of responsibility. Highlight this in your resume:

  • Promoted to Regional Sales Manager within 2 years
  • Managed a team of 10 sales reps across 5 states
  • Mentored and coached junior sales reps, resulting in 25% higher quota attainment

Weak resumes lack details around career growth or leadership:

  • Worked as a sales rep for 5 years
  • Sales manager experience

Tailor your resume to the job

Customize your resume for each job you apply to. Study the job description and include relevant keywords. For example, if the job emphasizes experience with CRM software, highlight this in your resume:

  • Expertise in Salesforce CRM for sales forecasting, pipeline management, and reporting
  • Trained team of 15 reps on Salesforce best practices

Generic resumes that aren't tailored to the role are less effective:

  • Used CRM software
  • Familiar with sales tools

Include key sales skills and qualifications

Showcase the skills that are most important for a regional sales manager:

  • Sales forecasting and planning
  • Pipeline management
  • Territory management
  • Team leadership
  • Negotiation
  • Presentation and demo skills

Provide examples of how you've demonstrated these skills to strengthen your resume:

Skilled in delivering engaging presentations and software demos, resulting in a 50% higher close rate compared to the team average.

   Quantify your team's performance

As a sales manager, the performance of your team is a reflection of your leadership abilities. Include metrics on how your team performed under your management:

  • Led a team of 8 reps to achieve 125% of quota, generating $10M in revenue
  • Coached team to increase sales productivity by 30%
  • Reduced sales cycle time by 20% through training and process improvements

Resumes that lack details on team performance are less impressive:

  • Managed a sales team
  • Responsible for a team of sales reps

   Emphasize cross-functional collaboration

Regional sales managers need to collaborate with other teams like marketing, product, and customer success. Show how you've partnered with other functions to drive results:

  • Collaborated with marketing to create new sales collateral, resulting in 30% more qualified leads
  • Partnered with product team to provide customer feedback, influencing the product roadmap
  • Worked with customer success to reduce churn by 15%

Resumes that only focus on individual contribution miss the opportunity to demonstrate collaboration skills:

  • Worked with other teams
  • Cross-functional experience

There are dozens of certifications that you can claim as a Regional Sales Manager. But, some are more effective than others. That’s why you mustn’t include every certificate other applicants might have. Try instead to earn and list a few of the difficult ones.

When it comes to formatting your Regional Sales Manager resume, there are certain things you need to keep in mind. These include your level of expertise, your total years of experience, and the position and company you’re applying for, to name a few.

You can choose between three basic resume formats :

  • Reverse-chronological resume format ;
  • Functional skills-based resume format ;
  • Combination (or Hybrid) resume format .

The reverse-chronological format is just that – all your experience listed in a reverse-chronological way. It’s great for experienced professionals who have been in the industry for many years and have no career gaps.

The functional skills-based resume, on the other hand, focuses on skills, education, and personality traits, rather than experience. This makes it great for graduates, people with less experience, or bigger career gaps. The idea is to show you’re the perfect match without putting too much emphasis on your lack of relevant experience.

If none of these sound suitable, go for a hybrid (or combination) resume. It’s a mix of experience, skills, and personality traits. It’s also considered modern and innovative because of its non-traditional structure and sections. Here, you can add details about what your typical day looks like or what your life philosophy is. In short, the hybrid resume format shows who you are, both as a professional and as an individual.

hybrid (combination) resume format built on Enhancv platform

More tips on perfecting your resume style and layout :

  • Choose a traditional 12p font ;
  • Make sure your resume margins are no bigger than an inch;
  • Go for a one-page template . If you have broad experience and can’t fit your resume on one page, choose a two-page resume template
  • Save your resume as PDF to avoid formatting issues and unauthorized editing.

If you feel that you don’t have high chances in a particular company, due to lack of relevant experience, then you can still consider using a creative layout. That might help you get noticed and invited for an interview, as most of the other applicants will have boring resume designs.

If the industry, company, and position you’re applying for allow for that, you could include other sections in your Regional Sales Manager resume. By doing this, you’ll show the recruiter that you’re a real human and not a robot.

Here are some ideas:

  • Hobbies and interests
  • Publications
  • Language skills
  • Volunteer work

Several years ago, everyone preferred keeping a safe distance from creative resumes. Today, adding creativity to your CV is considered cool, innovative, and one of the best ways to stand out.

You can add a creative section that describes your typical day or even go for a colorful creative template. No matter what you choose, make sure to keep the position, company, and industry in mind. Otherwise, you risk looking silly.

What Matters Most: Your Regional Marketing Manager Skills & Work Experience

Your resume skills and work experience

Most companies are deploying a wide range of marketing strategies in 2024. Therefore, regional managers will need to be well-versed in several concepts.

You know you have the right skills, but the struggle can be narrowing it down to 6 to 10 primary abilities for your resume. Try to use a mix of top marketing manager skills and what the company emphasizes in the job description . For instance, focusing on cold email and lead nurturing would be ideal for a company looking to improve its lead gen efforts.

Here are some of the best regional marketing manager resume skills in today’s job market.

9 best regional marketing manager skills

  • Product Placement
  • Market Research
  • Email Newsletters
  • Cold Calling
  • Lead Generation
  • Event Marketing
  • Google Analytics

Sample regional marketing manager work experience bullet points

Your ability to conduct effective market research is great. However, you know that successful marketers also use that data to create high-converting promotional strategies.

Your work experience examples should use numerical examples to show how your strategies have succeeded. Think about leads generated, conversion rates, or consumer awareness metrics.

Hiring managers want to be able to quickly scan these examples to identify your core abilities, so keeping them to one sentence each is a good idea. Therefore, you don’t need to write everything you know about event marketing. Simply saying you generated 587 leads at events shows your abilities.

Here are a few samples:

  • Used FindThatLead to compile a list of 3,500 cold leads and led a 14-person sales team in a cold-calling campaign to convert 37% of them into paying customers.
  • Analyzed consumer data in Salesforce to identify 3 errors in the lead nurturing process, improving conversion rates by 52%.
  • Created a weekly email newsletter for regional customers to generate 64% more recurring purchases.
  • Held a booth at 45 regional events yearly with well-designed displays and promotional materials to generate 71% more leads.

Top 5 Tips for Your Regional Marketing Manager Resume

  • Any company looking for help with marketing will be interested in the results from campaigns you’ve run. Therefore, listing a measurable impact in each example, such as how you boosted click-through rates or social reach, will be essential.
  • Most management applicants have a long list of qualifications. However, narrow in on the most relevant needs of the position for a highly-specific one-page resume . For instance, you could focus on promotional design and scripting for events if managing regional events will be one of your primary responsibilities.
  • Strategies and technology in the marketing field are always changing. New social trends gain popularity, and the software used gets updated. Listing your most recent experiences will help hiring managers see how you handle current software like Salesforce and trends like creating promotional reels on Instagram.
  • Many applicants for regional management positions will have years of experience. A brief summary of how you’re a promotional expert with 14 years of experience running email marketing campaigns to generate $1.5 million in sales can help your primary abilities stand out.
  • Just like you wouldn’t want to send out a promotional email with the wrong date listed for an upcoming sale, you don’t want your resume to be inaccurate or full of grammatical errors. Always proofread before submitting it.

Try to think of examples you can list that show a high level of skill or your ability to lead. For instance, leading a 15-person team on a spring fashion campaign to generate $560,000 in revenue would help you stand out as a management candidate.

Aim to fill in gaps in your resume or get more personal. You could write about how you use market research to formulate effective strategies or why you want to help a company promote its brand’s message.

Hiring managers will be the most concerned about your work experience, but your education in marketing or other business fields still matters. Any relevant education can help your abilities to create effective promotional strategies stand out.
