It also helps you identify what makes your business different from others in its industry.

2. Products & Services Offered by Your Water Purification Business.

The next step is to outline your products and services for your water purification business.

When you think about the products and services that you offer, it's helpful to ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is my business?
  • What are the products and/or services that I offer?
  • Why am I offering these particular products and/or services?
  • How do I differentiate myself from competitors with similar offerings?
  • How will I market my products and services?

You may want to do a comparison of your business plan against those of other competitors in the area, or even with online reviews. This way, you can find out what people like about them and what they don’t like, so that you can either improve upon their offerings or avoid doing so altogether.

4. Write Your Operational Plan.

Next, you'll need to build your operational plan. This section describes the type of business you'll be running, and includes the steps involved in your operations.

In it, you should list:

  • The equipment and facilities needed
  • Who will be involved in the business (employees, contractors)
  • Financial requirements for each step
  • Milestones & KPIs
  • Location of your business
  • Zoning & permits required for the business

What equipment, supplies, or permits are needed to run a water purification business?

To run a water purification business, you'll need a range of equipment and supplies, as well as a few permits. Here's a quick rundown of what you'll need:

  • A physical location for your business, such as a standalone office or a space within an existing building
  • Equipment for purifying water, such as water filtration systems and reverse osmosis units
  • A supply of water, either from a municipal source or a private well, to be purified
  • Chemicals and other materials for treating the water and removing impurities
  • Depending on your location and the services you offer, you may need to obtain a business license and other permits, such as a permit to operate a water purification business or a permit to use certain chemicals.

Overall, running a water purification business requires a mix of equipment, supplies, and permits to ensure that you can provide high-quality, purified water to your customers.

5. Management & Organization of Your Water Purification Business.

The second part of your water purification business plan is to develop a management and organization section.

This section will cover all of the following:

  • How many employees you need in order to run your water purification business. This should include the roles they will play (for example, one person may be responsible for managing administrative duties while another might be in charge of customer service).
  • The structure of your management team. The higher-ups like yourself should be able to delegate tasks through lower-level managers who are directly responsible for their given department (inventory and sales, etc.).
  • How you’re going to make sure that everyone on board is doing their job well. You’ll want check-ins with employees regularly so they have time to ask questions or voice concerns if needed; this also gives you time to offer support where necessary while staying informed on how things are going within individual departments too!

6. Water Purification Business Startup Expenses & Captial Needed.

This section should be broken down by month and year. If you are still in the planning stage of your business, it may be helpful to estimate how much money will be needed each month until you reach profitability.

Typically, expenses for your business can be broken into a few basic categories:

Startup Costs

Startup costs are typically the first expenses you will incur when beginning an enterprise. These include legal fees, accounting expenses, and other costs associated with getting your business off the ground. The amount of money needed to start a water purification business varies based on many different variables, but below are a few different types of startup costs for a water purification business.

Running & Operating Costs

Running costs refer to ongoing expenses related directly with operating your business over time like electricity bills or salaries paid out each month. These types of expenses will vary greatly depending on multiple variables such as location, team size, utility costs, etc.

Marketing & Sales Expenses

You should include any costs associated with marketing and sales, such as advertising and promotions, website design or maintenance. Also, consider any additional expenses that may be incurred if you decide to launch a new product or service line. For example, if your water purification business has an existing website that needs an upgrade in order to sell more products or services, then this should be listed here.

7. Financial Plan & Projections

A financial plan is an important part of any business plan, as it outlines how the business will generate revenue and profit, and how it will use that profit to grow and sustain itself. To devise a financial plan for your water purification business, you will need to consider a number of factors, including your start-up costs, operating costs, projected revenue, and expenses.

Here are some steps you can follow to devise a financial plan for your water purification business plan:

  • Determine your start-up costs: This will include the cost of purchasing or leasing the space where you will operate your business, as well as the cost of buying or leasing any equipment or supplies that you need to start the business.
  • Estimate your operating costs: Operating costs will include utilities, such as electricity, gas, and water, as well as labor costs for employees, if any, and the cost of purchasing any materials or supplies that you will need to run your business.
  • Project your revenue: To project your revenue, you will need to consider the number of customers you expect to have and the average amount they will spend on each visit. You can use this information to estimate how much money you will make from selling your products or services.
  • Estimate your expenses: In addition to your operating costs, you will need to consider other expenses, such as insurance, marketing, and maintenance. You will also need to set aside money for taxes and other fees.
  • Create a budget: Once you have estimated your start-up costs, operating costs, revenue, and expenses, you can use this information to create a budget for your business. This will help you to see how much money you will need to start the business, and how much profit you can expect to make.
  • Develop a plan for using your profit: Finally, you will need to decide how you will use your profit to grow and sustain your business. This might include investing in new equipment, expanding the business, or saving for a rainy day.

Methods: The current study recruited 220 patients with primary BC admitted to the oncology clinic of the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. We evaluated Ki-67 IHC slides and reported the Ki-67 status and its relationship with other prognostic factors in breast cancer patients. Among 220 patients, 63.3% developed grade 2 tumors, and 63.8% were younger than 50-year-olds. 117 cases (53%) were Ki-67 positive with more than 1% tumor nuclei stained, and 53 cases (24%) had tumors with more than 15% of Ki-67 expression. The study revealed that the girls were predisposed to intense and varied menstrual-related challenges, which affected quality education as they had difficulty concentrating in class coupled with social and emotional problems. The Guidance and Counseling Units in schools’ continuous organization of programs to sensitize and enlighten girls on how to manage menstrual-related challenges would help to avoid the shackles the monthly experience brings.

The transmission system associated with the Itaipu 14000 MW power plant comprises two parallel sets of transmission lines that are not connected at the generating station due to the frequency difference. The Brazilian transmission system is owned and operated by Eletrobras-Furnas, a large federal power utility. The scheme, designed in the 1970s, includes many features new at the time and continues to be a very significant part of the Brazilian energy supply. This paper describes the performance of the overhead power lines of the Itaipu transmission system during a recent period of fifteen years of operation. The two sets of transmission lines discussed are one of three 765 kV AC at 60 Hz and the other of two ± 600 kV DC. While mainly analysing data from the overhead transmission lines, some operating features, present use, and significant experiences are also discussed.

There are multiple reasons why water purification businesses are the need of the hour and why you must start one.

As per Fortune Business Insights , the global water purifier market is set to grow from $30.62 billion in 2022 to $50.66 billion by 2029. So it’s a growing market, and you can ride the wave by starting your own business.

Roles and Responsibilities of Water Purification Business Owner

As a water purification business owner, here are your roles and responsibilities:

  • Your top priority is recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, and counseling managers. Communicate values, assign roles, develop strategies and define primary objectives, monitor results, and create incentives.
  • You’re also responsible for fixing your pricing strategy and signing business deals.
  • Your employees will look up to you for providing direction to your water purification business.
  • You also need to create, communicate, and implement the mission and vision statement of your organization.
  • You’re the face of your organization, so you’ll sign the high-level documents.
  • Finally, you’ll evaluate the success of your organization and be responsible for formulating profit-boosting strategies. As a small business owner, if you’re the one managing the water purification plant, these will be your added responsibilities:
  • You’ll oversee the smooth running of your water purification (industrial) plants.
  • As a water purification plant manager , you’ll need to ensure that all equipment is functional and focus on preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • It’s your job to ensure that your plant meets the safety and hygiene standards at all times.

Water Purification Business Plan Template

A well-defined plan relies on market research and stresses quality. It also helps you secure funding and start-up assets, fulfill an unsatisfied market need, attract customers, monitor start-up expenses, and prevents very expensive shut down.

Here’s an elaborate water purification business plan template using which you can create your own business plan.

1. Executive and company summary

This executive summary aims to summarise the critical points of this comprehensive business plan, saving you time and preparing you for the upcoming content.

An executive summary for a company includes:

  • The business opportunity – describes the need for your services.
  • Services – tell how your business will serve the market.
  • The target market – represents the customer base you will be targeting.
  • Business model – how your services create, deliver, and capture value.
  • Marketing plan and sales strategy – describe how you will market and sell your products to a potentially unsatisfied market.
  • Discuss your competition and how you plan to gain market share – how can you differentiate yourself from your competitors, i.e., what do you offer to customers that nobody else can?

2. Services offered

The products and services section of your business plan should include a description of the products or services you are offering or plan to offer.

You should explain how your products and services will be priced and compare the products.

Your product and service section outlines your product or service, why your market needs it, and how it will compete with other businesses selling similar products and services.

3. Market analysis

Market analysis for water purification business plan

Market analysis is about figuring out the needs of your target market, whether the existing products on the market meet those needs, and what competitors are doing to meet those needs.

You’ll also want to figure out how much people in your industry make per year, how fast the industry is growing or shrinking, and what kind of barriers exist for new players entering it, so you can decide if the environment is suitable for your business idea.

Essentially: Market analysis helps you determine if there’s an actual need for your product or service.

4. Human resources plan

The importance of a solid human resources plan cannot be overstated, especially in specialized industry sectors. A business needs the right people to do the jobs, and you need a solid plan to hire the right talent.

A well-executed human resources business plan will help you attract and retain talent, which is essential for any company looking to grow.

5. Financial Plan

A financial plan is not just a list of numbers and projections. It overviews your current business financials and the direction they are progressing in.

Your financial plan will help you set realistic expectations regarding the overall costs and success of your business. You are more likely to be prepared for any eventuality, whether a crisis or incredible growth if you know your financials inside and out.

6. Marketing strategy

Starting a business, ensuring quality service, and promoting operational efficiency are undoubtedly necessary. But you’ll struggle with reaching your ideal consumers if you don’t have actionable marketing and business strategies. To ensure your business thrives, create marketing strategies that increase brand visibility and keep bringing quality leads.

How to Start a Water Purification Business?

Follow these steps to start a water purification business:

1. Use the business plan template for your water purification business

A comprehensive plan is essential for new water purification business owners. This plan should include all aspects of the company, including start-up costs, funding, and day-to-day operations.

New business owners also need to be realistic about their goals and expectations. Finally, it’s essential to have a solid understanding of the competition.

Businesses with well-thought-out plans are more likely to succeed.

2. Form the legal entity

When starting your business, you must know what kind of liability exposure you want and your company goals. A sole proprietorship may be enough if you sell to limited consumers.

But a corporate organization or LLC may be better if you want more protection or to grow the business.

3. Obtain permissions and business licenses

Obtain permissions and business licenses

If you’re looking to start a new business, it’s important to remember that specific licenses and permits are required by law. However, this varies depending on the type of water purification business you’re looking to start and where your business will be located.

Contact your local business licensing office or chamber of commerce to find out which permits and licenses you need.

4. Purchase equipment

The most critical elements of starting a water purification business are equipment, tools, and supplies.

You’ll need some things for everyday use, like wrenches and screwdrivers, but you’ll also need more specialized items, like meters or pumps. And remember your safety equipment. You’ll want to ensure you have all the protection you need when working with chemicals or other hazardous materials.

To ace this step, document everything you might need and research different suppliers that fulfill your requirements. You can also consider renting equipment you won’t regularly require; buying expensive equipment that you wouldn’t use frequently doesn’t make sense.

5. Market your services

Now that you’ve built your water purification business, it’s time to get it out there and start generating revenue. Your own sales force will prove most helpful here. Start with building a brand identity to stand apart from your competitors, reach monthly sales target, and keep sales growing gradually. This includes naming your business and creating a logo and color schemes to remain consistent across social media platforms. It is branding that helps you charge a premium price and stay afloat in economic downturn.

You can then work on creating a website for your business with all the details. Finally, it’s time to create a launch strategy for such a niche product—leverage word of mouth via friends and family, social media shout-outs, and influencer marketing. Advertising in local newspapers, paid ads on social media, yellow page ads (local directories), and more are also game changers for your high purity water business.

When to start RO Drinking Water Plant Business

The best time to start this business is in February and March.

Investment Required For RO Drinking Water Plant

The investment required for this business is low in comparison to other business projects. It also depends on various factors that I am going to discuss below.

The cost that you have to incur to look for land or acquire licenses and permissions also adds to the investment cost. Investment is the main concern of every business in India. The funds that are needed to start this business are huge. The machinery that is required takes a lot of funds. You can start RO Drinking water Plant on a medium or large scale and invest between Rs 30 to 40 Lakh.

For medium scale, you need to invest a sum of Rs 30 to 40 lakh and for a large scale business, you need to invest a sum of Rs 40 to 60 lakh.

  • The water TDS and minerals at the location of your business.
  • The production capacity of your RO Drinking water plant.
  • Business set up cost
  • Transportation Cost
  • Water source feed and chemistry

Water packaging choice and production and packaging. It is up to you whether you choose pouches, jars or bottles.

Considering the above points we calculate the basic investment cost of the RO Drinking water plant. You can also spend less than this if you want to invest in a 100 LPH RO Plant.

But in the future, when the capacity, manufacturing and packaging of filtered water increases, you can initially increase the cost of investment as well. It can go to Rs 70 lakh also.

Technical Aspects of Raw Water Purification

  • Coagulation process – We add alum chemicals in raw water to remove impurities. Alum chemistry produces positive charges. The alum clings together with the negative charge of the spares and forms large particles. Large particles remove from the water. For the process of coagulation, keep water stable for one hour.
  • Reverse Osmosis – You easily remove dissolved impurities such as salts from water by the RO process.
  • Chlorination – Chlorination kills the bubbling bacteria and other microbes in the tank.
  • Sand Filtration – Remove unwanted impurities through a sand filter.
  • Carbon Filtration De-chlorination – After sand filtering, the carbon passes the water through the filter which removes odour and colour.
  • Packing and Bottling – After the de-chlorination of carbon filtering, the purified water fills in bottles and jars.

Difference between mineral water plant and RO packaged drinking water plant

First of all, you should understand the difference between a packed drinking water plant and a mineral water plant. Without understanding this difference, we cannot move forward in the right direction.

  • Packaged drinking water or bottled water plant – processes bore well water in it. Reduce TDS in bore well water with the help of the RO process. RO process i.e. reverses the osmosis process. RO process packaged drinking water does not contain minerals.
  • Mineral Water Plant – In this plant we use natural sources such as spring water and mountain water. These waters contain minerals. Which is beneficial for human health? Add more minerals to the water when necessary in the process of a water plant. Important minerals found in these waters are sodium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.

The RO water bottling plant project report has been prepared for the RO drinking water plant packaged drinking water plant. RO drinking water plant is also known as a bottled drinking water project.

Profit Margin Calculation of RO Drinking Water Plant

To earn profit from a business is the desire of every businessman. Every individual who wishes to start a business thinks about profit-making first. How a businessman can earn profits is a major concern. Thus we are going to calculate the expected profit from this business.

Annual Profit from RO Business

The main challenge in the RO Drinking water business is to capture the market. Although the demand for filtered water in the market is increasing still to attract people from famous brands to your brand is tough and challenging.

It is expected that you can make a profit of Rs 4 lakh or above per month from this business if you set it up on a large scale.

People who are health conscious have more awareness for drinking safe mineral water and thus giving you huge profits.

If the daily production is 8000 bottles then the annual production is 8000X365= 2920000 bottles.

Total number of Crates considering 12 bottles in one crate

 2920000/12 = 24,333 Crates annually.

If the selling price of one crate is Rs 80 the cost of selling 24333 crates of mineral water= is Rs 80 X 24333= Rs 1 crore 94 lakh. This is the annual turnover. From this, you need to subtract the cost of investment and you get the total profit earned annually.

For calculation of the cost of manufacturing, you need to include the staff salary, raw material expenses, transportation expenses, electricity and telephone expenses, lab expenses and other expenses too.

The total production cost for 24333 crates of packages of drinking water turns out to be around Rs 12 Lakhs. Thus the annual cost of production is Rs 1 crore 44 lakh. Total profit turns out to be Rs 1 crore 94 Lakh – Rs 1 crore 44 Lakhs that is Rs 50 lakh annually.

How to write a business plan for a water purification plant?

water purification plant business plan

Putting together a business plan for a water purification plant can be daunting - especially if you're creating a business for the first time - but with this comprehensive guide, you'll have the necessary tools to do it confidently.

We will explore why writing one is so important in both starting up and growing an existing water purification plant, as well as what should go into making an effective plan - from its structure to content - and what tools can be used to streamline the process and avoid errors.

Without further ado, let us begin!

In this guide:

Why write a business plan for a water purification plant?

What information is needed to create a business plan for a water purification plant.

  • How do I build a financial forecast for a water purification plant?

The written part of a water purification plant business plan

  • What tool should I use to write my water purification plant business plan?

Understanding the document's scope and goals will help you easily grasp its structure and content. Before diving into the specifics of the plan, let's take a moment to explore the key reasons why having a water purification plant business plan is so crucial.

To have a clear roadmap to grow the business

It's rarely business as usual for small businesses. The economy follows cycles where years of growth are followed by recessions, and the business environment is always changing with new technologies, new regulations, new competitors, and new consumer behaviours appearing all the time...

In this context, running a business without a clear roadmap is like driving blindfolded: it's dangerous at best. That's why writing a business plan for a water purification plant is essential to create successful and sustainable businesses.

To write an effective business plan, you will need to take stock of where you are (if you are already in business) and where you want the business to go in the next three to five years.

Once you know where you want your water purification plant to be, you'll have to identify:

  • what resources (human, equipment, and capital) are needed to get there,
  • at what pace the business needs to progress to get there in time,
  • and what risks you'll face along the way.

Going through this process regularly is beneficial, both for startups and existing companies, as it helps make informed decisions about how best to allocate resources to ensure the long-term success of the business.

To anticipate future cash flows

Regularly comparing your actual financial performance to the projections in the financial forecast of your water purification plant's business plan gives you the ability to monitor your business's financial health and make necessary adjustments as needed.

This practice allows you to detect potential financial issues, such as unexpected cash shortfalls before they escalate into major problems. Giving you time to find additional financing or put in place corrective measures.

Additionally, it helps you identify growth opportunities, like excess cash flow that could be allocated to launch new products and services or expand into new markets.

Staying on track with these regular comparisons enables you to make well-informed decisions about the amount of financing your business might require, or the excess cash flow you can expect to generate from your main business activities.

To secure financing

A detailed business plan becomes a crucial tool when seeking financing from banks or investors for your water purification plant.

Investing and lending to small businesses are very risky activities given how fragile they are. Therefore, financiers have to take extra precautions before putting their capital at risk.

At a minimum, financiers will want to ensure that you have a clear roadmap and a solid understanding of your future cash flows (like we just explained above). But they will also want to ensure that your business plan fits the risk/reward profile they seek.

This will off-course vary from bank to bank and investor to investor, but as a rule of thumb. Banks will want to see a conservative financial management style (low risk), and they will use the information in your business plan to assess your borrowing capacity — the level of debt they think your business can comfortably handle — and your ability to repay the loan. This evaluation will determine whether they'll provide credit to your water purification plant and the terms of the agreement.

Whereas investors will carefully analyze your business plan to gauge the potential return on their investment. Their focus lies on evidence indicating your water purification plant's potential for high growth, profitability, and consistent cash flow generation over time.

Now that you recognize the importance of creating a business plan for your water purification plant, let's explore what information is required to create a compelling plan.

Writing a water purification plant business plan requires research so that you can project sales, investments and cost accurately in your financial forecast.

In this section, we cover three key pieces of information you should gather before drafting your business plan!

Carrying out market research for a water purification plant

As you consider writing your business plan for a water purification plant, conducting market research becomes a vital step to ensure accurate and realistic financial projections.

Market research provides valuable insights into your target customer base, competitors, pricing strategies, and other key factors that can significantly impact the commercial success of your business.

Through this research, you may uncover trends that could influence your water purification plant.

1. Your water purification plant may experience increased demand as people become more aware of the importance of clean drinking water. 2. Your customers might prefer a more convenient way to purchase water purification products, such as online ordering or subscription services.

Such market trends play a significant role in forecasting revenue, as they offer valuable data about potential customers' spending habits and preferences.

By incorporating these findings into your financial projections, you can present investors with more accurate information, helping them make informed decisions about investing in your water purification plant.

Developing the sales and marketing plan for a water purification plant

As you embark on creating your water purification plant business plan, it is crucial to budget sales and marketing expenses beforehand.

A well-defined sales and marketing plan should include precise projections of the actions required to acquire and retain customers. It will also outline the necessary workforce to execute these initiatives and the budget required for promotions, advertising, and other marketing efforts.

This approach ensures that the appropriate amount of resources is allocated to these activities, aligning with the sales and growth objectives outlined in your business plan.

The staffing and capital expenditure requirements of a water purification plant

Whether you are starting or expanding a water purification plant, it is important to have a clear plan for recruitment and capital expenditures (investment in equipment and real estate) in order to ensure the success of the business.

Both the recruitment and investment plans need to be coherent with the timing and level of growth planned in your forecast, and require appropriate funding.

Staffing costs might include salaries for the plant manager, plant operators, maintenance staff, and administrative assistants. Equipment costs might include filtration systems, pumps, valves, meters, and related supplies.

In order to create a realistic financial forecast, you will also need to consider the other operating expenses associated with running the business on a day-to-day basis (insurance, bookkeeping, etc.).

Once you have all the necessary information to create a business plan for your water purification plant, it is time to start creating your financial forecast.

What goes into your water purification plant's financial forecast?

The financial forecast of your water purification plant's business plan will enable you to assess the growth, profitability, funding requirements, and cash generation potential of your business in the coming years.

The four key outputs of a financial forecast for a water purification plant are:

  • The profit and loss (P&L) statement ,
  • The projected balance sheet ,
  • The cash flow forecast ,
  • And the sources and uses table .

Let's look at each of these in a bit more detail.

The projected P&L statement

Your water purification plant forecasted P&L statement enables the reader of your business plan to get an idea of how much revenue and profits your business is expected to make in the near future.

forecasted profit and loss statement in a water purification plant business plan

Ideally, your reader will want to see:

  • Growth above the inflation level
  • Expanding profit margins
  • Positive net profit throughout the plan

Expectations for an established water purification plant will of course be different than for a startup. Existing businesses which have reached their cruising altitude might have slower growth and higher margins than ventures just being started.

The projected balance sheet of your water purification plant

Your water purification plant's forecasted balance sheet enables the reader of your plan to assess your financial structure, working capital, and investment policy.

It is composed of three types of elements: assets, liabilities and equity:

  • Assets: represent what the business owns and uses to produce cash flows. It includes resources such as cash, equipment, and accounts receivable (money owed by clients).
  • Liabilities: represent funds advanced to the business by lenders and other creditors. It includes items such as accounts payable (money owed to suppliers), taxes due and loans.
  • Equity: is the combination of what has been invested by the business owners and the cumulative profits and losses generated by the business to date (which are called retained earnings). Equity is a proxy for the value of the owner's stake in the business.

example of forecasted balance sheet in a water purification plant business plan

Your water purification plant's balance sheet will usually be analyzed in conjunction with the other financial statements included in your forecast.

Two key points of focus will be:

  • Your water purification plant's liquidity: does your business have sufficient cash and short-term assets to pay what it owes over the next 12 months?
  • And its solvency: does your business have the capacity to repay its debt over the medium-term?

The projected cash flow statement

A cash flow forecast for a water purification plant shows how much cash the business is projected to generate or consume.

example of cash flow forecast in a water purification plant business plan

The cash flow statement is divided into 3 main areas:

  • The operating cash flow shows how much cash is generated or consumed by the operations (running the business)
  • The investing cash flow shows how much cash is being invested in capital expenditure (equipment, real estate, etc.)
  • The financing cash flow shows how much cash is raised or distributed to investors and lenders

Looking at the cash flow forecast helps you to ensure that your business has enough cash to keep running, and can help you anticipate potential cash shortfalls.

It is also a best practice to include a monthly cash flow statement in the appendices of your water purification plant business plan so that the readers can view the impact of seasonality on your business cash position and generation.

The initial financing plan

The initial financing plan - also called a sources and uses table - is an important tool when starting a water purification plant.

It shows where the money needed to set up the business will come from (sources) and how it will be allocated (uses).

initial financing plan in a water purification plant business plan

Having this table helps understand what costs are involved in setting up the water purification plant, how the risks are distributed between the shareholders and the lenders, and what will be the starting cash position (which needs to be sufficient to sustain operations until the business breaks even).

Now that the financial forecast of a water purification plant business plan is understood, let's focus on what goes into the written part of the plan.

The written part of the business plan is where you will explain what your business does and how it operates, what your target market is, whom you compete against, and what strategy you will put in place to seize the commercial opportunity you've identified.

Having this context is key for the reader to form a view on whether or not they believe that your plan is achievable and the numbers in your forecast realistic.

The written part of a water purification plant business plan is composed of 7 main sections:

  • The executive summary
  • The presentation of the company
  • The products and services
  • The market analysis
  • The strategy
  • The operations
  • The financial plan

Let's go through the content of each section in more detail!

1. The executive summary

The first section of your water purification plant's business plan is the executive summary which provides, as its name suggests, an enticing summary of your plan which should hook the reader and make them want to know more about your business.

When writing the executive summary, it is important to provide an overview of the business, the market, the key financials, and what you are asking from the reader.

Start with a brief introduction of the business, its name, concept, location, how long it has been in operation, and what makes it unique. Mention any services or products you plan to offer and who you sell to.

Then you should follow with an overview of the addressable market for your water purification plant, current trends, and potential growth opportunities.

You should then include a summary of your key financial figures such as projected revenues, profits, and cash flows.

Finally, you should detail any funding requirements in the ask section.

2. The presentation of the company

The second section in your water purification plant's business plan should focus on the structure and ownership, location, and management team of the company.

The structure and ownership part provides an overview of the legal structure of the business, who the owners are and how much each has invested and owns. If you are seeking financing it is important that the reader gets a clear picture of which legal entity is receiving the funds, and who controls the business.

The location part should give an overview of the premises from which the company is operating, and why that location is of particular interest (catchment area, accessibility, amenities nearby, etc.).

When describing the location of your water purification plant, you may emphasize the potential for a large customer base. The area could be densely populated and have a need for clean drinking water. The location could also have easy access to transportation, allowing for efficient delivery of the product. You might also emphasize the cost advantages of the location, such as lower labor and operating costs. Finally, the area could have a favorable regulatory and tax environment that could be attractive to a third-party financier.

Finally, you should introduce the management team. Explain each member's role, background, and experience.

It is also important to emphasize any past successes that the members of the management team have achieved, and how long they've been working together, as this will help potential lenders or investors understand why they should trust in their leadership.

3. The products and services section

The products and services section of your business plan should include a detailed description of what your company offers, who are the target customers, and what distribution channels are part of your go-to-market.

For example, your water purification plant might offer customers water filtration systems that use reverse osmosis technology to remove impurities from drinking water, home delivery of bottled water, and water cooler rental services. These products and services are important for customers who want access to clean, safe drinking water, as well as convenience and cost savings.

4. The market analysis

When presenting your market analysis in your water purification plant business plan, you should detail the customers' demographics and segmentation, target market, competition, barriers to entry, and any regulations that may apply.

The goal of this section is to help the reader understand how big and attractive your market is, and demonstrate that you have a solid understanding of the industry.

You should start with the demographics and segmentation subsection, which gives an overview of the addressable market for your water purification plant, the main trends in the marketplace, and introduces the different customer segments and their preferences in terms of purchasing habits and budgets.

The target market section should follow and zoom on the customer segments your water purification plant is targeting, and explain how your products and services meet the specific needs of these customers.

For example, your target market might include people who live in areas where the tap water is not safe to drink. These people would need a reliable source of clean water and may have a higher disposable income to invest in water purification. They may also be more health conscious and prioritize the quality of their drinking water.

Then comes the competition subsection, where you should introduce your main competitors and explain what differentiates you from them.

Finally, you should finish your market analysis by giving an overview of the main regulations applicable to your water purification plant.

5. The strategy section

When crafting the strategy section of your business plan for your water purification plant, it's important to cover several key aspects, including your competitive edge, pricing strategy, sales & marketing plan, milestones, and risks and mitigants.

In the competitive edge subsection, clearly explain what sets your company apart from competitors. This is particularly critical if you're a startup, as you'll be trying to establish your presence in the marketplace among entrenched players.

The pricing strategy subsection should demonstrate how you aim to maintain profitability while offering competitive prices to your customers.

For the sales & marketing plan, outline how you plan to reach and acquire new customers, as well as retain existing ones through loyalty programs or special offers.

In the milestones subsection, detail what your company has achieved thus far and outline your primary objectives for the coming years by including specific dates for expected progress. This ensures everyone involved has clear expectations.

Lastly, in the risks and mitigants subsection, list the main risks that could potentially impact the execution of your plan. Explain the measures you've taken to minimize these risks. This is vital for investors or lenders to feel confident in supporting your venture - try to proactively address any objection they might have.

Your water purification plant could face a variety of potential risks. For example, your plant may experience power outages due to natural disasters or equipment malfunctions. This could disrupt operations and cause delays in production. Additionally, your plant could be exposed to a cyber attack that could compromise the safety of the water being purified. This could result in potential health hazards for those consuming the water, as well as financial losses due to the damage caused.

6. The operations section

The operations of your water purification plant must be presented in detail in your business plan.

The first thing you should cover in this section is your staffing team, the main roles, and the overall recruitment plan to support the growth expected in your business plan. You should also outline the qualifications and experience necessary to fulfil each role, and how you intend to recruit (using job boards, referrals, or headhunters).

You should then state the operating hours of your water purification plant - so that the reader can check the adequacy of your staffing levels - and any plans for varying opening times during peak season. Additionally, the plan should include details on how you will handle customer queries outside of normal operating hours.

The next part of this section should focus on the key assets and IP required to operate your business. If you depend on any licenses or trademarks, physical structures (equipment or property) or lease agreements, these should all go in there.

You could have key assets such as the water purification technology and the infrastructure needed to keep the plant running. Additionally, the plant may have intellectual property such as trademarks or patents for proprietary processes or designs that could be used to create a competitive advantage.

Finally, you should include a list of suppliers that you plan to work with and a breakdown of their services and main commercial terms (price, payment terms, contract duration, etc.). Investors are always keen to know if there is a particular reason why you have chosen to work with a specific supplier (higher-quality products or past relationships for example).

7. The presentation of the financial plan

The financial plan section is where we will include the financial forecast we talked about earlier in this guide.

Now that you have a clear idea of the content of a water purification plant business plan, let's look at some of the tools you can use to create yours.

What tool should I use to write my water purification plant's business plan?

There are two main ways of creating your water purification plant business plan:

  • Using specialized business planning software,
  • Hiring a business plan writer.

Using an online business plan software for your water purification plant's business plan

The modern and most efficient way to write a water purification plant business plan is to use business plan software .

There are several advantages to using specialized software:

  • You can easily create your financial forecast by letting the software take care of the financial calculations for you without errors
  • You are guided through the writing process by detailed instructions and examples for each part of the plan
  • You can access a library of dozens of complete business plan samples and templates for inspiration
  • You get a professional business plan, formatted and ready to be sent to your bank or investors
  • You can easily track your actual financial performance against your financial forecast
  • You can create scenarios to stress test your forecast's main assumptions
  • You can easily update your forecast as time goes by to maintain visibility on future cash flows
  • You have a friendly support team on standby to assist you when you are stuck

Hiring a business plan writer to write your water purification plant's business plan

Outsourcing your water purification plant business plan to a business plan writer can also be a viable option.

These writers possess valuable experience in crafting business plans and creating accurate financial forecasts. Additionally, enlisting their services can save you precious time, enabling you to concentrate on the day-to-day operations of your business.

It's important to be mindful, though, that hiring business plan writers comes with a cost. You'll be paying not just for their time but also for the software they use, and their profit margin.

Based on experience, a complete business plan usually requires a budget of at least £1.5k ($2.0k) excluding tax, and more if revisions are needed after initial meetings with lenders or investors - changes often arise following these discussions.

When seeking investment, be cautious about spending too much on consulting fees. Investors prefer their funds to contribute directly to business growth. Thus, the amount you spend on business plan writing services and other consulting services should be negligible compared to the amount you raise.

Another aspect to consider is that while you'll receive the output of the business plan, you usually won't own the actual document. It will be saved in the consultant's business plan software, which will make updating the plan challenging without retaining the consultant on a retainer.

Given these factors, it's essential to carefully weigh the pros and cons of outsourcing your water purification plant business plan to a business plan writer and decide what best suits your business's unique needs.

Why not create your water purification plant's business plan using Word or Excel?

Using Microsoft Excel and Word (or their Google, Apple, or open-source equivalents) to write a water purification plant business plan is not advisable. Allow me to explain the reasons.

Firstly, creating an accurate and error-free financial forecast on Excel or any spreadsheet demands technical expertise in accounting principles and financial modelling. Without a degree in finance and accounting and significant financial modelling experience, it's unlikely that the reader will fully trust your numbers.

Secondly, relying on spreadsheets is inefficient. While it may have been the go-to option in the past, technology has evolved, and software now performs such tasks much faster and more accurately.

The second reason is that it is inefficient. Building forecasts on spreadsheets was the only option in the early 2000s, nowadays technology has advanced and software can do it much faster and much more accurately.

And with the rise of AI, software is also becoming smarter at helping us detect mistakes in our forecasts and helping us analyse the numbers to make better decisions.

Moreover, software offers ease in comparing actuals versus forecasts and maintaining up-to-date forecasts for clear visibility on future cash flows, as we discussed earlier in this guide. Such tasks are cumbersome when using spreadsheets.

Now, let's address the written part of your water purification plant business plan. While it may be less prone to errors, using software can significantly boost productivity. Word processors lack instructions and examples for each section of your business plan. They also won't automatically update your numbers when changes occur in your forecast, and they lack automated formatting capabilities.

In summary, while some entrepreneurs may consider Word or Excel for their business plan, it's far from the best or most efficient solution when compared to specialized software.

  • Having an up-to-date business plan is key to maintaining visibility on your future cash flows.
  • A business plan has 2 parts: a financial forecast highlighting the expected growth, profitability and cash generation of the business; and a written part which provides the context needed to interpret and assess the quality of the forecast.
  • Using business plan software is the modern way of writing and maintaining business plans.

What is an RO Water Purifier? Price, Maintenance, Advantages & Disadvantages

Asif Iqbal Shaik

Clean drinking water prevents waterborne diseases and boosting immunity in various ways , which is why regular access to clean drinking water is considered essential.

When clean drinking water is not readily available, a water purifier becomes a necessity.

Various types of water purifiers are available in the market, and every type has its set of advantages and disadvantages.

Subscribe to Onsitego

However, it is widely accepted that RO water purifiers are the most effective in removing impurities from water.

In this article, we will explain what is an RO water purifier, how it works and what is its pricing.

We will also list an RO water purifier’s maintenance cost, advantages and disadvantages.

What Is an RO Water Purifier & How Does RO Work?

An RO (Reverse Osmosis) water purifier uses high pressure to pass water through a semipermeable membrane (also known as RO membrane) with extremely small pores (approximately 0.0001 microns in size).

The RO membrane’s pores are so small that only water can pass through them, leaving behind impurities like bacteria, fungi, germs, salt and some heavy metals among other things.

In the end, you get clean and pure drinking water, while all the impurities are removed through a separate outlet (also known as reject line).

Water Purifier Maintenance Plan

Apart from the RO chamber, most modern RO water purifiers come with additional forms of filtration methods, including UV (ultraviolet) and UF (ultra-filtration or gravity-based filtration).

Then there are additional filters such as the sediment filter, carbon pre-filter and carbon post-filter.

Below is a simple diagram that shows the important parts of a modern RO water purifier and how the water flows between those components before offering you clean drinking water.

RO water purifier maintenance

An RO water purifier consists of the following stages:

Sediment Filter:

Carbon pre-filter:, carbon post-filter:.

As explained above most RO water purifiers also use additional filters and methods to make water as clean and pure as possible.

Compared to UV-only and UF-only water purifiers, RO-based water purifiers offer the cleanest water.

However, they also cost substantially higher and have a higher maintenance cost.

What Are the Advantages of an RO Water Purifier?

As explained earlier, RO water purifiers offer the cleanest water when compared to UV or UF water purifiers.

They remove almost all forms of bacteria, contaminants, and heavy metals. And all of this is on top of removing excess salt from the water and reducing the drinking water’s TDS .

RO water purifiers are extremely reliable and trustworthy.

Advantages of RO Water Purifier

What Are the Disadvantages of an RO Water Purifier?

Although they remain the most advanced form of water purifiers, RO water purifiers also have some disadvantages.

First and foremost, they cost a lot more than UV water purifiers and UF water purifiers.

Moreover, the rate of water filtration is slower compared to other types of water purifiers due to various processes taking place inside an RO water purifier.

Another disadvantage of RO water purifiers is that they need electricity to work. Hence, they are only suitable for homes that have a constant electricity supply, which may not be ideal for homes with an infrequent power supply.

Yes, they usually have water storage tanks that can store anywhere between 5 litres to 15 litres of water (depending on the model), they need at least a few hours of electricity every day to function properly.

Best RO Water Purifier Brands In India

Although there are dozens of brands that make and sell RO water purifiers in India, based on various factors, including quality, availability, pricing, after-sales service quality and coverage, we recommend buying water purifiers made by the following brands

  • Aquaguard (by Eureka Forbes)
  • Mi (by Xiaomi)
  • Pureit (by Hindustan Unilever)

You can view our list of the best RO water purifiers in India .

HOW MUCH DO RO WATER PURIFIERS COST IN INDIA?

The price of an RO water purifier starts from as low as ₹7,000 and goes as high as ₹45,000.

Obviously, this price range is for RO water purifiers that are primarily targeted towards home use.

RO water purifiers that are targeted towards offices and whole buildings can cost lakhs of rupees.

The price of an RO water purifier depends on various factors, but primarily on the water filtration rate.

Other factors include build quality, number of additional filter chambers, brand value, warranty period, service speed and quality, service coverage, the availability of hot or cold water and smart features like Wi-Fi connectivity and smartphone app.

You can read our in-depth water purifier buying guide to know more about which purifier suits you the best and what features to look out for.

WHAT IS AN RO WATER PURIFIER’S MAINTENANCE COST?

An RO water purifier’s maintenance cost can be anywhere between ₹2,000 to ₹6,000 per year, which includes the cost of replacement of the RO membrane, other pre-filters and post-filters, UV lamp and the labour cost.

An RO water purifier’s maintenance is mostly related to the replacement of the sediment filter, carbon filter, RO membrane, UV lamp (if present) and labour charge.

The sediment filter and the carbon filter usually cost around ₹500 each, and they need to be replaced every six months.

The RO membrane should be replaced every one or two years (depending on the brand and daily water usage) and it costs anywhere between ₹2,000 to ₹3,000.

You can read our detailed maintenance guide to know more about maintaining RO and UV water purifiers .

Before buying an RO water purifier, you should inquire about its annual maintenance cost and schedule along with the cost of common parts.
