Cue Card # 98: Your favourite part of the day

Ielts cue card/ candidate task card # 98, describe your favourite part of the day..

You should say:

  • what time of day this is
  • what you like to do at this time
  • who you are usually with then

and explain why this is your favourite part of the day.

[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]

Model Answer:

This seems to be an interesting topic because frankly speaking, I have never really thought about it before up until this point. So, anyway, do I really have a favourite part of the day? I guess I do, but it all depends on my mood. But, just for the sake of keeping this discussion get going, I would say that I prefer the morning just a little – again, just a little – over the other parts of the day.

Well, morning usually the part of the day when I make all my plans as to what should be done and what shouldn’t be done during the remaining parts of the day. But, before anything, I like to go outside and walk or jog a little so that I can enjoy some fresh air and get a feel as to how the rest of the day is going to be like, as far as the weather is concerned. After that, I take a fresh shower before enjoying some good breakfast and hitting the road in order to go to my office.

By the way, morning usually is the busiest part of the day at my home because we all, including my elder brother, sister in law, younger sister and I myself, either getting ready to start their day or shouting at each other to get some help in getting ready. On the other hands, of course, my parents, both retired, remain busy in their own worlds, either in reading some newspapers or watching some interesting TV programmes.

Anyway, this morning is my favourite part of the day, mainly because I feel positive and energetic, both physically and mentally, to plan and prepare the remaining part of the day. Besides, it is during the morning time when I get to feel the mother nature more closely, with its gentle and fresh breeze blowing on my face. Finally, it is my favourite part of the day because it allows me some extra time to enjoy the things, I like, like drinking some fresh coffee and soaking my body with some mild morning sunshine.

Describe your favourite part of the day..

Which part of the day is it? What do you do during this time? How is it different from other parts of the day?

(Download CUE Card)

Sample answer

A day is divided into four parts namely morning, afternoon, evening, and night. I like evenings more than any other time of the day. I am not a morning person at all and find evenings to be more in sync with my character.

Evening hours follow the afternoon from four or five o’clock to seven or eight o’clock. Mornings to me seem highly tiring and it is a chore to wake up every morning and go about my daily routine. Evenings, on the other hand, are more relaxing for me. This is the time when I can be done with my routine tasks and get some time to relax. Actually, I have many evening rituals that consist of having a cup of coffee along with a good book to read, to watch a movie, to sit and talk with my family, or to play with my dog and take it out for a walk. This time is soothing and rejuvenates me after a hard day’s work. I can find different ways to unwind and reinvigorate myself.

Evenings are different from other times in the day as they have a more calming effect and urge you into a state of relaxation. The sun sets during this time and it goes dark signifying the start of the third part of the day. This phenomenon is always a satisfying sight to see, regardless of the surroundings and the weather. This is why I really enjoy the evening more than the other times of the day.

Describe a time of the day you like

You should say.

Modal Answer 1

> What time of day it is > What you do at that time > Who you are usually with > And explain why you like it.

What time of day it is& What you do at that time?

Different people have different preferences about what part of the day they like the most. Some people prefer early mornings and some prefer evenings. However, I have always liked the nights more than any other part of the day.

For obvious work reasons and health concerns, I also prefer to wake up early in the morning, but, I feel most productive and happy at night. After a busy day, night-time allows me to re-gain my energy and also to spend quality time with my family.

Who you are usually with?

Weekend nights are my favourite as I do not have to wake up early the next day. Sometimes, I watch online shows on these nights or read my favourite books. I also go on late night long-drives with my family members or friends that eventually endup in eating ice-cream. Anyway, nights often create a unique calmness and quiet around me which provides me clarity of mind.

And explain why you like it?

After a hectic day, everyone likes to relax and spend some quality time, same is the case with me. It is that time of the day which I look forward to as it is away from all the humdrum of life and provides me with composure and relaxation.

LOVE this post!! Students are so blessed to have you!

I love your blog post! The favourite part on my School day is also the morning! All the kiddos (except one) in my class are non verbal so unfortunately we don't get to find out too much about them which is a shame – because as you say it's so important to find out all the different things and it's a great social time for them too! Your mornings sound so much fun – I bet the kiddos love it!

I love this post and have the products you mentioned! I am inspired to change the regular routine and make it more meaningful! I hope you continue to keep us updated with posts regarding the morning meeting as it progresses thru the year! Thanks so much!!-Chris

Just curious…how long do you spend on that part of the day? Thanks!!!

I LOVE this post Jodi and just put your Question of the Day cards in my cart! Thanks so much for sharing, Victoria & Tricia❤️

I love my mornings too. On Mondays, we meet up for Good News. I agree that it's so good to take some time in the week to just chat with my students. I love the things I learn about them during that time. Our calendar routine each day is one of my favorites too.

I love your format for morning meeting. We are implementing this into our school day next year. How much time do you spend on it each day?

I spend about 20 minutes at our morning meeting.

My favorite part of the school day is biology lessons. Lately, I’ve been really into it, even though I used to hate it. And it all started with the service https://myhomeworkdone.com/biology-homework-help.html . I wrote to them asking for help with my homework, which I did not understand. I really liked their explanation and the way they did my homework and started to get interested in biology.

I’m so glad that my session is finally coming to an end, but I still have a couple of student papers left to write, but I got a job and, alas, I won’t be able to write them myself, I decided to turn to professionals https://literaturereviewwritingservice.com/evidence-based-practice-paper/ and how glad I am, because they wrote everything so quickly, and I handed it all over to my teacher. I hope that they will give me a high score, because I expect to receive a scholarship. I think that I will succeed, because I studied everything in great detail and I think that I will defend my work well.

My Favorite Time Of Day

Almost any time of day is wonderful; every time is wonderful really, but my favorite time of day is the late afternoon right before the sun goes down. If the day has been clear the afternoon light is golden. It seems as though I can see every blade of grass, every leaf, every piece of bark clearly and distinctly. Colors seem brighter, clearer, as some things get lit up from behind. Oftentimes (always?) the wind has died down too, so that everything is still, and in sharp focus. This is by far my favorite time of day, as I’m almost never up for fresh early mornings. The only other “time of day” which rivals it is when I get my first glimpse of the thinnest new moon.

Judy Goldstein Durham, North Carolina

There is not enough of morning. Its gift of sunrise grants an early promise of newness and another chance. My body is rested, my mind is clear, my spirit receptive. I sometimes wish that all of life could be morning.

The early hours join me in recapturing unique parts of the day. These best moments emerge from behind the clock. As they transcend time the flash is suddenly, simply there. It can come from a tone of voice, some gesture, a starling attacking the suet, a certain expression in a letter. Such moments race with the sun as it changes the sky, creating beauty for a poetic afternoon or a reflection at midnight. In the magic of morning I can bring all home.

More than anything else I like to write. And rewrite. I often seize pen and paper and rush to embrace something special, unannounced. It is a sense I feel. People have called this shimmer incandescence; the entrance, the magic doorway. Morning becomes personal when I can round up these feelings and turn them into playthings, to be expanded and lovingly enveloped. All mine.

If periods of the day could be seasons; morning would be my springtime, gently lifting little pieces of my dreams and showering them over the new life’s constituency. There is no time like it.

Marie H. Baldwin Middlebury, Vermont

Dawn is a time of openness for me. I am physically alone yet through prayer, study and reflection I feel the presence of Abdu’l-Baha, a Central Figure of the Baha’i Faith. I feel an historical unfolding of mankind’s abilities. I feel the power of the dawn of that Day. During these early hours I sense the presence of family and friends who have passed away, yet not faraway.

Early, before the sun rises, there is a mountain. Its shadowy presence is comforting, motherly. The mountain stands in the view of a highway just growing busy. The mountain stands as a token of the majesty of God and a metaphor of His constant presence. The sun rising reminds me of the progression of Manifestations that God bestows upon us. We will never be without a Messenger and dawn is the time I feel a special kind of unity, a place in the cosmic pattern.

William Jay Bender Roanoke, Virginia

9:15 am. I lean out of the window with a smile. That’s when I blow soap bubbles out of my fire lookout tower. Besides reporting smokes in the forest it is my job to take daily weather measurements. I whirl a sling psychrometer to figure the relative humidity. A shiny, black anemometer with spinning cups gives an accurate wind speed. There is a wind vane on top of a nearby pine tree but lightning must have hit it. Some days it doesn’t move at all in the strongest of breezes. So I use a 29¢ bright orange plastic bottle of “Miracle Bubbles,” to see which way the wind is blowing.

A small puff produces six to a dozen. On calm April days they drift slowly to the pine needles thirty feet below. When the winds are squirrely they dance around, bumping into each other and self destructing.

The prevailing winds are from the south on this 7600-foot peak, so the bubbles usually drift north. When the air is moist they disappear intact, catching a twinkle of sunlight before floating out of sight. I suppose they pop before they get to Big Bug Mesa 13 miles away. But I like to think of some gold miner in a dry wash seeing them trail by.

“Dispatcher, winds are from the south at six, temperature 62, RH 38%, visibility 35 miles,” says Jean, the serious civil servant. “They’re so round , so light !” says Jean, the child tossing delicate UFOs to the pine trees.

My life in the woods is a mixture of carefulness and whimsy. I like that picture of me at my favorite time of day: thermometer in one hand and bubble wand in the other.

Essay on My Favourite Day in a Year

December 18, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

There are 365 days in a year and choosing one among all these days is quite difficult. There are so many important days to choose from like birthday or during Puja festivals etc. For a Hindu, there is a festival in each month and choosing a particular day is difficult. However, there is one particular day that I love the most and that day happens to be the Christmas Day.

I am not a Christian and there is no one in my family related to anywhere near Christians but yet I love Christmas. I have always believed in Jesus Christ even though I am an atheist. It sounds odd for an atheist to believe in any god but I do and the god happens to be Jesus Christ.

The concept of Jesus Christ has always been appealing to me. I think of him as my god even though I am a Hindu. Everyone has their own belief and like that so do I.

Christians and their customs and rituals are absolute best for me at least. So, I just love Christmas and Santa Claus. Part of the reason why I love Christmas is because of Santa Claus. Christmas is considered as a sacred holiday all over the world and every where everyone waits for Christmas eagerly.

The history of Christmas is quite fascinating. Christmas represents the birth of Jesus Christ. It is popularly believed that on 25 th December, Jesus Christ was born among the animals on a stable near Bethlehem City. The birth of Jesus was signified by a bright star in the sky.

Angels told that Jesus was a saviour. From that point on, everyone knew that a saviour of mankind has born. Christmas is celebrated to honour the birth of Jesus Christ and it is considered as a day to give presents to the loved ones of the people.

In this day, it is also believed that Santa Claus visit everyone in the world in a sledge pulled by reindeers with presents for everybody. People also give each other presents on this day and in general, they place the presents under a Christmas tree.

Christmas is all about decorating the Christmas tree with ornaments and little lights so that during night it can glow brightly. Christmas is a best holiday for everyone in the world and it also signifies the end of a year. Christmas is magical.

I personally love Christmas because on that day we start the day by eating cake to celebrate the birth of Jesus. In my family that is how we start our Christmas day. We also give each other presents and pretend that Santa Claus came and gave us the gifts. It is a lot of fun in pretending that. After that I spend the day normally. During evening time, I go out with my family to visit a Church to see Christmas choir that takes place in all the Churches.

Also Christmas is the only day when the Churches remain open throughout the night so that people can visit the Church even at night. The Churches are decorated beautifully with lights and in front of most of the Churches; they do a theme of Jesus being born every year to give Christmas a special touch.

It gives me goose bumps to watch that scene when Jesus Christ is being born among the animals. The scene looks ethereal in my eyes. It’s like Jesus is being born all over again.

Christmas symbolizes as new light just like Jesus Christ who is considered as the new light of mankind. Christmas also means holiday time and New Year time. Christmas is the last celebration we have before New Year so it is very important festival in my case.

When the month December starts, the Christmas spirit is always in the air and it’s like a virus spreading throughout the world. It’s like the virus that no one wants to get rid of. Christmas spirit is always in the air and no matter where you look, you can actually taste the spirit in the tip of your tongue.

It may sound crazy, but that is how I feel before Christmas. The excitement is in the air all over the world. Christmas is a day that people everywhere celebrates despite their respective religion. Especially children, who wait for Christmas unlike anything they have waited for in their life and I also wait just like that.

Christmas has always been my favourite day and it may be frowned upon by the people who are hardcore believer of my religion but I don’t care. No one can take the importance and my love for Christmas Day from me. Even my parents tried but eventually they gave up and started celebrating Christmas like proper Christians along with me. I have immense respect for the Christians and absolutely love Christianity.

So I celebrate Christmas along with all the Christians with love and joy that comes out from the bottom of my heart. Christmas is always about the Santa Claus, gifts, cake and the most important of them all is the love that we feel from our heart. This love is something that I want to spread like wildfire among the people around me. The love that I have in my heart during Christmas wants to burst out from my heart and spread itself all around me.

I along with everyone in this world love Christmas. If I consider the fact that there are thousands and thousands of people love Christmas, then I am nowhere near special or anything but Christmas is something that even the mentions of its name makes me smile.

My dream is to go to Bethlehem once and spend the whole Christmas there. If there is anything like next life, then in my next life I would like to be born as a Christian. In my case Christmas spirit is a little too extreme; at least that’s what my family say about me.

Describe your favourite part of the day

9IELTS

Describe your favourite part of the day (i.e. morning, evening, night etc).

You should say:.

  • what you do at that time
  • how it is different from other parts of the day

and explain why it is your favourite part of the day.

[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you’re going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]

Model Answer 1: Different people have different preferences as far as their favourite parts of the day are concerned. Some prefer early morning, while the others like afternoon, and I am sure that they all have their reasons for their preferences just as I do. But, my favourite part of the day is “night”.

Now, please don’t think that just because the night is my favourite part of the day, I don’t like other parts of the day, or I try to overlook their importance. In fact, I believe that both day and night are equally important to maintain a balance in this entire world. But, the night certainly has a different appeal to me as far its occasional silence, the gentle breeze, the moonlight, the bright and beautiful stars in the sky is concerned.

Besides, it is at night time which allows me to spend some quality time with my family and friends while watching some good TV programmes and movies with them. By the way, apart from hanging out with my family at night time and watch some TV, I also like to go out a little and walk in the street in order to see what really is happening in and around my neighbourhood. Sometimes, I also like to read some interesting books at night before falling asleep.  Anyway, this night time is different for me from the other parts of the day because it provides me clarity of mind.

Anyway, night time is my favourite part of the day, primarily because it allows me to recuperate from the fatigue and tiredness of a busy workday. Besides, it also allows me to enjoy some quality time with my family which is not possible during the day time. It is during the night time, I feel like God is revealing some of His mysteries to by letting us watch the beautiful sky which is lit with a bright moon and countless numbers of stars.  Finally, the night is my favourite part of the day because it actually allows me to prepare me, both physically and mentally, for the next day.

Sample Answer 2: This is an interesting topic and I thank you for letting me talk about my favourite part of the day. Well, I am an early riser and the early morning is my favourite time of the day.

I usually wake up at 5:30 am and start the day with a cup of tea. I brush my teeth and change my dress. Then I go to the gym and exercise for about 40-45 minutes. After that, I take a hot shower. I then water the plants I have in my verandah and at around 7:00 am I read the daily newspaper and eat my breakfast. At around 7:40 am I look at my ‘to-do’ list that I prepare the night before and finalise my tasks for the day. At 8:30 am I dress up and leave home to reach the office. (… If you are a student, say that you leave home to attend your class…)

The early morning is somewhat different than the other parts of the day. It is quiet, refreshing and allows me to plan for the remaining day. The night-sleep revives me in the morning and I find it very pleasant to start doing something challenging. This is the ideal time to exercise, eat a nice and light meal, think about important issues, and plan for the whole day.

For me, early morning is the most important and pleasant part as I can enjoy it in complete peace and serenity. The tranquillity of the surroundings, soothing temperature, refreshing shower, and the promise of starting a great day make it worth enjoying. It is said that the morning shows the day and I totally agree with this adage. If I can keep away my tensions and start the morning the way I expect it to be, the whole day becomes fruitful and enjoyable. On top of that, I can recall several occasions in the early morning when I had been able to solve many complex problems. For instance, on one occasion I tried to solve an algorithm for a couple of days but the solution popped up in my mind in one morning, when I was having my tea. This is probably because I am a regular early riser and my mind remains spanking new at that time. I would like to say that early rising is also advantageous for our physical and mental health. I can make important decisions mostly in the morning as I can think logically at a quiet time. I guess this tells pretty much everything I like about this part of the day.

Sample Answer 3: A day is the collection of hours, minutes and seconds. In fact, human life is the summation of some such precious moments. So, I enjoy every second of my life but prefer to sit back and enjoy the dusk more than anything.

Everyone might have some special moments in their life but I enjoy my special moments every day. Dusk! I like dusk the most for some of its attractive features. This is the time when the day ends and night falls in the world. The moment is enriched with blessings. Transformation of daylight into darkness is the key attraction of the moment. The entire world turns silent and reminds us of nature, its magnificent features and beauty. It also suggests that those all were created by the Almighty, and we are blessed to be alive. We are unable to stop the transition of time. We even cannot delay the process for a single second. It goes on, naturally.

There are many things to do for me at dusk. In fact, I am alone at this moment, my parents and siblings are out of the home. So, I have chances to do whatever I want. Usually, I move to the rooftop and sit there idly. We live in an 18-storied apartment in Jakarta. So, the sky view of the city turns magnificent. The red shades in the sky, flying birds, setting sun etc. all create a heavenly environment at that moment. I enjoy them all. Moreover, sometimes I take a mug of coffee with me while passing this time. Reading poetry is another activity for me if I am at home. It mostly happens when my parents return from their offices early, and then they disallow me moving to the rooftop in the dusk.

Dusk is completely different from the other parts of the day. The day begins with the sunrise and ends with the sunset. The dusk is the moment right before the sunset and so I wait for this part round the day. The environment is calm at this time. In other times of the day, there are lots of noise and chaos around and they continue till the night. But with some magical events, dusk becomes quite. Everyone seems to behave differently at this time. When dusk appears, I think a sense of serenity spreads everywhere. So, the moments become different and have a pleasant type of feeling. A sense of peacefulness comes upon me and I forget the tiredness of the day when I walk on the rooftop during dusk.

As an undergraduate student, it is really difficult to manage time for leisure. In fact, I have to remain busy round the day with my academic activities. I return home by noon and complete the assignments and projects. The time I get only for me is evening. But often I have to pass the evening at home with family members. When they are not at home, I can manage the key to moving to the rooftop which remains locked always. Gazing at the open sky creates a mysterious feeling inside me. Nature takes a beautiful look around. Moreover, having a cup of coffee increases the joy of the moments. So, dusk has become the most preferred part of a day for me.

More Ideas to talk about this Cue Card/ Candidate Task Card topic:

Topic: describe your favourite part of the day (i.e. morning, evening, night etc)..

1. I love the early morning hours of the day. After waking up, I practice some yoga this time. The time is completely different from other parts of the day. In fact, this is the beginning of a day and everything seems fresh. I love this part of the day because there are fewer noises around me. I can focus on my yoga without being disturbed.

2. The afternoon is my favourite part of the day. This is the time for my sleep. I take a nap for about half an hour every day. But this is not possible in the college days. The time is different because the sun starts falling. The heat is reduced. I love the part not only for sleep, rather this is the only time when I enjoy movies as well at my home. But the moments become boring when I have to attend college classes.

3. The night is the best time for me. I love the night. In fact, the night is the time when I start working on my projects. By the way, I am a graphic designer and love to work at night times. The night is different from the other parts of the day in all manners. It brings the darkness that has another beauty. The night is my favourite part of a day as it allows me to focus on my work deeply when everyone else is in sleep.

4. Morning hours best suit me for some reasons. I love to read a newspaper with a cup of hot coffee. A morning hour appears fast to me than the other parts of the day. Everyone gets up from the bed and start for their respective duties. This is my favourite part of the day as I feel amazed at how people move to their destinations in the morning hours. Everyone also becomes engaged with their respective tasks in offices or other places. Everything is in harmony during the morning hours.

5. Enjoying a sunset scene is impossible in the other parts of a day. So, I love evening. Usually, I spent my time at the sea beachside here in Sairee Beach in Thailand. Evening attracts me because this is the end of the day. Night falls. And the entire world is covered with darkness. I enjoy the sunset scene and become nostalgic. It reminds me of my past memories. Considering everything, this is the favourite part of the day to me.

Behind the Scenes of First Friday with KAMU

Every month, KAMU attends a wide variety of events to engage with you — our dedicated listeners, viewers and supporters. One of the events we participate in every month (excluding January) is First Friday!

This event is held on the first Friday of every month in Downtown Bryan. During this time, KAMU interacts with the community by chatting with guests and inviting them to spin our wheel of prizes. If you plan to visit us during First Friday, you can find us on Main Street under the bright yellow PBS KIDS tent.

KAMU works hard every month to prepare for this event, including meetings, schedule planning and day-of tasks. Now, we want to give you a special behind-the-scenes look at a typical First Friday for the KAMU team. Follow Marketing Coordinator Alex Bowden and her student workers Elizabeth and Emiley throughout their day.

Starting the Day

Around 2 p.m. on the day of First Friday, the KAMU team heads to our warehouse to gather supplies and decorations. We pack our tent, table, chairs, heaps of goodies to give away and Curious George, of course.

Packing can be a pretty tedious process, but the team loves to give a loud cheer once it is all done. After this, we’re on our way to Downtown Bryan.

Time to Set Up

Once we arrive in Downtown Bryan, it’s time to start setting up our booth. The team unloads all our supplies and begins setting up our PBS KIDS tent.

Next is when it all starts to come together. We put out our prize wheel, set up the table and begin to decorate the space.

Once the booth is all set up, we finish by adding our adorable PBS KIDS banner. This is definitely a team effort, as the stand can be a bit tricky.

Donald J. Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial had barely begun when he started to turn his anger toward his lead lawyer, Todd Blanche.

Although Mr. Blanche has been Mr. Trump’s favorite lawyer for some time, behind closed doors and in phone calls, the former president has complained repeatedly about him in recent weeks, according to four people familiar with the situation.

He has griped that Mr. Blanche, a former federal prosecutor and veteran litigator, has not been following his instructions closely, and has been insufficiently aggressive. Mr. Trump wants him to attack witnesses, attack what the former president sees as a hostile jury pool, and attack the judge, Juan M. Merchan.

Mr. Trump, who often complains about legal fees and sometimes refuses to pay them, has also wondered aloud why his lawyers cost so much, according to the people, who all spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive topic.

Nearly every lawyer who has ever represented Mr. Trump has spent time in the blast zone. But as he enters the third week of his first criminal trial — one that not only threatens his campaign to become president again, but also could send him to prison — the question of whether his lawyers can win enough leeway from his desires has never loomed larger.

Mr. Trump views himself as his own best legal strategist. Since becoming president, he has cast about for lawyers who would do exactly what he wanted, including helping him stay in office after he lost the 2020 election. He has vented to others that he does not have “a Roy Cohn,” a reference to his notoriously ruthless former lawyer. Mr. Cohn, who represented Mr. Trump in his formative business years, was repeatedly indicted and ultimately disbarred.

Jason Miller, a Trump campaign senior adviser, said Monday that the former president and his team were focused entirely on fighting a “ridiculous” case and that “anonymous comments from people who aren’t in the room are just that.” He added: “I would be highly skeptical of any gossip or hearsay surrounding this case.”

Alina Habba, a legal spokeswoman for Mr. Trump, described Mr. Blanche as a “crucial part” of the team. Mr. Blanche declined to comment for this article.

In the Manhattan trial, which resumes Tuesday, Mr. Trump faces 34 felony charges after prosecutors accused him of faking business records to conceal a hush-money payment to a porn star in 2016. He faces three other prosecutions, but this will most likely be the only trial before the November election.

Mr. Blanche reworked his career to take on Mr. Trump as a client, and also represents the former president in two of the three other criminal indictments. Friends say he truly believes that Mr. Trump should not have been charged in Manhattan.

It has become routine over the last year for Mr. Trump to blast his legal team moments before heading to the courthouse, or once inside.

So far at least, Mr. Trump — who erupted repeatedly during two civil trials in the past six months — has been respectful of Mr. Blanche’s strategy while jurors are present. And Mr. Blanche has been doing things that appear to reflect his client’s desires. For instance, in his opening statement, Mr. Blanche made a point of mentioning that Mr. Trump had built a “very large, successful company.”

If Mr. Blanche can persuade at least one juror to have reasonable doubt that a crime was committed, the trial would end in a hung jury, which Mr. Trump would count as a victory.

But Mr. Blanche’s representation of a client who tests the bounds of rules and laws has caused friction with Justice Merchan.

The judge last week warned Mr. Blanche that he was “losing all credibility” by claiming that Mr. Trump was entitled, as a political candidate, to attack people involved in the trial despite a gag order meant to bar him from denouncing witnesses and others.

Mr. Blanche’s friends and defenders say that he has an unsolvable client management problem. If he were to do exactly what Mr. Trump wanted, they say, he would almost certainly be disciplined by the judge and would perhaps undermine his client’s defense.

Elie Honig, a former prosecutor who worked with Mr. Blanche at the Southern District of New York, said that it was “not always the optimal defense strategy at trial to attack full-bore every minute of every hour of every day,” adding, “You will exhaust the jury and, more importantly, you’ll compromise your credibility.”

“The best defense lawyers know that you pick your battles; you pick the most important battles,” Mr. Honig said.

Whether Mr. Trump’s anger will last remains to be seen. There have been many such interactions with lawyers in the past several years: during a second impeachment trial once he was out of office, five criminal investigations of him or his company and three civil trials. His frustration tends to come in waves.

As president, he reserved some of his harshest verbal abuse for his government lawyers. The invective he aimed his White House counsels, Donald F. McGahn II and Pat A. Cipollone, was often so severe that staff members said they had an urge to leave the room.

But Mr. Blanche has had a special status. People close to Mr. Trump have said he likes Mr. Blanche, although they acknowledge that the warmth will probably cool if there is a guilty verdict.

Mr. Trump measures all lawyers against the two he prized most. One was Mr. Cohn, the mentor who gave him access to Manhattan elites and taught him how to use the court system as a blunt instrument. The other was Jay Goldberg, who before he died in 2022 handled various issues for Mr. Trump, including his divorce from his first wife.

“Jay was a fantastic lawyer,” Mr. Trump told a reporter in 2021. “We had some great results. I’m not finding people like this. Jay Goldberg, you know, he was a great Harvard student. But he was great on his feet.”

Mr. Trump described Mr. Cohn, who died in 1986, as “very controversial, but very brilliant.” He recalled: “He did a great job for me. He was actually a very loyal guy. If he was with you, he was a very loyal guy.”

Both Mr. Cohn and Mr. Goldberg also represented mobsters, and both were known for showmanship.

Mr. Cohn wowed Mr. Trump after the Justice Department filed a housing discrimination suit against him and his father in 1973. Mr. Cohn accused the federal government of “Gestapo-like tactics.” He delayed the case for months, settling it with a consent decree in 1975. Mr. Trump claimed victory.

To his biographer Timothy L. O’Brien, Mr. Trump was blunt about what he most admired about Mr. Cohn.

“He brutalized for you,” Mr. Trump said.
