Khaidi Review: Different and Gripping
Movie: Khaidi Rating: 3/5 Banner: Dream Warriors Cast: Karthi Narain, George Maryan, Vatsan Chakravarthy, Yogi Babu, Ponvannan, Thalaivasal Vijay and others Dialogues: Rakendra Mouli Music: Sam CS Cinematography: Sathyan Sooryan Editing: Philomin Raj Presented by: KK Radha Mohan Producers: SR Prakash Babu, SR Prabhu, Tiruppur Vivek Written and Directed by: Lokesh Kanagaraj Release date: Oct 25, 2019
After winning great praise for his intense action-drama “Khaki”, Karthi has come up with another daringly different movie “Khaidi”. As the promos have suggested this film has no romance but action.
Let’s find out its merits and demerits.
Story: A task force headed by Vijay (Narain) seizes drugs worth hundreds of crores. The drug mafia sedates the police officers while they were partying in a faraway place from the city to grab the seized material.
A just-released convict Dilli (Karthi) is entrusted the job of carrying the police officers in a lorry to a hospital. Dilli was on his way to meet his daughter who is at an orphanage.
The drug mafia is planning to take away five police officers from the lorry and another gang hatches a plan to attack SP’s office. All this happens in one night.
Artistes’ Performances: Karthi has essayed the role of a guy who is torn between his job of transporting the police officers safely and yearning for his daughter’s welfare.
At first, the role seems a deglamorized one that lacks heroism, but as the film progresses, we get to see the stuff that caters to his fans as well. He blazes all guns.
He does action stunts as well (but they are believable and realistic). This also ranks one of his best performances.
Narain as a police officer is superb. The actors who have played the role of Karthi’s daughter and the lorry owner also deserve appreciation.
Technical Excellence: As the story is set mostly on the roads in the night effect, it is a challenge for any cameraman to come up with some great visuals. Sathyan Sooryan has excelled here. The lighting pattern in some action stunts is stunning. Action stunts are realistic.
There are no songs in the film but the background score has added the mood perfectly. Editing should have been crisp in the second half.
Highlights: Different story Riveting narration Karthi’s flawless performance No deviation
Drawback: Repetitiveness in final scenes A bit lengthy
Analysis In any thriller, the twists and turns are reserved for the second half to surprise the audiences and much information is not given in the first hour.
But director Lokesh Kanagaraj treads the different path, he comes across as a director with guts. He has laid out all the elements in the open in the beginning of the movie itself.
From the basic premise to the conflict point is established in the first 25 minutes and still it hooks us to the proceedings. Korean and Hollywood filmmakers regularly exhibit such gutsy narrative skills. Here, Lokesh does the same.
Once the core point is established, the director plays with the different characters, their motives, their eccentricities to add tension. Had he narrated the movie in a regular pattern with chases, it would have fallen flat.
The director has given an emotional angle to the basic premise. The sentiments have made this action drama different.
It is a non-stop action drama but the film also makes us teary-eyed on many occasions especially the climax. There is a constant mix of sentiments and action sequences.
Scenes like Karthi’s daughter not sleeping in the night in anticipation of his arrival, Karthi raising his hand to get a mobile signal, Karthi narrating flashback and the activity of students in the police station stand out.
Despite the film features a star-like Karthi, the director has introduced heroine or an item song. There is a flashback about his wife but it is verbal, not visual. Thus we don’t see a female lead at all.
The film has many merits to point out. It is essentially a different and engaging thriller. However, on the flip side, the film is a bit lengthy and becomes repetitive towards the end.
Overall, ‘Khaidi’ is a unique action drama that should be appreciated. It will appeal to serious movie lovers.
Bottom line: Engaging!

Khaidi Review, What’s Behind?
Karthi has picked another unique film Khaidi directed by Lokesh Kanakaraj whose first film Nagaram won critical accolades. Will this experimental film provide break for Karthi whose last movie Dev was an utter flop? Will Lokesh break second film jinx? Let's see.
Khaidi Story Review:
On way to meet his daughter for the first time, a life sentenced prisoner Dilli (Karthi) after being released from jail after 10 years is forced to help a police officer Bejoy (Narain) who is dealing biggest drug mafia case. The mafia gang is split as batches, one to attack Bejoy’s gang and other to attack police station where the drug dump is hidden. How Dilli tackles the situation to safeguard the police officers and meet his daughter forms crux of the story?
Khaidi Artists, Technicians Review:
Basic fact that this entire story takes place in the span of a single night gives Khaidi a unique flavor. A wafer thin plotline is made as an engaging action thriller, thanks to Lokesh Kanakaraj’s exceptional screen writing and incredible taking. Emotions, drama and humor are mixed in right proportion making it a wholesome entertainer. Despite heavy action episodes, one hardly feels bored, thanks to excellent action choreography by Anbariv. Sathyan Sooryan’s cinematography is top-class, wherein Sam CS's background score complementes the visuals. Philomin Raj’s sharp editing add to positives. Production values of Dream Warrior Pictures and Sathya Sai Arts are good.
Onto performances, Karthi lived in the role and it by far is one of the best performances in his career. With his eased comic timing, innocent acts and high-duty stunts make us cherish this character for long. Narain was cool as police officer and Harish Uthaman was a surprise package. The baby who did Karthi’s daughter was adorable. Others were okay.
Khaidi Review Advantages:
Khaidi review drawbacks:.
Few Stretched Scenes
Lack Of Commercial Elements
Tamil Flavour
Khaidi Review, Rating Analysis:
It’s definitely a biggest experiment in recent times. The film hasn't got a heroine and has no single song. Complete story is based on incidents happen in one night. Such screenplay based films are a challenge for directors and Lokesh scores well with his work both on writing and direction.
First half begins on an emotional note with a girl in an orphan home informed that a special person is going to meet her next day. After a special police team led by Narain seizes a record amount of drug, Karthi is forced to help them in the mission and blending of two sub-plots makes narrative an interesting watch. The girl waiting for dawn to see Karthi is heart warming emotional angle. A bang on interval after a twist about the antagonist assures a promising second half.
Second half too begins on interesting note with Karthi trying to protect the police officers and a constable with help of college students taking on goons who attack the police station on two purposes. Karthi’s back story is narrated in a single dialogue yet it makes great impact. Climax is surely one of the biggest highlights when Karthi finally meets his daughter.
All in all, Khaidi is novel and gripping action thriller with adequate amount of humor and emotions. The film is completely focused on the storyline and doesn't deviate a bit. Karthi’s remarkable show, captivating BGM and stupendous camera work are the emphasizing facets. CJ goes with 3 star rating and the film has good chances to shine at box office if promoted properly. If you love to watch new age films based on screenplay, Khaidi is first choice.

Khaidi movie review: gripping thriller.
Film: Khaidi Cast: Karthi Narain, George Maryan, Vatsan Chakravarthy, Yogi Babu, Mahanadi Shankar, Ponvannan, Thalaivasal Vijay and others Dialogues: Rakendra Mouli Music: Sam CS Cinematography: Sathyan Sooryan Editing: Philomin Raj Presented by: KK Radha Mohan Producers: SR Prakash Babu, SR Prabhu, Tiruppur Vivek Directed by: Lokesh Kanagaraj Release date: Oct 25, 2019 CBFC Rating: UA Runtime: 146 min
What's it about?
Dilli (Karthi), a prisoner on parole, is heading to an orphanage, where his 10-year-old daughter is living. He has not met her since her birth as he was away serving sentence for murder. He was stopped by the police for suspicious appearance. A police officer who is about to retire throws a party to the fellow officer but they all get unconscious due to sedatives mixed in drinks. A strict officer Vijay (Narain) gives Dilli the task of transporting the cops to the hospital which is 100 kilometers away from that place. With the drug mafia zeroing in on, will Dill safely accomplish the mission?
From the very first scene, one can conclude that Karthi starrer ‘Khaidi’ is not going to be a regular action drama. This is completely different from the regular dramas we have seen so far. The story setup and the narration are truly in the tradition of Hollywood action dramas that takes place in one night. The story begins hours before midnight and ends in the wee hours. There are no visual flashbacks, no romantic thread, no item song. Start to the finish, its focus remains on the main mission. Like most Hollywood movies, it sets up the core conflict point in the first 20 minutes itself. And the film entirely takes place in a span of a night.
With a gripping screenplay, the director perfectly balances the action stunts with father-daughter emotional drama. The drama keeps moving between three threads but doesn’t confuse you.
A prisoner on parole, a gang of students who caught in a drunk and drive case, a drug mafia, a police officer, a caterer and a constable who just got transferred… all unrelated persons land up in one situation they can’t escape from it. This is an interesting setup and the director uses this motley of characters effectively in his storytelling.
For the most part, the film is gripping and makes a riveting watch. Only towards the end, it becomes too indulgent. Despite this issue, the film is told with sincerity and conviction.
The film is also aided by top-class technical output. Anbariv’s action stunts and Sooryan’s cinematography have given a new dimension to this action drama. The lighting pattern is praiseworthy.
Coming to the performances, it is Karthi who mesmerizes with his brilliant act. His acting matured and realistic. Must watch the scene when he narrates about why he went to prison. Narain as the police officer is good. Other actors have also put in honest performances.
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s screenplay is different and his direction is superb.
Bottom-line: ‘Khaidi’ is a unique thriller with gripping narration. The film has no commercial elements. It should be watched and appreciated for its honest taking, different narration and Karthi’s terrific performance.

Khaidi Review – A Riveting Thriller
Khaidi Movie Review
Telugu360 Rating : 3/5
Tamil star Karthi has been experimenting with stories. After ‘Khaki’, he is attempting serious themes. His latest ‘Khaidi’ has been promoted as a film with intense story and narration. The film has no heroines, no songs. A daring attempt from Karthi for sure. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraju, it has created a good impression with its promotions and trailers.
‘Khaidi’ has a unique story and the basic story takes place in five or six hours in one night. A police officer Vijay (Naren) realizes that a drug cartel gang mixed sedatives in the drinks while the large group of police officers was having a party. The gang’s target is to release the confiscated cocaine from SP’s office. Their boss is also in the custody of the police. Vijay requests Delhi (Karthi), a prisoner on parole who is on his way to meet his daughter, to drive a lorry and safely take the officers to a hospital. Can Delhi save the day?
From the very first scene, ‘Khaidi’ makes its intentions clear- this is a no-nonsense action thriller. It gets to the point straightly. In the first 15 minutes, the main point has been established.
Karthi enters the scene a bit late into the movie but once he does, he takes the charge with his terrific performance. Till the interval, the director puts the audience on the edge of the seat with his gripping narration. There is not a single dull moment before the interval.
Everything is neatly established, multiple layers are presented with lucid way. Still, director Lokesh Kanagaraj has succeeded in maintaining the tense situation. What is more, the movie doesn’t deviate into a romantic thread or take an excuse for a song. There are no songs in the film. There is also no female protagonist.
Amidst the action melee, the core element is father-daughterer sentiment drama. The scenes of Karthi’s yearning to see his daughter pulls your heartstrings.
The action stunts (the are aplenty) are realistic. However, the action-blocks get too repetitive in the second half and the sequences in the SP’s office in the later part test the patience. They need to be trimmed.
The excessive runtime is the main drawback. Also, some scenes are filmed in over the top manner.
Karthi has given fab performance once again. He is seen in a single dress throughout the film. He should be commended for accepting a role that lacks commercial values. He has proved that he can pull off any role with ease. Narain as the police officer is very impressive. Other actors have given convincing performances.
Action stunts and cinematography are top class.
- Gripping narration
- Unique storyline
- Karthi’s performance
- Terrific first hour
- Too lengthy
- Repetitive scenes in the second half
- Serious tone
‘Khaidi’ is a riveting thriller with a different storyline, gripping narration. It is narrated in international format sans songs. There is no heroine either. Multiple threads are explored in this drama that might appeal to serious cinema lovers. It is for niche audiences.

Khaidi No 150 review: After Tagore and Stalin, Chiranjeevi is Shankar now
Khaidi no 150 movie review: with the overarching role, chiranjeevi makes the most of the script to project his return and he does it naturally..
Khaidi No 150 movie cast: Chiranjeevi, Kajal Agarwal, Brahmanandam Khaidi No 150 movie director: V Vinayak Khaidi No 150 rating: 3.5
Whether it is escaping from prison or being taken back to prison, Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi No 150 brings back a lot of memories (Spoiler alert). Khaidi No 150’s narrative pace is analogous to the famous Khaidi of 1983 walking into the police station, patiently listening to the officers yet reluctant to reveal his identity. After a long pause recalling his atrocities, his cover is blown off and all hell breaks loose. The 150th Khaidi of today can bring on the excitement just like he could in the past.
Kaththi Sreenu (Chiru 1) is a small-time thief who helps police catch an escaped prisoner even as he plans his own. He runs away from the prison, only to get caught up in a crime scene involving his doppelganger Shiv Shankar Varaprasad aka Shankar (Yes that’s Chiru 2 and yes that’s his actual name in life). Chiru 1 switches identity with Chiru 2 and a quick flashback forces him to assume the latter’s character to fight corruption.
WATCH VIDEO| Chiranjeevi’s Comeback Film Khaidi No 150: Why To Watch The Film
Chiranjeevi has a knack of choosing social themes wisely, to whatever extent the plot goes. His idea to pick up Murugadoss’s Tamil script Kaththi served his purpose in many ways. From Tagore to Stalin to Sreenu, Chiranjeevi picks up roles that scream out a social message. With corruption as the skeleton, these stories played on different issues plaguing the society. However, Khaidi No 150 walks a few miles more to bring Marx’s “Bourgeoisie and the Proletariat” conflict on the screen. FYI: Chiru 2 is a Communist by ideology who fights crony capitalism (the corporate establishment). From terming the underpriviliged as “extremists” to a sickle used by farmers to slash throats, there is a Left narrative overflowing in the script. His line, “Shaking the political establishments from Delhi to here,” is also a throwback to his brief political stint. With the overarching role, Chiru makes the most of the script to project his return and he does it naturally. But it’s hard to tell whether he chose the crucial issue like farmer suicide that is plaguing the nation and the Telugu states to rebuild his political platform or if it was a script he randomly liked.
WATCH VIDEO | Chiranjeevi’s Comeback Film Khaidi No 150: Why To Watch The Film In Telugu
Nevertheless, Chiru packs enough punch in the dialogues that it makes the narrative spike up in places evoking some cheering from the crowds making the plot a mild tearjerker. The comeback film made his character(s), of course, shadow other roles, which just remain as dots in the storyline. Kajal is one such actor who is wasted in the film. Though Chiru has a couple of lines and facts (like in Tagore) thrown at the audience, the comedic track, embedded with stalwarts like Brahmanandam and Ali, couldn’t conjure that gut-hurting laughter.
Of course, there are some minor misses, the first half is tad slow and the post-interval part is where the actual plot exists, which is rushed. The narrative gets a bit predictable too.

DSP songs do pump up the narrative but a slight disappointment is that dancer Chiru of Indra and Tagore is quite not in shape for a new step. There is modified Veena step and a “buckle lift” step with his son, Ram Charan Teja, who makes a 30-second cameo in a song, but the same agility and lithe is missing.

Siddhu Jonnalagadda, as DJ Tillu, earned a special place in the hearts of audiences with his comedy timing and writing, allowing the makers to come up with its sequel, Tillu Square. The second installment is helmed by Mallik Ram, and Anupama Parameswaran played the leading lady. Amidst very good buzz, the movie has hit the screens today, and let’s see if it has lived up to the hype or not.
With the huge amount earned, Tillu (Siddhu Jonnalagadda) becomes an event organizer. His attitude and style doesn’t change a bit and Tillu instantly falls in love with Lilly (Anupama Parameswaran). He starts wooing Lilly from the moment he sees her, and again, he lands in a huge mess. How Tillu comes out of it forms the crux of the story.
Plus Points:
Films like DJ Tillu and Tillu Square majorly rely on the protagonist’s characterization, and the major challenge for the makers will be to get this aspect right. Tillu is one character which has struck a chord with the audience immensely, and it is very difficult to recreate the same magic. But the team passed the job with flying colors.
It is Siddhu’s show all the way without an iota of doubt. He is the main pillar of this Tillu franchise, and the audience will surely get entertained big time watching him. From the opening sequence, Siddhu grabs our attention with his one-liners, body language, and funny expressions. Siddhu has hit it out of the park with his fantastic comedy timing.
As Siddhu himself is the writer, he knows very well what audiences expect from him and plays it to the gallery. The second half is solid, with non-stop entertainment. The humor is evoked through quirky one-liners and trendy dialogues. Anupama Parameswaran is quite good in her bold role. She shared a solid chemistry with the protagonist and her character travels along with the hero throughout the movie just like Tillu Square’s predecessor. Muralidhar Goud, Prince Cecil, and other supporting cast are decent in their roles
Minus Points:
The sequel begins exactly where the first part ends. But after a neat start things slow down a bit in the first hour. The love track is packed with gags. While a few of them land well, a few don’t work as intended. This is a bit of lag in the story progression in the first half.
As mentioned above, movies like Tillu Square depend on characterization and not on the storyline. Those who expect a strong story might get disappointed a bit. A few scenes might give you a Deja Vu feeling since the story is more or less the same as the first part. The way a few aspects are dealt with looks silly. Murali Sharma’s character gets less screen time, and the final twist looks forced.
Technical Aspects:
The songs are integrated well with the narrative. Ram Miryala and Achu Rajamani did a good job with the songs, while the background score provided by Bheems Ceciroleo is in sync with the film’s quirky mood. The editing by Navin Nooli is decent. The cinematography by Sai Prakash is splendid, and the frames look colorful.
The production values are good, too. Coming to the director, Mallik Ram, he did a good job in narrating this familiar storyline in an entertaining manner. There are loopholes, but the team covered it up with humorous moments.
On the whole, Tillu Square is a neat sequel to DJ Tillu, with an abundant amount of entertainment. Siddhu as Tillu is the heart and soul of this madcap entertainer, and he will once again win over us with his amusing comedy timing, screen presence, and mannerisms. The story is pretty much the same as the first installment, and a few scenes will give us a Deja Vu feeling. The first half is a bit underwhelming, and a few aspects don’t look convincing. But the majority of the second half is filled with non-stop entertainment that works pretty well. There are hiccups, but the entertainment factor keeps the film going. Those who liked DJ Tillu will end up liking this sequel as well. Go for it.

Khaidi Review, Rating Analysis: It's definitely a biggest experiment in recent times. The film hasn't got a heroine and has no single song. Complete story is based on incidents happen in one night. Such screenplay based films are a challenge for directors and Lokesh scores well with his work both on writing and direction.

Analysis: Khaidi is an action thriller with a bit of emotion. The director has stuck with the core theme and didn't deviate a bit. Plus points are Karthi, story and direction. On the flipside, the length of the film appears a bit stretched and there are too many action sequences (while stopping the lorry at various places).
