Neymar News: Joins Saudi Arabian Club Al-Hilal

Soccer superstar Neymar signed a two-year contract to join Al-Hilal, a Saudi Arabian club, completing a deal with Paris Saint-Germain that first surfaced on August 13. The 31-year-old forward played for PSG for six seasons. “I am here in Saudi Arabia, I am HILALI,” Neymar posted on his social media accounts August 15.

Brazilian soccer player Neymar drew attention for his impressive athletic abilities at an early age. He emerged as a star for Santos FC as a teenager, winning four straight Player of the Year awards while becoming one of Brazil’s most popular public figures. Neymar made the leap to Europe to join FC Barcelona for the start of the 2013-14 season and became a fixture for a club that claimed numerous domestic and international titles. After leading the Brazilian men to their first Olympic gold medal in 2016, the star forward transferred to France’s Paris Saint-Germain the following year. He now plays for Al-Hilal, a Saudi Arabian club.

FULL NAME: Neymar da Silva Santos Jr. BORN: February 5, 1992 BIRTHPLACE: Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, Brazil CHILDREN: Davi ASTROLOGICAL SIGN: Aquarius

Neymar da Silva Santos Jr. was born on February 5, 1992, in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, Brazil. The son of a former professional soccer player, Neymar followed in his father’s footsteps by playing street games and futsal, an indoor version of the game. He joined the Portuguesa Santista youth club in 1999, and within a few years was one of the most highly regarded young talents in the country.

Neymar joined the youth system of Santos FC at age 11. News of his abilities spread to Europe, and he was offered the chance to continue his development with Real Madrid C.F. at age 14, but the Santos team’s management reportedly convinced Neymar to stay put with a large bonus.

Following in the footsteps of Pelé who started his career at Santos FC, Neymar made his professional debut for the club in 2009 and lived up to the hype by earning the league’s Best Young Player award. He emerged as a full-blown star in 2010, helping Santos claim the league and Copa do Brasil championships en route to the first of three straight scoring titles and four straight Player of the Year awards. That season he also made his debut for the senior national team and debuted a Mohawk-style haircut, which quickly became popular among younger fans.

In 2011, the flashy forward produced what would be voted the FIFA Goal of the Year and led Santos to its first Copa Libertadores championship in 48 years. However, he also began to experience the backlash that accompanies fame, including media scolding him for fathering a son out of wedlock.

Neymar scored his 100 th professional goal on his 20 th birthday in 2012 and finished the year with a career-best total of 43. That year, Santos also won its third straight league title. In 2013, Neymar became the first Brazilian athlete to grace the cover of Time with his appearance on the March 4 issue.

FC Barcelona

In May 2013, Neymar announced he was making the leap to Europe with a transfer to FC Barcelona, a powerful club that at the time featured superstar Argentine striker Lionel Messi and several members of the Spanish national team.

Neymar lived up to his billing with Barcelona, giving the loaded Spanish club yet another gifted all-around talent. He scored an amazing 39 goals during the 2014-15 season, helping the club achieve the coveted treble by claiming league, domestic cup, and European Cup titles. The following year, one week after Barcelona became La Liga champs, he scored in extra time to propel the club to another Copa Del Rey title.

Paris Saint-Germain

Following a controversial transfer and a world record deal of 222 million euros, Neymar began playing for Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017. His tenure with the French club got off to a promising start, before he suffered the broken foot that ended his season after 30 games. Neymar then suffered another foot injury the following season, though he recovered in time to help his club win the Ligue 1 title.

Already known for his theatrics on the pitch, Neymar came under fire for his behavior during his second season with PSG. He criticized the officials following a Champions League loss to Manchester United in March, drawing a three-game suspension for upcoming Champions League play. The following month, after another loss, Neymar got into an altercation with a fan who was insulting the PSG players.

Neymar and teammate Kylian Mbappé generated some traction over the seasons, and expectations soared in 2021 when Messi joined the squad. However, PSG still hasn’t won the Champions League title.

To start the 2023-24 season, Neymar missed PSG’s August season opener in the French league due to illness. The next day, reports surfaced about a deal to send the Brazilian to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal club. The trade was executed within days. Neymar left PSG as its fourth all-time highest scorer, with 118 goals in 173 matches.

On August 15, 2023, Neymar joined Al-Hilal, a club based in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh. He joins Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Arabian league on a two-year contract. Exact terms haven’t been released, but early reports indicate Al-Hilal is paying a transfer fee between 80 million and 160 million euros ($102 million to $175 million). Both are a considerable jump down from the record-setting 222 million euros PSG paid to acquire the forward from Barcelona in 2017. ESPN reports Neymar’s annual salary will be around $100 million.

Al-Hilal’s next game is on August 19. No word on whether Neymar will take the field in his new blue and white uniform.

Neymar has played for the Brazilian national team since August 2010. He’s tied with Pelé as the country’s leading goal scorer, with with 77 goals in 124 games.

He was criticized for his play during Brazil’s quarterfinals loss in the 2011 Copa America tournament. In 2012, the young star again was subject to criticism when Brazil lost the 2012 Summer Olympics gold-medal game to an underdog Mexico team. Soon afterward, the wunderkind silenced a share of his critics by leading Brazil to victory in the 2013 Confederations Cup, indicating his readiness to shoulder bigger expectations on the world stage.

2014 World Cup Injury

Neymar’s performance shined in the 2014 World Cup on his home turf of Brazil but was cut short before the finals. On July 4, minutes before Brazil won its quarterfinal match against Colombia, Neymar was carried from the field in a stretcher in tears of agony after breaking a bone in his back resulting from a challenge by Colombia’s defender Juan Zuniga. With their star player sidelined, Brazil’s hope for the World Cup title was dashed when they lost their semifinal match to Germany, 7-1.

2016 Olympics and 2018 World Cup

For all his individual brilliance, Neymar still faced the question of whether he could lift his teammates to glory on the international stage. He was suspended during the 2015 Copa America, effectively squashing Brazil’s chances of making an extended run. The following year, he sat out the tournament to stay rested and healthy for the 2016 Rio Olympics, a move that worked wonders: The star player delivered several key goals to propel his team forward, before knocking home the winning penalty kick to give Brazil its first men’s soccer gold medal.

The Brazilians again faced high expectations heading into the 2018 World Cup, but Neymar’s return from a broken foot ultimately wasn’t enough, as a tight quarterfinal match against Belgium ended with a 2-1 loss.

2022 World Cup

Although Brazil won back-to-back olympic gold with its dominant performance at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games, Neymar wasn’t there to claim part of the credit. PSG denied him the necessary permission to compete, citing the upcoming Euro 2020 and Copa America tournaments.

Neymar did take the field in a Brazil uniform for the 2022 World Cup. The squad tied with Switzerland to advance from the group stage, then handed South Korea a 4-1 loss to reach the quarterfinals. The close match against Croatia went to a penalty shootout, with the European team emerging victorious. “I am psychologically destroyed,” Neymar shared on social media later. “It is definitely the defeat which has hurt me the most, which left me paralyzed for 10 minutes after the match, after which I burst into tears without being able to stop.”

Neymar has one son, David “Davi” Lucca, and is expecting a daughter. Davi was born in August 2011 to Neymar and his ex-girlfriend Carolina Dantas. In April 2023, Neymar and his girlfriend Bruna Biancardi announced they are expecting. In June, they shared they are having a daughter.

Neymar’s April 2019 physical altercation with a fan who was insulting PSG players isn’t his only off-pitch controversy.

Late that May, as Neymar was in Brazil preparing for the Copa America, Brazilian model Najila Trindade accused the soccer star of raping her in a Paris hotel room earlier in the month. Proclaiming his innocence, Neymar released a series of private messages and intimate photos between them to demonstrate that their relations were consensual. Brazilian authorities investigated but didn’t find enough evidence to charge the soccer star. However, Trindade was charged with procedural fraud for leveling the complaint and subsequently acquitted in November 2020.

Meanwhile, Neymar had been accused of another sexual assault, this time by a Nike employee. According to the woman, an intoxicated Neymar tried to force her to perform oral sex in a New York City hotel room, tried to block her from leaving, and then chased her down the hallway. The incident happened in 2016, though it didn’t go public until May 2021 when The Wall Street Journal reported Neymar’s refusal to cooperate in an investigation led to the termination of his Nike sponsorship in 2020. Neymar denied the allegations and said his deal ended for commercial reasons.

Neymar’s popularity has transcended the sport of soccer and the famous soccer player has even participated in movies and going on the Jimmy Kimmel show in the United States. Here is a look at the life and career achievements of Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, one of the greatest Brazilian soccer players of all time.

As mentioned before, Neymar is a Brazilian soccer player most known for his play as a winger. Neymar is one of the most popular soccer players in the world due to his style of play which is reminiscent of street soccer. Neymar Jr. is known for his burst of speed, dribbling abilities, and shooting accuracy. The 2013 FIFA Ballon d’Or winner has also been compared to such Brazilian greats such as Pelé and Ronaldinho .

  • His real name is Neymar Da Silva Santos Junior.
  • Neymar Jr. was born on February 5 1992, in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil.
  • He is the son of Neymar Santos Sr. and Nadine Da Silva.
  • His father was a professional footballer and his inspiration.
  • Neymar’s first club team was Santos.
  • Neymar currently has won 26 professional championships, which breakdown as follows: Santos (6), Barcelona (8), PSG (11), Brazil (1).

Neymar Jr. grew up loving the game of soccer in São Paulo, Brazil. Neymar’s father was a pro soccer player and would later go on to advise his son as his career progressed. An avid lover of futsal and street soccer , the way the game is played in the streets of Brazil influenced Neymar heavily as he was on the cusp of turning pro. Neymar played as a boy for Sao Vicente, a youth soccer team in his neighborhood.

The Brazilian footballer developed a technique that mixed quick speed, dribbling, and shooting playing in the streets and with youth club Portuguesa Santista, which would eventually catch the attention of the Brazilian club Santos. In 2003 Neymar began playing for the Santos youth ranks and was immediately touted as “the next big thing”. Santos would give Neymar a contract that paid him $2,000 a month at 15 before even becoming a pro, and by 16 Santos wanted to make sure they had the young prospect signed on for the long term—they gave him an unprecedented $23,000 a month contract before going pro.

To put this into perspective, Neymar was earning what professional soccer players in most of South America were getting paid without ever playing a professional match. By the time he was 17, Neymar would become one of the biggest prospects in world soccer.

At 17, Neymar was promoted to the first team and would go on to make his professional debut with Santos on March 7th 2009, a 2–1 win against Oeste. It would officially start the career of one of Brazilian soccer’s biggest prospects of the last 20 years. Neymar would take Santos back to heights it had not seen since the days of Pelé and Robinho.

In his first season for Santos, Neymar would score 14 goals in 48 games across all competitions . Fans and media were mesmerized by the skill and flash of the lanky winger. Only one year after making his debut, Neymar would triple his output and begin to win championships.

In his first year as a pro Neymar would play for the Brazil U-17 squad and would go on to represent Brazil in the U-17 World Cup.

At Santos, Neymar would begin to finetune his craft all while helping Santos back to the top of Brazilian soccer. In five seasons from 2009-2013, Neymar would score an impressive 136 goals in 225 games for Santos . Not only that but Neymar was instrumental in winning the 2011 Copa Libertadores for the club, defeating Peñarol of Uruguay in the final.

During this period, Neymar was capped by Brazil for the first time in 2010 in a 2-0 friendly match victory against the United States on August 10 2010. He’d cement himself as one of the greatest players in Santos history and the best of the current generation.

Neymar would win the following titles at the Brazilian club:

  • Campeonato Paulista: 2010, 2011, 2012
  • Copa do Brasil: 2010
  • Copa Libertadores: 2011
  • Recopa Sudamericana: 2012

It was truly a miracle that Neymar lasted as long as he did in Brazil. Brazilian soccer was going through an economic boom in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup in the country and Neymar was paid handsomely during his time there. Still, Europe came calling and it was FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi that would be the next chapter of Neymar’s career, and the Spanish giants went on to pay $64 million for his services.

Neymar arrived to a team loaded with talent and that took pressure off of the young Brazilian, being one of the boys on Lionel Messi’s team. Neymar would prove to be pivotal as he formed the MSN connection with Messi and Luis Suarez. The South American trio took LaLiga by storm and Barcelona defeated everyone, many games were 4-0 by halftime on various occasions.

Without question Neymar was playing with the best team in the world, and it showed—the club won:

  • La Liga: 2014–15, 2015–16
  • Copa del Rey: 2014–15, 2015–16, 2016–17
  • Supercopa de España: 2013
  • UEFA Champions League: 2014–15
  • FIFA Club World Cup: 2015.

The Champions League triumph was against Juventus and the Club World Cup was a sound victory over River Plate of Argentina, giving Barcelona their third Club World Cup. It was with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Andrés Iniesta, and of course, Neymar, that the world saw some of the best soccer ever played by any team in history.

In only four seasons and being at times the third or fourth most important player on that Barcelona team, Neymar scored an impressive 105 goals in 186 games for Barca . His time was seen as a resounding success.

Paris Saint-Germain

At PSG, Neymar wanted to step out of Lionel Messi’s shadow and be the central figure of a team on his own. PSG would be that team and the French club paid 200 million euros to sign the Brazilian. In 2017, Neymar arrived in Paris and while the team was made for him to be its star, he did clash with Edinson Cavani. Cavani was PSG’s unquestionable best player and the two had issues on the field at times.

While Neymar has played well at PSG, injuries and the Champions League have put a dent on what would have been a stellar career in France. In his second season Neymar would only play 17 league games and the following season just 15. Nonetheless Neymar has cracked the 100 goal mark for PSG across all competitions in 144 games .

The jury is still out on Neymar, who has been reunited with Lionel Messi and also has Kylian Mbappé on the current squad. Despite winning various titles in Ligue 1, Coupe the France, Coupe de la Ligue and Trophée des Champions, it’s Champions League or bust for the winger.

  • Ligue 1: 2017–18, 2018–19, 2019–20, 2021–22,
  • Coupe de France: 2017–18, 2019–20, 2020–21,
  • Coupe de la Ligue: 2017–18, 2019–20
  • Trophée des Champions: 2018, 2020

With the Brazilian national team, Neymar has represented the country in two World Cups, three Copa America’s, two Summer Olympics, and one Confederations Cup. Neymar has 119 caps for Brazil and 74 goals .

As we’re writing this article, Neymar is the fourth most capped Brazilian soccer player of all time and second highest goalscorer in the country's history over Ronaldo, Romario, Zico, and Bebeto.

Neymar has six World Cup goals in 10 matches where Brazil came in fourth in 2014 and sixth in 2018. In the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament, in the quarter finals against Colombia, Neymar suffered a serious back injury when Juan Camilo Zúñiga kneed the Brazilian in the back and suffered a fractured vertebra in his spine taking him out of the tournament.

Neymar will be the central figure for the Brazil national team in the 2022 World Cup, where the five-time world champions will be odds on favorite to win the whole thing in Qatar.

With Brazil, Neymar only has one title, the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup which Brazil won when they defeated Spain in the final and Neymar had four goals in the tournament.

Full name :  Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior   Date of birth : February 5 of 1992   Location of birth : Mogi das Cruzes (São Paulo), Brazil   Height : 1,74m (5’7”)   Weight : 65kg (143.3 lbs)   Nationality : Brazilian   Current club : FC Barcelona   Position : Forward   Nickname : Jóia, Juninho, Neymarketing

Neymar is one of those rare cases of a true precocious talent coming off the Brazilian streets. He started drawing the spotlight very early in his life and his first trip to Europe in order to showoff his football abilities happened when he was only 14-years old of age. We were in the year of 2006 and  Neymar  was already under the radar of several top European clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona . However, his club in Brazil ( Santos FC ), managed to persuade his father and agent to keep the boy playing in South America for a few more years, or at least until he turned pro.

And so it was, Neymar  continued his development process as a football player in Brazil and played for Santos until he turned 21 years old, in 2013. He went through 5 straight seasons with the club’s first team (2009-2013) and during that time, he got to score 136 goals in 225 games. Quite an impressive record if we have in mind he has done it while he was aged between 17 and 21 years old. In the summer of 2013, the inevitable happened and Neymar finally came to Europe ( Spain ), after signing a highly controversial contract/deal with  FC Barcelona .

His first year in Spain was, as expected, a classic period of a very difficult adaptation to a different country, culture, team and league. Nevertheless, Neymar pulled off some quite good numbers right in his first year wearing a Barcelona jersey and finished the season with 15 goals scored for the club, 9 of those in La Liga . He may have won only one trophy (the Spanish Super Cup against Atletico Madrid , in August of 2013), but his understanding on the pitch with the team’s main star Lionel Messi has shown clear improvements and it can surely only get better in the years to come.

In Brazil , Neymar is already the most popular player of his generation and even though he’s still quite young, he already has more than 50 caps and over than 30 goals scored for the Brazilian National Team . He also made sure to mark his World Cup debut in 2014 by scoring a brace in the tournament’s opening game between Brazil and Croatia . Make no doubt about it, Neymar is set to become one of the best football players in the World in the years to come…

Biography/Wiki/Career

Neymar is a 26-years-old (born on 5 February 1992) Brazilian footballer who was born into a Christian family in  Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, Brazil .

Neymar childhood home

He wasn’t  en route  for greatness right from his birth as he went through the poverty-stricken upbringing as he used to live in a rather dangerous, undeveloped, and socially low-quality area of Mogi das Cruzes, 40 km from São Paulo.  He was born to be special as he met with a fatal car accident when he was just 4 months old , but he miraculously survived with minor injuries.

Neymar childhood photo

He attended the worst schools over there and studied under the candlelight because his parents didn’t have enough money to pay electricity bills. Later, his family moved to his grandparents’ home in São Vicente, São Paulo , to save money, but it wasn’t that easy over there as his family used to live in a single room and had to squeeze himself in a corner of a room to sleep, but they get through the hard times as a family.

Taking an inspiration from his former footballer father, he followed in his footsteps and started playing street football at the age of 3 . With the passage of time, football became a source of happiness for him; as after returning home from school, he immediately goes outside and spends hours dribbling and developing other football skill, till the sunsets. Neymar was merely 6-year-old when he caught the attention of his first coach, Betinho , when he saw him sprinting. He saw great raw potential in Neymar and made him play futsal on indoor wooden courts to brush his technique. The very next year, he became the top scorer in his debut futsal, which opened his door for Santos, the best football club in his area, and the former home to Pele. When he turned 11 , he started playing for youth side Portuguesa Santista .

By 2013, he was transferred to FC Barcelona where he not only won the heart of Barceloneans with his Samba flair, but also enjoyed the heights of fame and nightlife parties and stuff.

In the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he justified his star status with his charismatic performance as he scored 4 goals in the tournament. On 4 July 2014, his World Cup journey ended up in an unfortunate way as he suffered a broken vertebra after a knee in the back from Colombia’s defender Juan Zuniga. It hugely hampered the moral of the team as Germany thrashed them out of the tournament in the semifinal match by 7-1.

Few could possibly not know about the man who broke the world’s highest transfer fee record with an unbelievable margin. Even if those interested in football have not watched his games, they have at least heard about one of the brightest talents to ever come from South America.

has been an absolutely sensation throughout his career, playing for some of the best clubs in the world. The former Barcelona man is considered by many to be one of the greatest footballers of all-time behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Such a status surely needs more attention, as it entices fans to read more about the life that the South American footballer has led. That is why we have provided below, detailed information about Neymar bio.

Neymar date of birth

is 5 February 1992, which means that he is currently 28 years old and in his prime years, even though some might argue that his prime years were during his spell at Barcelona. But that is an entirely different debate that needs further evaluation. It is actually interesting that Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and

share their birthday, as all three were born on 5 February.

Just like many other South American footballers on the face of the earth, such as Ronaldinho, Messi, Maradona, Pele and many others,

Neymar nationality

had a massive effect on his journey towards success in the world of football, as almost everything in Brazil is about football. With such a culture deeply delved into football, many South Americans are Godly people as well, with Neymar himself being a devout Pentecostal Christian, who is reported to be donating almost 10% of his profits to the church.

It might sometimes be surprising to see famous athletes having religious philosophies and leading their lives as devout men of religion, but footballers such as

’s Mesut Ozil, former

and current Fiorentina winger, Franck Ribery and many others show us that there are still a considerable number of religious athletes in football. Now that we know about

Neymar religion

and you have certainly been intrigued to know more about the Brazilian winger, let us have a detailed look at Neymar biography.

Neymar early life

Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, shortly known as Neymar is the son of Neymar Santos and Nadine da Silva and was born in the Mogi das Cruzes municipality in the state of Sao Paulo. As it could be seen, the PSG forward shares his name with his father, by who he is heavily influenced. Neymar senior manages the financial matters of his son’s life, as Neymar junior tends to his professional matters. It is worth mentioning that Neymar Jr. survived a near fatal traffic accident when he was merely four months old.

Just like many Brazilians who later made it to the top in the world of football, Neymar was quite fond of street football and futsal, as it is common for children to play their beloved game in the narrow streets of their city, growing up with the hope that they too could one day become the best in the world.

Interested in moving the ball with his feet, Neymar joined Portuguesa Santista youth team after moving to Sao Vicente in 2003, but it did not take them long to move to another city once again, as they decided to move to Santos in the same year, which resulted in Neymar joining

, one of the most well-known clubs in Brazil and the whole world, at where the Brazilian legend Pele spent most of his professional career.

Neymar childhood

was intertwined with football, as he spent most of his time playing the sport he loved at one of the best clubs in Brazil. His income as a teenager was mind-blowingly staggering and quite unbelievable, as he earned £15,000 in monthly salaries, which helped his family own their first property next to the club’s home stadium.

It is also interesting to know that

Neymar life story

first took him to Spain for try outs with

at the age of 14 years old. But the teenager’s father decided that it was best for his son to grow up playing in his home country before moving overseas. Of course this was only the beginning of Neymar life story, as the Brazilian’s footballing journey was only beginning as he signed his first professional contract with Santos FC at the age of 17.

Neymar profile

Neymar started his professional career with the Brazilian

side, Santos FC and made his professional career on 7 March 2009, in a match against Oeste when he was only 17 years old. He came on as a substitute in the last thirty minutes as his team won the game 2-1. Neymar only got better with every appearance as he wowed the viewers with his skills worthy of Ronaldinho, which resulted in him become an up and coming footballer by 2010.

As he shone his brightest in the 8-1 rout of Guarani in a Campeonato Paulista match, several European clubs turned to the Brazilian side hoping to sing the next big talent on the market. Clubs such as

were reportedly interested in signing the youngster, but Santos rejected both of the offers. The Brazilian had to wait another three years before finally making his dream move to Europe as had previously admitted of having such a dream, which obviously is the dream almost all footballers have in their lives.

Despite trying out for Real Madrid during his teenage years, it was announced on 24 May 2013 that the young Neymar had agreed on a deal to move to Spain, with the major difference of choosing Barcelona over Real Madrid. The Brazilian was welcomed by more than 50,000 fans at Nou Camp, who had come to see the heir apparent to Lionel Messi’s throne.

While his transfer fee was not initially reported and was thought to be a figure around €57 million, it was later revealed that Barcelona had paid more than €85 million in order to bring the prodigy to their side, which resulted in the club and its then president Josep Maria Bartomeu being charged with tax fraud.

Neymar was part of the world-renowned and lethal MSN trio, which included Lionel Messi,

, who currently plays for

, and obviously Neymar himself. The prolific trio started a new era of power for Barcelona, as they even managed to win the continental treble for the Blaugranas. Of course not everything goes as people plan, as the heir apparent to Messi’s throne at Barcelona shocked the world and broke the hearts of Barcelona fans when he decided to join the Ligue 1 side, Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of €222 million.

The Brazilian joined PSG in the 2017/18 season and managed to score on his debut on 13 August in a 3-0 victory against Guingamp. Since then, Neymar has tried alongside other world-class players such as Kylian Mbappe to realize the club’s dream of winning the Champions League title, which they came close to winning in the 2019/20 season, but lost the final to Bayern Munich, who had previously humiliated Neymar’s former club Barcelona in an 8-2 rout.

Style of play

Neymar mainly plays as a winger or a second striker, but is versatile enough to be deployed as either a center-forward or an attacking midfielder as well. Described to be a phenomenal footballer, managers usually make use of his abilities on the left flank as he is more comfortable on his right foot. When we discuss the one main thing that most Brazilian and in general South American footballers are known for, we quickly reach the matter of dribbling, as South Americans truly know how to dribble and amaze the crowd with their skills.

One of the notable skill moves and showboating styles that the Brazilian is known for constantly using, is the rainbow flick feint, which helps him get the ball over the opposition defenders’ heads as he quickly cuts through everyone in his way, either getting the chance to put the ball into the back of the net, or diving in hopes of getting an important free kick.

While it is mentioned that he is primarily a right-footed player, Neymar is comfortable with both feet and is more than capable of using his left foot and even his head to add another to the score line, which is something one might expect from someone who has put

, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andres Iniesta and

as his sources of inspiration.

With such a talented exciting prospect in the making, many of the footballing greats have had their say on what kind of a player Neymar is and what kind of a footballer he is to become. Many such as the legendary Ronaldo Nazario and Ronaldinho, two of the greatest footballers to ever set foot on the pitch, had previously claimed that Neymar was to become the next best thing to happen in football, as he was seen to be the one replacing Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But it seems that the Argentinian and his all-time Portuguese competitor have had other things in mind, as both have continued performing at the highest level possible, even outperforming Neymar in many respects. While the praises have kept coming for the Brazilian forward, he is ironically criticized more often than he has been praised, especially due to his constant “fake” diving that has left the fans and everyone else frustrated with how he falls to the ground with the simplest of touches, which has even left Eric Cantona to consider Neymar to be a “great actor”.

Goal celebration

Modern day footballers have found a new hobby of creating new and fun ways of celebrating their goals, which not only boosts their morale and confidence, but it also boosts their so called “cool” level, improving their social status.

As a player who scores a plethora of goals, Neymar has had to create different ways of celebrating his goals, as many footballers tend go towards using different moves instead of sticking to a simple move of pointing upwards. The Brazilian has had quite iconic celebration moves, from his “hush, quiet” one, to the boot on the head or his iconic “hang loose” celebration.

Neymar outside football

For those who are interested in getting to know about Neymar biography facts outside of his career as a footballer, it is worth mentioning that the former Barcelona man has been an active and quite successful icon outside of football over the years, with him appearing on the North American versions of Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 and 2013 covers, while also featuring on EA Sports’ FIFA 19 Ultimate Edition pack alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

He also became the first Athlete from Brazil to appear on the cover of Time magazine. Another noteworthy and quite strange fact about the footballer is that he is the main character of a Monica and Friends comic book, although the character is a younger version of Neymar himself. Aside from appearing on certain magazines, books and video game covers, he is also active in promoting Brazilian modern pop music, making cameo appearances in several music videos, even appearing on a rap music video as well.

With the industry of gaming and video games in general improving and widening every day, many of the footballers such as

, have started their very own streaming channels, where they play various video games while streaming online. Neymar too has his own streaming channel, on which he streams his gaming sessions from video games such as Call of Duty and Counter Striker: Global Offensive.

Neymar personal life

There are several topics to be discussed in Neymar biography, which are related to his personal life. One of the topics relates to his finances, money-related issues and sponsorship deals, whose numbers are rising every year, considering how famous a player he is. Numerous companies including Nike, Puma, Panasonic, Volkswagen, Lupo, Ambev, Claro and Santander also are on the list of Neymar’s previous or current sponsors, who have had to splash the cash to sign a contract with the Brazilian talent.

Aside from financial matters in Neymar’s personal life, there are also other more personal matters that need mentioning. Follow us below for more information on

Family, children and relationships

Born to Nadine and Neymar Santos Sr., Neymar Jr. is sometimes regarded as childish and a playboy rather than a family man. But he is in fact a father, as he welcomed his son Davi Lucca into the world on 13 August 2011. His former girlfriend Carloina Dantas is the woman with whom Neymar had his son. Of course he does still keep his playboy status, having dated numerous women over the years.

Philanthropy

As mentioned before, Neymar is a religious footballer, following the Pentecostal branch of Christianity, which has resulted in him tithing his income to his church, following the footsteps of his religious role model Kaka, who is also a religious person. Not only does the Brazilian donate a significant portion of his income to the church of Christ, he also takes part in several charity matches in order to raise money and prepare food for those in need, as he even has his very own annual charity match with Fluminense winger Nene.

Legal disputes

With as much fame as Neymar has, he is bound to be sucked into the world of legal disputes, as people look for ways to abuse the justice system in order to get their hands on what they desire. He was in fact the subject of a rape investigation in 2019 as he had allegedly been involved in a rape incident. But just like Cristiano Ronaldo’s case, his case too was dropped. The court deemed the evidence brought into the case to be insufficient and Neymar was cleared of any allegations.

Neymar career statistics

Here are the Brazilian forward’s stats during his career both at club and international level.

Neymar has played for three clubs during his professional career, starting his early days with Santos FC in Brazil. At Santos, the versatile forward got to make 134 appearances over the course of four seasons, as he managed to score an impressive 70 goals and provide 35 assists in those appearances, which put him on the map of every elite club in Europe.

Later he joined

and got to be redeployed as a left winger rather than a center-forward. He made a total of 186 appearances for La Blaugrana, scoring an outstanding 105 goals, while adding 76 assists in the process. His journey has not yet come to an end, as he is improving his stats with every chance that he gets at Paris Saint-Germain.

For PSG, he has made less than 100 appearances, but has still been able to score an overall 79 goals and provide 46 assists. Of course his stats will be improving further on as he has got many years ahead of himself.

International

Neymar has been an absolute star for his country, being the one that makes the difference at most of the international matches. Even though he has not been able to help his team to a World Cup, he has still managed to make 103 appearances for the Brazil national team over the years, scoring a phenomenal 64 goals and providing a further outstanding 43 assists in those games. These numbers are surely going to improve as the Brazilian has only just peaked in his career, despite constant injuries keeping him on the sidelines.

Neymar honors

As someone who has played at some of the finely decorated clubs in the world, Neymar has won his fair share of trophies over the years. He managed to win the 2010/11 Copa Libertadores and the 2011/12 Recopa Sudamericana trophy, alongside with the Brazilian Cup during his time at Santos FC. He has also won the Champions League, two

titles, three Copas del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, thee UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup with Barcelona.

Of course it does not end with these trophies, as his trophy cabinet is filled with three Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France torphies, two Coupe de la Ligue trophies and two French Super Cups, while also being an Olympic medalist after winning the 2015/16 Olympic medal with

. Additionally, he has won the 2013 Confederations Cup with Brazil as well.

His trophy cabinet is full of numerous individual honors as well, which include the following: Copa Libertadores MVP, FIFA Club World Cup Bronze Ball, South American Footballer of the Year, 2011 FIFA Puskas Award, FIFA Confederations Cup Golden Ball, FIFA Confederations Cup Bronze Shoe, 2014 FIFA World Cup Bronze Boot, 2015 and 2017 FIFA FIFPro WorldXI. OF course these are only some of his individual awards as there are many other honors as well.

Key Facts & Information

  • Born Neymar da Silva Santos Jr. on February 5, 1992 in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, Brazil , he is the son of Nadine da Silva and Neymar Sr., a former professional football player.
  • Neymar Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps by playing football on the streets and futsal, an indoor version of the sport. He then joined the Portuguesa Santista youth club in 1999, where his skills were acknowledged, and later became the country’s most highly regarded young football talent.

YOUNG BLOOD

  • At age 11, Neymar joined Santos FC and news of his ability reached Europe, with Real Madrid C.F. offering him an opportunity to develop his football skills when he turned 14. However, Santos’ management reportedly convinced Neymar to stay by offering him a large bonus.
  • Young Neymar made his senior debut for Santos FC in 2009 and lived up to expectations as he was awarded the league’s Best Young Player. A year later he emerged as a superstar, helping Santos win the league and Copa do Brasil championships en route to the first of three straight titles and 4 straight Player of the Year awards.
  • That same season, he made his debut with the senior national team and sported a Mohawk-style haircut, which immediately gained the attention and love of younger football fans.
  • In 2011, the snazzy forward scoredwhat would be voted the FIFA Goal of the Year and led his team to its first Copa Libertadores championship in 48 years.
  • Neymar scored his 100th professional goal on his 20th birthday in 2012 and finished the year with a career-best total of 43. Although Santos won its third straight league title, the young star was subject to criticism when Brazil lost the 2012 Summer Olympics gold-medal game to an underdog Mexico team.

FROM BRAZIL TO BARCELONA

  • In May 2013, the Brazilian superstar announced he was making the leap to Europe with a shift to FC Barcelona, a dynamic club that featured Argentine star striker Lionel Messi and several members of the Spanish national team.
  • Neymar lived up to his hype playing with Barcelona, giving the domineering Spanish club yet another gifted versatile talent, and scored 39 goals during the 2014-15 season, helping the club claim the league, domestic and European Cup titles. The following year, a week after Barcelona won La Liga, he scored in extra time to push the club to another Copa del Rey title.

WORLD CUP STINT

  • Neymar’s performance flared during the 2014 World Cup on his home turf, but was cut short before the final.
  • On July 4, minutes before Brazil’s quarterfinal win against Colombia , the wunderkind broke a bone in his back resulting from a challenge by Colombian defender Juan Zuniga.
  • With their star player sidelined, Brazil’s chances of winning the title ended when they lost to Germany in the semifinals.
  • For all his individual brilliance, Neymar still faced the question of whether he could lift his teammates to glory on the international stage, as he was suspended during the 2015 Copa America, effectively quashing Brazil’s chances of making an extended run.
  • The following year, he decided to sit out of the tournament to stay rested and healthy as he prepared for the 2016 Rio Olympics , a move that worked wonders: Neymar delivered several key goals to help his team, before scoring the winning penalty kick to give Brazil its first men’s football gold medal.
  • The Brazilians again faced high expectations heading into the 2018 World Cup, but Neymar’s return from a broken foot ultimately wasn’t enough, as a tight quarterfinal match against Belgium ended in a 2-1 loss.

THE TRANSFER TO PARIS

  • In 2017, Paris Saint-Germain sent shockwaves through Europe when they signed the Brazilian in an astonishing, record-shattering £198m deal, a contract that would run until 2022.
  • He was offered the number 10 jersey as a “welcome gift”.
