1.3.9 Practice - Complete Your Assignment

Write about events from your own life using a simple plot. Your true story should try to achieve some kind of purpose, such as moving the reader emotionally or showing what's wrong with society. Your assignment should also have a narrow enough focus that you can tell the entire story in under one thousand words.

Your story should include the following elements:

  • An exposition, rising action, a climax, and a conclusion
  • Careful, pacing that guides the reader from one event to the next
  • Transitions to signal shifts in time, mood, and topic

Answer & Explanation

Name: Discovering My Voice

Exposition:

I had always been quiet and reticent as a child. I found it difficult to voice my ideas and beliefs since I had to continually hide behind other people. It was a difficult living because I yearned to be understood. when a result, I promised myself when I started high school that I would discover my voice and end my self-imposed quiet.

Ascending Action:

I intentionally looked for chances to push myself because I was determined to get past my reservations. I joined the debate team at school in the hopes that honing the craft of persuasion would give me more assurance in my own convictions. I had a hard time speaking out during arguments at first, but with each repetition, my voice became louder and stronger.

Our debate squad received an invitation to take part in a regional competition one day. The subject was racial injustice, and the theme was social justice. Even though I am a person of color, this subject really spoke to me, but I had never felt comfortable discussing it in public. This was my opportunity to influence things.

I listened to all sides' arguments throughout the discussion. I felt a fire start inside of me every time someone said anything that reinforced preconceptions or trivialized the problem. I got to my feet as my heart was racing and countered. My colleagues as well as myself were surprised when my voice came through loud and clear. I persisted in vehemently advocating for justice and equality, using both my own life experiences and academic studies to back up my arguments.

Conclusion:

Everything for me suddenly altered at that point. I came to understand the value of standing out for what I believed in and the influence that speaking up might have on others. I no longer felt the need to remain quiet or cover anything.

Since that time, I have fought for social justice by utilizing my voice to educate others, dispel myths, and advance equality. I made a point of using my words and actions to change lives, whether it was at school, in the neighborhood, or online.

It was not an easy path to find my voice. To get past my shyness and self-doubt, it takes patience, guts, and tenacity. But I found a new sense of purpose and joy by embracing my abilities and the issues I'm passionate about.

I now advise those who feel silenced to discover their own voices. I am aware of the difficulties they encounter and am personally familiar with the benefits of speaking up. By speaking out, we can bring about a better society that is more inclusive and fair, question cultural conventions, and bring about constructive change. We have the ability to change the world with every word we speak, and it all begins with discovering our own voice.

The Search for My Voice as Its Title

The Situation:

I was a timid and reticent child throughout my whole life. I found it difficult to articulate my ideas and perspectives, and I often retreated into the shadows cast by others. My life was full of disappointment since I couldn't express myself the way I wanted to. As a result, when I started junior high school, I vowed to myself that I would finally find my voice and end the solitude that I had forced upon myself.

Accelerating Activity:

I was so intent on conquering my fears that I went out of my way to find situations in which I could test myself. I joined the school debate team in the hopes that being more skilled in the art of persuasion would assist me in developing more self-assurance in my own opinions. At first, I found it challenging to speak out during arguments; but, as I got more and more experience, my voice became more confident and assertive.

The culmination:

One day, our debate squad received an invitation to take part in a competition at a regional level. The overall issue was social justice, and I was tasked with writing on racial inequality in the United States. This was a subject that struck a chord with me on a deep level as a person of color; nonetheless, I had never been one to speak freely about it. This was my opportunity to make a change in the world.

Throughout the course of the discussion, I paid attention to the points that were provided by both sides. My anger erupted inside me every time I heard someone make a remark that reinforced preconceived notions or dismissed the seriousness of the situation. In spite of the rapid beating of my heart, I had the courage to speak out and provide a rebuttal. Not only did my colleagues and I find it remarkable that my voice came out clear and steady, but I too found it shocking. I never stopped fighting ardently for equality and justice, gaining support for my arguments from both my own experiences and the findings of my study.

Concluding remarks:

At that same instant, my whole life was turned upside down. I became aware of the strength of my voice, the influence it had on other people, and the significance of standing up for the things in which I believed. I no longer had the sensation that I needed to conceal myself or keep quiet.

After that day, I decided to devote my life to fighting for social justice and use my platform to call attention to important issues, dispel misconceptions, and advance equality. I always tried to create a positive impact via the things that I said and did, whether it was at my place of employment, in my neighborhood, or even online.

The path I took to find my voice was not an easy one. It took some time, effort, and commitment on my part before I was able to overcome my shyness and mistrust in myself. But I was able to develop a new sense of purpose and satisfaction by embracing both my abilities and the issues that I am passionate about.

Now, I want to help other people who had the same experience as me to develop their own voice. I have an understanding of the difficulties they confront, and I have personal experience with the benefits that may result from breaking free from silence. We have the ability to bring about good change, to question the conventions of society, and to make the world a more equitable and inclusive place simply by using our voices. We have the ability to create a change with every word that comes out of our mouths, and it all begins with discovering our own unique voices.
