An Event in School Essay

A school organises many events where students can participate. These events help the students to discover their talents. It is always a happy and memorable moment to participate in these events.

My favourite event is the Annual Function. It is organised in the month of September in my school. This year I participated in Drama. The event name was “The Mirage”. It told the story of a Fisherman and his greedy wife. I played the role of a Golden Mermaid. On that day, our teachers asked us to do makeup at home and then come to school.

All the drama students were then given the costumes. We all then went to the backstage. The event began after the parents took their seats.

First, the prizes were distributed to the students. I got a certificate for holding second position in Essay writing competition. Then our Principal announced on the stage that the story – ‘The Mirage’ will begin. The story began and after that a dance performance took place. I was standing in the stage wing because after the performance it was my chance to go on the stage.

I went and spoke my dialogues. When I came back, my teacher patted my back and said that she loved my performance. We were then given the refreshments at the backstage. We also played games with our teachers.

After a song performance, a photograph was clicked of all the participants on stage. In the end, our Principal congratulated the students and the teachers who were in charge. After that, we all went to meet our parents. I introduced my parents to my teachers. Then we changed our costumed. It was a wonderful event. I will cherish it forever.

Response From Leslie Servin

During my time in high school I had it really good moments, but my best moments that I’ve experienced are in a particular class during my senior year, in Sacramento, Calif. So I was basically a new student in these kind of classes and also I’m English learner. I remember my first presentation in this class. I didn’t want to do it, but finally I did it and that one was my best moment. When I went to present I felt afraid, and then when I presented I felt so good for the effort I applied on. Now I feel so much better than my first day of presentations because I now know that I can do whatever I want to do. The learnings that I acquire made it so good this moment because I know that I have to trust on me. Something teachers or students can learn from my experience is that we have to overcome our fears and not let them control ourselves because we can’t know our capabilities if we are afraid.

Something teachers or

Response From Jesneel Singh

The best moment in class was when I was in 9th grade in sixth period. That was when I got into poetry and spoken word. Having that “character and scene” class made my life even greater. Not knowing anything about poetry, hating on poems about reading and writing it in the past. That class was fun in many ways. For example; there was this one time where we had to write our own plays and poems and perform them in front of the class. I felt alive, and the creative side of me came out. When I wrote my first poem in freshman year. I realized that it was fun and unique. I felt like I wanted to write more and more. When I performed my first poem to that class I found my passion. Since that day and today I have written over 400 poems and made two books. I have performed on many stages in small audience and in school. That was a good day for me because I can write my thoughts down and write the truth about the world. Teachers and students can learn from this experience that, you can find what best fits you.

There was this one time

Response From Nancy Ramirez

I would say my best class moment would be from my sophomore year in high school. For my Spanish class, our teacher decided we would do a class circle (Editor’s note: see “How To Practice Restorative Justice in Schools” for more information on class circles) for the day. She asked us a sequence of questions which required us to give a more in depth and heartfelt answer each time, starting with something along the lines of “How are you feeling?” and ending with “Why do you think that is?” A class circle which only should have lasted one day extended to three, with each and every single one of us having to share our deepest and darkest fears and insecurities. By then it felt more than just a class and opened my eyes to very different ways of teaching styles. I believe there is much to learn from this experience, both then and now. I have come to deeply appreciate not only the class but the teacher as well. This experience showed me the extent a relationship with your classmates and your teacher can go....

Response From Oscar Salazar

The best moment I’ve ever experienced in school was last year when I was a sophomore. I took biology last year and towards the end of the year we got to dissect a fetal pig. I know that it sounds gross but it’s really not. That’s what I thought at first too. I did lots of fun experiments in that class that were new to me, such as making a small ecosystem in a bottle and dissecting owl pellets to find mouse skeletons. I think that these experiences were really fun and interesting. I’ve never done anything like that in a class before.

I think that when teachers introduce students to hands-on activities and projects the students enjoy it more. Since we have more energy it’s a good use of it. We learn better when we’re allowed to move around and be creative. Our lives aren’t going to be pen on paper or books forever. It’s best to get us students to explore the world using our skills that we learn and strengthen our understanding of daily life that is sometimes hidden from us and exposed to us abruptly once we turn into adults.

I think that when

Response From Kayla Guzman

What has been my best moment in a class? I’ve had many great moments but perhaps the most best moment took place in my English class about a month ago. I had a 10-15 minute presentation and I felt pretty confident. 30 minutes before my presentation I decided to incorporate an actor for visual appeal, to correspond with my presentation. I felt even more confident, assure that I would captivate the audience’s attention and keep them engaged. When my presentation started, I gave a signal to my actor which led me to drop my 8 notecards all over the floor. I was aware that the time was ticking, so I quickly grabbed all the notecards off the floor. I became overwhelmed with embarrassment, listening to the echoing laughter of the audience as I tried to rearrange the cards. The cards in my hand then became extremely restraining. My anxiety levels rose, and the disorganized cards just added stress to my emotions. I placed the cards down, and felt a great sense of relieve. My words, my explanations, my connections all flowed out my mouth with harmony, and I felt more natural and free as I presented my topic.

My presentation was a diagnosis of a character with schizophrenia, explaining the symptoms and the reasoning behind my diagnosis. The movement of my hands and my exaggeration presented by a drive of passion, along with my visual representative, kept the audience captive. I felt like a completely different person. By the end of the presentation I was sweaty, not by nervousness but because I left it all on the floor. I realized that the key to presenting with people is not getting their attention just by visual appeal. You need to let your heart pour out so that you can captivate their hearts, reach their souls. You can’t just be the center of attention, you need to give the audience attention, you need to talk to them. First and foremost, you can’t present without emotions. Anything you present should be built off of passion. As long as you can find a connection between yourself and the topic and exude your passion, you will keep the audience engaged.

You should say:, when it happened, what was good about it, why you particularly remember this event.

The enjoyable moment at school, to everyone school days, is considered as the best days of their life. That day is not forgotten lifetime. They remember the memories for the rest of their life. I also have numerous memories of my school days and I really miss that day very much who fully enjoyable days with friends. Mostly that day when I got caught for school bunking. Recently I have passed my college. Now I am waiting for University admission. I am continuing my study at the University When I sit for studying the University admission materials,

But My past days appear before my eyes. I start missing the days When I was twelve and thirteen year age not more than fourteen. There were some other students with me. We had formed a group. All of the group members used to occupy the last benches. Thus we were named as the “backbenches.” Our class teachers call to backbenches students.

Most of the time the problem in the class was created by us. But the teachers did not punish us Because teacher knows to us that student is very naughty and mischief. After any problem, It became a policy of teachers that they would ask a question about our study related But we did not answer. They could not punish us. But when we are participating in circular activities then teachers surprised to see them. and said to you are very gentle in circular activities. When I remember the event, today I laugh out loud. All of the backbenches were beaten by their parents and  I also had the share. I beating starting in the class then our teacher’s tell to the principal and also go in the principal’s room and ended in the residences.

When I remember the event now, I feel now childish It was in those days. In fact, everyone was childish in their school days.

A memorable event from your school days.

You may say

  • What was the memorable event?
  • Why it was memorable?
  • Why memorable event is happened in school days?

Sample Answer 1

School days are a source of nostalgia for me as myriads of memories come rushing back, changing my mood completely. One such happy memory was when the whole school, except the junior section, was taken to watch a movie, Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban.

[do_widget id=custom_html-22]

When I think about it now, I understand what a hectic day it might have been for the teachers. But, we were having the time of our lives. You might be thinking about what is so special about going to the theatres. Well, ten to twelve years back, it meant a huge thing because until we reached a certain age, we were allowed to go out with our friends unsupervised. So, although we had to sit according to our roll numbers after the lights went off, we quickly shifted to our seats among our close friends. Although I am a Potterhead and would not miss a scene for anything in the world, sitting beside my friends and gossiping about the movie felt worthwhile.

Well, memorable things usually happen with or around people or things you love. The school was a time in our lives when we still retained our innocence even though there were numerous diversions around us. Friends, study, sports and simple things mean more than money and peace, which we lack when we grow up. So, I guess, as our mind is free from worldly corruption and our eyes are filled with dreams and aspirations for the future, we have the most unforgettable time of our life during this phase

Sample Answer 2

Several memorable events happened in my life to be recalled and discussed. However, out of all that, I want to discuss one of my unforgettable moments during my higher secondary section. I used to bunk Biology practical classes in 12th standard.

The reason for bunking was foolish yet relevant to describe to all of you. My best friends and I always tried to escape the oral questions classes asked in the classroom. Dr. Jonathan was the faculty of Biology. Every time, during the weekly assessment, he used to mark for regular class activity and attendance. Frequently, he called out my friend’s name due to the considerable gap in her attendance sheet and asked her to bring her parents. As we were partners in crime, I had to get my parents too. Every month, my parents had to refuse the request for a parent’s meeting as they were of the reason, which annoyed them. One day, I got berated for my class performance as missing classes took a toll on my results. Eventually, my mother found out and chastised me so much that I stopped bunking my classes from that time onwards. In fact, my cell phone was also taken away from me. But, his class was so exhausting and tedious that I began to take a power nap in the middle of the course.

During school days, we all get time to enjoy ourselves with our friends and by involving in different things. Though I had bunked lots of Bio classes, I scored the highest marks in the end-term exam. Therefore, we must enjoy our school life with full freedom and focus on our studies as well.

  • Assessment: the action of assessing someone or something. Eg: The interviewers have given a very tough assessment.
  • Relevant: closely connected or appropriate to what is being done or considered. Eg: The answers were not relevant to the question.
  • Bunk: To absent oneself or leave early from something (usually school or work) when one would normally be required to be there Eg: He always  bunks classes.
  • Annoyed; feeling or showing angry irritation Eg: Her parents were annoyed by her academic performance.

My school conducts sports day every year. It takes place in the month of November every year. Each year, all the classes present different acts to the audience. As per the class, the acts are chosen.

The preparations begin two months earlier so that students can perfect their act. We get extra time to practice for the sports day. It also helps to cut down on some academic studying which everyone enjoys.

All of us practice in the sun and try to perfect our moves. On the final day, we all invite our parents to watch us perform our act. The parents come excitedly and watch and film their children perform harmoniously with the other students.

Moreover, there are also marathons and walkathons which are very interesting to watch. It happens on the basis of the division of houses. The most number of wins in my school have been procured by the blue house.

During the IELTS Speaking Part 2 exam, you will be given a task card on a specific topic that will feature key points that you should cover. The card is also known as the ‘cue card’.

This section allows you to discuss a single topic for a longer period.

You will have 60 seconds to plan how you will address the subject. To take notes, you will be provided a piece of paper and a pencil.

You will be expected to speak for 1-2 minutes before the examiner asks you one or two questions on the same topic.

The IELTS Cue Card Section takes around 3-4 minutes.

Topic/ Question

Describe an Event that You Recently Attended

Guidelines to answer this question

You should say:

  • What event it was
  • When and where it was
  • Who else was there

And explain what and how you felt that time.

  • Think of the event that you have attended recently. It could be any event, but you have to make sure that you have a vivid recollection of that event. If you haven’t been to an event recently, it could be any other event you attended a long time ago. The examiner will not know.
  • The moment you have picked an event, stick with it. Because you just have 60 seconds to prepare your speech, you do not have much time to change your mind.
  • Start taking notes. Write what event it was and when and where it was held. Describe the mood and ambiance during that time and discuss who the attendees were. Do not forget to explain how you felt during that time.
  • Because you have limited time to prepare, do not write sentences. To save time, simply write keywords and phrases.
  • Use sophisticated vocabulary and challenging grammar structures extensively. This will amaze the examiner and eventually help you score high in this part of the test.
  • Take notes rapidly, but make sure you understand what you have written later. What and how you have written on your notes does not matter to the examiner. What is important are the content of your speech and how you deliver it.
  • Take the time to look through your notes from time to time. This is done to guarantee that you cover everything you want to cover. The examiner will not forbid you from doing so.

Sample Responses: “Describe an Event that You Recently Attended”

“My neighbor invited me to a meeting at our town hall around three months ago. The local community council organized it so that residents could express their views on a proposed plan to establish a new sports center in the neighborhood. There were around 250 people in total that attended; local government representatives, as well as members of the community.

It was intriguing since many people had quite diverse perspectives on the matter. Some believed it would be a fantastic idea, while others were completely opposed to it. Some people were concerned that the construction process would disrupt their lives and cause traffic problems, while others believed that the money budgeted for the project should be spent on improving other services, such as the local health center or educational services, rather than providing more sports facilities.

They contended that because the town already has soccer fields, tennis courts, and a swimming pool, there was no need to construct additional sporting facilities that only a small percentage of the community would ever utilize. Spending the money on health care or education, on the other hand, would benefit practically everyone in the community.

Anyway, that was their main point of contention. People who supported the project thought it was a good idea since it would provide a safe area for younger residents to hang out, rather than on the streets. Someone else suggested that if people performed more sport or exercise, they would be healthier and that, in the long run, would be an advantage since they would not need to use health services as frequently.

The event was significant, I believe, because it allowed everyone in the community who was interested to discuss the proposed project, express their opinions, and ask questions directly to the people involved, architects and representatives from the various government departments that would be involved, people like that.

After hearing so many people come out against the idea, I’m sure the local authorities will have a lot to think about. I believe it is critical that those in charge consider the perspectives of those who will ultimately use or not use the facilities, but they will all be paying for it through their taxes.”

Follow-up Question 1:

Do you like attending public meetings?

“Absolutely! I love to express my thoughts and points of view about current issues, especially when I think it would help others. I also love hearing what others have to say as I get to understand where they are coming from.”

Follow-up Question 2:

Should children be allowed to attend public meetings?

“In my opinion, I believe that they should be allowed in public meetings, only if the issue being raised would benefit them. I think that it is their right to voice out what they think and feel, and besides, we’ll never know how bright their ideas could sometimes be. However, in situations where the topics being discussed are sensitive and not appropriate for them, they should not be allowed to attend.”

“I’ve attended a lot of gatherings in my life. But I’d like to write about a birthday party that I thoroughly loved.  It was my younger brother’s eighteenth birthday party, which I threw for him just a couple of weeks ago. My parents were also on board with this plan.

We invited a couple of his close friends and family members. I decorated our home with buntings and balloons after my brother went to college that morning. The cake was prepared and iced by my mother. In fact, she is an excellent cook and baker. For the guests, I ordered fritters, spring rolls, sandwiches, and pastries. I even planned some activities like musical chairs, treasure hunts, and passing the letter.

When my brother returned home that day, we were all waiting for him. We greeted him by playing the birthday song. Everyone applauded as they wished him a happy birthday. He was pleasantly surprised and overjoyed. I could tell by the look on his face. He then cut the cake, and we all ate cake and snacks. After that, we played the games. Everyone had a great time.

I gave my brother a cell phone. He had always wanted one, but my parents refused to allow him to buy one. I had always sensed his need for a phone, so I had planned to give him one for his birthday. He received several other gifts as well, but my gift was the most meaningful to him. That day, we all danced a lot. I was overjoyed. I have come to realize that true happiness is found in making others happy. My brother is really important to me. May he have a long and happy life!”

Follow-up Question 1:

Do you like surprise birthday parties?

“It depends. If I am the one throwing the surprise party, just like what I did for my younger brother, yes, I do love them. I love the planning and all the other things that come with it, but what I enjoy the most is the feeling I get when I can make the people around me happy. However, if I am the one being surprised, I am not sure if I would be enjoying it because I am afraid I might disappoint the people behind it for something I might not like.”

Follow-up Question 2:

What are your thoughts about parties and events that serve alcohol?

“To be honest, I absolutely have no problem with parties and events serving alcohol. I do understand that most people enjoy having them at parties. I know that it can cause commotions and for those who need to drive after, could be dangerous. But, at the end of the day, it all boils down to being responsible and disciplined. I myself drink once in a while, but I do know when to stop.”

Below are some terms from the sample responses for the cue card topic ‘ Describe an event that you recently attended .’ with their definitions and example sentences for your reference.

Speaking Sample: Talk About A Musical Event You Enjoyed Attending

by Manjusha Nambiar · February 11, 2014

During the second part of the IELTS Speaking Test, you need to talk about a topic for one or two minutes. You will be given a minute to prepare some notes before you speak.

Here is a speaking sample.

Talk about a musical event you have enjoyed attending

Sample response

A musical event I enjoyed attending was an opera. It was a presentation of La Boheme and it took place at the Sydney Opera House. There are several reasons why I enjoyed the event. First of all, it was the very first opera I watched in my life. I went to Australia as part of my student exchange project and got a chance to see my sister Aditi who lives there. During this visit I also met some of her friends. They were all very nice people. We went together to watch the opera. I was quite excited about getting an opportunity to visit the Sydney Opera House. In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed their company. It was great fun going to a new place with people I felt comfortable with.

The music was great, but that was not the only reason I enjoyed the event. I absolutely loved the building and its surroundings. It is located in a beautiful place. The round roofs are an architectural marvel. They look like waves. The best thing about the building is the acoustics. It is incredible.

Watching the opera was a magical experience. I enjoyed it so much. It was a very special moment for me to watch an opera on the stage for the first time. Those memories will stay with me for a long time.

I Love My School Carnival

I am studying in a mission school. Our school carnival is held in February. This is the best time for organizing this event as we can enjoy it before the commencement of our exams. This event is considered to be the last event of the academic year for us. Our school organizes this event every year with a motive. The school management has to raise funds for education and helping poor people. They collected a massive amount and donated it to poor people. The school had a noble cause behind arranging this event and therefore many people visited the fest.

Different Activities in our School Carnival

The starting of the carnival takes place with a welcome dance and speech of the principal. Some reputed personalities are invited as our chief guests and the inauguration of the carnival is done by the chief guest only.

Many stalls are set by different classes. There were twenty-five stalls in our school carnival. Twelve were related to games and the rest thirteen had a variety of food and snacks. There were many games like fishing, shooting, etc. The food items in the stalls had the dishes of different states of India. At one place we can get the taste of different states. The students of the higher standard had stalls with computers and video games. At the end of the day, the best performing stall is awarded some prize money or gift hamper.

School Carnival – The Result of Proper Planning and Co-ordination

There is proper planning before the event to be organized. Several teams are made to handle different activities and are headed by the team in charge. Few teachers handle the responsibility to check the proper execution of the plan. Teachers of various classes choose the students for their help. Many students are chosen as volunteers. The discussion about different ideas for activities is carried out by teachers and the best ones are finalized.

Essay on Fun Fair

Students are often asked to write an essay on Fun Fair in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on Fun Fair

What is a fun fair.

A fun fair is a large outdoor event with rides, games, and food stands. It’s a place where people, especially families and kids, go to enjoy and have a good time. The air is filled with laughter and the smell of tasty treats.

Rides and Games

At a fun fair, you can find exciting rides like the Ferris wheel and roller coasters. There are also games where you can win prizes. Trying to knock over bottles or fishing for ducks are common fun fair games.

Food at the Fun Fair

Fun fairs are famous for their delicious snacks. You can eat cotton candy, popcorn, and hot dogs. These treats are part of what makes a visit to the fun fair so special.

Fun Fair Memories

People love fun fairs because they create happy memories. The joy of winning a game or the thrill of a ride stays with you long after the fair has left town.

250 Words Essay on Fun Fair

A fun fair is a large outdoor event with rides, games, and food stalls. It is like a big party in an open space where families and friends can spend time together and enjoy various activities. People of all ages can find something interesting to do at a fun fair.

One of the main attractions at a fun fair is the rides. There are fast rides that spin you around and make your heart beat faster, and there are gentler ones for those who like a calmer experience. The Ferris wheel, which is a big wheel with seats that go up high into the sky, is a favorite for many because it gives a great view of the entire fair.

Games and Prizes

Games are another fun part of the fair. You can try your luck at winning a prize by playing different types of games. Some games require skill, like throwing a ball into a hoop, while others are based on chance. Winning a prize, like a stuffed animal or a toy, can be a highlight of the day.

Yummy Foods

No fun fair is complete without delicious food. There are many treats to choose from, such as cotton candy, popcorn, and hot dogs. These sweet and savory snacks add to the joy of the day and make the fair experience even more memorable.

Bringing People Together

Fun fairs bring people together. It’s a time when laughter and smiles fill the air. Friends meet, families bond, and new friendships can begin. The fun fair is not just about the rides and games; it’s about creating happy memories that last a lifetime.

500 Words Essay on Fun Fair

A fun fair is a large outdoor event where families and friends can enjoy various activities together. It’s like a big playground that moves from place to place. The fair includes rides like the Ferris wheel, which takes you up high into the sky, and the merry-go-round with its galloping horses. There are also games where you can try your luck to win prizes, and lots of different foods to taste.

One of the main attractions at a fun fair is the rides. They are designed to give you a rush of excitement. The roller coaster is a popular one that zooms down tracks at high speed, making you scream with joy and a bit of fear. For those who prefer something calmer, the bumper cars allow you to drive around and ‘bump’ into friends without getting into trouble. These rides are safe because the people who run the fair check them every day to make sure everything is working right.

Games at the fun fair test your skills and give you a chance to win toys and other goodies. You might throw a ball to knock down a stack of cans or use a big hammer to hit a target that rings a bell. The games are challenging but fair, and everyone gets a chance to win. When you do win, it feels great to pick out a prize, like a big stuffed animal or a cool poster.

Food at the Fair

The smells of the fun fair are amazing. You can find all sorts of treats, from sweet cotton candy that melts in your mouth to hot, salty popcorn that goes “pop” when it cooks. There’s also corn on the cob, dripping with butter, and hot dogs with all kinds of toppings. Some fairs even have special foods that you can’t find anywhere else, like deep-fried candy bars or brightly colored slushies.

The Atmosphere
