However, while presentation software has been traditionally limited to text and images, it has widened its ability to work with different media such as video and audio .

Therefore it's important for the best presentation software to not simply be easy and simple to use, but also be able to support additional media so that presentations can be more engaging, lively, and ultimately serve their purpose in educating and updating their intended audience.

Below we've listed the best presentation software currently on the market.

Microsoft PowerPoint website screenshot

1. PowerPoint

Our expert review:

Reasons to buy

For most people, Microsoft 's PowerPoint remains the original and best of all the presentation software platforms out there. While other companies have managed to catch up and offer rival products worthy of consideration, the fact is that PowerPoint's familiar interface and ubiquitous availability means it remains a favorite for the majority of people.

On the one hand, it's long been a staple of the hugely popular Microsoft Office suite, meaning that for most users this is going to be the first - and last - presentation software they are going to need to use.

Additionally, Microsoft has made PowerPoint, along with their other office products, available as free apps (with limited functionality) on both iOS and Android for mobile use, meaning it's even harder to avoid them. And this is before we even consider the inclusion of PowerPoint in Microsoft's cloud-based Microsoft 365.

It does everything necessary that you'd expect of presentation software, allowing you to add text and media to a series of slides, to accompany a talk and other presentations. There are easy-to-use templates included to help spice things up a little, but even a general user with little experience of it is likely to find themselves able to use PowerPoint without much trouble at all.

Overall, it's hard to go wrong with PowerPoint, and although Microsoft 365 has a nominal cost, the apps are free to use even if they do have more limited functionality.

Reasons to avoid.

Branding says a lot about a business, and it’s something firms need to get right from day one – from a good logo to a suitable font. CustomShow is business presentation software that puts all these elements of branding first.

Using the system, you can design and present customized, branded presentations that reflect your company and the products you offer, featuring the aforementioned logo and custom fonts. As well as this, you get a slide library and analytics to ensure your presentations are a success.

What’s more, you can import presentations into the software, and use it to tweak them further. There’s also integration with SalesForce , and because the platform is cloud-based, you can access your presentations on computers, tablets, and smartphones.

Considering the focus on branding, this offering could be good for marketing and sales teams, and it's used by major companies such as HBO and CBS Interactive.

ClearSlide website screenshot

3. ClearSlide

Just like CustomShow, ClearSlide has a niche focus for companies. The platform is targeted at firms looking to generate successful marketing campaigns, pushing sales via presentations (and more), not least through a range of analytics and metrics to work for sales and marketing.

With the product, you can upload a range of files, including PowerPoint, Keynote, PDF, and Excel. ClearSlide is integrated with other platforms, including Google Drive, Dropbox, and Salesforce.

This system is pretty complex and may offer too many irrelevant features for some businesses, but you can create customized content that reflects your company and the message you’re trying to get out to customers. There are also some good metrics and analysis features, and you can sign up for a free trial before making any decisions.

The real strength of ClearSlide comes from its focus on sales and marketing data, not least being able to track user engagement alongside other metrics.

Haiku Deck website screenshot

4. Haiku Deck

Any presentation app will allow you to personalize your slides to at least some extent, but Haiku Deck goes one step further than the competition. It comes with a wide range of themes suited to different needs, and you also get access to 40 million free images from the Creative Commons collection.

When it comes to creating a presentation, you have the option to do so on the web, which means your presentation is accessible across a range of mobile devices as well as desktops. Regardless of the device used, you’re able to select from a variety of different fonts, layouts, and filters to make the perfect presentation.

The great thing about these various customization options is that they’re categorized into different industries and use cases. For instance, you’ll find themes for teaching, cooking, real estate, and startups. Most of the features require you to be online, but hopefully, you’ll have a sturdy net connection wherever you go.

SlideDog website screenshot

5. SlideDog

It’s all too easy to end up creating a presentation that’s unappealing, and the last thing you want to do is make the audience fall asleep. SlideDog lets you combine almost any type of media to create a rich presentation that’s sure to keep the viewers’ peepers open, avoiding the ‘cookie cutter’ look that makes presentations seem dull.

Marketed as a web-based multimedia presentation tool, it gives you the ability to combine PowerPoint presentations, graphics, PDF files, Prezi presentations, web pages, pictures, videos, and movie clips. You can drag these into custom playlists and display them to your audience with ease.

You’re able to remotely control your presentations and playlists from your smartphone, the web, or a secondary computer, and there’s also the option to share slides in real-time. Audience members can even view your slide from their own devices by clicking a link. That’s a handy feature if you’re looking to create an immersive presentation experience.

SlideDog is probably the cheapest of the presentation software featured, with a free account that will cover the essential features. However, for live sharing and premium support, you need to upgrade.

Prezi website screenshot

Prezi is one of the more unique presentation tools. Instead of presenting your graphics and text in a slide-to-slide format, you can create highly visual and interactive presentation canvases with the goal of “emphasizing the relationship between the ideas”.

Presentations can also be tailored to the specific audience, as this is a flexible platform that’s capable of skipping ahead, or veering off into a side topic, without having to flip through all the slides to get to a particular bit.

For business users, there are a variety of handy tools available. By downloading Prezi , you can build and edit presentations with your colleagues in real-time, which is perfect for companies with teams based around the globe.

When you have created a presentation you’re happy with, you can present it live (in HD) and send a direct link to viewers. There are some analysis tools here, too – you can see who’s accessed your presentation, which parts of it, and for how long. The app is available for Mac and Windows devices.

Other presentation software to consider

Google Slides  is part of the Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) office platform intended as an online alternative to Microsoft Office. It may seem a little limited by comparison to PowerPoint, but as it's browser-based that means cross-platform compatibility. Additionally, it allows for collaborative work, and Google Slides really works well here. On top of the fact that it integrates with the rest of the Google Workspace apps, not least Google Drive, and you have a contender.

Zoho Show  is another of the many, many tools and apps that Zoho has made available for business use. It also operates in the cloud so it's accessible to any device with a browser, and it also allows for collaborative work. You can also easily share the link for users to download, or provide a live presentation online. The updated version has a simpler and easier to use interface and comes with a free version and a paid-for one with expanded features.

Evernote  is normally thought of as just note-taking software, but it does provide the option to create a presentation you can share online or with an audience. In that regard, it's a little more limited than the other options in not being dedicated presentation software. However, as an easy and handy way to pull together a presentation quickly, it could serve as a backup or last-minute option, especially if Evernote is already being commonly used by you.

LibreOffice Impress  is part of the open-source suite offered as a free alternative to Microsoft Office, and comes with a powerful array of tools and editing options for your presentation, not least working with 3D images. It's supported by a large community, so it's easy to find an array of additional templates. If there is a limitation it's that it's software you download and install rather than web-based, but any presentations created should be easily portable to the web if needed.

Adobe Spark  does things a bit differently, as rather than just use images it's geared toward video as well. This makes for potentially more powerful multimedia presentations, especially as Adobe also has a big selection of photos and images available for its users. There is a free tier for core features but requires a subscription for custom branding, personalized themes, and support.

Slides  comes with a lot of features in an easy-to-use interface, and involves setting up presentations using drag and drop into an existing grid. It's also internet-based so there's no software to download, and it only requires a browser to use and access.

Presentation software FAQs

Which presentation software is best for you.

When deciding which presentation software to download and use, first consider what your actual needs are, as sometimes free platforms may only provide basic options, so if you need to use advanced tools you may find a paid platform is much more worthwhile. Additionally, free and budget software options can sometimes prove limited when it comes to the variety of tools available, while higher-end software can really cater for every need, so do ensure you have a good idea of which features you think you may require for your presentation needs.

How we tested the best presentation software

To test for the best presentation software we first set up an account with the relevant software platform, whether as a download or as an online service. We then tested the service to see how the software could be used for different purposes and in different situations. The aim was to push each software platform to see how useful its basic tools were and also how easy it was to get to grips with any more advanced tools.

By Krystle Wong , Jan 12, 2024

12 Best Presentation Software

Whether you’re a student, professional or entrepreneur, having access to the right presentation tools can make all the difference.

When you craft a well-executed presentation , your message becomes more memorable. You’re not just sharing information; you’re weaving a story, painting a picture and leaving a lasting impact on your audience’s minds.

We’re living in the age of information overload, where attention spans are shorter than ever. A good presentation slide takes this into account, breaking down complex information into bite-sized chunks. It guides your audience through a logical flow, allowing them to digest information effortlessly and retain key points without feeling overwhelmed.

To help you stay ahead of the game, I’ve compiled a list of the 12 best software for presentations. These PowerPoint alternatives offer a combination of user-friendly interfaces, stunning visuals, collaboration features and innovative functionalities that will take your presentations to the next level.

Let’s dive in and explore these top presentation software picks!

2. Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint

Source: Screenshot from Microsoft PowerPoint

Even with dozens of presentation software and tools out there, PowerPoint presentations have stood the test of time as one of the best presentation software. In fact, 89% of people still use PowerPoint presentations over competitor services .

Whether you’re a student, teacher, business professional or just a creative soul, PowerPoint’s user-friendly interface allows both beginners and experienced users to create presentations with ease.

PowerPoint delivers captivating and engaging presentations through its advanced animation and transition effects. You can create interactive PowerPoint presentations by captivating your audience and guiding them through your content with seamless transitions and eye-catching animations.

Seamless integration with other Microsoft Office tools is another significant advantage of PowerPoint as a presentation software. As part of the Microsoft Office suite, PowerPoint effortlessly integrates with other familiar applications such as Word and Excel. This integration allows you to incorporate charts, graphs and written content from these tools directly into your presentation.

However, collaboration features in PowerPoint can be somewhat limited compared to dedicated collaboration platforms. While you can share and co-edit presentations with others, the collaboration options may not be as robust as those offered by specialized presentation tools.

Suitable for individuals, students, educators and businesses of all sizes.

Customizable templates, multimedia support, extensive slide editing options, robust animations and transitions.

You can subscribe to PowerPoint as part of your Microsoft 365 subscription with various plans tailored for businesses, ranging from $6 to $22 USD/month. Additionally, there is also the option to purchase an unbundled PowerPoint account separately, priced at $159.99 USD.

3. Google Slides

Google Slides

Source: Screenshot from Google Slides

Unlike PowerPoint which requires file sharing and manual syncing for teamwork, Google Slides enables real-time collaboration and easy access from any device with an internet connection.

Google Slides shines in its seamless collaboration capabilities. Multiple users can work on the same presentation simultaneously, enabling real-time editing and fostering efficient teamwork. The integrated commenting feature on Google Slides allows for shared feedback and discussions, enhancing collaboration even further.

Google Slides’ cloud-based storage and auto-saving feature ensures that your work is constantly saved, minimizing the risk of losing progress or important changes. No more panicking over unsaved slides and changes.

But that also means that Google Slides heavily relies on an internet connection for full functionality and access is more limited compared to desktop-based software. Although an offline mode is available, Google Slides has certain limitations and may not provide the same level of functionality as when connected to the internet.

Templates and customization features-wise, Google Slides also have fewer design options compared to other presentation tools. This may limit the level of visual creativity and flexibility for those seeking intricate designs or specialized effects.

Ideal for remote teams, educators, students and anyone looking for easy collaboration and access from any device.

Real-time collaboration, shared commenting, offline mode and built-in sharing options.

Google Slides is accessible to all individuals with a Google account at no cost, providing all users with access to its full range of features. Slidebean also offers collaboration options, allowing multiple team members to work on a presentation simultaneously.

Another advantage of Slidebean is its AI-powered content suggestions. The software intelligently analyzes the presentation content and provides helpful suggestions for improving the messaging and overall flow. This feature ensures that users can effectively communicate their ideas and engage their audience.

Unlike Ludus, Slidebean may not cater to users who prefer extensive customization and control over their slide layouts. Certain advanced features are only available in premium plans, which may require an upgrade for those seeking more advanced functionality.

Startups, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and individuals who want to create polished presentations quickly.

Automated design, content suggestions, collaboration tools and pitch deck-specific templates.

The free version offers limited functionalities, but it provides a sufficient opportunity to experience Slidebean’s capabilities and understand its workflow. However, to export your presentation and access advanced features, upgrading to a higher plan is necessary.

The all-access plan is available at $228 USD/year, while additional services such as startup expert consultations and pitch deck and financial model services are available for separate purchase.

Beautiful.ai

Beautiful.ai aims to simplify the process of creating visually stunning and professional-looking slides with minimal effort. One of the notable strengths of the presentation software is its collection of smart templates and design suggestions.

Their templates are intelligently designed to provide visually appealing layouts, saving users valuable time and effort in creating presentations. Unlike other types of presentation software, the platform leverages AI-powered technology to offer layout optimization, ensuring that slide elements are positioned optimally for maximum impact.

Beautiful.ai also offers time-saving features that streamline the presentation creation process. The software automatically adjusts the layout and formatting as users add or modify content, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.

As the software provides smart templates and design suggestions, customization options may be somewhat limited. Users may find that certain design elements or layout adjustments are not as flexible as they would like.

Individuals, startups and professionals who want visually impressive presentations without extensive design skills.

Smart templates, automated design suggestions, AI-powered layout optimization and easy slide customization.

Beautiful.ai provides two subscription options for users. The Pro plan is available at a monthly cost of $12 USD /month, while the Team plan is priced at $40 USD/month. Both plans are billed annually. You can also subscribe to the monthly subscription for ad hoc projects and gain access to all pro features for $45 USD/month (billed monthly).

There is a 14-day free trial period that allows users to thoroughly test and explore the features and capabilities of the tool before committing to a subscription.

The best presentation software

These powerpoint alternatives go beyond the basics..

Hero image with logos of the best presentation software

The latest presentation apps have made it easier than ever to format slides and create professional-looking slideshows without giving off a "this is a template" vibe. Even standard PowerPoint alternatives have updated key features to make it easier than ever to collaborate and create presentations quickly, so you can spend more time prepping for your actual presentation.

If, like me, you've been using Google Slides unquestioningly for years, it's a whole new world out there. The newest crop of online presentation tools go way beyond the classic slideshow experience, with new features to keep your audience's attention, streamline the creation process with AI, and turn slide decks into videos and interactive conversations.

I've been testing these apps for the past few years, and this time, I spent several days tinkering with the top presentation software solutions out there to bring you the best of the best.

What makes the best presentation app?

How we evaluate and test apps.

Our best apps roundups are written by humans who've spent much of their careers using, testing, and writing about software. Unless explicitly stated, we spend dozens of hours researching and testing apps, using each app as it's intended to be used and evaluating it against the criteria we set for the category. We're never paid for placement in our articles from any app or for links to any site—we value the trust readers put in us to offer authentic evaluations of the categories and apps we review. For more details on our process, read the full rundown of how we select apps to feature on the Zapier blog .

When looking for the best presentation apps, I wanted utility players. After all, slideshows are used for just about everything, from pitch decks and product launches to class lectures and church sermons. With that in mind, here's what I was looking for:

Pre-built templates. The best presentation tools should have attractive, professional-looking templates to build presentations in a hurry.

Sharing and collaboration options. Whether you plan to share your webinar slides later, or you just want to collaborate with a coworker on a presentation, it should be easy to share files and collaborate in real-time.

Flexibility and customization options. Templates are great, but top presentation apps should enable you to customize just about everything—giving you the flexibility to build exactly what you need.

Affordability. Creating compelling presentations is important, but you shouldn't have to bust your budget to make it happen. With capable free tools on the market, affordability is a top consideration.

Standalone functionality. There's no reason to use multiple tools when one can do it all, so I didn't test any apps that require and work on top of another presentation app like PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Familiar, deck-based UI. For our purposes here, I only tested software that uses slides, with the familiar deck-based editor you expect from a "presentation" tool (versus, for example, a video creation app).

While many apps now offer AI features in one way or another, I found many of these features to be lacking still—they're often slow, struggle to pull in relevant imagery, and yield wildly inconsistent designs. For that reason, I opted not to make AI features a strict requirement (for now!), and I've still included apps that don't offer AI. (Of course, if you opt for one of those, you can still easily get AI-generated images from a separate tool and copy them into your presentation app of choice.)

Beyond that, I also looked for presentation apps that brought something unique to the table—features above and beyond what you can get for free from a legacy solution like PowerPoint or Google Slides. (And I opted not to test any brand new apps that are still in beta, since there are so many established options out there.)

Here's what my testing workflow looked like:

I went through any onboarding or guided tutorials.

I created a new deck, scanning through all available templates, noting how well-designed they were (and which were free versus paid).

I added new slides, deleted slides, edited text and images, and played around with other content types.

I changed presentation design settings, like color schemes and background images.

I reviewed and tested the sharing and collaboration options.

I tested out presenter view (when available).

After my first round of testing, I went back into the top performers to test any unique or niche features like AI, brand settings, interactive content, and more. With that, these are the best presentation apps I found—each one really brings something different or radically easy to the table.

The best presentation software: at a glance

The best free presentation software, canva (web, windows, mac, android, ios).

Canva, our pick for the best free presentation app

Canva pros:

Excellent free plan

Tons of amazing templates for all use cases

Feature-rich

Canva cons:

The Magic Design AI tool is still inconsistent and not super impressive

Canva offers one of the most robust free plans of all the presentation apps I tested. The app delays account creation until after you've created your first design, so you can get started building your presentation in seconds. Choose from an almost overwhelming number of beautiful templates (nearly all available for free), including those designed specifically for education or business use cases.

Anyone who's accidentally scrolled too far and been bumped to the next slide will appreciate Canva's editor interface, which eliminates that problem altogether with a smooth scroll that doesn't jump around. Choose from a handful of preset animations to add life to your presentations, or browse the library of audio and video files available to add. And Canva also has a number of options for sharing your presentation, including adding collaborators to your team, sharing directly to social media, and even via QR code.

Present directly from Canva, and let audience members submit their questions via Canva Live. Once you share a link to invite audience members to your presentation, they can send questions for you to answer. As the presenter, you'll see them pop up in your presenter view window, so you can keep the audience engaged and your presentation clear. Alternatively, record a presentation with a talking head bubble—you can even use an AI presenter here—to share remotely.

Canvas has added a number of AI-powered tools , but I wasn't super impressed by them yet. When I asked the Magic Design tool to generate a presentation from scratch, for example, the result was a bunch of unrelated images, inconsistent design, and surface-level copy. These features will likely improve in time, but for now, you're better off starting from one of Canva's many great templates.

Canva pricing: Free plan available; paid plans start at $119.99/year for 1 user and include additional features like Brand Kit, premium templates and stock assets, and additional AI-powered design tools.

The best presentation app for AI-powered design

Beautiful.ai (web, mac, windows).

Beautiful.ai pros:

True AI design

No fussing around with alignment

Still allows for customization

Beautiful.ai cons:

No free plan

Generative AI features aren't great yet

If you're like me, editing granular spacing issues is the absolute worst part of building a presentation. Beautiful.ai uses artificial intelligence to take a lot of the hassle and granular design requirements out of the presentation process, so you can focus on the content of a presentation without sacrificing professional design. If I needed to make presentations on a regular basis, this is the app I'd use.

Many apps have recently added AI design features, but Beautiful.ai has been doing it for years—and they've perfected the UX of AI design, ensuring the tool's reign as the most streamlined and user-friendly option for AI design.

The editor is a little different from most presentation apps, but it's still intuitive—and you'll start off with a quick two-minute tutorial. When creating a new slide, scroll through "inspiration slides" to find a layout you like; once you choose, the app will pull the layout and automatically adapt it to match the design of the rest of your presentation.

With 10 themes, several templated slides, over 40 fully-designed templates, and 23 different color palettes to choose from, Beautiful.ai strikes a perfect balance between automation and customization.

While Beautiful.ai doesn't offer a free plan, paid plans are reasonably priced and offer sharing and collaboration options that rival collab-focused apps like Google Slides. And speaking of Google, you can connect Beautiful.ai with Google Drive to save all your presentations there.

Note: I did test the newly released generative AI feature (called DesignerBot) and felt it wasn't much to write home about. It's great for adding individual slides to an existing presentation—automatically choosing the best layout and matching the design to the rest of the deck—but as with most other apps, it struggled to generate a quality presentation from scratch.

Beautiful.ai pricing: Plans start at $12/month for unlimited slides, AI content generation, viewer analytics, and more. Upgrade to a Team plan for $40/user/month to get extra collaboration and workspace features and custom brand controls.

If you're a founder looking for an AI presentation tool for your pitch deck, Slidebean is a great Beautiful.ai alternative for startups. The app offers a number of templates; a unique, content-first outline editor; and AI design help that you can toggle on or off for each slide. I didn't include it on the list mainly because of the price: the free plan is quite limited, and the paid all-access plan starts at $228/year.

The best presentation app for conversational presentations

Prezi (web, mac, windows, ios, android).

Prezi interface

Prezi pros:

Doesn't restrict you to standard presentation structure

Lots of customization options

Prezi Video lets you display a presentation right over your webcam video

Prezi cons:

Steep learning curve

Struggling to squeeze information into a basic, linear presentation? Give Prezi a try. Unlike nearly all other presentation apps on the market, Prezi Present doesn't restrict the structure of your presentation to a straight line. The editor focuses on topics and subtopics and allows you to arrange them any way you want, so you can create a more conversational flow of information.

With the structural flexibility, you still get all the same customization features you expect from top presentation software, including fully-editable templates. There's a learning curve if you're unfamiliar with non-linear presentations, but templates offer a great jumping-off point, and Prezi's editor does a good job of making the process more approachable.

Plus, Prezi comes with two other apps: Prezi Design and Prezi Video. Prezi Video helps you take remote presentations to a new level. You can record a video where the presentation elements are displayed right over your webcam feed. Record and save the video to share later, or connect with your video conferencing tool of choice (including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet) to present live.

Prezi pricing: Free 14-day trial and a free plan that includes up to 5 visual projects; paid plans start at $5/month and include additional features like private presentations and Prezi Present.

The best presentation app for video presentations

Powtoon (web, ios, android).

Powtoon pros:

Timing automatically changes based on the content on the slide

Can toggle between slideshow and video

Can orient presentation as horizontal, vertical, or square

Powtoon cons:

Limited free plan

Powtoon makes it easy to create engaging videos by orienting the editor around a slide deck. Editing a Powtoon feels just like editing a presentation, but by the time you finish, you have a professional video.

You can edit your slides at any time, and when you hit play, a video plays through your deck—the feel is almost like an animated explainer video. Each slide includes the animations you choose and takes up as much time as is needed based on the content on the slide. Powtoon figures the timing automatically, and you can see in the bottom-right of the editor how much time is used on your current slide versus the total presentation. If you ever want to present as a slide deck, just toggle between Slideshow and Movie.

You'll likely need to subscribe to a paid plan to get the most out of Powtoon—like creating videos longer than three minutes, downloading them as MP4 files, and white-labeling your presentations—but doing so won't break the bank. Plus, you'll unlock tons of templates complete with animations and soundtracks.

One of my favorite Powtoon features is the ability to orient your video: you can choose horizontal orientation (like a normal presentation) or opt for vertical (for mobile) or square (for social media). When your presentation is ready, you can publish straight to YouTube, Wistia, Facebook Ads, and any number of other locations.

Powtoon pricing: Limited free plan available; paid plans start at $20/month and include white-labeling, priority support, additional storage, and more.

The best presentation app for interactive presentations

Genially (web).

Genially, our pick for the best presentation app for interactive presentations

Genially pros:

Don't need a presenter (it's interactive)

You can set universal branding guidelines

Unlimited creations on the free plan

Genially cons:

Free plan has some limitations worth looking into (e.g., can only make public presentations)

While many presentation apps are built for presenter-led decks, Genially 's interactive features and animated templates make it easy to build a self-led presentation. A variety of interactive buttons allow you to show viewers additional context on hover, have them skip to any page of your deck, and let them navigate to external links.

This presentation program offers a bunch of searchable templates, including some for business proposals, reports, social media presentations, and more (though most of those are available on premium plans only). Genially also includes Smart blocks —templated blocks of content for elements like data visualizations and image galleries.

My favorite feature is the brand settings. Premium users can set universal branding guidelines that include your logo, color scheme, fonts, images, and backgrounds, among other options. Think of them like a custom template, created and customized by you, that the whole team can use. Once set, your team can easily create on-brand presentations that automatically apply your brand settings, without even thinking about it.

Plus, Genially supports additional content like training materials, infographics, and interactive images—all subject to your brand presets.

Genially pricing: Free plan available with unlimited creations and views and access to templates; paid plans start at $7.49/month and include additional download options, privacy controls, offline viewing, premium templates, and more.

The best presentation app for collaborating with your team

Pitch (web, mac, windows, ios, android).

Pitch, our pick for the best presentation software for collaborating with your team

Pitch pros:

Google levels of collaboration

Assign slides to specific team members

Start live video calls straight from decks

Pitch cons:

User interface is a little different than you're used to

Need to collaborate on presentations with your team? Pitch is a Google Slides alternative that gets the job done. As far as decks go, Pitch includes all the beautifully-designed templates, customizability, and ease of use you expect from a top-notch presentation tool. But the app really shines when you add your team.

The right-hand sidebar is all about project management and collaboration: you can set and update the status of your deck, assign entire presentations or individual slides to team members, plus comment, react, or add notes. Save custom templates to make future presentations even easier and faster.

You can also invite collaborators from outside your company to work with you on individual decks. And if you opt for a paid plan, Pitch introduces workspace roles, shared private folders, and version history.

The "Go live" feature is a personal favorite—with just a click on the camera icon in the top-right, you can start a live video call. Any team members who open the presentation can hop in and collaborate in real-time.

Pitch pricing: Free plan offers unlimited presentations, custom templates, and live video collaboration; paid plans start at $8/user/month for additional workspace features, presentation analytics, and more.

The best simple presentation app

Zoho show (web, ios, android, chrome).

Zoho Show, our pick for the best simple presentation app

Zoho Show pros:

Simple and easy to use

Version history and ability to lock slides

Completely free

Zoho Show cons:

Templates are pretty basic

If you're looking for a simple, yet capable presentation app that's a step up from Google Slides, Zoho Show is a great option. It's completely free to use, offers a clean, intuitive editor, and includes a number of great templates.

While the handful of "Themes" offered are on the basic side, Zoho templates boast a more modern and professional design than much of what Google Slides or PowerPoint offer. And I love that you can set the font and color scheme for the whole template, right from the start.

The app doesn't skimp on collaboration or shareability either. You can invite collaborators via email or shareable link, and comments and version history make it easy to work together on presentations. Once you're ready to share, you can even broadcast your presentation to a remote audience right from within Zoho. Plus, you can one-click lock slides to prevent any more editing or hide individual slides to customize your presentation for different audiences.

You can even connect Zoho Show to Zapier , so you can do things like automatically create a presentation when something happens in one of the other apps you use most.

Zapier is the leader in workflow automation—integrating with 6,000+ apps from partners like Google, Salesforce, and Microsoft. Use interfaces, data tables, and logic to build secure, automated systems for your business-critical workflows across your organization's technology stack. Learn more .

The best presentation app for generative AI

Gamma (web).

Gamma, our pick for the best presentation app for generative AI

Gamma pros:

Creates fully fleshed-out presentations from a prompt

Chatbot-like experience

Can still manually edit the presentation

Gamma cons:

Not as much granular customization

I tested a lot of apps claiming to use AI to up your presentation game, and Gamma 's generative features were head and shoulders above the crowd.

Simply give the app a topic—or upload an outline, notes, or any other document or article—approve the outline, and pick a theme. The app will take it from there and create a fully fleshed-out presentation. It's far from perfect, but Gamma produced the most useful jumping-off point of all the AI presentation apps I tested.

Here's the key: Gamma is much more geared toward the iterative, chatbot experience familiar to ChatGPT users. Click on the Edit with AI button at the top of the right-hand menu to open the chat, and you'll see suggested prompts—or you can type in your own requests for how Gamma should alter the presentation.

Once you've done all you can with prompts, simply close the chat box to manually add the finishing touches. While you do sacrifice some granular customizability in exchange for the AI features, you can still choose your visual theme, change slide layouts, format text, and add any images, videos, or even app and web content.

Gamma pricing: Free plan includes unlimited users, 1 custom theme, 400 AI deck credits, and basic view analytics; upgrade to the Pro plan ("coming soon," as of this writing) for $10/user/month to get additional AI credits, advanced view analytics, custom fonts, and more.

What about the old standbys?

You might notice a few major presentation players aren't on this list, including OGs Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, and Google Slides. These apps are perfectly adequate for creating basic presentations, and they're free if you have a Windows or Mac device or a Google account.

I didn't include them on the list because the presentation space has really developed in the last several years, and after testing them out, I found these behemoths haven't kept pace. If they weren't made by Microsoft/Apple/Google, I might not even be mentioning them. They're pretty basic tools, they're behind the curve when it comes to templates (both quantity and design), and they don't offer any uniquely valuable features like robust team collaboration, branding controls, video, and so on.

Some of these companies (think: Microsoft and Google) are openly working on some pretty impressive-sounding AI features, but they haven't been widely released to the public yet. Rest assured, I'm watching this space, and the next time we update this article, I'll retest tools like PowerPoint and Google Slides to see what new features are available.

In any case, if you're reading this, you're probably looking for an alternative that allows you to move away from one of the big 3, and as the presentation platforms featured above show, there's a ton to gain—in terms of features, usability, and more—when you do.

How to choose the best presentation software for your business

There are several factors to consider while selecting the best presentation software for your business. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice:

Consider your feature requirements: Before selecting business presentation software, consider your business needs and must-have features. For example, you will need a multimedia stock library, collaboration tools, and the ability to track changes. Also, check if the software allows you to customize and format your slides, including themes and layout options, to create a cohesive and professional presentation.

Look for presentation template library and multimedia support: Software solutions that offer a wide selection of professional-looking templates and fonts can provide a helpful starting point and save time while creating presentations. Besides that, the ability to incorporate multimedia elements can enhance the visual appeal and impact of a presentation.

Check multi-user screen-sharing options: Some presentation software apps allow multiple users to share their screens simultaneously, while some tools do not offer this option. If you are looking for a tool to improve team collaboration, you should consider multi-user screen-sharing features.

Consider collaboration elements: Consider a tool that allows you to collaborate on presentations with your teammates and stakeholders. Real-time collaboration features, such as the ability to share and edit presentations, add comments, and leave feedback, can improve the efficiency of the presentation-creation process.

Assess file formats and device support: Presentation software typically allows incorporating images, audio, and video, but you should double-check which file types are supported and select a solution that supports different file formats. Checking the types of supported hardware is also important, as options to connect with wireless devices and the availability of mobile apps will make it easier to use the tool.

How much does presentation software cost?

Most products in the market are priced on a "per user, per month" basis and can be broken down into three common pricing tiers based on their starting price.

Price ranges:

*The pricing included is for the entry-level/lowest-priced offering found on vendor websites on January 04, 2023. These ranges correspond to the 25th, 75th, and 100th percentiles of pricing information gathered from vendor websites of sample products.

Hidden costs associated with presentation software

The above pricing list summarizes pricing for the base plans of most products. An enterprise or premium product that is priced higher may include additional features, for example, unlimited presentation templates, custom colors, custom themes, company branding, workspace analytics, and priority support. However, even the free plan may have hidden charges, such as training and implementation costs, customization costs, add-on charges, and integration and scalability costs. Before making a choice, ask the software vendor about any such hidden charges to ensure full pricing transparency.

Frequently asked questions when selecting presentation software

Here are some questions to ask presentation software providers before making a final purchase:

Does the presentation solution support real-time collaboration?

If you have a cross-functional team with multiple stakeholders, look for presentation software that supports collaboration. This will help your team make changes to the presentation in real time and reduce the risk of inconsistencies with instant feedback on the content.

Does the software offer stock content?

Stock content, such as pre-installed templates, graphics, videos, fonts, and icons, can save time and effort in the presentation process by allowing you to easily insert pre-made content into your projects rather than having to create everything from scratch. Check with your software vendor if their tool offers access to a variety of stock content options.

Does the software offer offline/online capabilities?

The right presentation tool should be accessible online and offline to accommodate situations where a reliable internet connection may not be available. It should also allow you to easily create, save, and present an appealing presentation without an internet connection. This will help streamline the presentation creation process and make it more convenient.

How well does the tool integrate with other software solutions?

Most presentation tools integrate with communication platforms to facilitate sharing files and assets, collaboration, conferencing, and task management. Before finalizing, you can ask vendors if their presentation software supports easy integration with third-party applications you use. For example, integration with project management software and customer relationship management (CRM) systems can help streamline the presentation-creation process and improve communication.

Methodology

To be considered for this list, products had to:

Have at least 20 unique product reviews published on Capterra within the past two years, with an average rating of 3.0 or higher, as of January 04, 2023. We selected the top seven products from Capterra’s shortlist report for presentation software , having the highest ratings to feature in this article.

Include animation and media library as core features along with customizable templates, collaboration tools, screen sharing, and video support.

Meet our presentation software market definition: “Presentation software helps ministers, salespeople, marketing employees, and other professionals create and conduct presentations.”

The “best functionality” tool is identified based on the highest user ratings for functionality that a vendor received based on user reviews as of January 04, 2023.

Products evaluated for the pricing calculation were taken from Capterra’s presentation software directory . The pricing ranges exclude freemium versions of the products. The features highlighted were identified based on their relevance and the percentage of products in the Capterra directory that offer them.

What It Takes to Give a Great Presentation

  • Carmine Gallo

best presentation solution

Five tips to set yourself apart.

Never underestimate the power of great communication. It can help you land the job of your dreams, attract investors to back your idea, or elevate your stature within your organization. But while there are plenty of good speakers in the world, you can set yourself apart out by being the person who can deliver something great over and over. Here are a few tips for business professionals who want to move from being good speakers to great ones: be concise (the fewer words, the better); never use bullet points (photos and images paired together are more memorable); don’t underestimate the power of your voice (raise and lower it for emphasis); give your audience something extra (unexpected moments will grab their attention); rehearse (the best speakers are the best because they practice — a lot).

I was sitting across the table from a Silicon Valley CEO who had pioneered a technology that touches many of our lives — the flash memory that stores data on smartphones, digital cameras, and computers. He was a frequent guest on CNBC and had been delivering business presentations for at least 20 years before we met. And yet, the CEO wanted to sharpen his public speaking skills.

10 Best AI Tools for Presentations in 2024

Senior Content Marketing Manager

February 13, 2024

Presentations are a powerful way to share information, but building your slide deck is often time-consuming.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing how people put professional and engaging presentations together, allowing you to create polished presentations in seconds. With AI, say goodbye to tediously moving elements around on a slide and say hello to getting time back in your schedule to work on the stuff that matters most.

Ready to harness this presentation superpower? Learn more about AI presentation tools , what to look for, and some of the best AI presentation makers available in 2024.

What to look for in AI tools for presentations

What are AI Tools for Presentations?

Various software and platforms use AI to help users create, enhance, and deliver visually appealing slides. These tools can assist with all aspects of the presentation creation process, from the initial creation to supercharging engagement.

Depending on the specific AI presentation tool, it can help you with tasks such as:

  • Designing stunning presentations: AI can understand and follow the rules for good design, enabling it to craft professional-looking slide decks that are visually appealing and relevant to your content
  • Creating content: Tell the AI writing tool what you want to write about, and it will generate content for each slide and even create your speech notes
  • Building visuals for data: Give the platform your data, and it can create easy-to-read visualizations of your information ready to add to your slide deck

AI presentation makers help you produce engaging content faster and connect with your audience more effectively. But with so many AI presentation makers available today, you’ll want to work with a few options and determine which suits your workflow and style best.

When looking for an AI presentation maker, you’ll want to find something that feels intuitive and has a user-friendly interface. You don’t want to spend hours learning how to use a new piece of software, and you shouldn’t need extensive technical expertise to put these tools to work.

You’ll also want to ensure that the AI tool you choose integrates well with the rest of your tech stack. A stunning presentation is no good if you can’t get it to work with your preferred software, such as Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint.

You should also look for AI-powered tools that offer the functionality you need. For example, maybe you love designing slides but aren’t strong at crafting engaging copy. In that case, look for tools that focus on content generation with interactive elements so you can flex your design skills.

Or, you may want an AI presentation generator that does everything, from designing graphics to writing copy. These are often paid tools, but you can use free trials to determine your best options for creating presentations.

23 presentation examples that really work (plus templates!)

Three professionals engaged in a collaborative meeting with a Biteable video maker, a laptop, and documents on the table.

  • 30 Mar 2023

To help you in your quest for presentation greatness, we’ve gathered 23 of the best business presentation examples out there. These hand-picked ideas range from business PowerPoint presentations, to recruitment presentations, and everything in between.

As a bonus, several of our examples include editable video presentation templates from  Biteable .

Biteable allows anyone to create great video presentations — no previous video-making skills required. The easy-to-use platform has hundreds of brandable templates and video scenes designed with a business audience in mind. A video made with Biteable is just what you need to add that wow factor and make an impact on your audience.

Create videos that drive action

Activate your audience with impactful, on-brand videos. Create them simply and collaboratively with Biteable.

Video presentation examples

Video presentations are our specialty at Biteable. We love them because they’re the most visually appealing and memorable way to communicate.

1. Animated characters

Our first presentation example is a business explainer from Biteable that uses animated characters. The friendly and modern style makes this the perfect presentation for engaging your audience.

Bonus template:  Need a business video presentation that reflects the beautiful diversity of your customers or team? Use  Biteable’s workplace scenes . You can change the skin tone and hair color for any of the animated characters.

2. Conference video

Videos are also ideal solutions for events (e.g. trade shows) where they can be looped to play constantly while you attend to more important things like talking to people and handing out free cheese samples.

For this event presentation sample below, we used bright colours, stock footage, and messaging that reflects the brand and values of the company. All these elements work together to draw the attention of passers-by.

For a huge selection of video presentation templates, take a look at our  template gallery .

Business PowerPoint presentation examples

Striking fear into the hearts of the workplace since 1987, PowerPoint is synonymous with bland, boring presentations that feel more like an endurance test than a learning opportunity. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Check out these anything-but-boring business PowerPoint presentation examples.

3. Design pointers

This PowerPoint presentation takes a tongue-in-cheek look at how the speakers and users of PowerPoint are the problem, not the software itself.

Even at a hefty 61 slides, the vintage theme, appealing colors, and engaging content keep the viewer interested. It delivers useful and actionable tips on creating a better experience for your audience.

Pixar, as you’d expect, redefines the meaning of PowerPoint in their “22 Rules for Phenomenal Storytelling”. The character silhouettes are instantly recognizable and tie firmly to the Pixar brand. The bright colour palettes are carefully chosen to highlight the content of each slide.

This presentation is a good length, delivering one message per slide, making it easy for an audience to take notes and retain the information.

Google slides examples

If you’re in business, chances are you’ll have come across  slide decks . Much like a deck of cards, each slide plays a key part in the overall ‘deck’, creating a well-rounded presentation.

If you need to inform your team, present findings, or outline a new strategy, slides are one of the most effective ways to do this.

Google Slides is one of the best ways to create a slide deck right now. It’s easy to use and has built-in design tools that integrate with Adobe, Lucidchart, and more. The best part — it’s free!

5. Teacher education

Here’s a slide deck that was created to educate teachers on how to use Google Slides effectively in a classroom. At first glance it seems stuffy and businessy, but if you look closer it’s apparent the creator knows his audience well, throwing in some teacher-friendly content that’s bound to get a smile.

The slides give walkthrough screenshots and practical advice on the different ways teachers can use the software to make their lives that little bit easier and educate their students at the same time.

6. Charity awareness raiser

This next Google slide deck is designed to raise awareness for an animal shelter. It has simple, clear messaging, and makes use of the furry friends it rescues to tug on heartstrings and encourage donations and adoptions from its audience.

Pro tip: Creating a presentation is exciting but also a little daunting. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed — especially if the success of your business or nonprofit depends on it.

Prezi presentation examples

If you haven’t come across  Prezi , it’s a great alternative to using static slides. Sitting somewhere between slides and a video presentation, it allows you to import other content and add motion to create a more engaging viewer experience.

7. Red Bull event recap

This Prezi was created to document the Red Bull stratosphere freefall stunt a few years ago. It neatly captures all the things that Prezi is capable of, including video inserts and the zoom effect, which gives an animated, almost 3D effect to what would otherwise be still images.

Prezi has annual awards for the best examples of presentations over the year. This next example is one of the 2018 winners. It was made to highlight a new Logitech tool.

8. Logitech Spotlight launch

What stands out here are the juicy colors, bold imagery, and the way the designer has used Prezi to its full extent, including rotations, panning, fades, and a full zoom out to finish the presentation.

If you’re after a sales deck, you can’t go past this example from Zuora. What makes it great? It begins by introducing the worldwide shift in the way consumers are shopping. It’s a global phenomenon, and something we can all relate to.

It then weaves a compelling story about how the subscription model is changing the face of daily life for everyone. Metrics and testimonials from well-known CEOs and executives are included for some slamming social proof to boost the sales message.

Pitch presentation examples

Pitch decks are used to give an overview of business plans, and are usually presented during meetings with customers, investors, or potential partners.

11. Uber pitch deck

This is Uber’s original pitch deck, which (apart from looking a teensy bit dated) gives an excellent overview of their business model and clearly shows how they intended to disrupt a traditional industry and provide a better service to people. Right now, you’re probably very grateful that this pitch presentation was a winner.

You can make your own pitch deck with Biteable, or start with one of our  video templates  to make something a little more memorable.

12. Video pitch template

This video pitch presentation clearly speaks to the pains of everyone who needs to commute and find parking. It then provides the solution with its app that makes parking a breeze.

The video also introduces the key team members, their business strategy, and what they’re hoping to raise in funding. It’s a simple, clear pitch that positions the company as a key solution to a growing, worldwide problem. It’s compelling and convincing, as a good presentation should be.

13. Fyre Festival pitch deck

Despite the very public outcome, this is a masterclass in how to create hype and get funding with your pitch deck using beautiful imagery, beautiful people, and beautiful promises of riches and fame.

14. Business intro template

Modern graphics, animations, and upbeat soundtracks keep your prospects engaged as they learn about your business, your team, your values, and how you can help them.

15. Business explainer template

Research presentation examples.

When you’re giving a more technical presentation such as research findings, you need to strike the perfect balance between informing your audience and making sure they stay awake.

As a rule, slides are more effective for research presentations, as they are used to support the speaker’s knowledge rather can capture every small detail on screen.

With often dry, complex, and technical subject matter, there can be a temptation for presentations to follow suit. Use images instead of walls of text, and keep things as easy to follow as possible.

16. TrackMaven research deck

TrackMaven uses their endearing mascot to lighten up this data-heavy slide deck. The graphs help to bring life to their findings, and they ensure to only have one bite-size takeaway per slide so that viewers can easily take notes.

17. Wearable tech research report

Obviously, research can get very researchy and there’s not a lot to be done about it. This slide deck below lays out a ton of in-depth information but breaks it up well with quotes, diagrams, and interesting facts to keep viewers engaged while it delivers its findings on wearable technology.

Team presentation examples

Motivating your team can be a challenge at the best of times, especially when you need to gather them together for….another presentation!

19. Officevibe collaboration explainer

This short slide deck is a presentation designed to increase awareness of the problems of a disengaged team. Bright colors and relevant images combine with facts and figures that compel viewers to click through to a download to learn more about helping their teams succeed.

Patti Wilkins Seaman, CTE Director – George County High School, Lucedale, MS

We purchased your MAX system last year and we have thoroughly enjoyed using it and greatly benefited financially from it. One reason I love it is because the students get to participate in the design and production. They really enjoy the process and love seeing the end result. Another reason is the money we have made. Just the other night we worked the Male football team fish fry and we had people lined up for two hours…. We made over $500 in 2 hours!

Christy Harris, CTE Director – Louisville Male High School, Louisville, KY

Cynthia R. Smith, CTE Director – Grayson County Area Technology Center

The week we received it [Max Graphics System] we made a banner to celebrate our test scores and did 121 plaques to reward our students for test performance, all in the same day. The best experience we have had is an ABA basketball tournament. We set up for 6 hours and cleared over $800 with just two of us working. This system is great and is so easy to use.

Lucia C. Jenkins, Assistant Principal – Webster County High School in Dixon, Kentucky

Working with our Community Education Director, we are planning a service Learning Project. Each of our county schools has a pep rally to encourage the students to do their best.on the state tests. We hope to get items donated from local businesses to be given away at these CATS Pep Rallies. To show appreciation to the businesses, we will create vinyl window decals for them to display on their store windows. “We support Livingston County Schools!”

Greta Ramaqe, Business Teacher – Livingston Central High School

We are making custom designed decals for car windows supporting every sport and activity in our building. At registration this year alone we did over $600.00 in two days. We are currently looking into a number of other areas to expand our product.

Bill Byrne – Butler Traditional High School, Louisville, Kentucky

It is so COST EFFECTIVE (saving $$$) and EASY to make these awards verses purchasing. them at a trophy shop. You get the look you want at a fraction of the cost. The training on the use of the system at the beginning when it was purchased made all the difference in the world in its use for my school. Speaking for myself, if I know how something works and I don’t have to spend a lot of time (that I don’t have) on figuring out how it works, I will use it!!! And I Do!!!

The possibilities are endless with this great product! I cannot say enough about the great product as well as the great customer service that I have received from Presentation Solutions! I recommend this product to any school or business! Thanks again for all of your help!

Mrs. Robin Hurst, Fulton High School, Fulton, Kentucky

My students and I have found so many uses for the [MAX Graphic] machine; I could not even begin to list everything. Students have used the machine for fundraising activities for SkillsUSA and have secured fundraising contracts to create sports decals for Little League, Small Fry Football, and the Youth Soccer League to name a few. In addition, Collision Repair class has benefited from the machine with graphic designs, pinstriping. and decal replacement.

Minnie McCord, Instructor – Fleming County High School Pathway to Careers Program

Since the purchase cf the Max Graphic System, we have used it during our county basketball tournament to produce immediate vinyl decals that had the county championship team and were personalized. Every member of the team purchased one of these. We had so many people in line, I had to take names and numbers of players and they picked them up the next day. We made about $300 in 10 minutes.

How to wrap text in google slides.

Make an attention-worthy presentation by wrapping text in slides

You must strike the right balance between media files and text to create an engaging presentation. When you insert several photos in a slide, wrap the text around them to enhance its visual appeal. It also adds a professional touch and conveys the message better.

When you add text and images to a slide, you may need to change the text position so that it doesn't overlap with the inserted media. Whether you use Google Slides on a desktop or rely on the company's apps on your iPhone, budget Android phone , or tablet to make last-minute tweaks, check the tips below to wrap text around images in no time.

What is text wrap in Google Slides?

Text wrapping is a common feature in popular Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 apps, like Docs, Sheets, Word, Excel, and Google Slides. It wraps text around other slide content like photos and videos. You can resize text content and place it in a relevant position on a slide.

How to add transparency to an image in Google Slides

Wrap text in google slides on the web.

Since most Google Slides users prefer a web version, let's start with it. Follow the steps below to insert an image and add text around it.

  • Launch Google Slides on the web and sign in with your account details.
  • Create a new presentation or open an existing one.

Now, it's time to wrap the text around your image. Unlike Google Docs, there isn't a one-click solution to adjust your text automatically. You'll rely on a workaround.

  • Move to a new slide when you are satisfied with the outcome.

Tweak wrap text effect in Google Slides

You can also play with text formatting options in Google Slides. This is a neat way to improve the text wrap effect.

  • Open a slide in your presentation and select a text box.
  • Click Format at the top and expand Align and indent .

The option produces a clean edge on the left and right. It takes care of uneven gaps and rivers in the text.

Wrap text in Google Slides apps

The ability to wrap text in Google Slides is available on mobile and tablet. We use Google Slides for iPad in the screenshots below.

  • Launch Google Slides on your tablet and open a presentation.
  • Use the blue border to place your text box anywhere on a slide.

How to add a timer to Google Slides

Benefits of wrapping text in google slides.

Unlike Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides isn't smart enough to show design ideas based on your added text, images, and other graphical elements. When you add images and text, you must manually adjust them for a cohesive look. Here are some of the advantages of wrapping text in Google Slides.

  • Creates a solid presentation with lots of images and relevant text content.
  • Conveys your pitch in a meaningful manner.
  • Simplifies your busy slide.
  • Cuts down the number of slides in a presentation.

Improvise your pitch

Your presentation may look busy, cluttered, and unprofessional without text wrapping. It only requires a few clicks and small adjustments to make your text look organized with other slide elements. You can also tweak text from the Google Slides mobile apps.

If you don't want to deal with text wrapping and other formatting options, start with a top Google Slides template and make the required changes quickly to complete a presentation.

How do we halt the next pandemic? Be kind to critters like bats, says a new paper

When Australia's black flying foxes are well-fed, they tend to be healthy. A lack of food stresses the bats — and stress causes them to shed, or release, viruses into the environment.

Almost every pandemic we've seen over the last century has come from a virus that's spilled over into humans from an animal. "Generally, pandemics are seen as a biomedical problem," says Raina Plowright , an infectious disease ecologist at Cornell University. "Certainly, once the pandemic is underway, it is a biomedical problem because you need to have vaccines, you need therapeutics, you need testing," she says.

"But the genesis of the pandemic is actually an ecological problem," says Plowright. That is, it's due to the complex interactions between wildlife, habitat, climate and people.

But there's been relatively little discussion about a spillover's ecological origins and how to stop it from happening in the first place. Plowright found only four publications on how the coronavirus circulates in natural bat populations. That's compared to the tens of thousands of research articles she's pulled up on the coronavirus spike protein, which has been the focus of vaccines and efforts to understand how the virus enters and infects our cells.

Now, in a new perspective paper in Nature Communications , Plowright and a team of 24 ecologists, infectious disease scientists and policy experts have distilled their collective observations into three recommendations to prevent spillovers and halt epidemics and pandemics before they even start.

José Chies , an immuno-geneticist at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil who wasn't involved in the research, says the paper demonstrates the importance of proposing solutions based on the whole ecosystem at once. It's something public health researchers call the One Health approach.

Human health is not something that should be considered in isolation, says Chies. "You should consider animals, microorganisms and environment altogether. It's ecology in a broad approach."

How flowers can stop spillovers

For Plowright, these ideas grew out of her work on black flying foxes in eastern Australia, which she's studied for over two decades. These bats are a sight to behold.

"They have a wingspan of a bald eagle," says Plowright, "and they have these big beady eyes to see in the dark. Little pointy noses."

Black flying foxes feed on nectar. And they'll fly hundreds of miles to find it. "They plunge their heads into the flowers and become covered in pollen," she says. "And then they move that pollen from forest to forest, so they're actually really important pollinators in the Australian forest system."

When black flying foxes are well-fed, they tend to be healthy. "But over time," says Plowright, "the trees that produce flowers in winter were selectively cleared" for agriculture and property development. "And when this happened, the bats then had to move into human-dominated environments — so farmlands and cities — to find alternative food."

A lack of food stressed the bats — and stress causes them to shed, or release, viruses into the environment. In eastern Australia, this included the deadly Hendra virus, which the flying foxes shed in their urine and feces.

Hendra virus rarely spills from animals to us. Climate change makes it a bigger threat

Hendra virus rarely spills from animals to us. Climate change makes it a bigger threat

When horses have become infected with Hendra from bat excretions, the virus has a fatality rate of 80%. Only seven people have fallen ill from infected horses, but Hendra killed four of them.

"It's a very scary virus," says Plowright. It's especially concerning because each time the virus finds its way into humans, it gets another opportunity to evolve and become more infectious.

(Hendra and a variety of other pathogens don't harm bats, however. The prevailing explanation, Plowright says, is that bats "are very good at controlling viral replication while limiting the inflammation that would usually be associated with feeling sick.")

When hungry and stressed bats roam into human settlements, it creates the perfect storm for a Hendra spillover from bat into horse and occasionally from horse into human.

But here was the crucial observation: Whenever the remaining trees that hadn't been cut down produced a big pulse of nectar in the winter, "we found the bats actually emptied out of these human areas and went back to native forests and started feeding back in these trees," says Plowright. "And when that happened, the spillover stopped."

In other words — the ecological problem of spillover had an ecological solution. "And if spillover doesn't happen," she says, "then a biomedical intervention isn't needed."

Easier to reach the bat cave

Plowright's work with the flying foxes suggested the tantalizing possibility that spillovers could be brought to a standstill simply by restoring these forests. And she figured this approach was likely to work elsewhere in the world. When she spoke with other researchers during a series of workshops and meetings she convened in 2022, she heard echoes of the flying fox story playing out all over the world — all pointing to a planet in which humans and wildlife are bumping into each other more often as natural habitats are being destroyed.

A virologist at Rocky Mountain Laboratories who's studied bats in the Congo for a decade explained the trek to their field site used to take days and involve motorbikes and dugout canoes. Now it's a short few-hour drive down a two-lane highway. A researcher from the Pasteur Institute in Cambodia described how they once had to machete their way through the jungle to study a particular bat cave. Now they can drive there. A colleague from Uganda said they used to research bats in the forest, but now the bats live in the cities. That's because as habitat is cleared and native food disappears, the bats seek alternatives like "mango trees in backyards, fig trees for shade, flowering trees for ornamentation," says Plowright.

"And so what I saw was this picture of this environmental degradation happening worldwide at a really rapid pace," she recalls. "So of course, spillover must be becoming more likely."

It was this set of collective observations, gathered over decades of research, that formed the basis for the three recommendations in the new paper. These strategies, the authors argue, should work for any animal harboring viruses with spillover potential, including bats, birds, rodents and primates.

The three recommendations

First, they suggest protecting where and what animals eat.

"If animals have enough to eat," explains Plowright, then they don't have to move to new environments "to find food, which often is what brings them into higher encounter rates with humans and domestic animals."

In addition, sufficient amounts of food mean less stress, which means "they're more likely to be able to maintain a strong immune system and keep viruses in check."

Second, the authors of the paper advise protecting where animals aggregate — where they "sleep, shelter, mate, socialize and raise their young," as they write in the paper. Bats, for instance, can roost by the tens of thousands. By safeguarding the caves and canopies and other habitats where animals congregate — or introducing buffers around those spots to further minimize human disturbance — that reduces stress considerably too.

Finally, they propose keeping people at risk safe, which they admit isn't an ecological solution but is just as crucial. "There are many communities who have contact with wild animals as part of their vocation or part of their culture," says Plowright. And so the idea is to protect these individuals by providing adequate gear, like masks to guard against aerosolized viruses and PPE to prevent contact with animal fluids and excretions. Plowright says this effort also involves education and training, since some of her colleagues found that "when communities were aware of bat ecology and how important bats are to pollination, seed dispersal and insect consumption, they were less likely to harm or harass the bats, creating conditions where the bats were less stressed."

The proposed solutions are simple enough to articulate. But Plowright acknowledges that implementing them won't be easy.

"Land is extremely valuable," she says. "It's valuable for agriculture. It's valuable for mining, for development, and nature doesn't generate dollars."

Still, for Plowright, the answer is clear. "Nature doesn't stand up and say you have to fight," she says. "It's up to us to figure out a mechanism whereby we are protecting our future and the common interest of all."

Connections #293: Today's Answer and Hints (Saturday, March 30, 2024)

We have the solution to today's Connections puzzle, plus some hints if you want help solving it without spoiling your fun.

Quick Links

Today's connections (puzzle #293) category clues, connections solution for saturday, march 30, 2024, what made today's connections difficult, our top tips to beat connections every day.

Connections is an addictive puzzle from the geniuses at the New York Times. It requires players to find the connections between 16 words, and place them in four groups of four. We have the solution to Connections for March 30, 2024, along with hints to help you solve it yourself.

SPOILERS AHEAD (CLUES)

Today, as every day, you need to split the 16 words that make up the Connections puzzle grid into four groups of four based on specific categories. It isn't as easy as it sounds. Fortunately, we're on hand to help you solve today's Connections puzzle.

If you want to jump straight to today's Connections solution, scroll past the next spoiler warning. However, if you'd rather see some category clues designed to help you solve it without giving the answers away first:

Yellow: "What most of us do when walking uphill"

Green: "Preventing food from turning bad"

Blue: "Somewhere you don't want to be"

Purple: "It's a von Trapp!"

SPOILERS AHEAD (SOLUTION)

If those hints weren't helpful enough, and you find yourself struggling to beat Connections without running out of mistakes, here are the solutions for all four categories:

Yellow: "Breathes Heavily" = GASPS, HUFFS, PANTS, PUFFS

Green: "Preserves, as Meat" = CANS, CURES, SALTS, SMOKES

Blue: "Predicaments" = BINDS, JAMS, PICKLES, SPOTS

Purple: "Things in 'My Favorite Things'" = KETTLES, MITTENS, RAINDROPS, WHISKERS

Today's Connections puzzle was especially difficult due to two main things:

  • All 16 words are the plural form ending in "s," which adds another obstacle for our brains to navigate. Mentally removing the "s" from all the words could help.
  • There are other similarities between the colors too. Including "pickles" being another way of preserving food, and "smokes" being easily paired with the yellow set.
  • Shuffle the words as many times as you need. Shuffling the words around means you're more likely to spot the connections.
  • Look for differences as well as similarities. The NYT is trying to trip you up, so look for what divides the words with similar meanings.
  • Take your time, and don't rush into a guess. Connections isn't a timed challenge, so you have the luxury of planning everything out.
  • Look for common themes over time. The more you play Connections, the more you'll spot recurring themes cropping up regularly.
  • Tune into the NYT editors' way of thinking. It's the puzzle setters you're competing against, so you need to understand their game plan.

Now that you have completed today's Connections puzzle (with a little help from your friends at MUO), you should check out some of the other free games from the New York Times.

Wordle is the best-known of them all, and challenges you to find a 5-letter word within six guesses. For every letter you find, you get told if it's in the correct place, allowing you to whittle down the possible options. If you need help with Wordle, check out our tips and tricks to improve your Wordle score .

There's also Strands, the newest addition to the New York Times' burgeoning list of games. Just like Connections, it's extremely challenging, but in a unique string-the-letters-together way. Hey, everyone! Happy Easter Sunday to all those celebrating.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

In Connections , you’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb or rappers.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is typically the hardest one to deduce. The purple group often involves wordplay, so bear that in mind.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers.

What Are Today’s Connections Hints?

Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today’s Connections groups, I’ll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them.

Today’s 16 words are:

And the hints for today’s groups are:

  • Yellows — plummet
  • Greens — H2Os
  • Blues — smaller in the center
  • Purples — large (or perhaps small) mammals

What Are Today’s Connections Groups?

Need some extra help?

Be warned: we’re starting to get into spoiler territory.

Today’s groups are...

  • Yellow group — take a tumble
  • Green group — kinds of water
  • Blue group — things that are cinched in the middle
  • Purple group — ____ bear

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • Yellow group — take a tumble (FALL, SLIP, SPILL, TRIP)
  • Green group — kinds of water (MINERAL, SPRING, STILL, TAP)
  • Blue group — things that are cinched in the middle (CORSET, DIABOLO, HOURGLASS, WASP)
  • Purple group — ____ bear (BOO-BOO, BROWN, HONEY, TEDDY)

My first perfect game in a while give me back-to-back wins.

I found the yellows right away, then got a little stumped. I thought there might be something related to bears given BOO-BOO, TEDDY, HONEY and BROWN, but I wasn't totally convinced.

DIABOLO, HOURGLASS and CORSET had me thinking there'd be something to do with that kind of shape, but I didn't see a fourth word that would make sense with them. I couldn't quite picture the body of a WASP, but I took a gamble and it paid off.

Feeling good about that guess, I realized that my bear theory made sense, as the remaining words would then all be types of water. I'll happy take that perfect game.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for hints and the solution for Monday’s game if you need them.

P.S. I just found out that there are a ton of Yogi Bear episodes and specials (including an Easter-themed one!) on YouTube, so that's my Easter Sunday sorted.

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 hero stands in front of the Sphinx who offers all the sphinx riddles and solutions for “A Game of Wits” in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The Sphinx riddles comprise one of the most complex challenges in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , but are worth spending the time to solve. Though the quest for the Sphinx riddles ( “A Game of Wits” ) is an ordeal that sends you off the beaten path to complete ten intricate missions, you’ll reap some awesome rewards.

Before we begin, some good and bad news. The good news is that you can start “A Game of Wits” at any point in your playthrough. The bad news is that completing all Sphinx riddles can be a long and arduous process, especially if you approach the mission at a low level.

Don’t fret, though, as we’ve detailed the step-by-step process below. If you’re wondering how to complete “A Game of Wits , here’s everything you need to know, including where to find the Sphinx (both times!) and how to solve all Sphinx riddles .

‘A Game of Wits’ walkthrough in Dragon’s Dogma 2

“A Game Of Wits” is an optional quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 . You can start it by meeting the Sphinx up in the Mountain Shrine. At a glance, here are the steps you’ll need to complete to finish “A Game of Wits”:

  • Meet the Sphinx in the Mountain Shrine
  • Talk to her, then listen to and solve the first five riddles (there are ten total)
  • Once you complete the fifth puzzle, the Sphinx will fly toward a second location
  • Reunite with the Sphinx in the Frontier Shrine
  • Listen to and then solve the second batch of riddles, which will appear to you in random order
  • Once you complete the tenth riddle, you’ll officially “finish” the “A Game of Wits” side quest
  • But if you want to open the final chest, you’ll have to fight the Sphinx, which demands a specific strategy (more on this later, but you should change vocation to Archer once you’re on your eight or ninth riddle).

An important note is that failing a riddle will prevent you from unlocking its corresponding award . Or, in the worst-case scenario, the Sphinx will simply fly away , preventing you from completing the quest. You should rest at an inn (or your house ) before you visit the Sphinx.

The Sphinx offers a list of five Sphinx riddles in a dialogue tree during Dragons Dogma 2.

Below, we explain in detail how to solve all Sphinx riddles . Or, if you’re having trouble on a particular riddle, you can use this table of contents to navigate directly to the solution for the exact riddle you’re stuck on. Good luck.

Sphinx Location #1 in Dragon’s Dogma 2 (Mountain Shrine)

A map shows the first Sphinx location in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for the “A Game of Wits” side quest.

The first Sphinx location in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is in the Mountain Shrine . To get there, use Checkpoint Rest Town (near Battahl ) as a base camp. From there, you’ll have to follow a path up north, sticking to the western side of the map.

From Checkpoint Rest Town, exit through the northern entrance and follow the main path until you stumble upon the first road to the left. Take that through a valley with enemies, rolling boulders, and, thankfully, a campsite.

You’ll eventually be out in the open and into the Ancient Battleground . (You’ll know you’re in the right spot if you see a dragon and a cyclops fighting each other.) Proceed down the “main road” on your map, using the path with the rocks on the left side as a safe passage to avoid unnecessary confrontations. Continue moving through the castle walls, and you’ll eventually see an open gate covered with rocks. That’s your entrance.

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 hero stands near the entrance to a cave that leads to the first Sphinx location for “A Game of Wits.”

Once inside, head toward your left, ignore or fight the skeletons, and go up the circular staircase. Continue moving forward, past the ballista, and you’ll find a hole in the ground with a ladder, which looks like a Minecraft cave entrance with a hyperrealistic texture mod. Once you’re on the ground again, prepare to attack or ignore skeletons once more, and then follow the corridor with the stairs until you’re out in the open.

You’ll come across another staircase that leads to what seems to be a dead end. There’s a sleeping cyclops resting next to a ladder on the left, which is where we need to go next. Again, it’s up to you if you want to engage in a smackdown or not.

A cyclops sleeps in front of a ladder that leads to the first Sphinx location in “A Game of Wits” in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Then, use the staircase, follow the path toward the cave entrance, and you’ll be inside the Worldsend Cavern. Expect a few bandits and other enemies here, and a Seeker’s Token, which you’ll need for this mission.

Once outside the cavern, keep moving toward the next entrance. You’ll see a large enemy; feel free to ignore them.

After you’re through the second, more straightforward cavern, you’ll exit to Mountain Shrine . All you need to do is climb up the staircases to meet the Sphinx in all her glory. If you have any on-hand, you should temporarily place a portcrystal here — you’ll need to return to this spot for the first five Sphinx riddles.

Riddle of Eyes solution

An arrow points toward the chest you need to open in the Riddle of Eyes challenge for the Sphinx Riddle in ‘A Game of Wits’ in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

You can tackle the first five riddles in any other, but the Riddle of Eyes is so straightforward that you might as well complete it first. The Sphinx will point you toward a cave close to her location, and ask to retrieve an item.

To complete the Riddle of Eyes in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , enter the cave that the Sphinx points toward, take a few steps in, and look behind you. There’s a chest located above the door, next to the wall (as show in the screenshot above). Climb the rocks to get to it, grab the Sealing Phial , and return to the Sphinx. Give her the Sealing Phial to complete the riddle.

Riddle of Eyes reward: A Wakestone

Riddle of Madness solution

The main character places the main pawn in front of the Sphinx in the Riddle of Madness in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for the “A Game of Wits” main quest.

The Riddle of Madness sounds complex, but it’s quite straightforward. The Sphinx asks you to bring “your most beloved” to her, which hints at a character with whom you have a high affinity. But you can complete the Riddle of Madness by offering your main pawn.

To complete the Riddle of Madness in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , approach your main pawn and press the grab button to lift them on your shoulders. Then, take them to the altar in front of the Sphinx, and talk to her.

Confirm all the dialogue queries, and you’ll be set. (The Sphinx did mention something to me about being disappointed for only bringing one person, or “beloved,” in this case. But this didn’t hinder my progress nor affect the reward in any way.)

Riddle of Madness reward : A portcrystal (if this is your first portcrystal, place it near or just outside the Sphinx’s location)

Riddle of Wisdom solution

A menu shows details about a “SphinxParent” pawn for the Riddle of Wisdom solution to the Sphinx Riddles in “A Game of Wits” side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The Riddle of Wisdom requires you to recruit a specific pawn. The Sphinx is quite vague about the objective, but she will ask to show her a “parent.”

To complete the Riddle of Wisdom in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , you have to recruit a Pawn named “SphinxParent” from a Riftstone of Fellowship. If you find one with said name, make sure to inspect the profile first and verify that the creator is Capcom . That way, you avoid dupes.

If you haven’t come across a Riftstone of Fellowship yet, you’ll find one northeast of Checkpoint Rest Town, in a tower at the fork in the road. There’s a Riftstone of Fellowship inside; I found a “SphinxParent” pawn there. (Remember that, once you’re inside the rift, you can interact with the riftstone again to check the list of pawns at that stone.)

Some users have reported that pawns named “SphinxMother” and “SphinxFather” also work, but if you want to be 100% certain you have one who will do the trick, I’d recommend holding off until you come across SphinxParent. Once you find them, then recruit them and return to the Sphinx.

Back in the shrine, guide the pawn to the altar in front of the Sphinx, talk to her, and you’ll be set.

Riddle of Wisdom reward: 1,200 RC

Riddle of Conviction solution

A menu shows a Golden Trove Beetle going to the Sphinx in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for the Riddle of Conviction solution in “A Game of Wits.”

The Riddle of Conviction has the Sphinx asking you for what “you most prize” in the world. Literally any item will do the trick, but you should put some thought into your choice.

To complete the Riddle of Conviction in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , I offered the Sphinx a Golden Trove Beetle (those items that marginally increase your inventory size ). They’re simultaneously beneficial and plentiful — in fact, I found one near the first campsite you see as you’re traveling from Checkpoint Rest Town to Mountain Shrine.

According to both user reports and our own testing, you can give any item to the Sphinx to complete the Riddle of Conviction. The only difference in outcome is that’ll get a copy of whatever you give her, so it’s best to give her something rare (like, say, a portcrystal or Unmaking Arrow).

Riddle of Conviction reward: A copy of whatever you give the Sphinx (for me, it was another Golden Trove Beetle)

Riddle of Rumination solution

A person picks up a Finder’s Token in a cave for the Riddle of Rumination during the “A Game of Wits” side quest for Sphinx riddles in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The Riddle of Rumination is the trickiest of puzzle in the first batch of Sphinx riddles. I hope you remember where you found your first Seeker’s Token, as you’ll have to return to that location.

To complete the Riddle of Rumination, you have to revisit the spot where you found your first Seeker’s Token, and retrieve the Finder’s Token , which will be in the same place. Then, all you need to do is return to the Sphinx and give her the new token. Like The Ring , you have seven (in-game) days to tackle this quest, so beware of dozing off too many times after hearing this riddle the first time.

This riddle is a tricky one that doesn’t have a catch-all solution, as everybody’s experience is different. If you found a Seeker’s Token early on in the game, chances are, it was around the Vernworth, Melve, Northeastern Vermund, or Western Vermund regions. (Our guide to early Seeker’s Tokens can point you in the right direction.)

Now, how do you complete the Riddle of Rumination if you haven’t found a Seeker’s Token yet? This was my experience, and yes, there’s a trick to it if you’re stuck. The first one I found was inside the Worldsend Cavern. After hearing the riddle, I went back to the spot in the cavern, but the Finder’s Token wasn’t there.

If you’re trying to complete the Riddle of Rumination and you can’t find the Founder’s Token even though the location is the correct one, the next steps should help:

  • I searched for a second Seeker’s Token
  • I went to the Vocation Guild in Checkpoint Rest Town and bought a ferrystone for one Seeker’s Token
  • I slept until morning at the local inn
  • I then returned to the Worldsend Cavern and found the Finder’s Token

Riddle of Rumination reward: Three ferrystones

Sphinx Location #2 in Dragon’s Dogma 2 (Frontier Shrine)

A map shows the second Sphinx location in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for the “A Game of Wits” side quest with the Sphinx riddles and solutions.

Once you’ve completed the first five Sphinx riddles, she’ll fly away, kickstarting the second part of the quest. (It’s technically possible to make a run for it and grab onto the Sphinx before she takes off to fly on top of her — all the way to her second location — though you’ll leave a portcrystal and the fifth chest behind.)

The second Sphinx location in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is in the Frontier Shrine .

Once more, use the Checkpoint Rest Town as a base camp. Look at the map, and you’ll notice a riverside that cuts through the main road. This is a river found underneath the bridge outside of town. Follow it toward the western side of the map.

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 hero runs through a river in a ravine while finding the second Sphinx location for “A Game of Wits.”

This route will take you through an open cave. I recommend sticking to the right side, climbing any rocks that you come across, until you’re on the path to the right. You don’t want to plunge deep into the cave, but rather use it as a passage to continue venturing west.

Things will be fairly straightforward from here. The catch is that the road is filled with all sorts of powerful enemies. I’m talking hard boys, real biscuit boxers, including a Minotaur and a Chimera. I recommend making a run for it sticking to the main road as often as you can so you don’t get lost (or obliterated).

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 hero runs through the night toward the second Sphinx location for the “A Game of Wits” side quest.

You’ll eventually come across a path to the left (which heads south, using the map as reference), which is the road that leads to Frontier Shrine. You’ll easily recognize it because there’s a fallen pillar next to it. Prepare to smash the rocks blocking the entrance (a few hits with your weapon will do) and then make another sprint out of danger. The Sphinx is waiting for you on the far end.

Now, it’s time to solve the last five Sphinx riddles.

Riddle of Reunion solution

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 hero walks toward the Sphinx in the Riddle of Reunion for the “A Game of Wits” side quest.

Hey, a freebie! Even if that Chimera kicked your ass a few times getting here. To complete the Riddle of Reunion in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , you need to get to the second Sphinx location and talk to her. Yep, it’s as straightforward as it sounds. (If you have one, place a portcrystal here, as you’ll need to return a few times.)

Riddle of Reunion reward: 100,000 gold

A word before you continue to the next few riddles. The order for the second batch of Sphinx riddles in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is randomized . As such, it’s impossible to guess which riddle you’ll be getting next.

I’ll list the last few riddles as they appeared to me, but if you suddenly get a different one, don’t fret. Just scroll through the page (or use the table of contents near the top of this guide) to find the answers to your questions.

Without further ado...

Riddle of Contest solution

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 main character fights in the Riddle of Contest solution for the Sphinx during “A Game of Wits” side quest.

When you get the Riddle of Contest from the Sphinx, prepare for a fight. She will propose a duel, but one where you’ll be at a disadvantage.

As soon as the encounter begins, the game will automatically equip the Ring of Derision to your character, which lowers your stats to an absurd degree. Simply put, you must find another way to deal with the enemy.

To complete the Riddle of Contest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , you first have to stagger your opponent. How you do this will vary greatly on the vocation you’re using. As a Fighter myself, I used the Blink Strike skill a few times until the enemy was staggered. Whatever vocation you choose, play aggressively here, as you don’t want to lose the duel and fail the riddle.

Once the opponent is staggered, get close to them and grab them. Take them to the edge located to the right of the Sphinx, where all the pillars are, and toss them into the abyss . (R.I.P., they’d have loved the Eyrie.)

Riddle of Contest reward: The Ring of Ambition, which slightly boosts experience gained from defeating foes

Riddle of Futility solution

A map shows the location of Maurits in Bakbattahl for the Riddle of Futility for the “A Game of Wits” side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The Riddle of Futility is one of the tougher Sphinx riddles. For this one, she’ll ask you to take a vase to a character in Bakbattahl without breaking it. Yeah, no. Not dealing with that. If anything touches the vase, it’ll automatically break, causing you to fail the riddle. And yes, the road is full of enemies.

Before continuing, if you haven’t yet, you should seriously place a portcrystal near the Sphinx.

To complete the Riddle of Futility in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , you’ll need to head to the Mural Byway (north of the Mercantile Ward and west of the Residential Ward) in Bakbattahl, and talk to Maurits in the location above. Then, take Maurits back with you to the Sphinx. Drop the character close to the vase (not on top of it!!!) and the dialogue should play itself.

Maurits talks to the main character for the Riddle of Futility for the “A Game of Wits” side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

In order to teleport Maurits to the Sphinx, you can either use the Sealing Phial to capture them inside it, or grab them and fast travel to the Portcrystal outside the shrine.

Riddle of Futility reward: the Eternal Bond ring, which, when offered as a gift, itdeepens the bond between the giver and the receiver

Riddle of Differentiation solution

A main character talks to Vergil in the South Checkpoint Town in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for the Riddle of DIfferentiation during the “A Game of Wits” side quest.

Is the Riddle of Differentiation a Devil May Cry reference? Yes, it is. The Sphinx will show you a character for you to find and take to her. According to our testing, you’ll be shown either Dante or Vergil . And they look identical save for hair type: Dante has straight hair, Vergil has some mild waves.

To complete the Riddle of Differentiation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , find the NPC you’re shown and bring them back to the Sphinx.

Snap a screenshot of whoever the Sphinx shows you and use it as reference. Dante is in Checkpoint Rest Town on the Vermund side , while Vergil is located on the Battahl side . Capture your target with a Sealing Phial or grab them and use a ferrystone to teleport back to the portcrystal you placed near the Frontier Shrine (if you heeded our advice to place one there, that is).

Once you’re back at the Sphinx, drop Dante or Vergil on the altar in front of her and just chat to finish the riddle.

Riddle of Differentiation reward: Whimsical Daydream, a weapon for the Trickster vocation

Riddle of Recollection solution

An archer stands in front of the Sphinx during the Riddle of Recollection for the “A Game of Wits” side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

While the Riddle of Recollection might sound simple, don’t let it deceive you. The Sphinx will ask you to tell her how many challenges you’ve completed thus far. If you’ve been following the guide closely, you shouldn’t have failed any. But, in case you did and the Sphinx is still around in your game, take that into consideration.

In order to complete the Riddle of Recollection, you must deliver the Sphinx as many statues as riddles you’d solved up to that point.

I had completed nine riddles by this point, so I grabbed nine statues and took them to the altar in front of the Sphinx. It’s likely that the statues won’t all fit on top of the altar — this is fine, and the Sphinx will consider them anyway as long as they’re in front of her.

If you completed the first five riddles but are unsure about the second batch, you can look at the chests you’ve unlocked so far to complete the number . In case it’s worth repeating, the Riddle of Reunion does count for this, as it’s part of the ten riddles and, as such, has its own chest.

Riddle of Recollection reward: Unmaking Arrow, an arrow that kills anything in one hit, but automatically saves the game (unless you have a spare, do not use this , since you’ll use it to finish the “A Game of Wits” side quest)

How to open the final Sphinx chest in Dragon’s Dogma 2

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 hero picks up the key to the final Sphinx chest after completing all Sphinx riddle solutions in “A Game of Wits” in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Once you complete the tenth and final Sphinx riddle, you’ll have a short chat with the Sphinx, and she will flee the shrine shortly after. You’re likely to get an achievement or trophy for completing the quest, but this isn’t the end of it.

By this point, you should be using the Archer vocation. If you aren’t, reload to a previous save, look for a Vocation Guild, and then repeat the steps toward the last phase with the Sphinx.

To open the final Sphinx chest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 , you have to kill the Sphinx . I had the bad luck of having the Riddle of Recollection as my last challenge, since this demanded me to run to the chest, grab the Unmaking Arrow, equip it, turn around, and shoot the Sphinx before she fled.

In any case, you’ll want to make sure the Sphinx has a visible health bar before you fire the Unmaking Arrow. Then go ahead and equip it — you should see a glowing arrow as soon as you start aiming with the bow. Shoot at the Sphinx.

She will be momentarily staggered, and reappear in spirit form. You’ll have another short convo with her, and after a moment, she will leave at last, but not without dropping a few items first. Between them is the Key of Sagacity . This, as you might have guessed, is used to open the golden chest.

Your reward for completing all riddles for “A Game of Wits” and defeating the Sphinx afterward is the Eternal Wakestone . This item can revive multiple NPCs in a single use, as opposed to a regular Wakestone, which revives one NPC at a time. The Eternal Wakestone is also the best way to combat a Dragonsplague epidemic in your game.

Equity Summit 2024 graphics v1_lead image.png

The Equity Summit, July 25-26, 2024, is a virtual event for diversity, equity, and inclusion officers (and those doing the work without the title), as well as local government professionals interested in ideas and institutions to deepen strategies, shape actions, and create solutions.

Throughout two days, the event will create and foster relationships with like-minded professionals, as well as cover best practices, ideas, and innovations in the DEIB space and local government management profession.

This year’s theme:  "Keeping It Moving: The Power of Us" signifies the strength and effectiveness that comes from collective action, collaboration, and solidarity.

In DEI&B (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) circles, "Keeping It Moving: The Power of Us" emphasizes the notion that meaningful progress toward equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging is achieved when individuals, organizations, and communities come together to address systemic barriers, advocate for marginalized groups, and foster environments where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. Through this summit, ICMA seeks to equip and inspire DEIB professionals and their supporters, encouraging them to stay the course, particularly important in the context of our current sociopolitical environment.

Share ideas for session presentations in these tracks:

  • Equity Leader: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officers (and those doing the work without the title).
  • Local Government Leader: Chief Administrative Officers, Assistants/Deputies, Department Heads.

Selected in concert with the ICMA Equity Officer Cohort, ICMA seeks sessions with engaging speakers and presentations, focused on topics such as, but not limited to, these examples:

  • Foundational Principles of DEI&B.
  • Organizational Practices and Leadership.
  • Cultural Awareness and Social Impact.
  • Data Driven Approaches and Continuous Improvement.
  • Creative Engagement in an Era of Divisive Democracy.
  • The Future of DEI&B.

Presentation formats:

Sessions are generally 60 minutes in length and may be an educational session, panel and discussion, or virtual workshop. Details are included on the presentation submission form. Submissions will be accepted through April 12. Feel free to download the submission form for reference; however, submissions will only be accepted through the online presentation form
