The summary is too long, and being that it’s a PDF, it’s not easy to edit without doing a conversion first. And conversions of PDFs don’t always retain their formatting. You might end up doing more work in the long run than you would simply making a resume from scratch, or uploading it to Teal.

Method 3 (longest): LinkedIn to Resume Builder to PDF format

The second option LinkedIn offers is five steps.

  • Log in to LinkedIn and click the “Jobs” tab (suit case icon on mobile).

  • A pop-up will appear. Click “Create from profile."
  • The page will refresh and you’ll see another pop-up asking you to type in or select your desired position. Enter and click “Apply."

You should see the PDF file in the downloads folder of your computer. If you go back to the resume builder tab, you’ll also see recent resumes there, in case you need to easily download it again.

While this is designed to be as easy as possible, there are some downfalls to directly downloading or saving your resume from LinkedIn.

The biggest downfall of downloading your resume directly from LinkedIn is the formatting.

Beyond that, there is the fact you’re downloading a PDF version of your resume. So, if you do want to make some changes, you’re going to have to convert it into a word processing file format first, or purchase the premium version of Adobe Acrobat.

LinkedIn provides you with a means of uploading your resume into your profile. This comes in handy when making quick job applications as you don’t have to get to your email or mobile device to access it.

At the same time, from your profile, you can easily download all the content you shared and use it to generate a resume. This can save you lots of time instead of writing a resume from scratch.

Since there are different ways of doing these things, we want to show you how to go about it. Each method has its own pros and cons. Whichever method you prefer, keep going with it. You can also change to a more convenient one depending on your specific needs.

Let’s look at these methods and see how much LinkedIn can make your professional life easier.

HOW TO UPLOAD YOUR RESUME ON LINKEDIN

One of the most important documents for your career is the resume. How can you maximize the use of LinkedIn as far as your resume is concerned?

We’ll look at three easy ways of uploading your resume onto LinkedIn. These will help you be able to apply for jobs and even showcase your qualifications and professional experiences.

Here are the three ways of doing it.

1. Uploading your resume via settings

This is an easy way of getting your resume onto LinkedIn. And more than that, it probably gives you the most convenience when it comes to applying for jobs on the site.

In using this option, you choose to take advantage of LinkedIn’s feature of storing up to four of your recently-uploaded resumes. In other words, you can upload up to four different resumes which you can quickly use to apply for a job.

Obviously, these four resumes shouldn’t be the same. They should be different and tweaked to fit certain job types.

Despite this convenience, we’ll tell you this: having four resumes to choose from for jobs isn’t the best way to go about job hunting. Every job is unique and if you’re to increase your chances, you have to tailor your resume to every job.

All the same, you might have a situation where you’ve seen an ad and need a quick application. One reason might be that the deadline to apply is almost due. In such a case, using one of your resumes already on the site becomes useful.

So how do you get your 4 resumes onto LinkedIn?

Visit the Job application settings and ensure that the setting for saving resumes and answers is on. If the setting is currently off, use the toggle button to the right to switch it on.

Once that is switched on, scroll down to the section labeled Manage your resumes . Here you’ll see a button for uploading your resume. You can upload up to four resumes and they can only be in either Microsoft Word or PDF format.

There is also a file size limit which you must observe. Any resume file you seek to upload must not be more than 5MB. In most cases, your resume won’t be anywhere near 5MB. This is because resumes are mostly text.

However, when you include a picture of yourself in the resume, and the picture is high resolution enough, the size can be an issue. But this isn’t really likely to be the case since such images are usually headshots. Just to be safe, keep your resume’s size well below that limit.

2. Uploading your resume during the job application process

The second way you can upload your resume onto LinkedIn is when you’re applying for a job on the site. As a networking platform for professionals with over 30 million companies and 20 million job openings , obviously there must be a way to get your resume on the site for job applications.

Yes there is a way, because LinkedIn works hard to ensure they make it easier for companies to get the talent they want and for job seekers, the jobs they seek.

The first thing you do is search for a job on LinkedIn .

Once you spot a job you believe you qualify for, go ahead and click or tap (if using a mobile device) on the job title.

Next, click or tap on the Easy Apply button. This is your gateway to uploading your resume during the job application process. Below is an image showing a job opening with the Easy Apply button.

After clicking or tapping on the button, you’ll be taken through some fields which you’re required to fill.

Under Resume (optional) , select Upload resume . This will enable you to upload the resume you want to use to apply for the job. Take note of the recommended file size.

Once the resume is uploaded, click or tap the Submit application button.

The best way to go about such job applications is to get the details from the job post, crafting your resume accordingly, then embarking on the actual application process.

While using this method to upload your resume, it’s possible to find yourself making the application outside LinkedIn. This will happen if the job has an Apply button, and not an Easy Apply one.

When a job has the Apply button, you’ll still be able to apply but not from within LinkedIn.

When you click or tap the button, you’ll be routed to the website of the company having the job opening or the job board hosting the opening. It is here that you’ll complete the job application process.

Essentially, that means that you’ll not have uploaded your resume to LinkedIn. This is because the application process didn’t take place on the site.

Such a job application will be subject to the company’s or job board’s terms. For such a case, LinkedIn only served to popularize the job so as to help increase the number of applicants. This is good for the company as they’ll be utilizing different avenues in looking for the right candidate.

3. Uploading your resume using the Featured section

The last method of uploading your resume onto LinkedIn is using the Featured section. This is possible because LinkedIn provides you with an opportunity to upload different kinds of documents to showcase on your profile.

Although we’re looking at using this option to upload your resume, this method enables you to do much more than that. Other things you can add include links to external websites like your personal blog, LinkedIn posts you’ve created, articles you authored and published on LinkedIn and even photos and presentations.

This is the primary way of sharing such material, and in our case, your resume, with your network. Before showing you how to do it, here are a couple of things to keep in mind.

  • Anyone who can view your profile will be able to download your resume from your profile page. This is meant to be a convenience for employers though it can also pose a risk. If you want your resume on your profile, consider removing your personal information from it, mostly your mobile number and physical as well as email address.
  • The resume you upload using this method is going to be part of your LinkedIn profile. As such, you can’t use it to apply for a job. When applying for jobs, you’ll have to make use of either of the above methods.
  • When featuring posts, you won’t be able to feature posts from LinkedIn events which you’re attending. The same applies to LinkedIn groups which you are a part of. This is for the purposes of maintaining the privacy of the LinkedIn members in those events or groups.

Click the Me icon at the top if your LinkedIn homepage. From the drop-down list, select View profile .

From your profile page, click Add profile section and from the drop-down list, select Featured and then click Media or the “+” sign in the Media box.

A pop-up window will open from which you can navigate to where you’ve saved your resume. Select it and click Save , Open or Done , or whatever option you have for confirming your selection and closing the pop-up window.

This will upload your resume onto LinkedIn and you, as well as other LinkedIn users, will be able to see it on your profile.

We’ve seen how you can upload your resume onto LinkedIn. What about downloading it?

Well, if you can upload a resume, it only makes sense to be able to download it, right?

Yes, and LinkedIn has ensured that you can do that. In fact, there are two ways through which you can get your resume from the site.

Technically speaking, you cannot really download your resume from LinkedIn. What you’ll actually be doing is either saving your profile in a resume format or creating a resume using the information on your profile.

It’s more or less the same thing in the sense that at the end of the process you’ll have a resume from LinkedIn.

The first method we’ll look at is that of saving your profile is resume format, followed by the second method.

1. Save your profile in resume format

This is probably the most common way of getting a resume from LinkedIn. It’s also the fastest.

As soon as you click the button to get your resume, your browser immediately starts working towards it. You’ll be asked to either download it or open it so you can see how it looks like first.

Also note that you can use this method to download other LinkedIn users resumes. All you have to do is navigate to their profiles and follow the same steps.

Here’s how you go about it.

Go to your LinkedIn homepage and click the Me icon at the top and select View profile .

On your introduction card, which is the top part of your profile, click the More button and select Save to PDF .

Immediately upon selecting the option, a pop-up window will appear asking you whether you would like to open the resume or download it.

If all you want to do is take a look at it and gauge its suitability, then you can choose to open it. You’ll be able to view but not edit it.

If you’ve checked it our before and are satisfied with it, then select the download option. Having an offline copy also allows you to print it in case you need a physical one.

Downloading the resume can provide a very quick way to apply for jobs outside LinkedIn as long as the resume is reflective of your qualification. You can be sure that it reflects your qualifications and thus use this convenience if you’ve worked on your profile and made it attractive enough.

When using this method to get a resume from LinkedIn, there are some things to keep in mind:

  • In case you’re downloading another LinkedIn member’s profile as a resume, you can only download up to 200 PDF resumes per month. This limit doesn’t apply to your own profile though.
  • Whereas the PDF format is used everywhere, there are chances that some characters might not display properly. It is only the English language characters that you can be sure will display properly.
  • The resume you download through this method will not be editable. You’ll not be able to choose which sections should be included and which ones shouldn’t. If you want this ability, then the next method is the solution for you.
  • Although LinkedIn supports many languages and continues growing, the Save to PDF option isn’t available in some languages. These include Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Arabic and Thai.

2. Create resume using LinkedIn’s Resume Builder

LinkedIn provides a more robust method of creating a resume then downloading it in PDF format. If you want to make changes and tweak your resume to fit the needs of a specific job, then this is the option to use.

Previously, the option of using the LinkedIn Resume Builder was not available to every member. Only the premium accounts had access to it. LinkedIn has however made this available to everyone and so you can enjoy the feature for free.

Here’s how to go about it.

At the top of your LinkedIn homepage, click on the Me icon and select View profile .

On your introduction card, click the More button and select Build a resume .

You will then be guided through the process and get the chance of editing the resume.

It’s important to note that this resume will have only as much information as is available on your profile. And whereas the resume sections will be on the document, if your profile doesn’t have anything in the corresponding sections, the sections will be empty.

All the same, you’ll be able to make changes, including adding information to the resume as though you were writing a fresh resume. This is what makes this method the best between the two. The final document you download will be good enough for making an application with.

Still, on the resume editing page, you have the opportunity to preview the file, make a copy of it or even delete it.

How to Download Your Resume From the LinkedIn App

Ever been on your smartphone and wished you had a current version of your resume at your fingertips? There’s a good chance you already have access to a recent version of your resume–but you might not even realize it! LinkedIn has a little-known option to download up to four versions of your resume straight from the mobile app.

LinkedIn already offers a few options to create or access a resume document. The most common way to download your resume from LinkedIn is to navigate to your profile and save it as a PDF.

Where is the PDF resume in LinkedIn?

Go to your profile page and click on your profile picture or name.

Next, click on the “More” button, which will bring up a dropdown menu.

Select the “Save to PDF” option in order to download a PDF version of your resume.

Your resume will then be available as a PDF file at the bottom of your browser window or in your Downloads folder.

Now, all you have to do is open it and print it or save it to your computer. 

Once you save it to your computer, you can share it with yourself so that it will appear on your mobile device.

However, there are three limitations:

You can only do this from a desktop computer

The PDF is likely to be much longer than a resume should be. A resume should be one or two pages , while a comprehensive LinkedIn profile can easily be four or five pages

You can’t edit the PDF, which is a key part of finding a job fast

You also can’t download a featured resume from your LinkedIn . You can view it or take a screenshot, but you can't download, edit, or export your resume from LinkedIn this way.

Another option is “Easy Apply”

If you can't download your LinkedIn profile or save your featured resume from a mobile device, what are you meant to do? The answer is connected to LinkedIn’s Easy Apply feature.

Whether you’re applying for jobs from your desktop or mobile device, you’ve likely taken advantage of LinkedIn’s Easy Apply option. After all, you can apply for a job in just a few clicks.

Warning: this isn’t the best job search strategy...but it can't hurt if it's part of a balanced job hunt.

It doesn't matter if you apply from your phone or your computer; LinkedIn will automatically save your most recent resume submissions. With a little bit of know-how, you can quickly download your resume from LinkedIn’s mobile app. This guide will walk you through it in just a few easy steps.

Step 1: access your Easy Apply resume submissions

Once you’ve applied for a job using LinkedIn’s Easy Apply, you’ll automatically be able to access the resume you uploaded to LinkedIn next time.

To access your recent resumes from the LinkedIn app, find a job on LinkedIn with the Easy Apply option.

Tap on the Easy Apply button as if you’re going to apply for the job. Sometimes you have to hit “Next” to get to the screen with your resume on it.

Your four most recent resumes will appear with the dates you last used them.

Step 2: save your resume to your phone

Tap on the resume file you want to save. It should open on your phone.

Now, tap on your phone’s share icon. The picture and location will vary by phone type, but here are some common icons to look for:

  • Make sure your LinkedIn is filled with enough content.  Remember that an empty profile makes for an equally empty resume. Fill your LinkedIn profile with at least 200 words. For best results, you should have at least the About, Experience, and Education sections of your profile filled with content. The more the merrier.
  • Make sure your profile is not set to private.  Our tool needs to have the ability to access your LinkedIn profile. If your profile is set to private, only your connections can view it. Set your profile to public and try importing your LinkedIn profile again.
  • Make sure that your profile is more than 30 days old.  Sometimes it takes a few days for Kickresume to access your profile. While this usually takes less than the aforementioned 30 days, this time period gives us a bit of an overhead when diagnosing problems related to LinkedIn import.

Need to add your resume to your LinkedIn profile ? Or need to convert your LinkedIn to a workable resume? Have no fear! Here are easy steps you can follow to do either without any trouble.

Put Your Resume on  LinkedIn

If you sign into your account, then select the Profile menu from the bar at the top, there is an option to Edit, and then from those extended options, the option to Import Resume. A pop-up will give you a chance to select your file (up to 500kb: either .doc, .pdf, or .html).

In the Review Experience and Education interface, you can populate the fields and tweak the information as you need. Then simply save your changes with the botton at the bottom…. and voila!

Make a Resume from a LinkedIn Profile

One option for converting your LinkedIn profile to a gorgeous resume is the program Resumonk . It takes only a few minutes and two simple steps.

1. Download your profile as a PDF. Click on the Me link at the top, then View Profile. There’s a more icon ( “…” ) in the top section of your profile, click that and then select Save to PDF. That’s that!

2. Upload your PDF. If you already have a Resumonk account, simply log in and get started. Otherwise, sign up! If you have an existing resume saved to Resumonk, you can click the Edit button on the dashboard beside it. Otherwise select Create a New Resume . On the next page, there’ll be a button at the top called Import from LinkedIn . This will take you to another page where you can upload your new PDF.

Use the Preview & Customization page to change the template, fonts, colors, spacing, etc. Then click Save Design & Page Settings .b You can continue to edit your resume, or download it when you’re ready by selecting the download (in .pdf or .docx format) function.

If you already have a LinkedIn account, you may wonder what the point of adding a resume is---can't employers learn the same thing from looking at your profile? Well, unless you've made your entire profile public , they can't see it until you've added them as a connection. Making connections is time-consuming and inconvenient in the fast-paced world of hiring, and a public profile puts your privacy at risk.

If you upload a resume to your profile, visitors to your profile can get your skills and history in brief and share the resume with recruiters and employers. Saving your resume in your account settings will let you complete applications faster, and posting your resume to your feed puts it in front of everyone in your network. You only stand to gain from uploading your resume to LinkedIn, and it only takes a few clicks, so let's get started.

In case you don't already have a resume , you can generate one using the existing career details in your LinkedIn profile.

One way to showcase your resume on LinkedIn is to add it to your profile. This allows your profile viewers to view as well as download your resume. Note that you can't use this uploaded resume to apply for jobs on the platform; for that, you'll have to follow the second section below.

To begin adding your resume to your profile, launch your preferred web browser on your desktop and open LinkedIn . Sign in to your account on the site.

Then, in the site's top-right corner, click Me > View Profile.

On your profile page , beneath your name, click "Add Profile Section."

On the "Add to Profile" window, select Recommended > Add Featured.

Next to the "Featured" title, select the "+" (plus) sign and choose "Add Media."

You'll see your computer's "Open" window. Here, access the folder containing your resume and double-click your resume to upload it.

On the "Add Media" window, click the "Title" field and type a title for your resume. Optionally, fill in the "Description" field. Then, save your changes by clicking "Save" in the window's bottom-right corner.

And your resume has been successfully uploaded to your LinkedIn profile.

To make applying for jobs faster, you can upload and save your resume in your LinkedIn application settings menu. This way, the next time you come across a relevant job position, you can get LinkedIn to automatically attach your resume to your application.

You can only use your uploaded resume to apply to jobs that display LinkedIn's "Easy Apply" button. If a listing only shows "Apply," it'll redirect you to that company's website, and you'll likely have to upload your resume there.

To upload your resume for later applications, head to the LinkedIn site and sign in to your account. Then, from the menu bar at the top, select "Jobs."

In the left sidebar, click "Application Settings."

A "Job Application Settings" page will open. Here, in the "Manage Your Resumes" section, click "Upload Resume."

Your resume must be in DOC, DOCX, or PDF format. It must also be 5 MB or smaller in size.

You'll see your machine's "Open" window. Here, open the folder containing your resume and double-click your resume file.

And your selected resume is successfully uploaded to LinkedIn.

Next time you see a job listing, simply click the "Easy Apply" button and you can use your saved resume on LinkedIn to apply for the job.

Like all other social media sites, LinkedIn lets you create and publish public posts. You can add your resume to these posts and let your followers see it in their feed, ideally getting the attention of an employer in your network.

To use this method, access LinkedIn , sign in to your account, and select "Start a Post" at the top.

On the "Create a Post" window, you'll enter the text that will go along with your resume in your post.

First, click the large text field and add a few sentences in your post. This could be related to why you're uploading your resume, where your expertise lies, or similar.

Then, at the bottom, click "Add a Document" (an icon of a paper).

You'll see a "Share a Document" window. Here, to upload your resume from your computer, click "Choose File." To add your resume from Dropbox or Google Drive, select the appropriate option.

We'll upload the resume from our local storage.

In your computer's "Open" window, navigate to your resume folder and double-click the resume file.

Back on the "Share a Document" window, click the "Document Title" field and enter a title for your resume. Then, in the window's bottom-right corner, select "Done."

On the "Create a Post" window, add other details if you want. Then, publish your post along with your resume by clicking the "Post" button.

And that's all. Your post will appear in your audience's feed, allowing them to read your text content as well as view your uploaded resume .

With more than 1 billion users worldwide and 67 million companies on the site, it's a go-to resource to network, recruit, find and apply for jobs, promote your expertise, and more. 

So, if you're not on LinkedIn, create an account as soon as possible. For those of you who are on LinkedIn, you might be wondering if you should include LinkedIn on your resume. Great question!

In other words, as soon as your resume grabs the attention of a recruiter or hiring manager, it's likely that they're going to quickly do an online search to learn more about you, starting with LinkedIn. 

So, if you've been wondering if recruiters and hiring managers really do check LinkedIn, now you know that they do. As a result, you should definitely include your LinkedIn URL on your resume. But, before you take that step, you must ensure that your profile is current and professional. 

How to update your LinkedIn profile before sharing your URL

Even if you choose not to include your LinkedIn URL on your resume, based on the stats above, it's still probable that hiring teams will look for it anyway. So, first things first, you need to ensure your LinkedIn profile has all the necessary elements and is professionally written. The last thing you want is for a hiring manager to find your profile halfway complete - that scenario is likely to put your resume in the thanks-but-no-thanks pile. 

While it's true that your LinkedIn profile and resume need to align with each other, the great thing about your LinkedIn profile is that it gives you the chance to share more about yourself than your resume can highlight - another reason to be sure to include LinkedIn on your resume. Your LinkedIn profile provides you with a unique opportunity to showcase your personality and all of your professional history - it's a way to highlight your personal and professional brand. 

To ensure your profile is up to par and does what it's meant to do (land an interview and help you to get hired), you want to customize it as follows:

Include a professional photo and cover image

Craft a catchy headline

Add a standout summary in the “About” section

Add your work history in detail

Include all of your skills

Seek endorsements

If you don't currently have a LinkedIn profile, use caution when rushing to create one. Yes, you want to have a profile up and running as soon as possible - especially if you're in the market for a new job - but don't create it in haste. Instead, when you're ready, give it some thoughtful consideration and take the time required to ensure it's a profile you're proud to share with employers. 

Another essential step to take before adding your LinkedIn URL to your resume is personalizing it. Yes, you could use the LinkedIn-generated URL that includes your full name followed by a string of seemingly random numbers and text at the end, but doing so looks unprofessional. In the examples below, if you compare how a LinkedIn-generated URL looks with how a customized URL looks, which is better?

Not only does the customized URL look more professional, it's also easier to recall. Plus, not customizing your URL can make you come across as being lazy or not caring enough about your job application.

Now that you're clear it's essential to customize your LinkedIn URL, here are the steps to do so:

Log into your LinkedIn profile

On the upper middle to right side of the LinkedIn navigation, click on the “Me” icon

From the menu that appears, click on “View Profile”

Select “Edit public profile & URL” from the top right corner, which will take you to your public profile settings

Click on the pencil icon below and to the right of “Edit your custom URL”

Customize the last part of the URL where you can enter information and click “Save”

Ways to customize and personalize your LinkedIn URL

LinkedIn allows you to customize your URL with 3 to 100 numbers or letters. When choosing what to use for the customized aspect, first remove any random string of text or numbers following your name. If your name alone isn't available, the next best option is to use a variation of your name that is still recognizable and professional. You can also include your job title or profession for URL customization.

Here are some examples of how to personalize your URL:

Add an available and easy to remember number at the end: linkedin.com/in/jamesjones25

Use your title or area of expertise: linkedin.com/in/jamesjoneshrgeneralist

Include your credentials: linkedin.com/in/jamesjonesCPA  

Add a phrase that relates to your personal brand: linkedin.com/in/jamesjonesmortgageloanexpert

Where to include a LinkedIn URL on your resume

You're likely not surprised to learn that your LinkedIn URL should go at the top of your resume with your contact information . It's typically the last piece of contact information you'll include, following your phone number and email address.

When sending your resume by email, it's also wise to include your hyperlinked LinkedIn URL in your email signature. This offers easy access to your LinkedIn profile before the recruiter or hiring manager even looks at your resume. It's a good idea to include your LinkedIn URL in the contact information section of your cover letter , too.

How to put your LinkedIn URL on your resume

When listing your LinkedIn URL:

You don't need to include the "https://www." at the beginning. Only listing the rest of the URL is sufficient - for example, linkedin.com/in/karenjohnson22

You don't need to include a LinkedIn label for the URL - the employer will know what the URL is referencing since all LinkedIn URLs begin with "linkedin.com/in/" 

Hyperlink the URL in electronic versions of your resume

On the rare occasion that you might mail a hard copy of your resume, be sure the URL is easily legible and remove the hyperlink

How to put LinkedIn on a resume: example

When you've added your LinkedIn URL to your resume, it could look like this:

When not to include a LinkedIn URL on your resume

It's clear that putting LinkedIn on your resume adds value in most instances. However, there are a few scenarios where you shouldn't include LinkedIn on your resume. 

Don't include your LinkedIn URL if:

You haven't customized your LinkedIn URL. As mentioned earlier, not customizing your URL might make you appear lazy to recruiters and hiring managers. Since the LinkedIn-generated URL also tends to be long and odd-looking, it could be distracting to human readers vs. adding value the way you want it to.

Your profile is out-of-date and incomplete. Again, it's imperative that your LinkedIn profile is current and complete if you're in the job market and share your URL on your resume.

You don't feel good about your profile. Even if your LinkedIn profile is current, if you don't feel good about it or don't feel it represents you in the best light possible, don't include the URL on your resume. Instead, wait until you've made the updates and changes that make you want to share it. With that said, since employers tend to look you up even if you don't include your URL, try to make those changes with thoughtful consideration sooner rather than later - especially if you're currently applying for jobs. You also have the option of switching your profile to private until you're ready to make it public.  You can always seek professional support to help you update your profile if you're struggling to do so yourself. 

Your LinkedIn profile merely mirrors your resume. A benefit of including your LinkedIn URL on your resume is that it gives hiring teams insight into additional skills and experiences you have, as well as who you are as a person. If your LinkedIn profile and resume are virtually the same, then hiring teams might wonder why you included the URL at all. 

How to add LinkedIn Learning to your resume

If you have a LinkedIn learning certificate, it can be a valuable addition to enhance your job marketing materials. Here are some ways to include LinkedIn Learning on your resume:

Include it in your Certifications section. The most obvious place to include a LinkedIn Learning certificate is in your list of certifications, if you include such a section on your resume. 

Share it in your Education section . Suppose LinkedIn Learning is your only certification or additional training beyond your education. In that case, you can choose to list it with your education. For this scenario, some good naming conventions for the section are “Education & Certifications” or “Education & Credentials.”   

Reference it in your resume summary. You might mention your LinkedIn Learning certificate in your resume summary , if it helps to fill in any skills gaps you have or if you lack relevant work experience for the position.

Add it to your skills or competencies list. If you don't need to emphasize your LinkedIn Learning training in your summary, or are forgoing a Certifications section on your resume, then you can opt to list it in your skills or competencies list. 

LinkedIn on your resume is expected

In today's world, employers expect to see your LinkedIn URL on your resume. Be sure to include your personalized URL with your contact information and, simultaneously, ensure your LinkedIn profile is professionally written and up to date. Hiring managers will thank you!

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Alexis Taub , a former JPMorgan employee from New York City. It has been edited for length and clarity.

I was hired two years in a row for summer internships at JPMorgan . The first internship was in securities, and the second was in prime brokerage as an account manager.

I was hired full time as an analyst in prime brokerage in 2015 and was eventually promoted to associate. I stayed at the firm until 2018.

The application and interview process for the prime-brokerage roles was comprehensive, and there was a steep learning curve on how to assist clients. I mainly supported and learned from more-senior team members until becoming an associate, where I was the main point of contact for my assigned customers.

Here's my advice on how to navigate the interview and get hired at JPMorgan .

The internship program is one of the best ways to get a full-time position at the firm

I decided I wanted to work in finance freshman year, and I set my sights on JPMorgan , given its reputation as an industry leader with an amazing culture. Interning during my sophomore year allowed me to learn about the company, figure out the most compelling groups, and network throughout the summer.

The full-time analyst class is almost all people who were part of the internship program. It's difficult to get an analyst position without completing an internship.

I didn't have to interview for the full-time position. On the last day of the internship, everyone met with HR and was either presented with an offer letter or told they weren't offered a position.

Start building your résumé years in advance

Start as early as possible to build experience, participate in extracurriculars relevant to your desired position, and show your passions. I fundraised for breast-cancer research, was a teaching assistant for a marketing and business-analysis course, and was a peer mentor.

Related stories

Extracurriculars should be something you're genuinely interested in and should show a story over multiple years. They're discussed in the interview, and a candidate's passion for these activities comes through — especially with follow-up questions.

Research the job position and the different groups

Researching the company is essential for positions right out of college. For JPMorgan 's internship and analyst programs, you're usually placed in a large group with many different focus areas. You can have a particular interest in one, but be knowledgeable about all of them. I was drawn to prime brokerage because it's fast-paced, and I wanted to be in a client-facing role.

I interviewed with the prime-brokerage group and three other departments. If you're only familiar with one group, it will show up negatively to the other groups you talk to.

Everyone asked me the same question

The first question I was asked by all four of the people who interviewed me was " tell me about yourself ." You should be prepared with a solid answer because that will set the tone for the interview. Answers should be concise, show your passion for the position, and share a bit about yourself.

I rehearsed my answer over and over again. I showed my research on the department and positions within and shared background on my coursework and my previous internships, as well as the parts of the job that most interested me. You should mention anything that helps you stand out and shows you in a positive light, like accomplishments and grades .

In one interview, I was given a couple of brain puzzles, like how big is this room? The main objective of this question was to show how you approach a challenge, not if you know the correct answer. I counted the tiles on the ceiling and said, "Let's assume each one is one foot." While I knew they weren't one foot, I tried to choose a number that kept the math simple.

Once you land an internship, you go back for placement day

When you're granted a spot in the internship program, you go in again to find out who you'll be working with.

On placement day, each intern meets with more than 20 groups to learn about the specific roles within the larger investor services. It's then a matching game. The interns rank the groups they'd like to be in, and the groups rank the interns. I got my top group during my second year, and then my analyst offer was to that group.

The best way to get a full-time job from the internship is to demonstrate 3 traits

If you want a full-time offer at the end, show your excitement for the position, be curious, and be as helpful as possible. I was constantly asking my team what I could help with.

I couldn't have had a better job to start my career. My JPMorgan teammates spent hours each day helping me with tasks most people wouldn't want to be bothered with — whether it was strategies for organizing my inbox or proofreading my emails. I also had an incredible manager who dedicated a substantial amount of time to teaching me the nuances of prime brokerage.

I was happy with the work-life balance

The typical day was 8 to 6, and most people would leave by 6. While it could be intense during the day with clients, I was not expected to work once I left for the day and was happy with my work-life balance .

I always wanted to start my own business, so with the manageable hours, I was able to start a direct-to-consumer jewelry website, which eventually became the full-time job I have now.

There are endless career opportunities at JPMorgan . I recommend scouring the website beyond just the classic investment-banking and sales-and-trading positions to find one that aligns with your skills and interests.
