اہم حقیقت یہ ہے کہ کوئی بھی کمپنی یا ادارہ بغیر محنت کے نہیں چل سکتا لیکن اس کا یہ مطلب نہیں کہ کمپنی کے لیے کام کرنے والے کسی بھی ملازم کو نظر انداز کر دیا جائے۔ کمپنی کو 8 گھنٹے کام کرنے کے بعد یقینی بنانا چاہیے کہ کارکنوں یا ملازمین کے ساتھ ذات، مذہب، عقیدہ، جنس، معذوری وغیرہ کی بنیاد پر امتیازی سلوک نہیں کیا جاتا ہے اور انہیں مسابقتی اجرت یا تنخواہ دی جاتی ہے۔ مزید برآں، ہر کارکن سب سے پہلے ایک فرد ہے اور اس لیے اس کا احترام کیا جانا چاہیے خواہ اس کا عہدہ یا ملازمت کچھ بھی ہو۔

یہ بھی سچ ہے کہ مزدور ہماری ہندوستانی معیشت اور صنعتی ترقی کا محرک ہیں۔ مزدوروں کا بھی بڑا سیاسی اثر و رسوخ ہے کیونکہ مزدور کے کچھ مسائل نے بہت سی سیاسی جماعتوں کو انتخابات جیتنے میں مدد کی ہے۔ مزدور مختلف طریقوں سے بہت مدد کرتے ہیں جیسے کارخانے چلانے، سڑکیں بنانا، عمارتیں بنانا، تیل نکالنا وغیرہ۔

آج کے محنت کش اتنے جاہل یا ان پڑھ نہیں ہیں کہ وہ اپنے حقوق کو نہ سمجھ سکیں یا انہیں آسانی سے دبایا جا سکے لیکن کچھ بڑی کمپنیاں ایسی ہیں جو دور دراز کے علاقوں یا دیہاتوں سے مزدور درآمد کرتی ہیں۔ یہ لوگ بھونڈے ہیں اور چونکہ یہ غریب بھی ہیں وہ کسی بھی شرط پر کام کرنے پر راضی ہیں۔ ہماری تنظیم کے ارکان ان علاقوں کا سفر کرتے ہیں اور ان کے مسائل سنتے ہیں اور اسے ریاستی حکومت کے سامنے اجاگر کرتے ہیں اور ان کی بہتری کے لیے کام کرتے ہیں۔ ہم نے دیہاتوں میں بہت سے اسکول کھولے ہیں اور بچوں کے ساتھ ساتھ بڑوں کو بھی تعلیم فراہم کی ہے۔

یہ تہوار پوری دنیا میں ایک تاریخی اہمیت اختیار کر گیا ہے اور اسے پوری دنیا میں مزدور تنظیمیں مناتی ہیں۔ کارکن ہمیشہ ہماری زندگیوں کو بہتر بنانے کے لیے کوشاں رہتے ہیں اور درحقیقت وہ اپنے کام کے لیے عزت کے مستحق ہیں۔ ہندوستان میں یہ یوم مزدور پہلی بار 1923 میں منایا گیا۔ یہ دن دنیا بھر کے محنت کش طبقے اور مزدوروں کے حقیقی جذبے کے احترام کا ایک خاص موقع ہے۔ یہ وہ دن ہے جب مزدور اپنی طاقت کا جشن منانے کے لیے اکٹھے ہوتے ہیں جس سے ظاہر ہوتا ہے کہ وہ لڑ رہے ہیں اور معاشرے کے محنت کش طبقے کے لیے مثبت اصلاحات لانے کے لیے جدوجہد جاری رکھیں گے۔

ہم سب کو محنت کش طبقے کی ہر صورت میں حفاظت کرنی چاہیے۔ یہ واقعی ایک خصوصی افرادی قوت ہے جو معاشرے کی فلاح اور بہتر زندگی کے لیے مسلسل جدوجہد کرتی ہے۔ اگرچہ یہ دن بیشتر ممالک میں قومی تعطیل کے طور پر منایا جاتا ہے لیکن ہمیں اس دن کو تعطیل کے طور پر نہیں منانا چاہیے بلکہ محنت کشوں کی کاوشوں، سرگرمیوں اور سچی لگن کو تسلیم کرنا چاہیے۔ ہمیں اپنے بچوں اور دیگر اتحادیوں کو بھی اس دن کو اپنے طریقے سے منانے کی ترغیب دینی چاہیے اور اس دن کی اہمیت کو جاننا چاہیے۔

السلام علیکم سامعین کرام! میں اس وقت جو موضوع لے کر آپ کے سامنے حاضر ہوا ہوں وہ جان کر آپ کو خود اندازہ ہو جائے گا کہ ہم موجودہ دور میں کتنے نازک وقت سے گزر رہے ہیں۔ جیسا کہ ہم سب جانتے ہیں کہ یکم مئی کے روز یومِ مزدور منایا جاتا ہے۔ لیکن کیا کبھی آپ نے غور کیا کہ نابالغ بچوں سے جو محنت مزدوری کروائی جاتی ہے وہ کس زمرے میں آتی ہے؟ کیا کبھی یہ جاننے کی کوشش کی کہ ہمارے ملک میں موجود کتنے ہی بچے محنت مزدوری کر کے اپنا گزر بسر کرتے ہیں۔ جانے کتنے ہی پھول سے بچے ہیں جن کے نازک ہاتھوں میں کتابیں کھلونوں کی جگہ اینٹ اور سیمنٹ جیسی چیزیں ہوتی ہیں۔

صدر عالیٰ وقار کتنے ہی پیارے چہرے ایسے ہیں جن پر مسکراہٹ کی بجائے تفکر کے آثار نمایاں ہوتے ہیں۔ ان سب کی وجوہات یہی ہو سکتی ہیں کہ اول تو ان بچوں کے والدین نہ ہوں یا پھر ہوں تو معذور ہوں۔ دوم انہوں نے غربت و افلاس میں ہی آنکھیں کھولی ہوں اور سوم یہ کہ حالات نے انہیں اس کام پر مجبور کیا ہو۔

سامعین کیا کبھی آپ میں سے کسی نے یہ سوچا ہے کہ یہ ننھے بچے جنہیں آپ چھوٹا کہتے ہیں یہ اپنے گھر کے بڑے ہوتے ہیں۔ ان کا بھی دل کرتا ہے کہ ہم اچھا پہنیں ، اچھا کھائیں ، خوشی سے رہیں لیکن وقت انہیں ان کے بچپن سے کھینچ کر بڑا ہونے پر مجبور کردیتا ہے۔ ہم مکمل طور پر ان کی پرورش کی ذمہ داری نہیں اٹھا سکتے ہیں تو نہ سہی لیکن ہم ان کے لیے کم از کم کچھ تو کر ہی سکتے ہیں۔ تو ہمیں کرنا یہ ہے کہ اول تو کسی ایسے بچے کو جو ہمارے اطراف میں مزدوری کرتا ہے اسے خوش رکھیں کچھ نہیں تو پاس سے گزرتے ہوئے اسے ایک مسکراہٹ ہی کا تحفہ دیتے جائیں۔

محترم لوگو جب کبھی ہمارے گھر میں کسی بھی نوعیت کا کوئی فنکشن ہو تو انہیں بھی اس کا حصّے دار بنائیں۔ انہیں یہ احساس قطعی نہ ہونے دیں کہ وہ اجنبی ہیں یا ان فٹ سے ہیں۔ اگر آپ انھیں اپنی کفالت میں نہیں لے سکتے تو کم از کم اتنا کریں کہ ہر ماہ کچھ پیسے جو آپ پیزا کھانے ، دوستوں کے ساتھ گھومنے ، شاپنگ کرنے میں اڑا دیتے ہیں ان میں سے کچھ پیسے بچا کر ان پیارے بچوں میں تقسیم کر دیا کریں۔ لیکن خیال رہے کہ اس دوران نہ ہی آپ کے چہرے پر احسان کا کوئی تاثر ہو، نہ ہی دل میں کوئی گمان ، کیوں کہ نیکی کر کے آپ ان کا نہیں خود کا بھلا کر رہے ہیں۔

بچے پھولوں کے مصادق ہوتے ہیں آپ اگر انہیں اس دلدل سے نکال نہیں سکتے تو کوشش کریں کہ ان کو آپ کی طرف سے کوئی تکلیف بھی نہ ہو اور آپ کا عمل انہیں خوشی دے۔ سامعین کرام حکومت نے جو پالیسیاں بنائی ہیں ان سے ننھے مزدوروں کو واقف کرائیں تاکہ وہ اگر آپ کا احسان نہیں لینا چاہیں تو کم از کم خود کے لئے راہیں ہموار کر لیں۔ بچے قوم کا مستقبل ہیں اور اس مستقبل کو سنوارنا بگاڑنا آپ کی ذمہ داری ہے۔ اب یہ آپ کا کام ہے کہ ملک کے اس معمار کی مدد کریں اور ہوسکے تو ان کے ہاتھوں میں کتابیں تھمائیں تاکہ ہمارا ملک مستقبل میں ترقی کی جانب ہی گامزن رہے۔ شکریہ۔

Labour Day (Labor Day) celebrates workers' achievements in many countries including in Pakistan.

What Do People Do?

Labor unions throughout Pakistan organize seminars, rallies and parades where union leaders deliver speeches emphasizing the history of Labor Day and its importance. Workers and unions arrange street processions, and this portrays solidarity with workers around the world.

Pakistan is a developing country but the current scenario has improved compared to previous times. However, workers still do not enjoy as many rights as enjoyed by workers in more developed/industrialized countries. Many organized street demonstrations take place on Labor Day, where workers and labor unions protest against labor repression and demand for more rights, better wages and benefits.

Public Life

Labor Day is a public holiday in Pakistan on May 1. All government and non-government organizations, factories and educational institutions remain closed. Laborers may willingly work on Labor Day, with or without payment of higher than normal wages.

Public transport may be less frequent on certain routes. Those wishing to travel in Pakistan via public transport during Labor Day should check with the local transport authorities before travelling. Many important avenues and streets are blocked to accommodate Labor Day parades and processions. Therefore, there may be traffic jams at certain times of day on certain routes.

Pakistan’s first labor policy was devised in 1972, in which May 1 was declared an official holiday. This policy also formulated the creation of the Social Security Network, Old Age Benefit Schemes and Workers Welfare Fund. Pakistan’s constitution also contains various provisions and articles about labor rights.

It is important to note that Pakistan became a member of the International Labour Organization (ILO) right after its independence in 1947. The ILO is a United Nations (UN) specialized agency that promotes social justice and universally acknowledged human and social rights. Pakistan has ratified 36 ILO conventions of which eight are core conventions.

There are no specific symbols associated with Labor Day in Pakistan. Images of hammers and sickles are frequently seen on placards and banners carried by workers during Labor Day parades and rallies.

Origin of Labour Day

It was first celebrated in Chennai (then Madras) in 1923 and its history dates back to 1886. This was the day on which labour union of the United States of America takes the decision to go on a strike for the fulfilment of their demands.

Celebration in India

May Day or Labour Day is known by many names such as ‘Kamgar din’ or ‘Antarrashtriya Shramik Diwas’ in Hindi, ‘Uzhaopalar Naal’ in Tamil and ‘Kamgar Diwas’ Marathi.
Annually we celebrate this day for the achievements and to encourage the workers.

In the province of Madras (now Chennai) India celebrated its first Labour Day in the year 1923.
The Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan was the first group that organized the May Day celebrations in India.
