Our courses are accredited by professional accountancy bodies. Students are able to get exceptions from professional exams from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
Our accreditations give students a head start on completing professional qualifications to become a Chartered Accountant and demonstrate that our courses are industry relevant. Course structure
You will gain the skills and knowledge to work effectively in the fast-paced world of business and financial services. To help you prepare for your career, we guide you to think critically, enabling you to analyse and interpret real-life issues in Accounting and/or Finance to come up with creative solutions.
In the first year you will develop your skills across the core disciplines of accounting, economics, finance and mathematics, as well as choosing at least one optional unit.
In year two you will study financial accounting, management accounting and finance in more depth, learning more advanced theory and techniques alongside optional units.
In your final year you will have flexibility and a wide choice of optional units. You may choose to specialise and strengthen your skills in a particular area, or keep your options open and follow a broader path.

Description.
The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise saw the Bristol Department of Finance and Accounting rated fourth in its Unit of Assessment. The result is a true reflection of the high research quality within the Department. Research in the Department spans a number of areas, primarily in finance, management accounting and public sector accounting.
Research Groups The main research themes reflect the interests of staff members. The particular strengths of the Department lie in applied financial econometrics (Evarist Stoja), auditing (Yingfa Lu), empirical finance (Daniella Acker, George Bulkley, Sylvain Friederich, Paula Hill, Piotr Korczak, Neslihan Ozkan), financial reporting (Mike Jones), management accounting (Stephen Lyne), and public sector accounting (Sheila Ellwood). Requirements
An upper second-class honours degree in a related subject (or equivalent qualification), and/or a Masters qualification in a related subject.
English Language Requirements
IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
The IELTS test is most widely accepted by universities and is also accepted for Tier 4 visas to the UK- learn more.

Introduction.
Faculty of Business and Law at the University of the West of England in Bristol invites applications for a fully funded PhD studentship in accounting, finance, and economics.
Proposed doctoral projects may be discipline-specific or cross-disciplinary. The closing date for applications is 12 June 2022. The start date of this studentship is 1 October 2022.
About the studentship
The studentships reflect ongoing commitment of the Faculty of Business and Law at UWE Bristol to the development of its doctoral programmes.
The Faculty’s distinctiveness in research and scholarship comes from its applied nature, and a focus on real-world, current issues for organisations and society. We have direct intention of helping to resolve pressing challenges, including improving organisational practices and behaviours and understanding systems and structures, whilst taking an inclusive approach. Prospective students will be based in the Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance, which is home to several multidisciplinary research groups .
Doctoral students at the Faculty benefit from comprehensive support and guidance from the Graduate School , including extensive professional development programme and careers advice.

The studentship is available from 1 October 2022 for a period of three years, subject to satisfactory progress, and includes a tax-exempt stipend, which is currently £16,602 per annum.
In addition, full-time home/international tuition fees will be covered for up to three years.
As part of the studentship, the prospective students will be expected to perform some teaching duties in their subject area, and deliver two hours of teaching-related tasks a week in the first and third year of studies, and four hours in the second year. This forms part of the terms and conditions of the studentship and there is no additional payment for it.
Eligibility
Applicants must have at least 2:1 degree in accounting, finance or economics or cognate area, and ideally Masters degree (with average programme mark of no less than 65%, UK grading scale or international equivalent).
A recognised English language qualification is required. IELTS score of 7.0 overall, or equivalent.

- Prepare your research proposal. This should ideally happen in consultation with your potential supervisor. In the first instance you should contact a potential supervisor with initial ideas to confirm they are willing to support your application.
