How can I remove a submission from the assignment inbox?

If you would like to remove a submission from an assignment, you can do this from the relevant assignment inbox. Within the assignment, tick the checkbox for the paper you wish to remove; the Delete drop-down option will then appear. Click on the Delete button and select Remove From Inbox . This will remove the paper from the assignment. Once a paper is removed from an assignment, instructors can then resubmit on behalf of the student, or the student can resubmit to the assignment themselves, if needed. Please be aware that papers deleted from the assignment inbox are not permanently deleted. If a paper is submitted to the global repository, removing it from the assignment will not remove it from our database. If you wish to permanently delete a submission and remove it from our database, you may be able to raise the deletion request with your Turnitin account administrator by selecting Request permanent deletion form the Delete drop-down menu instead. Using the OneDrive Assignments App
The OneDrive Assignments App enables instructors to assign Microsoft Word Docs, Excel Spreadsheets, PowerPoint Slideshows, and other Microsoft assets from directly within the Schoology platform. Once assigned, students can make their own copies of the content to work on and submit, and the instructor can then provide feedback and grade the assignment, all without leaving Schoology.
- To use OneDrive Assignments, You must install the app from the Schoology App Center, accessible from the header in your Schoology account.
- If you are using Schoology Assignments simultaneously with Microsoft Teams Assignments, it is recommended as best practice to disable Teams Assignments to avoid repetition between the two platforms.
Adding Microsoft Content to Schoology Assignments
Instructors can add content from their OneDrive accounts directly from within a Schoology Assignment.
Create an Assignment using the OneDrive Assignments App
- From the Courses menu at the top of the screen, select the course in which you're adding the assignment.
- Click the Add Materials button at the top of your Course Materials page. You can also access the Add Materials button from within a folder.
- From the Create Assignment screen, click OneDrive Assignments to open your OneDrive.
If necessary, click Connect to approve the app and log in to your OneDrive account.
Instructors and Students must also be logged into a Microsoft account through their browser to work on and submit assignments using the OneDrive app.
- Enter words or phrases in the Search pane to filter your results. Enclose phrases in single quotes (apostrophes) to search for that exact phrase. Items matching your search terms populate automatically in the results list.
- You can only choose one Microsoft file per Schoology Assignment. To choose a different file, click the x in the right margin to delete the current file, then re-open the OneDrive Assignments app to select another file from your Drive.
- Fill in the rest of the assignment and click Create .
- Creating the Assignment also automatically creates a new folder structure in your OneDrive, which Schoology uses to organize student copies of the file to make it easier for you to keep your OneDrive organized. It is important that you do not delete or rename any of the new folders in your OneDrive.
- Once you click Create , you can no longer remove the selected Microsoft file from your assignment.
OneDrive Folder Hierarchy
The first time you create an assignment using the OneDrive Assignments app, a new folder called Schoology automatically generates at the root level in your associated OneDrive. With each new assignment you create, new folders populate automatically with the following hierarchy:
- A new folder for the course and section named CourseName: SectionName , plus a numeric identifier to ensure uniqueness, is added in the Schoology folder.
- A new folder with the Assignment name for its title also appended with a numeric identifier, is added to the course/section folder.
Each time a student makes a copy of the file, it is added to the Assignment folder. The filename is the name you gave it with the student name appended to the beginning.
For example, if you created a new assignment called Grammar Review in Section 1 of an English 101 course, the folder structure would be Schoology > English 101:Section 1 +[numeric ID] . If course member Hannah Atkins then creates a copy of the file, it is named Hannah Atkins - Grammar Review +[numeric ID] and placed in the English 101:Section 1 +[numeric ID] folder.
You and your students should not delete, edit, or rename any of the folders created via the Schoology integration.
Managing the Assignment from the OneDrive App
The assignment is now available in the course.
Click the assignment itself to open it.
Three tabs display at the top of the assignment that provide additional controls and information:
- In Progress
- Submissions
Assignment Tab
On the Assignment tab, you can:
- See the due date and time.
- See the assignment Description.
Open the Microsoft file you selected in a new tab in your browser.
This is the file that your students will use to create their own copies of the file, and any edits you make do not automatically update in previously-created copies of the file. That is, only students who create their copy after you make the edits will have versions that contain the edits. Updates to the file are not reflected for students who've already made their copies.
- Review a rubric if one is being used to grade the assignment.
- Use the section switcher to change the course section you're viewing if you have linked sections taking the assignment.
In Progress Tab
The In Progress tab displays a list of all students who have not yet made an assignment submission. View a student's copy of your original document before they submit by selecting their name from the list of the In Progress tab.
Monitor the progress of your students before they submit. Provide feedback directly on submissions using the native OneDrive feedback tools.
Student Copies of Your Document
Students click the My Document tab in their view of the assignment to create their own copy of your original file. As the instructor, you are the owner of the document in Microsoft, and the file is shared with your students.
Students must be logged into their own OneDrive accounts through their browser in order to create a copy of your original file.
The In Progress tab displays both students who have clicked My Document and created their own copy of your Microsoft file, as well as students who have not yet made a copy.
For example, if you provided the assignment to the whole class, students who have not yet submitted display in the student list. If you assigned only to individual students, those students appear on the list.
Viewing In Progress Files
When you select a student’s name who has not yet clicked the My Document tab in their view of the assignment, the following message displays:
It looks like [student’s first name] has not opened this assignment yet. Once your student clicks My Documen t, a copy of your original file will be created and the document will appear here.
Student can edit their files while submissions are still In Progress . Once students make a submission, they can no longer edit their files (from either Schoology or OneDrive). As the instructor and owner of the file, you will always have edit access to each of your students' file.
This copy displays when you select a student from the list in your In Progress tab until the student makes a submission. Once the student submits, his or her name and document display in the Submissions tab instead.
To open the student's copy of the document directly within OneDrive, click Open in the top right corner.
Submissions Tab
The Submissions tab displays a list of students who have submitted the assignment. Select a student’s name to view his or her document.
From the Submissions tab you may:
- Click into the grade input field along the top of the document header to grade the submission, enter a score, or add a comment.
- Click the Unsubmit button below the student name to move the assignment back into the In Progress tab and enable the student to continue working on the assignment.
Click Open to provide feedback using native Microsoft features, including commenting and annotation tools, as well as advanced editing tools like insert math formula and insert charts.
Insert image is not supported at this time.
- Needs Grading
Student View
The student view of the OneDrive Assignment displays the Assignment and My Document tabs.
- The Assignment tab displays the Assignment Description , including the due date. If you're using a rubric to grade the assignment, it also displays in this tab.
- Students must click the My Document tab to generate their copies of your OneDrive file.
- Once the copy is created and appears in the My Document tab, students must click Edit, which will open a new tab for students to edit their copies of your original document in OneDrive.
Students can edit .docx files in Word Online. However, .doc files must be opened in the Word desktop version or saved as a .docx in Word Online. For a list of supported file types and more information please see the Microsoft Office Support Center.
Submitting Assignments
Once students authorize the app and log into their OneDrive account through their browser, they can edit their file from within Schoology.
To submit, students click the Submit Assignment button at the top of their document.
Students may no longer edit the Microsoft file after submitting the assignment.
However, students may click the Unsubmit button at any time before the due date, and before you have graded their work. This includes applying an exception code.
Unsubmitting an assignment returns it to the In Progress tab in your view of the assignment as the Instructor. When an assignment is unsubmitted, the student re-gains edit access to the file and may continue working on the assignment.
Please note, these errors can depend on your browser setup.

Kami and Schoology
Are you ready to level up your Schoology experience? In this video, you’ll learn how to create Kami assignments in Schoology and easily share them with your students.
Hiya, I’m Vanessa. I’m on the community team here at Kami and I love supporting and cheering on our educators. But more importantly, I love sharing top tips to make your lives even easier. Today I’m going to show you how Kami and Schoology works so well together. Getting set up is super simple, just make sure you and your students have the Kami extension installed. First, let’s dive straight into Kami and start creating an assignment for our class. For this assignment, I’m going to use this Bubble Map Template from the Kami Library. As you can see, I’ve already added in text boxes invoice comment instructions, but I want to add one more touch before I sign it out to my students. So I’m going to use the Add Media tool to drop an image in the middle. Another awesome thing about Kami is that all your work is automatically saved to either your Google Drive or OneDrive to a specific Kami Uploads folder, keeping all your Kami files in one place. Now that the assignment is ready to be assigned, let’s click on the Sharing button up here. Here you can see your unique Kami sharing link general sharing permissions, plus download and print permissions. I’m going to copy the unique sharing link. And now we’re ready to move on to the next step in Schoology. So let’s hop on over there.
Here we are in Schoology. With that Kami link and I copied earlier, I can quickly create an update in Schoology for quick collaboration. I’m going to click the link button, paste in the Kami link and give it a title and click Attach. I can also hit the bell button. If I want to make it an announcement. I want to make this an assignment. So I’m going to go to materials and from the drop down menu, I’m going to select the Kami option. It’s really important that you remember the steps so you get the full Kami experience. From here I’ll choose my file and I know where my work is because conveniently Kami saves everything to my Kami Uploads folder. So we’ll go to Google Drive and I’ll grab that file. I also have the option to control features where I can adjust the camera tools my students can access to complete the assignment, I’m actually only going to allow my students to use a few Kami tools to complete this assignment. And here is my Schoology window. Here I can confirm the due date, choose a category and I will save the changes. My assignment has now been sent out to my students. If you ever want to make any edits to your newly created assignment, click the Edit Template button to make some changes to your file before your students access to the assignment. Students received their assignment as normal in Schoology, and they can click the assignment directly to open it into Kami. Over on the toolbar, you can see the Feature Control selections that I’ve put in place. Once they finish their assignment, they can click Submit and see the celebratory confetti. Now that we’re ready to grade, open the Kami assignment in Schoology and click Open Grader. Here you’ll be able to monitor student’s work even before they click the Submit button. So make sure to take full advantage of this awesome feature when needed. I’ve marked up and left some feedback already. So to finish it off, I’ll leave a grade comment and hit post.

Attach template files to an assignment
You can attach files to an assignment so each student receives an individual copy to edit and turn in. Example attachments include:
- Google Docs or Microsoft ® Word ® files for paper prompts
- PDFs for worksheets
- Google Sheets for data analysis
- Google Slides for presentations
- Google Sites for digital portfolios or final project templates
- Colab notebooks for programming exercises
Students can unsubmit work before an assignment’s due date. After the due date, students can’t unsubmit their work. If the assignment doesn’t have a due date, students can unsubmit their work at any time.
Note : To use Assignments, you need a learning management system (LMS) and a Google Workspace for Education account. The account usually looks like [email protected]. If Assignments isn’t installed in your LMS, ask your admin to go to Get Started with Assignments .
Attach files in Assignments with Canvas
The following instructions are for Canvas users.
- In Canvas, select your course and create an assignment.
- Click Google Assignments , which will open a popup window.
- If this is your first time using Assignments in the course, confirm your Google Account.
- Select Create assignment .
- Under Title , enter a name for the assignment.
- Under Files , click Attach and select files.
- Click Create . The Assignments window closes.
- Click Select to finish selecting the external tool.
Attach files in Assignments with Schoology
The following instructions are for Schoology users.
- In Schoology, select your course and open the Materials list.
- Enter a title for the assignment.
- (Optional) Adjust points and due date, add a rubric, or turn on originality reports for the assignment.
- Click Create . The Assignments window closes.
- Open the assignment.

How to use the Kami Schoology integration as a Student
1. open your kami assignment.
Go into the Courses tab, then click the Course you'd like to open. After clicking a course, you should see all the materials assigned by your teacher.
2. Load and annotate your Kami Assignment
Click the Material you'd like to work on to load your Assignment in Kami. You should have all the tools available to annotate your file.
3. Turn in your Kami Assignment
Once you're done with your work, you can submit the assignment directly from Kami to Schoology by clicking the Submit button at the top right corner of Kami.
❗️ Assessment Mode
You won't be able to access your Assignment after it is submitted if your teacher has enabled assessment mode.

Submitting a paper - File upload
The following information will help you submit your paper to Turnitin through your learning management system or virtual learning environment. Before you proceed, we advise checking that the file you'd like to submit will be accepted. Click here to view all accepted file types and sizes.
If the Upload Submission button is unavailable, you may be attempting to submit before the start date or after the due date. Click the Summary tab to check your assignment's key dates and any additional settings that may be affecting your submission.
The upload submission option allows you to submit your paper to the assignment by directly loading the file from your device.
- Select the appropriate button and locate the file on your device.
- Alternatively, drag the file you would like to submit into the boxed area.
If resubmissions are not enabled for this assignment, you may not be able to resolve any incorrect submissions.
You will see a submission complete notice if your submission was successful. Please don't leave the submission process until you have seen this notice.
